Random Thoughts for September, 2013

Random Thoughts for September, 2013
Robert A. Hall

Get the collection! My “Random Thoughts” from 2008 through July, 2013 are now collected in this book: The Old Jarhead's Journal: Random Thoughts on Life, Liberty, and Leadership by Robert A. Hall
The Old Jarhead’s Journal is a collection of Random Thoughts on politics and life and Conservative Political Essays, mostly published on the author’s blog, including the essay “I’m Tired” which went viral on the Internet in 2009, “The Hall Platform,” “This I Believe,” and “Why I’m a Republican.” While they will be of interest to conservative thinkers, they are collected here in book form as a service to readers who wish to give a copy to a favorite liberal and watch his or her head explode. All royalties are donated to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.

The public is strongly against military intervention in Syria. But the public is strongly against Obamacare, and strongly for the Keystone Pipeline and Voter ID laws, so what the people want does not matter a whit to the elites.

Remember when the anti-war movement was considered to be a force, before they were bought off by Obama Phones? Good days.

The three-step plan: Muslims hate America, which they think is controlled by Jews. America attacks Syria. Muslims rally to Syria.

95% of gun violence is New York City is from blacks or Hispanics. But better to die than profile, because it’s racist, you know. And the fact that the vast majority of the victims are minorities? Tough for them. Better by far that they die than that a white cop loses his career to a racism charge.

I know that “wrong site surgery” is a problem, but I don’t think if they call me for a lung transplant, they are likely to replace a kidney by error.

Surprised people aren’t going around beating up anyone who looks like Obama, yelling, “This is for Brian Terry, Chris Stevens and the SEALs dead in Benghazi!” I mean if “Justice for Trayvon…”

Typical leftists, want to boycott and hurt the millions of residents of an entire state because they didn’t agree with the decision of six jurors.

Funny how the media tried to make every Republican responsible for Todd Akin’s comments on rape, but Weiner’s and Filner’s actions are theirs alone.

Read a story about a guy with two kids and one on the way who was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis at 28, dead at 29. At 67, I have nothing to complain about.

Phony scandals: IRS targeting political groups. Fast and Furious (hundreds dead). Benghazi (four Americans dead. NSA spying. Real scandals: Romney put dog on car roof years ago. Romney has binders full of women. Romney wants to defund Big Bird. Got it?

Cable News: 40% commercials. 20% beating a story to death where there is no real new news (Casey Anthony, Edward Snowden). 20% human interest “news” about things like a two headed goldfish. 15% talking heads shouting at each other. 5% news of interest. This is why I almost never watch Fox, CNN or MSNBC.

Let’s see, we are being drawn into Syria to “do something” about all the civilian casualties, while getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan, thus increasing civilian casualties. Have I got that right?

Hawaii is buying airline tickets for the homeless to return to the mainland. Maybe Michigan should buy bus tickets to other states for Detroit’s poor.

The military is thinking of having Atheist Chaplains. We had them back in my days in the USMC, but we called them “bartenders.”

I saw a bumper sticker in Madison, WI that just said “99%.” Big deal. 99% of us, including the vast majority of Romney voters like me, are in the “99%.” After all. If the 99% had all voted for Obama, Romney would have received less than 1%, especially considering that a lot of 1% folks, including Obama, Buffet, Soros, Michael Moore, Jon Corzine, the Kerrys, the Clintons and most mega stars in Hollywood, whose incomes are large and cognitive powers small, were for Obama.

The Obama administration is hitting the country on so many fronts that even the well-informed can’t keep track, never mind the low information voter. ObamaCare. Benghazi. Fast and Furious. IRS. NSA. Pigford. Muslim Brotherhood. Tax dollars to political cronies at failing green energy companies. Race baiting. Voter ID.  And on it goes. It’s like having your position overrun by a human wave attack. You can’t shoot enough of them fast enough to change the outcome.

Both the Boston Globe and the Washington Post have been sold. We call that, “Cashing out before the crash.”

They are planning to hold a “running of the bulls” in Chicago. Apparently someone thought that Chicago didn’t have enough stupidity. Even money that someone gets in the pen and paints gang signs on some of the bulls before the run.

A True Progressive never rests. There are always more people whose behavior you must control “for their own good,” because you are wise and they are stupid.

Are all those moms-to-be wearing tee shirts with an arrow pointing down and the caption “Baby” pro life? Wouldn’t it say “Fetus” if they were pro choice?

Every time I see “Impeach Obama,” I think “President Biden” and shudder. But unless Democrats in the Senate get behind it, zero chance.

I’m old (67) and now quite ill. But in my heart, I’m still a serving Marine.

Pvt. Bradley Manning, meet your new cellmate, Bubba.

Pro Sports: My hired criminals can beat your hired criminals.

The future belongs to the fertile. (Hint: It’s not western civilization. Mark Steyn says that 1,000 German men will have 400 sons, while 1,000 Afghan men will have 4,000 sons.)

The more we learn about Sydney Leathers, the clearer it is that she and Anthony Weiner (D-Carlos Danger) deserved each other.

Maybe Weiner’s wife is so understanding because she is a Muslim, and the Holy Qur’an, as revealed by Mohammad (PBUH) allows men to have four wives and unlimited concubines and slave girls.

President Obama, his administration and the Pentagon thinks that the Fort Hood murders were workplace violence, nothing to do with Islam, and were not Jihad Terrorism. But the murderer, Nidal Hasan, clearly disagrees. He says that his killings were done in the name of defending the Taliban as part of the Jihad to establish Islam everywhere as the perfect religion.

We were in a store parking lot recently, and I noticed the “Reserved for Expectant Mothers” parking sign was lying on the ground. “Look, Dear,” I said to my wife, “The Knocked Up sign got knocked down.”

