Merry Christmas From Madison, WI

Worth Reading: A Christmas Eve Stop For "Santa." By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Mr. President, give America a Christmas present - show us you give a damn about our people. Return a 'Good American Boy' - a U. S. Marine who served honorably - to his family, friends, and country.

Obama's Position is that the GOP must give him a 100% of what he wants, no compromise, or he will let the country go over the fiscal cliff because the media will pin the blame on Republicans. His talk about Republicans wanting to get concessions just because it's him could equally have applied to him. A fair media would point that out. But we don't have one. They are as culpable in the coming collapse as the politicians. ~Bob

Benghazi Report Results In 3 State Department Resignations: Official
Before getting giddy that HuffPo is carrying this story, I want to point out the ENTIRE article consists of FOUR sentences, too short to excerpt without risking violating “fair use” guidelines. They must feel they have to cover it because it’s news, but covering for O is still their highest priority. Liberal Professor Wants NRA President’s “Head on a Stick”
http://politicaloutcast.com/2012/12/liberal-professor-wants-nra-presidents-head-on-a-stick/
Excerpt: A professor of history at the University of Rhode Island tweeted that he wanted the NRA president’s “head on a stick.” After people accused Professor Erik Loomis of wanting to assassinate LePierre, the head of the NRA, he clarified, saying that it was only a metaphor. (Kind of like Sarah Palin “targeting” Democrats for political defeat. The left was entirely cool with that metaphor, if I recall. ~Bob.)

Press TV's Obscene Anti-Semitism
Excerpt: Iran's Press TV scored an international scoop Tuesday. It turns out, it reports, the massacre of 20 schoolchildren and six of their teachers and administrators was not the work of a troubled loner. Rather, it was Israeli death squads exacting vengeance over a recent United Nations General Assembly vote granting Palestine nonmember observer status. (No lie about infidels is too outrageous for Muslims to believe, it seems. ~Bob.)

Comment update: 'Did we just kill a kid?': The moment drone operator who assassinated Afghans with the push of a button on a computer in the U.S. realized he had vaporized a child... and could not go on. By Helen Pow
Excerpt: Brandon Bryant, 27, from Missoula, Montana, spent six years in the Air Force operating Predator drones from inside a dark container. But, after following orders to shoot and kill a child in Afghanistan, he knew he couldn't keep doing what he was doing and quit the military. (Barb wrote: The penultimate video game; hypocrisy in policy. I responded that I thought a 20-year-old flying drones was unlikely, as I thought they had to be officers, like pilots. Apparently not, from the story. We will soon be in the great Science Fiction novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.)

Chuck Hagel's Jewish Problem: The would-be secretary of defense has some curious views.
Excerpt: Prejudice—like cooking, wine-tasting and other consummations—has an olfactory element. When Chuck Hagel, the former GOP senator from Nebraska who is now a front-runner to be the next secretary of Defense, carries on about how "the Jewish lobby intimidates a lot of people up here," the odor is especially ripe. (That an American Senator would say the things that Hagel has said is seriously upsetting. In this day and age to see a powerful politician coming out with daft statements about a "Jewish Lobby" supposedly intimidating lots of people is really shocking. First, the Democratic Party is heavily supported by liberal Jewish voters, so whatever effect Jews as a group (still a tiny percentage) is just in sync with the Democrats, and maybe Hagel should be talking about how Democrats intimidate people. To single out Jews as if they wield a lot of power in some nefarious way is doubly silly when it's non-practicing Jews like George Soros who aren't especially friendly to Israel, but sure wield power among Democrats. --Del)

Tweet from @JeffreyGoldberg
What is true about Hagel is that many people who despise Israel seem happy at the notion he will be picked for SecDef.

Income Tax Payers Entitled To an AR-15!
Excerpt: I have a suggestion for liberal anti-second amendment advocates like the “Mayor’s Council on Gun Violence” that would definitely reduce the number of senseless gun related homicides in the United States: A new big government federal regulation that prohibits people from owning a firearm if they don’t pay income taxes or if they receive federal or state entitlements. We could call it the Responsible Taxpayer Gun Rights Act of 2013.

