Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for September 11, 2012

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

September 11th is, of course, the 11th anniversary of the largest Islamic terrorist attacks on America and the murder of almost 3,000 people. Most of those who vowed to “never forget” the horrific pictures of people leaping to their deaths have forgotten.

Long SitRep today—lots of solid traffic. I had to go through a lot of e-mail tonight, so please read it!  ~Bob.

Book Recommendation. Preparing for Victory: Thomas Holcomb and the Making of the Modern Marine Corps, 1936-1943. By David J. Ulbrich
I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Ulbrich at the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation dinner in April of 2012, where he received a writing award for this fine history. I was thus looking forward to it, and it did not disappoint. While General Holcomb had a fine combat record in WWI, which gave him credibility for the great service he rendered the Republic in WWII, this is not a combat history. But it is a great story of leadership, political acumen and administrative ability, as the Commandant developed the doctrine and the structure that allowed the Corps to expand so greatly and meet the challenges of a global war. If I have one quibble, it is that Dr. Ulbrich, being I suppose an academic, feels it is necessary to frequently point out that Holcomb’s attitudes towards race were those of his time, when nearly everyone was a racist by today’s standards. Today we are shocked and appalled by racist attitudes except in left wing black leaders, where anti-white racism is considered a virtue. Nevertheless, this fine history fills an important gap in the military history of WWII, and deserves wide reading by Marines, historians and military history buffs.

A Take of Two Jobs Reports
Time makes all the difference. ~Bob

Excerpt: How many times have you heard Barack Obama say that Mitt Romney wants to cut taxes for the rich? He says it in stump speeches. He says it in TV ads. He said it in his acceptance speech the other night at the Democratic convention. But then he said something else. President Obama said that we must get our fiscal house in order; that he was willing to work with Republicans to get that done; and that the road map for starting the process is the Simpson/Bowles commission report. Whoa. What is Simpson/Bowles? For those who haven't been paying attention, Alan Simpson and Erskine Bowles were the two co-chairs of President Obama's debt commission - a bipartisan effort to deal with the long-term deficit. Among other things they called for fundamental tax reform, with a top marginal tax rate of 28%. So what rate is Mitt Romney proposing for the highest income earners? Answer: 28%. (Unfortunately, readers of Dr. Goodman’s blog already know that President Obama’s positions have the consistency, logic and structure of a soup sandwich. But the election will be decided by the uninformed middle, who do not look deeply into issues or read extensively to educate themselves. And as long as the media carry water for Obama and ignores this type of thing, he has the edge. Personally, I think that we are facing fiscal and economic collapse, followed by political and social collapse. If Romney is elected, our situation will be desperate. If Obama is reelected, I think it will be hopeless. ~Bob.)

Worth Reading: Opinion: No call for a ‘sugar high’ stimulus from the Federal Reserve. By Judd Gregg
Excerpt: This is not a nation that lacks in liquidity. It is a nation that lacks in leadership and certainty. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke has made it reasonably clear that he is ready and likely to pursue a new round of quantitative easing. This is the current nomenclature for printing money.

Worth Reading: Playing Now: Hail to Us Chiefs. By Maureen Dowd
Dowd? In the Times? Trouble in La La Land. ~Bob. Excerpt: In his renomination acceptance speech here on Thursday night, he told us that America’s problems were tougher to solve than he had originally thought. And that’s why he has kindly agreed to give us more time. Because, after all, it’s our fault.

25,000 Chicago Teachers Walk Off the Job
Excerpt: This morning, about 350,000 students in Chicago Public Schools will be without teachers. While the 25,000-plus unionized teachers take to the picket lines in a strike over benefits and teacher evaluations, working parents are scrambling to figure out what to do. "We know a strike is really going to be painful. People will be hurt on both sides," Jay Rehak, a union delegate and high school English teacher, told the Chicago Tribune. "But in the end, it's like saying, 'I'll be bloodied and you'll be bloodied, but at least you'll know not to bully me again.'" (Live by the bloated public unions, die by the bloated public unions. The media will spin the final settlement as a “win” for Obot Rahm Emanuel, but watch for full pay for the time on strike to be part of the settlement. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Chicago teachers have the highest average salary of any city at $76,000 a year before benefits. The average family in the city only earns $47,000 a year. Yet the teachers rejected a 16 percent salary increase over four years at a time when most families are not getting any raises or are looking for work.

