Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for May 10, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for May 10, 2013
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion--who needs newspapers or TV? Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Worth Reading: The Truth Makes a Difference. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Earlier today three men of principle, of morals, of values, of conscience, of courage, of sense of duty and loyalty to comrades and country, spoke about the murders of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans in Benghazi, Libya, on 11 September 2012.

Excerpt: The Republicans mishandled the Benghazi whistleblowers’ hearing. What should have been stretched across several days to give the nation time to digest it all, was instead packed into a single day filled with an overwhelming amount of information. The media’s attention span is not that long. The verdict in the Jodi Arias trial came along in the afternoon and blew Benghazi off the networks, most of which didn’t want to cover it at all.

Boehner Calls on President Obama to Release Benghazi E-Mails
Excerpt: At his weekly press conference today, Speaker Boehner backed the committee’s efforts by calling on President Obama to release e-mails – which his administration is withholding – that would shed light on what the administration knew about the attacks, and what it told the American people.

Susan Rice to be honored with “Great American Award” for “strengthening the world’s common security”
She. . .Susan Rice. . .this lying woman. . . is getting this award??? --RS. Like her boss’s Peace Prize. As has been said, Obama is the first president of the “Everybody gets a trophy” generation. ~Bob.

From Morning Jolt By Jim Geraghty
Daveed Gartenstein Ross of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies: "I defended the administration during the election from some attacks I saw as unfair. Well, today's testimony deeply disturbed me. It is impossible at this point to argue that only the Republicans are 'playing politics' with Benghazi. 1) Claims the witnesses' cooperation in investigation was impeded. 2) Claims the Rice talking points hurt relations with Libya. 3) Explanation of why the Rice talking point[s] were obviously implausible to those on the scene."

Benghazi: Do As I Say, Or As I Do? By Bing West
Excerpt: “Under General Dempsey’s plan, teams of inspectors will observe and review the procedures . . . in effect for all generals. He said he would be subject to the same rules.” Those new rules would seem to require an assessment of Dempsey’s own performance last September, when he decided not to respond with force to the terrorist attack in Benghazi for ten hours, although our ambassador to Libya was declared missing during the first hour of the assault and two former SEALs died in the tenth hour. Why did Dempsey choose to do nothing?

Worth Reading: Obama's human shields will rescue him from Benghazi: Kevin O'Brien. By Kevin OBrien, The Plain Dealer
Excerpt: President Barack Obama played for time on the Benghazi disaster. Now he'll play for distance. And no one should be surprised if it works. Playing for time got him through the election, as a grateful national media seized upon "superstorm" Sandy as the perfect excuse to blow Benghazi off the front page.

Don’t know how much weight to give this. ~Bob

FLASHBACK: Chris Matthews in October: ‘Everybody knows it’s about the video’ [VIDEO]
http://dailycaller.com/2013/05/08/flashback-chris-matthews-in-october-everybody-knows-its-about-the-video/#ixzz2So5DHHtz
Excerpt: In October, just before the presidential debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., Chris Matthews shouted down a supporter of then-Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, saying, “it was about the video. Read the newspaper. Thank you. Everybody knows it’s about the video. It’s all about the video.” (Chris Mathews is to Journalism what Joseph Goebbels was. ~Bob.)

Gregory Hicks (Whistleblower) Embarrassed By Blame Placed On YouTube Video. Benghazi Hearing
He speaks against the King? He must be silenced! ~Bob

Remember when Hillary told the #benghazi families "we'll get the people responsible for the video" Wow LIED to their faces. (And you are surprised? Why? ~Bob.)

There would be more media coverage if the people killed at #Benghazi were gay basketball players

Bush was a dummy for taking 7 min to not panic school kids during, 911 yet we don't know where Obama was during #Benghazi.

The News in Zingers. By Argus Hamilton
Excerpt: Hillary Clinton will be given the Helen Keller Humanitarian Award in New York next week. She did great things despite being blind and deaf. Somehow you knew Hillary Clinton would come up with a fool-proof defense for missing the Benghazi terrorist attacks.

