Lots of important political news and comment today

Counted the pills I take daily now. Every day I take at least 31, but it varies with as many as 25 more. The extras are because some are only three days a week, one of the steroids comes in 1 mg or 0.5 mg, depending on the dose I'm taking, so right now I take either 6 or 12 a day.. There are some PRN pills. Eleven of the types are vitamins, Tylenol, Mucinex, Claritin, etc that are OTC. The others are scripts. I've turned into my grandmother. In fact, I've out did her in pills. Then there are two-a-days: FEV numbers on the spirometer, temp, nose spray, Neti pot, Metamucil. Plus once daily weight, blood sugar, nasty drink. And PT rehab three times a week. But I'm still here! ~Bob

General News and Comment

Must Read: The Day Dream and the Nightmare. By Peggy Noonan
Google the title if you hit a paywall. You'll want to share this one. ~Bob. Excerpt: I don't know if we sufficiently understand how weird and strange, how historically unparalleled, this presidency has become. We've got a sitting president who was just judged in a major poll to be the worst since World War II. The worst president in 70 years! Quinnipiac University's respondents also said, by 54% to 44%, that the Obama administration is not competent to run the government

Book Recommendation: Wasting Police Time: The Crazy World of the War on Crime. By PC David Copperfield
This well-written, entertaining and very funny book was written by a British Bobby, PC Stuart Davidson, formerly of the Staffordshire Police, about 'Newtown' (actually Burton upon Trent). He had to do his blog, on which this book and a sequel Wasting More Police Time, are based, under a pen name to protect his job. Eventually the brass figured out who he was, but by then he had had a job line up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where he is a much happier cop. ( It was recommended by British psychiatrist Anthony Daniels (writing as Theodore Dalrymple). Daniels was carrying a copy when he ran into two plainclothes officers. They told him it was a great book. He asked how much was true. "Every word," they replied. This is policing in progressive Britain, where the Bobbies spend 90% of their time doing paperwork to CYA senior officers, filing administrative "detections," and enforcing political correctness, diversity and multiculturalism. The rest they get to spend catching bad guy who get slapped on the wrist or ever in preventing crime. It is a cautionary tale for us. Well worth your time.

Ben Stein: CNN Has 'Flipped Out" In A Leftist Direction
Excerpt: CNN has been transformed from a sober and respected news network into a shrill and biased mouthpiece for liberals, according to actor, author and economist Ben Stein....It wasn't that long ago that they just flipped out in a leftward direction and in a provocative direction and [are] always endlessly, endlessly, endlessly whipping up grievances…. "They just assume the police are wrong, white people are wrong, any Republican is wrong, any businessman is wrong. They just will always play on that nerve." (Welcome to Pravda, USBAR. (US Black American Republic). --Barb)

Time Warner internet outage affects millions of US broadband customers: America’s second biggest internet service provider suffered national outages Wednesday morning
Excerpt: Internet service went down for millions of Americans on Wednesday morning after cable company Time Warner suffered a major outage. The company, which has almost 12m broadband subscribers nationwide, said it was investigating the cause of the outage, which apparently began around4.30am ET. By 6am, it said “services were largely restored”, but an hour later, said it was still “working to restore services to all areas”. By 10am, the company was telling customers the outage had been resolved, but some social media users said access was still spotty. (Yesterday Google reported issues. Today Time Warner....Barb. Thought the Google issues were my computer. ~Bob)

Researchers: Unemployment Rate Higher Than Reported
The second reason is that unemployment numbers are pure BS; we all know it and so too does science: This problem dates back to a 1994 redesign of the survey when it went from paper-based to computer-based, although neither the researchers nor anyone else has been able to offer a reason for why the redesign has affected the numbers. What the researchers found was that, for whatever reason, unemployed workers, who are surveyed multiple times are most likely to respond to the survey when they are first given it and ignore the survey later on.... It also seems to have increased the number of people who once would have been designated as officially unemployed but today are labeled as out of the labor force, which means they are neither working nor looking for work. (So, the government lies, what's new?--Barb. Should report the % of Americans working FT now vs. in 2008. ~Bob)

Excerpt: The leader of a prominent liberal super PAC on Wednesday defended taking money from billionaire George Soros while simultaneously condemning conservatives for benefiting from the fortunes of the Koch Brothers. During a Twitter exchange Wednesday, Brad Woodhouse of the Soros-backed American Bridge 21st Century argued that it is okay for his group to accept money from liberal billionaires because, unlike the Koch Brothers, these donors are “not looking to screw the middle class to enrich themselves.” Conservatives argue that thinking is hypocritical.