Chicago Teacher Strike: Who Will Get the Blame?
Excerpt: As hundreds of thousands of frustrated Chicago parents scramble to find babysitters or stay home from work, one wonders whether voters will pin the blame on the unions or their Democratic mayor. If recent events in the similarly blue Rhode Island are any indication, taking on the unions could be a winning strategy for Rahm Emanuel.

Why the Chicago teacher’s strike is bad news for President Obama. By Chris Cillizza
Excerpt: For the first time in nearly three decades, Chicago public school teachers went on strike this morning. At first glance, you might be tempted to think that what happens in Chicago has little to no effect on the politics of Washington and the presidential race. But, you’d be wrong.

Well, no wonder they think they deserve a huge raise! Who knew it was that good? ~Bob.

Debates give Romney, Obama last chance for landing knockout blow
Excerpt: Three looming debates represent the last, best chance for President Obama or Mitt Romney to force a decisive moment in the presidential race. The Romney team will be especially eager to maximize the opportunity, in light of several polls showing that Obama has widened his previously small lead since last week’s Democratic National Convention.

Obama outraised Romney $114 million to $111.6 million in August. By Aaron Blake
Excerpt: Obama’s campaign announced this morning that he raised $114 million, while Romney’s announced that it raised $111.6 million. For Obama, the haul is a significant uptick from the $75 million it raised the previous month. For Romney, it’s more than he has raised in any previous month and the third-straight month he raised at least $100 million.

A Summing-Up. By Burt Prelutsky
Excerpt: With the Democratic convention wrapped up, I find myself wondering if Timothy Cardinal Doyle finds microphones and TV cameras as irresistible as moths find burning candles. I mean, this was an event at which the assembly clearly voiced its disapproval of putting “God” back in the Party platform. In addition, on the same night that Cardinal Doyle gave the benediction, Caroline Kennedy, after identifying herself as a Catholic, gave her unwavering support to abortion, and Barack Obama, who remains one of the few people who ever voted in favor of partial-birth abortions, accepted his party’s nomination.

White House Will Get Around to Sequestration Report Sometime This Week
Excerpt: “It is clear that something has to be done to rein in spending and get our economy up and running again, but blindly gutting the military is not a responsible answer to solving our debt crisis,” said Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio). “I had hoped that the administration would comply with the bipartisan Sequestration Transparency Act and outline exactly how these sequester defense cuts would be implemented. Instead, they have ignored not only the deadline but also the wishes of the American people who are relying on Washington to protect their national security and get the economy back on the path to prosperity.”

The Russian Boot. By Michael Ledeen
Excerpt: Over here, we’ve got Russian submarines in the Gulf of Mexico and Russian bombers in our Pacific air space. And a fully funded program to test our missile defense system is in the gutting room of this administration. The estimable Chet Nagle tells us to be very afraid, and he doesn’t scare easily…Meanwhile, we have President Obama pretending he doesn’t really want to cut our military strength (when he proudly announced the cuts at year’s start, describing it as part of a new post-long-war strategy).

‘Operation Demoralize Is Working Just as Planned.’ By Ed Driscoll http://pjmedia.com/eddriscoll/2012/09/09/operation-demoralize-is-working-just-as-planned/
Excerpt: So if you’re feeling nervy, irritable, depressed and/or tired of life by the polls this weekend, well, that’s just how the MSM wants you to feel right now.

Now that the U.S. Is an Islamic State…Obama has dealt a huge setback to any effort to compel Pakistan to drop its blasphemy laws. By Robert Spencer
Excerpt: A bipartisan group of six senators recently wrote to Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, asking that he free Rimsha Masih, the eleven-year-old girl who was being held on blasphemy charges and is still under serious threat of mob violence and resumed prosecution even though she has been released on bail. The letter is a welcome indication that the world is finally noticing Pakistan’s blasphemy laws — but working at cross purposes with those who are trying to get Pakistan to scrap these laws is none other than Barack Obama, who is now doing nothing less than effectively enforcing them upon the U.S. military.

