Worth Reading Jihad and other Political News and Opinion

Worth Reading: THANKS - GIVINGS COURTESY OF MARINES. By Col Andy Weddington, USMC (Ret)

Pretend War: Gaia Beats Mars: How Our Military Are Being Turned Into Green Eco-Wussies. By James Delingpole
Excerpt: Islamic State earns about $500 million a year from its oil revenues. But according to former CIA director Mike Morrell, US fighter aircraft have been ordered not to bomb their oil wells in case they cause “environmental damage.” Yes. That makes sense. Clearly one of the main priorities in any war of attrition should be to do everything possible to protect your enemies’ lives, wellbeing and resources. Some might argue that a merciless death cult which now controls swathes of Iraq and Syria and a population of around 10 million, which makes $2 billion a year from oil and extortion, which rapes and enslaves girls as young as eight, tortures and kills prisoners, chucks gay men off buildings, and is committed to the destruction of Western civilisation, ought not to be treated with kid gloves. (Heaven help us, it will take years starting in 2017 to begin to repair the damage done so deeply under Obama. --Del)

UC Merced mourns, sympathizes with jihad stabber Faisal Mohammad. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.Org
Excerpt: Despite the fact that Mohammad “was found to have an image of the ISIS flag, a handwritten manifesto with instructions on how to behead someone, and reminders to pray to Allah,” everyone who participated was sure that his stabbings had something to do with “images of masculinity” and nothing to do with Islam, and that only “Islamophobes” thought otherwise. This is no surprise. The University of California Merced is no different from any other campus all over the country: full of indoctrinated bots who have been thoroughly imbued with the notion that when Islamic jihadists attack us, it is our fault.

Tel Aviv: Muslim stabs two Jews to death, RT crew barricades in office. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.Org
Excerpt: The hideously pro-jihad RT has been busy cheering on the “Palestinian” “protesters” — until, that is, one of them was running loose in their building. They’ll resume their cheerleading for the “Palestinian” jihad right after this break.

Islamic State Equips ‘Lone Wolves’ in U.S. With How-To Manual
Excerpt: Obama likes to call these terrorists ‘Lone Wolves’ so that he can say they aren’t linked to Islamic State. Check it out: Against a backdrop of heightened security and of resistance to a potential massive influx of Muslim refugees into the United States, ISIS has issued guidance in a little-noticed manual for the so-called “lone wolves” who have become a major concern of U.S. law-enforcement officials.

Chris Kyle’s Iraqi Interpreter Goes Beast Mode Over Obama’s Handling of Syrian Refugees
Here's a great point, the people who we really need to bring in as refugees.  Oddly enough, it's not hard to figure out which people have the most legitimate fears for their safety and would be happy to become Americans.  Start with those who have helped us in the past, and then move on to the most persecuted subgroups, like say, Christians.  Just a thought....Del

Calais Trucker’s Close Brush With Death as Migrants Hurl WOODEN STAKE Through Cab Window
Excerpt: A Czech truck driver passing through Calais has narrowly avoided being killed by migrants when they hurled a long wooden stake through the window of his cab before mobbing his vehicle. ...But the attack, which took place on Wednesday night, has taken its toll on the driver’s career, as the frightening experience has left him unwilling to make the cross-channel journey again. His boss has laid the blame for the attack at the feet of the European Union (EU), as he believes it’s not within the power of any one country to stem the tide of the migrant flow while tied into the wider union. (Must've been one of those 3-year-olds or a woman....These refugee "folks" are just like the Pilgrims, if you believe what we're told by the regime. --Barb)

Putin: Turkish leadership purposefully supports Islamization of country
Excerpt: Putin has also accused Erdogan of being an “accomplice of terrorists.” Hard to deny that. Turkey’s rapid re-Islamization under Erdogan has been documented by Robert Spencer here at Jihad Watch for a decade or more now. For Putin to target Turkey’s Islamist shift demonstrates yet again the Russian leader’s clarity and toughness, as juxtaposed with the West’s politically correct myopia and ineptitude. Think back to June 2013, when Putin blasted Obama and Cameron for supporting so-called “moderates” in Syria, who were shown on video eating the organs of their slain enemies. Or his equally strong rejection of Western military intervention in Syria. Or his call to the West to unite in defending persecuted Christians in the Middle East and Africa. And of course his recent UN address, when he castigated the Western leaders responsible for the rise of ISIS and the refugee crisis, shaming them with the question, “Do you realize what you have done?”

