Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 8, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 8, 2012
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Information on my books

Worth Reading: Forget the debate: Happy days (for Obama) are here again. By John Kass
Excerpt: The president is the luckiest politician in history. He hasn't been in a real fight. And he doesn't like fights. The last time Obama had a real challenge, it came from U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, who played the race card against him (oh yes) and whipped him in a congressional campaign. After that, Obama wised up.

Worth Reading: Truths - The Most Effective Zingers - by Andy Weddington
Excerpt: As this election is largely about our pathetic economy - thanks to Mr. Obama's peculiar philosophies and failed policies and absolute lack of business experience and lack of basic economic common sense - Mr. Romney's remark will most likely resonate more and more. And it will the more he repeats it - at every opportunity.

Nice Comment: Local (Warren Buffett owned) newspaper endorses Romney!
This is a total shock for me as our local newspaper is usually a fairly liberal publication. I usually read it for entertainment and get my news from "just bloggers" such as yourself. Thank you for putting together your excellent SitReps. I often forward them on to friends and post them to facebook, along with your disclaimer about doing our own research on either side of a story. Thank you as well for your service as a Marine. My family appreciates the sacrifices you've made to protect our freedoms. --Laura

This should be a good show: CODE PINK Vagina Persons Now Going to Pakistan to follow Pied Piper Imran Khan into almost certain danger
http://losangelescitycollege.blogspot.com/2012/10/code-pink-vagina-persons-now-going-to.html
Excerpt: [Imran] Khan, (former hubby of Goldsmith heiress Jemima Khan and] a former cricket star, is leading a convoy of thousands -- including political supporters, local community members and journalists [and lions and tiger and bears]-- into the troubled, restricted region to highlight the impact of drone strikes in Pakistan.

TWITTER, FACEBOOK render fast judgement on Obama-Romney debate. Associated Press
http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/arizona/politics/article_80fb8290-0e97-11e2-aac8-0019bb2963f4.html
Excerpt: Twitter scored Romney the debate's clear winner according to Peoplebrowsr, a Web analytics firm. The group found 47,141 tweets mentioning Romney and "win or winner" compared to just 29,677 mentioning Obama and "win or winner." Romney was also the top tweet in battleground states including Florida, Ohio, Nevada and Colorado, Peoplebrowsr found.

Humor.

Desperate Dems Hide Behind Big Bird. By Michele Malkin
Excerpt: Mitt Romney sure ruffled a lot of feathers over his proposal to eliminate taxpayer funding for government-sponsored TV. As soon as the GOP presidential candidate singled out PBS for cuts during the presidential debate in Denver, the hysterical squawking commenced.

It’s the Altitude Stupid!
Excerpt: John Kerry and Bill Clinton will suggest: Hey, when you inhale throughout your teens and twenties, and snort cocaine like Lindsay Lohan, that’s what happens to your brain. It becomes fried by the time you hit your forties and, well, basically, when you try to talk or clarify anything, or at least pretend you are an intellect, you suck like Lindsay Lohan on a bong.

America: De-Industrialized By Green-Eyed Monsters
Excerpt: Green is the color of death. Death of economies. Death of peoples who will not be able to afford energy. Death of industrialization, therefore jobs. Death of affordable goods. Death of affordable services. Death of freedom of mobility.

Stratfor Sources: U.S. Troops in Mexico as Feds Aid Cartels. By Alex Newman
Excerpt: Federal authorities in the United States have been quietly supporting certain Mexican criminal empires, especially the Sinaloa drug cartel, in a bid to solidify the syndicates’ reign as dominant powerbrokers in particular territories, according to leaked e-mails from a U.S.-based Mexican diplomat to the private intelligence firm Stratfor. If cartel chiefs cooperate with authorities, “governments will allow controlled drug trades,” the diplomatic source wrote. (Too far fetched, Next they'll claim we've been giving them guns. Oh, wait...~Bob.)

Excerpt: Get ready folks! With 30 or so days to go before the November 6th election, and as Romney begins to close the gaps in the polls, prepare yourself for the dirtiest Chicago style politics you're likely to ever see. Obama learned his political skills in the most politically corrupt city in America; a city where Democrats run out and register voters off the tombstones of dead people. This is the city where, if you want a municipal or county job you not only vote Democratic but you also participate in strong arm gang thuggery to achieve the Dems' political goals.

AFP Responds To September Jobs Report With Silence. By Tony Lee
On the day the national unemployment rate was cut to 7.8 percent, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) on Friday released what may be one of the most attention-grabbing and unconventional ads of the 2012 election cycle. The ad is titled “Dinner Table” and features a recently unemployed father trying to eat dinner with his worried wife and two kids. ….. It is a scene that has been played in real life in millions of homes across America during the Great Recession and the so-called recovery.

