Thanks for Reading and Responding

I’m a tad over-whelmed with the number of posts, followers and e-mail messages that have resulted from my “I’m tired” post, below. I’m sorry that I haven’t been able to answer all the messages. I’ve worked 12 days straight, over 120 hours, so it’s been hard to keep up. (And one guy responded that I should get a real job! No thanks--this is enough.)

I have the weekend off to do shopping and chores and go to a Marine vets dinner, so I should get to a few more of the in-box.

I moderate the comments to try to avoid most foul languages (I let some mild ones through, as I hate to reject comments, but it doesn’t help the writer’s case). I try to reject double posts.

For those who thought “I’m Tired” meant I had “given up,” or was just “bitching,” I’m sorry I don’t write well enough to get my message across. What I was trying to do was to inspire people to support change. Change that would defend free markets, which despite their flaws, have giving us a life style that tens of millions would trade places with you to get. There are a lot more people trying to get into America than out. Change to support limited government, because the larger our government, the less our freedom. Change to support individual responsibility. Change to support protecting our country and freedoms against forces that, as so often in the past, would obliterate it.

And, yes, I know Republicans are part of the problem. They are among the worst offenders using our money to buy our votes through "earmarks." Yeah, I remember the good old days, back last fall when even Barack Obama was against earmarks. Welcome to Washington, Mr. O.

For those who would like to understand the corrupt politics here in Blagobamaville, I recommend reading the columns of John Kass in the Chicago Tribune.

They are on line at http://www.chicagotribune.com/. Search for Kass.

Here are a couple:

For those concerned about the future of freedom, I recommend America Alone, by Mark Steyn. Entertaining but scary to read, Steyn looks at the unfunded social liability programs in Europe through deficit spending, the declining birth rates of the native population, and the growth of the “guest worker” Muslim population (many on welfare as well). With the native populations all having children below the replacement rate, and with Muhammad being the most common baby boy’s name in large European cities, the chances are that European freedoms will be extinguished by the tyranny of Shari’a law in the not distant future. Buy a burka for your granddaughter—she’ll probably need it.

Don't believe it? Google "Honor Killing."

For those who would like to understand economics better, I think Dr. Thomas Sowell’s terrific book Basic Economics should be required reading to graduate from college or hold public office. His autobiography, A Personal Odyssey, about growing up in a poor black family in NC, working his way through Harvard, and becoming perhaps the most respected market economist in the country, is inspiring. Also not to be missed are his Economic Facts and Fallacies, The Quest for Cosmic Justice and Black Rednecks and White Liberals. His website is www.tsowell.com.

For those who urged me to run for office again, thanks for your support. I did that five times from 1972 to 1980, successfully, for the Massachusetts Senate. But I live in Chicago now, my chances would be zero, and I have a family to support.

And at 63, with a persistent cough, bad ankles and a tad over my fighting weight, I probably can’t take up a rifle for Uncle Sam again. So I do what I can: vote, contribute a few dollars to good candidates, urge people to get involved and write.

Thank you for reading. You do me honor—even those who disagree with my points of view. Isn’t it great to live in a country where you can still speak your mind? They are going to try to outlaw that, as well. They’ll call it “Hate Speech.” Meaning you are saying things they don’t like.

And to all my brother Marines who wrote, it was a privilege to wear the same uniform you did. I thank everyone who served, in all branches.

  2. Yes, we need to get up off our couches and exercise our right to be proud Americans. To that end, as of April 1, 2009 my website, www.ComfyCozyPetFurniture.com, will only sell 100% made in the USA products. We're at 85% now and have just found new US suppliers who will help us make it 100% April 1. It was amazing that at a recent trade show, our first question was, "Are your products made in the US?" We got so many negative answers. Companies are brain washed that they can't compete if they manufacture in the U.S. We heard, 'good luck, but you won't be able to earn a living selling US made products' from more than a few vendors. They are wrong. You just have to be smarter. To anyone reading this I say stay out of Walmart and do your google searches to find US manufacturers of whatever it is you are looking for. They're out there and when you find them they are SO MUCH BETTER than imports you can't believe it!

