Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 28, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 28, 2012
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Worth Reading: Back When Democrats Knew Economics. By Ralph R. Reiland
Excerpt: Who warned that "increasing federal expenditures" would "demoralize both the government and our economy"? Eleven months before he was assassinated as he rode with his wife in the back seat of an open convertible in a motorcade through downtown Dallas, President John F. Kennedy delivered a major address to the Economic Club of New York at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on December 14, 1962. The unemployment rate that month was 5.5 percent. The annual inflation rate was 1.3 percent. The sticker price on a new Chevy Impala convertible was $2,919. Gas was 31 cents a gallon.

The Death of Politics and the Birth of Democracy: As party politics perish, people power is born. By Daniel Hannan
http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/danielhannan/100186768/the-death-of-politics-and-the-birth-of-idemocracy/
Excerpt: At the very moment that government action reaches its limit, says Douglas, technological change renders it redundant. The Internet puts into the hands of a private citizen information which, 15 years ago, an entire department would have struggled to compile. The revolution in communications is cutting out the middleman.

Father of Tyrone Woods on Benghazi Debacle and its Aftermath. Moonbattery.com
http://moonbattery.com/?p=19885
Excerpt: “When [Obama] came over to our little area” at Andrew Air Force Base, says Woods, “he kind of just mumbled, you know, ‘I’m sorry.’ His face was looking at me, but his eyes were looking over my shoulder like he could not look me in the eye. And it was not a sincere, ‘I’m really sorry, you know, that your son died,’ but it was totally insincere, more of whining type, ‘I’m sorry.’”

‘Epic reform’ needed to fix growing VA claims backlog, says former official
Excerpt: The inspector general also found that eleven VA employees managing the conference, improperly took gifts from contractors looking to do business or already in business with the VA.  Investigators found 335,000 encryption software of 400,000 licenses procured, still hadn’t been installed at a cost of $5.1 million.  The VA backlog of claims has also been piling up despite the VA now having 300,000 employees — making it the second largest agency in the federal government — and requested $140 billion for 2013. (Regime jumped on nationalization of US Health system because 1/6th of economy and, like a tumor, wanted to feed off an artery that supplies lifeblood for country (and jobs).  They demanded electronic records from private sector and have not even instituted electronic records in their own VA facilities.  Vets are faced with literally reams of papers with claims and stonewalling.  With Obamacare, the nation will be subjected to the regime’s “efficiency.” --Barb.)

Malala Yousafzai recovering “at an encouraging speed”
Excerpt: Malala Yousafzai, the 14-year-old student who was shot by a member of the Taliban, is recovering well in the a Birmingham hospital.  Yousafzai’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, called the girl’s attacker “an agent of Satan.” “She got right treatment, at the right place and at the right time,” he added, referring to the hospital care Malala has received. (The British Health System is the “right treatment” for this child?  Too bad the US does not have the balls to offer to help this child and her family.  Oh, no, regime in bed with the Taliban as well… Used to be American Healthcare attracted heads of state from around the world when they were ill…Barb)

Audit: Green jobs stimulus program wastes cash
Excerpt: President Obama’s green jobs training program, which was part of his stimulus, has failed on most key jobs measures, according to a new internal audit that found it was training workers who already had jobs that didn’t need green energy skills, and was failing to place new enrollees in jobs once they finished the training. The Labor Department’s inspector general also said grantees who received the green jobs-training money did a poor job of reporting their results.

Obama’s game of Battleship could prove deadly ---Planned budget cuts will not ‘maintain’ defense. By Capt. Duncan D Hunter USMC and Congressman R-San Diego
Excerpt: Meanwhile, when it was convenient on the debate stage, the president said, without any further explanation, that sequestration “will not happen.” That’s a first, coming from the president, following more than a year of contradictory statements and inaction, thus explaining why his latest prediction has received so much attention.

Bill O’Reilly Tears Into Brian Williams For Giving Obama A ‘Pass’ On Libya
Excerpt: O’Reilly brought up a report that said urgent requests for backup in the Benghazi consulate were not followed up on by the CIA. During a radio interview, Obama claimed that he was not “personally aware of” any security requests. O’Reilly sighed and criticized Obama for not being able to explain exactly what happened in Libya. He could not comprehend why the president is still unable to clarify the situation, considering how much misinformation was put out by his administration.

