"Beto O'Rourke, the Dangerous Fake." By Donna Garner

"Beto O'Rourke, the Dangerous Fake." By Donna Garner
Excerpt: I am a Texan, and we Texans know a true left-leaning Democrat when we see one. Please believe me when I say, "Beto O'Rourke is one!" Beto is not "born to do this" as he stated in the recent edition of Vanity Fair where he told about his decision in glitzy and glowing terms to run for the President of the United States. What is Beto O'Rourke really? He is a huge but dangerous fake. Robert Francis O’Rourke (a.k.a., Beto) has no Hispanic blood in him and is a fourth-generation Irish-American. When young, the Spanish nickname Beto was given to him to differentiate him from another family member. Even though he chose to go by Robert or Bob in college, his politically savvy father told him to change his name back to Beto to gain political stature when he returned home to largely Hispanic El Paso. [Even though Beto's father died in 2001, his advice lived on when Beto decided to use his vast campaign funding from people outside Texas to pay to have his one word "Beto" blood-red campaign signs planted all over Texas six months before the 2018 mid-term elections to establish name recognition, particularly with Texas Hispanic voters.] Of course to set the scene for Beto to run for the Presidency on the Democrat ticket, the leftist media has to explain away the fact that he went to an elite boys’ boarding school and to Columbia University in NYC – both very expensive ventures. The media must try to figure out a way to make Beto look as if he is a common man who relates to the downtrodden -- not someone who comes from "White privilege." The facts indicate that he actually came from a wealthy family with lots of political pull and with possible ties to the El Paso/Mexico cartels. [No wonder Beto "loves" free trade with Mexico!] Because Beto exhibited early signs of rebellion against societal norms, had several altercations with the police, misbehaved frequently, lacked self-control, and was involved in alcohol/drug abuse, his step-grandfather (ex-military) wanted to “rescue Beto from himself” by sending him to the elite boys’ boarding school for the last two years of high school. He graduated from Virginia's Woodberry Forest School in 1991. Beto graduated from Columbia University in 1995, and he was arrested soon after that for committing a burglary at the University of Texas El Paso with two other people.

Random Thoughts for April

Random Thoughts for April 2019
By Robert A. Hall
Feel free to post or forward.

Gun Free Zones are mass shooter magnets.

"If you want a vision of the future, imagine a Birkenstock stamping on a human face... forever." –Tom Kratman, LtCol, USA (ret). (And excellent author of military science fiction.)

The people who should be angriest with Jussie Smollet are gays and blacks. His fake hate crime will make it that much harder to be believed about true hate crimes. You’d think he was a secret agent for the Klan.

Every member of Congress should be required to watch a partial-birth abortion. And to smother the baby if it survives the abortion.

Trump was mad at Mueller and now the Democrats are mad at Mueller. Makes me think the Marine must have done something right.

Only the strong can be kind. Which is why there is so much unkindness in the world.

I’m not saying I’m old, but dirt calls me “Sir!”

I am always surprised when people take seriously satire that I publish on my blog, even though I label it satire. Maybe it should be, “placebo news.”

Recipes that call for ¼ teaspoon of salt taste fine without it.

The difference between political tribes in America and political tribes in, say, Somalia is that American aren’t killing each other over politics. Yet. Mostly. We have always had some political violence: an anarchist assassinated McKinley, a communist assassinated JFK, a Palestinian assassinated RFK, and James Hodgkinson, a left-wing activist, did his best to assassinate Republican members of Congress.

It seems a majority of people think that if they want something to be true badly enough, that makes it true.

Whoever wins the presidency in 2020, I promise you that at the next SOTU speech, the president’s party will cheer wildly while the other party will, at best, sit silently.

The news has become entertainment and, as with all entertainment, is more entertaining if you “enhance” the facts. Or just make them up as Hollywood does with history.

We are urged to pray for our enemies and I do. I pray they will get what they deserve. Then if I’m wrong about them, God will deal with them justly.

Do you know if they block Internet porn sites where I work? Asking for a friend.