People who praise sacrifice, from money to lives, are always more interested in having other people do the sacrificing.

The fact that you tick me off doesn’t make you special.

On a five-week tour of the west in 1903, President Teddy Roosevelt gave 263 speeches. All without using a teleprompter.

Suggested tee shirt: Anthony Weiner sends me the wurst tweets.

The boycott against Russian vodka is growing, because nothing says you support gays like sticking it to the workers who make vodka and have no say over Russian government policy on gays.

Heard the media called “White House Fluffers.” Gotta love it.

If speeches could turn around the economy, no one would be unemployed or under-employed.

All you need to know about Obamacare is that the Congress that passed it and the IRS employees who will enforce it don’t want to be part of it.

My wife is a Saint Louis Cards fan, while I root for the Boston Red Sox. That doesn’t mean we ever watch a game or could tell you what their standings were on any given day. But if they get in the series, we do check the game results. Usually.

As I get older, I think my tolerance for stupidity is declining. Hate wasting my limited time, I guess.

I realize the media has to refer to killers as “alleged perpetrators” to protect the jury pool from challenge. But I’m not aware of a legal reason they need to refer to a thug as “the gentleman.”

It’s amusing how the media never mention the race of a shooting victim or the shooter except in the rare cases when the victim is black and the shooter is white. Or can be declared white like registered Democrat, Obama voter and Hispanic George Zimmerman.

If Hilary Clinton is elected President in 2016, who will she blame for the mess she inherits? Bush blame is getting kind of long in the tooth.

See if I understand. It’s racist to treat Obama with the same level of criticism and ridicule that other presidents have been subjected to. Have I got that right?

Rodeo Clown in Obama mask: Racist hate crime. Left wing rapper making sex tape denigrating the heroic Harriet Tubman? Crickets.

Democrats are always brining up the KKK, but to be fair, since the Klan was all Democrats in its heyday they should know the most about it.

I know a lot of liberals who were opposed to developing the Osprey. Now that First Dog Bo has his own, I wonder how they feel.

Is it possible to disagree with an Obama policy or statement without being called a racist?

If you can’t stand the heat…pull out the race card.

Yuppie college student being denied free birth control? War on Women! Teen rape victims being stoned to death by Muslims for “adultery”? Multiculturalism!

Climate Change Deniers? How about Benghazi Deniers, IRS Targeting Deniers, Fast and Furious Deniers, NSA Spying Deniers…

Obama’s policies cannot stand on their own against criticism, must be protected by charges of racism as the only defense.

Since the left feels that Canada and Mexico are much more ethical and progressive than we are, we should only require voter ID when they do.

Wouldn’t it be cool if Obama would say, “Jesse Jackson Jr. could have been my son”?

Politics is no longer about solving problems (if it ever was). It’s about appeasing the base by postponing problems until they are much worse, but hit on someone else’s watch.

When you tell someone to “man up,” it’s always an insult, though often a deserved one.

Somewhere at the front in the War on Women: “Okay, men, this is a dangerous mission, and some of us won’t be coming back. Tonight we are going in to take out Sandra Fluke’s condom supply.”

I don’t know if the death penalty deters murderers. But it damn sure inters them.

Progressives: Fundamentally Transforming America into Detroit.

A lot of folks have problems that could be fixed with a little effort and self-discipline. But they’d rather complain about their problems than fix them.

One of Obama’s major problems is that he believes his own BS.

If you like your doctor, you can keep him. If you like your healthcare plan, you can keep it. If you like your tax rate, it’s not going up if you make under $250k a year. And if you like your president, you’re feeble-minded.

There’s no such thing as "idiot proof." We always breed better idiots.

If you lead a horse to water and he doesn’t drink, a kick in the gonads seldom improves the situation.

Chicago Blackhawk Brent Seabrook, Jersey Number 7, gave his new son the middle name of “Seven.” I suppose the kid will be glad dad wasn’t #69.

People who say there is no room at the top usually mean they don’t have the energy and determination to try to get there.

Plan B Birth Control: 15-year olds are adults. Health Insurance: 26-year-olds are children.

People are increasingly learning how to fly under the government’s radar, as they need to do in police states.

Why is it about race if a white (or white Hispanic) assaults a black. But not about race when a black assaults a white?

I think Bradley Manning and Nidal Hasan would make great cellmates.

I stopped in Target to buy cough syrup. Young, sharp-looking black clerk asked me for my ID. “That’s racist,” I said. “I don’t need an ID to vote.” Exactly,” he said, “It’s stupid, but they make me ask.”

The Obama Doctrine: Apologize. Bow. Hope. Find someone to blame.

Is it just me, or are the folks calling for us to “do something” about Assad gassing his own people, the same folks who were all upset when we “did something” about Saddam gassing his own people?

Baathists are a gas.

Following in trace with Bradley “Chelsea” Manning, I’ve always felt that I was a Duke trapped in a commoner’s body and I want to be called “Your Grace” from now on.

If people tell you they are “not a good person,” they are probably telling the truth.

I want to thank my wife for standing by me when my recent indiscretion came to light…wait, nothing came to light? Never mind, just kidding.

If college is a “right,” isn’t getting a PhD a “right”? I’m going back—at your expense!

Democrats are now demonizing Sen. Ted Cruz, thinking he’s a potential candidate. They did it to Sen. Marco Rubio, until conservatives took over because of amnesty.

If abortionists started using guns, liberals would be for the Second Amendment.

LBS ordered spying on Martin Luther King. Nice that Obama celebrated the 50th anniversary of MLK’s “Dream” speech by having the NSA spy on everyone. Consistent but inclusive, no?

Just because a conspiracy theory going around the net agrees with your world view doesn’t make it true. Or that you won’t look like an idiot f you jump on it without adding qualifications.

