Today's Offerings

Must Read--Scary Chart: The Reality of America's Finances. By Jon Gabriel
Excerpt: When Washington raised the debt ceiling this week, the Beltway media breathlessly reported that the fiscal crisis had ended. Lawyers danced in hallways, bureaucrats twerked on the Metro, congressional aides kissed strangers in the streets — the Tea Party has been defeated! It was like VJ day for wonks.

Must Read: The Supersessionists of the Liberal Conspiracy. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The consensus we all live by is a fragile thing. It is being torn apart by the radical left and once it is destroyed, it will not bind the right, in the same way that it no longer binds the left. And then the true conflict will begin.

Where Now? By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: The government gridlock is, to use now politically incorrect metaphors, only one lost battle in a long campaign, and we are now back to the original proposition of watching the administration try to implement Obamacare. We know the president does exceedingly well when he can campaign against the forces of darkness, but when attention, even for a moment, turns to his own efforts — Obamacare; the stimulus; Solyndra; cash for clunkers, Benghazi; the AP, IRS, and NSA scandals; gun control; Syria, etc. — as it will now for a few weeks until the next psychodramatic “war” against someone, he flounders.

Senior officer, NCIS agent are among those arrested in Navy bribery scandal
Excerpt: The U.S. Navy is being rocked by a bribery scandal that federal investigators say has reached high into the officer corps and exposed a massive overbilling scheme run by an Asian defense contractor that provided prostitutes and other kickbacks.

SNAP Failure: The Food Stamp Program Needs Reform. By Michael D. Tanner
Excerpt: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the food assistance program formerly known as food stamps, has become America’s fastest growing social welfare program. As recently as 2000, just 17 million Americans participated in the program at a cost of less than $18 billion. Today, roughly 48 million Americans receive SNAP benefits, costing taxpayers more than $78 billion per year. Yet according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), nearly 18 million American households remain “food insecure.”

Government waste stifling growth worldwide. By Richard Rahn
Excerpt: From the end of the recession in 2009, real economic growth in the United States has averaged less than 2 percent, which means that it will take around 35 years for real income to double. Contrast this performance with the last four years of President Clinton's administration and the four years under President Reagan after the end of the 1981-82 recession, when growth averaged more than 4 percent per year. If those rates had been sustained, real incomes would have doubled in a mere 17 years. The Chinese have been doubling real incomes about every seven years because their growth rates have been ranging between 7 percent and 12 percent per year.

Wind Energy Receives Preferential Treatment
Excerpt: As the federal budget debate continues to heat up, one of the contentious energy policy battles is over the extension of the wind production tax credit (PTC), a 2.3-cents-per-kilowatt-hour handout that is awarded to wind producers and other qualifying sources and continues for a decade after initial production, says Nicolas Loris, the Herbert and Joyce Morgan Fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

Work begins on Calif. bullet train, locals angry
Excerpt: Such sentiments can be heard throughout the Central Valley, where roads are dotted with signs such as: "HERE COMES HIGH SPEED RAIL There goes the farm." Growers complain of misplaced priorities, and residents wonder if their tax money is being squandered. (Another liberal pie in the sky cluster f**k. - LLW)

RELIGION OF PEACE: Syrian Snipers ‘target unborn children in chilling competition to win cigarettes’
http://clashdaily.com/2013/10/religion-peace-syrian-snipers-target-unborn-children-chilling-competition-win-cigarettes/
Excerpt: The unborn children of Syrian women are the targets of a sickening war game where a shooter who murders a foetus in its mother’s womb is awarded with cigarettes, a British surgeon has revealed.

