Not to be missed post-election political news

Update

Ready for the call.

Feeling sorry for yourself? Get over it. Player With Brain Tumor Fulfills Basketball Dream
Excerpt: Much depends on Hill's health and energy as she deals with an inoperable brain tumor that has left her with just months to live. In between making two layups that started and finished Sunday's 66-55 victory over Hiram College and brought a crowd of 10,250 to its feet, she spent much of her inspiring game sitting on the bench wearing sunglasses and headphones.

General News and Comment

A Wave?
I think you can call it a wave election for Republicans, even though I'm disappointed in NH. Brown came from behind but not quite far enough, Alas. I think the GOP will pick up Alaska and Louisiana, but probably not Virginia, though the GOP candidate out-performed the polls by 8 points. The GOP prevailed in the governors' races, which were supposed to be a democrat bright spot, notably in deep blue Massachusetts, Maryland and Illinois. But 2010 was also a wave--and Obama won in 2012. You shouldn't think this means the GOP will win in 2016. Midterm elections have lower turnouts, and Republicans are generally more motivated to vote than Democrats. That's why we called a cold, rainy election day in Massachusetts "Republican weather," and why the GOP usually has a better chance in special elections. The turnout in midterms tends to be older, better educated, more informed about politics and have fewer minority voters. That changes in presidential years. If you want to win in 2016, start now. ~Bob

The Election
I think someone has beaten me to this, but I think we can now expect a hurricane of executive orders, as Barry tries to rule by decree until the new Congress is sworn in, betting that neither the lame duck nor the next Congress will challenge him. He may also tell himself he can sustain any veto in the new Congress. But can he? His mojo is clearly gone. If McConnell and Boehner decide to stand up to him (ROTFLMAO), how many Dem senators would take his side? In a healthy system I'd expect two years of vigorous hand to hand legislative combat. But we'll probably have more speeches and golf. --Tom H.

It’s a Wave: Republicans Take US Senate, Build Majority in House, Grab Governorships. By Josh Siegel
Excerpt: In a near-sweep of yesterday’s midterm elections, Republicans shifted the balance of power in the U.S. Senate, gaining at least seven seats, widened their majority in the House by at least 11 seats and defeated Democrats in 24 governor’s races.

An unhappy electorate is toughest on Obama and the Democrats. By Dan Balz
Excerpt: Campaign 2014 surpassed its advance billing, as an electorate that was deeply unhappy with all its leaders handed the biggest rebuke to President Obama and the Democrats by giving Republicans control of the Senate. For Democrats, election night turned out far worse than any of them had feared.

Dems off the ‘Mark.’ By Carter Eskew
Excerpt: If you want to know just how strong the Republican tide was last night, consider that in the wave election years 1980, 1986, 1994 and 2006, 27 total incumbent U.S. senators lost their bids for reelection. The vast majority of those races were very close; the average losing margin was less than four points, and that average is weighed down by George McGovern’s loss in 1980 (39.4 percent of the vote) and Rick Santorum’s in 2006 (41.3 percent). Yesterday, one Democrat, Mark Pryor, didn’t break 40 percent of the vote and only one, Kay Hagan came within four points of the victor (47.3 percent).

Video--great story: Mia Love Celebrates Big Victory In Utah: 'I Wasn't Elected Because Of The Color Of My Skin'
Excerpt: Congressman elect Mia Love celebrated her surprise victory in Utah as the first black Republican woman to be elected to the House of Representatives. But during an interview with CNN this morning, Love was quick to explain that she was not elected because of her race or gender.

Scott Walker’s re-election today will crazy up the crazies. By Dave Blaska
Excerpt: Will Scott Walker be elected governor of Wisconsin for the third time in four years? The answer is yes. Walker will win because Professor Charles Franklin’s Marquette Law school poll says so — and by the same 7-point margin Walker won the recall election, by the very margin Franklin called then. Walker will win because The Capital Times poll still shows Burke stubbornly ahead. (I heard Dave Blaska speak at "Pints and Politics" election night. A conservative blogger in Madison WI! I thought I was alone. ~Bob)

