Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 4, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 4, 2012
Robert A. Hall

The blog today was posted just as the debate started. I’ll link to key commentary tomorrow. Will likely need too much single malt to get through it to be functional afterwards. ~Bob

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Worth Reading: Why Mitt Romney Won’t Win the Post Debate Swing State Polls. By John McLaughlin and Jim McLaughlin
http://mclaughlinonline.com/6?article=87
Excerpt: Tonight Mitt Romney could give the most effective debate performance since Ronald Reagan out debated President Carter, or even since Abraham Lincoln showed up Stephen Douglas, and Mitt Romney will still lose the post debate swing state polls. Why? Because the voter samples that the media pollsters will call are already stacked to favor Democrats over Republicans. It's almost like a 1970's Olympics where the Soviets have the East Germans as judges and referees.

Obama’s race-baiting video
I don’t get the supposed shock and outrage over Obama’s race-baiting remarks in the old video just released. What Democrat politician, especially what black Democrat, isn’t willing to whip up a sense of victimization among blacks to gin up votes and get power? That this attitude and culture hurts black advancement far more than the lingering vestiges of racism matters to them not at all. They care about power, not “our people.” Who with a brain is surprised at this?

October Surprise: Obama Plans Major Airstrike On Libyan Targets
Excerpt: Today, a Defense Department official confirmed to Breitbart News that there is advance planning for a “substantial air package” against targets in Libya. Military sources suggest that this means that flight missions against Libyan targets will include manned flights, not merely drones. The New York Times reported yesterday that the Obama administration is preparing an operation to “kill or capture militants” involved in the Benghazi attack resulting in the murder of our ambassador to Libya and three other Americans.

Excerpt: In the fog of war it can be difficult to discern what is happening as events unfold. It is getting even harder these days in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have sought to infiltrate Afghan security forces and have instigated an increasing number of green-on-blue, or insider, attacks on Coalition forces.

Excerpt: The embassy siege eventually led to a tense standoff at the El Fateh mosque in Tunis, after the man suspected of leading the embassy attack gave a rousing speech to his followers inside. That man is Seifallah ben Hassine, otherwise known as Abu Iyad al Tunisi. Hassine has long worked with and for al Qaeda. (Just another peace-loving Muslim until that evil video pissed him off, huh, Barack? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: So, a total cover-up of ignored warnings about security in Libya, the Fast and Furious scandal, the effort to negotiate with the Taliban floppedAfghan troops turning their guns on our forces with increasing regularity, and now this: A senior U.S. official says there is strong circumstantial evidence that Mexican federal police who fired on a U.S. embassy vehicle, wounding two CIA agents, were working for organized crime on a targeted assassination attempt.

Voter ID laws rejected & military ballots down 75%, wonder how many votes this gives to Obama?

Democrat E-mail
HUGE BREAKING NEWS: Politico just reported that today, Karl Rove’s Crossroads group will launch “their biggest paid media push of 2012”—$16 million into ten Presidential and Senate battlegrounds. With 35 days to go, this is the Republicans’ last stand. But the fact is, this is enough money to win them the White House and Senate if we can’t respond. It is that significant. (One can only hope so. ~Bob.)

Romney goes on the offense on eve of first presidential debate
Excerpt: Mitt Romney went on offense Tuesday ahead of his crucial first debate against President Obama, adding fresh details to his policies while capitalizing on a blunder by Vice President Biden. The GOP nominee proposed limiting individual tax deductions to $17,000, a move that could help rebuff arguments from the Obama campaign that his fiscal policies are both vague and aimed at helping the rich.

Biden tells audience middle class has been 'buried' last four years
Excerpt: Vice President Biden said Tuesday that the middle class has been “buried” for the last four years. Biden made the remark at a campaign rally while arguing that Republicans would raise taxes on the middle class. He said the tax hike would be especially bad given what the middle class has been through over the last four years. (A Democrat telling the truth about what has happened on Obama’s watch is, truly, a blunder. ~Bob.)

Border Patrol agent killed, another wounded in Arizona
Excerpt: The FBI is investigating a shooting in which one Border Patrol agent was killed and another wounded in the southern Arizona desert Tuesday, the first time an agent has been fatally shot since December 2010. The pair were among several agents patrolling on horseback when the shooting occurred near Naco, about 100 miles southeast of Tucson and 50 miles from where Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was killed two years ago. (And did the killers get their guns courtesy of Eric Withholder’s DOJ? We may never know as they got away with them. ~Bob.)

