Random Thoughts for February 2021

Random Thoughts for February 2021

Robert A. Hall

Feel free to post or forward.

Health update: I’m at least 98% recovered from the left lung removal in June. Big problem now is the arthritis in my hip, very painful. I had a cortisone shot last week, and it’s some better for pain, but I know that only lasts a few weeks and I can only get on every three months. I see ortho on 1/9 and will try to convince them to do a hip replacement. It’s risky because I’m immune-suppressed from my transplant in 2013. Since I was executive director of AAHKS, I know that one to two % of joint replacement become infected, which could be fatal. I think that gives me a 49-1 shot with a replacement. I will take the risk if they let me. I Don’t want to spend the rest of my life in pain and in a wheelchair or a bed. I’d rather throw the dice again. Will keep you posted.

2nd COVID shot 2/4.

December 31, 2020 was the 15th anniversary of my cough. Much better since they took out my old lung; no longer coughing up blood.

We have lost the Senate. We have Trump to thank.

WWIII is over. China won.

People were hoping that 2021 would be better than 2020. January is not an encouraging start.

Biden and the Democrat should thank the Trump supporters who stormed the capital. It strengthens them incredibly. The summer of riots, looting, and violence in the cities is down the memory hole.

Post Trump, it will take a long time to rebuild the conservative movement. And the country will go through liberal hell because of it, as progressives ride roughshod over our rights.

I’ve never attended a presidential inaugural. This didn’t seem like a good year to start. Ut apparently walls work in Washington, if not on the borders.

I notice the media didn’t call the Trump riots “mostly peaceful protests.: I am appalled with this. It is the fruits of Democrats and the media going soft, at least, on Antifa and BLM riots and violence. As you sow…

From Facebook: They tell you that they're asking for unity, in reality they are demanding conformity...Know the difference.

"For the average person walking down a dark street late at night, a promise from a politician is worth far less than a .38 Special." ~ James Bovard (From Todd on Facebook)

On New Year’s Day, I had black eyed peas and pork brats. I don’t believe in superstitions, but I hear it’s good luck whether you believe or not.

If you want to talk to me, a robocall isn’t going to work.

Rights are something you have unless someone takes them away. Goods are things you don't have until someone gives them to you (ideally, in return for something of equal value). Liberals confuse the two. –Alison B

“The people to fear are not those who disagree with you, but those who disagree with you and are too cowardly to let you know.” - Napoleon Bonaparte (from my friend Todd)

People who think affirmative action works think giving someone a swimming proficiency certificate will keep them from drowning. –Alison B

Foreign aid: The tribute working people in the US pay to rich autocrats in the third world, hoping, vainly, for peace.

They have been diligent, a they should be, in tracking down and charging to rioters at the capitol. I wish they had been half as diligent in tracking down and charging BLM and Antifa? I am glad they are swiftly identifying and punishing those who rioted at the capitol. How about doing the same for the BLM and Antifa folks who rioted, looted, and attacked people in cities across the country this year? Why is that different?

Liberals think that saying the right thing is more important than doing it. –Alison B

A woman on Facebook said I was a, “Snowflake, liberal, asshole who should ‘f*** off’” I replied, “Nice talk. The kind I expect from liberals. Been a Republican since I campaigned for Nixon in 60 at 14. Conservative since I read Goldwater's "Conscience of a Conservative" at 16. Volunteered for the Marines at 18, for Vietnam at 20. Served 5 terms as a GOP state senator. BA in Govt, MEd in History. Executive for 31 years. Served another 6 years in USMCR while a senator. What personal risks have you taken to fight socialism, cupcake?” No answer.

Trump promised to surround himself with the best people. Funny how almost everybody he picked, VP Pense, the AGs, the SecDefs on down turned out to be deep state sleepers.

The latest impeachment effort isn’t about Trump. It is an attempt to box GOP legislators, who will be punished by pro-trump or anti-Trump voters no matter how they vote.