'Lame Duck' Obama: 'Worst Situation Since Eisenhower. 'Republicans take back the Senate as Obama admits to voter 'frustration in the government, polarization has gotten worse.'
Excerpt: Obama showed his disappointment on Tuesday night, speaking on a Hartford radio show where he admitted "this is probably the worst possible group of states for Democrats since Dwight Eisenhower."..."There are a lot of states that are being contested where they just tend to tilt Republican, and Democrats are competitive, but they tend to tilt that way," said the president, who will be a "lame duck" until presidential elections in 2016.... "They know things have gotten better from where they were six years ago, but they don't see the kind of cooperation between Democrats and Republicans they'd like to see." (Recent polls show majority of US citizens think US on the road the Hell in a hand-basket (or some such) and O thinks "things are better than they were six years ago." Well, that tells US what his goals for the country are, doesn't it? --Barb)

WH Privately Tells CNN Obama To Fake Bipartisanship: ‘Don’t Expect Us To Work With Them’

Around the world, harsh words for ‘lame duck’ Obama. By Adam Taylor
Excerpt: Before voting was even finished, newspaper was already pretty sure that President Obama would be the source of Democratic failure in the midterm elections. "Obama always utters 'Yes, we can,' which led to the high expectations people had for him. But he has done an insipid job, offering nearly nothing to his supporters," the paper said in an op-ed published Tuesday. "U.S. society has grown tired of his banality."

The 2016 campaign is under way. (Sorry.)

Ben Carson Officially Switches Political Parties
Excerpt: It’s not just the United States Senate that switched political parties on Election Day. Ben Carson, the neurosurgeon and conservative phenomenon who rocketed to fame when he challenged Barack Obama at a prayer breakfast last year, also officially changed his political affiliation, moving from independent to Republican. The step is another indication Carson may run for president in 2016. (I admire Dr. Carson, but think he's a bit naive about politics. ~Bob)

Government Never Changes
I'm reading American Slavery, American Freedom, a very interesting history of early Virginia. In the 1600s, the Virginia Assembly complained that an act of parliament affecting their trade was the result of avaricious men "whose sickle has been over long in our harvest." I laughed out loud--nothing changes. Government is still where "avaricious men" got to put their sickle in your harvest.

Certain politicians think businesses don't create jobs - but they've never worked anywhere!
How can people like Hilary and Obama talk about who and what makes jobs, when they have never had a real job in their lives, have always lived since college among the "elite", and don't even know the guy who molds the tires or puts jet fuel in the 747 or works high steel? But the elitist combination of arrogance and ignorance makes them bulletproof from mere reality. The only good thing is that this arrogance leads them to make the kind of statements that tell all the rest of us just how out of touch with the real world they are. --Del. From the forwarded email: I think some people in politics don't have a clue about a free market and economy based on these principles, couple with an ignorance of the Constitution. And Big government does not create jobs, it creates waste! Please reference the following and pass on to many others: This is an absurd viewpoint suggested in the following links (and also click on the links within the links to get real, video context):
Running for President:

Let’s try that again: Just because you’re a partisan you have no right to be an ass to your neighbor of a different party.

Football, the Newest Partisan Divide. By David Leonhardt
Excerpt: To the list of issues that divide the country along partisan lines, you can add an unusual item: football. Yes, virtually every slice of America still watches football in enormous numbers. But blue America — particularly the highly educated Democratic-leaning areas of major metropolitan areas — is increasingly deciding that it doesn’t want its sons playing football. The number of boys playing high school football has fallen 15 percent over the last six years in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations. (John Kass, the Chicago Tribune's token conservative pundit, thinks football will die out, due to the growing evidence of long term neurological damage to many players. I love football, but this gives me pause as well. Of course, if conservatives turn against football, liberals will say it's a plot to keep young, black males from becoming financial successful through the sport. ~Bob)

Obama lied? E-mail points to White House involvement in USDA’s firing of Shirley Sherrod. By Mary Clare Jalonick
Excerpt: A 2010 e-mail from Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says his department was “waiting for the go-ahead” from the White House before accepting the resignation of Shirley Sherrod, according to newly released documents, despite Obama administration assertions that her ouster was Vilsack’s decision alone. (Show me your shocked face. ~Bob)

Sizing America Up. In today’s foreign-relations climate, even a Jimmy Carter would seem like a godsend. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: A weak, lame-duck Barack Obama, who has now eroded a once exuberant Democratic party, will be even weaker in the next two years. If Democratic senators who had been his stalwart supporters — voting with him over 97 percent of the time — campaigned on not wanting any connection with Obama, one can imagine what our enemies abroad think of him. If Obama adopted policies of neo-appeasement when he enjoyed a 65 percent approval rating in 2009, one can imagine his approach when his positives dip below 40 percent.

