Today's Political News and Conservative Comment

Update

Sharon again about "phishing."
The phone calls I get come from a large number of numbers. The caller ID has even listed MY number as the caller, a Wells Fargo number that is no longer in service and many other numbers. I have called my local phone company to let them know about what is going on. These people can not be easily traced. Used to be that the calls only came on home phone but now they're coming on my cell phone. Some days I get more than 1 call. Rarely does a week go by that I don't get called. I report some of the calls but it is frustrating to keep reporting and nothing is done. If you Google Rachael from Card Services, you will notice that this is a scam used by identity thieves. This has been going on for several years. It must be a profitable scam and I hope that people wise up and hang up when they hear Rachael from Card Services.

The Old Jarhead Blog--thanks for following!
I try to make this blog your one-stop-shop for political news and conservative opinion. Founded in October, 2008, it gets 5k to 7k page views a week, most from the US, but hundreds from many countries worldwide. Feel free to post or forward to friends who need to be better informed. The news posts are created from several news feeds, from US and international websites, from twitter when I have spare time to follow it, and by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have often have missed or skipped. We owe them thanks and appreciation. I try to include foreign sources and info you won’t get in the MSM, but I often use links to pieces in the Washington Post, New York Times, Politico, Reuters and other left-of-center sources. No one is required to read the blog, or any of the links. Trust me, no one reads everything posted, but scanning the headlines will keep you informed, and you can click on stories you want to know more about. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, too far a stretch, or viciously inflammatory, regardless of the view point. I also try to avoid items that will turn off thoughtful centrists and leftists or low-information independents, including “red meat” pieces with intemperate language or wild speculation, conspiracy theories with no supporting facts and silly distractions like the so-called “birther” issue (which I correctly predicted years ago was going nowhere, and wasted time and energy), but I don’t always succeed. I use maybe 50% of the conservative pieces sent me, probably less than 5% of the liberal opinion sent, usually to illustrate their views. Readers who don’t like that are welcome to start their own blogs. Readers who send formatted pieces (title, link, and a fair-use excerpt of no more than three sentences unless the piece is very short, than fewer) to tartanmarine(at)gmail.com have a higher chance of my using them than people who just send a link. A piece without a link has a much lower chance of being used—it depends on how interesting it is and how much time I have right then to search for it, and my time is limited right now due to managing the lung transplant I received on December 23, 2013, which has developed complications. I understand if you don’t have the time to format or even to find a link—please understand I don't either. I often include thoughtful comments from contributors. (Tell me if you want your full name used.) There are no ads on my blog, no fees and I receive no income from it. Now that I've retired, that might need to change, though I hate the ads on most blogs. For now, that’s how it is. I do promote my books, with the royalties going to charity. As always on the Net, just as in the legacy media, you must read these posts critically and with skepticism.

General News and Comment

Worth Reading: Of Mailer and Murder. By Theodore Dalrymple
Excerpt: The second case was of a man with many previous convictions, some for violence, who abducted and murdered a young woman aged 24. He was imprisoned and applied for bail. Three times he was turned down, but a fourth judge granted him bail. He was sent to live at a certain address, where he befriended his neighbours, who did not know that he was accused of murder. Eight months later, while babysitting their children, he killed one of them. Perhaps the most extraordinary twist of this terrible tale is that the parents of the murdered child then had another baby, which the social services then removed from them on the grounds that they had previously entrusted a child to the care of a murderer and were therefore irresponsible parents. The state blames its citizens for the mistakes - if that is what they are - that it makes.

Quote
When a subject becomes totally obsolete we make it a required course. --Peter F. Drucker

Unless, of course, you believe in the Progressive Fairy tale that nothing is the individual's fault (unless he's a white male), and no one has personal responsibility for his actions.