Worth Reading: Research: Islam really is the world’s most violent religion. BY NICOLAI SENNELS
Excerpt: Together with a number of research assistants, the Danish linguist Tina Magaard spent three years examining the texts of the ten largest religions. The purpose was to investigate whether any of the religions incite violence. The conclusion was clear: “The texts of Islam are clearly distinct from the other religions texts as they, to a higher degree, call for violence and aggression against followers of other faiths. There are also direct incitements to terror. … Moreover, in the Qur’an there are hundreds of invitations to fight against people of other faiths.” ... Islam is not only the world’s most violent religion in writing. A huge study, based on in-depth interviews with 45,000 subjects, confirms that it is also the world’s most violent religion in practice

Our NATO Ally: Report: Turkey collaborating with the Islamic State. BY RALPH SIDWAY
Excerpt: This damning report on rapidly re-islamizing Turkey’s support for the Islamic State from last year is updated with fresh documentation, corroborating Russian President Vladimir Putin’s charge that Turkey is an “accomplice to terrorists.” Putin and French President Hollande just conducted a meeting in Moscow, indicating Russia and France will cooperate more closely in targeting ISIS’ oil transport lines, one of the key components of Turkey’s aid to the Islamic State, as detailed below.

Interesting: Donald Trump talked politics with Bill Clinton weeks before launching 2016 bid
Excerpt: Four Trump allies and one Clinton associate familiar with the exchange said that Clinton encouraged Trump’s efforts to play a larger role in the Republican Party and offered his own views of the political landscape. (Doubtless Slick Willie had the best interests of the GOP at heart. ~Bob)

Your Complete Guide to the Climate Debate: At the Paris conference, expect an agreement that is sufficiently vague and noncommittal for all countries to claim victory. By Matt Ridley And Benny Peiser
Excerpt: In February President Obama said, a little carelessly, that climate change is a greater threat than terrorism. Next week he will be in Paris, a city terrorized yet again by mass murderers, for a summit with other world leaders on climate change, not terrorism. What precisely makes these world leaders so convinced that climate change is a more urgent and massive threat than the incessant rampages of Islamist violence? (And the next big thing in Paris will be the dog and pony show about Climate Change that is the one thing in the world that causes Mr. Obama to lose sleep at night.  Or at least bothers him enough to talk about.  This article covers it all nicely. --Del)

'Scientists Agree World Is Colder,' New York Times Declared in 1961

Interesting: Fossilized Homo erectus skull found in China
Excerpt: A group of scientists in eastern China's Anhui province recently unearthed a fossilized skull belonging to Homo erectus. The well preserved skull was found at the fossil-rich Hualongdong archaeological site. Researchers have not yet had the chance to precisely date the skull, but believe it is between 150,000 and 412,000 years old. (Just another early human, ho-hum.  But, notice they are genus Homo.  Also, the mention of tools.  That implies learned behaviors and skills, which in turn implies a language in which to teach those skills.  Further, the large number of specimens could imply social organization, perhaps of a religious nature.  If they had language , social organization, and tools, other than body type, how are they different from us?  At some point, the scholars are going to have to agree "humans" have had some sort of civilization for far longer than they currently admit.  --Ron)

Worth Reading: American Universities Begin to Implode. By Dennis Prager
Excerpt: For over half a century, American universities, with few exceptions, have ceased teaching and begun indoctrinating. In the last few weeks, this downhill spiral has accelerated. The university is now a caricature of an educational institution. It is difficult to come up with an idea or policy that is more absurd than the ideas and policies that now dominate American campuses.

