Political Digest for March 19, 2012

The Old Jarhead Blog. Bringing you news and information the MSM is too busy covering American Idol, celebrity affairs and sensational missing person cases to cover. Please forward to friends who need to be informed.

Sorry for no digest for two days. I was tied up with personal health and family issues. Came back to about 500 e-mails, so having to delete 50% unread, alas. ~Bob

The more things change
Quotes from Suicide of the West by James Burnham, published in 1964: "The best of liberals...can find himself...stuffing a few extra ballots into the box to make quite sure that the will of the people coincides with his personal program for the march toward the good society." (P. 148)

"A friend of mine, who is the lone non-liberal in a large department of the humanities division of a large university told me wonderingly: "My colleagues have read hardly anything of history, political theory or political philosophy. They know nothing of economics, geography or strategy. They are acquainted with only the thinnest surface of current events, gleaned by skimming through the daily paper and perhaps Time or Newsweek. Yet, when any important public event happens anywhere in the world, everyone of them reacts with the speed and automatic certainty of a fully programmed computer to give the orthodox liberal evaluation which will be confirmed by the recognized public spokesmen within a day or two." (P. 143)

When you go to the UN to file a complaint, do you have to show an ID to get in the building? ~Bob.

Israel and the Plight of Mideast Christians: Just as Jews were once expelled from Arab lands, Christians are now being forced from countries they have long inhabited.
Excerpt: The trauma of those priests is now commonplace among Middle Eastern Christians. Their share of the region's population has plunged from 20% a century ago to less than 5% today and falling. In Egypt, 200,000 Coptic Christians fled their homes last year after beatings and massacres by Muslim extremist mobs. Since 2003, 70 Iraqi churches have been burned and nearly a thousand Christians killed in Baghdad alone, causing more than half of this million-member community to flee. Conversion to Christianity is a capital offense in Iran, where last month Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani was sentenced to death. Saudi Arabia outlaws private Christian prayer.

Moroccan teenager's suicide after she was forced to marry her rapist
Excerpt: Amina Filali, 16, drank rat poison last week in order to kill herself because she had been made to marry the man who raped her when she was 15 years old.

Exodus: California Tax Revenue Plunges By 22%
Excerpt: State Controller John Chaing continues to uphold the California Great Seal Motto of “Eureka”, i.e., 'I have found it'. But what Chaing is finding as Controller is that California’s economy as measured by tax revenues is still tanking. Compared to last year, State tax collections for February shriveled by $1.2 billion or 22%. The deterioration is more than double the shocking $535 million reported decline for last month. The cumulative fiscal year decline is $6.1 billion or down 11% versus this period in 2011.

Warmists Confirmed as Cheats, Liars, Fakers; Pope Still Catholic, etc. - by James Delingpole, Telegraph UK
Excerpt: Climatism (as Steve Goreham calls it) has very little to do with science, if indeed it ever did. Rather it's the new global religion and as with all religions it's really not about evidence but about faith. And when you're filled with zeal of religious conviction, what crime is there that you wouldn't commit to spread your wondrous, right and noble creed?

Memo to British Prime Minister David Cameron and Obama: If You Want Cheaper Oil, Stop Printing Money! - by James Delingpole, Telegraph UK
Excerpt: One of the understandable issues of concern which has been raised during David Cameron's Brokeback-Mountain-style bonding session with his fellow liberal Barack Obama is the rising price of oil. Maybe they should watch the above clip of Ron Paul telling it like it is to Obama's Spendthrift-in-Chief (aka head of the Federal Reserve) Ben Bernanke. (H/T Cobden Centre). The point Ron Paul makes is a very simple one: when you print money everything – including oil – gets more expensive.

VIDEO: Rep. Allen West to Newsmax.TV: "My Record Speaks for Itself"
Excerpt: U.S. Rep. Allen West tells Newsmax.TV that his record will carry him to re-election after his move to avoid a redistricting “ambush.” “Momma didn’t raise no fool,” the freshman Florida Republican said, explaining his recent decision to move from his 22nd Congressional District to the newly configured 18th District.

USA: An Oil-Rich Nation After All - by Jazz Shaw, Hotair.com
Excerpt: But the figure Obama uses — proved oil reserves — vastly undercounts how much oil the U.S. actually contains. In fact, far from being oil-poor, the country is awash in vast quantities — enough to meet all the country’s oil needs for hundreds of years. The U.S. has 22.3 billion barrels of proved reserves, a little less than 2% of the entire world’s proved reserves, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Poll: Majority Don't See Loss of Liberty in Obama Contraception Rules - by Kirsten Powers, The Daily Beast
Excerpt: A new Public Religion Research Institute poll released yesterday—which was done in partnership with Religion News Service—found that a majority (56 percent) of Americans do not believe that the right of religious liberty is being threatened in America today. Even worse for the right: A majority of Catholics (57 percent) and independents (58 percent) do not view Obama’s contraception mandate for religiously affiliated institutions as an infringement on religious liberty.

Saddled with College Debt - by Melissa M. Hoton, The Washington Post
Excerpt: Looking back, it’s easy to say that my parents failed. They should have asked more questions and sought counsel. More important, they should never have co-signed the loans or allowed their financial information in our aid applications because they had no intention, nor means, of paying for our pricey educations.

