Old Jarhead's Political Sitrep for August 10, 201

Formerly "Political Digest." (I decided to change the name when I saw there were too many "political digests" around. Some folks thought I was copying others when my readers and I were compiling this one. "SitRep" is military speak for "Situation Report.") Bringing you news and information the MSM is too busy covering American Idol, celebrity affairs and sensational missing person cases to cover. Please forward to friends who need to be informed.

I post articles because I think they are of interest. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. In some cases I post things sent to me by readers I might not have posted on my own, to get ideas circulating.

Sorry I've been off the grid. Returned to over 600 e-mails, so a lot I can't review. Not enough hours. ~Bob

Why the Dem platform didn’t need God

Information on my books

DVD Recommendation: The Third Jihad
Though this video is four years old, I watched it for the first time with friends this weekend, and highly recommend it. It is by an American Muslim, a doctor and veteran, who loves Islam. This is, as he says, not an anti-Islam film, but a video exposing the threat to the lives and freedoms of everyone--not the least the millions of Muslims who are so often the victims of the extremists-- of the radical jihads and political Islam. He is one of the few with the courage to speak out and deserves respect and a hearing. ~Bob.

Worth Reading: The Democrats' Soft Extremism: Obama is out of ideas, and Clinton's speech was unworthy of him. By Peggy Noonan
Excerpt: He was somber, and his message was essentially banal: We've done better than you think. Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? There were many straw men. ... It was stale and empty. He's out of juice.

Worth Reading: Things get a little foggy for Democrats in Charlotte. By John Kass
The Chicago Tribune now requires you to register to read for free. I may have to stop directing blog readers to their site. But there has been some great Kass columns lately, if you take the time to register. ~Bob. Excerpt: On Wednesday, the Democrats finally found religion — and the capital of Israel. They put both back into the platform, but not before a messy scene on the convention floor, with the convention chairman, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, pretending that the ayes had it while delegates yelled nay at him.

Worth Reading: Rhetoric can't mask unemployment numbers. By John Kass
Excerpt: The August unemployment rate was reported Friday as 8.1 percent — though the real unemployment number that isn't regularly reported is almost two times higher than that, 14.7 percent.
The bleak numbers come in a U.S. Department of Labor report that was released Friday, an indictment of the president's inability to get Americans back to work.

Also Worth Reading: The trouble with Obama's rhetoric: It bites the man who reads it. By John Kass
Excerpt: Barack Obama was marketed in 2008 as some kind of messianic political god, leaving the enraptured throngs unshaken in their faith that every word from his mouth was pure gold. And now the multitudes are out of work. Reality trumps rhetoric. The president's hair has turned from dark to gray under the weight of his first executive position.

Kudos to CNN for Fact Checking the Democrats
Excerpt: CNN’s Tom Foreman and Erin Burnett did a little “Reality Check” this week at the Democratic Convention that was bold and effective. Don’t they realize that they’re not supposed to call out Democrats who fudge the truth? Apparently not, and good for them. (I sent links to several articles from the MSM yesterday and earlier, showing that the MSM are no longer in the White House resident's corner. It's not just that they don't support him. It's worse. Most of these are "fact checker" type articles and videos that show what LIARS Obama and the Dems are. If this doesn't get him unelected, then the collective American IQ simply no longer sustains life. Here is another to add to that list. --Don Hank)

Obama wants to cut Social Security, raise age (and the media forgot to tell you)
Excerpt: Beat the Press - The media and "fact checkers" seem to have missed it, but President Obama implicitly called for cutting Social Security by 3 percent and phasing in an increase in the normal retirement age to 69 when he again endorsed the deficit reduction plan put forward by Erskine Bowles and Alan Simpson, the co-chairs of his deficit commission

Romney: Obama and GOP erred on defense cuts
Excerpt: Mitt Romney said this weekend that his fellow Republicans erred by agreeing last year to automatic defense spending cuts in lieu of a broader debt dealing, and said as president he’ll fight to keep military spending the same portion of the U.S. economy as it is now.