Kerrey’s candidacy looks bleak in Neb.
Excerpt: Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-Neb.) was at the top of the list when Democrats touted a recruiting class that would help them keep control of the Senate. But, months later, as other Senate candidates — including Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), former North Dakota Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp (D) and former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona (D) in Arizona — have turned their races in Republican states into dogfights, Kerrey’s contest has faded into the background.

America to immigrants: ‘Give me your tired, your poor’ but keep your entrepreneurs. By Vivek Wadhwa
Excerpt: Hardik Desai conceived a startup while he was studying for an MBA at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University (OSU) in 2008. Based on research that the university was conducting, Desai came up with a new way to diagnose a group of diseases including painful bladder syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome. … But the U.S. government wouldn’t provide Hardik with a visa to start the company.

Excerpt: In my book, Priceless, I made a bold claim: Employers can cut their health costs in half if they will do three things: Establish a generous Health Savings Account and let employees pay directly for all primary care. Establish special HSAs for the chronically ill, giving them the opportunity to manage their own care. Direct elective surgery patients to low-cost, high-quality hospitals (which may require travel to another city); if the employee chooses to go to some other hospital, he must pay the full marginal cost of the more expensive choice. The last suggestion is the most radical.

Many states not prepared for health-care law. By Sandhya Somashekhar
Excerpt: More than three dozen states could be unprepared or unwilling to set up the insurance marketplaces called for under the 2010 health-care law, leaving at least part of the task up to the federal government, according to a new report. (Marines have an expression, which I can’t use in a family blog, but the first word is “cluster” and the second rhymes with “luck.” Obamacare is going to be one. ~Bob.)

Georgia’s President Concedes Defeat in Parliamentary Election
Excerpt: President Mikheil Saakashvili of Georgia conceded defeat in parliamentary elections on Tuesday and declared himself an opposition politician, an extraordinary event in a country whose other post-Soviet leaders have left office under pressure from chanting crowds and the threat of civil war. Mr. Saakashvili, 44, saw his presidency as a mission to wrench Georgia free of its Soviet past, which made it especially striking to see him let it go so calmly, a bronze bust of Ronald Reagan visible behind his right shoulder.

Interesting: Attack at Nigerian College Leaves at Least 25 Dead
Assailants killed at least 25 people at a college in northeastern Nigeria early Tuesday, the Nigerian police said. But while the Islamist sect Boko Haram has killed hundreds of people in the region over the last year, suspicion this time appeared to be focusing on a campus election on Saturday that was bitterly contested along religious and ethnic lines.

Excerpt: But I suspected something more substantive, more significant, was troubling me. And it was finally revealed in Obama’s lengthy 2007 speech to a black audience just made available in its unbowdlerized form by Fox News and the Daily Caller Tuesday night. I had my “aha” moment. Barack Obama is a segregationist.

Quotes from The Patriot Post
"[It's] [e]asy to see how Bush would be caught off-guard by the 9-11-01 attack. But what kind of maroon gets caught off-guard by 9-11-12 attacks?" --columnist Ann Coulter

"Barack Obama wakes up every morning and thinks about Barack Obama." --former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich

"Mitt Romney was accused by Democrats of upping his tax payments by not subtracting all his charity deductions. Imagine the opposition's fury. Democrats say Mitt gave four million dollars to charity last year and all that money could have gone to helping the needy." --comedian Argus Hamilton

"In Florida, school officials in Marion County are considering bringing the practice of paddling back. If that's not effective, they could always threaten to let Michelle Obama write their lunch menu." --Fred Thompson

"A new survey out today shows how much time we waste every day in our lives. For example, we waste seven minutes in line every time we go to get coffee, 28 minutes getting through airport security, four years waiting for Obama to do something about the economy." --comedian Jay Leno

Worth Reading: Capital Gains Taxes. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: One of the many false talking points of the Obama administration is that a rich man like Warren Buffett should not be paying a lower tax rate than his secretary. But anyone whose earnings come from capital gains usually pays a lower tax rate. How are capital gains different from ordinary income?

