A lot of good stuff today

Update

At PT Rehab Friday, I did 20 minutes on the treadmill at 2 mph, then a 2 minute cool down, and 50 reps on each of three other exercises. Same as Wednesday, except I was able to reduce the O2 level from 2 LPM to 1 LPM and still stay in the 94% to 96% saturation range.

Slammed Friday, so no news post then. Out of pocket Sunday, Rehab Monday morning, so next post might be Tuesday. ~Bob

Worth Reading: The Education Of Minority Children. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: Yet the educational dogma of the day is that you simply cannot expect children who are not middle-class to do well on standardized tests, for all sorts of sociological and psychological reasons. Those who think this way are undeterred by the fact that there are schools where low-income and minority students do in fact score well on standardized tests. These students are like the bumblebees who supposedly should not be able to fly, according to the theories of aerodynamics, but who fly anyway, in disregard of those theories. While there are examples of schools where this happens in our own time-- both public and private, secular and religious-- we can also go back nearly a hundred years and find the same phenomenon. Back in 1899, in Washington, D. C., there were four academic public high schools-- one black and three white.1 In standardized tests given that year, students in the black high school averaged higher test scores than students in two of the three white high schools.2 (I was searching fr a Sowell column from the 1990s, without luck, and found this interesting piece. I do not know the date. ~Bob)

Quote
"People who have been arguing for years for the brotherhood of man are surprised to discover that it is true, especially when it means that individuals from minority groups can be just as racist as individuals from the majority." --Thomas Sowell, Barbarians Inside the Gates.

Judge Orders DOJ to Release Fast and Furious a List of Documents Withheld From Congress Under Obama Executive Privilege Claim
Excerpt: “This order forces the Obama DOJ, for the first time, to provide a detailed listing of all documents that it has withheld from Congress and the American people for years about the deadly Fast and Furious gun running scandal,” Judicial Watch released in a statement.

DeLauro proposes 1 cent tax on each teaspoon of sugar in soft drinks
Excerpt: With high rates of obesity, diabetes and related illnesses prevailing across the United States, U.S. Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro on Wednesdayproposed the Sugar-Sweetened Beverages Tax Act, or SWEET Act. It may not pass in a Republican-dominated House, but the idea of putting a 1-cent tax on each teaspoon of sugar in soft drinks, as the bill calls for, is “a serious piece of legislation; it’s not a statement” in a time when people are concerned about nutrition, said DeLauro, D-3. In the last 30 years “you’ve seen a very substantial increase in obesity and diabetes in the United States. The statistics are really pretty extraordinary,” DeLauro said Wednesday. (From my personal Congress-critter. Imagine having a job where you get to wake up in the morning and dream of ways to legally steal other people’s money, because you really care about them, so it’s the right thing to do. --George)

Rethinking the war on poverty. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: Conservative reformers such as Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) argue that anti-poverty programs need to be transformed from a one-size-fits-all series of federal wealth transfers to a more holistic approach that focuses on individuals’ specific needs and that aims to end dependency. Liberals look askance at this notion, suspecting that it is some sort of excuse for not spending more at the federal level. But, in fact, if we focus on outcomes, the biggest successes are those programs customized and administered at the state and local level that encourage aid recipients to become productive workers.

UN Official: Vietnam Violates Religious Freedom
Excerpt: A U.N. official who went to Vietnam to assess religious freedom in this Southeast Asian country said Thursday that security agents closely monitored his visit and people he wanted to meet were harassed and intimidated. (I'm shocked, shocked to read this...that the communists do not really honor their own constitution's guarantee of freedom of religion? What a totally amazing thing to hear.... Actually, the shock is that there is any improvement at all under Hanoi's oppressive regime. They have been violating religious freedom since the day they took over in 1954, we must recognize their consistency in this. And for denying personal freedoms in general, which has been a fundamental part of communism forever. Amazing that there are still people who don't understand this. --Del)

America’s Hidden Credit Card Bill: The Government Should Report Its ‘Fiscal Gap,’ Not Just Official Debts. By Laurence Kotlikoff
Excerpt: So there’s a different way to borrow — one that’s more subtle, harder to see and, therefore, cheaper to do. You still take in money, pledge to return it, and leave future generations on the hook. But you call the money you take in “taxes,” not “borrowing.” And you promise repayment in the form of pension, health care and other benefits, but you don’t record the present value of those promises as official debt. Social Security is a prime example. (Don't expect this type of transparency from "the most transparent administration in history." ~Bob)

Excerpt: Republican challenger Bruce Rauner has edged further ahead in his battle with Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn for the governorship of Illinois. The latest Rasmussen Report telephone survey of Likely Illinois Voters finds Rauner with a five-point lead – 44% to 39% - over Quinn.