Latest quote from Ben Carson
The media are of course jumping on him about comments he made referring to the ISIS guys as having the strength of their convictions, which was NOT praise for them, but making the point that we civilized people need to be as committed to the principles and practices of civilization as they are to barbarism. Having heard the zingers coming in on him from the media, here is what Carson then said about his not being careful enough in what he says: "I will confess that I do not have experience in certain things like empowering special interest groups and growing the government and wasting taxpayer money and disarming our military and deserting our allies and lying to the people and submitting to the PC [political correctness] police." Gee, the guy is hopeless, isn't he? Good for Dr. Ben! --Del

Latest attack on Gov. Scott Walker
I love this one. Governor Walker did not go back for his senior year in college, instead went out to get a job, start a family, and subsequently go into politics. Where he's been pretty successful, surviving the most intense and prolonged attacks by the civil service unions ever launched,
getting the state budget under control, and generally really managing the state well enough that his support among voters has only increased with time. But now supposedly he cannot be considered a viable candidate for the Oval Office because he doesn't have that sheepskin. Well, neither did Harry Truman, a Democrat, who is generally well regarded for his accomplishments during his presidency. Most of us know that having a college degree, even a Law Degree, doesn't somehow make you a guaranteed great President, and our history is well supplied with men and women who didn't go far in academia but did extremely well in all kinds of other pursuits. Most of us also know that OJT is often invaluable, and actually having been successful in elected offices over years of conflicts and challenges would seem to me to be, if anything, more important than any kind of degree, basic or advanced. So I wish Governor Walker well, and if he opts to run for the White House in another year or so, I hope people will be far more concerned with what he's accomplished after leaving college than anything he did before. --Del

SELFIE CRIMINALS: Two Thugs Who Stole iPad’s and $5,000 Help Police By Taking Selfie’s on Stolen iPad’s and Posting the Pics
Excerpt: A Houston man said he has his iPad to thank for identifying the men who he said stole thousands of dollars in cash and electronics from his truck. “I think they felt elated that they got away with such a big score,” said Randy Schaefer. (Ya can't cure stupid! --JB).

Idiot: 'They are cowards not heroes': Michael Moore slams 'military assassins' as Oscar-tipped movie American Sniper storms box office
Excerpt: Taking to Twitter in rage, Fahrenheit 9/11 director Moore seethed: 'My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse.' (Moore, of course, is too obese and too cowardly to have ever served, so he knows nothing of war. Any soldier will shoot an opposing soldier in the back. If they are facing you, they might kill you first. War is not about sportsmanship--it's about winning and losing, who lives and who dies. If I failed to shoot an enemy in the back, he would like go on to kill more Americans. If you lined up SISI, al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Boko Haram and other terrorist facing away from me, I'd happily shoot every one of them in the back. More than once. Would need breaks to eat, sleep and make head calls, but other than that, I'd kill them until my arm fell off. Unfortunately, I lack both the fine motor skills and the patience to be a sniper. After about an hour tops, I'd say to my spotter, "et your rifle--we're going to go find them." ~Bob)

Nuclear War?
Excerpt: Mikhail Gorbachev, former Premier of the Soviet Union, on Sunday, January 11, warned that the crisis in Ukraine could trigger a nuclear war: "It could all blow up at any moment....Such a war today probably would lead inevitably to nuclear war....If anyone loses their nerve in this charged atmosphere, we will not survive the next few years."

America Still Pinnacle of Freedom and Success. By Ben Carson
Excerpt: The U.S. Constitution was designed to preserve the freedom and rights of all citizens. Our Declaration of Independence states all men are created equal and that we have certain God-given rights. With documents like these, how have we arrived at the state of such discord between purported haves and have-nots in our society? Some will try, of course, to discount any discussion of this topic by talking about the treatment of slaves, indentured servants, Native Americans, and others who historically were not treated well. I am willing to acknowledge the same human frailties which characterized societies throughout the world found their way into America, but it is unfair to demonize a nation and its many constituents based on the shortcomings of some of its members. Those who condemn America for its past seldom talk about the tremendous good and generosity demonstrated by the U.S., a nation which cannot be denied the title of being the most benign in the history of the world. (Dr. Carson always strives to take very reasonable approaches to whatever topics he is asked to discuss, and the essay below is a fine example of this. Acknowledging the tragic injustices of the past is fine, but should not overshadow the wonderful progress made by this nation over the centuries. And education is a key element to social progress, which clearly needs a lot of help here. I don't know about running the doctor for President, although it can certainly be argued that his life experiences, intelligence, and judgment are absolutely no less than Mr. Obama's were when he went into politics. Maybe he'd be a good VP candidate, but all of that is still a year away, and there is so much that can happen just in 2015 that will affect the future. --Del. I admire Dr. Carson for many reasons, but in his book America the Beautiful, I find him a little naive about how much can be accomplished in DC through reason and good will. ~Bob)