Retired Marine running for Congress
As a retired U.S. Marine who served in Iraq in 2007, I will not tolerate this type of blatant disrespect for America. That's why I'm challenging Keith Ellison and his despicable agenda. It's going to be an uphill battle, but with 21 years in the Marine Corps under my belt, I'm up for the challenge. Please stand with me by making a contribution to my campaign today.

Up Next for Team Obama? Racial Quotas for School Discipline. Not satire: if too many minority students are getting detentions, the Justice Department may come knocking. By Mike McDaniel
Excerpt: There is much speculation regarding President Barack Obama’s intentions for America should he no longer need to hide his desires from an electorate. Occasionally, he and other members of his administration let slip glimpses of their preferred utopian future, as they have recently done with education policy. If their desires are implemented, the consequences for American education — and society — will be profound and uniquely destructive.

A Media Personality, Suffering a Blow to His Image, Ponders a Lesson. By Christine Haughney
Excerpt: When Lynda and Stewart Resnick, the Beverly Hills entrepreneurs who founded POM Wonderful, wanted to host a dinner at their Aspen home in 2006 to talk about the Iraq war, they assembled a list of 22 A-list guests, including Queen Noor of Jordan, George Soros, the financier, and Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California. Leading the list of journalists was one of their favorite guests: Fareed Zakaria, the Indian-born Harvard Ph.D and foreign-policy specialist who had turned himself into an unlikely media star. (Per article, Zakaria “established his public reputation with a cover article for Newsweek in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks titled ‘Why They Hate Us.’ ” Also, noted author that O read on his vacation, “The Post-American World.” The article he copied—on gun control issues. This issue has not gone away. What was it those Tea Partiers craved? God and guns? --Barb)

Stories I'd Like to See: Fareed Zakaria's "mistake." By Steven Brill
Excerpt: Suppose I steal my neighbor Jill's flat-screen television and install it in my living room. Jill or one of her friends who knows about Jill's missing television comes over to my house a few days later, notices the television and asks, "Hey, isn't that Jill's television?" I immediately confess. "Yes, it is,"

Fareed Zakaria reinstated at CNN, Time after suspension
Excerpt: Time magazine and CNN said Thursday that they were reinstating journalist Fareed Zakaria after suspending him last week for plagiarism. Time said in a statement that it believed Zakaria made an “unintentional error” in what was an “isolated incident” of plagiarism, after his Aug. 20 Time column on gun control took passages from an article in the New Yorker. (Article published 08/17/12 re: column 08/20/12…??? –Barb. The usual double standard for leftists. ~Bob.)

Quotes from The Patriot Post
Tomorrow we solemnly mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, when 2,996 innocents, mostly American citizens, were murdered by Islamic fascists. In keeping with the presidential proclamation designating Sept. 11 of each year as Patriot Day, all flags should be flown at half-staff in memory of those who lost their lives that day.

"Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition." --Thomas Jefferson

Worth Reading: Bleak Jobs Report Perfect End Note to DNC: It's the Democrats’ economy. By Arnold Ahlert
Excerpt: No doubt many of the media outlets determined to get this president re-elected will tout the fact that the unemployment rate dropped from 8.3 percent to 8.1 percent, even as they bury the reason why: 368,000 Americans simply gave up looking for work. That exodus dropped the labor force participation rate to 63.5 percent, a 31-year low. For perspective's sake, if the number of people in labor force had remained the same as last month, the unemployment rate would be 8.4 percent. If the labor force were as large as it was when Obama took office in 2009, the unemployment rate would be a staggering 11.2 percent.

History Books can Explain the Recent Record Low of Arctic Sea Ice. By Charles Kennedy |
Excerpt: Recent headlines have referred to the fact that the arctic ice has melted to a record low and many are using this as evidence to support the theory of global warming. … His study of the 33 years of records showed that there was no change in the amount of Arctic sea ice until the late 1990’s and this lends itself to support a different theory, that the sea ice is melting at the moment because the North Atlantic Ocean is in the warming phase of its long term cooling and warming cycle known as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO). (Think I’ll get a bumper sticker that says, “Global Warming Infidel.” ~Bob.)

