Today's Interesting Political News and Comment

Update

I was going to post last night, but couldn't get on BlogSpot. Google problems. Finally rebooting fixed it.

Still off O2, at 96% to 99% oxygen sats around the house, dropped to 91%-92% in last few minutes on treadmill Monday. Coughed only a little Monday and popped that back muscle spasm for the 4th time. Not as bad as the other three. Was able to do FEV numbers--and the average was over 1.50 LPS yesterday.

Britnye's dad coming for a visit today, staying for a week, so I may be busier than usual.

L (prefers not to use full name), whose story I posted in the blog has been going down hill, needs another kidney. And our friend Joe, from PA, who got a lung last August, was just diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer, can't do chemo because of the lung. Likely related to the immune suppressant drugs. He was doing great, a poster boy for transplants. Please add L, Joe and Brenda (Joe's wife) to your prayer list. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Important: Judicial Watch: Federal Attorney Says Backup Of Lois Lerner Emails Exist
Excerpt: Department of Justice attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service told Judicial Watch on Friday that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. The DOJ attorneys also acknowledged that the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is investigating this back-up system. (Onerous for whom? ~Bob)

Excerpt: Judicial Watch announced the following developments in the IRS’ missing emails investigation. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton stated: Department of Justice attorneys for the Internal Revenue Service told Judicial Watch on Friday that Lois Lerner’s emails, indeed all government computer records, are backed up by the federal government in case of a government-wide catastrophe. The Obama administration attorneys said that this back-up system would be too onerous to search. ... There are no “missing” Lois Lerner emails – nor missing emails of any of the other top IRS or other government officials whose emails seem to be disappearing at increasingly alarming rate. (As Bob would say, "Show me your shocked face." So, who stands up for truth, law and justice, since the DOJ is stonewalling a la orders? --Barb)

Excerpt: The Democratic National Committee is going after Ben Carson — who won a presidential straw poll of Republican voters in Iowa over the weekend — by drawing attention to colorful remarks made by the neurosurgeon. On Monday, the DNC sent a short email to reporters about “Ben Carson’s 2016 Momentum.” ...The DNC then drew attention to previous headlines about Carson, including “Ben Carson: Obamacare worst thing ‘since slavery’” and “Ben Carson: America’s now ‘very much like Nazi Germany.’”

Playing the Game Badly. By Erick Erickson
Excerpt: For example, when Maj. Gen. Harold Greene died, the Secretary of Defense did attend the funeral. Gen. Greene was the first General killed in combat since Vietnam. The SecDef needed to be there. But the President probably didn’t need to be fist bumping on the golf course while this was going on. Given the situation in Ferguson, MO, it made sense for the President to have someone at Michael Brown’s funeral service. But it also made sense to have someone at James Foley’s memorial service. After all, the President had just had a terrible couple of days in the news for looking angrily into a camera to denounce Mr. Foley’s decapitation, then rushing to a golf course. (NPD--he doesn't care about anyone, including Democrats, except Obama. ~Bob)

Dear Millennials: Hollywood, Your Favorite Bands, and Your College Professors Have Been Lying To You About Life. By John Hawkins
Excerpt: I feel sorry for Millennials. We are leaving them an almost insurmountable debt, an American Dream that seems tarnished, and chances are, they're not going to have it as good as their parents. However, we've done something even worse to these kids. We've left far too much of their education in life to Hollywood, musicians, and college professors who've passed on a skewed view of the world.

Do We Have a Sociopath in the White House? By Wayne Root
Excerpt: Either Obama is detached and just couldn’t care less…or he just doesn’t like America very much, so he’s purposely fiddling while Rome burns....This is most certainly “The Murder of the Middle Class.” And the death of America. (I don't think the writer is qualified to diagnose, certainly not long distance, Neither am I, but my best guess would be NPD--Narcissistic Personality Disorder. ~Bob)

Interesting History: France's Troubled Liberation. By Alan Riding
Excerpt: But in one high profile arena, that of media, culture and entertainment, the myth of la France rĂ©sistante was harder to sustain because so many well-known writers, artists and singers had worked under German rules in full view of the public. And this in a country where intellectuals and artists have long claimed the right to pontificate on all topics from the moral high ground. What every Parisian knew — and usually applauded — was that within months of the fall of France, the city’s cultural life was once again buzzing (albeit with Jewish artists first excluded and later persecuted).