Southern slave owners used to claim that blacks were incapable of supporting themselves independently, participating in free government, getting an education, competing with whites in the job market and being civilized without being controlled. Do you think if you resurrected them and told them today’s black marriage rate, black crime rate, black high school graduation rate, black non-marital birth rate or black employment rate, you’d convince them they were wrong? Back before welfare and minimum wage laws, when the majority of black kids were born into two-parent families, when blacks had higher employment rates than whites and when an inner-city segregated school like Dunbar High in Washington, DC educated the children of poor blacks (with fewer resources than white schools) to score higher on tests than whites and to be leaders in the black community, because of parental involvement and discipline, they’d have been dead wrong. Given that I almost lost my life putting down the slave power (my great, great grandfather, Oliver Vernal, then childless, was badly wounded twice servicing with the Sixth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry), it pains me greatly that the results of our policies for the last 60 years would now confirm the slave owners in their evil beliefs.

Some things I had to share

Bush was derided for his "Coalition of the Willing" in Iraq. Looks like we will strike Syria with the "Collation of The One!" ~Bob

UK: Cameron delays Syria strike after Parliamentary revolt
Excerpt: The hopeless Cameron is thereby saved from himself. What, meanwhile, are the Republicans doing to stop Obama from this reckless and potentially disastrous attack? Why, nothing, as usual. They don't call it The Stupid Party for nothing.

British Prime Minister David Cameron fails in bid to add an extra 500 explosions to Syria. The Daily Mash
Excerpt: SYRIA’S civil war will witness slightly fewer explosions after MPs voted to keep British bombs for something else. Prime minister David Cameron pleaded with MPs to back his plan to make no difference whatsoever to the Middle East’s latest bout of total and complete insanity. But 30 Conservative backbenchers defied Mr Cameron and backed Labour’s plan to make no difference whatsoever to the Middle East’s latest bout of total and complete insanity.

Cameron first British leader to lose war vote in Parliament since 1782!
Excerpt: In a humiliating defeat for the British leader likely to damage Cameron's hopes of being re-elected in 2015 and set back traditionally strong U.S.-UK relations, parliament defied Cameron by 285 to 272 votes. Commentators said it was the first time a British prime minister had lost a vote on war since 1782, when parliament effectively conceded American independence by voting against further fighting to crush the colony's rebellion

After British Vote, Unusual Isolation for U.S. on Syria. By David E. Sanger
Excerpt: With a few exceptions in the past half-century, there has been a simple rule of thumb when it comes to international conflict: America does not use force without Britain at its side. So when Prime Minister David Cameron was unable to muster the votes in Parliament for support for a strike in Syria — even one limited to stopping the future use of chemical weapons — shock could be heard in the voices of senior White House officials who never saw the British rejection coming.

Syria: Enough moral grandstanding already. By James Delingpole
Excerpt: These are the only questions that mattered re Syria and I'm quite horrified that [British Prime Minister] Cameron tried to muddy the debate with emotionalism when he urged MPs to watch horror videos of the Syrian gas attack before they voted. Good governance should be about the business of doing what is right rather than what feels right or looks right. But Cameron, PR man that he is, very much prefers surface over depth.

Pelosi Rallies Congress for War
Excerpt: This is now the biggest argument to be against this. Pelosi never does anything right. Plus she will bomb the country so we can find out what is in it. Check it out: According to Politico sources, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pushed Obama administration officials “to take military action to punish Syrian President Bashar Assad in response to reports that he used chemical weapons in his nation’s ongoing civil war.

Sources: Pelosi Pushes For Syria Retaliation
Excerpt: According to Politico sources, Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pushed Obama administration officials "to take military action to punish Syrian President Bashar Assad in response to reports that he used chemical weapons in his nation’s ongoing civil war." Last night, Obama administration officials (sans Obama) held an unclassified 90 minute conference call after a growing number of Congress members demanded to be consulted regarding military action in Syria. Susan Rice, Chuck Hagel, John Kerry, Director of National Intel James Clapper and Sandy Winnefeld, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke for the administration. ("It’s all about a video” was a trial balloon for this installation of “it’s all about an intercepted phone call.” Benghazi was “phony, a bump in the road.” However, just a Benghazi’s secrets are not revealed by Regime, they are not revealing the rest of the story with Syrian chemical weapons which shows quite a different side. They are out to destroy a regime that protects Christians, Jews and a more tolerant way of life in order to turn loose the MB, AQ…for hubris, ego…Pelosi et al are puppets. Who believes Susan Rice? --Barb)

Obama may go solo with Syria strike; U.S., British lawmakers voice opposition
Excerpt: President Obama and his top aides tried to rally support Thursday for retaliatory strikes in Syria, saying they remain convinced that the Assad regime used chemical weapons, but hopes for an international coalition took a major hit when the British Parliament voted against military action. (wonder if Obama regrets sending the bust of Churchill back. Will Kenya join the US in a strike? ~Bob)

NBC poll: Nearly 80 percent want congressional approval on Syria
Excerpt: Still, a whopping 79 percent of respondents – including nearly seven-in-10 Democrats and 90 percent of Republicans – say the president should be required to receive congressional approval before taking any action.

Excerpt: The Obama administration has selectively used intelligence to justify military strikes on Syria, former military officers with access to the original intelligence reports say, in a manner that goes far beyond what critics charged the Bush administration of doing in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq war. According to these officers, who served in top positions in the United States, Britain, France, Israel, and Jordan, a Syrian military communication intercepted by Israel’s famed Unit 8200 electronic intelligence outfit has been doctored so that it leads a reader to just the opposite conclusion reached by the original report.