Last time we donated our $2400 stimulus check to our church’s good Samaritan Fund to help people in need. This time we need a new fridge, maybe a walk-in jetted tub and or mobility scooter for my hip arthritis. So….

Racism comes in all colors. –George S.

Martin Luther King believed you should judge people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin. That makes him a racist in woke culture.

Facebook bans political speech it doesn’t like, but accepts scam ads to get the money. ($40 mobility scooter, pill to get skinny, become a Scottish Lord.)

Had another call today that my social security account was suspended for fraud. Press one to talk to an officer if you don’t want to get arrested. I hit one. How come all the “SS officers” have an Indian accent? I hope he was fluent enough in English to follow my directions. Now getting scam robo calls about Amazon. Again, agent with an Indian accent.

If Canada sold the Keystone Pipeline to Bill Gates or some other billionaire Democrat donor, Biden would suddenly see the value in it.

They are claiming Biden removed the painting of President Andrew Jackson (considered the founder of the modern Democrat party) from the ovel office, but I think Jackson left of his own.

Biden believes anything Trump did is automatically bad. He’s going to be very constipated after four years.

For progressives, "unity" means "shut up and do what I tell you." -Alison B

I had over 300 emails on 1/22. I had to delete most unopened. About 100 from same person. I had to do an interview with a vet, write his life story, read it back to him, and send to my office to process. Also slept 11 hours, and did 3.5 hours of med stuff for my transplant.

Report clears UK’s largest Muslim charity of institutional anti-Semitism despite controversy over hateful posts on social media

Report clears UK’s largest Muslim charity of institutional anti-Semitism despite controversy over hateful posts on social media

Excerpt: In 2020, IRW trustees Heshmat Khalifa and Almoutaz Tayara stepped down after the British media unearthed posts they wrote on social media in 2014 and 2015 before taking jobs at the charity. Khalifa had called Jews the “grandchildren of monkeys and pigs.” Tayara posted a cartoon that depicted former US president Barack Obama with a Star of David emblazoned on his necktie. He also referred to Hamas’ military wing, which is listed as a terrorist group by the UK and the EU, as “heroes.”

Excerpt: Let’s close out the week by walking through the whole GameStop thing — but first, let’s observe that no matter what event occurs in the news, some folks will try to hammer it into a shape that fits one of their preexisting narratives. Also, some media voices belatedly realize Andrew Cuomo isn’t as great as he says he is, and China wants your DNA. Hey, at least it’s Friday.

Biden’s Pandemic Promises Careen into Reality. By JIM GERAGHTY

Biden’s Pandemic Promises Careen into Reality. By JIM GERAGHTY

Excerpt: President Biden made it clear that stopping the coronavirus pandemic was his top priority upon taking office, and the American people are likely to largely judge his presidency upon that, at least for the next year or so. The president is getting deserved grief for the difference between his late October promise, “I’m not going to shut down the economy, I’m not going to shut down the country, I’m going to shut down the virus,” and his assessment of a “dark winter” and recent assessment that “there’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.”

Biden Proposes $200 Gun Tax and Firearm Buyback Program Along with 13 page Form that Asks for Fingerprints and Photograph

This will be a difficult program to enact for the Biden regime. In 2020 a record number of Americans bought guns. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation 8.4 million people bought a gun for the first time in 2020….

Townhall reported:

Joe Biden would force semiautomatic rifle owners to either participate in a gun buyback program, or register their firearm under the National Firearms Act, which requires the payment of a $200 tax. This would extend to AR-15s and other common household rifles. Those who do not comply would face up to 10 years in federal prison, and a potential $10,000 fine.

Barb~Of course, registering is the first step in confiscation. Great Reset plan. Kiss the Constitution goodbye.

William Colby became CIA station Chief in Saigon in 1959 just as the north launched its “people’s war. Against the south” In 1975, when the US Congress reneged on our pledges to the Republic of Vietnam and handed them over to the long night of communism, Colby was director of the CIA. For 16 years he was as involved in Vietnam as anybody on the American side. His account of the war, what was done right and what was a mistake is worth reading. He believes, as do I, that a different outcome was within reach. It will give you a better understanding of the war. I learned many new things from the book. Trigger warning: it may open old wounds for Vietnam vets. Still it is well worth reading.