Excerpt: Before having read that witticism I've often thought that liberals really are like "kids" and conservatives are the "parents". If governmental performance is any indication that would certainly seem to be true. Liberals seem to love to spend but always want the "parents" to pay for it. Liberals want everyone to love them and be dependent on them without ever seeing the consequences of people not taking responsibility for their own actions. Liberals, like kids, always have an excuse for unacceptable behavior. Drug abusers are always "victims". Criminals, whether they be murderers, thieves, gang members are "victims of their environment", thus assuming that man has no control over his own behavior.

Nashville woman accused of making terrorist threats toward co-workers
Didn't get the memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Excerpt: According to a release from Metro police, Abdullahi told the employee that “her people were dying for Allah every day; that she was ready to die for Allah; that this whole country will be Muslim soon; that this country is full of non-believers and that this place (her work place) is full of non-believers; that all unbelievers should die; that her life starts after death; that her life is not here, nobody pays attention to her and she should pick up a gun and shoot all these people.”

Afghan: Boy suicide bomber kills children in attack on Kabul NATO headquarters
Didn't get he memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: A boy suicide bomber killed at least six people when he blew himself up close to Nato's headquarters in Kabul, police said.

Article On Muslim Brotherhood Website Praises Jihad Against America And The Jews – 'The Descendants Of Apes And Pigs'
Excerpt: In an article published on the occasion of Ramadan on the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) website, MB member Hussein Shehata, a lecturer at Al-Azhar University, praises the jihad war against the Jews – "the descendants of apes and pigs" – in Palestine; against the Americans in Iraq; against the Russians in Chechnya; and against the Muslims' enemies in Kashmir, Bosnia, Eritrea, and Somalia. He adds that the Day of Judgment will arrive when the Muslims defeat the Jews and liberate Jerusalem.

Sudden Jihad Syndrome: Muslim doctor opens fire at Homeowners Association meeting in a church, killing one, critically wounding another
Excerpt: A not-guilty plea was entered by ‘Muslim’ Mahmoud Yousef Hindi, 55, on charges of murder, assault and wanton endangerment in the church shooting. Hindi was ordered held on a $1 million bond. A prosecutor called him “the epitome of danger to the community.

What do Muslims pray for during Ramadan?

"We call upon those who fast... to remember their brothers, those who wage jihad for the sake of Allah: in Palestine, against the Jews, the descendants of apes and pigs; in Iraq, against the Americans; in Bosnia-Herzegovina, against the crusader Serbians; in Chechnya, against the Russians; in Kashmir, against the idolatrous Indians; in Eritrea, against the Zoroastrian Habeshas; in Somalia, against the arrogant Americans; and everywhere in [the lands of] the Islamic ummah, against those who fight the Muslims. "We call on Allah to receive our martyrs' souls, to liberate our prisoners, to rescue those who are arrested for His sake, to accept jihad from those who fast, and to let them conquer their desires and their enemies, and cause them to rejoice in the liberation of Jerusalem." From an article published on the occasion of Ramadan by MB member Hussein Shehata, a lecturer at Al-Azhar University, from the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) website, http://www.memri.org/report/en/0/0/0/0/0/0/6656.htm

Quote
So I became a newspaperman. I hated to do it but I couldn't find honest employment. --Mark Twain

Excerpt: Marshall Teague, who stars in the forthcoming film “Last Ounce of Courage,” defended Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National Convention last week. “The man has turned out some of the greatest projects in the world, and the last thing that they expected was for Clint Eastwood to stand up in front of the RNC and take a stand. Because Hollywood doesn’t,” Teague, who conversed with an empty chair, told The Daily Caller. “They only stand for who’s going to give them their next job. (Teague appeared with Chuck Norris on Huckabee 09/09/12 talking about this new project. --Barb.)