More, More, More Spending, Obama Urges. Obama’s fiscal folly will leave every American taxpayer $1 million dollars in debt. By Quin Hillyer
Excerpt: Bloomberg Politics reported that Obama will ask Congress this year to bust discretionary budget caps by $68 billion. “That amounts to an almost 7 percent increase over discretionary-spending levels prescribed by automatic cuts known as sequestration voted into law in 2011,” Bloomberg wrote. And this is at a time when inflation is running at less than 1 percent.

College for All Would Set Many Up for Trouble. By Neal McCluskey
Excerpt: Some simple facts about college and the economy should cause everyone, no matter what they want reality to be, to pause and think. The first reality is that huge percentages of people who enter college, for everything from certificate programs to bachelor’s degrees, likely don’t finish. There are many reasons for this, but the end result is the same: millions of people have been encouraged to go to college who haven’t gotten what they expected or wanted. And it has cost both the students and taxpayers a whole lot of money. ... In 2012, 44 percent of those who had just completed a four-year degree ended up in jobs that didn’t require their credential, and typically a third of all bachelor’s holders are underemployed.

Disability Fund Running Dry
Excerpt: In 1990, just one of every 10 Social Security dollars went towards disability payments. Today, one in every five dollars go to disability. From 1990 to 2008, the number of Americans receiving disability payments doubled. Since 2008, disability payments have risen 32 percent. During President Obama's time in office, the disability rolls have risen 21 percent.

Parents Under Investigation for Neglect After Allowing Kids to Walk to Playground
Florida mom arrested after letting 7-year-old walk to the park alone
Parents investigated for neglect after letting kids walk home alone
We are raising hothouse flower kids, who will give up die in a stressful environment. And one is surely coming. At 5, I walked alone to kindergarten, about 8 blocks. One day we made May Baskets from construction paper and glue. I filled mine with flowers for my grandmother on the way home. She explained to me that it wasn't nice to pick flowers from other folks' gardens. ~Bob)

Gun News

Video: Katie Pavlich Explains How the 2014 Elections Were a 2nd Amendment Success

Excerpt: On Thursday morning, someone called in a bomb threat to a local school district.
According to the local news, the caller “identified himself” as Dallas Horton, and then claimed he had placed a bomb in a school. While Oklahoma State Police EOD were dispatched to handle the bomb threat, Sentinel Police Chief Louis Ross and two Sheriff’s deputies went to the Horton home. They kicked in the door, and made entry, and things quickly went south from there.

One of the suspects, 23-year-old Durell Hearn, was wielding an AK-47 pistol and fired a warning shot, department spokesman Sgt. Ron Glover said. (Like to have one of those AK-47 pistols. ~Bob)

'Black Lives Matter' protesters prevented ambulance from reaching Boston hospital
Excerpt: Massachusetts State Police Superintendent Timothy P. Alben told reporters during a press conference that an Easton ambulance carrying car crash victims in serious condition had to be diverted to a lower-level hospital because of the protests. (Hey, protesters, #CrashVictimsLivesMatter. Storming into bars and restaurants, locking themselves to concrete-filled-barrels and blocking Interstates . . . this is the progressive grassroots of 2015. This is the Left, capital-L. This is blind fury, lashing out at others for having the audacity to drink beverages, eat brunch, or commute in a manner that the self-appointed arbiters of justice on the left deem insufficiently down with the cause. There is no actual “activism” here. There is no attempt at persuasion here. There is no thought here. There is only resentment and anger and a desire to lash out at anybody who isn’t one of them. There’s no agenda or plan to actually improve things. There’s no call to action. It’s just rage-whining. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt)

"Queers" Protest in the Castro #Blacklivesmatter (Pictures)
Excerpt: Activist's chose the Castro "because it is a space dominated by white middle class men, and is symbolic of the racial divide within the LGBT community and gentrification in San Francisco in general." Activists also wanted to draw attention to the fact that the Castro supports LGBT related organizations that are generally "apathetic" towards black and brown people.