Satire: The First Term of Obama Has Been a Failure ... of America. By Frank J. Fleming
If you don’t get satire, better skip this. ~Bob. Excerpt: The first term of the Obama administration has been a complete failure -- a complete failure of Americans to deserve the great president they elected. President Obama has done everything for you. He spent billions to create you dozens of new green jobs. He's given you amazing new health care laws. He even wore a flag pin a couple of times, though that had to disgust him. And his poor wife has done all she can to put up with the sight of your fat children waddling around everywhere. And yet you shout and shake your fat fists at him like he's done something wrong.

Insight: GM's Volt: The ugly math of low sales, high costs
Excerpt: General Motors Co sold a record number of Chevrolet Volt sedans in August — but that probably isn't a good thing for the automaker's bottom line. Nearly two years after the introduction of the path-breaking plug-in hybrid, GM is still losing as much as $49,000 on each Volt it builds, according to estimates provided to Reuters by industry analysts and manufacturing experts. (Actually, taxpayers are losing the $49k per car, but it bought Obama a lot of greenie votes. ~Bob.)

'2016: Obama's America' Now No. 2 Ever in Political Documentary Genre. By Tom Blumer
Excerpt: Including BoxOfficeMojo.com's weekend estimates, "2016: Obama's America," which grossed over $3.2 million during that time, has now reached Number 2 on the all-time list in the Political Documentary category, a genre which apparently didn't arise until the early 1980s.

India cartoonist Aseem Trivedi's arrest sparks outrage
Excerpt: Aseem Trivedi appeared in court in Mumbai and was remanded in custody until 24 September for cartoons allegedly mocking the constitution. Mr Trivedi is demanding the charges be dropped. Many Indians see his arrest as an attack on freedom of expression.

Makhlouf was a high-ranking member of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (Aqim), accused of abducting and killing foreigners across the Sahara Desert.

French central bank confirms 0.1% contraction in Q3
Excerpt: France's economy is set to contract by 0.1 percent in the third quarter, the central bank confirmed Monday, in a forecast of further trouble for the eurozone's second-biggest economy. If confirmed, it would be France's first contraction since it came out of recession in 2009 and follows zero growth for the past three quarters.

Media Blackout: GAO Says Obama’s Welfare Waivers Illegal. By Warner Todd Huston
Excerpt: On Sept. 4, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) made a startling assertion saying that Obama circumvented the law when he summarily waived the work requirements in the welfare law. Perhaps not as shocking, few news outlets seem interested in the story. In its Sept. 4 letter, the GAO found that Health and Human Services (HHS) should have formally submitted a letter of its intent to make the changes to Congress and the Comptroller General before any waivers can be legally issued.

Marshall Teague, ‘Last Ounce of Courage.’ By Ginni Thomas
Excerpt: Marshall Teague is the star of the forthcoming film, “Last Ounce of Courage,” coming to theaters on Sept. 14. In the movie, Teague plays a small-town mayor who is also the father of a fallen soldier. At its essence, the film is an emotional, inspirational tale about freedom being taken away from us and the importance of standing up for what you believe in.

You gotta love the looks the bikers are exchanging behind Biden’s back. ~Bob.

Worth Reading: Inside story of Obama’s struggle to keep Congress from controlling outcome of debt ceiling crisis. By Bob Woodward
Excerpt: “Mr. President, I am sorry — with all due respect — that we are in this situation that we’re in, but we got handed this football on Friday night. And I didn’t create this situation. The first thing that baffles me is, from my private-sector experience, the first rule that I’ve always been taught is to have a Plan B. And it is really disheartening that you, that this White House did not have a Plan B.” Several jaws dropped as the Hill staffer blasted the president to his face.

O’s stimulus & The rotten Jobs news. By Nicole Gelinas
Excerpt: Friday’s job report was a post-convention headache for President Obama. But it’s also a hangover from early in his term: He could’ve avoided this problem had he thought harder about stimulus three years ago. Private companies added only 103,000 jobs in August; they’d need to create more than three times that for a full year to replace the 4.2 million-plus jobs that America is still missing from the recession. And this isn’t a one-month slowdown.