Feds creating database to track hate speech on Twitter
The federal government is spending nearly $1 million to create an online database that will track “misinformation” and hate speech on Twitter. The National Science Foundation is financing the creation of a web service that will monitor “suspicious memes” and what it considers “false and misleading ideas,” with a major focus on political activity online. The “Truthy” database, created by researchers at Indiana University, is designed to “detect political smears, astroturfing, misinformation, and other social pollution.” (So POTUS, FLOTUS, DOJ, Lerner, Sharpton, Jackson, Politico, Soros-funded media attack groups, Reid, Pelosi (She spit in the House, remember) et al will be listed? Yeah, when a warm place freezes over or when Obama quits playing golf. The rub is in who determines "what" is hate speech. USSR here we are. Or the IV Reich. What happened to "freedom of speech" in the Constitution? Gone with the Wind. Maybe ISIS is right; we are "sheeple." Who is paying for this censorship that is supposed to "preserve open debate"? --Barb. Well, I'm sure some kinds of hate speech will still be protected by the First Amendment, like calls to murder Jews, Christians, whites, rednecks, Tea Party members, etc. ~Bob)

Be Very Suspicious of Obama’s Detached Appearance
Excerpt: There’s a Politico story. Again, it’s about Obama going to play golf so soon after delivering the fake speech on Jim Foley. And here’s the telltale line. Again, from the perspective that Obama hasn’t checked out, that this is a ruse, that this is a camouflage, Obama is simply appearing detached and checked out to lull everybody to sleep so that they’re not awake enough to see just how much he is doing, and I think, folks, you had better pay attention. (I think he's the first it's-all-about-me president, just doesn't care what anyone thinks. ~Bob)

Worth Reading: The Republican Racist Myth. By Mona Charen
Excerpt: Well, the House of Representatives censured the New York Democrat in 2010 by a vote of 333 to 79 (when the body was still majority Democrat) for violating 11 ethics rules and “bringing discredit to the House.” The New York Times called it a “staggering fall” for the senior Democrat. But fall-schmall, he’s since been reelected and will retire at his leisure. While chatting with Brian Lamb, Rangel dropped a few falsehoods as casually as cigar ash. This isn’t to pick on Rangel. He’s just illustrative.

Worth Reading: The Madness of 2008: A nation became unhinged by trivialities like “hope and change.” It has now awakened. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: America is suddenly angry at the laxity, incompetence, and polarizing politics of the Obama administration, the bad optics of the president putting about in his bright golf clothes while the world burns. Certainly, no recent president has failed on so many fronts — honesty, transparency, truthfulness, the economy, foreign policy, the duties of the commander-in-chief, executive responsibilities, and spiritual leadership.

Wake Up, Socially Liberal Fiscal Conservatives. The GOP isn’t the political party in debt denial. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: When George W. Bush added nearly $5 trillion in national debt in two terms you were scandalized. When Obama added more than that in one term, you yawned. When, in 2006, then-senator Obama condemned Bush’s failure of leadership and vowed to vote against raising the debt ceiling, you thought him a statesman. Obama, who wants to borrow trillions more, now admits that was purely a “political vote.” Yet when Republicans actually have the courage of Obama’s own convictions, you condemn them.

The college majors most and least likely to lead to underemployment
Excerpt: Employees with degrees in fields like English, general studies, and graphic design are among the most likely to report feeling "underemployed" at their current jobs. This is according to a recent survey of 68,000 workers by salary information firm PayScale. (Worth sharing with your high school or college student. A woman wrote to my blog a year or so ago, complaining that she had two master's degrees and was ABD for a PhD. "Let me guess in what," I replied. Sure enough, they were in social work and education. I explained the law of supply and demand to her. ~Bob