Worth Reading: America’s higher education brought low. By George F. Will
Excerpt: Give thanks this day for some indirect blessings of liberty, including the behavior-beyond-satire of what are generously called institutions of higher education. People who are imprecisely called educators have taught, by their negative examples, what intelligence is not. Melissa Click is the University of Missouri academic who shouted “I need some muscle over here” to prevent a photojournalist from informing the public about a public demonstration intended to influence the public. Click’s academic credentials include a University of Massachusetts doctoral dissertation titled “It’s ‘a good thing’: The Commodification of Femininity, Affluence, and Whiteness in the Martha Stewart Phenomenon.” Her curriculum vitae says she has a graduate certificate in “advanced feminist studies.” Advanced. The best kind.

Closed Minds on Campus
http://www.wsj.com/articles/closed-minds-on-campus-1448634626
Excerpt: From the aggrieved pitch of recent student protests against racism, the naive observer might be surprised that we are now 50 years past the 1960s. Today’s protesters have not endured the open hostility and dismissal that James Meredith did as the first African-American student at Ole Miss in 1962, when white students turned their backs on him in the cafeteria and bounced a basketball in the room over his at all hours of the night. As a black college student in the early 1980s, my experience felt different enough from his that it never occurred to me to characterize my school, Rutgers University, as a “racist campus.”

Politico just handed Republicans a ‘liberal media’ talking point. By Callum Borchers. Washington Post

Union bosses smear teachers in Supreme Court case. By Jason Hart
Excerpt: America’s most powerful union bosses are running a national smear campaign against 10 workers who fund their paychecks. California teacher Rebecca Friedrichs and nine of her fellow educators are being vilified by executives of the country’s largest labor unions — including the National Education Association and American Federation of Teachers. Using money taken from workers’ paychecks, union bosses are portraying Friedrichs and her peers as allies of evil corporations and white supremacists.

Maine Doubles Down on Welfare Reform Despite Media Backlash. By Madaline Donnelly
Excerpt: Mary Mayhew, commissioner of Maine’s Department of Health and Human Services, knows her politics aren’t always popular. “I can’t stress enough what an attack campaign it has been from the media for four and a half years,” Mayhew said Thursday at an anti-poverty forum in Washington, D.C., hosted by The Heritage Foundation. Then there are the more personalized critiques: “There is a poet, or he calls himself a poet, and he sends me poems all the time,” she added. “They are not nice poems.” (As it happens, on Thanksgiving we met a young woman who got her degree in Sociology up in Boston, and did here thesis on welfare practice in the USA.  I asked her what the conclusions were in the thesis, and her answer was the need for major reform, since the system as presently existing is inefficient, subject to abuse, and too often becomes a permanent handout instead of a temporary hand up. Now up in Maine they have been working on this, and I have no doubt there's a strong backlash, maybe even vicious in spots.  But the idea should never be to just make social assistance a way of life that puts everyone on a permanent client basis.  Yes, some people have such problems that they do need unending aid, but as much as possible we should be encouraging people to start making good decisions and progress into taking care of themselves. I hope this works out well in Maine, and maybe becomes a model for others. --Del)

Obama Signs Defense Bill, Schemes To Sneak Around Provisions Blocking Gitmo Closure
Excerpt: President Barack Obama thinks he has figured out a way to sign the annual defense budget bill, while still allowing some amount of room to evade provisions blocking the transfer of detainees to the United States.  After he signed the $607 billion bill Wednesday, which he previously vetoed, Obama issued a statement saying the ban on transferring detainees to U.S. soil either for trial or detention blocks the push to close the facility, which in turn impedes counterterrorism, The Wall Street Journal reports.  Obama said in a statement he is “deeply disappointed that the Congress has again failed to take productive action toward closing the detention facility at Guantanamo.” (Guess vetoing funding for defense of the USA in WWIII wouldn't be such a good legacy....but continue to tear it down from the inside out, as Lincoln suggested it could be done. --Barb)

Joseph Stalin's deadly railway to nowhere

No Place for Amateurs
Excerpt: It's time to tell the plain truth: Donald Trump and Ben Carson are not qualified to be president. This was obvious long before the terrorist attacks in Paris focused attention on the president's role as commander in chief. After Paris, Republican voters who have been enticed by the two outsiders should now understand that the White House is no place for amateurs. Whether they will recognize this verity, however, is an open question.