White Supremacism is odious. Every bit as odious as Black, Hispanic or Muslim Supremacism. Or any other that puts tribe and group over the individual.

“The news is not always going to be the version of events that you wished it was. If you can’t handle that, you don’t belong in journalism.”  --Jonah Goldberg

Under capitalism, a few get very rich building companies that supply services and products people want, like Microsoft and Facebook. Under socialism, a few government oligarchs get very rich off the work of the people, who must do whatever the state decides in good for the people, who live in poverty. Free markets depend on the individual decisions of free people. Every other system depends on oppression and coercion, and leads to grinding poverty for all but a few.

I think the military classifies as secret so many thousands of documents so the spies will be confused about what’s really valuable.

Dane County, WI government is a sheltered workshop for progressives.

They say you can’t judge a book by its cover. But if a guy looks like a weasel…

Some people are punching bags for their own stupidity.

Watching today’s media is like reading a novel. It requires the “Willing suspension of disbelief.”

Trump and Bernie have the same problem in 2020. No Hillary to run against.

I’m so old, I remember when mail was delivered twice a day to my grandmother’s house in the 1950. When both the doctor and the Fuller Brush man came to the house. When the phone was black and attached to the wall.

Facebook meme: “Be careful what you will tolerate. You are teaching people how to treat you.”

If you worked hard all your life and were successful, thus have a bit of wealth, you will find there are people who think they are entitled to what you earned. They may be family, friends, strangers, or politicians, but they will be attempting to put their hands into your pocket.

I’m so old, I remember when Democrats like Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and the Clintons were opposed to illegal immigration. Okay, it wasn’t really that long ago.

Why pay money to have your DNA tested and family tree traced; just go into politics as a conservative and your opponents and the media will trace you back to the tree in Africa your ancestors lived in millennia ago and discover things you and your family have said and done that neither you nor they have even the faintest memory of.” –Del

My weight and my social life both have the same problem. I can’t keep my mouth shut.

Government websites are complex beyond usability because the bureaucrats that order them aren’t spending their own money. They can tell the web designers, “Give us everything you think we should have,” with no consequences to themselves.

If Marine Corps Boot Camp doesn’t change you, you’re not worth changing.

You should rid your life of toxic people. But sometimes you can’t because of family, propinquity or employment. They you just manage it as best you can, being often frustrated and angry. Sigh.

There is no such ting as “public radio” or “public TV.” They are government radio and government TV. And like the private outlets, their agenda is designed to please the folks who deliver the dollars.

It’s a real laugh how shocked, shocked I say, the Hollywood enablers are to discover Michael Jackson was a pedophile. He was black, a star and thought the right way, so they turned blind eyes to what we normal people knew for years.

I just read that a one-bedroom in San Francisco now rents for an average of $3,690 a month. You see how rent control and green spaces to limit new construction of housing helps the poor?

Since the Green New Deal calls for every building in America to be rebuilt, rich progressives like Al Gore, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Tom Steyer, the Clintons, and others could set a great example by starting with their mansions and businesses.

If a boat springs a leak, they say it’s taking on water. If a spaceship springs a leak, will they say it’s taking on vacuum?

If you are a prostitute, what do you do on “Take your daughter to work” day?

There is a difference between being a nice person, a competent person, an experienced person, an intelligent person, and so on. And an attractive person. Some cover several categories. But being attractive without anything else is a recipe for failure. Remember when hiring.

Writing notes to yourself doesn’t work when you can’t read them the next day. Sigh.

Our garage door started working only occasionally. Real PITA on cold days. We discovered it was because we put LED bulbs in the opener lights. You have been warned.

Young people thinking about getting tattoos should look at old people with tattoos.

In the next war, every member of Congress who isn’t a combat veteran should be embedded with a combat unit for a month. And everyone should have to ride along with the police on a night shift in a bad neighborhood every three months.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a skinhead or KKK thug or an Antifa or BLM thug. You are still a thug.

In 30 years, they’ll be having Christian hunts in progressive areas, like the rat hunts of the middle ages.