Putin and Obama, the Bobbsey Twins. By James Lewis
Excerpt: For half a millennium the Russian Tsars proudly proclaimed themselves to be guardians of Christian civilization against barbarian invasions from the Asian steppes and the Muslim Middle East. Although the Tsars generally excluded Catholics from their benevolent protection, their claim to protect European Christianity was not totally wrong. What a really interesting way to look at what's going on in the world today. --Del)

IRS Gave Lois Lerner a Bonus to Make Her Want to Keep Up Her Work. By Mark Horne
Excerpt: The Weekly Standard reports that the IRS gave Lois Lerner a bonus, specifically a “retention bonus”—an incentive for her to keep her job harassing, obstructing, and burdening conservative taxpayers whose money was used to offer her that bonus.

Japan gives Vietnam six navy ships amid regional tension
Excerpt: Japan says it will give Vietnam six naval ships for patrols in the South China Sea, amid regional tension over competing maritime claims with China. The offer, worth 500 million yen (£2.9 million, $5 million), was announced during a visit by Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida to Hanoi.

Wisconsin Supreme Court upholds voter ID law
Excerpt: The Wisconsin Supreme Court has upheld a 2011 law backed by Republicans requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls, and Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen pledged to use the ruling to convince a federal appeals panel to put the law into effect for the November election.

More Money Isn't the Answer to the VA's Many Problems The VA doesn't have a funding problem—it has a culture problem of poor management, inefficiency and no accountability.
Garry Augustine's "Aid Veterans Affairs By Nixing Budget Gimmickry" (op-ed, July 23) suggests the Department of Veterans Affairs' failures in caring for veterans stem from inadequate funding. This argument is extremely misleading. Since 2009, the VA's budget has increased by 68% to more than $163 billion (with a $450 million health-care budget surplus this year), making the VA the second largest federal department. But additional funding isn't often invested well. For example, the Government Accountability Office detailed how construction costs for a new VA facility in Denver ballooned from $328 million to $800 million over eight years. This is typical with VA construction projects which are 35 months delayed and $360 million over budget on average. Worse, whistleblowers across the nation report how some VA doctors treat substantially fewer patients than private-sector providers—sometimes as few as two a day. This while the VA maintains over 1,000 unfilled physician positions on its books and VA executives are paid "performance" bonuses based on fraudulent numbers. The VA doesn't have a funding problem—it has a culture problem of poor management, inefficiency and no accountability. Fundamentally reforming the department, not more funding, should be the top priority. We need a better VA, not a bigger one. It's notable that to support his assertion that the VA is underfunded, Mr. Augustine cites the department's own estimates. Given that the VA is embroiled in a scandal centered on fraudulent numbers and bad data, he should seek a more credible source to bolster this stale argument. --Pete Hegseth, CEO, Concerned Veterans for America (Yes, of course there are always parts of the program that need more people, more equipment, more facilities, more money. But those are not the key problems that keep the VA from doing its job in a more timely, efficient, and effective fashion. The military analogy is simple- getting more or bigger guns won't solve the problems caused by stupid, lazy, or incompetent generals. Lincoln's key action to finish off the South in the Civil War was not just the use of the Draft to get more men in blue uniforms, it was firing incompetent generals and putting Grant in charge. But will any reform other than breaking the power of the union of the top civil servants have any chance of truly fixing things? --Del. The government set up a system whereby administrators were rewarded for lying and some employees were paid for doing full time union work, no heath care. People tend to do what they are rewarded fof. The caregivers from the surgeons to the CNAs at my local VA have been beyond superb--I wouldn't be alive today without them. ~Bob)

Abandoned Baby With Downs Syndrome Highlights Dark Side of Surrogacy in Thailand. By Christine Rousselle
Excerpt: A surrogate mother in Bangkok is facing unexpected parenthood after she refused to abort a surrogate baby after he was prenatally diagnosed with Down syndrome. Pattharamom Janbua was paid the equivalent of $10,000 to carry a set of twins for an Australian couple. Following the Down syndrome diagnosis of Gammy, the male twin, the couple refused to parent him and instead took only the healthy female twin. A fund has been set up to assist Pattharamom with the medical costs associated with raising a special needs child.