Russia's New Naval Ambitions

Obama’s Border Rules Are Accelerating Syria-Like Migration from Central America
Mass-migration from violent Central American countries into the United States is surging after a dip in late 2014, following President Barack Obama’s agreement to shut down detention-centers for illegal immigrants, says a new report in the New York Times. “I’m sure some information has filtered down to those countries that maybe they have some opportunities with respect to our inability to detain families and kids,” Raul Ortiz, the Border Patrol’s acting chief in the Rio Grande Valley sector, told the New York Times’ Julia Preston. “Family members that are already here are saying, now is potentially a pretty good time to come to the U.S.,” he said. (Those from ME and ISIS have this figured. --Barb)

Japan’s crack submarine fleet
Excerpt: China has lately been resorting to defiant and audacious acts like claiming its territorial rights over waters around artificial island it has built in the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea and unilaterally designating an air defense identification zone in the East China Sea. While these acts are visible to all, the real front battle line lies deep in the sea where submarines are principal players. This article attempts to provide in-depth descriptions of the real picture of submarines of the Maritime Self-Defense Force and their roles, as little has so far been made known about them. (This is a super interesting story that I never had any idea of.  Japan has been so antimilitary for so long that the idea of their having a super competent submarine force was a total shock to me.  But hey, this could be a really good thing. --Del)

Interesting: China Tests New Hypersonic Weapon
Excerpt: The gliding phase enables the HGV not only to maneuver aerodynamically – performing evasive actions and evading interception – but also extends the range of the missile. (...) [U]nlike conventional reentry vehicles, which descend through the atmosphere on a predictable ballistic trajectory, hypersonic glider vehicles are almost impossible to intercept by conventional missile defense systems which track incoming objects via satellite sensors and ground and sea radar. (In other words, because they are both highly maneuverable and extremely fast, no currently available detection system can predict where they will be in time to shoot them down. Put a small–or not so small–nuke aboard and terrorize any naval or land force. This is the 6th test flight we know of.  Here's a related article from a previous test. http://thediplomat.com/2015/06/will-this-chinese-weapon-be-able-to-sink-an-aircraft-carrier/  Scary.  --Ron P.)

Excerpt:  Savings, what savings? That was the first thought that came to mind upon reading the recent Los Angeles Times editorial musing about the “savings” that supposedly will follow on the heels of Prop 47 and how these “savings” should be spent. The Times editorial perfectly captured the naiveté of the Editorial writers, and their complete lack of understanding of criminals and the criminal justice system. There are no “savings.” Instead, all Prop 47 did was shift the costs and pass the buck. ... Marc Debbaudt is President of the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys. He can be contacted atmdebbaudt@laadda.com. The view and opinions expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of ADDA, which represents nearly 1,000 Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys. (Wow, this DA pulls no punches in his dissection of this piece of legislation.  I wonder how far this will go in the minds of voters. --Del)

In 2017, Americans Might Celebrate Thanksgiving With Haggis
Excerpt: Rejoice, lovers of meat and adventure. Or give thanks, as it were. In two years, you may very well be able to enjoy a spot of Scottish lamb with your American turkey. And with that lamb, all that comes with it — including, even, the legendary Scotch haggis. Earlier this month, Richard Lochhead, a member of the Scottish Parliament and the cabinet secretary of Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment, led a delegation of diplomats and businessmen on a mission to promote Scottish cheeses, meats and, of course, Scotch, to the East Coast. The export of Scotland’s famous lamb to a nation of 10 million self-identified “Scots” was, however, at the top of the agenda. (Works for me. And we need Orkney Cheese here. ~Bob)