IRS ethics lawyer facing possible disbarment, accused of lying
Excerpt: The disciplinary arm of the D.C. Court of Appeals has recommended that Takisha McGee, a section manager in the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, lose her law license over the charge, which stems from a personal injury case she worked about a year before she joined the tax agency. Ms. McGee, who recently gave a speech to the Florida bar titled “When your license to practice before the IRS is on the line,” acknowledged in a phone interview Tuesday that her own job is on the line as she fights disbarment proceedings.

Hayden is accused of raping a minor “almost daily” since March 2013 and taking her virginity when she was 11 years old. TMZ reports the girl is Hayden’s daughter. (Just Hollywood sharing their values. Will Whoopi Goldberg defend him, saying it wasn't "Rape rape" as she did about Roman Polanski who raped a drugged 13-year-old? ~Bob)

Welcome to Franklin, Va., population 8,638 — and one mine-resistant vehicle
Excerpt: Not too far from Hampton Roads and just nine miles north of the North Carolina border, the rural city of Franklin, Va., is home to farmland, 8,638 people and one military-grade, mine-resistant vehicle.

Stalin-era mass grave found in Ukrainian castle
Excerpt: Polish and Ukrainian scientists have unearthed a mass grave containing up to a thousand victims of Stalinist terror in a castle once used as a secret police prison. Among the victims found in the grave are Polish soldiers, and the Polish press has already called the find a "new Katyn" in reference to a massacre of thousands of Poles by Stalin in 1940. The Katyn massacre still clouds Polish-Russian relations. (If you don't know, the communists shot Polish officers and NCOs at Katyn so there would be less resistance to the communists in the future. Two other groups of Polish prisoners held by the Soviets simply vanished. One group was traced to a ship going out on the Baltic...~Bob)

Excerpt: The White House has announced that a Union Army officer killed at the Battle of Gettysburg will receive the Medal of Honor next month in a White House ceremony. The decision to honor 1st. Lt. Alonzo Cushing, originally of Wisconsin, brings a successful end to a campaign by Cushing's descendants and Civil War buffs that began in the late 1980s with a series of letters to then-Wisconsin Sen. William Proxmire.

Worth Reading: Obama’s Hazy Sense of History. For the president, belief in historical predetermination substitutes for action. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: President Obama doesn’t know much about history. In his therapeutic 2009 Cairo speech, Obama outlined all sorts of Islamic intellectual and technological pedigrees, several of which were undeserved. He exaggerated Muslim contributions to printing and medicine, for example, and was flat-out wrong about the catalysts for the European Renaissance and Enlightenment. He also believes history follows some predetermined course, as if things always get better on their own. (Dr. Hanson is a well-respected and frequently-publshed classical historian. His A War Like No Other: How the Athenians and Spartans Fought the Peloponnesian War is terrific. ~Bob)

Ukraine rebel leader reportedly admits thousands of Russians fighting with separatists
Excerpt: A leader of pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine reportedly has admitted that thousands of Russians have been fighting alongside his troops. Alexander Zakharchenko told Russian television that he estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 Russians had joined the ranks, and claimed that they were either former Russian service members or current military personnel on leave, according to the BBC. However, he also insisted that any Russians who went to flight did so voluntarily and not on orders from superiors in Moscow. (When asked to comment, Obama said, "Let me be clear...hey, look, Ferguson!" ~Bob"

Hillary’s nagging problem. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: As the foreign policy debacles continue to add up, Hillary Clinton’s barriers to the presidency rise. The last time she tried to distance herself from President Obama she went scrambling back, which is not exactly the sort of resoluteness one wants in a commander in chief. (If a former boss can intimidate her, imagine how she’ll fare with presidential-level push-back.) For now she is lying low, but should she come out of hiding, she needs to answer these questions:

Worth Reading: Navy with a mission in mind. By George F. Will
Excerpt: Russia’s ongoing dismemberment of Ukraine and the Islamic State’s erasing of Middle Eastern borders have distracted attention from the harassment of U.S. Navy aircraft by Chinese fighter jets over the South China Sea. Beijing calls this sea, and the Yellow and East China seas, the “near seas,” meaning China’s seas. The episodes involving aircraft are relevant to one of Adm. Jonathan Greenert’s multiplying preoccupations — CUES, meaning Code for Unplanned Encounters at Sea. This is designed to prevent incendiary accidents, a topic of special interest during this month’s centennial commemorations of the beginning of a war that, ignited by miscalculations, ruined the 20th century.

