The phone calls I get come from a large number of numbers.
The caller ID has even listed MY number as the caller, a Wells Fargo number
that is no longer in service and many other numbers. I have called my local phone
company to let them know about what is going on. These people can not be easily
traced. Used to be that the calls only came on home phone but now they're
coming on my cell phone. Some days I get more than 1 call. Rarely does a week
go by that I don't get called. I report some of the calls but it is frustrating
to keep reporting and nothing is done. If you Google Rachael from Card
Services, you will notice that this is a scam used by identity thieves. This
has been going on for several years. It must be a profitable scam and I hope
that people wise up and hang up when they hear Rachael from Card Services.

I try to make this blog your one-stop-shop for political
news and conservative opinion. Founded
in October, 2008, it gets 5k to 7k page views a week, most from the US ,
but hundreds from many countries worldwide. Feel free to post or forward to
friends who need to be better informed. The news posts are created from several
news feeds, from US and international websites, from twitter when I have spare
time to follow it, and by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I
would have often have missed or skipped. We owe them thanks and appreciation. I
try to include foreign sources and info you won’t get in the MSM, but I often
use links to pieces in the Washington
Post, New York Times, Politico, Reuters and other
left-of-center sources. No one is required to read the blog, or any of the
links. Trust me, no one reads everything posted, but scanning the headlines
will keep you informed, and you can click on stories you want to know more
about. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate
thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t
mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the
posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which
is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are
false, too far a stretch, or viciously inflammatory, regardless of the view
point. I also try to avoid items that will turn off thoughtful centrists and
leftists or low-information independents, including “red meat” pieces with
intemperate language or wild speculation, conspiracy theories with no
supporting facts and silly distractions like the so-called “birther” issue
(which I correctly predicted years ago was going nowhere, and wasted time and
energy), but I don’t always succeed. I use maybe 50% of the conservative pieces
sent me, probably less than 5% of the liberal opinion sent, usually to
illustrate their views. Readers who don’t like that are welcome to start their
own blogs. Readers who send formatted pieces (title, link, and a fair-use
excerpt of no more than three sentences unless the piece is very short, than
fewer) to tartanmarine(at)gmail.com have a higher chance of my using them than
people who just send a link. A piece without a link has a much lower chance of being used—it depends on how interesting it is
and how much time I have right then to search for it, and my time is limited
right now due to managing the lung transplant I received on December 23, 2013,
which has developed complications. I understand if you don’t have the time to
format or even to find a link—please understand I don't either. I often include
thoughtful comments from contributors. (Tell me if you want your full name
used.) There are no ads on my blog, no fees and I receive no income from it.
Now that I've retired, that might need to change, though I hate the ads on most
blogs. For now, that’s how it is. I do promote my books, with the royalties
going to charity. As always on the Net, just as in the legacy media, you must
read these posts critically and with skepticism.

I love this one. Governor Walker did not go back for his
senior year in college, instead went out to get a job, start a family, and
subsequently go into politics. Where he's been pretty successful, surviving the
most intense and prolonged attacks by the civil service unions ever launched,
getting the state budget under control, and generally really managing the state well enough that his support among voters has only increased with time. But now supposedly he cannot be considered a viable candidate for the Oval Office because he doesn't have that sheepskin. Well, neither did Harry Truman, a Democrat, who is generally well regarded for his accomplishments during his presidency. Most of us know that having a college degree, even a Law Degree, doesn't somehow make you a guaranteed great President, and our history is well supplied with men and women who didn't go far in academia but did extremely well in all kinds of other pursuits. Most of us also know that OJT is often invaluable, and actually having been successful in elected offices over years of conflicts and challenges would seem to me to be, if anything, more important than any kind of degree, basic or advanced. So I wish Governor Walker well, and if he opts to run for the White House in another year or so, I hope people will be far more concerned with what he's accomplished after leaving college than anything he did before. --Del

When we talk about an invention or a new drug or a new
discovery in astronomy or even a new mobile phone, we expect that this product
was not manufactured or invented in the Arab world and we rarely see an Arab
mind behind something like that. This is a shameful fact, and it led me to
wonder what is wrong. Why we are behind in nearly everything we do, even
meeting deadlines and appointments in work and social life. Why our image as Arabs
is so damaged? Is there any way out? ... We are now very backward and hated.
Why are Arabs behind the times? I believe there are many reasons for this.
Firstly, extremism is an enemy of progress and certainly the emergence of
extremist movements such as Al Qaeda, Taleban and IS had a negative role due to
their calls for fighting non-Muslims, but I don't agree that this is the only

This is a copy of a post I placed on my blog in September of 2012. It still applies now, especially. "Just short of three years ago, I wrote a post about why we should go to war. In a nut shell, the only time we should go to war is when our interests are threatened to such an extent that violently forcing our will on a people or country becomes absolutely necessary. The only way to wage that war is in such a way as to quickly, efficiently, and decisively inflict our will on the enemy. There is no such thing as “collateral damage”. Either you are fighting to aid our cause or you are the enemy. The only end game is unconditional surrender. Period.
ReplyDeleteI challenged readers to study history: WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and Israel before and after the Camp David Peace Accord. I find the parallels between the aftermath of Chamberland’s and Jimmy Carter’s “foreign policy” and the current administration’s striking. Each one acted from reason and conciliation as the best solution. The result? The bad guys decided we were too weak to stop them. Violence erupted. Many lives were unnecessarily lost because the free world’s leaders believed that reason was the solution.
Ever try to reason with a two year old? It works just about as well with foreign policy. Dictators and fanatics only understand that you can and will hit them with everything y0u have. Only then will they cease from the violence. If they perceive that you have neither the will or the balls to strike, they will walk all over you. Read the writings from Hanoi sometime. Their tactics were almost completely based on dragging the war out until the French and then the Americans couldn’t take the losses any more. Sound familiar? It should. It was invented in America. How do you think we won the Revolutionary War?
The United States used to be the world power that held nations accountable. No longer. World violence is on the increase as a result. Make no mistake. We will pay a much higher toll in our children, our wealth, and our freedoms because we allow those who do not seek peace to operate with impunity."
