Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for September 18, 2012

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

The Foreign Policy Speech Romney Should Give. By Robert A. Hall
Excerpt: But President Obama has never understood, in fact seems incapable of understanding, that it takes two sides to make peace, only one side to make war. Islamic extremism is growing, is often funded by our erstwhile friends, numbers millions of adherents and is able to manipulate the emotions of tens of millions more poor and ignorant Muslims who are understandable frustrated at the poverty created by the lack of economic and political freedom in their countries. And they are at war with us, with western civilization, and with the majority of peaceful Muslims, and have been for decades. Wishing it were not so will not change that painful fact. They give us only the options of defense, or defeat and death.

Libyan president says U.S. consulate attack was premeditated; U.S. Ambassador Rice says it began spontaneously. By Sean Sullivan
Excerpt: Libyan President Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf said he is convinced a Tuesday attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left four Americans dead was premeditated, but the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said Sunday that the protests near the consulate began spontaneously, but were later hijacked by armed extremists. (If the facts don’t fit the Obama campaign narrative, the facts are racist, and must be changed. The Libyan President may be there, but he needs to read the Obama campaign talking points before he shoots off his mouth. ~Bob.)

4 troops killed in southern Afghanistan insider attack
Excerpt: Four U.S. troops were killed Sunday at a remote checkpoint in southern Afghanistan when a member of the Afghan security forces opened fire on them, military officials said. The attack brought to 51 the number of international troops shot dead by their Afghan partners this year. (The NVA had heavily infiltrated the ARVN and South Vietnamese Government. Of course. But mostly they were used to provide intelligence and to spread Communist propaganda to gullible US Reporters. ~Bob.)

Unreal!… US Ambassador Rice Says Benghazi Attack Was Spontaneous Reaction to Offensive YouTube Video. By Jim Hoft
Excerpt: The attack included over 150 Islamists equipped with rocket propelled grenades and assault rifles. Al Qaeda already admitted the attack was revenge for its leader’s death earlier this year. In fact there is no evidence that a protest even occurred before the consulate came under attack.

Indonesians upset with anti-Muslim film clash with police outside US Embassy; at least 12 hurt
Excerpt: Indonesians enraged over an anti-Islam film hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on Monday, in the first violence in the world’s most populous Muslim country since outrage exploded last week in the Middle East and beyond. (Remember, the Indonesian people were going to really love Americans, once they learned we have a president who spent several childhood years living there. -- Jim Geraghty)

Quote
“I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” The Audacity of Hope, page 261. (Ugly enough for you now, Mr. President? ~Bob.)

Important: What the Wisconsin collective bargaining ruling means. By Sean Sullivan
Excerpt: A Wisconsin’s judge’s Friday decision to strike down Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) signature legislation that curbed collective bargaining for most public employees could leave a mark on the political sphere, as it comes just over seven weeks before Election Day. (If it stands, it means the states that are trying to be fiscally responsible will join California, Illinois and other union-controlled states swirling around the fiscal drain. Chicago, for example, is desperate. See the next article. ~Bob.)

CPS finances tell grim tale
Excerpt: To cover the costs, CPS borrowed heavily and siphoned billions of dollars from the teachers' pension fund. Those moves, compounded by the burst of the dot-com bubble and a severe recession, have thrown the school district into a financial tailspin.
Since 2001, the district has seen its net assets plummet from $1.2 billion to negative $1.2 billion, a decrease of 200 percent.

Our Constitution Is Under Fire
Excerpt: Today, the federal government has acquired an all but unquestioned dominance over virtually every area of American life. It acts without constitutional limits and increasingly regulates our most basic activities, from how much water is in our toilets to what kind of light bulbs we can buy. So while we face many challenges, the most difficult task ahead—and the most important—is to restore constitutional limits on government. Forty visionaries signed a piece of paper 225 years ago today that became one of the most vital documents in the world: the U.S. Constitution.

