Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 26, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for October 26, 2012
Robert A. Hall

Long today, but a lot of important links. ~Bob

I’ll be gone
Just a heads up that I have business travel November 1-4 for the annual conference of the surgeons’ association I manage. I will have almost no computer time, so will not be doing a SitRep. You’ll be on your own for news. I may be able to pop on and post a few items I’ve been saving.

Do something for your country now—or lose it
Anything you can do between now and election day to get low-information voters educated and to the polls to vote for people, from Romney on down, who may—I say may—have the courage to make the critical and painful decisions that will stave off the coming fiscal collapse will make a difference. It’s now or never.

Robo-Polls
I’ve now been robo polled three times about the local Congressional race. But the questions were even handed, so I couldn’t tell which campaign was conducting them, thus didn’t know if I should lie or not….

Worth Reading: Lies Fall to the Paper Trail Truth. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Now documentation (and surely more to come) is before the public eye that shows a big lie told and is continuing to be told to the citizenry. And it's known that not only did the leadership have forewarning of the attack they had real-time visibility as it unfolded and played out. President Obama, the commander-in-chief, is in the thick of it - and he's sworn to protect America, and Americans - wherever they may be. What was his next move? Vegas, baby - a campaign/fundraiser stop. (But are low-information voters paying attention to the truth. My own take is that they made a political call that the death of four Americans carried less political risk that the risk of a bloody fire fight trying to save them. And they may be able to keep a lid on this until November 7. ~Bob.)

Media Moving Against Obama Benghazi Lies
Excerpt: As promised, the Mainstream Media stalwarts are joining in the chorus to find out what Obama knew and when regarding the Benghazi Massacre. ABC News, CBS News, CNN, and even strongly pro-Obama NBC News have or are featuring stories regarding the apparent White House cover-up that now surrounds the Benghazi attack.

Drones were circling above U.S. consulate during Libya attack but officials decided NOT to mount a rescue mission
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2220153/Christopher-Stevens-Ambassador-pleaded-extra-security-Libya-hours-killed.html#ixzz2AHydZx6H
Excerpt: American drones were in the skies above the U.S. consulate in Benghazi as the deadly attack that killed ambassador Christopher Stevens unfolded, it has been revealed. Defense department officials considered sending troops in to rescue the ambassador and staff, according to CBS News, but ultimately decided not to. They would haven been able to watch the attack on-screen as it unfolded.

Excerpt: GOP challenger Mitt Romney apparently made the decision to take the high road and avoid a slug-fest over the issue. And that's unfortunate, because the decision-making that accompanied the debacle in Beghanzi deserves some sort of public airing. Almost two months after the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, President Obama has never explained what he knew of the attack, and his actions that followed.

'Benghazi attack suspect' dies in Cairo shootout
How convenient. ~Bob. Excerpt: A man suspected of involvement in an attack on the US consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi last month has been killed in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, officials say. The man was killed after an exchange of fire with security services in the Cairo suburb of Madinet Nasr.

Obama White House Knew Al-Qaeda Ally Hit Benghazi. By Matthew Vadum
Excerpt: Two hours after last month’s deadly assault on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, the Obama White House knew the operation had been orchestrated by Muslim terrorists with ties to al-Qaeda, new evidence demonstrates. But that grim information failed to deter President Obama, who has consistently been more interested in golfing than in attending security briefings, from hopping onto Air Force One on the eleventh anniversary of 9/11 and jetting off to Las Vegas for a campaign fundraiser.

Carney: ‘Everyone’ Knew About Terrorist Claims ‘Instantaneously.’ By Ben Shapiro
Excerpt: Those emails, to refresh, showed that within two hours of the attacks, the White House had been informed that the action on the ground was a terrorist attack. …Carney acknowledged today not only that the White House knew, but that it knew “instantaneously”: The email you’re referring to was an open-source, unclassified email referring to an assertion made on a social media site that everyone in this room had access to and knew about instantaneously. (Comment by Patrick Kean: “They watched the firefight in real time from a Drone flying over the site about two hours into a 6 to 7 hour confrontation. US military assets could have been flown over to hit the enemy within an hour after the first video was sent to the Situation Room. Question: Why did Obama go to bed while the Ambassador was still alive? Given video showed absolutely it was a terrorist hit, not a protest, and he lied from day one.”)

Clip Proves White House Lied About Benghazi. By Joel B. Pollak
Excerpt: CBS News has released a clip of an interview by Steve Kroft of 60 Minutes on Sep. 12 with President Barack Obama that indicates Obama knew the assault on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya was a premeditated terror attack--and suggests the White House later deceived the public by blaming protests against an anti-Islam video. CBS chose not to air the clip for over a month--but did air Obama’s attack on Romney that same night.