How Public Unions Exploit the Ruse of 'Official Time.' Government employees get paid to spend time on the job working on union projects that they don't disclose to managers or the public. By Mallory Factor
Excerpt: Imagine thousands of government employees reporting to work each morning at their government offices and then doing no government work. They use government workspace, government telephones and government computers, all while working on projects unknown and unidentified to their government employers.

Excerpt: Businesswoman and philanthropist Susan Crown, a former Obama supporter and a member of one of Chicago’s most influential families, told an audience of over 300 women and men, “In the midst of the Obama administration, I became profoundly disappointed, disillusioned and actually a little angry.”

The Long Shadow of Vietnam: Review of Comrades in Arms: How the Ameri-Cong Won the Vietnam War
Excerpt: If you've ever wondered who's behind the antiwar movement, in the Vietnam War era or today, a book you'll want to read is Roger Canfield's Comrades in Arms: How the Ameri-Cong Won the Vietnam War… (I have a copy of this book, and it is everything the reviewer says and more. Roger did an incredible amount of painstaking research to come up with the most detailed history of these events you could ever imagine. And the information about who was undercutting our efforts in Viet Nam is remarkably useful in understanding what goes on in society today. Remember- you are NOT paranoid if they really are out to get you! –Del)

Will Obama Hold the Jewish Vote? By Rich Baehr
Excerpt: The AJC survey reveals why so many Jews remain supporters of the president. Support for how Obama has handled U.S.-Israel relations and Iran’s nuclear program is lower than for any other issue, but he still gets over 60% support for his policies in each case. More importantly, Israel and Iran simply do not register among the most important issues for Jewish voters.(In the overwhelming lack of interest in Israel shown by today's American Jews, one can easily see US support for a secure and independent Jewish state being left to the sentiments of evangelical Christians. Judging from the boos at the Democrat convention, the leadership of that party has already decided to dump Israel as an ally and as a cause worth worrying about. In the near future, Muslims will outnumber Jews in the United States. Their overt militancy and seemingly unanimous quiet enmity for Israel, this portends an Israel completely isolated in the world. Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

POWERFUL VIDEO: 'If I Wanted America to Fail'
Excerpt: Posted on YouTube back on Apr 20, 2012 ... if you haven't seen it, be sure you do so now, then compare what you hear in this video to exactly what the Obama administration has been doing and advocating from day 1. (Here's the powerful sequel to the above video. Both are even more pertinent today than the day they were first put up on YouTube ... and both speak volumes about why Mitt Romney must be elected on November 6. –Barb. http://youtu.be/S6h9IJ15rdQ)

Debt Jumped $1.2759T in FY 2012; Up $10,855 Per Household in Just 12 Months; Beats 2011. By Terence P. Jeffrey
Excerpt: The $1.2758 trillion that the debt increased in fiscal 2012 was about $47.18 billion more than the $1.2287 trillion that the debt increased in fiscal 2011. …More here. That's $5.3 trillion since Barack Obama became president, and more than any other president has increased the national debt in history. In fact, $5.3 trillion constitutes about one-third of the entire national debt of the United States.

The 60th Vote Regrets: Now Jim Webb and Evan Bayh tell us.
Excerpt: The ability to break a filibuster without Republican votes empowered the left to think it could pass anything, and so it steamrolled ahead with ObamaCare, which needed every one of those 60 votes to pass. Now a couple of those Senators are expressing regrets about those votes after the fact.

Did the White House order a cover-up over the murder of Libya's US Ambassador? By Con Coughlin
Excerpt: Immediately after the murder of Chris Stevens, America's Ambassador to Libya, I suggested that the assault on the US consulate in Benghazi on September 11 could have profound consequences for President Barack Obama, particulary if he failed to take appropriate action against the murderers – the most likely candidates being members of al-Qaeda's new terror franchise in Mali. But with the US presidential contest entering its critical final phase, the Obama administration deftly avoided getting into any controversy over the murder of Mr Stevens and three other members of the consulate staff by leading everyone to believe the murders were not part of an al-Qaeda plot, but the result of an outbreak of violence caused by a blaphemous film clip.