If Britain were a U.S. state, it would be the second-poorest, behind Alabama and before Mississippi. By Hunter Schwarz
Excerpt: The ranking, determined by Fraser Nelson, an editor of The Spectator magazine, was made by dividing the gross domestic product of each state by its population, and it took into account purchasing power parity for cost of living. Several other European countries were also included in the ranking. (Well, British Progressives have a head start on US Progressives in the fundamental transformation of Britain. Suggested reading: Life at the Bottom by Dr. Anthony Daniels, British psychiatrist who writes as Theodore Dalrymple. ~Bob)

Interesting: The 10 things we know 10 weeks before Election Day. By Chris Cillizza
Excerpt: With just 10 weeks separating us from our favorite biennial event, let's go through 10 things -- 10 weeks, 10 things....get it? -- that I think we know about the midterm election to come. They're listed in no particular order.

Juncker tells EU leaders to pick more female Commission candidates
Excerpt: Jean-Claude Juncker, the head of the European Commission, is urging EU member states to pick more female candidates to serve on his top team. (because, as every Progressive knows, you always get better people when you select based on gender, race or ethnicity than when you select based on character, experience and ability. The KKK would agree. ~Bob)

Important: Does democracy cause pension mismanagement?
Excerpt: Red states’ pension management records can be just as irresponsible as blue states’, to be sure. But a new paper suggests that the real threat may come from purple America. The University of Michigan’s Sutirtha Bagchi lays out a carefully quantified case that fiscal irresponsibility stems from too much political competition, not its lack. Bagchi compares data on 2,000 local pension plans in Pennsylvania with the vote shares each political party received in these same localities, for all major state and national races held between 1980 and 2009. (Vote buying by both parties...we are doomed. ~Bob)
Lost in America. By Frank Bruni
Excerpt: More and more I’m convinced that America right now isn’t a country dealing with a mere dip in its mood and might. It’s a country surrendering to a new identity and era, in which optimism is quaint and the frontier anything but endless. There’s a feeling of helplessness that makes the political horizon, including the coming midterm elections, especially unpredictable. Conventional wisdom has seldom been so useless, because pessimism in this country isn’t usually this durable or profound. (Despair and pessimism are where progressive states go. reading Life at the Bottom by Theodore Dalrymple or Wasting Police Time by PC David Copperfield shows that Britain is far ahead of us. ~Bob)

Excerpt: I really like National Public Radio....and I like Public Television too. They are the only source I've found that is willing to spend the time to discuss an issue in detail. Yes, I know that 90 percent of the time they are championing liberal causes, but at least they are talking about it! So, as most of you know Burger King is planning to leave the U.S. for Canada. The King is telling Prince Obama that he's had enough of America's 35% corporate tax rate and find Canada's 15% tax rates far more friendly for the corporate bottom line. (Haven't gone into a Burger King even for coffee since they killed a veterans' documentary unfriendly to Kerry by pulling ads from the program during the 2004 election. They reap what they sow. ~Bob)

Excerpt: The Democrats’ corporate hero, Warren Buffett, is playing a part in American-based Burger King buying Canadian-based Tim Horton’s. Naturally the Democrat supporter is going to heed President Obama’s call for “economic patriotism” and move Tim Horton’s HQ to the U.S. so the company can pay more taxes in the states, right? Actually, it’s going to end up the other way around:

Worth Reading: Blacks Must Confront Reality. By Walter E. Williams
Excerpt: This is an important question because if we conclude that racial discrimination is the major cause of black problems when it isn't, then effective solutions will be elusive forever. To begin to get a handle on the answer, let's pull up a few historical facts about black Americans.
In 1950, female-headed households were 18 percent of the black population. Today it's close to 70 percent. One study of 19th-century slave families found that in up to three-fourths of the families, all the children lived with the biological mother and father. In 1925 New York City, 85 percent of black households were two-parent households. (Dr. Williams is a black economist, former department head at George Mason University, grew up in a poor, black project in Philly. I recommend his autobiography, Up from the Projects. ~Bob)

Rick Perry Puts Out Most Brilliant Political Ad Ever
http://politicaloutcast.com/2014/08/rick-perry-puts-brilliant-political-ad-ever/
Excerpt: Rick Perry’s Super PAC is now selling $25 t-shirts with his mugshot on the front.
“Wanted for securing the border and defeating Democrats,” the front of the shirt reads.
On the back is the mugshot of Rosemary Lehmberg, the Travis County District Attorney that Perry asked to step down after she was arrested and accused of drunk driving in 2013.