Excerpt: Our president may be a self-interested narcissist who goes to campaign and fund raise in Vegas when Americans under his watch are dying in Libya, but you and I as patriotic citizens of this country, not to mention empathic humans — can behave differently. My wife Sheryl Longin and I just sent a small check to the Ty Woods Memorial Account (c/o The Irving Group, 4320 La Jolla Village Drive, San Diego, CA 92122) to help the family of the former SEAL who died in the Benghazi terror attack. Woods has a widow and a baby son. (Check sent. ~Bob.)

MI in play? Detroit News Editorial: Mitt Romney for President
Excerpt: Hope and change are still what Americans are seeking. This time, Republican challenger and Michigan native Mitt Romney offers the best hope of changing the nation's fate. (Tweet from Kevin Eder ‏@keder: So after several months of Obama lies and distortions about Romney's view on the auto industry, the Detroit News endorses...Mitt Romney. LOL)
Poll: Obama and Romney tied in swing state Michigan
President Obama and Mitt Romney are tied in the critical battleground state of Michigan, according to a Foster-McCollum-White-Baydoun poll released late Wednesday.

Worth Reading: Obama's Death by Jobs: Everything you wanted to know about killing jobs, but were too afraid to ask. By Henry I. Miller (Robert Wesson Fellow in Scientific Philosophy and Public Policy)
Excerpt: The recent jobs report—a paltry 114,000 jobs created in September, 17 million Americans unemployed or underemployed, and the unemployment rate at 7.8 percent—reflects poorly on President Obama’s management of the economy. .. . Economic prospects are dismal. … A report from the World Economic Forum offers some insight into the reasons for our dire economic straights, highlighting the administration’s shortcomings: the erosion of transparency in government, wasteful spending, burdensome regulation, and waning trust in the integrity of the public sector.

Excerpt: President Obama has a new booklet—a glossy, 20-page spread called “The New Economic Patriotism: A Plan for Jobs and Middle-Class Security.” The title is completely Orwellian, since the plan—which is nothing new—would actually kill jobs, harming the middle class. As expected, the “new patriotism” means paying more in taxes for those small business owners who create many of the nation’s jobs.

An Energy Policy for Long-Term Economic Growth. By H. Sterling Burnett
Excerpt: U.S. will before long confront energy shortages that will make its current economic malaise look mild by comparison. Fossil fuels, oil, and natural gas alone are critical for transportation and increasingly for electricity, but they also serve as feedstock for plastics, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, lubricants, and construction materials. … The first political dictum for any policy should be "Government, do no (further) harm." As applied to the U.S. energy situation, this means immediately halting a variety of recently enacted and proposed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations that would restrict energy choices and raise energy prices. Congress should halt the EPA's climate regulations in their tracks.

Excerpt: Conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin’s legal group is suing the Environmental Protection Agency to obtain documents pertaining to the regulations the agency plans to implement after the election. (Why would you need to sue “the most transparent administration in history” for documents? ~Bob.)

Whose School Buildings Are They, Anyway? Making public school facilities available to charters. By Nelson Smith
Excerpt: But there’s a catch: traditional public-school districts still own the great majority of school buildings, and with rare exceptions, public charter schools have no legal claim to them. If charters want to build their own facilities, they face enormous obstacles. They have no taxing power, no access to state capital budgets, and, ordinarily, no bonding authority—they are shut off from the prevailing public sources of revenue for school construction.

Obama Says To Look At "Videotape" For His Flip-Flops
And they do. ~Bob.

Welfare Spending at All-Time High…and Growing. By Robert Rector and Rachel Sheffield
Welfare spending has hit a stunning, all-time high. A new Congressional Research Service report confirms what research here at The Heritage Foundation has shown: The government’s means-tested welfare programs now cost taxpayers roughly $1 trillion a year. (This figure does not include either Social Security or Medicare.) …. The federal government runs over 80 means-tested programs providing cash, food, housing, medical care and social services to around 100 million Americans. That’s a third of the U.S. population. (Got to add in Mexico and disability for all those addicted to street drugs they buy with their disability dole. –Barb.)