Worth Reading: The 20 Most Devastating Stats of 2012 In Quotes, By John Hawkins
Well, if you were trying to keep thinking that things aren't really as bad as some people think for our economy, here are the statistics that will mess up your day. They add up to a simple overall fact that we are in a deep hole economically, and every day our government digs that hole a bit deeper. I don't think it means we are guaranteed to fall apart in the near future, but I do have to admit that it means either we start acting more responsibly in our national economics, which will mean lessening the level of our overall prosperity somewhat, or we will eventually hit some kind of economic wall that will make life much more difficult for everyone. Exactly how that impact would really work out is impossible to say, but there's no doubt that it would be a very unpleasant adjustment, the effects of which would go on for years. Hopefully we can get a government in power no later than 2016 that will start making the hard decisions that will allow us to adjust gradually and minimize the impact on our overall prosperity. –Del

Comment on the Marine Humiliated Story
Just finished chatting with a former Marine Captain who is now a Captain flying for Delta. He hadn't heard about the Cpl Brown incident. I sent him the link from the local paper. Needless to say he is PO'd. He said that on his flights, he or the 1st Officer does a walk thru and if there are ANY seats available in First Class, they walk on back and see if there are any military personnel in uniform to fill those seats. Of course Capt Jonas was one of those Marine officers that were easy to respect and follow. He is sending me the journal of another pilot we served with who was at one time the Asst Deputy Commander for Marine forces in Afghanistan. I can't wait to read it. –MasterGuns

Worth Reading: Why don't threats against Israel dismay the EU? By Clifford D. May
Excerpt: Israel is considering building homes on barren hills adjacent to Jerusalem. The EU's 27 foreign ministers said they were "deeply dismayed," and warned Israel of unspecified consequences if the plan is carried out.

Worth Reading: Everything you need to know about the assault weapons ban, in one post. By Brad Plumer
Excerpt: What counts as an “assault weapon”? The trouble all starts here. There’s no technical definition of an “assault weapon.” … One reason is that assault weapons were never a huge factor in gun violence to begin with. They were used in only 2 percent to 8 percent of gun crimes.

Comment from a reader
Stopped at a light this morning in Marlton, I noticed ahead of me a very new, very big and fancy pickup with very professional looking decal letters on its rear window, containing the following message: “Navy seal Vietnam 1964-1966. I'll forgive Jane Fonda when the Jews forgive Hitler.” --PLM

Gallup: Americans Want Mental Health Laws, Police, Not Banning Guns. By William Bigelow
Excerpt: Despite the attempts by the Left to use the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut to forward their anti-gun agenda, Americans feel that there are other avenues they would rather explore to protect to innocent children, according to a new Gallup Poll. In order of preference, the poll shows that 53% of Americans would favor an increased police presence at schools, 50% wanted to increase government spending on mental health screening and treatment, 47% thought that gun violence on TV, in movies and in video games should be decreased, and 42% thought the sale of assault and semi-automatic guns should be banned.

Run on guns as Walmart sells out rifles
Excerpt: With President Barack Obama endorsing sweeping gun restrictions in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, prices for handgun magazines are surging on EBay (EBAY) and semi-automatic rifles are sold out at many Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) locations. (Barack Obama continues his four-year run as the world’s greatest gun salesman ever. And the best NRA recruiter—see next piece. ~Bob.)

Three Chinese reactor projects underway
Excerpt: Construction of three new Chinese reactors has started since the country's announcement in October that it would approve only a 'small number' of projects in each of the coming five years. First concrete has now been poured for Fuqing unit 4 in Fujian province and Yangjiang unit 4 in Guangdong province - both 1080 MWe CPR-1000 units. In addition, construction of the Shandong Shidaowan HTR-PM project - a demonstration high-temperature gas-cooled reactor - has also started in Shandong province. (Industrial feudalism unencumbered by any significant green lobby can make decisions based solely on the science and economics. So, where are all the leftists protesting? Maybe they haven’t heard about it yet. Or, perhaps they’re all waiting for the Academy Award nominations. Or perhaps they read that the globe hasn’t warmed since 1995. Nah. It’s gotta be the Oscars. Ron P.)

The 10 Most Explosive Gun Control Facts: How to Save Lives. By Doug Ross.
Excerpt: What is the common feature of these shocking, mass attacks? They take place where guns are banned.

From the left: Down With Big Gun. By Drew Magary
Excerpt: Every time a tragedy happens and you, Mr. Gun Control Advocate, decide to lash out at the NRA, or at "our national obsession with guns," or at the classic straw man hunter who needs a 50-bullet clip just to chase down a squirrel, you're doing Ron Cohen, Sig Sauer, and everyone else at Big Gun a huge favor. (Leftist piece, so usual language warning. ~Bob.)