US Military Blows Up Hypersonic Weapon After Failed Test Launch
Excerpt: The U.S. Army launched a prototype hypersonic weapon test from Alaska on Monday (Aug. 25), only to destroy the superfast vehicle seconds later when something went wrong. The Advanced Hypersonic Weapon, as it is called, blasted off from Alaska's Kodiak Launch Complex just after 4 a.m. EDT (0800 GMT) on Monday, but was commanded to explode as a safety measure when an anomaly was detected in the test flight. (Photo of explosion included. --Barb)

Ferguson News

I suspected this one: Sadly Believable Satire Story Fools Me
Excerpt: Ok, they did it again and got me. I regret to inform you that the story below was from a satire site. I try to be careful about such things, but sometimes in my haste to get you the most news in a timely manner, something slips though. I apologize and hope you will accept this correction. The sad part was that it really wasn’t out of the realm of believability for Holder. ... Ferguson Gang Leader Admits “Eric Holder Paid Us To Start Riots” (This story was in my last post. I was suspicious, labeled it "Needs confirmation." Apparently from a "satire" site, though not very funny. ~Bob)

Worth Reading: Facts vs. Visions. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: The political left has been campaigning against the use of force since at least the 18th century. So it is not surprising that they are now arguing that heavily armed or aggressive police forces only inflame protesters and thus provoke violence. Statisticians have long warned that correlation is not causation, but they have apparently warned in vain.

White Marine Brutally Beaten by Black Mob, In Apparent ‘Revenge’ Attack for Ferguson
Excerpt: A White former Marine suffered a severe brain injury after a group of Black men beat him at a Mississippi restaurant in an apparent ‘revenge’ attack for the killing of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.... Weems was already inside the resturant when Knighten was approached by another patron who said the men should leave since a group of Black diners were “upset by the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and it wasn’t a safe place for whites,” Knighten told the Associated Press. ... Police spokesperson said: the attack “does not appear to be a hate crime.”

Funeral Pastors Compare Michael Brown’s Death To Jesus Christ’s Crucifixion [VIDEO]
http://dailycaller.com/2014/08/25/funeral-pastors-compare-michael-browns-death-to-jesus-christs-crucifixion-video/#ixzz3BUk02Mdi
A crowd of family, friends, music stars, civil rights leaders and preachers gathered at the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church on Monday for the memorial of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old robbery suspect who was fatally shot by local police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo. Brown’s uncle, Pastor Charles Ewing, gave a passionate eulogy and made parallels of his nephew’s life and that of the life of Jesus Christ. (I had dinner out last night and the restaurant had one TV on CNN which I never watch. It took me 1 hour to finish my meal. The coverage was on Brown and his funeral; 2 minutes or so on the damage in Napa, maybe 5 minutes on maybe knowing who is the British dude that cut off Foley's head, and then the rest of the time reverted to race-baiting coverage. --Barb. Jesus was no thug. --JB)

The Lie Behind the Lynch Mob. By John Perazzo
Excerpt: The study did not distinguish between whites and Hispanics,[2] but instead categorized all members of those two demographics as “white.” So, for the moment, let’s refer to this group as “W&H” (Whites & Hispanics) rather than “whites.” During the course of the entire 23-year period examined in the study, 56% of all suspects killed by police were W&H, and 42% were black. Over time, W&H constituted an ever-increasing percentage of those who were killed by police: In 1978, they accounted for 50% of all such killings. By 1988 that figure had climbed to 59%, and by 1998 it stood at 62%. ... In 1998 specifically, 3.2 out of every 10,000 black officers killed a black suspect sometime that year, whereas only 1.4 out of every 10,000 W&H officers killed a black suspect.