Excerpt: The menacing letter sent out to a million New York Democrats to bully them into voting was written by a top campaign strategist who was appointed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo himself, sources told The Post. The revelation comes as a “circular firing squad” of finger-pointing has erupted over who is responsible for the letter, which was sent out last week by the New York State Democratic Committee and caused “panic” in the Cuomo camp, sources said.

Socialist Economics: Venezuela's Maduro to raise minimum wage
Excerpt: Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro says he will increase the minimum wage by 15% starting in December. The raise, the third this year, comes amid an annual inflation rate of 63.4%.

Right-to-Work Laws Make Unions More Accountable
Excerpt: Much opposition to paying union dues resides in the concern that unions will use the dues for political activity. While it is possible for a worker, even in a non-right-to-work state, to "opt out" of his dues being used for political purposes, Sherk says that it is a difficult thing to do in practice. Moreover, he explains that mandatory dues make unions less responsive to workers' concerns; because employees are required to pay dues regardless of union activity, unions have little incentive to listen to the concerns of their members. According to Sherk, in non-right-to-work states, unions charge their members higher dues and give their union officers higher salaries than in right-to-work states. When states implement right-to-work legislation and make union dues voluntary, unions become more responsive to their members.

Academic Science Isn’t Sexist. By Wendy M. Williams and Stephen J. Ceci, NYT
Excerpt: There’s no argument that, until recently, universities deserved their reputations as bastions of male privilege and outright sexism. But times have changed. Many of the common, negative depictions of the plight of academic women are based on experiences of older women and data from before the 2000s, and often before the 1990s. That’s not to say that mistreatment doesn’t still occur — but when it does, it is largely anecdotal, or else over generalized from small studies. ... Wendy M. Williams and Stephen J. Ceci are professors of human development at Cornell.

Countries Boost Incomes, Reduce Poverty with Capitalism
Excerpt: From 1990 to 2011, the percent of the world's population living in extreme poverty fell from 36 percent down to 15 percent. Why? Douglas Irwin, economics professor at Dartmouth College, says the answer is simple: capitalism. The drop in poverty over the last quarter-century is the greatest drop in poverty in world history, writes Irwin, and it is due to the fact that developing countries implemented business-friendly economic policies. He offers a few examples:

Too Late to Help: Jeanne Shaheen Conspired With White House Insider On IRS Targeting Scandal
Excerpt: Democratic New Hampshire Sen. Jeanne Shaheen was principally involved in a plot with Lois Lerner and President Barack Obama’s political appointee at the IRS to lead a program of harassment against conservative nonprofit groups during the 2012 election, according to letters exclusively obtained by The Daily Caller.

Wendy Davis lost tonight, and the other sweet victory is that her Texas Senate seat was taken by a female tea partier.

Congratulations to those bigots in South Carolina for electing an Indian governor and a black United States senator.

In about 75 minutes, Ds will decide that filibuster, formerly bad, is now good.

The lesson to Dems tonight ... you may like your seat, but you can't keep your seat.

What kind of night has it been for the GOP? In Georgia, one John F. Kennedy was elected to the state Senate ... as a Republican.

Army's last Vietnam-era draftee retires at age 62
Excerpt: The U.S. military says a central New York native has retired as the Army's last Vietnam-era draftee. The 2nd Infantry Division's public affairs office at Camp Red Cloud in South Korea says Chief Warrant Officer 5 Ralph Rigby's retirement ceremony was held Oct. 28, his 62nd birthday.

Whoever Wins Today, Obama’s Most Dangerous Years Are Just Ahead
Excerpt: Now the country is faced with the reality of a president who cannot even keep himself and his staff under control to help his own political allies. Such a performance bodes ill for the next two years. What is most likely to come is two years of a president who no longer believes he is answerable to anyone, not his own party, not the next Democratic nominee for president, and certainly not the people of the country at large.