Too funny: Richard Dawkins: Islamophobe and Sexist
Excerpt: After making atheist provocateur Richard Dawkins a deity himself for his vitriolic attacks on Christianity, the left is suddenly experiencing a case of tightly wound panties over the discovery that Dawkins doesn’t reserve his misanthropy for Christianity. He also thinks the feminist focus of “rape culture” is ridiculous and that Islam is violent and dangerous.

According to recently released documents from the Department of State, Bill Clinton used his wife’s position as secretary of state to secure numerous lucrative speaking engagements around the globe.

Obamacare Disaster in California. By Arnold Ahlert
Excerpt: California’s experience with ObamaCare portends a dubious future for the nation. “The rate increase from 2013 to 2014, on average, was significantly higher than rate increases in the past,” said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones at a news conference Tuesday. Jones admitted that Californians endured premium rate increases ranging from 22 percent to 88 percent from last year to this year. “The rate increase from 2013 to 2014, on average, was significantly higher than rate increases in the past,” Jones added.

Obama readies executive action on immigration. By David Nakamura
Excerpt: President Obama is preparing to announce new measures that would potentially allow millions of illegal immigrants to remain in the United States without fear of deportation, a politically explosive decision that could jolt Washington just weeks before the midterm elections, according to people who have been in touch with the White House. ... Though politically charged, such a move would allow Obama to present a sharp contrast with Republicans — who have remained staunchly opposed to loosening immigration enforcement — and cement Hispanic support for the Democratic Party for years to come, supporters said. (well, that tells us what this is about. Still maintaining restrictions on high-earning professionals and entrepreneurs--they too often vote Republican! ~Bob)

Taxpayers Cover Cost of Flying Immigrant Children to Hawaii. By Malia Zimmerman
Excerpt: Although 2,500 miles from the continental United States, Hawaii has joined the list of states temporarily housing unaccompanied minors from Central America who have illegally crossed into America through the U.S.-Mexico border. Who’s paying to transport the minors to Hawaii? You, the taxpayer.

Worth Reading: Keeping America Exceptional: Mexico-Raised Activists Addresses the Illegal Immigrants, ‘Be Careful What You Ask For…’
Excerpt: Editor’s Note: Paty Newman, born to Mexican immigrants in LA, writes this open letter to illegal aliens. It is the Rule of Law that has made our country exceptional. The same Rule of Law will protect you if you want to become an American or a legal resident. The law doesn’t apply evenly in your country of origin; the consequence of lawlessness is what made you run away. But now you are asking us to ignore our own laws and make exceptions that are favorable to you. Be careful what you ask for, you have personally lived the consequences of “exceptions” to the Rule of Law.

Feds quietly dump hundreds of illegal immigrants in Tennessee. By Todd Starnes
Excerpt: Imagine you’re about to sit down for supper when suddenly 760 folks show up on your front porch wanting fried catfish and hushpuppies. You’d be fit to be tied as they say in Tennessee. And Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam is fit to be tied.

The Loophole is Obama. By Ann Coulter
Excerpt: It's been reported everywhere -- The New York Times, The Washington Post, Fox News -- that the William Wilberforce Sex Trafficking Act requires that any non-Mexican children who show up on our border be admitted and given a hearing. (New York Times, July 7, 2014: "Immigrant Surge Rooted in Law to Curb Child Trafficking.") The problem, we've been told, is that a loophole in the sex trafficking law mandates these hearings -- or "removal proceedings." But there is no such loophole.