Predictions from my friend George Schneider:

Predictions from my friend George Schneider:

House Republicans will pile onto an impeachment motion.  Media and House Democrats will decry the move as cynical. When these times are at their bleakest, just think that we are only one feel of a 12 year old girl from getting the government back. China Joe strikes again. ~Bob

china

Note how the title as "Genocide" in quotes, which is normally the way you imply inaccurate use of a term.  Yet in the text the actual discussion make it plain that this has been under discussion for a long time and was in fact overdue.  In the NYTimes of course this is described only as a nasty trick to make life more difficult for Biden.  That it's valid and has been for a long time is immaterial, it's really only slimy politics on the part of Trump.  Well too damn bad, it's the truth and everyone knows it, and it was high time for it to be called out.  How Biden is going to deal with China, now so clearly demonstrated to be our enemy, and the cause of so much damage through their incompetence and dishonesty in handling the virus, is one of the major questions.  We'll see, but don't be surprised if it's not exactly aggressive or effective.

Our government says that the only places they can cut expenses is Police and Fire...

It doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent. This list is shocking. Over the years, our politicians have created
this enormous pork barrel of agencies that employ over 350,000 people directly and countless more via contracts with the State.

Almost all of these people get salaries, medical coverage, and pensions at our expense and almost all are unionized.

The Morning Dispatch: Vaccine Blame Game

The Morning Dispatch: Vaccine Blame Game

Team Biden’s Vaccine Blame Game
Are we well on our way to distributing and administering enough COVID-19 vaccine to get the pandemic under control, or is the federal effort to facilitate that distribution in shambles? The fledgling Biden administration staked out both positions at different points in the day Thursday.

It began with a CNN story, sourced to anonymous figures within the Biden transition team, that made a striking claim yesterday morning: The Trump administration, obsessed with overturning the results of the election to the exclusion of all else, let its vaccine distribution strategy fall into such sorry disrepair that Biden’s team was essentially starting from “square one.”

“There is nothing for us to rework,” one source said. “We are going to have to build everything from scratch.”

Then, on Thursday afternoon, a reporter asked President Biden whether his goal of administering 100 million vaccines in his first 100 days in office is ambitious enough. The new president bristled: “When I announced it, you all said it’s not possible. Come on, give me a break, man. It’s a good start.”

But here’s the rub: A pace of 1 million vaccines a day is only marginally higher than the pace reached during the first month of vaccine ramp-up during the Trump administration. According to a Bloomberg compilation of state vaccination data, the rate of inoculations—which has been gradually accelerating since late December—averaged 912,497 per day during the final week of the Trump administration.

There are two things going on here. The first is simple spin. Donald Trump’s strategic messaging typically consisted of wildly overpromising and then changing the subject; Team Biden is performing the more classic Washington maneuver of lowering expectations by aiming for a conservative target while bemoaning how poor of shape the last guy left things in.

As spin goes, it wasn’t very artfully done—particularly after Dr. Anthony Fauci, whom Biden has tapped as his chief medical adviser, disputed the characterization during an afternoon briefing. “We’re certainly not starting from scratch, because there is activity going on in the distribution,” Fauci said. “With the previous administration, you can’t say it was absolutely not usable at all. … So we are continuing, but you’re going to see a real ramping up of it.” By that point, however, the initial story had already rocketed around social media and been mentioned dozens of times on cable air.

From Facebook

In his first day on the job, China Joe Biden did virtually nothing that the American people wanted. He signed a bunch of highly symbolic executive orders which collectively don’t really amount to much.