Why Palestinians Want Israeli Citizenship. By Khaled Abu Toameh
Excerpt: The Palestinian Authority says it is worried because of the rise in the number of Palestinians from Jerusalem who are seeking Israeli citizenship. Hatem Abdel Kader, who is in charge of the "Jerusalem Portfolio" in the ruling Fatah faction in the West Bank, revealed that more than 10,000 Palestinians from Jerusalem have been granted Israeli citizenship. Abdel Kader attributed the growing phenomenon to the failure of the Palestinian Authority and the Arab and Islamic countries to help the Palestinian residents of Jerusalem.

Israel ‘Accused’ of Ensuring Gazan’s Had Proper Nutrition
Excerpt: The most interesting aspect of the Guardian/AP report on Oct. 17, ‘Israel used calorie count to limit Gaza food during the blockade,’ in addition to the extremely misleading headline, is that there is little if anything in the story which demonstrates that Israel did anything improper whatsoever.

Shot off-duty cop kills thug; manhunt continues for robbers in The Bronx
Excerpt: A heroic off-duty NYPD officer was shot last night after breaking up a mugging in The Bronx — but still managed to chase down and kill one of the robbers, officials said. Excerpt: Cricket authorities in Pakistan are to buy bulletproof buses for foreign teams to try to persuade them to end a boycott prompted by militant attacks.

Double-secret probation: Student threatened with punishment after filming Democratic congressman’s abortion answer
Excerpt: Has Engstrom been hailed as a hero for publicizing the raw, uncut statements of a sitting member of Congress running for re-election? Has she been lauded for her passion about politics and for exercising her right to free speech? Of course not.

Illegal Aliens and Federal Benefits
Excerpt: Theoretically, the law forbids illegal aliens from receiving benefits reserved for American citizens with the exception of emergency Medicaid. In practice, it does not prevent any of them from applying for and receiving benefits paid for by American taxpayers who sometimes, are themselves denied benefits

Excerpt: But how did the once-messianic incumbent find himself in this fix of playing the catch-up role of a bar-room-brawling challenger rather than a calm and confident president? Despite running ahead in the polls for most of the year, Barack Obama has rarely achieved a 50 percent favorability rating, largely because of four years of dismal economic news. Obama himself had warned us four years ago that if he didn't restore prosperity, he would be a one-term president -- and the debates taught us that he was probably right.

Obama Slashes Four Hours Off Definition of "Full-Time" Employment. By Mike Shedlock
Excerpt: Interestingly, the Obamacare mandate says Anyone Who Works 30-Hour Week Is Now 'Full-Time'

Excerpt: The Big Obama Lie: "I'm not taking $716 billion dollars from Medicare…I'm just reducing payments to providers" Has anyone wondered why seniors haven't bought into the Obama campaign's lies saying Romney's policies on Medicare threaten them? Perhaps it's because Obama's policies are far worse! You see, seniors are already running into problems in getting health care as both Congress and Obama has done much to damage the relationship seniors have with their personal doctors.

U.S. Embassy warns Americans of jihad terror alert in Egypt
Excerpt: Ah, the Arab Spring -- what a wonderful flowering of democracy and pluralism! "US Embassy Warns Americans of Terror Alert in Egypt," by Chana Ya'ar for Israel National News, October 24: The US Embassy has warned American citizens in Cairo to remain alert and be aware the diplomatic mission has “credible information” terrorists are “targeting female missionaries in Egypt.”

Pennsylvania in Play?
Traditionally Pennsylvania Republicans can not post political signs too early before elections without having their signs and property severely damaged by vandals of the Democrat Race. Many, many Democratic signs have been posted early. This year this has backfired on the Democrats because it is so blatantly obvious that the Democrats are not posting Obama Biden signs with the local candidate signs. In the final week of the campaign thousands upon thousands of Romney Ryan signs will be distributed throughout Pennsylvania to be posted along with the signs of local candidates. Conservative Radio Hosts are supporting our efforts. Dom Giordano, Talk Radio 1210 (9AM to 12PM ) will be a center point for the Romney Ryan Sign Blitz in the Philadelphia Suburbs. On Friday, 10/26/2012, 9 AM to 12 PM, 1,000 Romney Ryan Signs will be given out to people who come in their Automobiles to # 3 West Lancaster AvenueArdmore, PA. First Come First Served Many local candidates will be there distributing these signs Rules: Line up your cars ... get your sign ... then please move on ... it is a high traffic area If you can stop by Ardmore RR Station with your sign ... buy a cup of coffee and a muffin ... they are supporting this event ... so give them your support The event will be broadcast on the radio Dom Giordano Show Talk Radio 1210, 9 AM to 12 PM, Philadelphia time. The Broadcast can be accessed nationwide on the Internet Talk Radio 1210 I will do whatever I can while I am there ... planning to bring my camera. We can win Pennsylvania! –Bob Greer. Rendell: ‘Startling upset’ for Romney ‘a possibility’ in Pennsylvania
Excerpt: Former Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said he “believes” a victory for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney in Pennsylvania is “a possibility” since both President Obama and Romney have not actively campaigned in the state.
Excerpt: “Mr. Attorney General, do you think is appropriate to be taking pictures with DOJ lawyers who will be enforcing election laws during President Obama’s reelection?” Schoffstall asks Holder, who was just inches away. “Do you think that is appropriate Mr. Holder?” Holder does not answer, and instead turns his head away from the reporter as he heads to a waiting black SUV. “Hey sir, they gonna be nice to you, I’m not,” says the officer, as he shunts Schoffstalll backwards across the public sidewalk on G Street.