Vote Fraud News

No ID needed
I went to the voting place today and when they ask me my name I told them I would have to look and see what my name for the day is as you suggested. They didn't think it was as funny as I did. --Butch

Worth Reading: Voter Fraud and Voter I.D. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: One of the biggest voter frauds may be the idea promoted by Attorney General Eric Holder and others that there is no voter fraud, that laws requiring voters to have a photo identification are just attempts to suppress black voting. Reporter John Fund has written three books on voter fraud and a recent survey by Old Dominion University indicates that there are more than a million registered voters who are not citizens, and who therefore are not legally entitled to vote.

TX: The Picture You’re Seeing Allegedly From Within a Texas Voting Booth Has Already Sparked an Investigation
Excerpt: An elections administrator in Bexar County, Texas, says her office is investigating a voting machine that appeared to leave off Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott’s name.

NC: Voting machine again displays wrong choice
Excerpt: Percy Bostick, 69, of Greensboro said he tried casting a vote for Democrat Kay Hagan at the Old Guilford County Courthouse, only to have the machine register Republican Thom Tillis as his choice. (Unlike the two cases in IL and the one in MD where GOP votes were flipped to Democrat, liberals will believe this was fraud. The GOP votes to Dem were "calibration errors." ~Bob)

In North Carolina Voter Fraud Threatens to Destroy Democracy - Seriously
Excerpt: Over the years James O’Keefe and Project Veritas have proven, time and again, that the things Democrats pretend don’t exist – really do. Whether at ACORN, Planned Parenthood or even in our supposedly non-partisan polling stations. Liberals like to pretend that voter fraud is not an issue of any seriousness – that the concerns are simply trumped up attempts by conservatives to hide our “closet” racism. The facts don’t bear that out. The facts lead us to believe that Democrats actually approve of voter fraud because voter fraud inordinately benefits Democrats. (But see above. ~Bob)

1.8 Million Voters Are Dead (And Other Facts You Didn’t Know About Voter Fraud). By Jessica Kline Joe Rusenko
Excerpt: The infographic below highlights different types of voter fraud and startling, real instances where fraud has imperiled the integrity of elections. Fortunately, steps like voter ID laws can be taken to ensure the integrity of elections. You can read the full informational booklet, “Does Your Vote Count?” here and a companion site that documents over 200 instances of voter fraud here.

GOP Name Missing, Voting Machines Malfunction: Anomalies hit midterm races across America
Excerpt: Dozens of precincts across Virginia on Tuesday reported voting machine troubles, while in Colorado the state’s election system had to be rebooted, and in Texas the Republican candidate’s name was found to be missing from the ballots in one county. The incidents, and others that have arisen Tuesday, raised questions about the integrity of the American election system, which has taken a bludgeoning in recent years because of incidents of fraud. In Virginia Beach, officials with the campaign of Rep. Scott Rigell, R-Va., reported voting machine problems already had encompassed 43 precincts, according to WVEC-TV in Norfolk.

Election Eve Dump: Justice Department Releases 64,280 Pages Of ‘Fast And Furious’ Docs
Excerpt: “The sheer volume of last night’s document production — which consists entirely of documents that the Justice Department itself acknowledges are not covered by executive privilege — shows that the president and the attorney general attempted to extend the scope of the executive privilege well beyond its historical boundaries to avoid disclosing documents that embarrass or otherwise implicate senior Obama administration officials,” reads the oversight committee press release. According to the press release, around two-thirds of the released documents are “well outside the scope of Executive Privilege.”