Benghazi vs Watergate: What Difference Does it Make? By Joe Miller
http://joemiller.us/2013/05/benghaziwatergate-what-difference-does-it-make/#ixzz2Sok9nER5
Excerpt: he media coverage was unrivaled as details of a bungled petty burglary turned into a major scandal and efforts to hide the president’s involvement came to light. But no one died as a result of Watergate.

Worth Reading: Beware the Dictators of Virtue. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: America today tolerates different things. It tolerates little boys dressing up as little girls at school, but not little boys pointing pencils and making machine gun noises on the playground. The little boy whose mother dressed him up in girlish clothes once used to be a figure of contempt while the little boy pretending to be a Marine was the future of the nation. Now the boy in the dress is the future of the nation having joined an identity group while the aspiring little Marine is suspected of one day trading in his sharpened pencil for an assault rifle as soon as the next gun show comes to town.

Census: Blacks voted at higher rates than whites in 2012
Excerpt: The 2012 election produced another demographic milestone in the changing face of the nation as African Americans voted at a higher rate than whites for the first time, according to a Census Bureau report released Wednesday. The report provided fresh evidence of how higher turnout rates among African Americans and a rapidly growing Hispanic population continue to reshape the electorate in presidential elections, with broad implications for the competition between the Republican and Democratic parties. ("A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy." This quote is attributed to Alexander Fraser Tytler, a Scottish advocate, judge, writer and historian who served as Professor of Universal History, and Greek and Roman Antiquities, in the University of Edinburgh. It cannot be found in his extant writings, so may be bogus or the originals may have been lost. Which doesn’t make it wrong. ~Bob.)

The Case Against Cronies: Libertarians Must Stand Up to Corporate Greed: It's time for a free-market corporate social responsibility. Conservatives who rail against government hand-outs should also blast companies who seek shelter from Washington. By Timothy P. Carney
Excerpt: Voters despise government officials who get in bed with corporations. But what about corporations who cozy up to government? Are companies who use cronyism to grow their profit acting unethically? The question makes some free-marketeers uneasy.

With 10 patterns, U.S. military branches out on camouflage front
Excerpt: In 2002, the U.S. military had just two kinds of camouflage uniforms. One was green, for the woods. The other was brown, for the desert. Then things got strange. Today, there is one camouflage pattern just for Marines in the desert. There is another just for Navy personnel in the desert. The Army has its own “universal” camouflage pattern, which is designed to work anywhere. It also has another one just for Afghanistan, where the first one doesn’t work. (The Army adopted digital camouflage because the Marines did, and they didn’t want the Jarheads to have cooler uniforms. But as usual, they screwed it up, so we were cooler anyway. And the berets make them look like san Francisco hippies. ~Bob.)

Attkisson’s Willingness To Investigate Obama Earns Washington Post Profile
Excerpt: Regardless, Attkisson, who has been fearless in pursuing both the Fast and Furious and Libya scandals, most certainly deserves the kudos. She also offers some insight as to why the rest of the media either downplays Libya or has aided and abetted the White House in its cover up: She says she has received “a tremendous amount of pushback” from the White House as a result of her reporting on Benghazi and Fast and Furious.

Excerpt: What are “progracists”? Progracists are people who continually classify individuals by “race” and yet can’t see how that is racist. Progracists hate Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream of an America in which people “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character,” because progressive policies are based on race consciousness, ethnic division, and identity politics.

Celebrating 30 years of togetherness...
Bob: Feel free to post this on your blog. The Ronald McDonald House fundraisers include a Sporting Clays shotgun shoot, in addition to the events in this post. Note the case of the child, born three months premature, and now 6 months old. The kind of “tissue” that Gosnell has been destroying. --Steve. Excerpt: We believe that when a child is sick or undergoing medical treatment, the love and support of their family is the strongest medicine prescribed. Many of us cannot even begin to understand the worries and uncertainties that a mother of a critically ill or injured child must face. However, it is too often a realty for so many mothers who come through our doors.