No idea who to believe on Syria. ~Bob. Rebels Admit Responsibility for Chemical Weapons Attack: Militants tell AP reporter they mishandled Saudi-supplied chemical weapons, causing accident. By Paul Joseph Watson
Excerpt: Syrian rebels in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta have admitted to Associated Press correspondent Dale Gavlak that they were responsible for last week’s chemical weapons incident which western powers have blamed on Bashar Al-Assad’s forces, revealing that the casualties were the result of an accident caused by rebels mishandling chemical weapons provided to them by Saudi Arabia. (Just got this in from a UK friend. The problem is, while Gavlak is indeed an AP reporter, this story does not seem to appear anywhere but blogs. Even Dale Gavlak's own web page does not seem to carry this story. Now it is possible that AP told Gavlak they would not publish it. And out of fear for his job, Gavlak decided not to put it on his own web page, which carries the AP logo. On the other hand, it could be fabricated. I put it down as unconfirmed. --Don Hank)

The Obama Doctrine. By Jamie Weinstein, The Daily Caller
The Obama Doctrine begins with deriding your predecessor for acting unilaterally -- even though he put together a coalition of four dozen countries for his military actions -- before planning an operation where you actually act unilaterally. In fact, you act so unilaterally that even America's number one military ally, Great Britain, doesn't participate. Then, you telegraph everything you are planning to do to the enemy through leaks. Finally, you get a senior administration official to tell the press something monumentally stupid like the president is trying to craft a military response "just muscular enough not to get mocked." It appears to TheDC Morning that Hillary Clinton's 2008 campaign ad didn't quite get it right. It's not just that President Obama appears unprepared for a 3:00 a.m. call. It seems he is unprepared for a 3:00 p.m. call as well.
I don't know the right decision on Syria, but basically telling them Saturday between 3 and 4 seems stupid.

Excerpt: If the American people are going to stop this war, they need to do it now. The following are 25 quotes about the coming war with Syria that every American should see…

One Great Big War. By David Brooks
Excerpt: Even Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain and Kuwait could be infected. “It could become a regional religious war similar to that witnessed in Iraq 2006-2008, but far wider and without the moderating influence of American forces,” wrote Gary Grappo, a retired senior Foreign Service officer with long experience in the region.

Don’t Send Our Troops to Syria! – SHARE IF YOU AGREE!
http://clashdaily.com/2013/08/dont-send-troops-syria-share-agree/

The Racist Liberal System. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: There is roughly 100% more evidence that James Edwards, one of the teenagers charged with Lane’s murder, was racist, than that George Zimmerman was racist. But the odds that Edwards will ever be charged with a hate crime, let alone be treated as a national poster boy for bigoted violence the way that Zimmerman was are laughably infinitesimal.

'Blasts happen, nothing new about them,' remorseless Yasin Bhatkal says
Excerpt: Branded as the face of modern day terrorism, Zarar Ahmed Siddibaba alias Yasin Bhatkal of the banned Indian Mujahideen (IM) who was arrested on Wednesday night, gained cult status in the home grown terror network after the 2008 Delhi serial blasts.

Minya: schools, churches and orphanages burnt to erase all traces of a Christian presence
Excerpt: With at least 20 attacks against churches, Christian schools and orphanages, Minya Governorate is the part of Egypt where Islamists struck with greatest violence and brutality.

Excerpt: California has become a mad rat chasing its own tail. Totally dysfunctional, with soaring unemployment, huge annual budget deficits, rife with crime, and over-run with illegals representing ten percent of the population of Mexico, the state never the less continues to legislate from Peter Panville. The 40 year dominance of liberal Democrats in the California Statehouse has proposed and passed all manner of laws that punishes anyone who dares to hold traditional American values and rewards the strangest of alternative lifestyles.

Police Not Interested In Brutal Beating On Tape: Officer tells victims 'zero' chance of finding attackers
Excerpt: A couple’s early-morning walk in the world famous French Quarter of New Orleans turned into a nightmare when they were beaten savagely by three black attackers in a horrifying scene that was caught on camera. Then it got worse: The responding police officer decided it wasn’t worth filing a report.

Good Column: Security you can see in Israel: A 16 year-old returns from the Jewish State with a fresh perspective --- and a message to the administration. By Truman Brody-Boyd
Excerpt: You may be thinking now that Israel is some restrictive society where people are hindered in their everyday lives. But this isn't so. The Israelis have grown up in a land where they must always be on their toes, ready to fight for what they believe at a moment's notice. They understand the necessity for all the security, and almost all are thankful for it. When waiting in the security lines, the only grumbling and discontent I heard was from other tourists like me.

Excerpt: Should parents be able to choose what cable channels they fund? Following the ultra risqu̩ MTV Video Music Awards this past weekend, more questions are being raised and pressure is being placed on Congress to pass the Television Consumer Freedom Act. The act would give parents and consumers a real solution for future raunchy programs Рthe ability to choose and pay for only the cable networks they want to see.

How Many More Nidal Hasans in Our Ranks? By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: Nidal Hasan spelled it out for his deaf, dumb and willfully blind military superiors: "We love death more then [sic] you love life!" He recommended that the military allow Muslim soldiers "the option of being released" to "increase troop morale and decrease adverse events." Hasan's report was ignored by his superiors, excluded from his trial and goes unheeded at the Pentagon today. Political correctness is an American soldier of Allah's best friend.

Excerpt: The Obama administration unexpectedly announced two new gun control measures on Thursday, including one that would curb the import of military surplus weapons -- in a move that could anger collectors. Vice President Biden announced the new measures Thursday morning. The new rules, announced while Washington was otherwise focused on the crisis in Syria, took the form of executive actions, which President Obama added to the list of 23 steps the White House already determined the president could take on his own. (Because, you know, M1 Garands are used so often by Chicago gangs...~Bob)

Islam Is Coming For Us All
Excerpt: The United States is the last hope for western civilization... If we do not change our ways as an entire culture – the future may very well belong to the Islamic religion. How will that play out for Christians who will soon be the minority religion? One simply has to look at the Christian church in the Islamic world to figure that out… persecuted, abused and murdered.