  4. Your article could have been written by me (if I had the talent to write) or many of my friends. We are so tired of what is going on in this country...we are giving our country away and the fat cats in D.c. don't care. We are saddling our grandchildren with a huge debt. My husband, who passed away recently, was a retired Chief Petty Office in the Submarine Force. He was so proud of his service to his country and so proud of every man and woman who served in the military. I'm happy he isn't here to see this mess right now.

  6. Just received an email from a friend which contained your I'm Tired post, and just like my email said in the subject line, I agree...you hit the nail on the head and said everything very well that I have been thinking but don't have the ability to write out. I think everything you write is doing exactly what you want it to do, and that is getting people to think. Thank you, you have brought up some points that have made me think as well and I will be back. Hope you enjoy your weekend off of shopping and chores. ;)

  7. Loved your "I'm Tired" comments and agree wholeheartedly. What I want to know is how do we get out of this downward spiral we have gotten ourselves into? Between the new administration, our corrupt congress, the ACLU and political correctness, we are losing GOD in everything and our sovergnty in the process. I am scared but angry enough to do something if I only knew what!! I will pass on your comments and hope enough people get angry and form a coalition.

Per your advise, I'm going to read Thomas Sowell’s book Basic Economics. Thank you for your clear and precise writings, I find them easy and entertaining to read. During reserve duty was Airline pilot. I have witnessed an unbelievable change in our country over my 72 years and feel helpless to do anything about it. 11. Just read "I´m Tired". Good stuff and specially your comparisons on freedom of speech in Venezuela. I volunteered for ROTC and prepared myself to fight communism back in 1967, but this Chavez revolution caught me old, and I´m now 63 too. We were confident that GW Bush would do the same to Hugo Chavez as his Father George Herbert Bush did to Manuel Noriega in Panama back in 1989. How wrong we were.
I write the same as you do for Democracy. I´m a cardiac case now also. Can´t carry a rifle but still write on a PC for freedom and prtogress south of Rio Bravo.

  12. Hello Mr. Hall, first and foremost thank you for taking time to sacrifice your life, health and well-fair to serve in the armed services.

Having done so I'm sure came at a tremendous price, yet I can appreciate your willingness to do so. I do not agree with the reasons of the Vietnam conflict, but I understand the results and how they could have been avoided; LOVE.

Love is what will change the corruption you speak of in your 'I'm Tired' article.

Also, may I suggest Boswillian cream for your aches. It's natural from a root and cost about $8 to $10 a tube. If you cannot find it in your area, write me at goodsteward2003@yahoo.com, and I will send some free of charge.

    Several comments to your article:

    1. There is a solution that practically and relevantly will reverse the effects of our present condition. It requires a few willing souls to begin, and will be backed by the greatest of power.

    2. While I thank you for serving your country as Senator, the party system is partly to blame. By Constitution no party was ever created originally. A house divided will not or never stand the storms of this present day. Therefore, we who truly accept the responsibility of citizenship, rejecting ALL perversions of such must stand up and speak out.

I realized that you receive many emails, but please write me back - We NEED to talk, and soon.

    Thanks;
    A Concerned brother of humanity

  13. Saw that you are “Tired” and then read your blogspot, and a few of your posts. I’m a former Navy pilot from the Nam Era, and can say my best days were with Marines and Navy Chiefs, everywhere, even until today. But I too respect and honor all brothers-in-arms (BIA) and feel the nation is slowing wising up to the travesties being perpetrated on the nation and its tolerance and faith in the future for our families and respect for our way of life.

Your words are effective, truthful, and delivered with a purely apolitical style. Stay active (as you say are still near your old fighting weight!), and keep your voice in the bitstream for all to hear and consider. I will do the same, as a pledge to you and all the rest of us that understand what we all face down the path before us. My cul-de-sac BIA from USA and USAF, both retired, share our perspectives and are working to keep the light shining too. There are many more of us than you or I even realize.

But Old Glory flies over our driveways, and the Marine flag also flies over mine alongside, for Chesty, you, my drill instructors in Pensacola, the son of the same retired neighbors who is completing Marine PLC at Quantico this summer, and all the deceased and living Marines I was honored to be able to serve with over the many years in the technology security industry, government, and other places that remain nameless.

