I am not a Hot-House
Flower
Robert A. Hall
I am not a hot-house flower
Sheltered from all care,
Protected from the wide, wide world,
And all that lurks out there.
I am not a Tinker Bell
Who's never been so bold
As have a thought that's contrary
To all that I've been told.
I am not a sweet snowflake
Afraid to hear a word
That disagrees with all my peers
And everything I've heard.
I am not a hot-house flower
Kept safe from every fear
And if you say things I don't like,
I'll cover up my ears!