Arizona AG: Arrests made in state’s largest undercover food stamp operation seizure
http://dailycaller.com/2013/08/29/arizona-ag-arrests-made-in-states-largest-undercover-food-stamp-operation-seizure/#ixzz2dTPcmyrN
Excerpt: Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne announced the state’s largest undercover food stamp fraud bust and the arrests of three individuals involved on Thursday. K & S convenience store employees Kameel Sweiss, 51, Ameer Sweis, 22, Faday Sweiss, 33, were arrested Wednesday for allegedly illegally conducting an enterprise, fraudulent schemes and artifices, money laundering, unlawful use of food stamps and computer tampering.

Christian Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Drinking Water Reserved For Muslims
Excerpt: Aasiya Noreen "Asia" Bibi has been sentenced to death by hanging in Pakistan for drinking water "from a well belonging to Muslim women, [and] using 'their' cup in the burning heat of the midday sun." According the The New York PostAsia described her plight thus: "I have been sentenced to death because I was thirsty. I'm a prisoner because I used the same cup as those Muslim women, because water served by a Christian woman was regarded as unclean by my stupid fellow fruit pickers."

New Neighbor's Agenda: White Power Takeover
Excerpt: Their new neighbor, they thought, was just another person looking to get closer to the lucrative oil fields in western North Dakota known as the Bakken. But all that changed last week. The Southern Poverty Law Center and The Bismarck Tribune revealed that the man, Paul Craig Cobb, 61, has been buying up property in this town of 24 people in an effort to transform it into a colony for white supremacists.

Latest New York Times Denuciation of Israel. By Leo Rennert
Excerpt: As she makes clear in an Aug. 29 dispatch about how Israelis take in their stride the bloody and sickening upheavals next door ("Amid Chaos Israelis Take A Stoic View" front page) Israelis, she writes, remain preoccupied with the start of the school term, the finale of a popular TV show and preparations for the High Holidays, content to leave bigger problems to other people. For the most part, the article, based on interviews with two dozen Israelis, pretty much reflects a current mood, although a careful reading leaves the impression that this mood doesn't exactly suit Rudoren. In fact, there comes a point in the article where Rudoren abandons any and all pretense of objective journalism and lets fly at Israelis who draw a sharp and vivid contrast between their own progressive society and the anarchistic chaos in Syria, Egypt, and other Arab places.

Black Leadership and Racial Murder. By J. R. Dunn
Excerpt: If fifty people apply for a job that is given to an unqualified minority applicant, only one has actually been cheated. But the other 49 believe they have been. A system more clearly designed to increase resentment and animosity between the races is not easy to imagine.

For your long weekend reading

I will likely be off line for four days for the long weekend, and return to more e-mail than I can handle. Thanks to all who contributed. Again, a lot on Syria. Enjoy these offerings over the holiday, and stay safe. ~Bob

Warning for the National Vietnam and Gulf War Veterans Coalition

Excerpt: Democratic Sens. Barack Obama and Joe Biden repeatedly criticized ambassador’s John R. Bolton’s assessment that the dictatorship was seeking weapons of mass destruction only eight years ago.

Excerpt: We are on the verge of a war with Syria. Yet I don’t think the administration has as of yet articulated what its aims are and thus is confused about the means of obtaining them. Is the point of the impending military action to remove Assad, engage his opposition, and foster a consensual society in his place, as if the U.S. can at last do what so far the Arab Spring has not?

Boehner letter to Obama on Syria

Obama Leaks His Own War. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Stand outside the New York Times building with a bucket in one hand and a thick wad of wood pulp in the other, and you may even be able to figure out whether we’re going to war or, as one official told the Los Angeles Times, the air strikes will be “just muscular enough not to get mocked”… but not sinewy enough to really upset Tehran and Moscow.

Guest Post: What to do About Syria. By Col. Don Myers

AP Sources: Intelligence on Weapons No 'Slam Dunk'
Excerpt: The intelligence linking Syrian President Bashar Assad or his inner circle to an alleged chemical weapons attack that killed at least 100 people is no "slam dunk," with questions remaining about who actually controls some of Syria's chemical weapons stores and doubts about whether Assad himself ordered the strike, U.S. intelligence officials say. (Once we bomb Assad, Muslims who hate us—a majority—will rally to him. If it turns out we bombed the wrong folks, most Muslims will rally to him except those fighting him. ~Bob)

U.S. Facing Test on Data to Back Action on Syria
Excerpt: American officials said Wednesday there was no “smoking gun” that directly links President Bashar al-Assad to the attack, and they tried to lower expectations about the public intelligence presentation.

Syria. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: Attention, Democrats: our president is considering unilateral strikes against a Baathist dictator in the Middle East with a small coaltion and no U.N. authorization over WMDs, starting a war . . . that Donald Rumsfeld opposes. The Washington Post's liberal columnist, Eugene Robinson, supports it. It's like everyone in U.S. politics from 2003 just decided to trade uniforms and play for the opposing team simultaneously. Have Cindy Sheehan, the Dixie Chicks, and Janeane Garofalo called for air strikes yet? When does Michael Moore unveil his pro-war film? When do AEI, Halliburton, and Toby Keith attend an anti-war rally?