Excerpt: Disappointment. That is a very good word to use. Joint Chiefs Chairman General Martin Dempsey applied it recently. It seems the General, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the senior Officer in our Armed Forces, is “disappointed” that former service members have strongly expressed opinions regarding the conduct of Administration officials, including the President. (This bit of active duty generals sternly rebuking veterans who have organized into political action group has been covered already by some commentators, but the article below does the best job of replying to such generals that I have seen. And the writer doesn't mince words; one of the comments on the blog claimed the writer is a Marine officer, and that wouldn't surprise me at all. What is so ridiculous is a comment about people "using the uniform" for political purposes. Last I checked, none of the veterans in any of the three groups of protestors I know of have appeared anywhere in uniform. Being retired generally means putting the uniform away. What the general is really bitching about is veterans using their status as experienced military people as a base for getting credibility when they make public comments. However, that does come 100% under that whole quaint "Free Speech" thing that we fought for back when, but did not get to enjoy totally while in uniform. The point is made that such comments by a general are in fact examples of using the uniform for political purposes. Oh, some will say the general didn't say anything political, and that's true in terms of direct political commentary; but frowning on vets who are taking a political position implicitly supports whomever they are protesting, and that's a political act. The general is "hung by his own petard", condemned by the very principles he is espousing. A sad commentary on the state of political consciousness and pandering at the uppermost levels of our military. --Del)

Excerpt: In A Nutshell: Corporatocracy Has Replaced Capitalism. (This is all true. We do NOT have capitalism and that is why we are finished, as the article states. However, the article does not detail how the whole scheme of corporatism was sold to us by BOTH parties. It is a complex story and no one knows all the details (just as we don't know who got how much of TARP). However, both parties were involved and show no signs of changing. Initially, the Republicans obstinately refused to allow banks to be regulated, pretending that this would cripple capitalism. That was nonsense and it contributed mightily to this mess. Meanwhile, the Dems contributed their share with the narrative that banks ought to be sharing the wealth, ie, lending to people without money. Oh, they didn't phrase it that way. They called these poor folks "underserved communities" but it was clear to those who populated this target group that minorities were meant. Rumor has it that millions of illegal aliens got home mortgages in the run-up to the subprime crisis. Later, Bush, an ideological hybrid, decided to join the Dems so that he would not be left out when history wrote the glorious account of how wealth redistribution made poor people rich. His HUD site advertises the boondoggle of no-downpayment loans. The last I visited it, it was still up, as a lasting tribute to insanity. In case you can't find it, I have a copy I can send you. So Bush did double duty. He did the Dems' job for him while continuing to hew to the GOP hardline on regulations. To date no politician on the horizon seems either capable of understanding the complexity of this diagnosis (simplified greatly here) or wanting to step out of line with his party and start rectifying the situation. Ron Paul made the right noises at least, but he expended much energy focusing on the gold standard and the Fed, and moreover, was alone, so nothing was done. Can we go into another decade with this same complete intellectual vacuum and survive? Or are we destined to see Post-Collapse America? Only an educated populace can help itself here, and we have a LONG way to go and not much time. --Don Hank)

This is a really well crafted assembly of actual statements by Mr. Obama matched up with later statements and comments on what actually happened. It's a simple, clear, and extremely effective demonstration of all his failures. I wish we could get every American to watch it, but that won't happen. And some of them would reject it anyhow because their minds are made up and nothing will change them. Very sad. --Del

Inside story of Obama’s struggle to keep Congress from controlling outcome of debt ceiling crisis. By Bob Woodward
Excerpt: President Obama summoned the top four congressional leaders to the White House on Saturday morning, July 23, 2011. The night before, House Speaker John A. Boehner had withdrawn from negotiations to raise the $14 trillion federal debt limit and save the government from a catastrophic default. “Nobody wanted to be there,” Boehner later recalled. “The president’s still pissed.”

Obama Knew...He's Through. By Bruce Carroll Jr.
http://www.gaypatriot.net/2012/09/07/obama-knew-hes-through/
Excerpt:
Obama has completely gutted the future of those who believed in him the most in 2008: Young Americans. For most Americans, today’s jobs report was merely bad. For young people, though, the news was just downright awful.