Michelle To Black Voters: Just Vote Democrat, Then Celebrate With Fried Chicken [VIDEO]

Another Day, Another Democrat Calling Obama Opposition Racist
Excerpt: It must get tiring for liberals in the media to be forced into the same conversations time and again with their Democrat guests. The questions may be different, but the answers always seem to be the same… RACISM. (It's all they have left, after endless policy failures. ~Bob)

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

http://healthblog.ncpa.org/health-policy-after-the-mid-terms-ncpas-early-take/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=HA#more-39390
Excerpt: Republican candidates won a decisive victory at the voting booth on Tuesday, in all races: House, Senate, governorships and state legislatures. The future of Obamacare has never looked worse. The next battle is more daunting: the Republican Party needs to avoid shooting itself in the foot, govern in a way that achieves results rather than perpetuates partisan bickering and continue to develop patient-centered health reform for the post-Obamacare future. Although Obamacare itself will not be repealed until January 2017, Republican success yesterday gives depth, resilience and energy to the post-Obamacare health reform movement.
Here is a list of some priorities for the new Congress:

Majority of ObamaCare Users Will Drop Their Coverage. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: That’s bad news for ObamaCare and it’s worse news because that majority is increasingly drawn from the middle class which is one more step toward turning ObamaCare into Medicaid. Fifty-one percent of respondents in a survey of last year’s Obamacare exchange customers don’t plan to purchase an exchange plan this year, according to a Bankrate Health Insurance Pulse survey out Monday.

All ages see higher premiums under Obamacare. By Philip Klein
Excerpt: Monthly premiums for health insurance soared in 2014, the first year of Obamacare’s full implementation, according to a new study. The report by HealthPocket.com — a site that allows consumers to compare health plans — compared rates from 2013 and 2014. “The analysis of pre- and post-Obamacare health insurance in the individually purchased health insurance market demonstrates a clear increase of average premiums across age groups and both sexes,” researchers found.

Obama Sued For Changing Obamacare: Case charges president illegally flipped federal law 'upside down'
Excerpt: Major Garrett wrote in National Journal: “The Affordable Care Act means what it says and says what it means. Until it doesn’t.” And the New York Times compiled a list of more than a dozen significant changes President Obama made to the law in just over a year, such as extending deadlines and allowing insurers to reinstate canceled plans. All of that could be the subject of a federal court hearing in Washington on Wednesday, where a lawsuit challenges as unlawful the executive orders Obama used to unilaterally alter Obamacare, without any approval or endorsement from Congress, which wrote the law.

Democrats' "War on the Poor:" Loss of Coal Will Boost Power Costs by 25 Percent
Excerpt: Companies have announced that 27 gigawatts (27,000 megawatts) of coal power will be permanently shut down by 2020, but according to a report from Standard & Poor's, between 40 and 75 gigawatts of coal power might be shut down by the end of the decade. One megawatt, according to Naureen S. Malik and Harry Weber of Bloomberg, can supply power for 800 homes. Malik and Weber report that 18 percent of the units closed by the end of 2015 will be replaced with renewable energy and natural gas. What do the closures mean for electricity costs? According to a new report from the Brattle Group, the loss of coal will increase the price of power by 25 percent for energy grids that currently supply power for one-third of the nation. The group says that the Midwest and Northeast will be most affected, as the areas get especially cold in the wintertime.

Obama Just Handed Over a Bunch of Anti-Tank Missiles to ISIS. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Who could have predicted this would happen? Oh everyone. I’m not even going to bother with an “I Told You So”. Everyone outside the D.C. bubble was predicting this. Two of the main rebel groups receiving weapons from the United States to fight both the regime and jihadist groups in Syria have surrendered to al-Qaeda.

Report: Obama Raises 'Centrifuge Ceiling' in Iran Deal
Excerpt: The Obama administration may be covertly allowing Iran's nuclear program to enrich more uranium than in initial agreements, a state-approved Iranian website said Wednesday - amid reports that he is looking to bypass congressional approval for a full-fledged nuclear deal. According to the report, the White House has allowed Iran to enrich uranium by operating 6,000 centrifuges - 2,000 more than initially reports last month. And that is after Obama has slowly raised the centrifuge threshold, it said - from 500 to 1,500 and finally to 4,000 - in a series of negotiations.