"Osama's Dead, GM's Alive!"…So What?
Excerpt: Vice President Joe Biden's new favorite mantra is "Osama's Dead, GM's Alive!". Let's examine the value of those two concepts.

Behind the Unemployment Numbers: It’s Worse than You Can Imagine. Former Obama supporter Mort Zuckerman writing in the Wall Street Journal
Excerpt: We are still almost five million payrolls shy of where we were at the end of 2007, when the recession began. Think about that when you hear the Obama administration’s talk of an economic recovery. The key indicator of our employment health, in all the statistics, is what the government calls U-6.

In Top Journal, Obamacare Boosters Push ‘Global Spending Target.’ Which is the very definition of "rationing," the word they aren't supposed to say. By Paul Hsieh
Excerpt: Free-market economists have long known that “controls breed controls.” In health care, leading Obamacare supporters are now proposing unprecedented new government controls over all medical spending — private as well as public — to “solve” problems caused by prior controls. Welcome to ObamaCare 2.0.

God, the Afterthought. By David P. Goldman http://pjmedia.com/spengler/2012/09/06/god-the-afterthought/
Excerpt: Named by Newsweek the most influential American rabbi, Wolpe beamed empathy and gestured eloquently to the vacant stadium. After the last-minute vote by acclamation to return God to the party platform, Wolpe’s benediction had deep symbolic overtones. Clint Eastwood talked to an empty chair, while Wolpe talked to ten thousand empty chairs.

Worth Reading: Imagining a Post-Israel Middle East. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Jordan and Lebanon aren’t the best places on earth, or even in the Middle East, but they’re marginally functional compared to the Palestinian Authority, a corrupt welfare state funded by the US and EU and run by men with Soviet doctorates in revisionist history and no experience doing anything but putting out press releases after their latest terrorist attack. (Nothing would make non-Jewish Progressives feel warm and fuzzy like a new holocaust. Some Jews too would say they deserved to be put in the boxcars. ~Bob.)

The Coveted Russian Dictator Endorsement: Putin Picks Obama. Looking forward to that second term "flexibility" Obama promised. By Kim Zigfeld
Excerpt: However, Putin’s delight with Obama is hard to understand in light of his subsequent comment, apparently directed at Obama: “Some people want to use militants from al-Qaeda or some other organizations with equally radical views to accomplish their goals in Syria.” He called this policy “dangerous and very short-sighted.” He said that Americans were likewise short-sighted when they gave support to the rebels in Afghanistan against the forces of the USSR, thus creating al-Qaeda only to see it turn against them.

Worth Reading: Relax: Associated Press says the jihad is over
Excerpt: Naser Abdo, the would-be second Fort Hood jihad mass murderer; Khalid Aldawsari, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Lubbock, Texas; Muhammad Hussain, the would-be jihad bomber in Baltimore; Mohamed Mohamud, the would-be jihad bomber in Portland; Faisal Shahzad, the would-be Times Square jihad mass-murderer; Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, the Arkansas military recruiting station jihad murderer; Naveed Haq, the jihad mass murderer at the Jewish Community Center in Seattle; Mohammed Reza Taheri-Azar, the would-be jihad mass murderer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Ahmed Ferhani and Mohamed Mamdouh, who hatched a jihad plot to blow up a Manhattan synagogue; Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the would-be Christmas airplane jihad bomber; and many others like them who have plotted and/or committed mass murder in the name of Islam and are motivated by its texts and teachings, all in the U.S. in the last couple of years, would beg to differ. (The jihad will be over when we are all dead, or we are all Muslim, or the Islamic Supremacists are all dead, or the Sun runs out of hydrogen. And if everyone is Muslim, there would still be Allahmurders among Muslims, just as now. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: A WA couple will face court early next month after it was alleged they took a baby girl overseas with the intention of having the child undergo genital mutilation.

Somali Christians Fear Militant Islam at Home and Abroad. By Wasul Chemosi
Excerpt: Al Shabab, an Al Qaeda-linked terror group in Somalia, has sought to rid the region of Christians and is specifically targeting Christian converts from Islam. Many Somali Christians, having fled persecution in their homeland, have found little security in neighbouring East African countries. Even in the Christian-majority country of Kenya, radical Islam is steadily gaining numbers and influence.