For war, wealth, women, or weather, most people prepare for the expected. Alas, the unexpected happens with catastrophic regularity.

If racism did not exist, the Democrats would have to establish a group like BLM to create it. Otherwise, blacks might see themselves as the competent and strong people they are, rather than as victims needing the Democrats to protect, and infantilize them.

I wish the media would give half the coverage to churches shot up by Muslims as they giver to a mosque shot up by an asshole who described his views as “When I was young I was a communist, then an anarchist and finally a libertarian before coming to be an eco-fascist.”

It doesn’t matter if you are on the left or the right. If you see any politician as a saint, you are dangerously na├»ve.

Imagine if FDR, JFK or Harry Truman were running for president today. The savaging they would get from progressives would be beyond their ability to believe.

If racism didn’t exist, the progressive would have to develop a group like BLM to create it. Otherwise, people of color might start to see themselves as competent, fully developed humans, rather than as victims dependent of the Democrats for substance and crumbs.

In general, the differences between the old National Socialists and today’s “Democratic Socialists” are too small to matter. Both believe in all-powerful government able to coerce individuals to do what they think are best for everybody. Both wish to outlaw any criticism of them. Both believe that anyone who doesn’t support the party is sub-human. Both see Christianity as an obstacle to their power which must be destroyed. Both think only the government and the elites should have guns. Both demonize the “other” as enemies of the state. And both hold large numbers of people enthralled. (For the National Socialists, this should read in the past tense. Mostly. Thanks to young men with guns.)

If you “kill time,” you are killing your life. If you spend time wisely, you are expanding the richness of your life.

If you have good comm, don’t screw around with the radio.

Scratch a progressive. If you don’t find a Star of Da\vid, you are likely to find an anti-Semite.

It seems that the modern definition of "Diversity" is people of several races, religions, and sexual orientations who all agree with the liberal point of view. There is no room for diversity of opinion. –Todd

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded--here and there, now and then--are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty. This is known as “bad luck.” --Robert A. Heinlein

If government is your god, as it is for many progressives, that people who commit blasphemy by failing to worship your god as you think fitting must be punished however you can. Similar to the Muslims killing anyone who has committed blasphemy in their eyes.

You know the car signs that say, “Baby on Board”? I want one that says “Baby on Roof.” Then I could get a cheap car seat and a doll and strap it to the roof, just for laughs.

A night at the range

The Dane County Republican Women had a Night-at-the Range Thursday night (3-28-2019), so Bonnie and I went. Given that we hadn’t been at the range in months, and I have a tremor from the meds I’m on, I was pleased with how I shot at age 73 (on 4/15/2019). Bonnie also shot very well.
The top target is one of mine. I think there were three rounds in the hole next to the X as I was shooting a 10-round magazine. I was shooting a S&W, 5906 Auto (9 mm) The bottom target is one of Bonnie’s She was shooting a Sig Sauer Mosquito 22LR her dad gave her. WE shot at 15 feet.

Black racism

Excerpt: “Black press only!” This was the warning emblazoned on the glass doors of a Savannah church, where an event associated with a Georgia mayoral race took place Wednesday. Also Scotch-taped to the doors of the Historic Bolton Street Missionary Baptist Church: “No audio or video recording!” And “no media (TV, radio, etc…).” White political reporters were absolutely S.O.L. As noted by the AP, organizers convening to powwow about an upcoming mayoral race forbid anyone who isn’t black from entering the premises. As reported by the Savannah Morning News, white reporters were barred entry to God’s house while two black reporters were allowed in. TV cameras and recording devices were also absolutely forbidden. (Black racism is as ugly as white racism. ~Bob)

You’re A Sucker For Not Believing That The System Is Rigged
EXCERPT:The American dream has morphed into the American grift. And we normal people are the marks. Let’s stop pretending. Let’s stop accepting the ruling class’s lies. And let’s stop lying to ourselves. America has changed. There used to be one standard, one set of laws, one set of rules. Now, there are two.

Are “super-woke” leftists eating their own again? Survey says… maybe.

Are “super-woke” leftists eating their own again? Survey says… maybe.
Excerpt: In today’s Democratic Party, it’s virtually impossible to meet the high standards of the super-woke. And when someone fails, they must be subjected to ritual humiliation amounting to being eaten alive by their own “allies” in the name of keeping standards high, and virtue-signaling at A+ levels. Such is the ridiculous situation in which gay Democrat and liberal Mayor of South Bend, Indiana, Pete Buttigieg finds himself this week. The mayor has managed to piss off his super-woke base by stating that he likes Chick-fil-A. This is not a joke.

Identity Politics

The Democrats and Identity Politics in 2020
Excerpt: Over at Slate, Christina Cauterucci writes a column with the headline, “Is Pete Buttigieg Just Another White Male Candidate, or Does His Gayness Count as Diversity? ... But if you embrace identity politics, you can draw a quick conclusion about a candidate just by looking at him or learning the name of his spouse. You can dismiss him as “a run-of-the-mill white-male candidate,” or you can be cheered by his status as a gay man, even if you lament Buttigieg’s “assimilationist perspective” and that he’s “less exciting as the supposed gay trailblazer some on the left desperately want him to be,” as the Slate piece does. Who cares about what Buttigeig actually thinks about policy — like his belief that Mike Bloomberg’s large-soda-ban “came from this pragmatist, business-oriented mayor who was following the facts and realized there is a pretty high social cost to obesity” — when you can instantly declare he’s either a trailblazer or “not enough of a trailblazer”?

Candlestick: Night FAC over Laos by James Patrick Hyland

Book Recommendation

Candlestick: Night FAC over Laos by James Patrick Hyland
This is a terrific book that should be read by Vietnam Vets, military history buffs, anyone interested in airplanes and flying under stress, and anyone who enjoys stories of courage and adventure. It is one of the best military memoirs I have ever read. Having survived a lung transplant in 2013, in July of 2017 the VA Hospital hired me 20 hours a week to interview veterans and write their life stories for their care team and their families to read. To date, I’ve written 197 stories. This has developed my already acute BS detector to epic proportions. Hyland’s book has the ring of pure truth, warts and all. For a year he flew C-123s over the Ho Chi Minh Trail, calling in airstrikes on North Vietnamese convoys taking NVA troops and weapons to the Republic of Vietnam to kill American troops. The 165 missions he flew were highly dangerous. They repeated faced the kind of anti-aircraft fire the AAF saw over Germany in WWII. He and his nine-man crew would be on station for up to four hours, getting shot at most of the time. As a Marine who served in Vietnam a couple of years before he was there, I can tell you there are children and grandchildren of veterans alive today who owe their lives to Pat Hyland. I flew on C-123s a couple of times in and out of Khe Sanh in 1967 (when it was pretty quiet). I had no idea they were used as FACs. FACs around us were mostly O-1 Bird Dogs with only a pilot. Regardless, all FACs were heroes, saving countless lives. Hyland and his crew, and the other FACs who flew with him, deserve a salute, our thanks, and our gratitude. You won’t go wrong with this book.

Benghazi witness confirms order to "Stand Down" was given
This is long, 51 minutes. You can skip the first couple of minutes of the host going on about the program, etc. Then comes the really interesting testimony by a former military who was in a position to watch everything that went on that night. We knew for a long time that there were some resources available that might have been able to help, that weren't used, but it seems there were more than we heard about and some of them were close. But first, lack of response from the powers back in the USA held things up, and then finally there were orders to NOT do anything. Pretty bad news, and I do think there should be a real investigation of this mess. --Del My take has always been that Obama and Hillary were afraid that a rescue attempt would result in a firefight killing civilian Muslims, which would lead to riots in the Muslim world and hurt Obama's reelection. They sacrificed American lives to preserve the political situation. ~Bob

Murder Jewish Kids

Islamic Hate
Excerpt: The article is about the murder seven years ago of several Jewish kids at a school in France. The killer was a man named Mohammed Merah, who very deliberately held a gun to the head of a little blonde girl, just 7 years old. When he pulled the trigger, it didn't fire, so he adjusted quickly, took out his second pistol, and this time things worked better, although he did shoot her twice more just to make sure. He'd already killed the rabbi and his two little boys, ages 6 and 3. Yes, he murdered a three year old, very happily and proudly. But here's the real horror. Merah is considered a hero by many in the Islamic community, people celebrate him, try to name kids after him, hold him up as an example of a true Muslim man. Anti-Semitic violence in France has been increasing ever since, and now more and more French Jews are leaving reluctantly for Israel because they rightly fear for their lives. Anti-Semitism is a foundational part of Islam, Mohammed himself personally slaughtered Jewish men and took their wives for concubines. It's enshrined in the Hadith and in the teachings of the majority of Islamic scholars and imams. It infects the majority of Muslims in varying degrees, and we have seen ample evidence of that here in the USA, including most recently from a Muslim woman member of Congress. People want to turn away and not see this for what it is. And that's to their shame. -Del

ISIS Commander Arrested in Hungary Held Refugee Passport Enabling Unrestricted Air Travel

Black Privilege

Robert Bianchi: Stunned by decision to let Jussie Smollett walk? So is this former prosecutor
Excerpt: We all know why this happened: Politics. District attorneys in Illinois are elected (National Review article noted Soros contributed $408,000 to Kim Fixx's campaign. --Barb), rather than appointed to office. In New Jersey, our system is appointment by the governor. This is done for the very reason of taking politics out of prosecution. When I was appointed a prosecutor, I didn’t have to worry about angering my political allies. Make no mistake about it, politics intermingled with prosecution is a toxic cocktail to the justice system. It poisons it! Further, we are learning people in high places reached out the DA, who was receptive to their calls. She should have politely told them this is a law enforcement matter and refused to discuss the case, indicating that the case will be determined on facts and law, not political pressure or favors. ... If I represented the mayor or police, I would advise them to file a civil suit against Smollett. I would be seeking money damages as the taxpayer dollars funded this farce, and police resources wasted pursuing this bogus claim, were immense. Then, the civil discovery process would expose the facts of this case that have amazingly been “sealed” by the court – something I have never seen before. But, they can’t fool us. We know it is bad, a coverup, a miscarriage of justice. Justice itself was wounded yesterday. Shame on the prosecutors for lessening the reputation of prosecutors all over the nation who are doing their best to serve their citizens, rather than themselves personally.

Citizens Push Back!

California School District Forced To Dump CAIR’s Islamic Indoctrination Program. San Diego district settles federal lawsuit brought by Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund.
This is great news, and long overdue. Hopefully it is the beginning of a lot of pushback. Enough of pushing Islam on kids, we can't push Christianity or Buddhism or Judaism or anything else, and that's perfectly correct in our society, but it has to apply to every religion exactly the same way. --Del

Excerpt: I’m sure Wile E. Coyote represents the reaction of Democrats and Never-Trump Republicans everywhere when they received word of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report. What great fun watching CNN and the rest of the hate-Trump media stammer and try to explain their two years of predicting the arrest of the president, his family, his campaign associates, and family pets for colluding with the Russians and obstructing justice. While the end of Mueller’s witch hunt is good news, I have a few questions about its failure to take to task the fabricators and exploiters of the Russian collusion hoax. Those questions are set forth below in a piece I just submitted to my friends at The American Spectator. So take a look and let me know what you think.