Gov recalls Streisand ouster with glee
Excerpt: Barbra Streisand, apparently, was not amused. At least that’s the way Gov. Chris Christie saw it when the singer, actress and Democratic supporter — “one of your most famous Californians,” as Christie told the California delegation to the Republican National Convention Monday morning — was booted out of the governor’s seats during a White House event for Chinese dignitaries.

On Obama’s Other Race Speech. By Bryan Preston
Excerpt: As we now know thanks to a 2007 video unearthed by the Daily Caller, then Sen. Obama said quite a bit more about his relationship with Rev. Wright. In that speech, Obama called Wright “my pastor, the guy who puts up with me, counsels me, listens to my wife complain about me. He’s a friend and a great leader. Not just in Chicago, but all across the country.”

PA Voter ID Battle Lost, War Won. By J. Christian Adams
Excerpt: Incidentally, the lead plaintiff, Viviette Applewhite, claimed that she was unable to get photo identification. The day after Judge Simpson ruled against her last month, Applewhite went out and got a photo ID. Like every other challenge brought to photo ID in every other case, Applewhite’s claims of disenfranchisement were actually litigation bluster.

Black Church Uses Lynching Photos To Get Out The Vote By Joel B. Pollak
Excerpt: The community around the church, on the east side of Indianapolis, is overwhelmingly black, and is represented in Congress by Rep. André Carson (D-IN), who helped promote false accusations that the Tea Party had used the N-word at its anti-Obamacare rally in March 2010. …A similar message has been used in recent weeks by the Obama campaign itself, with Vice President Biden telling black voters in Virginia that Mitt Romney would "put y'all back in chains." …. If anything, racism--and hyperbolic fears of racism--are not obstacles for Obama and his party, but tools to rally support. (Joel’s wife, Julia, is lovely, brilliant and, like Obama, half black. Just FYI before you call him a racist. ~Bob.)

Six States, Soldiers And Seniors Will Decide 2012 Race. By J.B. Williams
Excerpt: As the 2012 campaign moves toward the first Presidential debate between incumbent Obama and challenger Romney, there is no shortage of crystal ball activity with politicos from all corners trying to predict what the future will bring on November 6th. I might as well jump in here…

Excerpt: Attorney General Jim Hood says the Department of Justice has asked for more information on Mississippi's voter identification law. Hood said in a statement Tuesday that the bottom line is that the law will not be pre-cleared by the Justice Department in time for it to be enforced for the Nov. 6 election.

Tucker Carlson on 2007 Obama race speech: ‘This isn’t a dog whistle — this is a dog siren’ [VIDEO] By Jeff Poor
Excerpt: “These are appeals to racial solidarity. … So look, he is make very clear case, again, on the basis of his racial solidarity with this audience, that they are getting shafted by a racist federal government. And by the way, unless you can provide evidence that that’s true, unless you can nail down factually that that’s true, you should not say things like that because it’s dangerous to say things like that.”

Report: Billions spent on more than 1,500 solar projects. By Michael Bastasch
Excerpt: Using data compiled by the Institute for Energy Research, the Journal reported that solar energy subsidies cost $775.64 per megawatt hour. In contrast, sources like oil and gas cost only 64 cents per megawatt hour. “So for every tax dollar that goes to coal, oil and natural gas, wind gets $88 and solar $1,212,” reports the Journal.

Coulter on Obama’s urban accent: ‘He just turns it on and suddenly we’ve got Malcolm X speaking to us’ [VIDEO] By Jeff Poor
Excerpt: On Mark Levin’s radio show Tuesday, conservative commentator Ann Coulter questioned President Barack Obama’s suggestion that he is a product of a racist society, and that he is an appropriate messenger to counteract that racism…. “Obama is such a fraud,” Coulter said. ….. You know, he graduated from this fancy, fancy school in Hawaii, voted recently the greenest school in America. And yet, when he wants to, he just turns it on and suddenly we’ve got Malcolm X speaking to us.”

$1.5 Billion a year to fix pension costs.
Did I mention that cities like Chicago are going to play a big role in the coming fiscal collapse? I did? Never mind, back to your TV. ~Bob

Obama 'Destroying Records' In 'Cyber Bonfire'
Excerpt: In 2008, President Obama excoriated the Bush administration for its lack of transparency, and he vowed to lead the most open administration in U.S. history. Not only has that promise failed to materialize, but the Obama White House is among the most secretive in history and routinely breaks federal laws to keep damaging information from coming to light.