Boy Scout Leaders Topple Ancient Rock Formation In Utah's Goblin Valley State Park (VIDEO)
Excerpt: The stone formation they destroyed was nearly 200 million years old, but the Boy Scout leaders who toppled it claim it posed an imminent threat. The 3 men responsible, who filmed their activity in Utah's Goblin Valley State Park and uploaded the footage to Facebook, may face felony charges. A copy of the video was posted on YouTube by the Salt Lake Tribune and shows a scene of giddy revelry. (The Native Americans would tell you all things from the Creator have energy and spirit. But one with the wisdom of 200 million years….Very bad karma….They might want to avoid hoodoos in the future…Barb)

Report: NSA hacked former Mexican President Calderón

http://thehill.com/blogs/hillicon-valley/technology/329525-report-nsa-hacked-former-mexican-president#ixzz2iKTkenEl
Excerpt: The president’s office was considered “a lucrative source,” since the domain was also used by cabinet members and contained detailed communications about the Mexican political system. Documents about the mission, known as “Flatliquid,” were obtained by Der Spiegel from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden. Another NSA operation outlined in the documents, dubbed “Whitetamale,” gained access to emails of high-ranking officials in the Mexican agency tasked with fighting the drug trade and human trafficking.

Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood protesters deface church with "Egypt is Islamic" graffiti; 3 dead, 18 injured as Muslims open fire at another church

Excerpt: WND senior reporter Aaron Klein displays a Jewish demeanor in his appearances on Fox News, according to Department of Homeland Security adviser Mohamed Elibiary. The unusual comment came in an email exchange in which Klein had asked Elibiary to comment on a recent tweet in which he warned the tea party against attempting to change the U.S. political landscape through “Christianist Xenophobia.”

Baghdad cafe bombing kills at least 38
Excerpt: A suicide bomber driving a minibus blew himself up outside a cafe in a mainly Shi'ite Muslim district of the Iraqi capital on Sunday, killing at least 38 people, police and medics said.

Again: Arabs Fly Nazi Flag Near Road
Excerpt: For at least the second time in five months, Arab residents of Beit Umar in the Palestinian Authority (PA) have placed a Nazi flag over a major thoroughfare where Jews pass in their vehicles.

Pakistan, school textbooks teach its okay to kill Christians
Excerpt: The text-books of Pakistani schools pose the killing of Christians as "goal to be sought" that would help the same members of the minority to seek martyrdom for the faith.

Avoiding Fiscal Catastrophe. By Ed Feulner
Excerpt: Thanks to unbridled spending, corporate bailouts, and the takeover of the best health-care system in the world, America stands on the verge of a financial cliff that endangers our future, our children’s future, and our grandchildren’s future. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Here is a series of reforms that can help us avoid fiscal catastrophe:

Excerpt: The most common reason for a death spiral is government price fixing, usually in the form of community rating and guaranteed issue (where everyone is charged the same premium and the insurer must take all comers). Healthy people leave the pool because they are being over-charged. Sick people remain because they are being under-charged. This would not occur if each enrollee were charged a premium that reflects his/her actuarial risk.

Excerpt: You can see where this is going. The insurance always costs more than the penalty, and the insurance isn’t that great once you account for co-pays and deductibles. If the reason an uninsured person hasn’t bought insurance is that it’s too expensive, then most of the time they’re going to choose the cheaper option – paying the fine.

The Obamacare website isn't so funny when you realize that the same government that made that also handles nuclear weapons.

Liberals with guns

Good Column: Liberalism’s War on Women. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: A year ago, Filner had appeared at a Planned Parenthood rally while running for mayor of California’s second largest city to accuse his opponent of being part of the war on women. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund had sent out a letter asserting that “for twenty years, Bob Filner has defended women.” At the rally, attendees were told that he had spent “the last twenty years protecting our rights and the rights of women everywhere.”

Bomber Tied to Al Qaeda Kills Dozens in Syrian City
Excerpt: A suicide bomber detonated a truck filled with propane tanks at a crowded military checkpoint in central Syria on Sunday, killing more than 30 people, most of them civilians, in the second such attack by fighters linked to Al Qaeda in two days. (Our moderate allies. Thank God the civilians were not killed with gas--make all the difference. ~Bob)

Snowden leaks: France summons US envoy over spying claims
Excerpt: French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has summoned the US ambassador over newspaper claims that the US spied on millions of phone calls in France.