Worth Reading: Polling Theory: When Polling Is Useless. By Charlie Martin
Excerpt: Polling companies are now reporting that their telephone results are working out like this: 38% could not be reached. 53% were contacted but actively refused to answer. 9% cooperated and answered the polling questions. In round figures, that means out of 10 phone numbers tried, 4 don’t answer at all, 5 answer and hang up, and only about 1 out of 10 actually cooperates. (The noise about polling is deafeningly offputting. If Charlie Mann is correct (see highlights), enough people are either unavailable or unwilling to respond to callers, therefore making the results statistical wishful thinking. Could it be that potential respondents are somehow reluctant to identify themselves as against this incumbent president? Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

Top Iranian Official: Iran Needs “24 Hours And An Excuse” To Annihilate Israel
Excerpt: A top Iranian official says that Iran will be able to annihilate Israel within a day.

Excerpt: Two bearded ultra-conservative men in Egypt attacked four elementary schoolgirls walking down a street eating ice popsicles. The men knocked the popsicles from the girls hands and began yelling at them.

Jack Welch Refuses To Back Down On Unemployment Numbers In Fiery Exchange With Chris Matthews
Excerpt: In a heated debate with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, former General Electric CEO Jack Welch doubled-down on his claim that the Bureau of Labor Statistics survey released Friday, which showed a spike in employment and a drop in the unemployment metric from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent, is bogus.

Obama Raises $150M in September, Tries to Block 'Blockbuster' Donor Scandal. By Tony Lee
Excerpt: President Barack Obama’s campaign raised more than $150 million in September, which was a record haul for the 2012 cycle, but the campaign may be actively trying to block a story in the works about a “blockbuster donor scandal” that could put its fundraising numbers under intense scrutiny. According to the Washington Examiner, “a taxpayer watchdog group conducted a nine-month investigation” and uncovered “thousands of cases of credit card solicitations and donations” to the Obama campaign. Many of those donations have allegedly come from overseas and may be in violation of federal election laws. (If I recall correctly, in 1996, Bob Dole's entire campaign spending was something like $87M. ~Bob.)

PA Lawmaker Refuses To Say Pledge Of Allegiance
Excerpt: The drama unfolded at what was billed as a non-controversial House State Government Committee meeting Wednesday morning. Republican Chairman Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) asked Josephs to lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance; a rather routine request that became anything but when Josephs refused. "Based on my First Amendment rights and based on the fact that I really think it's a prayer.”

Excerpt: …..Why the intense interest in business and cultural ties with Native American tribes now, when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist Justice and Development party (AKP) have taken Turkey down a path of aggressive and dangerous Islamism? Evidence from Uzbekistan points to a possible motive: infiltration and Islamization. The government of Uzbekistan is claiming that private Turkish business interests in the Central Asian country have been acting as a front for banned Islamist extremists. (Worked for the Saudis, funding black “educational opportunities” ….come in the back door. --Barb)

The Al Nusrah Front for the People of the Levant, an al Qaeda-linked jihadist group that is fighting Bashir al Assad's regime in Syria, has released two photographs of the execution of Syrian soldiers reportedly captured in Aleppo [one of the photographs is reproduced above]. The soldiers were "from the Hanano barracks" according to the statement that was released by the group. The short statement was released on Sept. 3 and translated by the SITE Intelligence Group on Oct. 3. (This is the side the Obama Administration is aiding. Despite the demands to "do something" from do-gooders and leftie journalist, there are no "good guys" in Syria. The side that wills will turn their attention to killing Jews, Christians and other kuffer. ~Bob.)

United Kingdom: Patients Starve and Die of Thirst on Hospital Wards. Telegraph UK
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9591814/Patients-starve-and-die-of-thirst-on-hospital-wards.html
Excerpt: Forty-three hospital patients starved to death last year and 111 died of thirst while being treated on wards, new figures disclose today. [Those people who work for Britain's National Health Service are gold, but they are not God and they can't perform miracles. Kate.]

CNN Exposed – Emmy Winning Former CNN Journalist, Amber Lyon, Blows The Whistle…. Simultaneously Answers One of my questions….
Excerpt: CNN never aired the Nick Robertson report in Egypt because it completely contradicted President Obama and Hillary Clinton’s assertions. In short, the Robertson report, if aired, would have proved Obama and Clinton were lying.

Error and Fraud at Issue as Absentee Voting Rises
Excerpt: On the morning of the primary here in August, the local elections board met to decide which absentee ballots to count. It was not an easy job. ... "This 'r' is not like that 'r,' " Judge Augustus D. Aikens Jr. said, suggesting that a ballot should be rejected. Ion Sancho, the elections supervisor here, disagreed. (I found this article really interesting. It seems nothing about voting is simple or foolproof. --Del. I know Ion Sancho. He was in my local Mensa group. Called me to tell me he liked a poem I had in the Mensa Bulletin...and, oh, by the way, would I send him a campaign contribution. No. ~Bob.)