Won’t Back Down Outrages the Unions. Unions shouldn’t want anyone to see this film. By Rich Lowry
Excerpt: Union protesters demonstrated outside the premiere of the new pro-education-reform movie Won’t Back Down. As well they should have. Just as tobacco executives should have protested at the opening of The Insider.

Watchdog group sues IRS for release of tax returns sought by the president. By Betsi Fores
Excerpt: If President Barack Obama has been looking at your taxes, the D.C.-based watchdog group Cause of Action wants to know about it. The group filed a suit Tuesday morning against the Internal Revenue Service over refusing to release the names of businesses and individuals whose returns interest the president. “We’re concerned with the transparency of the president’s administration.

Condi on America
Excerpt: The following is a transcript of a speech that former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice gave at the Republican National Convention on Aug. 29, 2012. (I thought this speech was particularly worthwhile. It's about what America is, what has made us great. And what we need to get back to. --Del)

Foreign aid more important than border security
The link takes you to a detailed article about this. I decided to make it easy to see what has gone on, and made the graph from the numbers in the article. What you see is in the late Bush years foreign aid was dropping, while Customs and Border funding went up. As of Obama taking over, foreign aid started climbing fast, while Customs and Border flattened out. With most of the world hating us, or at least despising us, and taking our money while laughing at us, why are we pouring more billions into aid, while neglecting the border security which is one of the priorities the great majority of Americans share? And how do we change this....? Nov 6th is our chance. --Del

Walter Williams - Trickle Down and Tax Cuts
Excerpt: Dr. Thomas Sowell's "'Trickle Down Theory' and 'Tax Cuts for the Rich'" has just been published by the Hoover Institution. Having read this short paper, the conclusion you must reach is that the term "trickle down theory" is simply a tool of charlatans and political hustlers. Sowell states that "no such theory has been found in even the most voluminous and learned histories of economic theories."

Who Killed The Electric Car? Toyota Now Tries For That Role
Excerpt: Drawing a dramatic line in the sand for a global auto industry that has continued to invest heavily in all-electric vehicles, a top Toyota executive today simply said what a lot of people are thinking: EVs don’t make business or financial sense at this point. And then Toyota Vice Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada, also head of Toyota R&D, announced in Japan that the company was backing up its dramatic conclusion with equally decisive action: Toyota killed plans for a volume launch of its second all-electric car, the eQ, a version of the iQ minicar, and said that it hopes for only 2,600 sales worldwide of its other EV, a RAV4 version, over the next three years. (These two articles on all-electric (or, all-coal, if you prefer) vehicles should scare the hell out of you. Notice from the numbers in the excerpt of the second story alone, there is way north of $900M involved. I first read Atlas Shrugged during the Kennedy years. I remember thinking not even corrupt politicians would do the outrageous things Rand described; things that sound amazingly like those described below. Ron P.)

Obamacar: Bad Karma For Taxpayers
Excerpt: Since then, the company has suspended construction of a U.S. manufacturing facility for a different car, and has laid off 26 employees and 40 contractors. This is to allow time for an original $529 million loan guarantee commitment to be renegotiated with our government due to Karma production delays and a vehicle recall… after already spending $193 million of that amount. Then, because of that stoppage and lagging sales projections, Fisker’s battery supplier, A123 Systems, laid off 125 employees after they received $249.1 million from generous U.S. taxpayers, plus $141 million in State of Michigan tax credits and subsidies.

Consumer Reports: Fisker Karma the Worst Luxury Sedan
Excerpt: It’s been six months since the taxpayer-subsidized ($193 million) Fisker Karma broke down at the test facilities of Consumer Reports before the publication could even take it for a review spin, but now the researchers have finally been able to put the luxury electric car through its paces and their assessment is complete. Verdict: fail.

Report: Obama Admin Rejected Military Intervention in Benghazi During Attack By AWR Hawkins
Excerpt: According to the Wall Street Journal, as the attack on the U.S. consulate was raging, Obama took a "wait and see" approach. Ninety minutes after news of the attack reached Washington, Obama, Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, JCS Chair General Martin Dempsey, and a national security adviser convened for an oval office meeting in which they ultimately rejected the course of U.S. military intervention. Instead, they decided to reach out to the Libyan government to ask if they would send reinforcements.