Fresh Leak on US Spying: NSA Accessed Mexican President's Email

Egypt gunmen open fire on Coptic Christian wedding in Cairo
Excerpt: Three people, including a girl aged eight, died when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on a wedding party outside a Coptic Christian church in Cairo.

Flashback: Remarks by the President on the Affordable Care Act and the Government Shutdown
Excerpt: Now, like every new law, every new product rollout, there are going to be some glitches in the signup process along the way that we will fix. I’ve been saying this from the start. For example, we found out that there have been times this morning where the site has been running more slowly than it normally will. The reason is because more than one million people visited healthcare.gov before 7:00 in the morning.

What If They Gave a Shutdown and No One Cared? By Kurt Schlichter
Excerpt: Perhaps it’s anecdotal, but it seems to be a pretty common anecdote – outside the Beltway, no one cares. The shutdown, the debt ceiling – it’s not even on normal peoples’ radar except for as part of what those normal people who don’t live and breathe politics regard as the general background noise of governmental dysfunction. I’ve heard literally no normal folks talk about the “crisis.” Not one or two or three but zero.

Reality Check for HealthCare.gov: Even an administration that refuses to answer questions can’t keep the facts hidden forever. By John Fund
Excerpt: Well, for starters, a lot of people would like to know how the federal government showered $634 million on a host of IT contractors to build HealthCare.gov, a website that has had the worst debut of any product since New Coke. The site is supposed to provide a menu of insurance plans for Americans in the 36 states without their own site. Instead, it has become a black box — the few applications insurance companies have managed to receive from it are glitch-filled and error-riddled, the insurers say.

The Entitlement Hang-Up. By Robert Samuelson
Excerpt: Let's drop the whole notion of "entitlement." Just eliminate it. Politicians, pundits and academics who talk about entitlements would then have to name the actual programs and argue their merits and demerits. This would encourage clarity and candor. Of course, that's why it won't happen. Generally, Americans don't want clarity and candor in their fiscal debates. We blame our leaders for budget brawls -- this latest was a doozy -- but forget that our leaders are largely governed by public opinion, which is awash in contradictions.

60 Minutes: Congress Using 'Slush Funds' To Bankroll Lavish Lifestyles
Excerpt: Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ), for example, tapped his wife, a lawyer and an associate law dean at Rutgers School of Law-Camden, to be a PAC compliance officer for his leadership PAC. She approved the use of donor dollars to fly her, Rep. Andrews, and their two daughters to Edinburgh, Scotland for a wedding at a posh resort. Andrews’s leadership PAC paid $16,575 in airfare. His campaign committee picked up the rest of the tab, which was slightly under $14,000. Schweizer says Andrews’s leadership PAC even paid for the wedding gift, which was china from Bloomingdale’s. Andrews and his wife even merged a campaign event with their daughter’s graduation party, allowing them to combine the costs of the two events, even though the PAC did not pick up the entire bill.

CBS Reporter Calls Congresswoman's Campaign Loan Setup Similar To 'Mafia' Scheme
Excerpt: CBS's 60 Minutes confronted Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA) about $150,000 she loaned to her campaign in 1998 at an astounding 18% interest rate, likening the profit margin to organized crime.

Congresswoman Funneled $294,245 In Campaign Cash To Herself
Excerpt: Rep. Grace Napolitano (D-CA) has bagged at least $294,245 since 1998 by loaning her congressional campaign money at interest rates up to 18%--a scheme that effectively funneled campaign contributor donations directly into her personal bank account. (18% guaranteed ROI--not a bad "investment." ~Bob)

New law = 3rd straight year property taxes will go DOWN in WI on a median valued home!

Excerpt: “If all this is too much for you to absorb, follow our previous advice: Stay away from Healthcare.gov for at least another month if you can,” Nancy Metcalf wrote. “Hopefully that will be long enough for its software vendors to clean up the mess they’ve made.” (They only say this because Obama's black and they are racists. ~Bob)

Contractors See Weeks of Work on Health Site
Excerpt: Federal contractors have identified most of the main problems crippling President Obama’s online health insurance marketplace, but the administration has been slow to issue orders for fixing those flaws, and some contractors worry that the system may be weeks away from operating smoothly, people close to the project say.