  14. Thank you for speaking the truth. Did you ever consider running for President? How do we get back to what this country used to be? Look at who is making up the population of this country now and look at who is voting these crooks in. We have so many lazy low-lives who want everything for nothing. Oh yes, give all these illegals amnesty and yes, reward these welfare mothers for every illegitimate they drop. The weary white middle class tax payer can't take much more. Many of us can't even get college loans--LOANS; money WE pay back. But the do- nothings and foreigners get it free. Unbelievable! I fear we will be paying for these ingrates until the country falls. Unless people smarten-up and stop allowing these politicians to legally steal from us, we're done. God help our children and grandchildren. And damn the liberal media. They only show one side of everything--the wrong side.

I am Tired of the willingness of others to follow them.

I am Tired Of those same Self Styled leaders that cite ( THOSE OTHER) guys as a master planners who are at the root of things when they themselves have created a dust up / Problem within their own ranks.

I am Tired of the folks who Were quick to toss others out of the circle Because that was the thing to do when questions were raised about leaders choices who never seemed to have read THE ART OF WAR.

I am tired of a leadership that saw not problem Gutting America of its Industrial Base and in some cases provided the Funds to do so.

I am tired of those who thought it was great but now want to complain because the TAXES paid by that Working base of Americans are now being sought from them.
I am tired of leaders who will spout core consertive values then rob the Taxpayers purse to fund Pet Projects.

  19. I just read "I'm tired" and agree 100%! I am 45 years old, never served in our military, but I am very grateful for all that have! Our country is in a mess and on a slippery slope leading head first into socialism! I am tired of the complacency that is smothering the American's who are working to provide for everyone else! I am extremely tired of all those who are willing to forget what happen to this country 9/11/01 or want to minimize the act of hatred we experienced that day by Muslims. I am tired of Christians allowing Jesus Christ to be taken out of the picture because they don't want to offend a Muslim or atheist. Jesus Christ is the only person who ever died for someone else to live and have forgiveness of sin! Praise Him!

  20. I just read your I am tired post and encourage everyone to find their own voice, as you have, until the noise is deafening in Washington and Wall Street. American needs to demand answers to what has happened, who has benefited from our demise, and NOT explanations of how the criminals will fix the problem.

With regard to "I am tried....

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help
support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush
out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while
they tried to fight it off?

What you have sighted here is only 1/2 of the real story. If you are interested in the rest you can contact me,otherwise please know that this issue is far more complicated than you described and deserves more. There is a Recovery answer and it starts with acceptance of personal responsibility for bad choices, however, this effort is one of the most difficult challenges known to man or woman and takes in the totality of human behvior; Mind,Body and Spirit to liberate those afflictted with the disease. Yes,for some it is a disease.

    Back to being tired....

Our political Leaders think we are Morons, and if we do not find our collective voices and hold them Accountable for the past, present, and future, I fear the worst is ahead for our Country.

  21. Sir- you have encapsulated so much that I hear, and say, every day at my job making deliveries. Thanks for saying it so well and so succinctly. Just as an aside which I believe you will appreciate. I had the opportunity about two years ago to meet a gentleman by the name of Hansen. He was Corp; in fact attained Command Sargeant Major. I asked him how long he had been in. His reaponse? "thirty two years, seven months, three weeks." Had to be a 'timer, right? But, since I am the wise guy that I am, I asked if he ever thought of making it a career. He just gave me a look that I know he must have reserved for second leutenants and other lowlifes

  22. Nicely done sir! I deeply enjoyed your "I'm Tired" post. I too, am tired of being told how wrong I am by my college professors for supporting guys like Ron Paul, Capitalism, and core Republican principals. College professors who sit and preach about interventionalism in markets, countries, and domestic policies and say that they are the Intellectuals when they disregard history, and the simple truth about free markets and limited governments.

This last election became more about the anti-Bush campaign, then electing the right political leaders who had consistent views and voting records, and more importantly are competent in financial markets and economics.

If you were to run for office in chicago sir, I would come down and campaign for you, keep up the good writing, and opening a much needed discourse in this country. Also, you mentioned Thomas Sowell's books, I would like to add the Ludwig Von Mises Website, Mises.org, is extremely good with a boat load of information Daily articles, Books, Audio, and Video.

  27. The "I'm Tired" post has so many of the tired Internet-based myths, it's ridiculous. You really think poor black people's inability to pay their bills (Community Reinvestment Act) is the reason for this economic mess, and not rich white men's fiscal irresponsiblities? Seriously? It's cool to be Republican. No problem with that. But to disguise your disdain for Democrats in an "I'm Tired" rant is pathetic at best.