Reports: DOG. Obama Purchasing Illinois Prison For Gitmo Inmate Transfer. By AWR Hawkins
Excerpt: News is breaking that the Obama administration is circumventing Congress and purchasing a prison facility in Illinois in which to house detainees once Gitmo is shut down. The facility, Thomson Prison, is being purchased for "at least $165 million" and Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of House Committee on Homeland Security, believes the intention to house Gitmo inmates there is a foregone conclusion. (Put them on the south side of Chicago. They’ll be dead in a month. ~Bob.)

Libyan Terrorist, Freed During Arab Spring, Participated in Benghazi Attack. By AWR Hawkins
Excerpt: A Libyan militant who attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was freed from prison during the Arab Spring. Reports have emerged that the Arab Spring uprisings throughout the Middle East and North Africa led to the emptying of prisons, and as result, the freeing of some terrorist fighters who been detained. …President Obama praised the chaotic Arab Spring as it was unfolding, and even spoke highly of it last week during his speech at the U.N.

The Truth About Muslims And The Fourth Estate. By Burt Prelutsky
Excerpt: If you depend on the mainstream media -- and why would anyone? – you would come to believe that Muslims are decent, law-abiding people and Christian conservatives are blood-thirsty ogres. It is because of promoting such head-spinning balderdash that the American press has earned the contempt of millions of us. Instead of speaking truth to power, they roll over for Obama and the Democrats.

New Jersey SEIU Boss Exposes Himself: Why, Yes, We Do Use Union Dues To Buy Politicians
Excerpt: Back in July, ACORN-aficionado James O’Keefe exposed New York union bosses caught on tape showing their appreciation for the concept of taxpayer-funded “shovel ready” jobs–that is the idea of digging holes only to fill them back in and getting the government (taxpayers) to fund the make-work project. Well, Mr. O’Keefe and his hidden camera team have been at it again–this time exposing how beholden Democrat politicians are to unions like the SEIUs.

Obama is ahead with a 72% probability of being elected. (CNBC-10-03-2012)

Here in Texas, the deadline to register to vote next Tuesday, October 9, 2012. Let's make sure we do everything possible to get folks registered and educated. The video below will help in the education part. --MM)

Excerpt: U.S. births fell for the fourth year in a row, the government reported Wednesday, with experts calling it more proof that the weak economy has continued to dampen enthusiasm for having children. … A rate of a little more than 2 children per woman means each couple is helping keep the population stable. The U.S. rate last year was slightly below 1.9. (We are below the replacement rate. This has serious implications for but our ability to sustain the culture and government programs like Social security and Medicare. ~Bob.)

Why the Teen Brain Is Drawn to Risk
Excerpt: If you’re the parent of a tween, be warned: your cautious 10-year-old is bound to turn into a wild child in a few short years, with seemingly no regard whatsoever for safety. Indeed, teenagers have the double the risk of dying compared to their preteen selves. (I was perfectly sensible as a teen. If you don’t count alcohol poisoning, joining the Marines, learning to kill a man at 500 yards with a rifle and volunteering for Vietnam, that is. ~Bob.)

Afghan senators want 'friendship' axed from France pact
Excerpt: Afghanistan's senate voted to cut the word "friendship" from a pact with France because Islamic texts say it cannot be used to describe relations between Muslims and infidels, senators said Tuesday. France, which has seen 88 of its troops killed as part of the NATO coalition backing the Afghan government against Taliban insurgents, signed the 20-year "friendship and cooperation treaty" earlier this year. (He should know—he did as mach as anyone to bring about the coming collapse. ~Bob.)

2002 Speech Shows Obama's Feelings About Race, Crime, Education And Wealth
Excerpt: At this point he makes his most explicitly racial comment of the speech, saying "It's hard to imagine that the powerful in our society would tolerate the burgeoning prison-industrial complex if they'd imagine that the black men and Latino men that are being imprisoned were something like their sons."

Sensitive documents left behind at American mission in Libya
Excerpt: More than three weeks after attacks in this city killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans, sensitive documents remained only loosely secured in the remains of the U.S. mission here on Wednesday, offering visitors easy access to delicate details about American operations in Libya.