Excerpt: Among the claimants and littoral states of the South China Sea (SCS), the Philippines and Vietnam have been the most vocal in expressing their alarm and concern over growing Chinese assertiveness in this strategic and resource-rich regional commons.

The Other Long War. By Clifford May
http://www.cliffordmay.org/13941/the-other-long-war
Excerpt: The Muslim world needs democracy and economic reform — on that, almost everyone agrees. As Rami Khouri, columnist for the Daily Star of Beirut, recently complained: "Arab countries . . . have spent nearly a century developing themselves and have so little to show for it. Not a single credible Arab democracy. . . . Not a single Arab society that can claim to have achieved a reasonably sustainable level of social and economic development." But when we talk about democracy and economic reform, do we share a common understanding of what those terms mean? I'm skeptical. (A very thought-provoking essay about the Muslim world and history, and where we are- and are not- today. --Del)

Good Column: The tea party-Obama overlap. By George Will
Excerpt: Much is wrong with Washington these days, including much of what is said about what is wrong. Many Americans say there is “too much politics” in Washington. Actually, there is too little. Barack Obama deplores “politics as usual” here. But recently Washington has been tumultuous because politics, as the Framers understood it, has disintegrated. Obama has been complicit in this collapse. His self-regard, the scale of which has a certain grandeur, reinforces progressivism’s celebration of untrammeled executive power and its consequent disparagement of legislative bargaining.

The Administration is tracking Obamacare applications and enrollments. But I bet they aren’t tracking people who are LOSING their insurance.

Excerpt: In our IBD/TIPP Poll, we ask a different question: "How many members of your household are currently unemployed and are looking for employment?"Not surprisingly, the answer we get differs greatly from the government's data. This month's survey, completed Thursday night, indicated that 47.9 million Americans are looking for work. No, that's not a misprint: 47.9 million. Out of a workforce of 154 million, that yields a gross unemployment rate of 31%

UK doctors given bonuses for placing patients on ‘death lists’ - report
Excerpt: General practitioners in England have been receiving £50 bonuses for placing patients on controversial ‘death lists’ in order to reduce the number of occupied hospital beds. The move is yet another tactic aimed at cutting NHS costs, UK media reported. (The Single Payer System progressives want us to have. ~Bob)

Even my liberal parents are now "Not that into Obamacare" since they lost coverage and can't get on http://healthcare.gov  I TOLD YOU SO!

CBS's Dickerson: White House Risks 'Credibility Death Spiral' Over 'Total Fiasco' of ObamaCare Site. By Matthew Balan
Excerpt: John Dickerson could not have been more blunt on Monday's CBS This Morning about the political damage HealthCare.gov's well-established technical difficulties is already causing President Obama: "It's been far worse than a glitch. It's been a total fiasco, as Senator McCain said. And the problem here is that the administration could get into, sort of, a credibility death spiral."

Group Of Black Brooklyn Youths Attack White Couple For Honking At Them
Excerpt: A group of about 10 black Brooklyn, New York youths ages 12 to 18, allegedly attacked a white couple for honking at them as they walked along a cross walk, according to the New York Daily News.

Just found out my insurance premium is going to more than double + I will get less coverage. #Obamacare #FAIL

Raped and Impregnated at 14, Girl Must Now Share Parental Rights with Her Attacker: Rapist's paternity rights locks victim into 16-year relationship with him.
Excerpt: A rape victim sued Massachusetts to stop it from subjecting her to "a court-ordered 16-year unwanted relationship with her attacker" by giving him paternity rights over the child born from the rape.