"You're Greener Than Gore" News

The Environmental Corruption Agency. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: The lofty motto of the Environmental Protection Agency is "protecting people and the environment." In practice, however, EPA bureaucrats faithfully protect their own people and preserve the government's cesspool of manipulation, cover-ups and cronyism.
Just last week, Mark Levin and his vigilant Landmark Legal Foundation went to court to ask federal district judge Royce Lamberth to sanction the EPA "for destroying or failing to preserve emails and text messages that may have helped document suspected agency efforts to influence the 2012 presidential election." The motion is part of a larger Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit to force EPA to release emails and related records from former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson and others "who may have delayed the release dates for hot-button environmental regulations until after the Nov. 6, 2012, presidential election." (I've been on this kick for a while now, as some of you will remember. The rise of the giant federal bureaucracies that end up feeling and acting as if they are untouchable bastions of power to be used in whatever manner the current bosses wish has been pretty obvious for at least a decade, and it is to a major extent independent of who is in the Oval Office or the Senate or House. Some of the scandals do relate to politics, like the blatantly Democrat-leaning execs at the IRS, others are just about corrupt power, as the bonus-seeking "civil servants" at the VA. The corruption by power has been very well known to people for centuries, and our Founders were well aware of it, and concerned about it. But we've really lost the handle on the big federal bureaucracies for some time now, and the abuses these arrogant jerks put into play cost us all in various ways. Money is wasted by the billions, people are badly abused more and more often, and the functions that need to be accomplished are not. I am hoping and praying that Congress and perhaps our next President will come to focus on these problems, and man up to the task of reining in the abusive agencies decisively, for the sake of the nation. We need our government to serve us, not us serving them, we need important functions to be performed, we need to avoid gross waste of money, and we need very much to make sure that no bureaucrat gets to harass, oppress, or in any way mistreat citizens. We are Americans, and we need to be better than that. --Del)

Excerpt: The study concludes: "Among the papers expressing a position on AGW, an overwhelming percentage (… 97.1% based on abstract ratings) endorses the scientific consensus on AGW." Focus on that conditional phrase, “among the papers expressing a position on AGW.” On page 3 of this study, a simple time series chart shows that OVER HALF of these articles did NOT express an opinion on AGW at all. Further, the percentage of these no-opinion climate articles GREW to well over 60% over the period of study. Meanwhile, the percentage of articles that expressly support the AGW theory FELL from around 50% to well below 40%.

Israeli soldier feared kidnapped as IDF names 2 others killed
Excerpt: A Hamas attack on IDF soldiers in southern Gaza, which occurred an hour and a half after the start of a humanitarian truce, ended with the suspected kidnapping of a soldier, the IDF said Friday. Second Lt. Hadar Goldin, a 23-year-old Givati officer from Kfar Saba, was named as the IDF soldier presumed to be abducted by Hamas. His family has been notified. (Hamas immediately violated the humanitarian ceasefire they agreed to? Show me your shocked face. ~Bob)

Cease-fire collapses between Israel, Hamas; Israeli soldier captured
Excerpt: It was the start of a three-day truce, the best hope yet to end a 25-day-old war that has taken an enormous toll on both Palestinians and Israelis. On Friday morning, Israeli troops were in the southern Gaza Strip preparing to destroy a Hamas tunnel, said Israeli military officials. Suddenly, Palestinian militants emerged from a shaft. They included a suicide bomber, who detonated his explosive device. In the chaos, two Israeli soldiers were killed. (With Hamas as with other jihadists, you cannot negotiate, as they never keep their word. You can only kill them, die or submit. See http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/quran/011-taqiyya.htm. ~Bob. "It is the madness of folly, to expect mercy from those who have refused to do justice; and even mercy, where conquest is the object, is only a trick of war; the cunning of the fox is as murderous as the violence of the wolf." --Thomas Paine)

Hamas Defenders: Don't Call Them Terrorists. By John Rossomando
Excerpt: By attacking Israeli troops and kidnapping one just hours into a new ceasefireFriday morning, Hamas guaranteed that the people it claims to represent in Gaza will face more casualties as Israeli forces hunt for the terrorist who live among them. Yet, for Hamas defenders, this is unlikely to change their descriptions for the group. Despite long-standing terrorist designations by the United States and European Union, to them Hamas is a "sovereign government," a political party, a "humanitarian organization" or a "resistance" movement.