1st Black American to Walk on the Moon?: Beachgoers Forget MLK & What He Did
Excerpt: Americans Forget Martin Luther King and What He Did. Mark Dice interviews beachgoers in San Diego about MLK for Martin Luther King Day 2015

Dems Replaced MLK with Sharpton. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Al Sharpton is a racist whose advocacy of hate has made him the dominant black leader. The ascent of Sharpton from street thug to MSNBC host and Obama confidante is the clearest possible rejection of the MLK legacy, not by white racists, but by black racists and their progressive collaborators. That hasn’t stopped Sharpton from hijacking the King legacy by holding annual MLK day events and using Selma to accuse Hollywood of racism to shake it down for money.

Black America's economic decline betrays King's legacy. Armstrong Williams
http://jewishworldreview.com/0115/armstrong011915.php3
Excerpt: When he came to Washington to deliver the "I Have a Dream" speech on the National Mall, he started out by decrying "the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination." Most of the push for civil rights since his passing has focused on eradicating discrimination and challenging the social stigma of racism. But in the very next sentence, King lamented the economic dislocation of Black America, calling it "a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity." Addressing the economic challenges of Black America was just as essential to King as the social challenges. In fact, they were inseparable.

The Street Sweeper. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: My favorite is little known and even less remembered. It is a speech no leader in America on a stage such as he commanded would ever think to give. It is a speech about individuals being the best they can be as the beginning of their way in life and finding God as the end. ... What I’m saying to you this morning, my friends, even if it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, go on out and sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures; sweep streets like Handel and Beethoven composed music; sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry; (Go ahead) sweep streets so well that all the host of heaven and earth will have to pause and say, “Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well.”

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

New Year, New Problems For Obamacare. By Sally Pipes
Excerpt: Low-income Americans are in for a nasty surprise this tax season, thanks to an Obamacare accounting glitch. Obamacare overpaid up to 3.4 million Americans to help them buy subsidized health insurance. Now, those citizens will have to pay back the IRS when they file their taxes. But most of these working-class Americans have already spent that cash — ostensibly, on the health insurance the Obama administration forced them to buy.

Excerpt: Whether you have job-based health benefits, are in an Obamacare exchange or are on Medicare, you have likely recently gone through the difficult experience called open enrollment. As a result, you may have lost access to your physician or nearby hospital. Think about how little sense this makes. Did you change anything else in your life for the sole reason that the calendar turned a page? I’ll bet you’ve had the same car insurance and homeowner’s insurance for years. If you rent your business premises, your lease can cover whichever period you and your landlord negotiate. I call this the Heliocentric Doctrine of health insurance: Designing coverage around the period of time the earth takes to revolve around the sun, instead of patients’ health status. It has harmful consequences.

"You're Greener than Gore" News

Excerpt: Amid the fierce partisan debate over everything from health care to terrorism, we ought to pause from time to time and reassess when one party has been proven right and the other incorrect in their policy choices. The current decline in gasoline prices at the pump to the $2 level offers a good case in point. Many will remember how our politics were roiled in the summer of 2008 by high oil and gasoline prices. Republicans, led by John McCain chanted "drill, baby, drill" and candidate Barack Obama intoned that "we cannot drill our way out of high energy prices." Well, it is now clear that Obama and the Democrats were wrong and McCain and the Republicans were right.

Cry me a river: Falling oil prices hit Venezuela, Iran and Russia hard. By Jackson Diehl
Excerpt: As oil prices continued to plunge last week, it was instructive to watch the disparate reactions of three governments whose whopping losses are likely to produce some of the biggest international stories of 2015. There was the panicked scrambling of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who skipped his own state of the union speech for a desperate world tour in search of loans or promises of $100 oil. He got neither, even as rumors flew back home about whether he would be allowed to stay in office on his return.