  33. hi - a friend sent me your "I'm Tired" post via email. I was about to discard it as another whining internet diatribe. I am glad I didn't though.
I'll be honest - I don't agree 100% with your views. I am probably what you would label as a "latte liberal"; I live in CA, yes, I like lattes , and I drive a Prius to save gas. I agree with some of your views, even if I would consider myself liberal.

First, I support free speech, even if it means people like Michael Moore can say bad things. its what makes America free. We don't have to listen to them if we don't want to.

Second, agree with you on immigration. Fast track those people who are willing to become citizens, are not felons and are willing to serve in US armed forces.

Third: agree with you that bi-partisanship is broken. I am also tired of people claiming their party is doing the virtuous thing. I would like to figure out a way to fix this mess together - and for that we need to speak up as citizens (as you are doing).

Fourth: I Agree with you 100% that I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

And for what its worth, I am not a member of the armed forces. I respect what you guys have done to serve for our country. That is a big sacrifice. I did fill out my draft card and dutifully sent it in. Had I been called, I would have probably gone. I own a house, pay my taxes and try to do the right thing as a citizen.

  38. Sir-

You are so on the money in so many ways, right in line with the facts. It is unnecessary, in my view, to extrapolate some of the beliefs you have beyond the facts as we live them today. Nothing is INEVITABLE, sir. Not in a Free Country.

Like they will ban relevant conversations as this one as "hate speech"- please. This is the stuff of emotional scare tactics, nothing like the brilliantly researched and hard learned posts you also provide. You may be a bit past serving in the Military now- This is no excuse to go the Rush route, and simply inculcate fears into those who prefer not to think for themselves.

Keep up the good work- It is, last I looked, still legal to do so. Now I have to get back to work. Some of us also have "old school" work ethics. Its not quite the USSA that I keep hearing it becoming in the news and blogs.

  41. This is in response to an e mail I received of your "I'm Tired". I am so sorry for you that you will be 63 with such a negative attitude toward some of the people that populate this country. It is a shame for you that everyone does not have the same outlook on everything that you do.
It would be so much easier never to have to admit that others have minds too.
I am 72, have lived my life probably never having accomplished or will never be able to lay claim to what you can or have. I am able to hold my head high in the accomplishments I have made. I take responsibility for the decisions I have made and don't whine about what the other fellow does when the majority rules because I am not so conceited that I think I am always right.
I do lay claim to being blood related to Abraham Lincoln through his birth Mother Nancy Hanks and I can hear him turning in his grave to think what his beloved party has come to. The Republicans had the majority or the President's veto for 12 years and look at the mess this country is in. It is insane to blame a party that has been in the majority for this short a time for what has taken place. Not that you would be interested but I am no longer a republican and am not a Democrat.

  43. Mr. Hall,
Your blog post "I'm Tired" was sent to me by a friend. My name is Scott Babbidge, and I am undertaking the mission of my life by starting an organization called Take Back The Republican Party. Our soft launch is scheduled for March 21 with our full national campaign commencing on April 15.
There are a lot of people in the world, Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich, Sean Hannity and others, who talk a good game, but never truly take action.
Take Back The Republican Party is going to become a major force in America because we are going to act.
Personally, I am tired of the direction our country is headed, and I am tired of people who say government is too complicated to be changed.
I am tired that we continue to elect politicians who will do and say anything to anyone to get a vote, and once elected, only ever do what they want to do and what is best for them. Currently, my blog is located at 729days.blogspot.com.
I am going to follow your blog, and I hope that, from time to time, you will share your wisdom with me, even write a piece or two for TakeBackTheRepublicanParty.com
We must act now, before it is too late. Thanks for reading, and have a tremendous day!

  44. Hello Marine,
You said everthing that I have thought for many year's and said it so well that I have printed it out to frame and hang on my wall. I also worked hard to get to where I am and still ran to the sound of gunfire for the 25 years that I spent in the Police Department. I also ran to the sound of gunfire for our country whlie serving both as a Marine like you and as a Air force Sgt. with the regular Air Force and the Air National Guard. If people like you were in the White House and or Congress maybe this country would be on the right track. Needless to say no one gave me anything I WORKED FOR IT.