Golfing with Obama, Republican senator scores hole-in-one
Benghazi? Fast and Furious? Deficit? Jobs? Hey, look! A hole-in-one! ~Bob. The president is reportedly so upset he ordered Homeland Security to buy up all the golf balls. –Argus Hamilton

Nigeria attack: Nasarawa cult ambush 'kills 30 police'
Excerpt: They were on their way to arrest the leader of the outlawed Ombatse "cult" when gunmen opened fire, a state spokesman told the BBC. Sani Musa Mairiga said they were forcing local villagers to swear an oath of allegiance to the group. The state police chief said that 17 officers were still missing.

Worth Reading: Hoping for Change in Syria. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Remember when President Obama used to warn Syria's Bashar al-Assad to stop his mass killing and step down? Muammar Gadhafi's dictatorship had then just collapsed under Western bombing. The murders of Americans in Benghazi and the subsequent postwar tribal mess in Libya were still in the future. In those heady days of 2011, the rage was "lead from behind," the blooming Arab Spring and social-media types calling for democracy in the streets of Cairo.

Free Syrian Army rebels defect to Islamist group Jabhat al-Nusra
Excerpt: Syria's main armed opposition group, the Free Syrian Army (FSA), is losing fighters and capabilities to Jabhat al-Nusra, an Islamist organisation with links to al-Qaida that is emerging as the best-equipped, financed and motivated force fighting Bashar al-Assad's regime. (Once they stop killing each other, they will resume killing us. Been saying that for months. ~Bob.)

The Duplicitous Hypocrisy of the Left: How is it that there is no outrage when a state party chairman calls for the female governor to be “sent back to wherever the hell she came from”? By Allen B. West
Excerpt: This past weekend, former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson made the statement that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) should not be “defined as a Hispanic.” And recently, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Dick Harpootlian said South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley should be “sent back to wherever the hell she came from.”

New PA Laws: Cutting Off Thieves' Hands, Lashes for Drinking
Excerpt: Existing laws mete out the death penalty to individuals convicted of murder, spying, homosexuality, or selling land to Jews. The new legislation will expand the crimes for which individuals can be executed to include disloyalty to a spouse – having sexual relations outside the context of marriage. (It’s just their culture and if you oppose executing Gays or adulterers, you are a racist. After all, Federal Courts, to the approval of the New York Times, said that states cannot outlaw use of Shari’a law, which includes these provisions. ~Bob.)

New Terrorist Magazine Targets Obama, Drones
Excerpt: President Barack Obama appears with a bull’s-eye on his head in a new English-language magazine published online apparently by Islamist militants, who also urge Muslims around the world to try to hack and manipulate American drones. “Wanted Dead Only. Barack Obama Mass Murderer. Reward: in the Hereafter,” reads the full page poster that depicts a darkened image Obama as a target. (Remember: the real problem is "right-wing extremists." –Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.Com. If they blow up the White House and murder the Obama family while screaming “Allah Akbar,” remember it is just “workplace violence,” nothing to do with Islam or religion. ~Bob.)

Pentagon May Court Martial Soldiers Who Share Christian Faith
I’d have no problem with this if I thought they’d treat Muslims the same. ~Bob

Excerpt: The House on Thursday passed legislation that would allow the government to borrow money above the debt ceiling, but only to service U.S. bondholders and make payments related to the Social Security Trust Fund. The Full Faith and Credit Act, H.R. 807, was passed in a 221-207 vote that saw all but eight Republicans favor the bill, and every Democrat oppose it. (DOA in the senate and the great game of chicken goes on, while the Republic swirls around the drain. ~Bob.)

Did An Imam Really Use Arabic Prayer To Covertly Damn Fallen Seal Team 6 Members To Hell During Their Funeral?
Excerpt: Parents of fallen service members spoke at a press conference on Thursday morning, an event during which they accused the U.S. government of complicity in the deaths of their sons. The families highlighted a number of grievances, including the notion that military brass invited a Muslim cleric to their children’s funeral in 2011 — an imam who they claim “disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen.” (Not clear to me. ~Bob.)