Religion of Peace News

What could go wrong?: US consulate to arm Palestinian guards in spite of Israeli law: Plan to give 35 Palestinian security guards weapons draws fire from Israeli guards, who quit in protest.
Excerpt: A scandal has erupted in the American Consulate in Jerusalem, as three Israeli security guards have quit following a plan to hire 35 armed Palestinian guards from East Jerusalem. The Palestinians have been undergoing weapons training in Jericho in recent days. (Best case: they refuse to fight in a crisis. Worst case: they fight on the Jihadist side. ~Bob)

Yes, but....There is Only One Way to Stop Obama from Setting Jihadists Free: Short of impeachment, there is really nothing Congress can do. By Andrew C. McCarthy
Excerpt: You’re not going to like this. Our commander-in-chief is recklessly releasing jihadists from Guantanamo Bay. The president’s Bush-deranged base is buoyed by the all-out effort to fulfill his vow to shut down the detention camp. But the vast majority of Americans remain opposed, and increasingly alarmed. The pace of releases has surged since November’s midterm elections, with over two-dozen detainees sprung — aiding the enemy even as the terror threat intensifies. (A failed effort to impeach Obama, which would be the case absent 14 Democrat votes in the Senate, would help him and I didn't want to help Obama. Before the GOP launched their impeachment effort, Bill Clinton was despised by a majority of voters. After it failed, the media made him into a hero, a victim of evil Republicans. Now he's a wealthy elder statesman and the most respected former president since Reagan. Call me a RINO, but damn me if I want that for Obama. A successful impeachment effort would create riots in our cities, with thousands of deaths and tens of millions of dollars in damages--that the taxpayers would eventually pick up. It would also send President Bumbler Biden into the 2016 election as a favorite, with a united party, tons of money from the left billionaires like Steyer and Soros and the news media convincing the low info voters that impeachment was just GOP political revenge on a black president. We'd likely have Biden as president until 2020 and lose the senate. I wake up shuddering at the thought. It's not that I don't think Obama deserves to be impeached, but I am not blinded by my dislike to the likely adverse outcomes. ~Bob)

Why France is seeing an exodus of its Jews: Despite yesterday’s show of unity, the rise of anti-Semitism has proved intolerable for many - including my own family. By Norman Lebrecht
Excerpt: But the rift between the Republic and its Jewish citizens did not begin last week. It has a longer history. My family were hugely proud of being French. ... Yesterday a million marched in Paris and the impressive Mr Valls declared: “We are all Charlie, we are all police, we are all Jews of France.” How I long to believe that. My Jewish friends were out on the streets of Paris this weekend, hoping that, after this tragic moment, the tide will turn. For myself, I am unable to pretend that life will go on as before. My history, as a Jew of France, is over.

Excerpt: Jihadists in Mali have attacked two towns in the last 24 hours, leaving at least four dead in the restive African country. Suspected al Qaeda militants struck the United Nation's base in Kidal in the north with a complex assault. Two suicide car combs and a rocket barrage left at least one Chadian peacekeeper dead. (The problem is we are sending "peacekeepers," when we need to send warriors who will close with and destroy the enemy. ~Bob)

No Surprise: Ankara Mayor: Israel to Blame for Charlie Hebdo Attack. By Burak Bekdil
Excerpt: Commenting on the Paris massacre, the Lord Mayor suggested that Israel was annoyed with the Lower House of French Parliament for voting for the recognition of a Palestinian state, and with France's vote in favor of a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for the same recognition. He unmasked the plot: "Israel certainly doesn't want this sentiment to expand in Europe. That's why it is certain that Mossad is behind these kinds of incidents: Mossad enflames Islamophobia by causing such incidents.

Jindal's brilliant take on radical Islam
Excerpt: "Let's be honest here. Islam has a problem." Those are key sentences in an incredibly hard-hitting speech that Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal will give in London on Monday. It is the toughest speech I have read on the whole issue of Islamic radicalism and its destructive, murdering, barbarous ways which are upsetting the entire world. (Finally someone with some "stones." --JB)

Mayor of Montreal Refuses Muslim Request
Excerpt: Muslim parents demanded the abolition of pork in all the school cafeterias of a Montreal suburb. The mayor of the Montreal suburb of Dorval, has refused, and the town clerk sent a note to all parents to explain why...