Barack Obama: President of the United States of Black America
Excerpt: Dillon Taylor, 20, who is from Salt Lake, was exiting 7-Eleven with his brother and cousin, Adam Thayne, around 7 p.m. on Monday, when Salt Lake City police arrived, responding to a report of a man waving a gun in the area. The officers ordered the men to the ground. (Report I heard on Mark Levin last night commented on this case and the disparity of WH and DOJ and NAACP response. Dillon was about to become a father. He and his brothers were reportedly on their way to visit their parents' graves. Dillon had ear phones in and did not hear the cop's demands initially, as his brothers did. He reached to pull his pants up and remove his cell phone and was shot to death. Where are the white folks screaming and looting? The title of this article says it all. And who wants USBA? The New Black Panthers, folks. Read their documents. We don't have to have ISIS infiltrators though no doubt here. They are organized in the Community, fanned with race hate and primed to go for that ultimate transformation. --Barb)

.Excerpt: There is always racism everywhere, but America may be the least racist country on earth. For black people to think otherwise is to believe lies created to keep a narrative in place. The narrative gives the people who create it power and an appearance of virtue — Holder, Sharpton, Jackson, the news media and the rest. (As my friend John, a black Marine combat vet of Vietnam said to me, "Bob, there's a lot wrong with America. But if you don't like it here, if it's not working for you, why wouldn't you go live someplace else?" ~Bob

Worth Reading: Cop Block
Excerpt: Does anyone remember Detective Melvin Santiago? He was a Jersey City police officer who was shot to death just a month ago, on July 13th. Santiago was white. His killer, Lawrence Campbell, was black. Does anyone recall Obama appearing before national television and calling for justice for Officer Santiagos family? Does anyone recall Eric Holder rushing to Jersey City to see that justice was done? ... Over the past 60 days, there have been five reported deaths of police officers by gunshot in the US. Of those, four were white officers who were murdered by black men. Blacks complain that white officers threat black men more aggressively on the street. You can draw your own conclusions on that one, as well.

Obamacare News

Obamacare curveball : Sign of the times: The Cubs' rain-delay disaster was due, in part, to the health-care law
Excerpt: Turns out, the damage done to the field wasn’t just the result of typical Cubby incompetence. Earlier that night, Cubs management had sent home 10 workers, in part to keep them under 30 hours a week — and avoid paying health benefits under the Affordable Care Act.
Which is exactly what’s happening in business after business across America.

Medical Device Tax Not Producing Projected Revenue
Excerpt: One of the many new taxes in the Affordable Care Act is the Medical Device Tax, a 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device sales. Before the law was implemented, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimated that it would take in $1.2 billion from the new tax in 2013. But according to a report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), the government took in just $913.4 million, 23 percent less than the IRS had expected. Kyle Pomerleau, an economist at the Tax Foundation, explains what the tax covers: pacemakers and defibrillators, for example, are taxed, while eyeglasses and other direct consumer purchases are not. That might seem simple, but the tax is actually quite complicated: The tax includes a number of exemptions and safe harbors, making applicability confusing for businesses and manufacturers.

Excerpt: Medicare Advantage consists of private plans in which Medicare beneficiaries can choose to enroll. They were made more popular by the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, which also introduced Medicare’s drug benefit (Part D). If not for Medicare Advantage, beneficiaries would be stuck in the traditional Medicare Part A (physician) and Part B (hospital) plans, where the federal government determines how much to pay providers according to bureaucratic formulae. It’s sort of like Gosplan, the old Soviet economic pricing and planning mechanism. To escape this fate, one third of Medicare beneficiaries now choose Medicare Advantage plans. Obamacare (“the ACA”) was supposed to squeeze those seniors out of their plans in order to finance Obamacare. However, when the time came, the Administration balked. Meghan McCarthy of Morning Consult explains this “Potomac Two-Step“:

You're Greener than Gore News

Obama Pursuing Climate Accord in Lieu of Treaty
Excerpt: In preparation for this agreement, to be signed at a United Nations summit meeting in 2015 in Paris, the negotiators are meeting with diplomats from other countries to broker a deal to commit some of the world’s largest economies to enact laws to reduce their carbon pollution. But under the Constitution, a president may enter into a legally binding treaty only if it is approved by a two-thirds majority of the Senate. (Look at how these people speak. If you cannot get the Senate to ratify a treaty (technically, passing a resolution of ratification), then the United States is not a party to that treaty. Period. Full stop. The Constitution is not iffy on this. This part is not a suggestion. There is no wiggle room. There are a lot of nonsensical or highly exaggerated chain e-mails accusing the president of working with foreigners to subvert the U.S. Constitution. But this time you've got the foreigners and administration officials themselves confirming it on the front page of the New York Times! -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt

Excerpt: Lois Lerner’s Blackberry was intentionally destroyed after Congress had begun its probe into IRS targeting of conservative groups, a senior IRS lawyer acknowledged in a sworn declaration.