Judge: State must pay more than $700,000 in legal fees to attorneys of convicted murderer who wants sex change surgery
Excerpt: A federal judge said today that he would award more than $700,000 in legal fees to the team of lawyers who represented Michelle Kosilek, the convicted murderer who sued the state for a sex change operation to treat her gender identity disorder. (A society that provides sex change operations to murders is doomed. ~Bob.)

Gun-Carrying Arizona Man Helps Nab Bank Robber — And All He Had to Do Was Show the Suspect He Was Armed
Excerpt: One of three men involved in stopping a bank robbery suspect on Friday said carrying a sidearm is the responsibility of able-bodied, law-abiding men.

Worth Reading: The New Racial-Derangement Syndrome: What happened to Obama’s post-racial America? By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Unfortunately, the new racialist derangement is not confined to sports and entertainment. The Reverend Joseph Lowery — who gave the benediction at President Obama’s first inauguration — sounded as venomous as the Reverend Jeremiah Wright in a speech that Lowery delivered to a black congregation shortly before this year’s election: “I don’t know what kind of a n***** wouldn’t vote with a black man running.”

Senator Dianne Feinstein Has A Conceal Carry Permit. By Kerry Picket
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/12/19/Flashback-Dianne-Feinstein-s-own-conceal-carry-permit-story
Excerpt: I was trained in firearms. When I walked to the hospital when my husband was sick, I carried a concealed weapon. I made the determination that if somebody was going to try to take me out I was going to take them with me.

NYers who believe in Mayan apocalypse search for sex before the world ends
Excerpt: A sexy swimsuit model and countless other lusty New Yorkers say tomorrow’s predicted Mayan apocalypse is a great reason to have sex, and are turning to social media and doomsday-themed parties in hopes of fully experiencing humanity’s steamy climax. “If I die, I don’t want to die on a dry spell!” declared model Niki Ghazian. (My wife says I can’t go to New York tomorrow. I doubt most of these folks really needed much of an excuse, but, if the end of the world doesn’t qualify.... What could? Didn't you mention parties this weekend? Ron P.)

Justin Trudeau's Islamist Revival. By David B. Harris
Excerpt: Nothing says bug-eyed clerical fanaticism more than inviting a hate-spewing Saudi cleric to address your religious revival meeting. But this is part of the under-reported history of the Reviving the Islamic Spirit (RIS) Convention, a conference that Justin Trudeau, a frontrunner in Canada's Liberal Party leadership race – and son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau – will address this weekend in Montreal.

A Win for Religious Liberty: Belmont Abbey Suit Reinstated!
Excerpt: Today a federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. handed Belmont Abbey College and Wheaton College — and all religious colleges — a major victory in their challenges to the HHS mandate. Earlier this year, two lower courts had dismissed the Colleges’ cases as premature but today, an appellate court reinstated those cases. The Cardinal Newman Society and 15 Catholic colleges recommended in The Newman Guide had joined in an amicus brief supporting Belmont Abbey and Wheaton. (This is really good news, a court is holding the Administration’s feet to the fire, no excuses or delays, you must adequately address the concerns of religious liberty. Makes it more likely that eventually the foolish drive to force Catholic and other institutions to act against their deeply held religious precepts will be cast down, maybe by the Supremes. --Del)

Psych Meds Linked To 90% Of School Shootings. Expert: Psychiatric drugs likely cause of Lanza's extreme violence. By Jerome R. Corsi
Excerpt: Some 90 percent of school shootings over more than a decade have been linked to a widely prescribed type of antidepressant called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs, according to British psychiatrist Dr. David Healy, a founder of RxISK.org, an independent website for researching and reporting on prescription drugs.

Obama’s Real Plan: Soak the Middle Class
Excerpt: The reason I’m making a big deal out of this is that Jay Carney and his sound bite from the White House just now, rejecting John Boehner’s latest proposal, is filled with lies about how the Republicans are cutting taxes for the rich. I want you to understand, there are no tax cuts. There are no tax cuts contemplated. There are no tax cuts scheduled.