Taxpayers get the Big Green Weenie. ~Bob. Excerpt: Without much fanfare, the Department of Energy (DOE) recently updated the list of loan guarantee projects on its website. Unlike in 2008, when Barack Obama pledged to create 5 million jobs over 10 years by directing taxpayer funds toward renewable energy projects, there were no press conferences or stump speeches. But the data are nonetheless revealing: for the over $26 billion spent since 2009, DOE Section 1703 and 1705 loan guarantees have created only 2,298 permanent jobs for a cost of over $11.45 million per job.

Virginia school suspends two seven-year-olds over ‘gun’ pencils. By Ben Veldermanhttp://eagnews.org/virginia-school-suspends-two-seven-year-olds-over-gun-pencils/
Excerpt: Two seven-year-old boys were suspended from their elementary school earlier this week for pointing pencils at each other and making gun noises. (The stupid, it burns… ~Bob)

Excerpt: Rusty Weiss points out that, like many other objects that are for sale, politicians are cheaper when you buy them in bulk: Federal investigators were tracking nine Democrats in a probe involving State Senator Shirley Huntley, who wore a wire to record conversations with her colleagues. . . . Almost a quarter of the state Senate’s Democratic conference was in the FBI’s cross hairs last year, according to a court filing unsealed Wednesday.

Poll: Majority of young voters want limited government, free market, and low taxes
Excerpt: The GOP has a shot at winning the youth vote because according to a new poll, most young people want to live in a capitalist society with less government and a free market, indicating that they’re on board with many conservative principles. The downside is that young people still view conservatives more negatively than liberals, confirming once again that the conservative movement needs to refocus its efforts on youth outreach.

Kevyn Orr: Detroit Is In Worse Shape Than I Thought
Excerpt: Detroit’s emergency manager says the city is bleeding much more red ink than originally thought. That’s what Kevyn Orr told WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas in an exclusive one-on-one interview. “The situation is severe,” Orr said. “It’s worse that we originally thought. It ain’t good.”

Good cartoon about the media

Son of Washington Democrat Pleads Guilty to Raping 11-Year-Old Boy
Excerpt: The (Democrat’s) kid had a hard life. His mother died when he was young, so there’s that excuse. Besides, with the quaint rape laws we have, who’s to say this wasn’t just young love and he’s a victim of our puritanical judicial system? Who are we to judge!?!? -- The son of a Washington state senator has pleaded guilty to rape after a younger boy reported a series of incidents that occurred at the lawmaker’s home.

Excerpt: Let me say upfront: I would rather we lived in a society where adultery had a higher social cost. That’s not to say people shouldn’t be forgiving or that there should be no such thing as second chances. But ideally, I’d like it if things were less loosey-goosey. Cheat on your wife, and maybe you don’t get to run for public office anymore. Send junk-tweets to random young women who aren’t your wife? Well there goes your dream of becoming mayor. Exploit an intern whose name you can barely remember while you’re the president of the United States, maybe your moral ranking should be downgraded to junk and you should quietly skulk off the public stage. (Well, he’ll never make millions on his cheating as Bill Clinton has. But he’d have done better to leave four Americans to die, then lied about it. He’d be the front runner for President in 2016. ~Bob.)

Chicago City Council moves to allow museums to display unloaded guns for historical purposes
Excerpt: It turns out the Chicago city government has passed so many gun control laws over the years that its politicians don’t even know what is or isn’t banned within the Windy City. A top Chicago Alderman, Edward Burke (D-14th), introduced a new ordinance Wednesday that would allow city museums to display unloaded firearms for historical purposes after learning that an anomaly in the city code made previously displaying the weapons illegal.

Claims to be nude photos of Obama’s mom

Alligator attacks fleeing suspect Bryan Zuniga
Excerpt: Deputies say a man is lucky to be alive after he was attacked by an alligator while fleeing from a traffic stop.

2014 a repeat of 2010. By A.B. Stoddard
Excerpt: If the mere idea of ObamaCare fueled an historic GOP victory in 2010, just wait until reality sets in next year. That year, Democrats in swing districts were swept from office, so those who kept their jobs are running as fast and as far from the reform law as they can this year.