Undocumented Democrat News

Gov. Jerry Brown to Illegals: ‘You’re All Welcome in California
Excerpt: On Monday evening, California Governor Jerry Brown said all Mexicans, including illegal immigrants, are welcome in California. (With taxpayers fleeing the state, who will provide them with food, shelter and health care? Go look in the mirror--or, rather, at your grandkids. ~Bob)

Religion of Peace News

Interesting: Arab Nations Strike in Libya, Surprising U.S.
Excerpt: Twice in the last seven days, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have secretly launched airstrikes against Islamist-allied militias battling for control of Tripoli, Libya, four senior American officials said, in a major escalation of a regional power struggle set off by Arab Spring revolts. ... The United States, the officials said, was caught by surprise: Egypt and the Emirates, both close allies and military partners, acted without informing Washington, leaving the Obama administration on the sidelines. (Why would they tell Obama, knowing he favors the Muslim Brotherhood? WE have no influence now, Obama having alienated all sides there. ~Bob)

Interesting: A Necessary Response to ISIS. By The NYT Editorial Board
Sounds like they are calling for "A Coalition of the Willing." ~Bob. Excerpt: The United States cannot go it alone in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the extremist group known as ISIS whose ruthlessness and killing has dumbfounded and horrified the civilized world. American airstrikes and other assistance from the United States have brought some measure of relief to religious minorities and others that ISIS has threatened. But defeating, or even substantially degrading, ISIS will require an organized, longer-term response involving a broad coalition of nations, including other Muslim countries, and addressing not only the military threat but political and religious issues. (Holy Schmoley, Batman, even the NEW YORK TIMES editors have figured out that ISIS is a real problem for everyone, and something really, really must be done to smash them, and that (here's the real kicker) some Muslim countries need to get on this bandwagon too, and with more than rhetoric. When I see this, I actually have hope that maybe this will catch on, and more European nations will really pony up serious support and, best of all, some Muslim nations will at the least stop supporting these maniacs, and maybe a few others will do something, however modest, even more significant. These nutcases can be beaten, they are not all-powerful, they don't have 100K trained men and full capacity in artillery or air power, and a really determined, will supplied, well led, coalition of Kurds, Iraquis, and just maybe a few others, with total air support, satellite spy availability, etc, can break them, start them running, and chase them until they drop. We can all hope for this. --Del)

Worth Reading: If You Want To Stop ISIS, Here Is What It Will Take: Killing the Islamic State requires neither more nor less than waging war. By Angelo Codevilla
Excerpt: The Islamic State’ video-dissemination of one of its goons beheading an American is an existential challenge from which we cannot afford to shrink. Until the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS) did that, it made sense for the U.S. government to help contain it because the Islamic world, which the IS threatens most directly, must destroy it sooner or later. But internetting that beheading was a gory declaration of America’s impotence—a dare-by-deed that is sure to move countless young persons around the globe to get in on killing us, anywhere they can. The longer the Islamic State survives, the more will take up its dare. Either we kill the IS, or we will deserve the wave of terrorism that will engulf us. (Wow... beautiful, just beautiful. But with this President, chances run from slim to none. Closer to none. --Del)

SAS and US special forces forming hunter killer unit to 'smash Islamic State'
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/sas-special-forces-forming-hunter-4097083#ixzz3BLSltSjC
Excerpt: Elite British and US special forces troops are forming a hunter killer unit called Task Force Black – its orders: “Smash the Islamic State.” The undercover warriors will aim to “cut the head off the snake” by hitting the command structure of the Islamist terror group responsible for a trail of atrocities across Iraq and Syria, reports the Sunday People. (And they will do it wearing flip-flops, to keep Obama's "No boots on the ground" pledge. ~Bob)

American woman is being held hostage in Syria
Excerpt: The Islamic State militant group is holding hostage a young American woman who was doing humanitarian aid work in Syria, a family representative said Tuesday. The 26-year-old woman is the third American known to have been kidnapped by the militant group.