Cartoon

@DLoesch my wife was told that the hospital she work at will no longer employ nurses full time, on per diem. and our premiums went up 38%

‘RACIAL SLUR’: Government blocks Asian-American band from trademarking ‘The Slants’
http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/21/racial-slur-government-blocks-asian-american-band-from-trademarking-the-slants/#ixzz2iNoQ34mp
Excerpt: A six-member, Portland, Ore. band composed entirely of Asian-Americans has been fighting the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) for over four years in an effort to trademark the band’s name — “The Slants.” (Suppose a black group wanted to use "The Niggas," which that expert on race, Trayvon Martin's girl friend testified is not a racist term? ~Bob)

Darden: We have to cancel health insurance for 1,000 part-timers because of ObamaCare
Excerpt: Last year, Darden Restaurants raised the ire of progressives when it toyed with the idea of eliminating most of its full-time employment for its hundreds of locations in order to avoid the high costs of ObamaCare compliance. Darden later rejected the idea, but most probably didn’t know that the chain offered low-cost health insurance to its part-time employees — or at least they did. Darden announced today that they will have to cancel that insurance thanks to the coverage mandates of ObamaCare, a decision which will send 1,000 employees into the Healthcare.gov exchanges that aren’t functioning now:

The Truth About Robert Spencer
Excerpt: Robert Spencer is no more “anti-Muslim” than foes of the Nazis were “anti-German.” It has become common, because of the efforts of Islamic supremacist and Leftist groups, to equate resistance to jihad terror with “hate,” but there is no substance to this. Spencer’s work has been entirely dedicated to defending the freedom of speech and the principle of equality of rights for all people before the law.

How NOT to argue with parents about Common Core. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: Former GOP Florida Gov. Jeb Bush accused moms and dads who’ve vigilantly fought dumbed-down curricula firsthand of foisting “mediocrity” on their own kids. Bush, Mike Huckabee, Chamber of Commerce types and Gates Foundation promoters routinely have insulted Glenn Beck and his listeners as conspiracy-mongers for raising red flags about Common Core’s data-mining agenda. A Fordham Institute “expert”arrogantly suggested that actively involved parents like me were somehow confused about which materials have been “aligned” to Common Core, even though we’re the ones sitting down with our kids to help with incomprehensible homework and error-riddled texts every night in our own homes

Man allegedly scams taxpayers for 14 years, FBI says
Excerpt: Sherwood, who had inherited $360,000 from his parents, owned a sailboat, a Yamaha Jetboat, and drove a Mercedes-Benz S420, allegedly defrauded several government programs under his own identity and stolen identities, according to an affidavit filed with the U.S. District Court by FBI Special Agent Tom Simon.

IT IS TIME: Move Your Money Out of the US Banking System
Excerpt: I am still not prepared to give that warning, however, I am now advising that your money be moved outside the US banking system. Within the last 24 hours, I have learned of two major banks that are making it difficult for you to send international wires or draw out large amounts of cash. Both JPMorganChase and HSBC USA have instituted new policies which will make it difficult for you to withdraw your funds in certain ways. (I'm now dependent on Social Security and Retirement Saving. I greatly fear for their safety, but have no idea what to do. ~Bob.)

Arizona Concealed Carrier Stops Possible Mass Shooting by Shooting Man Armed With a Rifle

Excerpt: Associated Press White House Reporter Julie Pace today said Monday morning that the White House has the enrollment numbers for Obamacare but won’t release them. Pace, who appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” said that White House was “selectively” releasing figures related to the Obamacare website to “make the system look good,” while guarding the enrollment numbers. (Show me your shocked face. ~Bob)

One for the girls, please, Bob:
Jackie, the icon who exuded style in the face of betrayal. By Christina Odone
Excerpt: I grew up with Kennedy mania. Kara, Senator Ted Kennedy’s feisty daughter, was a classmate and friend in the Seventies. When she invited us to her home in McLean, near Washington DC, to play touch football on Sundays, everyone experienced a frisson of excitement: would her Dad be there.

'Draw you favourite part of the Mass," said the Religious Educaton teacher. Big mistake. By Damian Thompson
Excerpt: This is what really devout Catholics and especially converts don't get. I remember Ed West telling me: "Hearing the words 'The Mass is ended. Go in peace' = instant dopamine spurt. [I was brought up Catholic and have always had enormous difficulty with the Church. I totally get this. Kate.)