Worth Reading: Clueless in Gaza. By Charles Krauthammer
Excerpt: More significant is the consternation of America’s Arab partners, starting with the president of the Palestinian Authority. Mahmoud Abbas was stunned that Kerry would fly off to Paris to negotiate with Hamas allies Qatar and Turkey in talks that excluded the PA and Egypt. The talks also undermined Egypt’s cease-fire proposal, which Israel had accepted and Hamas rejected (and would have prevented the vast majority of the casualties on both sides).

Genocide of Christians takes a back seat to hating Israel. By Dave Weinbaum
Excerpt: There's something familiar about what's happening to Christians in the Middle East and North Africa. Over the last ten years, we've heard the news of church burnings, rapes, kidnappings and mass murders. All these have taken place at the hands of Muslim Jihadists in the Mideast and North Africa. Yet, nothing has been as stirring as the void that was filled by the Obama-led evacuation of US forces in Iraq. ISIS, an organized militia of Sunni Muslims, conquered a large swath of Iraq and Syria in just weeks after the last US combat soldier left. Many of their weapons were abandoned US issue, trucks and tanks. (Somehow we're not getting a lot of coverage of the mounting attacks on Christians all over most of the Middle East and Africa. In Sudan and Nigeria the Muslim murderers have been slaughtering Christians for over a decade now, and those aren't the only places in Africa with such situations. I think the US should be arming Christians in some places and training them as well, so they can fight back against those who come to kill them or drive them out. The UN is utterly incapable of handling any of this stuff, they don't send anyone in to protect the Christians and if they did, they'd still just stand by and watch them get killed as they did during massacres in Rwanda and Yugoslavia. US troops are the only ones who will actually face up to armed enemies and engage with deadly force when it's called for. Sometimes I think US troops are the only ones who really know how to fight at all, look at the Iraqi Army which has had so many well equipped units, trained for years, drop their weapons (which are much better than the invaders have) and run when faced with a much smaller crowd of opponents whose heaviest weapons are some pickup trucks with .50 cal MG on them. (Totally vulnerable to anyone with a rifle and the ability to hit a man at 200 yards.) What a mess that is, maybe a lot of Arab Muslims deserve and somehow need to be ruled by brutal dictators and religious fanatics? I can only feel sorry for the women. But meanwhile, we have publicity poured at us about the deaths of Gazans, who are dying because the Hamas guys living among then cannot bring themselves to stop launching rockets for more than 90 minutes even when they've agreed to a 3 day ceasefire, while far more Christians have been slaughtered in the parts of Syria and Iraq where the new caliphate has been declared, and they didn't do anything at all to put themselves in harms way. I don't understand why Christian pogroms aren't worth any attention or serious condemnation in the world media. This is more than frustrating or maddening, it's really a basis for rage. And maybe a message that it's time for Christians to express rage and demand better of the media and our leaders. --Del)

Excerpt: The Saudi Interior Ministry confirmed reports yesterday that the Kingdom received eight Saudi individuals from Yemen wanted for their involvement in al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). This Yemeni deportation of Saudi AQAP fighters is the first handover of terrorists active in Yemen to Saudi Arabia since February, when Yemeni security officials announced that they had handed over 29 Saudi AQAP fighters to the Kingdom.

Jews Can Shoot. By Mark Tapson
Excerpt: "Everywhere genocide has prevailed, it was superseded by requiring the registration of guns followed by the confiscation of guns. . . .Whether it is an attack on our way of life by the government or being attacked by a criminal in the street or attempting to break into our homes, the attacker is far less likely to succeed if he knows that there will be resistance from an armed citizen."

Obama does not accept war for what it is. By Eliot A. Cohen
Excerpt: Therein lies the difference between Lincoln and Obama, which explains much of the wreckage that is U.S. foreign policy in Gaza and elsewhere today. Lincoln accepted war for what it is; Obama does not. The Gaza war is a humanitarian tragedy for Palestinian civilians caught in the crossfire. It is also a barbaric conflict, as leaders of Hamas hide their fighters behind children while baiting their enemy to kill innocents. But first and foremost, it is a war, a mortal contest of wills between two governments and two societies.