WaPo Fact Checker: Now, in the final presidential debate, Obama sought to toss the hot potato of sequestration — the process that is forcing those defense cuts and reductions in domestic spending — into Congress’s lap. ... We had been wavering between Three and Four Pinocchios. But in light’s of Lew’s decision to doubledown on Obama’s claim, we agree it’s a whopper.

Glass Jaw O-ba-ma. By Hugh Hewitt
Excerpt: If Peggy Noonan is correct, and the president’s performance in the first debate revealed him to be “[p]etulant, put upon, above it all, full of himself,” then the two weeks since have shown him to own what they call in the world of boxing, “a glass jaw.” A glass jaw is the inability of a fighter to take a direct hit, one on the chin, a roundhouse. Once hit, a glass jaw boxer goes down and usually doesn’t get back up. If he does manage to get on his feet, he staggers around, lost and confused. for the rest of the fight as his opponent pummels him. “Staggering around” is the best way to describe the president’s actions since the first debate in Denver. Mitt Romney has grown larger, more confident, full of energy and optimism, and not just about his campaign and the election, but for the country.

Reagan Defense Official: If Obama Really Gave The Order To Secure Libya Personnel, ‘There’s A Paper Trail.’ By  Madeleine Morgenstern
A former Department of Defense official said Friday that if President Barack Obama really gave an order to secure U.S. personnel when the consulate in Libya came under assault, there will a paper trail to prove it. Francis “Bing” West, who served as an assistant secretary of defense under President Ronald Reagan, told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren that the president’s explanation about his actions when the U.S. mission in Benghazi was attacked should be easily verifiable.

Excerpt: Well, we recently learned that Newsweek will cease printing a paper edition of the weekly news magazine in December.  Good.  Newsweek is a prime example of the madness of liberals; they would rather die in some weird form of martyrdom than clean up their act and offer unbiased and objective reporting.

Absentee Ballots Sent To Military ‘Burned In Crash’
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2012/10/26/absentee-ballots-destroyed-in-crash
Excerpt: Federal officials say that absentee ballots being sent to U.S. military serving in Afghanistan may have been burned in a plane crash. A top official in the Federal Voting Assistance Program this week notified election officials across the nation that a transport plane crashed at Shindad Air Base on Oct. 19…Federal officials in their email to state election offices said they did not know if any ballots were destroyed. They also said the lost mail was limited to one zip code. (Comment from MARK IN GERMANY: Wow, you know what is funny? I'm a retired Army Sergeant in Germany and was able to get an electronic ballot thru my email. I didn't have to wait for a ballot. True, I have to print it, fill it in and snail-mail it back, but no waiting time on getting a ballot. Why is it so hard to do in A-stan? All those Service Members can fill in the application as I did and get an answer within a few days. I didn't even start the process until after the beginning of Oct. and my ballot is already in Texas (my home state).  Me thinks someone high up doesn't want our Service Members to know about this easy to use alternative. If by chance any Service Member happens to see this, below is the link to register to vote in your state and receive an electronic ballot. http://www.fvap.gov/

Excerpt: On Friday’s “America Live” on the Fox News Channel, Chip Woods, the father of slain Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods said the lack of response from the Obama administration on Sept. 11, 2012 showed “cowardice.” And he labeled as “murderers” the administration officials who stalled the decision to act immediately to the terrorist attack that claimed his son’s life, and lied about it afterward. While Woods disapproves of the White House’s response to the attack on the U.S. consulate in BenghaziLibya, he told host Megyn Kelly that his decision to speak out had nothing to do with politics.

U.N. Human Rights Council Calls for Boycott of U.S. Companies
Excerpt: The Washington Free Beacon has obtained a report soon to be released by the United Nations that calls for an international campaign of legal attacks and economic warfare on a group of American companies that do business in Israel, including Hewlett-Packard, Caterpillar Inc., and Motorola Solutions Inc. The Human Rights Council (HRC), a body dominated by Islamic countries and known for its hostility to, and heavy focus on, the Jewish State, issued the report. The George W. Bush administration refused to participate in the HRC, but President Barack Obama joined it soon after taking office. (Obama joined a majorly radical group, and ... now its anti-Israel agenda is going to threaten US companies! --Del. But Obama said he stands with Israel... ~Bob.)

Humanitarian Hypocrisy. By Raymond Ibrahim
Excerpt: Muslim Turks care about American Indians, and U.S. Protestants care about Muslim Palestinians—but no one cares about persecuted Christians. The world's double standards concerning which peoples qualify as oppressed and deserving of help are staggering. Two recent stories illustrate this point:
