Old Jarhead's Political SitRep October 3, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep October 3, 2012
Robert A. Hall
I know I keep saying it, but with the election seven weeks away, a LOT of important links today. ~Bob.

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Obama SPEECH!! The Federal Government doesn’t like you because you’re black”
Excerpt: The racially charged and at times angry speech undermines Obama’s carefully-crafted image as a leader eager to build bridges between ethnic groups. For nearly 40 minutes, using an accent he almost never adopts in public, Obama describes a racist, zero-sum society, in which the white majority profits by exploiting black America. The mostly black audience shouts in agreement. The effect is closer to an Al Sharpton rally than a conventional campaign event. (Why am I not surprised at all to learn Obama is as racist as Sharpton? ~Bob)

Exclusive: In heated ’07 speech, Obama lavishes praise on Wright, says feds ‘don’t care’ about New Orleans [VIDEO]
http://dailycaller.com/2012/10/02/obama-speech-jeremiah-wright-new-orleans/3/
Excerpt: As the speech continues, Obama makes repeated and all-but-explicit appeals to racial solidarity, referring to “our” people and “our neighborhoods,” as distinct from the white majority. At one point, he suggests that black people were excluded from rebuilding contracts after the storm: “We should have had our young people trained to rebuild the homes down in the Gulf. We don’t need Halliburton doing it.

Free Medicare Bumper Sticker
The Democrats are giving away bumper stickers that read: Save Medicare. Vote Democrat. They kindly sent me one. I didn’t want to waste it, so I clipped off the “Save Medicare” part and stuck it next to my Romney sticker. ~Bob.

Dem bumper sticker: 'Kiss Medicare goodbye.' By Paul Bedard
Excerpt: Mitt Romney's selection of Rep. Paul Ryan hasn't just been a bonanza for Democratic talking heads who've assailed his budget as the death knell for government aid like Medicare. It's also turning into a fundraising boomlet.

Charities I support

Romney, in debate preview, says ‘We’re not seeing the real recovery’
Excerpt: “This economy is not in recovery. We’re not seeing the real recovery,” Romney told some 5,500 supporters at an aircraft museum. “The president’s policies have not worked. He doesn’t get that. He doesn’t understand that. We must get America growing again with a strong economy.”

Important: Wary Americans saving more, even as government encourages risk
Excerpt: Americans have poured record amounts of money into savings accounts even though interest rates are at historic lows, new federal data show, a sign that average people may be missing out on a booming stock market and recovering real estate sector. The total amount in those accounts climbed nearly 5 percent to $6.9 trillion in the spring, the highest level recorded since the Federal Reserve launched its regular reports on the flow of money in the economy in 1945. At the same time, other data show that Americans are fleeing the stock market and avoiding the purchase of new homes. (Frightened by the Obama Economy and Obama’s policies, and who can blame them? ~Bob.)

Which Federal Policies Help or Hurt Economic Growth?
Excerpt: Many policies pursued by the Obama administration, as well as some pursued by the preceding Bush administration, have widely been thought to be stimulative. They have led instead to prolonged economic weakness, as a careful reading of history would have suggested. To turn the situation around, Washington needs to stabilize the dollar, freeze and reduce its spending, cut tax rates, and let the markets set interest rates freely, says R. David Ranson, a senior fellow with the National Center for Policy Analysis and president and director of research at H.C. Wainwright & Co. Economics. So-called stimulus spending doesn't work:

Salafism and Arab Democratization. By Kamran Bokhari
Excerpt: The outbreak of the Arab Spring in 2011 brought significant attention to groups seeking to establish Islamic states -- known as Islamists -- in countries once ruled by secular autocrats. The bulk of this attention went to already established political groups such as the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, which caused consternation in the West when its Freedom and Justice Party won control of both Egypt's parliament and its presidency. Much less attention was paid to the Brotherhood's principal Islamist competitors, members of the ultraconservative Salafist movement, despite their second-place finish in Egypt's parliamentary elections. This changed in late September when certain Salafists played a key role in the unrest in reaction to an anti-Islamic video posted on the Internet.

Missing in Action: Growth. By Steve Conover
Excerpt: Neither party denies that our growing debt is rapidly taking us in the wrong direction, but neither party is giving the best remedy—economic growth enhancement—the top billing it deserves. In the economic policy debate, there are two elephants in the room: The size and growth of our national debt, and the size and growth of our national economy. They belong together; when we address one, we should address the other at the same time. Unfortunately, that hasn’t been happening.

Evan Bayh: ObamaCare's Tax Raid on Medical Devices. The industry that gave us stents, replacement joints and defibrillators will get a dose of bad fiscal medicine.
Excerpt: The Supreme Court decision in June upholding the Affordable Care Act leaves in place a tax on medical devices that threatens thousands of American jobs and our global competitiveness. It will also stifle critical medical innovation in the industry that gave us defibrillators, pacemakers, artificial joints, stents, chemotherapy delivery systems and almost every device we depend on to save lives. The 2.3% tax will be charged to manufacturers on each sale and takes effect in January. Many U.S. device companies, in response, have already announced layoffs, canceled plans for domestic expansion and slashed research-and-development budgets. (If you hit a pay wall, Google the title. Since Obama promised that no one making under $250k would pay a dime more in taxes, I guess they can’t get hip or knee replacements. ~Bob.)

Medical students lack knowledge of healthcare overhaul
The 2010 Affordable Care Act affects almost every aspect of the U.S. healthcare system, but many future doctors who will be operating under its policies admit they don't know that much about the law. In a survey of about 850 medical students in Minnesota, less than half said they understood the healthcare law's basic components, and more than 40 percent said they had no opinion on the law.

States bristle at Reid’s push to legalize online poker in lame-duck session. By Kevin Bogardus
Excerpt: A push by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to legalize online poker in Congress’s lame-duck session could run into a buzz-saw of opposition from state legislatures and governors. State officials are bristling at the possibility of being preempted by the federal government in their own efforts to legalize some forms of online gaming, and are particularly concerned about how Reid’s bill could affect their lotteries.

GOP seizes on Obama backpedaling over attack on US Consulate in Libya
By Julian Pecquet and Carlo Muñoz
Excerpt: Mitt Romney and Republicans in Congress on Monday seized on the administration’s backpedaling from its account of the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, which is fast becoming a deep political problem for President Obama.

Selling votes is common type of election fraud. By David A. Fahrenthold
Excerpt: The price of one bona fide, registered American vote varies from place to place. But it is rarely more than a tank of gas. Indeed, as a rising furor over voter fraud has prodded some states to mount extensive efforts against illegal voters, election-fraud cases more often involve citizens who sell their votes, usually remarkably cheaply. In West Virginia over the past decade, the cost was as low as $10. Last year in West Memphis, Ark., a statehouse candidate used $2 half-pints of vodka. (Guess who is buying most of them? Early and absentee voting or mail voting make it easy for the buyer to see he is getting the vote. But a large amount of votes are bought legally from unions, government employees, entitlement groups and special interests with your—and your grandkids’—tax dollars. And not just by Democrats, though they are the worst. ~Bob.)

Two Liberal Whoppers on Medicare
Excerpt: A debate that has been fought largely over the airwaves is about to go head-to-head. Medicare reform is a huge part of that debate, and the left—bolstered by the media—has been promoting two huge falsehoods on the issue. Several proposals from conservatives and liberals for Medicare reform, including The Heritage Foundation’s Saving the American Dream proposal, are based on a financing model called “premium support.” What that means: Medicare has a premium cost, just as other health insurance does. When the government makes a contribution (sometimes referred to as a “defined contribution”) toward paying your premium, that is called premium support. The difference with reform is that the government would no longer dictate to seniors which Medicare plan they would have to use.

Media Malpractice. Erick Erickson
Excerpt: I think I have been more than fair to the media and their polling. I accept that Romney is a bit behind, but acknowledge that a number of polls have a higher Democratic margin than the turn out in 2008. I think it is unfortunate that major media players would rather insult conservatives who take issue with that then explain why it is so and how they are arriving at their polling results. I would note that there are a number of polls that show Romney a couple of points behind that have a more reasonable Democrat to Republican ratio. But I wish the media would explain, instead of insult conservatives, why there is such a gap. Last night on twitter, Chuck Todd was ridiculing people who believe there is a media conspiracy. Meanwhile, his own network has dragged its feet on coverage of the administration’s disastrous handling of Libya and, well, he works for MSNBC.

The Law Means Nothing. Erick Erickson
Excerpt: It is the law that sequestration will happen at the first of the year. It is the law. It is not a hypothetical scenario. As of right now, it is absolutely, positively the law. Defense contractors will be seriously impacted by the sequestration cuts. No one doubts this. It is the law. It is also actually, absolutely, and positively the law that certain employers, including defense contractors, must warn employees of potential layoffs within sixty days of those layoffs. This is due to the Bill Clinton era WARN Act. Because it is law that defense cuts will absolutely happen under present law within sixty days of the election, defense contractors must comply with the WARN Act and notify employees of potential layoffs.

A look at the horrific, graphic Univision Fast & Furious excerpt. Moe Lane
Excerpt: The below is not the entire Univision Operation Fast & Furious expose: it’s merely about ten minutes of it. Ten very graphic, very infuriating, and very embarrassing ten minutes of it. Don’t watch it if you have a physical/mental problem with seeing people being murdered on-screen, and for real.

WH Aide Involved in Fast and Furious Was 'Suddenly' Transferred to Iraq; Issa Threatens Subpoena. By Fred Lucas
Excerpt: Kevin O’Reilly, a member of the White House National Security Staff who regularly communicated about Operation Fast and Furious with the Arizona-based ATF agent responsible for running the operation that allowed guns to flow to Mexican drug cartels, was suddenly transferred out of the White House and into Iraq in July 2011. The transfer took place shortly after the ATF agent had testified in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and the White House had provided the committee with a series of emails that O’Reilly and the agent had exchanged while Fast and Furious was underway. (Q: Why would the “Most Transparent Administration in History” send him to Iraq? A: We don’t have a Moon Base yet. ~Bob.)

Operation Fast and Furious and the Massacre of Mexican Kids. By Joseph Klein
Excerpt: On January 30, 2010, according to the Univision report, hired hit men working for the Mexican cartel La Linea invaded a house and opened fire on nearly 60 teenagers who had gathered there for a birthday party. More shootings occurred outside against neighbors and fleeing students. Univision reported that three of the high-caliber weapons used by the hit men were linked to Operation Fast and Furious. (Obama said Bush was responsible for FEMA’s failure in New Orleans. So why isn’t he responsible for the DOJ under his watch? ~Bob.)

Playing to the Heart. By George Will
Excerpt: Unfortunately for Mitt Romney, presidential politics is, like football, a game with a clock, one with just five weeks of ticks remaining. In football, a team behind by lots of points late in the game must take gambles. Romney is behind -- in the important swing states, with the national electorate regarding who would best handle the economy and health care, and in national measures of favorable voter perceptions.

Cheap Politicians. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: Now that the National Football League has apparently learned that it can be costly to hire cheap officials, perhaps the rest of us should learn the same lesson when it comes to government officials, whose bad calls can do a lot more damage. What do we do when we want a better car, a better home or a better bottle of wine? We pay more for it. We definitely need a lot better crop of public officials. (When I was elected to the Massachusetts Senate, on a pledge to be a full time senator, the salary was $12,000 per year. I could live on that because it was 1973, I was single, and as an old mud Marine, living in a $90 a month, three room basement apartment—including my district office—didn’t bother me. But most of the senators were part-time and successful lawyers, insurance agents or wealthy. Being a senator enhanced their main income, with all the conflicts that created. When I retired undefeated from the senate ten years later, I was still single, still poor and I pulled the $14k I had in the retirement fund to use as a down payment on a house, thus losing my vesting rights to a retirement that would now be paying me a whopping $7,000 a year. It is little wonder that we had senators go to jail when offered $50k bribes. ~Bob.)

Report: JP Morgan Makes Over Half A Billion Dollars Off Food Stamps
Excerpt: A new report by the Government Accountability Institute finds that JP Morgan has made at least $560,492,596 since 2004 processing the Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards of 18 of the 24 states it has under contract for the food stamp program. (If you are confused why so many Wall Street types give to Obama, there is money to be made picking the bones of our Republic. ~Bob.)

Judge Halts Pa.'s Tough New Voter ID Requirement
Excerpt: A judge postponed Pennsylvania's controversial voter identification requirement on Tuesday, ordering the state not to enforce it in this year's presidential election but allowing it to go into full effect next year. (Vote early, vote often. This will carry Pennsylvania for Obama. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Requests from military voters for absentee ballots have dropped significantly since 2008, according to newly released statistics, prompting claims that the Department of Defense is dragging its feet in enacting a law meant to boost military voting. The drop in the battleground states of Virginia and Ohio is among the most pronounced. According to statistics released Monday by The Military Voter Protection Project, the number of absentee ballot requests by both military members and other overseas voters in the two states has dropped 70 percent since 2008. (Your mission is to die to give Obama political cover until after the election. It does not include the right to vote against him. ~Bob.)

Debate Moderators Don't Dare Ask Obama These Questions
Excerpt: With just five weeks left in the campaign, Barack Obama remains unscathed by a partisan press that refuses to vet him. The presidential debates offer voters their last chance for an X-ray. Will PBS' Jim Lehrer finally ask the incumbent tough questions at Wednesday's first debate? Don't hold your breath. He's a liberal Democrat who thinks Obama is a big "positive" for race relations in America. (If any of the "moderators" asks anything like that , take me to the ER (I have insurance). Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

Iran's rial hits an all-time-low against the US dollar
Excerpt: Iran's currency, the rial, fell as much as 18% on Monday to a record low against the US dollar, according to media reports.

Catholic Priest preaches without fear
Excerpt: An outspoken Colorado priest was asked to lead thousands of delegates in prayer at a Colorado State convention... After his Invocation, it is what he said next that caused quite a stir in the convention hall... Turn up the sound and see for yourself.. (Well, here is a priest who does not hesitate to call a spade a spade. Strong, plain spoken speech to the audience, most of whom liked it. Worth a listen. And what he says applies to more than Catholics, it applies to most religious people, and every American who believes that our Founders intended for property and individual freedom to be cornerstones of the nation. –Del)

Black mob hijacks store: 'We own this.' Cops respond 9 hours after clerk attacked, say 'hire security'
Excerpt: They say they now own it. They eat. Smoke. Cuss. Threaten. Spit. Rob. Sell drugs. All on video. Police, ministers, neighbors, the store owner and just about everyone else seems powerless to stop them.

Few Options For Replacing Destroyed Harrier Jets. By Kevin Brancato and Christine Ryan
Excerpt: Tight budgets and a closed production line will make it harder for the U.S. Marine Corps to replace the eight AV-8B Harrier jets lost to a Sept. 14 Taliban attack in Afghanistan. The assault on British Camp Bastion killed two U.S. Marines, including the AV-8B squadron commander, and destroyed six AV-8B Harriers and “significantly damaged” two others. The Marines have sent AV-8B aircraft from another squadron to fill in for those lost.

We Live Under a Media Coup d’État. By Roger L Simon http://pjmedia.com/rogerlsimon/2012/10/01/media-coup-detat/
Excerpt: It is under the guidance of this liberalism, under their own version of sharia, if you will, that the debates will be conducted and Mitt Romney judged. We have long lived under this assumed reign of liberalism – in our media, in our schools, and through our entertainment. It is as pervasive as the air we breathe and as unquestioned. … Barack Obama is a product of this coup d’état.

The friend of my enemy is not my friend.

This Bishop nails it! Impressive presentation! --GBH

Why California Will Give Drivers' Licenses to Illegal Immigrants.
Excerpt: Cedillo said his bill will make roads safer while letting young immigrants drive to school and to work. His reasoning drew support from several Republican lawmakers, while other Republicans argued the state should leave immigration issues to the federal government.

Analysis: In Obama’s economy, immigrants outpace native-born Americans
Excerpt: Immigrant job-seekers have gained far more in President Barack Obama’s weak economy than have native-born Americans, according to government data. Since Obama’s inauguration, employers have fired and hired millions of workers during the bust and slow recovery. The net result is that they employed more than 1.7 million more immigrants — but only 418,000 more native-born Americans — in August 2012, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ household survey.

Human tendency to believe what we like
If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. --Bertrand Russell (This is something of which we need all to be aware, and constantly check ourselves in how we have been ready to accept or deny some article or opinion that we have come across. Most especially if we are going to be dealing with others on the particular subject, we do not want to find ourselves really torn apart when someone else comes up with the detailed facts and sources that prove we were wrong in believing what we wanted to, instead of what was really valid. Good for passing on to others.-- Del)

GOP takeover of Congress would mean 'hand-to-hand combat,' Obama warns
Excerpt: Reporting from Washington — A Republican majority in Congress would mean "hand-to-hand combat" on Capitol Hill for the next two years, threatening policies Democrats have enacted to stabilize the economy, President Obama warned Wednesday. (Glad Sarah Palin didn't say something like this--the media would have crushed her for creating a climate of hate and violence. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: The bluest state is polling at a 20 to 24 point lead for Barack Obama. Who cares that it is struggling with nearly 11% unemployment and facing a $16 billion budget shortfall? What does it matter that its public schools rated variously from 45th to 49th in the nation and that it is home to one-third of the nation’s welfare recipients, forty percent of the nation’s illegal aliens, and the largest prison population in the country? If Ohio supposedly has a million Obama-phones, I shudder to wonder how many are in California.

Eric Holder Needs To Account For His Role In Farm Settlement Fraud. By Lee Stranahan
Excerpt: Holder’s promotion of farm settlement fraud didn’t end at Pigford, however. The DOJ went on to work with the USDA to create two more settlements for women and Hispanic farmers using the same faulty framework as Pigford. As legal blog Main Justice pointed out in 2010, the idea of the deal worked on by the DOJ and USDA involved giving $50,000 settlement checks “without having the government question the evidence they offer.”

DOJ domestic phone, email, Internet surveillance of Americans skyrocketed under Obama. By Josh Peterson
I blame Bush. ~Bob. Excerpt: A new report from the American Civil Liberties Union shows a dramatic increase in the U.S. Department of Justice’s electronic surveillance of Americans under the Obama administration. Documents obtained by the ACLU through a Freedom of Information Act request revealed that under President Obama between 2009 and 2011, warrantless electronic surveillance requests by the Justice Department to spy on phone communications increased 60 percent from 23,535 to 37,616…..DOJ surveillance of Internet communications, while rarer, increased 361 percent between 2009 and 2011.

Arizona Republic Cries "Wolf" Once Too Often
Excerpt: There isn't anyone in Arizona who doesn't know that the Arizona Republic newspaper, owned by the ultra liberal Gannett Corporation, openly advocates for Open Borders and Blanket Amnesty for illegal aliens. Gannett plants these Open Borders advocates on their editorial boards on newspapers they own throughout the nation. So, it is not surprising that Sheriff Joe Arpao has been a bee in their bonnet. They absolutely hate the guy and have trotted out the silliest of news articles that might somehow stop Maricopa County voters from re-electing him with 80% of voter support, as they have done for over 20 years.

Obama Supporters
Excerpt: From this show on 9/26 - Boortz played these revealing clips from Obama supporters: (There's no hope. None at all. –Larry. If we can’t beat them, it’s our duty to annoy them. ~Bob.)

Indonesia: 5,000 Muslims chanting "Allahu akbar" march on U.S. Embassy -- "Go to hell with your freedom of expression"
Excerpt: It is indeed going to hell, because fewer and fewer Americans seem to grasp its value.

Bangladeshi clergies recommend stoning for Hina-Bilawal
Shari’a Law under the Religion of Peace. ~Bob. Excerpt: Eminent Islamic scholars, leaders and clergies in Bangladesh are recommending punishment under Sharia law for Pakistani foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar and co-chairman of Pakistan People's Party [PPP] Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for the adultery.

Injured Marine comes home to warm welcome
Excerpt: "A Marine doesn't know defeat, you know." Brown said. "There's always gonna be a challenge or expectation, so as long as you can wake up and fill your shoes." ( I sent them a message to ask them to correct the spelling in the report from marine to Marine. Scuzzy civilians. --MasterGuns)

ADULT CONTENT WARNING: Why I’m Worried About Raising a Son in Our Upcoming Brave New World of Android Prostitution
Excerpt: Chinese hospitals are introducing a new machine which can extract sperm for donors. (…) The pink, grey and white machine has a massage pipe at the front which apparently can be adjusted according to the height of its user. Speed, frequency, amplitude and temperature are also controllable. It has a small screen on the top which plays films for the user to help them with the extraction process. (A fascinating speculation on the future. Not sure how I feel about the possibilities anyone can see coming. If not for the driving force of pornography, and the money associated with it, computer and communications technology wouldn’t be even close to where they are today. People WILL buy whatever form of sex they want but can’t get for free. --Ron P.)

Worth Reading: When You Don’t Want to Know About the Real World, Your Spooks Won’t Tell You. By Michael Ledeen.
Wow! Ledeen at his best! Ron P. Excerpt: Too many members of the oracular elite don’t seem to get the connection between policy and intelligence. Or, if they do get it, they deny it, which also happens a fair amount of the time. The connection is simple enough: intelligence goes to the policy makers, and if they make it clear that they don’t want to see or hear about intel that suggests or proves something or other, the intel guys will make sure that the flow of such material shrivels up and dies.

Five Obamacare Taxes Scheduled To Hit You
As the old joke goes, “Brace yourself Harry—here comes the bull!” ~Bob. Excerpt: Of the twenty new or higher taxes in Obamacare, below are the five worst that will be foisted upon Americans for the first time on January 1, 2013:

Surprise: Washington Post‘s Fact Checker Debunks Obama’s Latest Bush-Blaming Ad
Excerpt: The Obama campaign last week released a two-minute video of the president accusing GOP rival Mitt Romney of supporting policies that, he says, caused the Great Recession, a claim the Washington Post’s (WaPo) Fact Checker has awarded three Pinocchios: (The Democrat candidate for State Rep in my district, a Union organizer tied closely to the Chicago Machine, is running TV ads trying to link the Republican to Tea Party people who “want to abolish things like Social Security and Medicare.” The state of Illinois, of course, doesn’t run those programs, and I have never heard a candidate of either party calling for abolishing them, but they count on voters being stupid and easy to frighten. And it often works. ~Bob.)

Issa to Hillary: Why Were Requests For Increased Security in Libya Ignored?
Excerpt: Today, Reps. Issa and Chaffetz sent a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton asking why requests for more protection at the Benghazi embassy were denied. Rep. Issa is the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee and Rep. Chaffetz is the Chairman of the subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations. The full committee will hold a hearing on October 10, 2012 to assess the security situation preceding the terrorist attack of September 11.

There are 2 debates tomorrow night — will the media watch the same one you will? by Greta Van Susteren
Excerpt: Covering the debates is very different from covering other news events. Anchors, correspondents and analysts should watch it on TV. Why? That is what the rest of America is watching. It is true that going to the debates enables a journalist and others to get the ‘behind the scenes’ which is fascinating – but to do good political analysis and reporting of the actual debate requires the person to see the same debate as the voter / viewer.

Frustrate liberal efforts to suppress the vote. ~Bob.

Obama-Biden wants to save your #ladyparts from those Wascally Wepublicans: pic.twitter.com/mJvN5eZD (How about voting like yr grandkids’ future depended on it, not your “Lady Parts”? Does the Obama campaign think women don’t care about the economy or foreign policy? ~Bob.)

Obama Supporters' Dirty Tricks to Win the Catholic Vote
Excerpt: All this amounts to a whispering campaign that is both dishonest about the president's record on abortion and deviously attempts to divide the Catholic electorate on the issue of GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney's religion—something the Obama campaign has repeatedly promised it would not do. With the election getting closer, the comments and attacks are getting nastier. Some people, apparently, will do anything to hold on to power.

New Video Shows Missing U.S. Journalist Captured In Syria Crying Out To Jesus
Excerpt: An American freelance journalist who has been missing in Syria since mid-August has been shown in a video clip posted online, blindfolded and saying “Oh, Jesus” in an exhausted voice in the custody of armed men. The video, which came to light Monday, was the first sign of Austin Tice’s condition since he disappeared more than seven weeks ago. Tice, a 31-year-old former Marine, had been reporting on Syria’s civil war for The Washington Post, McClatchy Newspapers and others.

The Mystery Behind Rising Oil Prices Solved. By Michael Pento
Excerpt: Everything I've been warning about regarding the fallout from global central bankers' love affair with inflation is coming to fruition. Consumers are once again dealing with the fact that the cost of filling up their gas tank is eating a significant portion of their disposable income. The price of a barrel of oil is now soaring above $100 a barrel; just as it always has done when the Fed has gone on one of their counterfeiting sprees.

The Libertarian Case for Mitt Romney. By Stephen Green
Excerpt: I have a Libertarian friend who’s likely to vote for Gary Johnson, but is open to supporting the GOP — if someone can convince her why Romney should get her vote. With just five weeks left, I suppose it’s time for somebody to make the libertarian case for Mitt Romney. (Easy case to make. Johnson can’t win. If Romney doesn’t win, Obama will expand government power, size and debt beyond any hope of control over the next four years. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: A classic Joe Biden moment today: Not only does he repeat the lie that Romney is going to raise taxes on the middle class — “raising taxes with a tax cut,” no less! — but his main complaint appears to be that the “middle class has been buried the last four years.” Who is the president again? (The Ryan-Biden debate is going to be more fun than clubbing baby seals –@IowaHawk Alternate Headline: Biden endorses regime change. ~Bob.)

Remains of 6 U.S. Marines who went missing in WWII plane crash found

Excerpt: Marines Missing in Action from WWII Identified. The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) announced today that the remains of seven servicemen, missing in action from World War II, have been identified and are being buried with full military honors. (Semper Fidelis, Brothers. ~Bob.)

Hunt for Southampton sex attack suspect Mohammed Islam
Excerpt: HE is one of Hampshire’s most wanted men. This is the face of suspected serial sex attacker Mohammed Islam, who police are trying to find in connection with a series of terrifying assaults on lone women. But the 22-year-old is today at the centre of a major police appeal after he failed to answer bail and vanished from his home. (Probably searching local churches so won’t be called racist Islamophobes. ~Bob.

Mitt Romney vs. Barack Obama: An unskewed look at the latest polls
Hope this is not just wishful thinking. ~Bob. Excerpt: The UnSkewed Average of polls released today shows a Mitt Romney lead over Barack Obama of 51.5 percent to 43.7 percent. The UnSkewed average of polls includes the unskewed data from several mainstream media and other major polls of the presidential race along with the QStarNews presidential poll. Here is an example illustrating the process of “unskewing” a skewed poll that over-sampled Democrats.

Violence stalks women workers in Afghanistan. By Amie Ferris-Rotman
Didn’t get the “Islam is a Religion of Peace” memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Muzhgan Masoomi’s attacker stabbed her 14 times with a thick blade used to slaughter animals, tearing wide gashes in her flesh before leaving the government worker for dead on the outskirts of the Afghan capital. With a severe limp and no control over her bladder – caused by the blade scraping her spinal cord - the 22-year-old can no longer work at the Ministry of Public Works, where she was a financial assistant before the assault. Women who pursue careers in ultra-conservative Afghanistan often face opposition in a society where often they are ostracised - or worse, brutalised - for mixing with men other than husbands or relatives.

Liberal, secular 'infidels' must be prosecuted, says Brotherhood preacher
Excerpt: Liberals, modernists and secularists are infidels and must be brought to trial for abandoning Islam, according to an ultra-conservative preacher in the Muslim Brotherhood. (Obama better stay out of Egypt. His friends there are getting restless. ~Bob.)