The Enormous Gaping Chasm at the Center of the Democratic National Convention.
http://www.soopermexican.com/2012/09/07/the-enormous-gaping-chasm-at-the-center-of-the-democratic-convention/
Excerpt: But has [Barack Obama] ever personally gone out of his way to help someone? Are Obama’s morality and sympathy always coming out of the wallet of someone else? This is the gaping chasm at the center of the Democratic National Convention, because it is the gaping hole at the center of Barack Obama.

This is the tip of the iceberg in California
Excerpt: A Mexican who was deported decades ago for drug trafficking pleaded guilty this week to living illegally in Escondido under a false identity and fraudulently voting in the 2008 U.S. presidential election, federal authorities said Friday.

Excerpt: This story has not gotten much attention. Surprise. But delegates at the Democrat National Convention were wearing buttons that said the following: Once You Vote Black, You Never Go Back, Obama 2012.

Obama Lies About Mother To Promote Obamacare
Excerpt: Both Barack and Michelle Obama along with vice president Joe Biden shared stories about Obama’s mother’s battle with cancer, from which she died in 1995. However, the versions they tell are vastly different from previous versions, including those of two of Obama’s biographers and Obama himself.

Excerpt: While Democrats have been chiding Mitt Romney to release his tax records, the former governor has released his 2010 and 2011 tax returns. However, a group has now claimed that they have hacked PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and obtained Romney’s tax returns and are holding them ransom for $1 million.

The DNC in Five Numbers. By Guy Benson
Excerpt: Now that the Democratic National Convention is in the rearview mirror, let's evaluate it by the numbers. I believe the conference can be summed up in five:

God, Jerusalem and American Foreign Policy. By Caroline Glick
Excerpt: Throughout his presidency, Barack Obama and his supporters have been dogged by criticism of his position on Israel. From the very outset of his tenure in office, critics and supporters alike have not been able to shake the sense that Obama is deeply hostile to the Jewish state.

Female Advisor to Egyptian President: Girls Not Circumcised “Lacking in Faith”
Excerpt: Earlier this week, Egypt’s Tahrir News conducted an interview with Dr. Amina Kamal, advisor to President Morsi on Women’s Affairs, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice party, and a member of the Constituent Assembly. The discussion about female circumcision, or female genital mutilation, is causing some controversy.

The Audacity Of Cronyism: Jarrett, Plouffe, And Donilon. By Patrick Caddell
Excerpt: It’s hard to know which is worse: the arrogance of the Obama administration in assuming that its White House staffers can get away with anything, or the apathy of the media in not holding those staffers accountable…..Let’s consider the cases of three staffers, all at the top rung of the White House ladder: Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett, Senior Adviser David Plouffe, and National Security Adviser Tom Donilon. Valerie Jarrett has been a mentor and ally of Barack Obama for two decades; by all accounts, she has an unshakable bond not only with him, but also with Michelle Obama….

The Other Power in the West Wing
Worried about the political and legal implications, the chief of staff, William M. Daley, reached out to the proposal’s author, Kathleen Sebelius, the health and human services secretary. …“It was then made clear to me that, no, there were senior White House officials who had been involved and supported this,” said Mr. Daley, who left his post early this year. What he did not realize was that while he was trying to put out what he considered a fire, the person fanning the flames was sitting just one flight up from him: Valerie Jarrett, the Obamas’ first friend, the proposal’s chief patron and a tenacious White House operator who would ultimately outmaneuver not only Mr. Daley but also the vice president in her effort to include the broadest possible contraception coverage in the administration’s health care overhaul.

Democrat Election Fraud in Arkansas is Tip of the Iceberg
Being opposed to vote fraud is racist, I hear. ~Bob. Excerpt: Arkansas State Representative Hudson Hallum, a Democrat, pleaded guilty Wednesday of conspiring to commit election fraud with his dad, a city councilman and a cop. Hallum had won a seat in Arkansas’ 54th district as a result of a special election in May of last year. The seat was vacated because Fred Smith, the representative that held it previously (another Democrat), was convicted of theft.