Excerpt: " Syria is the greatest refugee crisis of our times, and children are the most visible victims," Oubai Shahbander, a former U.S. Department of Defense analyst, said last week at a conference on Syria cosponsored by the New America Foundation. "ISIS is absolutely trying to take advantage of the situation," he added. "It sees the children as potential recruits."

Meet the honor brigade, an organized campaign to silence debate on Islam. By Asra Q. Nomani
Excerpt: “You have shamed the community,” a fellow Muslim in Morgantown, W.Va., said to me as we sat in a Panera Bread in 2004. “Stop writing.” Then 38, I had just written an essay for The Washington Post’s Outlook section arguing that women should be allowed to pray in the main halls of mosques, rather than in segregated spaces, as most mosques in America are arranged. An American Muslim born in India, I grew up in a tolerant but conservative family. In my hometown mosque, I had disobeyed the rules and prayed in the men’s area, about 20 feet behind the men gathered for Ramadan prayers. Later, an all-male tribunal tried to ban me.

When the Fox Preaches. By Michael Devolin
Excerpt: “When the fox preaches, look to your geese.” –German proverb. No sooner had the blood dried (literally) from Islamic terrorist attacks in Paris, France than we hear of Oxford University Press’ decision to censor from its publications any reference pertaining to pork or pigs, and all this because such allusions may offend Muslims. So much for “this little piggy went to the market” and the “three little pigs” and Black Forest Ham. No friends in this game. Never mind that no pig ever, purposely, set out in the morning to offend Muslim sensitivities. After all, pigs are only animals, eh?

Niger protests over Charlie Hebdo Prophet Mohammed cartoon leaves four dead and 45 injured
Excerpt: Four people were killed and 45 injured in a day of violent protests in Niger's second city against French magazine Charlie Hebdo's publication of a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed.
Massaoudou Hassoumi, the interior minister, said a policeman and three civilians died in Friday's disturbances in Zinder in which three churches were ransacked and the French cultural centre was burned down

"Six Iranians, including a field commander, were killed in the Israeli strike," the source told The Anadolu Agency. He added that five Hezbollah members were also killed in the same Israeli attack.

Al Qaeda Turncoat: 'Sleeper Cells Are Waking Up Now'
Excerpt: Storm warned that these terrorists are determined and ready to give up their own lives. Storm said that many people think you only become a member of ISIS or al Qaeda by traveling to the Middle East to join the ranks, but that’s not true. “The problem is that it’s an ideology, it’s a faith, it’s a way of practicing Islam,” he said, explaining that some people who agree with this ideology become lone wolves

I doubt this--treason if true: SHOCK REPORT: US Paid $5 Billion & Released 5 Taliban Prisoners For Deserter Bergdahl (Video)
Excerpt: Lt. Colonel Tony Shaffer, author of The Last Line, and Ret. Col. David Hunt joined Bill O’Reilly to give an update on the Bowe Bergdahl prisoner swap. Lt. Colonel Shaffer told Bill the Obama administration paid $5 billion and released five top Taliban Gitmo detainees in exchange for deserter Bowe Bergdahl.

Tensions high ahead of Danish Pegida events
Excerpt: Despite rumours to the contrary and the cancellation of the weekly Pegida march in Dresden, the organizer of a Monday Pegida event in Copenhagen vowed that it will go on as planned. Nicolai Sennels, the man behind the Copenhagen march, told The Local that “fake press releases, fake Facebook pages etc are spreading false rumours” about the cancellation of his event, which he said is about expressing resistance to a “violent type of Islam” that his group fears is spreading across Europe. (Huh. Why would Sennels think that? ~Bob)