In Belfast, bricks were thrown at the city’s only synagogue, smashing windows on two consecutive nights. “UN Condemns Israel’s Latest War Crime: Not Sharing Iron Dome with Hamas,” by Thomas Rose
Excerpt: Among the UN’s long bill of particulars against the beleaguered Jewish state comes the almost unbelievable accusation that Israel’s refusal to share its Iron Dome ballistic missile defense shield with the “governing authority” of Gaza – i.e. Hamas, the terror group created to pursue the extermination of the Jewish state and now waging a terrorist war against it – constitutes a war crime against the civilians of Gaza.

Nigeria: 10-year-old female suicide bomber, two others arrested in Katsina. By Stella Omona (Abuja) and Onoja Audu (Jos)
Excerpt: The security forces said on Wednesday they have arrested three suspected suicide bombers, among them two female teenagers, 10-year-old Hadiza Musa and 18-year-old Zainab Musa.

Excerpt: The international media will probably report this as a craven Israeli assault on a health clinic. In reality, the UNRWA clinic housed the opening of a jihad weapons smuggling tunnel. Here again, we see the UN being used by the jihadis — did UN officials know about this? This makes three UN schools and a health clinic aiding active jihad warfare — no one at the UN was aware of or on board with this? There needs to be a full investigation, and the defunding of the UN if it is found to be enabling war against a sovereign state. But this is the age of Obama, and there will be no such investigation.

In Pakistan, he would certainly be killed. “The Spanish Supreme Court has ruled that Firasat should be expelled from the country, being a security threat.” But it is not actually Imran Firasat who is the security threat; it is the Muslims who might become violent because of the uncomfortable truths that Firasat tells about Islam. The Spanish authorities, however, are unable or unwilling to confront them. If there were any justice in the regime in Washington, Firasat would be able to get asylum in the United States. But there isn’t. (Not the kind f Immigrant Democrats want here. ~Bob)

Catholic League Chief Speaks Out on Obama's Eid al-Fitr Message. By Sandy Fitzgerald
Excerpt: Catholic League President Bill Donohue is slamming President Barack Obama for his statement commemorating the end of the Muslim Ramadan observance, saying Obama doesn't "stand with people of all faiths." Obama's brief statement, issued earlier this week to send best wishes to Muslims during the Eid al-Fitr celebration, said that the observance reminds him and wife Michelle "of the many achievements and contributions of Muslim Americans to building the very fabric of our nation and strengthening the core of our democracy." Further, Obama said he and his wife "stand with people of all faiths, here at home and around the world, to protect and advance their rights to prosper, and we welcome their commitment to giving back to their communities." (Mr. Obama must really think that this country had a significant number of Muslims living here from the time the Pilgrims (who would have thrown a Muslim into the ocean) arrived here, who did a lot of contributing to the founding of the nation and its progress since then. Maybe that happened on some other planet, but not on this one. But he unfailingly compliments them on every possible occasion and talks about their building "the very fabric of our nation", the evidence for which is nonexistent. When is the last time he said something complimentary to Catholics or Baptists or Quakers or any Christian group or Christians in general? I can't recall any such occasion. Meanwhile, Christian communities that have been in place in the Middle East since the fall of Constantinople are being driven out or wiped out, and I have yet to hear him say a word about it. John Kerry has done the most magnificent job of being counterproductive with Israel and Hamas that one could have ever imagined, bringing our status in the Middle East to even lower than low. One starts to wonder if this Administration will ever get anything right, or even close. But it's OK, the fundraisers are still there, the golf courses are still there, and the gourmet food service at the White House is still there, so our President will never be bored. --Del)

From 2002: Whosoever Blesses Them: The intifada and its defenders. By Larry Miller
Excerpt: The Palestinians want their own country. There's just one thing about that: There are no Palestinians. It's a made up word. Israel was called Palestine for two thousand years. Like "Wiccan," "Palestinian" sounds ancient but is really a modern invention. Before the Israelis won the land in war, Gaza was owned by Egypt, and there were no "Palestinians" then, and the West Bank was owned by Jordan, and there were no "Palestinians" then. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," weeping for their deep bond with their lost "land" and "nation." So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" any more to describe these delightful folks, who dance for joy at our deaths until someone points out they're being taped. (This still goes around the net attributed to Dennis Miller. ~Bob)
