How the War on Poverty Has Hurt American Marriage Rates. By

Excerpt: It is no accident that the collapse of marriage in America largely
began with the War on Poverty and the proliferation of means-tested welfare
programs that it fostered. When the War on Poverty began, only a single welfare
program—Aid to Families with Dependent Children —assisted single parents. Today,
dozens of programs provide benefits to families with children, including the
Earned Income Tax Credit, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Women,
Infants and Children food program, Supplemental Security Income, food stamps,
child nutrition programs, public housing and Section 8 housing, and Medicaid.
(And single parenthood is highly correlated with...poverty! According to a
recent study, 20% of the kids who grow up in one-parent homes spend their lives
in poverty. Only 2% of those who grow up in two-parent families do. ~Bob)
Excerpt: Americans are depressed. Their deep-rooted
pessimism about the future may or may not put a Republican in the
White House in 2016. But seriously shaking this gloom will probably take more
than the usual conservative policy proposals of tax reform and simplification,
a defense buildup, regulatory reform, and so on. History demonstrates to us
that giant, rapid, positive change is possible, in both the political and the
economic realms. (Certainly the education establishment is in need of a drastic
overhaul. They are hide-bound with political correctness, unable to use common sense
to over come bureaucratic rules, teaching from fads rather than basics, and
spending more money every year for worse results. But I think the country is
too far gone towards fiscal, political and economic collapse for a change in
education, with a long time line for results, to fix it. Since I published my

Excerpt: Three problems plague the debate over whether all
combat units should finally be opened to women. (Actually, there are four
problems: The fourth and most important being the likelihood that there will be
no real debate, something that I hope this article will help to mitigate). Most
career soldiers and officers I know believe the integration of women into
Special Forces teams, and into SEAL, Ranger and Marine infantry platoons, is
already a forgone conclusion. From their perspective, politicians in uniform
(namely, top brass) don’t have the intestinal fortitude to brook the vocal
minority in Congress – and the country, really – who think mainstreaming women
into ground combat units is a good idea. (Here is another woman arguing very
persuasively against women in all combat units. She's done an even better
job at it than some of the other articles by women on this subject. But the
damn PC pressure on this is so consistent and so high that I really worry that
this push to put women into infantry units is near unstoppable. It will take
either a bunch of generals resigning in protest, or an eventual unmistakable
disaster with a mixed unit to slow this down. And unfortunately, the former is
unlikely, since most of the high ranking officers who still own their testicles

to focus for the next two years on getting the party into better shape, and

with the outcome of recent midterm elections. By the count of U.S. Term Limits, at least 13 politicians
elected earlier this month signed the pledge requiring them to co-sponsor a
constitutional amendment limiting House members to three terms (six years

Worth Sharing: All of Jonathan Gruber’s Controversial
Comments in a Single Two-Minute Video
The link takes you to a two minute video that is truly
priceless. It combines all of Dr. Gruber's fantastic, contemptuous quotes about
how the pass the Bill through torturous language, lack of transparency, and of
course the stupidity of the American voter, with quotes from people who at one
time claimed they never heard of him, but at earlier times mentioned him in the
most glowing terms as a wonderful asset to the government. And I haven't seen
the breakdown, but the tally now is that he's made several million dollars from