The Post-Newtown Witch Hunt. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: In the aftermath of the horrific Newtown, Conn., school massacre, Americans from all parts of the political spectrum agree that we need to pay more attention to mental health issues. Public death threats and incitements to violence must be taken seriously. The incendiary witch hunt against law-abiding, peaceful gun owners is neither noble nor effective. It's just plain insane. (Michelle Malkin really got my attention. Reading the truly hateful and violent rantings of the anti-gun fanatics was a surprise for me even after all these years of their ranting. You would think it would tell you something about how it's not really about regulating guns for safety, it's about imposing suppression on all legitimate, responsible gun owners in the nation. --Del)

Many freed criminals avoid deportation, strike again. The vast and secretive US prison system for immigrants, stymied when it tries to deport some criminals, has quietly released thousands, including killers, a Globe investigation shows. By Maria Sacchetti
Excerpt: Qian Wu thought the man who brutally attacked her was gone forever. She was sure that Huang Chen, a Chinese citizen who slipped into America on a ship and stayed in the country illegally, would be deported as soon as he got out of jail for choking, punching, and pointing a knife at her in 2006. But China refused to take Chen back. (Democrat policy: more laws, les enforcement. Too bad she wasn’t carrying. ~Bob.)

The Puzzle of Black Republicans - NY Times
Excerpt: WHEN Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina announced on Monday that she would name Representative Tim Scott to the Senate, it seemed like another milestone for African-Americans. Mr. Scott will replace Senator Jim DeMint, who is leaving to run Heritage Foundation. He will be the first black senator from the South since Reconstruction; the first black Republican senator since 1979, when Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts retired; and, indeed, only the seventh African-American ever to serve.

Terrorists in Syria Hang Shia Child after Killing Family Members
[http://abna.ir/data.asp?lang=3&id=334932]
Excerpt: According to a report by Iraq’s Qanon news website, Iraqi human rights activists said that armed rebel groups attacked the house of a Shiite Iraqi family in the Seyede Zainab neighborhood in the capital city of Damascus, killed all members of the family and hanged the last one, a little child. (This is the side Obama and the EU are supporting. Maybe why they both won the “Peace Prize.” ~Bob.)

3 Simple Solutions for Fixing Social Security. By Rob Bluey
Excerpt: Over the next 75 years, Social Security will owe an estimated $11.3 trillion more in benefits than it will receive in payroll taxes. It has been running deficits since 2010, according to the Social Security Administration.

If my life depended on a member of the national media understanding basics about guns or economics, I'm not sure which I'd choose. (You’d be toast in either case. ~Bob.)

‘Gun Free’ Britain is the Most Violent Country in Europe
Excerpt: Britain’s violent crime record is worse than any other country in the European union, it has been revealed. Official crime figures show the UK also has a worse rate for all types of violence than the U.S. and even South Africa – widely considered one of the world’s most dangerous countries.

We Know How to Stop School Shootings.

A Serious Discussion About Assault Vehicles. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: But when tragedy strikes it is important for us to set aside the political rhetoric and have a serious discussion about assault vehicles. Let’s talk about motorcycles. Unlike cars, motorcycles have no practical purpose.

Gun Found in Mexico at Cartel Shootout May Have Been Purchased by ATF Official Giving False Information
Excerpt: Documents provided to Senator Chuck Grassley suggest that a gun purchased by George T. Gillett may have been found at the scene of a Mexican shootout between drug cartel members and the Mexican military. Gillett was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) during the Fast and Furious scandal, where the federal government allowed nearly 2000 guns to be bought by straw purchasers and transported across the Mexico-U.S. border.

Excerpt: Because Obama and others believe that they can moderate the Muslim Brotherhood and this will tame the Salafists, despite massive evidence to the contrary. This is going to be the biggest foreign policy blunder of the last century, and the cost for it will be high. It should be stressed: such a strategy is totally unnecessary; the alternatives have been ignored; and the real moderates are being betrayed.

Sen. Lindsey Graham Wants FBI Interviews Of Benghazi Survivors
Excerpt: Senator Lindsey Graham (R – SC), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told Breitbart News on Tuesday that he wants to see the interviews the FBI conducted with the individuals who survived the Benghazi attacks. “You know the FBI conducted interviews with the survivors one or two days after the attacks, and it hasn’t been released to the Congress. I just can’t get over that,” he said. Mr. Graham agrees with Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R – UT), that the State Department has been “stonewalling” information on the survivors, saying: “We can’t get the basic information….