I have never in my life felt vulnerable as a Jew in America. By Roger L. Simon
Excerpt: I have never in my increasingly long life felt vulnerable as a Jew in America. I never even dreamed it would happen. But it has now — with the Obama administration.
Something is seriously wrong. At almost every opportunity, Obama and his minions have criticized Israel out of all proportion to the actions of the Jewish state, particularly during the recent Gaza War when there was a constant barrage of warnings from our State Department about harming civilians. (This is a criticism State would never turn on itself. Who knows how many innocents have died in the U.S. air attacks on ISIS — no one even says a word about it.) ()What would one expect from a man who professes Christianity and states he was charmed to hear the call of the muezzin? Would he be charmed to hear Kol Nidre? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4vMFNwwmLE&feature=player_embedded, a Gregorian chant, Handel's Messiah or Feliz Navidad? Obama will one day be revealed (if he doesn't do it himself)as a kind of Manchurian Candidate. Cordially, Larry Greenberg. Exactly what I have thought for awhile now. Rights group: Child captives faced ‘torture and abuse’ by Islamic State, By Hugh Naylor
Excerpt: Kurdish children from the besieged Syrian town of Kobane were beaten with electrical cables and forced to watch beheading videos while held in captivity by Islamic State militants, an international rights group said Tuesday. The report by Human Rights Watch is the latest to document claims of atrocities and abuses by the Islamic State, including accounts of public executions of dozens of opposition fighters in Iraq in the past week.

The sister of Hamas spokesperson Moussa Abu Marzouk is being treated for cancer in an Israeli hospital, Israel Radio reported today.
Excerpt: The report did not mention at which hospital 60-year-old Halamia Shcata was being treated but did note that her condition is critical. She is reportedly suffering from late-stage cancer. Hamas leaders continually call for the destruction of the Jewish State on the political level but also send their sick family members to Israel for medical care. Marzouk’s sister, Shcata, is the latest to receive medical treatment in Israel. Two weeks ago, it was reported that Gazan Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh had turned to the Tel Aviv Soraski Medical Center for emergency medical treatment for one of his 13 children. Haniyeh’s mother-in-law and his granddaughter were also given medical care at Israeli hospitals. The ultimate hypocrites. Call for their annihilation but depend on their charity to save your life.\ Why isn't this reported in the mainstream media? Cordially, Larry Greenberg

Children of the Caliphate. The Islamic State is raising an army of child soldiers, and the West could be fighting them for generations to come. By Kate Brannen
Excerpt: They stand in the front row at public beheadings and crucifixions held in Raqqa, the Islamic State's stronghold in Syria. They're used for blood transfusions when Islamic State fighters are injured. They are paid to inform on people who are disloyal or speak out against the Islamic State. They are trained to become suicide bombers. They are children as young as 6 years old, and they are being transformed into the Islamic State's soldiers of the future. (Understanding the extremity of the views of these total fanatics is important. This is why they are very dangerous, to all other Muslims as well as to everyone else in the world, but Westerners first. Indoctrinating child soldiers is one of the most awful and long lasting atrocities there is. That is how Pol Pot raised a corps of teenage boys to commit horrific murders with never a qualm. And one more time... this is NOT about all Muslims or about Islam as a religion, it's about how a segment of those in the religion can read it as a demand to be brutal killers and merciless bosses of a religious state. But when they are this organized, this smart, this well supported, they have to be taken very seriously, and in the end, they must be smashed as the Nazis were, for the sake of everyone. But where is the leadership needed to accomplish this? --Del)

Excerpt: at two separate spots near the light rail, including one crowded station, killing a Border Police officer and injuring 14 other people, according to The Jerusalem Post. Israeli authorities were aware that the terrorist, Ibrahim al-Acri, was a Hamas operative, and the terrorist organization claimed responsibility for the attack, referring to al Acri as a "martyr" who conducted "a heroic operation." (Or, as Obama calls them, another "traffic incident." ~Bob)

We drove Saddam’s Yellowcake to Baghdad Airport
Excerpt: As someone who led the company that transported 550 metric tons of yellowcake uranium-enough to make fourteen Hiroshima-size bombs-from Saddam's nuclear complex in the Iraq War's notorious "Triangle of Death" for air shipment out of the country, I know Baathist Iraq's WMD potential existed. In early 2008, we secretly moved over several nights 140 truckloads carrying 5500 barrels of extremely heavy radioactive material provided to Iraq as part of the French-supplied Osiraq reactor destroyed by Israeli fighter bombers in 1981. The virulently anti-Semitic Saddam had announced "here begins the Arab bomb" and the Israelis took him at his word.