Worth Reading: Whitewashing Mao: A mealy-mouthed new biography goes immorally easy on the "Great Helmsman." By Andrew Roberts
Excerpt: No one in the 20th century was responsible for more deaths that Mao Zedong (1893-1976), chairman of the Chinese Communist Party; not Lenin, Stalin or even Hitler. The sheer size of China meant that Mao's vicious, carefully premeditated policies led to more death, starvation, suffering and bloodshed than the work of anyone else in history's most cataclysmic century. (It seems that there are always people who will examine events through colored glasses of one sort or another. The new book takes a view of Mao as a "complicated man" whose basic motivations were all for the good of China. That may well be true, in the same sense that Hitler wanted what was good for Germany, and Napoleon wanted what was good for France. But we can and should judge a person by what they accomplish deliberately more than by their supposed intent. And Mao was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions over the time of his reign. While once in full power, he used the cult of personality and led a privileged life with lots of special benefits until the day of his death. Ted Bundy and all the other serial killers could be called "complicated" as well. But realistically, to paraphrase Forest Gump, "Evil is as Evil Does". --Del. The left always believes good intentions exonerates evil outcomes. ~Bob.)

93 Year-Old Wheelchair-Bound Woman Gets Photo ID In One Day After Losing Initial PA Voter ID Lawsuit. By Pete Winn
Excerpt: “Applewhite is 93-years-old, does not drive, is confined to a wheelchair, lacks many personal identification documents, and yet she managed to get herself -- with no assistance from the ACLU -- to her local PennDot office, where she was issued an ID,” Danhof explained. (I thought this was really interesting. After the months of screaming about it, it turns out that getting a voter ID was not exactly difficult or lengthy. I wonder if that information will be considered important in the debate. Actually, I thought the end result in this case was kind of funny. --Del)

But his intentions were good! ~Bob. Excerpt: Below is a list of failed energy companies backed by President Barack Obama and funded with tax dollars. President Obama has gone to great lengths to support policies to advance so-called green energy technologies but so far has met with utter failure. The President plans to double down on these unproven, expensive failed technologies if he gets a second term.

Obama’s Spiking the Football Over 7.8% Unemployment? By John Daly
Excerpt: In a reality-based world, the only political advantage that number should give President Obama is the extra money the Romney campaign will now have to put into re-dubbing campaign commercials that pointed out how long the unemployment rate has been over 8%. But in the world of Obama, it’s celebration time for a job well done! A testament to the success of his economic policies!

Latest New Yorker Cover Zings Obama With Romney Debating…An Empty Chair

Ohio Senate: Brown (D) 46%, Mandel (R) 46%
Excerpt: The U.S. Senate race in Ohio is now a tie. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Ohio Voters finds incumbent Democrat Sherrod Brown and his Republican challenger Josh Mandel each earning 46% support. Two percent (2%) like another candidate, and six percent (6%) are undecided.

Excerpt: Inflation has been picking up since the recession ended in 2009. The problem with the CPI increasing year over year with no rise in household incomes is that the standard of living for most Americans erodes every year that incomes do not keep up. Household incomes are back to levels last seen in the mid-1990s while the cost of necessities has gone up. (Believe it or not, there are really a LOT of people who don't want to know how the corporatocracy is impoverishing them, even though they can see with their own eyes that gas prices have doubled in the last 4 years. It is obvious from some responses that they think the government--and the Federal Reserve (which many think is a government agency)--is full of people who have their interests at heart and are doing their level best to improve the economy and create jobs. And they vote. The picture is more transparent for those who keep abreast of economic trends in both Europe and the US and can see the exact same patterns appearing in both regions yet being portrayed as mere coincidence in the media. But the doubting Thomases make the job of the power elites so much easier. Their reward for their loyalty? More poverty. --Don Hank)

Excerpt: When I come across a Facebook or Twitter posting that relates to our current national problems the first question I ask myself is "did they vote?". When I monitor the comments from a news website's news article, the first thing I think is "all boots, no horse"; that is "they love to shoot off their mouth but won't get off their ass and go exercise their citizen responsibility which is voting. Instead, these loudmouths sit on their broad asses and compose a keyboard symphony of raps against all that they deplore. They have all the answers and are not shy about spouting off about them. Yet, voting is just too much to ask of them.

Excerpt: The Obama administration has refused for the first time to declare that Pakistan is making progress toward ending alleged military support for Islamic militant groups or preventing al Qaida, the Afghan Taliban or other extremists from staging attacks in Afghanistan. Even so, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has quietly informed Congress that she’s waived the legal restrictions that would have blocked some $2 billion in U.S. economic and military aid to Pakistan.

Sharia in action in Arizona: Muslim family burns and beats daughter, padlocks her to bed for refusing arranged marriage
Excerpt: Note the unconscionable and inexplicable bias of the Fox headline and lede paragraph: all three family members pled guilty, yet the story still says that this woman "claims" that she was beaten by her family. And the victim is sorry. This is all she knows.

The 2012 Presidential Debates >> Did Anyone Get The Number Of That Bus?

Excerpt: Anyway, one thing I'm very much noticing on the campaign trail is the intensity of local feeling on the wind farm horror. When you live in a city – as I did till recently – you simply have no idea how much heartbreak and anxiety and fear the wind farm scam is generating across rural Britain. Country people feel helpless and appalled and betrayed.