Excerpt: Before the Democratic Convention started, lots of Democrats freelanced the attention away — sometimes calling various Republicans Nazi-like liars and villains, sometimes flubbing up efforts to explain why we are better off than we were four years ago. Then when it started, there was the embarrassing erasure of “God” and Jerusalem as Israel’s capital from the platform language; then the effort under pressure to reinsert it; then the three voice votes that made it clear why it had been erased in the first place; then the big lie that two-thirds of the hall had voted to change the platform when it was clear that the vote was 50/50.

Excerpt: All politicians lie, at least in the sense of exaggerating their opponents’ lapses and downplaying their own. But there are a few rules of politically lying: the most important being that one cannot insult the intelligence of the listener by saying something that is demonstrably untrue and/or refuted by the speaker’s own mutually contradictory statements. Do that and we enter Baghdad Bob territory.

Pigskin Progressivism. By George Will
Excerpt: With two extravagant entertainments under way, it is instructive to note the connection between the presidential election and the college football season: Barack Obama represents progressivism, a doctrine whose many blemishes on American life include universities as football factories, which progressivism helped to create.

Putin Says Missile Deal Is More Likely With Obama
Because he'll have more flexibility to cave to Russia. ~Bob.

FACT CHECK: Obama and the phantom peace dividend
Excerpt: President Barack Obama laid claim to a peace dividend that doesn't exist when he told the nation he wants to use money saved by ending wars to build highways, schools and bridges.

To Obama, 'Investment' Is Another Word For Crony Capitalism By Sen. Mike Lee
Excerpt: The really remarkable thing about President Obama's rhetoric about the economy in this election season is just how little it has changed since 2010.
Those who expected new ideas from this administration for getting the economy back on track must have been sorely disappointed, as the widely-anticipated "reset" on economic issues has really just been a "repeat."

Mother of Dem convention star Castro called Alamo defenders 'drunks,' 'crooks'
Excerpt: Maria del Rosario Castro, the mother of San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, said in 2010 that she grew up being told the battle was “glorious,” only to learn the so-called heroes were really “a bunch of drunks and crooks and slaveholding imperialists who conquered land that didn’t belong to them.”

Excerpt: The council is designed to facilitate dialogue between Romney and leaders in the black community. In a statement announcing the creation of the council Romney said he was proud to have the support of so many within the black community. "They know all too well that the economic downturn that has continued to hammer our country has been even more devastating for black Americans.

Excerpt: Employees at the venerable Gallup polling firm suggested they felt threatened by Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod when he questioned the methodology of a mid-April poll showing Mitt Romney leading the president – according to internal emails published Thursday.

Dem delegates, leaders struggle to explain floor fight over God, Jerusalem platform change
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/09/06/dem-delegates-steam-over-move-to-restore-god-jerusalem-to-platform/
Excerpt: Democrats are still struggling to come to terms with the brief, but raucous, floor fight that erupted Wednesday at their convention over the restoration of references to God and Jerusalem as Israel's capital to the official platform.

Jobs report is more bad news for Obama. By Aaron Blake
Excerpt: There is very little good news for President Obama in the new August jobs report, despite the fact that the unemployment rate technically fell. The number of jobless American workers decreased from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent in August, according to new figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That might seem good on the surface, but in reality it’s because a huge number of people simply gave up trying to find work and dropped out of the pool of potential workers.

1 comment:

  1. The economic recovery appears to be losing steam, that's for sure. But the answer to the question, "Is the nation better off now than in 2009?" is pretty clear. Yeh, the August job report was bad, and below average. Since the beginning of 2012, the country has added over 100,000 jobs a month (on average, 139,000 jobs per month). The latest numbers are off. But compare: In January 2009, Bush's last month in the White House, the economy lost 600,000 jobs. In 2008, Bush's last year in office, the nation lost 2.6 million jobs, making that the worst year for jobs in America since 1945, the worst in 6 decades, the worst year for jobs since the end of World War II.