Democrat Surrogates Scatter When Asked About Obama’s Kill List. By John Sexton
Excerpt: One question that did not come up in Monday's foreign policy debate was the President's use of drones to target specific individuals, including American citizens, for death – aka, the president's "kill list." When asked about it in the spin room of the Hofstra debate last Tuesday, three different Obama surrogates--Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Chuck Schumer and Robert Gibbs--literally walked away from the question.

Obama: 'Absolutely' No Regrets For Ignoring Economy For First Two Years
Excerpt: Obama attempts to describe the overhaul of the health care system as "a central economic priority for the country," but that is a giant stretch, and is an opinion not widely shared by Americans at the time--or since. In fact, it is arguable that the passage of Obamacare dramatically slowed job creation and economic recovery. A graph from the Heritage Foundation makes a compelling case that Obamacare was a dramatic economic drag:

Exclusive: Anti-Mormon Bigot Behind Obama/Allred ‘October Surprise.’ By John Nolte
Excerpt: As I write this, Barack Obama's gal-pal Gloria Allred and the Boston Globe have aligned themselves with the Chicago Machine in a partisan crusade to launch an October Surprise against Mitt Romney. That we all know. What you might not know is that Allred's client, Maureen Sullivan, the woman pushing to unseal the gag order on her own divorce records, is an embittered leftie, a Huffington Post "Super User," and a vicious anti-Mormon bigot.

Laura Bush encourages Americans to rally around 15-year-old Pakistani girl who survived Taliban shooting. By Tom Benning
Excerpt: Former first lady Laura Bush is encouraging Americans to set aside partisan differences and rally around Malala Yousafzai, a 15-year-old Pakistani girl critically shot by the Taliban this month. Bush, who wrote an op-ed about Malala two weeks ago in the Washington Post, told Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly Wednesday that the “lesson is to everyone, really, worldwide, that we need to have the courage to speak up.” …And certainly our respect for human rights and for human dignity and for education for girls and boys brings us together.”

Napolitano says 200K illegal immigrants have applied for deferred deportation. By Jordy Yager
Excerpt: Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said on Wednesday that more than 3,000 young illegal immigrants are applying for deferred deportation every day under the administration’s new immigration policy. About 200,000 young people in the country illegally have applied to defer their deportation for at least two years and get a temporary work permit since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) began accepting applications under the new rules two months ago, according to Napolitano.

Obama to Iowa newspaper: Healthcare law isn't 'scary monster' painted by GOP. By Sam Baker
Excerpt: Obama raised the issue of healthcare as he said he hopes to tackle immigration reform and deficit reduction in a second term, after the partisan rancor over his first-term achievements has subsided. "So assume that you get those two things done in the first year, and we're implementing Wall Street reform, Obamacare turns out not to have been the scary monster that the other side has painted. Now we're in a position where we can start on some things that really historically have not been ideological," Obama said.

Obama offers different view on defense sequester. By Erik Wasson
Excerpt: President Obama said he is prepared to use the $109 billion sequester as leverage to force action on a grand deficit bargain in an initially off-the-record interview with the Des Moines Register that was released Wednesday…..He blamed Congress for coming up with the idea, even though White House officials were intimately involved in designing the sequester last year to force action with a stalled Congress on the deficit. The White House on Tuesday walked back Obama’s comments, saying that he still intends to use the sequester unless he gets the balanced replacement with tax increases that he is seeking from Congress.

UN looks to develop anti-terror Internet surveillance. By Josh Peterson
Excerpt: The United Nations is considering spying on social networks, tracking cell phones and pushing Internet Service Providers to retain user information in the name of combating terrorism. The organization released a 148-page document on Monday at a conference in Vienna. Called “The use of Internet for terrorist purposes,” the document seeks “to provide practical guidance to member states for more effective investigation and prosecution of terrorist cases involving the use of the Internet.”