American Douglas McAuthur McCain Dies Fighting for ISIS in Syria
Excerpt: Photos of McCain's passport and of his body -- which feature a distinctive neck tattoo -- have been seen by NBC News. According to an activist linked to the Free Syrian Army who also saw the body and travel document, McCain was among three foreign jihadis fighting with ISIS who died during the battle. (If you made up a name like that for a novel, no one would believe it. What a name or a California multiculturalist! ~Bob)

Obama's Iraqi Mission Impossible
Excerpt: Anthony Shaffer, a former lieutenant-colonel in US military intelligence who worked on covert operations, said: “I’m told it was almost a 30-day delay from when they said they wanted to go to when he finally gave the green light. They were ready to go in June to grab the guy [Foley] and they weren’t permitted.” Another US defence source said: "..../. These people are a bunch of academics who endlessly analyse stuff and ordering up another deep-thinking paper but can't decide what to order for lunch."

Boko Haram leader says ruling Nigerian town by Islamic law
Excerpt: "Allah has granted us success in Gwoza because we have risen to do Allah's work," Shekau says, reading out a statement off a notebook, with two masked gunmen on each side of him and three four wheel drive vehicles behind him in thinly forested bush. "Allah commands us to rule Gwoza by Islamic law. In fact, he commands us to rule the rest of the world, not only Nigeria, and now we have started."

Nigerian troops cross border after Boko Haram clashes
Excerpt: Reports claimed that the troops had joined thousands of citizens fleeing the fighting, but Nigeria said they were conducting a "tactical manoeuvre". Clashes are said to be continuing in the border town of Gamboru Ngala.

European anti-Semitism: it is the new black
Excerpt: A Tweet from Yasmina Haifi: ... Which translated into English means roughly:
ISIS has nothing to do with Islam. It’s a preconceived plan by Zionists who want to deliberately blacken Islam’s name. Who is Yasmina Haifi? She’s an official at the Dutch Ministry of Justice who serves as project leader at the NetherlandsNational Cyber Security Center. And she thinks Isis is a Zionist plot to make Islam look bad.

Fears for Saudi Christian converts
Excerpt: Friends of Christian convert Khalid Muidh Alzahrani fear the refugee has been abducted from his Christchurch flat and taken back to Saudi Arabia – home to the Islamic holy city of Mecca – where it is against the law for Muslims to abandon their faith. Two Saudi Arabian asylum seekers at opposite ends of the country have suddenly flown home, and friends are convinced they have been forcibly repatriated because they'd turned their backs on Islam. Tony Wall and Blair Ensor investigate. (Muhammad commanded: “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him” (Bukhari 9.84.57). --Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org.)

Prominent Islamic Cleric Justifies Foley Beheading: “Islam is a Religion of Beheading”
http://freedomoutpost.com/2014/08/prominent-islamic-cleric-justifies-foleys-beheading-islam-religion-beheading/
Excerpt: If you recall, we covered a Muslim imam who described how to kill the infidels, telling his disciples to enjoy themselves while cutting the throats of their enemies. Now, jihadi cleric Hussein bin Mahmoud claims "Islam is a religion of beheading. "It's not that we needed this cleric to tell us this, but once again, I don't see Muslims out in the streets in mass saying this is not so. In fact, the silence of their opposition to any of what Islamists are doing throughout the world is deafening. Their silence is complicity. (The moderates are unarmed and scared. A few brave ones speak out--have had their stories in the blog. ~Bob)

Hollywood Condemns Muhammad
Excerpt: Nearly 200 people from the entertainment industry (including Sylvester StalloneArnold Schwarzenegger, and many others) have signed a statement condemning the seventh article of the charter of Hamas as an "ideology of hatred and genocide." ... Interestingly, the quotation from article seven was taken directly from Muhammad himself. Hence, all of these entertainers have condemned Muhammad, Islam, and the Quran.