Excerpt: Both President Obama and Professor Krugman are using very broad historical strokes to make the case that an activist federal government is essential to prosperity. These strokes have an air of plausibility and contain elements of truth. But a closer examination of the actual events of the immediate postwar period provides a picture that is much more nuanced and at odds with the world view that government intervention is the essential ingredient of prosperity.

Excerpt: Whatever you think of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) there are two propositions that are hard to argue with: (1) seniors have been singled out and forced to bear a disproportionate share of the cost of a new entitlement for young people and (2) the states are administratively just not ready to implement the new program in time for its January 1, 2014, start date. So here’s a simple proposal that is also revenue neutral: Delay the scheduled cuts in Medicare spending by five years and pay for that expense by delaying the 2014 start date of ObamaCare by two years.

Household Income Sinks to 1995 Level
Excerpt: According to a report from the U.S. Census Bureau, the median annual household income has fallen to 1995 levels due to the poor economic growth the nation is experiencing. The report also covers other economic concerns such as poverty rates and health care, says the Wall Street Journal. The median annual household income has fallen for the fourth straight year to $50,054 in 2011. This is 8.9 percent lower than the peak of the median income, which was $54,932 in 1999. (Well, Bill Clinton promised that Obama would take us back to the prosperity of the Clinton years. This was fast. ~Bob.)

Trashing the Constitution
A detailed list of the worst violations of the Constitution by Mr. Obama. --Del

This Graph Shows Why Obama Is Ahead In The Polls
Excerpt: Ever since the arguably skewed CNN poll of a few weeks back, conservative voters have been looking at the methodology of polling companies with an increasing amount of skepticism. The fact that most polls have used a model that tries to mimic the voter turnout in 2008, when Democrats beat Republican turnout by 7 points (as opposed to presidential elections like 2004, where turnout between the two parties was relatively even), has not improved this state of affairs.

Enemies without, enemies within and the battle for free speech. By Scott Swett
Excerpt: As the fires burn across the Middle East, Barack Obama and his surrogates loudly insist that the wave of Islamic attacks on American interests, including the brutal murder of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, has all been caused by a YouTube video. As many observers have noted, this tactic is useful in deflecting attention from the administration's security failures, but it also serves a more sinister purpose: facilitating the suppression of political speech in America. (Scott has hit the nail squarely on the head. What is important is the apparent confidence among Islamists that they can attack our embassies and kill our diplomats at will, not the negative aspects of Free Speech in our own country. All the bluster and concern about what we did wrong in hurting Muslim feelings is to keep us from noticing "that man behind the curtain", which is the utter failure of this Administration's pandering to the Muslim world. Which they continue even as the abused body of our ambassador is being buried. This should sicken and enrage all Americans. There are people who will only see efforts to placate them as signs of weakness, and who will exult in their outrageous acts and look forward to more of the same. At times the only answer to such people is obvious strength and obvious willingness to use it. A full set of Marine guards at our embassies, with ample weaponry and loaded, not empty, guns, is what is called for. Yes, an Alamo-like stand at an embassy would be a very bad thing in many ways, but the truth is that when the strength is there and visible, the chances of an attack drop off sharply. "Qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum." If you want peace, prepare for war, a dictum that goes back a very long way, and remains true throughout time. --Del)

EUSSR Backs Roma Against French – Brits Beware, You’re Next!
Excerpt: The Brussels elite’s Employment Commissar, Laszlo Andor, has arrogantly reprimanded the French, reminding them that they’d been ticked off already and should know better than to presume they have the right to safeguard their persons and property from uninvited undesirables. (What you need to know is that the world elites are working in concert to defeat your sovereignty and that of your nation. Obama is not alone in wanting to eliminate the borders and invite hordes of illegal aliens into the US. Nor is he alone in using the lumpenproletariat to achieve his goal of total "equality" of outcomes for all interest groups, especially the uneducated non-contributors. They are to get all the wealth you have created. Europe has been at this for decades. Here is the latest installment. Now we shall see how Monsieur Hollande deals with this. Like all elected national leaders, he is supposed to lead his nation, NOT Europe. And he is to take his cue from his people, NOT the dictators of the EU Commission. But he has been seen so far as pro-EU and has yet to prove his mettle as a true Frenchman. --Don Hank

1.5 Billion Bin Ladens. By Alan Caruba
Excerpt: Whether good people of all faiths want it or not, extremists seemed determined to bring about a clash between the West and the rest.