Who Won the Debates? 49% Say Romney, 41% Obama
Excerpt: Most voters consider the three presidential debates at least somewhat important to how they will vote, and a plurality of those that watched thinks Mitt Romney was the overall debate winner.

The truth about Barack Obama is that he simply cannot tell it.
Excerpt: In four years, Obama has gone from "change you can believe in" to a man you simply cannot believe. And it's not just Benghazi-gate, although that's a good place to start.

NYC Terrorist Arrest
Kudos to all. Well done. In 1987 while assigned to Boston Logan Airport (Mass State Police) I had cause to have conversation with a Syrian with an expired passport travelling one way without baggage etc, etc . Took most of his documents(some of which I still possess) and contacted FBI and INS. No help with both agencies, but…I had a long talk with a counterterrorism FBI Special Agent, Boston office, and he stated to me back in 1987 that the greater Boston area, specifically Cambridge, MA, had multiple cells that they were aware of. ( I was sensitive to bombings because Sgt. Maj. Fred Douglas USMC KIA Beirut 1983 was a close friend) If they could kill almost 400 Marines in Beirut they could do the same in USA! I was just ahead of the power curve. Point being, if extremist Islamist sleeper cells were identified and monitored in significant numbers in 1987---what is the threat today that we are unaware of? Is DOJ sitting on a bombshell of information that they are keeping the American people ignorant of because we have a president who has a bizarre disinclination to publicly recognize an enemy threat? We all receive alarmist emails---but are they alarmist or are they indeed exclaiming that we collectively have a dagger at our heart? --Tom Constantine, US Marine Corps Ret, Mass State Police Ret

Analysis: Americans to face tougher 2013 on rising prices, taxes
Excerpt: Consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets next year to pay for costlier healthcare, more expensive grocery bills and higher taxes, an extra drag on the country's already slow-moving economy. The additional outlays look set to test the resilience of consumers, whose spending accounts for around two-thirds of the U.S. economy.

A CEO's Powerful Warning. By Charlie Sykes
Excerpt: But this is a powerful warning from Mike White, the chairman and owner of Rite Hite, who warned employees of the real-world consequences of re-electing Obama. Read it here. White tells workers "should understand the personal consequences to them of having our tax rates increase dramatically if President Obama is re-elected, forcing taxpayers to fund President Obama's future deficits and social programs (including Obamacare), which require bigger government."

An ill wind blows from wind turbines. By Anthony Watts
Excerpt: Almost all predictions about the expansion and cost of German wind turbines and solar panels have turned out to be wrong – at least by a factor of two, sometimes by a factor of five. –Daniel Wentzel, Die Welt, 20 October 2012. When Germany’s power grid operator announced the exact amount of next year’s green energy levy on Monday, it came as a shock to the country.

Washington lacks courage to make tough decisions. By Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.)
Excerpt: Regardless of the outcome of the elections, members of Congress will return in November under enormous pressure to “turn off” automatic spending cuts and tax increases that are set to take effect at the beginning of next year. Members on both sides are pointing to a Congressional Budget Office study that says going over this fiscal cliff will plunge us into a recession. The CBO, however, only got it half right. It is tax increases, not spending cuts, that are a threat to our economy.

And his administration needs to provide Congress with detailed answers about its involvement in this scandal at once," said Don Seymour, a spokesman for the Ohio Republican.

Jane Roe of ‘Roe v Wade’ Airs Anti-Obama Ad in Florida (Video)

Excerpt: Watching the final debate, the more I considered Barack Obama's deplorably non-presidential affect and attitude; his reliance on corny, crudely-made zingers; and his almost pathological string of lies and distortions, the more it struck me that, at some level, he knows this is over. His speeches since then show an edge that belies the old “No Drama Obama” who was going to heal the bitter partisan divisions of the past. The aura of a losing campaign is unique, and Ross Douthat pegged it today:

Some plan. By A.B. Stoddard, columnist, The Hill
Excerpt: It's almost certain that President Obama released his agenda, titled "The New Economic Patriotism," the night before a Donald Trump blockbuster announcement designed to derail Obama's reelection. He had to have been hoping dearly the Trump stink-bomb would take all the oxygen away from any second-day stories about the "plan for jobs and middle-class security" the campaign published. It's not just that the plan is the first voters have heard of any Obama has for his second term — two weeks before Election Day — but that the brochure is about as cheesy a cheap shot as they come.