Excerpt: This is not a military action that we are undertaking to defend ourselves from attack or to protect a core interest. The congressional power to declare war, if it is not to be a dead letter, has to apply here. And it seems to me exceedingly unlikely that Congress would vote to commit us in Syria, because the public manifestly opposes it.
Obama, Syria and Iraq: Any End But Victory: Making It Up As He Goes Along. By Dan McLaughlin
Excerpt: Nor is it in line with what Obama, Biden and Kerry used to claim to believe. Once upon a time, Obama’s expressed willingness to meet with leaders like Assad made him popular in SyriaThen-Senator Obama argued in the 2008 campaign that “[t]he President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation” (Senator Biden agreed); now, as in Libya, Obama has no interest in asking for Congressional approval.

Russia sends warships to Mediterranean as Syria tension rises
This deployment may not mean anything, but Obama is in way over his narcissistic head in the Middle East, and the arrogant fool is liable to start a real war. If the U.S bombs Syria, they have already said they will attack Israel. Iran is likely to join in, and Israel will bite back. If that happens, we are obliged to help defend Israel, and Russia is allied with both Syria and Iran. Of course, we have a military genius, in the person of Chuck Hagel, running the Department of Defense, and horse-faced John Kerry as Secretary of State, so everything will probably turn out all right. Sleep tight, America. – LLW

BREAKING: White House warns Russia to remove ships from Mediterranean, or be called racists.

Excerpt: The outspoken anti-war activist said any such action would plunge the United States into another war in theMiddle East and embolden Islamist militants fighting Bashar Assad's regime. “So what, we're about to become Al Qaeda's air force now?” Kucinich said. “This is a very, very serious matter that has broad implications internationally. And to try to minimize it by saying we're just going to have a 'targeted strike' — that's an act of war. (Obama the uniter—he’s put me and Kucinich on the same side! ~Bob.)

Ethnic Cleansing Begins In Syria
Excerpt: As far as I can discern the sum total of the reasoning for any attack on Syrian government forces and facilities is the use of chemical weapons. It can’t be an objection to the slaughter of civilians as our new BFFs in Syria have an uninterrupted record of massacre and atrocity. Now they have begun a campaign of what seems to be ethnic cleansing in Syrian Kurdistan:

Good Column: Obama's careless remarks may lead the U.S. to war. By George Will
Excerpt: Barack Obama's foreign policy dream -- cordial relations with a Middle East tranquilized by "smart diplomacy" -- is in a death grapple with reality. His rhetorical writhings illustrate the perils of loquacity. He has a glutton's rather than a gourmet's appetite for his own rhetorical cuisine, and has talked America to the precipice of a fourth military intervention in the crescent that extends from Libya to Afghanistan.

Why Is The US Risking War In the Middle East To Save Muslims But Not Christians? http://politicaloutcast.com/2013/08/us-risking-war-middle-east-save-muslims-christians/#CUS0GEvxLzOBgvJH.99
Excerpt: The news out of Syria seems to indicate that the Syrian government used chemical weapons on their own people. That has Obama and US officials outraged. They are preparing to take military action against the Syrian government of Bashar al-Assad. Russia has warned us not to use military force against the Assad regime and Iran has threatened all-out war if we do. (A damn good question. –Del)

The Israeli Spring. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: The Arab Spring has turned Israel's once-predictable adversaries into the chaotic state of a Sudan or Somalia. The old understandings betweenJerusalem and the Assad and Mubarak kleptocracies seem in limbo. Yet these tragic Arab revolutions swirling around Israel are paradoxically aiding it, both strategically and politically -- well beyond the erosion of conventional Arab military strength.

Britain's UKIP rejects joining Geert Wilders' plans for right-wing alliance. By Ewan Palmer
Excerpt: According to Euroactiv, Wilders had talked to the Belgian Vlaams Belang, the French National Front (FN), the Swedish Democrats, the Italian Northern League and the newly formed German Alternative. Wilders told Dutch public broadcaster NOS that he planned to form the coalition to bring together a party who are "against the European Union and against mass immigration". Wilders said he had not asked extremist and racist parties to join his movement, and cited Hungary's Jobbik and the British National Party (BNP) as beyond the pale.

Allen West: How MLK's Dream Got Derailed
Excerpt: When it comes to life, over the past two score years there have been some 13 million black babies aborted. The black community would be 36 percent greater save for this tragedy, this genocide. How many black babies will never experience King's dream, the American dream?

Confessed Child Rapist Gets 30 Days In Jail. By Jazz Shaw
Excerpt: How does this even happen in America?: "A Yellowstone County district judge Monday ordered a former Senior High teacher convicted of raping a 14-year-old female student who later committed suicide to spend 30 days in jail. Judge G. Todd Baugh sentenced Stacey Dean Rambold to 15 years in prison, with all but 31 days suspended, for sexual intercourse without consent."

Bishops say belief that influx of Latinos would restore American morality 'a delusion' By Dr. Susan Berry
Excerpt: Chaput said that U.S. Latinos are leaving the Roman Catholic Church “at a sobering rate.” Though about 70 percent of foreign-born Hispanics are Catholic, only 40 percent of third-generation Hispanics continue in the faith. Similarly, he reported that the abortion rate among Latinas is higher than the national average, and that Hispanic support for same-sex “marriage” increased from 31 percent in 2006 to 52 percent in 2012.

NYPD (secretly) designates mosques as terrorism organizations. By Adam Goldman and Matt Apuzzo
Excerpt: Designating an entire mosque as a terrorism enterprise means that anyone who attends prayer services there is a potential subject of an investigation and fair game for surveillance. Since the 9/11 attacks, the NYPD has opened at least a dozen "terrorism enterprise investigations" into mosques, according to interviews and confidential police documents. The TEI, as it is known, is a police tool intended to help investigate terrorist cells and the like.