Worth Reading: The Magnitude of the Mess We're In: The next Treasury secretary will confront problems so daunting that even Alexander Hamilton would have trouble preserving the full faith and credit of the United States. By George P. Shultz, Michael J. Boskin, John F. Cogan, Allan H. Meltzer and John B. Taylor
Excerpt: Sometimes a few facts tell important stories. The American economy now is full of facts that tell stories that you really don't want, but need, to hear. Where are we now? Did you know that annual spending by the federal government now exceeds the 2007 level by about $1 trillion? With a slow economy, revenues are little changed.

CNN Reporter Sends Obama Donation Request Form to Twitter Followers
I’m sure his coverage is completely unbiased though. ~Bob.

Elite Iranian unit’s commander says his forces are in Syria
Excerpt: The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps said Sunday that members of its elite Quds Force are inside Syria but are not involved directly in military work, the first time a senior official has publicly admitted the involvement of Iranian military personnel in the Syrian conflict.

Excerpt: “The film was simply an act of free speech. The position of the United States should be clear. Violence was not caused by any film,” said Turley. “Free speech is not a characteristic of America. It defines being an American.”

Excerpt: In my recent article on the excellent book Who's Counting?, by John Fund and Hans von Spakovsky, I noted specifically their reference to the measures taken in Mexico to verify the identity of voters at the polls. Mexico is not unusual in this regard. Strict requirements that voters identify themselves adequately are the rule, and not the exception, throughout the developed world.

Obama and the Deliberate Decline of America. By Crystal Wright
Excerpt: This is about President Obama being a weak defender of America abroad, almost by design. Barely six months in office, Obama decided his first foreign trip, as president, would be to Egypt to apologize to the Muslim world for America behaving badly after 9/11. (She Tweets as @GOPBlackChick, and takes a lot of vilification for it. Worth following. www.conservativeblackchick.com. ~Bob.)

An Obama 2013 Recipe Guide
Excerpt: Everyone is predicting that Barack Obama is destined to defeat Mitt Romney and win a second term. If Obama is indeed re-elected he has pledged to push through the programs he was unable to get passed in his first term. No doubt, if Congress does not go along with Obama's Cap and Trade bill, he'll issue an edict and have his energy czar carry out it out without Congressional approval.

Times Changes. By Tim Blair
Excerpt: The New York Times editorial of October 2, 1999, defends the display of Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ and Chris Ofili’s The Holy Virgin Mary: … The New York Times editorial of September 12, 2012, condemns the display of The Innocence of Muslims: (No, it’s that they can denigrate Christians without fear of violence. Islamist violence has effectively imposed censorship on the media. ~Bob.)

The Truth About the Wave of Anti-American Demonstrations. By Barry Rubin
Excerpt: This is not a contest to say the right things so you get invited to a Washington dinner party. It is a political struggle for power in which the losers end up dead or fleeing into exile or having their diplomats shot dead.

Video Purports To Show Us Ambassador Dragged From Benghazi Consulate
Excerpt: User "Abdalgadar Fadi" has uploaded a video on the Arabic language version of the video sharing site purporting to show US Ambassador Christopher Stevens dragged from the consulate in Benghazi. The translation of the text below the video reads: "Moment directed the U.S. ambassador before his death" and the headline translates to: “U.S. Ambassador and the people of Benghazi rescue attempt before his death.” (Very difficult to ascertain whether helping or hurting; of course, interpretations varying. Breitbart says “developing.” NYT has a version and various Facebook and twitter users that speak the language have interpretations. With the plethora of cell phones, surely more will emerge. –Barb)

Allen West Rips ‘Asinine, Naive, Inept, and Incompetent’ Response to Middle East Chaos. By Erica Ritz
Excerpt: Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) gave yet another no-nonsense interview Sunday, where the retired Lieutenant Colonel ripped the administration’s handling of the current crisis in the Middle East. When asked by the Fox News host what he thought of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice’s “spin” that the deadly protests are a “spontaneous” reaction to a ‘hateful’ YouTube video, West responded: “It’s very simple. When I listened to the U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice today, several words came to mind: asinine, naive, inept, incompetent, and borderline ignorant.