FBI Examining Whether Russia Is Tied to JP Morgan Hacking
Excerpt: Russian hackers attacked the U.S. financial system in mid-August, infiltrating and stealing data from JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) and at least one other bank, an incident the FBI is investigating as a possible retaliation for government-sponsored sanctions, according to two people familiar with the probe. ... In one case, the hackers used a software flaw known as a zero-day vulnerability in one of the banks’ websites. They then plowed through layers of elaborate security to steal the data, a feat security experts said appeared far beyond the capability of ordinary criminal hackers.

Have it His Way. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: Like Pfizer and other companies, Burger King has figured out that the quickest way to escape Obama's America is to buy a business in another western nation and order up a new set of letterheads with a foreign address. President Tee-Time will doubtless give a speech at a fundraiser demonizing Burger King and reminding them that in this burg there's only one king and his slogan is "Have it my way!" .... A country that was once a byword for dynamism and energy has chosen not decline but something closer to suicide.

Obama’s use of executive authority is about to become a real political issue. By Aaron Blake
Excerpt: President Obama is weighing a big-time executive action on immigration that has both Democrats and Republicans anxious. He's also pursuing a major international climate-change agreement without ratification by Congress. And it's not yet clear whether the White House will seek congressional authorization for military action in Syria that appears increasingly likely. Yes, we are finally entering into what could be a very big debate about executive authority -- and with the 2014 election just weeks away.

Excerpt: The 153,323,000 total benefit-takers at the end of 2012, said the Census Bureau, equaled 49.5 percent of the population. The 150,026,000 taking benefits other than veterans’ benefits equaled about 48.5 percent of the population. When America re-elected President Barack Obama in 2012, we had not quite reached the point where more than half the country was taking benefits from the federal government. (As I said after the 2012 election, the "loot the future" voters now outnumber us. But the Democrats plan to make a majority government employees or government depended, has a fatal flaw. It will collapse in fiscal ruin. And the country with it. Buy ammo and canned goods. ~Bob)

Excerpt: In a press conference, Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer confirmed those involved in the police shooting that left a suspect and “COPS” TV show crew member dead. The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Cortez Washington. (If everyone was white or black, this would be news for two days. One shot also hit Dion.It turned out that shot could not have come from Washington, because the suspect was only armed with an Airsoft pistol, which fires plastic pellets.

"Does Not Appear to be a Hate Crime": 20 Blacks Beat Up 2 Iraq Vets for Being White
Excerpt: Predictably, the police chief is claiming that this incident is not a hate crime, despite witnesses saying that racial slurs were hurled at the two victims as they were being beaten up. That’s one of the things police look for in determining which crimes are “hate crimes.” If there were racial or other slurs hurled at the victims in the midst of the attack, police would generally designate it a hate crime. Especially if the victims are black, and the suspects are white. If the victims happen to be white and the suspects black, it’s very rare for such an instance to be deemed a hate crime.

Voters Think Justice Department Motivated Mostly by Politics
Excerpt: Most voters have an unfavorable opinion of the U.S. Department of Justice and think it is more interested in politics than in serving justice. Voters are also strongly opposed to more federal control over their local police. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 38% of Likely U.S. Voters have at least a somewhat favorable opinion of the Justice Department, while 53% view it unfavorably. (Gee, I can't think why. Maybe they are influenced by the right wing tilt of the mainstream media? ~Bob)

On Sunday night, Ivy League professor Anthea Butler used the MTV Video Music Awards as an occasion to send an odious 101-character text message to the world. Butler, an associate professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania, was frustrated that Ariana Grande won the 2014 award for best pop video for a song called “Problem,” reports Campus Reform. In response, Butler tweeted: “First they shootin us in the streets, and then they taking all the video awards for sorry songs y’all.” (How did the song go? “They have to be carefully taught.” And pay megabucks for it. --Barb. Wonder if she is aware that, according to the FBI, blacks, who make up 13% of the population commit about 53% of the murders, and are twice as likely to kill a white victim as a white person is to kill a black person. But the vast majority of blacks "shot in the streets" are shot by other blacks. No one cares about them. Her twiitter address is @antheabutler. ~Bob)