Excerpt: Candidates should understand that the oft-repeated claim that nearly all scientists demand that something dramatic be done to stop global warming is not true. In fact, a large and growing number of distinguished scientists and engineers do not agree that drastic actions on global warming are needed.

Global Warming is 'no longer a planetary emergency' By Christopher Monckton
Excerpt: It’s official. The scare is over. The World Federation of Scientists, at its annual seminars on planetary emergencies, has been advised by its own climate monitoring panel that global warming is no longer a planetary emergency.

Parkinson claims he was fired from his position as an FBI special agent in 2010 because he was attempting to expose the illegal sexual escapades of fellow agents Steven Broce and Andrew Marshall.

Hagel’s Navy. By Seth Cropsey
Excerpt: The SCMR raised the prospect that we will do to ourselves what our opponents in hot and cold wars have persistently failed at. Eliminating over 17 percent of the Marine Corps and 27 percent of the Navy’s carriers along with the surface and submarine combatants that accompany them would be a self-inflicted wound from which recovery would be difficult for the Marines and extremely difficult for the Navy.

The New Yorker Admits Fox News is more Balanced than MSNBC. By Heather Ginsberg
Excerpt: According to The New Yorker’s Kelefa Sanneh, who for 8 years was a critic at theNew York Times, profiled MSNBC and found that “Conservatives are far less visible on MSNBC than liberals are on Fox News”. And not only is MSNBC less likely to have Conservatives on their shows, but when they do, they tend to be Republicans who talk trash right-wingers.

Outrage Over Accused Fort Hood Shooter's $300K Pay Spurs Legislation
Excerpt: For the nearly four years since Army Maj. Nidal Hasan allegedly gunned down more than a dozen American servicemen, U.S. taxpayers have continued to pay his salary -- to the tune of around $300,000 so far. But new legislation, called the "Stop Pay for Violent Offenders Act" and introduced Monday in the House of Representatives, would authorize the military to suspend pay for Hasan and other members of the military for any capital or sex-related offense… (The VA can save a lot by denying to cover costs that ethically should be covered….Now that Hasan has been found guilty, anyone documenting where all the $$ paid to this criminal have gone? Perhaps the survivors and those who lost family members should sue him in common court to assess punitive damages to gain funds to pay their medical bills he incurred. –Barb)

Ben Carson: MLK Would Be Alarmed by Current State of Black America
Excerpt: Perhaps the biggest disappointment for King would be the wholesale adoption of a victim mentality that makes people feel that they are entitled to being cared for by others rather than working tirelessly to create wealth and opportunities for their progeny…. Finally, we should all remember the aspect of his dream in which he desired that people should be judged by their character and not by the color of their skin. In part, this means no one should assume that a black person would adhere to certain political orthodoxy any more so than a white person would. (Years ago, I was on a flight with a gentleman from Canada who had come down to see about expanding his company into the US. He told me had had decided to tell his superiors to keep their money and factory in Canada…that the US had a “problem” with its laborers, that the blacks he had encountered felt they were “owed something” and all “had a chip on their shoulders” rather than being nonracist and egalitarian. You know the type; they park in the handicapped spaces without permits and along the fire lanes at stores, because cracker laws don’t apply to them. –Barb)

Excerpt: Two weeks ago Obama's Black Attorney General Eric Holder said he's not happy that 50% of federal prisoners are Black. Accordingly, Holder plans to just let em out before their sentences are up. And he's directed federal district attorneys across the nation to go easy on Black thugs; he advises them to work with the network of liberal judges and ask for shorter sentences for those who make their living selling or using drugs, or robbery and so on.

Al Jazeera Comes to America: A foreign dictator’s media operation, right in your living room.
Excerpt: Perhaps start with the fact that Al Jazeera America, like its well-established Arabic-language sister station, Al Jazeera, is owned, lavishly funded, and operated by “the royal family of Qatar,” the politest way of describing the petroleum-rich emirate’s dynastic dictators — who also happen to be funders of Hamas, a U.S. government-designated terrorist group, and the Muslim Brotherhood. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani had been the tiny nation’s ruling emir for only a year when he founded Al Jazeera in 1996. (With such presentations as “Che Guevara as a ‘romantic, doomed hero’” and shows about “Sharia and Life,” pro-Muslim Brotherhood, now on your TV set, with approval of your government. –Barb. I expect them to be pretty fair and unbalanced at first, to draw in viewers. But I think most of their audience will be cannibalized from MSNBC. ~Bob.)

Miley Cyrus is the new Barack Obama
Excerpt: Neither Miley or Obama caused the decline in American culture, but they both seem comfortable in accelerating it. Rather than be role models, they seem more comfortable reveling in their celebrity status. …. For Obama, it is associating with everybody from gangster rappers Jay-Z and the “Pimp with the limp” rather than spread a positive message. Being “cool” takes precedence over using a powerful microphone to better the world.

Still more from Obama's insane spending department

Excerpt: In addition to the $313 million in mortgages for the West Bank, the US Government is also guaranteeing $110 million in loans to small and medium businesses in the West Bank. While the government should not be guaranteeing loans for any business, if it is that business should be in America owned by Americans, not in a mythical nation that hates America. …Not only does this area win the vote for the area most likely to be the epicenter of the next major Middle Eastwar, it is the home of massively corrupt government officials and terrorist organizations.