CRSS report: 52 murdered in two decades over blasphemy: Chairman of the Ulema Council alleges Rimsha accused in order to force Christians out. By Umer Nangiana
Lots of folks didn’t get the “Islam is a Religion of Peace” memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Ever since the introduction of stringent amendments in blasphemy laws under General Ziaul Haq’s rule, more people suffered from communal clashes than ever in the sub-continent. Since 1990 alone, fifty-two people have been extra-judicially murdered on charges of blasphemy.

UK: Muslim clerics agreeing to marry girls as young as 12, as long as parents don't tell anyone
Excerpt: As we have seen again and again, wherever Islamic law and Western laws conflict, it is Western laws that must give way. Child marriage is rampant among those who believe that Muhammad is the supreme example of conduct (cf. Qur'an 33:21), but Islamic spokesmen in the West frequently assert that it is a cultural phenomenon that has nothing to do with Islam. They did not, however, tell the mullahs.

Worth Reading: Obama’s Worship Leader #VetObama. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: Consider this — Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker wrote a lengthy profile of Michele Bachmann’s religious views and, in the process, got major portions of Bachmann’s theology flat out wrong. She’s Lutheran. He painted her to be part of a fringe cult, in the process misdefining basic theological terms. Then there was Bill Keller of the New York Times. He thinks candidates for President should be grilled on their religion. Except, he’s only doing this now, after Barack Obama got elected President. The Huffington Post declares Paul Ryan has, of all things, a Catholic problem. Now, NBC News has run a special introducing Americans to Mormons.

No, Michelle, The President Is Not Just Like Me
Excerpt: America needs a good president. And the bottom line is your husband, Barack Obama, despite whatever redeeming personal qualities, has not been - by any standard of empirical, objective, or subjective assessment - a good president.

Calling The Election Today. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: But let’s not kid ourselves — this spin has everything to do with Friday’s economic report. The press is trying to get everyone to forget that there are more men out of work than at any time in American history and 4.2 million women out of work since Barack Obama took office. This is the politics of distraction aided by just a handful of tracking polls.

U.S. and Muslim Brotherhood-led Egypt Conducting Joint Military Exercises
Excerpt: Just days after a report that the U.S. was sharply cutting its participation in a military exercise scheduled with Israel, U.S. planes landed in Egypt Tuesday for a joint exercise, the first since the fall of Hosni Mubarak. Code-named “Eagle Arena 2012,” the exercise will include air and naval forays by US and Egyptian planes and boats, over the country, Sinai, and the Red Sea. (In your eye, Jews! ~Bob.)

Why is Obama skipping more than half of his daily intelligence meetings? By Marc A. Thiessen
President Obama is touting his foreign policy experience on the campaign trail, but startling new statistics suggest that national security has not necessarily been the personal priority the president makes it out to be. Gawker wants us to 'sympathize' with pedophiles. By Matt Vespa
Excerpt: Cord Jefferson’s September 7 column on Gawker should churn your stomach. He wrote about how some consider pedophilia a sexual orientation and how it deserves public sympathy. Worse Than Solyndra: Obama Admin Buying Maine Senate Seat with Crony Energy Loans
Excerpt: Here’s the short story: Angus King, former governor of Maine, Obama supporter, and front-running independent Senate candidate, owned a wind company. Obama’s Department of Energy handed over a deeply questionable $102 million loan to that company. It appears that as that company was coming under investigation, King quickly divested himself of his interests, hoping he was doing so just in time to escape scrutiny, and as he was preparing to announce his candidacy for Senate.

Applying the “Fact Check” Hit Squad’s Romney-Ryan Rules to the DNC
Excerpt: The barrage of attacks on Romney-Ryan expose the truth: “Fact-checking” today is nothing more than the voice of the counter-argument, the scramble for unflattering context, alleged hypocrisy, contradiction, or distraction. Concrete “facts” are often an afterthought, and sometimes even need contradicting in the service of higher “truth.”