No excerpt...just that I'm outraged because I'm not allowed to say anything. I went to integrated schools growing fact, exceptional schools with exceptional students. Success wasn't a was expected, no...demanded. Given this environment it's amazing that there was a parallel culture of mediocrity, one that refused to do the hard work and take responsibility, instead spending time dancing, fornicating, and playing basketball. And those were the non-violent ones. Fast forward 40 years, and 55 years into the war on poverty, 3 generations of feral children, and now I'm not allowed to talk. --George

Would It Kill You to Hire More Black Cops? (Yes). By Ann Coulter
Excerpt: As Brown may or may not have said seconds before his death: I give up.
If the Ferguson police are forced to hire more minorities and women for the sake of diversity, the one thing we can be sure of is that more black people will be murdered, raped and assaulted.
Someone’s got to say it, so it might as well be me: I’m against more black people being murdered, raped and assaulted.

Rev. Al Gets It Right. By Michael Reagan

He pointedly condemned the violence and rioting that came in response to Brown’s death.

A problem bigger than Ferguson: Defiant black youth tangling with cops often come from fatherless families. By Dr. Ben Carson
Excerpt: Once we get the most powerful economic engine the world has ever seen back on track with sensible economic policies, we should devote some of the tax revenues generated to child care facilities, which will allow many of those unwed mothers to get their General Education Development or higher degree and become self-supporting. There are also a number of programs across the nation that offer free classes that teach social and job skills, which will give many of the young men some different options. ....We have a social crisis brewing if we continue down the path we are on now, but we have the power to change our downward course with true compassion that allows people to rise and escape dependency.

Excerpt: Internal Revenue Service officials must enforce a new Obamacare tax designed to collect money from medical device manufacturers, but they’re losing money because they don’t know which companies even qualify for the tax, a new audit shows. Undocumented Democrat News

Worth Reading: Obama’s immigration decision could roil 2014 election. By Karen Tumulty and Robert Costa
Excerpt: Both political parties are in a state of high anxiety about the possibility that President Obama will allow millions of illegal immigrants to remain in the country, fearing that White House action on the issue could change the course of November’s midterm elections. In the past few days, Democratic candidates in nearly every closely fought Senate race have criticized the idea of aggressive action by Obama. Some strategists say privately that it would signal that he has written off the Democrats’ prospects for retaining control of the chamber, deciding to focus on securing his legacy instead. (Keep in mind that, by assuming that he alone has the power to legalize millions of people who entered the country illegally, Obama's taking another hatchet to the concept of checks and balances in the Constitution. Just yesterday we learned this White House asserts it can join international treaties that the U.S. Senate will not ratify. Don't take it from me; take it from the New York Times staff: -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.)

Obama’s Illegals Swamp Blue-Collar City in Massachusetts
Excerpt: President Barack Obama is dumping hundreds of Guatemalan migrants into the blue-collar town of LynnMass., boosting its education costs, forcing cuts in government services, and helping raise rental prices for Americans, according to the city’s mayor. Many “are illiterate in both English and Spanish [and] the odds of us getting them to pass a 10th grade math test are negligible,” Judith Flanagan Kennedy, the mayor of Lynn, told reporters Aug. 27. Most of the city’s residents “are very afraid to speak publicly about it, because they don’t want to be branded as a racist,” Kennedy said. (Racist? What about all the people who obeyed the law and emigrated legally, paying all the fees, getting the inoculations, filling out all the forms….So it is okay for some to break the law and others who follow the law are fools? One of my favorites: “Thomas More: ... And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned around on you--where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country's planted thick with laws from coast to coast--man's laws, not God's--and if you cut them down, ... d'you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake.” ― Robert BoltA Man for All Seasons --Barb)

Excerpt: Mayra Alejandra Lopez Morales initially was charged with felony election misconduct after registering and voting as a non-U.S. citizen. ... Her case was part of Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz's statewide investigation in voter fraud that concluded earlier this year. The effort, conducted with investigators from the Iowa of Criminal Investigation, resulted in evidence of 117 illegally cast votes, charges filed in a few dozen cases and, to date, fewer than 10 criminal convictions. It cost $250,000. (Tweet said she was an illegal. Nothing in the story about that either way, of course. ~Bob)

Excerpt: On Monday, Mexico President Enrique Peña Nieto called on other states to “evolve” like California so the United States can be more like his home country. Appearing with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and California Governor Jerry Brown in Los Angeles, Peña Nieto called for amnesty legislation and more open borders while blasting governors who have taken a tough stance on illegal immigration. “This is the other Mexico,” Peña Nieto reportedly “said of the United States, which is property to an estimated 11 million Mexican immigrants,” according to the Los Angeles Times. (So, we should have immigration--and voter ID--laws like Mexico has? ~Bob)

"You're Greener Than Gore" News

One Democrat's gamble on climate change
Excerpt: This Rust Belt state is one of the last places you might expect to wage a winning Senate campaign by trumpeting climate change to liberals at Netroots Nation and boasting about voting for cap and trade. But Michigan Democrat Gary Peters is making the climate cause a central message in his neck-and-neck Senate campaign, in a state that for decades built gas-guzzling cars into a foundation of the U.S. economy.