America’s 233-Year-Old Shock at Jihad

America’s 233-Year-Old Shock at Jihad
Excerpt: Exactly 233 years ago this week, two of America’s founding fathers documented their first exposure to Islamic jihad in a letter to Congress; like many Americans today, they too were shocked at what they learned. Context: in 1785, Muslim pirates from North Africa, or “Barbary,” had captured two American ships, the Maria and Dauphin, and enslaved their crews. In an effort to ransom the enslaved Americans and establish peaceful relations, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams -- then ambassadors to France and England respectively -- met with Tripoli’s ambassador to Britain, Abdul Rahman Adja. Following this diplomatic exchange, they laid out the source of the Barbary States’ hitherto inexplicable animosity to American vessels in a letter to Congress dated March 28, 1786: We took the liberty to make some inquiries concerning the grounds of their [Barbary’s] pretentions to make war upon nations who had done them no injury, and observed that we considered all mankind as our friends who had done us no wrong, nor had given us any provocation. The ambassador answered us that it was founded on the laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Koran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners, and that every Musselman who should be slain in battle was sure to go to Paradise. (One interesting point of this history is that the creation of the US Navy to fight the pirates then left the fledgling USA with a naval force to contest the Brits in the war of 1812. --Del)

Antifa activist facing assault charges was tied to Democratic policymakers
Excerpt: What a difference a year made for Joseph Alcoff. On Monday, the 37-year-old has a court date in connection with charges he’s facing in Philadelphia that include aggravated assault and ethnic intimidation for allegedly being part of an Antifa mob in November that attacked two Marines, Alejandro Godinez and Luis Torres, both Hispanic. Alcoff and two others charged in the attack have pleaded not guilty. But while Democratic officials are distancing themselves from Alcoff now, until recently he was a well-connected, aspiring political player in Washington who may have even had a hand in key policy proposals. His endorsement apparently mattered when several congressional Democrats in February 2018 issued press releases with his quote backing their bill on regulating payday lenders. ("When Fascism comes to America, it will be called anti-Fascism!" -Huey Long)

Today’s Schools Should Emulate The Education That Produced Abraham Lincoln:

Would our schools have prepared Abraham Lincoln to give us the Gettysburg Address or Second Inaugural? Do they aspire to?

"Lincoln is endlessly fascinating. His family followed the frontier, and his accomplishments came in spite of the limited time he spent in a schoolhouse, among them some of the finest examples of political rhetoric in the English language.

"So how did he do it, and what can we learn from his example? The present mantra in secondary education is “college and career readiness.” Lincoln invites an uncomfortable question: Had Lincoln attended a school on the vanguard of the college and career readiness movement, would it have prepared him for future greatness? Would Lincoln have become Lincoln?

Lincoln’s selection of books is remarkable: Instead of “Captain Underpants” or “Twilight,” he read Aesop, Shakespeare, Plutarch, William Blackstone, and the Bible. Instead of test prep guides, he carefully studied schoolhouse textbooks in arithmetic and geometry. Instead of drafting a business plan and preparing a PowerPoint presentation, he studied collections of notable speeches and kept a copybook of poetry and learned lengthy passages by heart.

Lincoln received exactly the education he needed if he was to sustain his resolve to seek justice as he shepherded the nation through the horrors of civil war.

The FBI and DOJ lied to the FISA court three separate times in order to illegally obtain warrants to spy on Trump associates. Who signed those fraudulent documents? Andrew McCabe, James Comey, former assistant attorney general Sally Yates and current assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein is currently disgraced and McCabe is under criminal investigation.

Did Trump Really Do All That? By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: With all due respect, I don’t think we “all” know that this started with Trump, however crass he can be. Rather, we know all too well the political landscape a decade before Trump. Do we recall the recent deranged talk of 2004-8 from the Democratic Party, the popular culture, and the media—or the relative passivity of the wounded Bush administration in response to such venom? Why, after all, did Alfred A. Knopf publish the novel Checkpoint, a boring and tired rant about fantasizing the assassination of then-President Bush? Who created the particular landscape that encouraged filmmaker Gabriel Range to offer up “Death of a President”that trafficked in the same fantasies of a Bush assassination? Why would the Guardian publish an op-ed by “satirist” Charles Brooker’s dreaming of the need for another John Wilkes Booth or Lee Harvey Oswald to repeat their needed work—a theme in part that actor Johnny Depp has recently channeled against Trump. (I love it when a brilliant person neatly dissects the huge pile of BS with facts. People now think Hanson is a Trump lover, but he most certainly is not. He's just a totally factual man of great intelligence, pointing out the realities in front of us. --Del)