#1. Mask Requirement – In order to fight the spread of COVID-19, Joe Biden has issued an executive order that “requires the use of the use of masks and social distancing in all federal buildings, on federal lands and by federal employees and contractors. This is a largely symbolic token gesture and will do nothing to contain the spread of COVID.
#2. Rejoining World Health Organization – Joe Biden has issued an executive order directing the government to rejoin the World Health Organization. The W.H.O. validated Chinese propaganda about the outbreak of COVID-19. The organization declined to call the outbreak in China a public health emergency of international concern on Jan. 22, at the same time there were confirmed cases in Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Thailand, and South Korea. After the WHO finally declared the emergency, it proceeded to drag its feet on declaring a pandemic, waiting until March 12.
#3. Rejoining The Paris Climate Accord – Joe Biden has issued an executive order directing the government to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord. The poorly negotiated Paris climate accord imposed unfair, unworkable and unrealistic targets on the United States for reducing carbon emissions. As the climate deal punished America’s energy producers with expensive and burdensome regulations, it gave other countries U.S. taxpayer-funded subsidies and generous timelines. Countries like China got a free pass to pollute for over a decade.
#4. Reviewing Trump Rollbacks – Joe Biden has issued an executive order that revokes the permit for the Keystone XL oil and gas pipeline and imposes a temporary moratorium on oil and gas leasing in ANWR. The 1,700-mile Keystone pipeline carries roughly 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta to the Texas Gulf Coast, passing through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma. Tens of thousands of jobs would be eliminated to placate environmental extremists.
#5. Student Loan Debt – Joe Biden has issued an executive order “to extend a pause on federal student loan payments through at least Sept. 3.” Loan payments were paused in the CARES act.
#6. Housing Foreclosures – Joe Biden has issued an executive order delaying housing evictions and foreclosures until at least March 31, 2021. What about property owners?
#7. Ending the Muslim Ban – Joe Biden has issued an executive order that ends the so-called Muslim ban. It actually was a travel ban on travel from countries that have terrorism. The countries currently affected by the travel ban are Eritrea, Sudan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Myanmar, Nigeria, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, North Korea, Tanzania and Yemen. This increases the risk of terrorism in the U.S.
#8. DACA – Joe Biden has issued an executive order to preserve DACA. The Supreme Court already said they could not be deported.
#9. Border Fence – Joe Biden has issued an executive order to suspend construction of the Trump border fence. More people are now in the caravans headed to the U.S. than were at Biden's inauguration.
#10. Census – Joe Biden has issued an executive order to reverse a Trump plan to exclude illegal aliens from being counted in the 2020 Census. The difference between citizen and non-citizen is being blurred.
#11. Comprehensive Immigration Reform – Joe Biden is sending a bill to Congress to grant amnesty to all illegal aliens in the country.
Sleepy Joe wants everyone who was in the U.S. since January 1st to have a pathway to citizenship.
#12. Racial Equity – Joe Biden has issued an executive order to launch a “a government-wide initiative directing every federal agency to review its state of racial equity and deliver an action plan within 200 days to address any disparities in policies and programs. Race and identity politics will be front and center in his administration.
#13. Underserved Communities – Joe Biden has “created an equitable data working group to make sure federal data reflects the country’s diverse makeup and direct the Office of Management and Budget to allocate more federal resources to underserved communities. Political correctness.
#14. Rescinding Trump’s 1776 Commission – Joe Biden has scrapped Donald Trump’s 1776 Commission. Patriotic education takes a backseat to the 1619 project.
#15. LGBTQ Workplace Discrimination – Joe Biden has signed an executive order “prohibiting workplace discrimination in the federal government based on sexual orientation and gender identity and directing federal agencies to ensure protections for LGBTQ people are included in anti-discrimination statutes.” Symbolic.
#16. Revoking Trump’s 2017 Interior Enforcement Executive Order
– Trumps order encouraged states and localities to enforce federal immigration laws.
17. Protecting Liberians Who Fled Civil War – Joe Biden will extend the Liberian deportation deferral until at least June 2022. Donald Trump created a path to citizenship for them by signing the 2020 NDAA.