Excerpt: Can’t get two-thirds of the Senate to approve a bit of Green Legislation you favor? No problem! Just pretend that the United States of America is subject not to its Constitution but to the transnational organization of gangsters, kleptocracies, and Third-World dictatorships known as the Untied Nations.

Important: EPA Chief: CO2 Regulations Are About ‘Justice’ For ‘Communities Of Color’
Excerpt: “Asthma disproportionately affects African-American kids,” McCarthy added. “In just the first year these standards go into effect, we’ll avoid up to 100,000 asthma attacks and 2,100 heart attacks — and those numbers go up from there.” “These standards are also doing more than to just address public health. By the time these standards are fully in place in 2030, the average household will also save $8 a month on electricity and create thousands of jobs that can’t be shipped overseas,” McCarthy said. (Yeah, and your health insurance costs will be lower; you can keep your doctor; and the Community Regime will decrease the # of white carbon units taking up space, eating and emiting CO2. But it won’t affect you if your are a “person of color.” Oh, and a lot with a sink hole is prime real estate….Very scary logic. Talk about hate speech. --Barb. And the higher energy costs will hit the poor, including persons of color [colored persons?] hardest as heating, gas, food and everything else go up. ~Bob)

Child marriage is tragic consequence of Syrian conflict
Excerpt: The crisis in Syria has killed thousands, displaced millions and like many conflicts before it, increased the rate of child marriage dramatically, according to a disturbing study recently released by Save the Children. (Just following the example of Mohammad, who according to the Holy Qur'an is the prefect example of conduct for all Muslims. The sacred Hadith say he married his youngest wife when she was six, consummated the marriage when he was nine. Remember, all cultures have equal value--who are we to judge pedophilia. ~!Bob)

The Muslim Rape of Christian Nuns. By Raymond Ibrahim
Excerpt: Despite how unsavory and barbaric Islamic groups and persons around the world have been acting—whether Nigeria’s Boko Haram, Mesopotamia’s Islamic State, Somalia’s Shabaab—perhaps few things are as disgusting and cowardly as the Muslim rape of nuns: defenseless Christian women who sacrifice much of their lives to help sick and needy Muslims.

American ISIS Supporter Plotted to Blow Up ‘Zionist’ Day Care. By Lloyd Billingsley
Excerpt: Teausant told the reporters that while living in Montana he met a beautiful Muslim woman who would speak only to Muslim men. That spurred his interest in Islam, but it wasn’t only romantic. The zealous convert came to believe his daughter’s day care center was “Zionist.” He wanted to blow it up but claims he told the informant he would only bomb the place when nobody was there. Teausant doesn’t recall discussing any bomb attacks in Los Angeles but on fighting overseas he showed good recall. Excerpt: If there is a JV player on the court at the moment, if you ask Putin, if you ask the mullahs, if you ask the Chinese Politburo, if you ask ISIS, if you ask every rinky-dink jihadist on the outskirts of Benghazi who the JV player is on court, they're going to have no problem telling you it's President Obama. A man who's shredded American foreign policy and left Al Qaeda, ISIS, and its affiliates running around, gamboling across a vast swathe of territory from West Africa to Afghanistan - that's the JV player on the court today.

Robin Williams Emmys tribute led by Billy Crystal criticised for including 'racist' joke about Muslim woman

Spanish Cleric: 'Allah Destroy the Jews, Spare None of Them'

Excerpt: In a recent Friday sermon by a Muslim cleric in Azuqueca De HenaresSpain, the rampant anti-Semitism palpable in that country was put on display in rare fashion. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) on Monday translated the speech by Sheikh Saleheoldine El Moussaoui, who concluded his words with the rousing prayer: "Oh Allah, destroy the plundering Jews...count them one by one and do not spare a single one of them.".... However, the outpouring of hatred against Jews does not seem to keep Spain from being in the sights of the extremist Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), which vowed last month that it would take over Israel, Rome and Spain.