Worth reading: Serpents Slither Amongst Us. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Before 9/11 our Middle East strategy was containment. After 9/11 containment shifted to aggressive confrontation. With change in Washington came a confusing approach of apology and confrontation that is giving way to disengagement. But there's a problem - the serpent is not disengaging. The serpent senses weakness and is trying to wrap another coil around us.

White House Must Stop Sony from Releasing 'Killing bin Laden' Film. By John Nolte
Excerpt: Now that the White House and State Department have made clear that they believe movies compel terrorists to terrorize, it's time for them to get ahead of this problem. And one thing the White House can do immediately is to pressure Sony to stop the release of director Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty," which celebrates the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Iran: Jerusalem Will Be Israeli ‘Graveyard’ – ‘If Jews Do Not Leave, There Will Be No Other Way But To Bury All Of Its Inhabitants’
Didn’t get the memo that “Islam is a Religion of Peace.” ~Bob. Excerpt: Iranian analyst Alireza Forghani boasted today that Jerusalem, which he claims was invaded over 50 years ago by the “pig-faced” Jews, will soon become a mass “graveyard” for the Israeli people. Forghani, a strategy specialist in the camp of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, boasted that every city in Israel will turn into a killing ground and the longsuffering of Muslims worldwide “will be justified by the mighty Islamic Iran.”

The White House did it
They got YouTube to yank the video. Check the link below. So now we have religious fanatics from 3rd rate countries dictating what is Free Speech here. Great, just great. That means for sure they can't let that movie about killing Osama go public, can they? –Del. If you are interested, the link below is to the video, “Innocence of Muslims - Muhammad Movie”, reported to be the cause of the current unrest spreading around the world. It runs for about 13 minutes. Judge its offensiveness yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAiOEV0v2RM

Romney’s New “Dear Daughter” Ad Exposes Poor Economy for Women Under Obama

MSM: Muslims riot: 'protesters.' Occupy rapes: 'protesters.' Anarchists loot: 'protesters.' TeaParty assembles: 'crazy violent teabaggers!'

Excerpt: The Democratic National Committee has already apologized for using a photo of four Soviet-era Russian warships in a giant stage backdrop intended to illustrate the party’s support for military personnel and veterans. That huge image, visible in the Time Warner Cable Arena during speeches by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and retired Admiral John B. Nathman, also depicted a synchronized formation of jet aircraft that convention-goers assumed were American fighter planes. But the F-5 fighter planes in the photo are part of the air force of Turkey, a nation whose government is now jailing journalists and establishing Islam as a state religion. (As befits Transnational Progressives. ~Bob.)

Two Marines killed in Afghanistan identified
Excerpt: The two Yuma-based Marines killed over the weekend in Afghanistan have been identified as Lt. Col. Christopher K. Raible and Sgt. Bradley W. Atwell.
Raible, 40, of Huntingdon, Pa., was the commanding officer of Marine Attack Squadron 211, while Atwell, 27, of Kokomo, Ind., was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 13. Both were part of Marine Aircraft Group 13, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. (Contrary to popular belief, there are no "safe areas" in a combat zone. RIP Marines. Someone else will stand the watch now. Saepius Exertus, Semper Fidelis, Frater Infinitas. MasterGuns)

Re-branding Guevara: Che the Butcher: Violent hatred is not something to emulate — or wear on a T-shirt. By John Fund
Excerpt: The stern photo of revolutionary Che Guevara taken by Alberto Korda in 1960 is one of the most reproduced images on the planet, appearing on posters, flags, postcards, T-shirts, and even bikinis. Sadly, the ubiquitous appearances of Che — hailed today usually by his first name only — demonstrate the near-total failure to educate people about the blood-soaked cruelty he really represented.