Worth Reading: Why are Arabs behind? Muna Al-Fuzai, Kuwait Times
When we talk about an invention or a new drug or a new discovery in astronomy or even a new mobile phone, we expect that this product was not manufactured or invented in the Arab world and we rarely see an Arab mind behind something like that. This is a shameful fact, and it led me to wonder what is wrong. Why we are behind in nearly everything we do, even meeting deadlines and appointments in work and social life. Why our image as Arabs is so damaged? Is there any way out? ... We are now very backward and hated. Why are Arabs behind the times? I believe there are many reasons for this. Firstly, extremism is an enemy of progress and certainly the emergence of extremist movements such as Al Qaeda, Taleban and IS had a negative role due to their calls for fighting non-Muslims, but I don't agree that this is the only reason. (This woman is clearly NOT representative of her culture! --Larry Greenberg. Alas. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Hezbollah announced the death of six of its commanders and fighters, including the son of its slain former military chief Imad Mughniyah, in what is believed to be an Israeli airstrike in southern Syria. The Lebanon-based Iranian proxy claimed "the martyrdom of a number of Mujahideen by the Zionist bombing in Quneitra, Syria," on Al Manar, the group's official news outlet. The Hezbollah fighters "came under rocket fire from helicopters" of "the Israeli enemy," the Hezbollah propaganda outlet noted. (Israel killing Muslims--bad Israel. Oh wait, these Muslims were fighting for Assad--bad Muslims! But wait. That meant they were fighting against ISIS. I'm getting a headache. ~Bob)

Undemocratic: Voters Strongly Suspect Released Gitmo Prisoners Will Attack U.S.
Excerpt: A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 29% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the Guantanamo prison camp should be closed. While that’s up slightly from May and up from 23% in April 2013, support for the prison’s closure is still down from a high of 44% in January 2009 when President Obama first announced his plans to do so. Fifty-three percent (53%) remain opposed to closing Gitmo. Nineteen percent (19%) are undecided. (As in so many things, the Un-Democrats don't care what the voters want. ~Bob)

Pelosi Pick Tied To Islamist 'Front' Group: Intelligence-committee choice linked to Muslim Brotherhood, more
Excerpt: When House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi selected the first Muslim ever to serve on the House’s Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, she chose a man with a history of questionable associations. Earlier, the Middle East Forum’s Islamist Watch project, run by expert Daniel Pipes, revealed Pelosi pick Rep. Andre Carson, D-Ind., received campaign contributions from numerous radical Muslim groups. For example, Carson received a $5,000 campaign contribution in 2008 from the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in a terror-financing trial in which the federal judge found “ample evidence” of CAIR’s links to Hamas.

  1. This is a copy of a post I placed on my blog in September of 2012. It still applies now, especially. "Just short of three years ago, I wrote a post about why we should go to war. In a nut shell, the only time we should go to war is when our interests are threatened to such an extent that violently forcing our will on a people or country becomes absolutely necessary. The only way to wage that war is in such a way as to quickly, efficiently, and decisively inflict our will on the enemy. There is no such thing as “collateral damage”. Either you are fighting to aid our cause or you are the enemy. The only end game is unconditional surrender. Period.

I challenged readers to study history: WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and Israel before and after the Camp David Peace Accord. I find the parallels between the aftermath of Chamberland’s and Jimmy Carter’s “foreign policy” and the current administration’s striking. Each one acted from reason and conciliation as the best solution. The result? The bad guys decided we were too weak to stop them. Violence erupted. Many lives were unnecessarily lost because the free world’s leaders believed that reason was the solution.

Ever try to reason with a two year old? It works just about as well with foreign policy. Dictators and fanatics only understand that you can and will hit them with everything y0u have. Only then will they cease from the violence. If they perceive that you have neither the will or the balls to strike, they will walk all over you. Read the writings from Hanoi sometime. Their tactics were almost completely based on dragging the war out until the French and then the Americans couldn’t take the losses any more. Sound familiar? It should. It was invented in America. How do you think we won the Revolutionary War?

The United States used to be the world power that held nations accountable. No longer. World violence is on the increase as a result. Make no mistake. We will pay a much higher toll in our children, our wealth, and our freedoms because we allow those who do not seek peace to operate with impunity."