  45. Dear Sir, saying kudos or congratulations doesn't even come close to my agreement to this blog. I also am one of those hard workers ( since I'm 9yrs old) who's tired.

I would have been inthe military to serve our great country if it wasn't for arthritis in both knees and I am proud to be able to correspond with you. You sir are the type that should be looked up to, not the fools that are now!!

I own my own home and even though I am currently out of work due to a serious illness, I am able to afford my place.Too many people do not think far enough in advance toconsider these possibilties and that is what gets them into trouble.

I completely concur with your feelings of those who wish to adopt our great homeland as thier home should learn English. That is what my family and I did in the 1960's when we moved to the northeast from Canada.

The hispanics today have more options available to them than ever in the history of this country to learn English, yet I keep hearing that they are afraid of losing their heritage! That sir is pure unadulterated BULL!!! My family and I are living proof of that!

Thank you for giving me the privilage of reading this blog and I apologize that it has taken me so long to respond because the storms we have had here in Arkansas wiped out my internet for several weeks.

Perhaps we can end this foolishness and return the true and biblically accurate way of running this country. After all this is what our founding fathers based this on.

God bless in all you do!

  46. Dear Mr. Hall, I was fortunate enough to have a friend send me a copy of "I'm tired". Well, so am I! I'm 59, Viet Nam Era Navy vet, retired federal worker, and son of a WWII combat Navy vet and Great Depression survivor. Your words ring true. I am disgusted with the direction of the country, and I feel our politicians no longer look out for us. I fear we are losing the struggle to preserve freedom and our free enteprise system. Let's hope America wakes up in time to save our culture. Time is running out. And thank you for your dedication and service as a Marine and life-long patriot. George, Maryland

  48. Mr. Hall, Thank you for your comments. We live in a tough, cynical world. As you, I am also tired....of living in a world where my Christian heritage is being forgotten, where history is seemingly being rewritten, where my American freedoms and rights that men and women have fought and died for, are being stripped away. It is heart wrenching to watch the lies and sensationalism of the media tear away at the heart of the truths. How is it that people have forgotten about 9/11? My husband and I minister to a group of young adults, many are military. I appreciate their sacrifices and their contributions. My father was a Marine. We grew up...not knowing we were poor, because we were self-sufficient. My husband and I have worked hard all of our lives. Our failures are our own. Our successes are our own, with the grace of God. We abide by the laws of the land with respect for others. Will there be a time we can 'retire'? Probably not. We will continue working hard, living right, doing for others, loving our children and our grandchildren, and serving our Lord Jesus. Thank you again for your insights. ....in Texas

  51. A friend sent me the "I'm Tired" article--thank you for putting into words what a lot of us older Americans think--I never smoked pot, either--and I love the expression"unregistered pharmacists"

  53. Thank you for writing "I'm Tired". I think you expressed very well the way some of us are feeling right now. I was a teenager in the 70's and never smoked pot or did any other drugs either. I am amazed when people actually don't believe me. Has it really come to that? This taxing the rich is getting on my last nerve too. People need to read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad". It explains a lot to people that don't get it.

  54. Way to go Tired man! You nailed it. I'm 61 and served. Retired reserve naval aviator. I wonder if you'll be reprinted in the NYT or seen on CNN any time soon?

It's scary thinking what thhe new age european socialists in Washington have planned for all of us. I think it will be France in 1789. Robespierre and the Committee for Public "Safety" will be in charge. Best to you and God Bless. Buck Burwell

  55. Dear Sir,
I heartily agree with every word said. I just wish more people understand what you, I and several others have been trying to tell them, but the are believing the "ice cream" man, sorry to say. Keep up the good work and maybe we can once again, have America and it's values back where we know they should be.

  57. Dear Robert Hall, I am 66, 327th.abn. brgd.,101st. Abn. Div. 60/63. Your article "I,m tired" was right on point. My sentiments have been paralell with yours for many years. We can arrest this morass if we are up-to-the-task. It must start in the churches. Prior to and during the Americn Revolution King George III called the pastors in the Colonies " Those basterds in black robes, the Black Brigades". The sucess of the American Revotution was predicated on the guidance and motivation from the churches. we must return to the values upon which our great Republic was founded. Wm. O. Hilton sr.