George Zimmerman Witness Can't Say Who Threw First Punch
Excerpt: Jeantel, a key prosecution witness in the racially charged trial, testified that she was talking on the phone with Martin when he told her a "creepy ass cracker" was following him. "Under oath, you created a lie and said you went to the hospital?" asked West. "Yes," responded Jeantel. She said she lied because she didn't want to see the body. (So Mrs. Zimmerman gets charged with perjury, but Rachel Jeantel, black, can lie under oath and no perjury charges are filed. Reportedly, jurors (and authorities?) “felt sorry” for this 19-year-old Miami high school senior, who is illiterate and could not read a transcript of her testimony or a letter she had purportedly written but then admitted someone had done it for her. –Barb)

Spoon in Underwear Saving Girls From Forced Marriage; Being taken abroad for a forced marriage is now so common in the UK that girls are being told to alert airport security to save themselves.
Excerpt: The U.K.-based charity Karma Nirvana is urging victims of forced marriage to put a spoon in their underwear before they go to the airport to be flown off to their family’s homelands to meet their new spouses. The spoon will cause metal detectors at the airport to beep; victims will be taken away from their parents to be searched, giving them one last chance to alert airport authorities that they are being forced into marriage.

Kim Jong-un's ex-lover 'executed by firing squad'
Excerpt: The reports in South Korea's Chosun Ilbo newspaper indicate that Hyon, a singer with the Unhasu Orchestra, was among those arrested on August 17 for violating domestic laws on pornography. All 12 were machine-gunned three days later, with other members of North Korea's most famous pop groups and their immediate families forced to watch. The onlookers were then sent to prison camps, victims of the regime's assumption of guilt by association, the reports stated. (If he had gassed them, would our Dear Leader attack? –TH. Boy, talk about being dumped hard! ~Bob.)

Judge in rape case criticized for light sentence, remarks about victim: Montana jurist gives a former teacher 30 days in jail for the rape of a 14-year-old student, and then calls the victim 'older than her chronological age.'
Excerpt: Outrage is particularly sharp in Billings, where the crime took place, because the girl committed suicide in 2010, just shy of her 17th birthday, as the criminal case was pending.

Excerpt: Swedish prosecutors have decided to charge a 22-year-old man for honking his horn outside the Fittja mosque in Stockholm, citing his intention to disturb the Muslim congregation.

Black-on-White Violence: The Forgotten Victims. By Jack Kerwick
Excerpt: As the nation remembers Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, it should also note that while the self-appointed guardians of King’s legacy, the “anti-racists,” obsess over Paula Deen and liken Trayvon Martin to Emmet Till, they say nothingabout interracial violence when it involves black perpetrators andwhite victims. Below is a select list of interracial atrocities committed by blacks against whites. These forgotten victims are men and women, young and old. (If the left is going to play the race card on every instance of white on black violence, then it must be trumped by the twice as frequent black on white violence. ~Bob.)

Falsely crying racism for partisan gain is a good way to convince people that racism isn't a real thing any more.

Al Gore’s Global Warming Desperation. By Tom Blumer

Japan's nuclear regulator on Wednesday upgraded the rating of a leak of radiation-contaminated water from a tank at its tsunami-wrecked nuclear plant to a "serious incident" on an international scale, and it castigated the plant operator for failing to catch the problem earlier.

‘White Bitch’ Brutally Beaten in Pittsburgh, Paging Eric Holder: The attorney general, a modern segregationist.
Excerpt: We get it, Eric. You can tell your friends at the Washington Post and New York Times that your Justice Department doesn’t discriminate because of the race of the victim, but we know the truth. We know that you treat some Americans as second-class citizens. And for that, you are more like one of the old segregationists than the crusader for justice you think you are.

Obamacare
The wife of a guy I work with finally has a job in her field with an insurance company. She is reviewing Obamacare to create a data package for the companies they serve, so they can explain changes to employees and make decisions for their programs. So her job is clearly created by Obama, and it's also part time. Oh...and did I mention that the job is temporary?—GS

Excerpt: The Washington Post has obtained a "top secret" budget document that for the first time details spending by the U.S. intelligence community. The document, provided by former intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, shows that U.S. spy agencies have built an intelligence-gathering colossus since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, but remains unable to provide critical information to the president on a range of national security threats.

Letter to US Senators from a dying senior citizen
This has gone viral. Worth reading. ~Bob. Excerpt: I have calculated that all the money I have paid in income taxes my entire life cannot even keep the Senate barbershop open for one year! Only Heaven and a few tight-lipped actuarial types know what the Senate dining room costs the taxpayers. So please, enjoy your haircuts and meals on us. Last year, the president spent an estimated 1.4 $billion on himself and his family. The vice president spends $millions on hotels. They have had 8 vacations so far this year! And our House of Representatives and Senate have become America 's answer to the Saudi royal family. You have become the "perfumed princes and princesses" of our country.

If You Send Your Kid to Private School, You Are a Bad Person: A manifesto. By Allison Benedikt
On slate, calling Obama a bad person? ~Bob.

Death (certificates) took holiday in wake of bankruptcy filing
http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130829/METRO01/308290046#ixzz2dNdZZ8ua
Excerpt: The city did stop issuing certified copies of birth and death certificates on July 23, days after the July 18 bankruptcy filing. That day, a nervous paper vendor demanded cash — and the city wanted to do business as usual, on credit. FYI: In bankrupt and frequently bizarre Detroit, dying is easy. It’s proving you are dead that’s hard.

1. Can someone please tell Obama that his "trickle down gov't" isn't working for us blacks!? We're getting the "down," but not the trickle.2. Everybody that's my color, isn't my kind.

1. My grandma lived in the Jim Crow South in the depression. Worked two different jobs for White people and never asked for handouts. 2. FYI—I worked a crappy min wage job in HS and guess what I learned? The wages SUCK and you can’t live off of it. I didn’t strike—I left.

Excerpt: For these diseases the additional toll is estimated at 1 million preventable deaths a year, or around 2,700 per day, mostly among children younger than 5.

Excerpt: Swimp blamed the woes of many black Americans on the community having “morally surrendered.”… He pointed to the breakdown of the black family and prevalent abortion of black babies as examples of moral surrender.
