A few items of interest. ~Bob

I've been traveling with almost no computer time, now packing to move, but found a few items worth reading. Sorry about the spacing, no time to reformat. ~Bob

Coloring a President Colorless. By Andy Weddington

Excerpt: Color. Shapes. Words. Each individually influential. When combined powerful. And different for everyone.

ObamaCare Is the Problem, Health Savings Accounts Are the Solution

Excerpt: The HSA Revolution. Traditional health insurance involves a low deductible, leaving the insured to pay only the first few hundred dollars of expenses each year, with the rest of the bills covered by the insurance. Sometimes the insured makes a modest copay above the deductible. That structure creates the “third party payment” problem. With the insurance company paying virtually all the bills, neither the patient nor the doctor have any incentive to control costs. They decide between themselves what and how much health care to consume, and bill the insurer. Naturally, this process makes health insurance very expensive.

Excerpt: A retired U.S. Marine severely injured in Iraq was subjected to extra scrutiny at a California airport and at the state capitol building for wearing "too much metal" -- an inspection that shocked his travel companion as well as bystanders, the MilitaryTimes.com reported.

Excerpt: The IRS mistakenly posted the Social Security numbers of tens of thousands of Americans on a government website, the agency confirmed Monday night. One estimate put the figure as high as 100,000 names.

Polling Shows That Sources Of Racism Are Now Reversed. By Thomas Sowell

Excerpt: I am so old that I can remember when most of the people promoting race hate were white. Apparently other Americans also recognize that the sources of racism are different today from what they were in the past. According to a recent Rasmussen poll, 31% of blacks think that most blacks are racists, while 24% of blacks think that most whites are racist. (This poll held no surprises for me.  That most upper and middle class Whites gave up racism long ago is pretty much known, and that a significant fraction of Blacks have been conditioned into racism by various activists and "leaders" is also not news.  What's really sad is that race relations have gotten worse in the last 5 years, thanks to various public figures, e.g. our current Attorney General. I am an idealist, I believe things can get better, if only we have some more forthright leaders, especially from the Black communities.  And I write "communities" in the plural on purpose, since the inner city culture cannot claim all American Blacks, and we do have middle and upper class Blacks who form somewhat different communities.  (Not to mention recent African immigrants, who are different entirely.) --Del)

Obama’s Visit to Hell. By Daniel Greenfield

Excerpt: During his visit to South Africa, Obama compared Nelson Mandela to George Washington. George Washington, unlike Nelson Mandela, was not a member of the Communist Party. Martha Washington had not been involved in murdering a 14-year-old boy or in urging the colonists to burn men, women and children alive by placing rubber tires around them, pouring gasoline on them and setting them on fire. (Mandela was a long term fighter for racial equality, and deserves full credit for that.  He himself was not a promoter of the kind of reverse racism now in power in South Africa, nor was he in approval of the extremes his wife went to while he was in prison. But South Africa has not remotely lived up to any ideals of justice for all, or even reasonably civilized attitudes by some of those in power.  The nation is in continous ferment, and its economics aren't working out too well either.  It is in truly desperate need of reform, but so far there is no sign of that coming.  It's really a massive tragedy in action. --Del)

June Jobs: An employment report only a central banker could love. By James Pethokoukis

In other words, the entire increasein the household measure of employment was accounted for by persons working part-time for economic reasons. The underemployment rate surged to 14.3% from 13.8%.

Obama’s global-warming folly. By Charles Krauthammer

Excerpt: The economy stagnates. Syria burns . Scandals lap at his feet. China and Russia mock him , even as a “29-year-old hacker” revealed his nation’s spy secrets to the world. How does President Obama respond? With a grandiloquent speech on climate change. Climate change? It lies at the very bottom of a list of Americans’ concerns (last of 21 — Pew poll). Which means that Obama’s declaration of unilateral American war on global warming, whatever the cost — and it will be heavy — is either highly visionary or hopelessly solipsistic. You decide: (Krauthammer does it nicely again, of course.  Facts and logic, nothing else.  Of course that means a head-on collision with Mr. Obama's speeches on Climate Change and what we really must do about it right now.  I keep hoping that some of these critiques will get to enough citizens and members of Congress to keep the fight up to not shoot ourselves in the foot.  But with the EPA firmly into the mania and most of the media and academia behind them, it's a tough situation. --Del)

The Mindset of the Left: Part IV. By Thomas Sowell

Excerpt: At the heart of the left's vision of the world is the implicit assumption that high-minded third parties like themselves can make better decisions for other people than those people can make for themselves.
