Don’t drink the skool-aid
Excerpt: I have two little girls. They attend a public school. Last year, we went to my oldest daughter’s classroom to see them present their “holiday” play. You don’t say “Christmas” play, see, because then you’re indoctrinating students. So we are sitting in class, and my daughter and a few other kids, third-graders all, stand in front of the class. We parents then sat through the recitation of an excruciating litany of horrors that the world would be facing now that global-warming was here to destroy us all. Little scenes of animals dying were acted out. Prognostications about the end of man were made. Armageddon, as related by 8 and 9 year olds. My own little girl stepped forward and told us all that in five years, if something wasn’t done, Myrtle Beach (where we share many happy family memories) would be lost under the waves forever. Guess how the play ended? With an exhortation to the parents of course. “Mom and Dad, what can you do? Turn off lights, drive hybrid vehicles, and vote for candidates who are working to change the world for the better.” A small child’s voice barely squeaked out “Obama” before the applause, and a few knowing chuckles, erupted among the yuppies, yippies, and go alongs. Vote Democrat! …. says their teacher. This is not the first or last time overtly partisan, overtly leftist rhetoric was foisted on my children. That wasn’t even the first or last time that day. Every day they come home with something that I must debunk, refute, or dispute.

Caving to Trial Lawyers
Excerpt: Nearly $2,000 a year in extra health expenses for an average family, according to the rate of defensive medicine found in a study by Daniel Kessler and Mark McClellan. Stuart Weinstein, the former president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, echoes this result. He has calculated that if a doctor delivers 100 babies a year and pays $200,000 for insurance (the rate in Florida), "$2,000 of the delivery cost for each baby goes to pay the cost of the medical liability premium."
Conservatives See Need for Serious Health Debate
Excerpt: The roiling debate over health care this summer has included a host of accusations from opponents of the plan that have been so specious that many in the mainstream news media have flatly labeled them false. Far from embracing the attacks, many leading conservative health care policy experts said in recent interviews that the dynamic was precluding a more robust real-world debate while making it nearly impossible for them to inject their studied, free-market solutions into the discussions.

Obama and the Perfect Political Storm
Excerpt: August was the worst month of Barack Obama’s presidency. And he seems to know it—he is now planning to deliver a speech to a joint session of Congress 232 days into his administration in a desperate attempt to save his biggest domestic priority, overhauling health care. He has already had the budget-busting $787 billion stimulus package, a budget that doubles the national debt in five years, an earmark-laden appropriations bill that boosted domestic spending nearly 8%, and a cap-and-trade energy tax that limped through the House with dozens of Democratic defections (and which has stalled in the Senate). These achievements are unpopular, so they are boomeranging on him. Mr. Obama's problems are legion. To start with, the president is focusing on health care when the economy and jobs are nearly everyone's top issue. Voters increasingly believe Mr. Obama took his eye off the ball.
Bush whistle-blower now pans Dems
Excerpt: Bunny Greenhouse, the Army contract director lionized by Democrats for exposing corruption during the George W. Bush administration, is now complaining that her efforts to win more protections for federal whistleblowers are being undermined by the Obama White House and Democrats in the Senate. In a letter being sent Thursday to whistleblower activists, Mrs. Greenhouse, who exposed millions of dollars in no-bid contracts delivered to the giant contractor Halliburton, said she was angry to find out that she would be denied a jury trial under legislation passed by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in July. "It is time the Senate and the White House stop paying lip service to strong whistleblower protections for federal employees and pass a whistleblower law that meets their commitments," Mrs. Greenhouse wrote in the letter, which was obtained by The Washington Times.

Ahmadinejad's Imam: Islam Allows Raping, Torturing Prisoners
Excerpt: A highly influential Shi'a religious leader, with whom Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad regularly consults, apparently told followers last month that coercion by means of rape, torture and drugs is acceptable against all opponents of the Islamic regime. (They ain’t talking about waterboarding, BTW.)