The bin Laden plot to kill President Obama
Excerpt: Before his death, Osama bin Laden boldly commanded his network to organize special cells in Afghanistan and Pakistan to attack the aircraft of President Obama and Gen. David H. Petraeus. “The reason for concentrating on them,” the al-Qaeda leader explained to his top lieutenant, “is that Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make [Vice President] Biden take over the presidency. . . . Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis. As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour . . . and killing him would alter the war’s path” in Afghanistan. (Yes, Democrats, even the enemy can see this much clearly enough. Ron P.)

APNewsBreak: New case of Afghan killing Marine
Excerpt: An Afghan soldier shot to death a 22-year-old Marine at an outpost in southwestern Afghanistan last month in a previously undisclosed case of apparent Afghan treachery that marked at least the seventh killing of an American military member by his supposed ally in the past six weeks, Marine officials said.

Are We On the Verge of the Obama Great Depression? by Wayne Allyn Root
Excerpt: But Obama and his socialist cabal have channeled Hoover and FDR, who turned an ordinary bust into The Great Depression with a toxic strategy of bigger government, more spending, more debt, expanded entitlements, more rules and regulations strangling business, higher minimum wages, more power to unions, and dramatically higher taxes to pay for this expansion of big government. Sound familiar? Simply add in "green energy" and this is the same toxic brew of the Obama game plan.

5 Reasons Why American Riots Will Be The Worst In The World
Must have read my book. ~Bob

‘We Can’t Wait’ to Fundraise: Obama Tries to Revive That 2008 Feeling: With Valerie Jarrett at his side, the president took Air Force One to Chicago and his first of Friday's five donor events. by Bridget Johnson
Excerpt: The past couple of months have seen a frenzied push of “We Can’t Wait" initiatives from the White House, whether it’s launching 15 new Institutes for Manufacturing Innovation or expanding government purchases of bio-based products. Now, President Obama can’t wait to fundraise. Last week at this time, the president was giving a standard post-jobs-report speech touting the 8.3 percent unemployment rate at a Virginia Rolls-Royce Crosspointe facility.

What I’ve learned about the Hollywood left
Excerpt: “When I set out to spend a year investigating the hypocrisies of the Hollywood left, I never imagined I would end up having my camera smashed and being challenged to a fistfight for asking Chris Rock why he calls the tea party racist. But the hatefulness and rage of Rock pales in comparison to what my research uncovered about many of his and Obama’s pals.” (The legacy of Wright shows itself. --Barb.)

CALIFORNIA --White-dominated boards face legal threats over racial makeup
Excerpt: Local governments with white-majority elected boards throughout California are increasingly facing threats of lawsuits for not reflecting the demographics of their constituents. While a labor union is suing the city of Escondido ---- which has one Latina councilwoman although Latino residents outnumber whites ---- other cities and districts in the region could also be vulnerable under the California Voting Rights Act.

US extremist in Somalia fears life in danger
Excerpt: A US-born Islamist fighter viewed as a key foreign leader within Somalia's Shebab militia allied with Al-Qaeda says he fears his life is now in danger from fellow extremists. Omar Hamami -- better known as Abu Mansoor al-Amriki -- gave the warning in an undated video posted on several Somali websites and YouTube Saturday. (Most victims of Allahmurder are Muslims, but I doubt I'll stay awake worrying about this guy. ~Bob.)

Forced marriage: Step-father, elderly ‘husband’ arrested : Girl, 12, says her step-father agreed to marriage to settle his debt. By Shamsul Islam
Excerpt: Four people were arrested by Mochiwala police on Sunday on a girl’s complaint about her forced marriage to an elderly man to settle a loan her step-father had owed him. (Where the real "War on Women" rages. ~Bob.)

Egyptian Clerics Repeat Franklin Prophecy Myth, Call the Jews "Donkeys" and "Apes and Pigs," and Say: Making Our Children Loathe the Jews Is a Form of Worship of Allah
Excerpt: Egyptian cleric Gharib Ramadhan: There are very many traits that characterize the Jews, and the Koran focused on a few of them, such as the violation of commitments, from which we suffer to this day. Not just us in Egypt – the entire world suffers from this. Another trait is their hard-heartedness, God forbid. If you want to know what true hard-heartedness means, go to the Jews. You will find a lot of it there.

Excerpt: I joined a bipartisan group of 56 Senate colleagues, including 10 Democrats, in voting to support Keystone. It fell just short of the 60 votes that were needed, but it shows that there is bipartisan agreement. We’ll never get a handle on our energy problems as long as government keeps throwing obstacles in the path of America’s own energy production.

Why are Supreme Court candidates quiet about unqualified Danny Degnan on judicial ballot? by John Kass
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/ct-met-kass-0316-20120316,0,4939259.column
Another example of The Chicago Way. ~Bob. Excerpt: How can the boss of the Democratic Party take a completely inexperienced political hack — one with little if any courtroom experience — and make him a judge? Ask that of the Democratic candidates and an amazing thing happens. They become awfully quiet.
Imam killed in mosque arson in Belgium: police
Another Muslim victim of Allahmurder. Shi'a mosque, Sunni murderer. ~Bob. Excerpt: A man set fire to a mosque in Brussels on Monday, killing its 47-year-old imam and injuring another person, in an arson attack that destroyed a large part of the building, police told AFP

What Public Employee Unions are Doing to Our Country by William McGurn
Excerpt: This is the reason Governor Chris Christie’s reforms have had such resonance. Almost anywhere he points, he has before him an example of how New Jersey’s bloated public sector is hurting growth, limiting the efficiency of government services, and squeezing middle class families. How many state governors and legislators might be more inclined to do the right thing if before they acted they first said to themselves, “We don’t want to be like New Jersey, do we?”

DOJ seeks to ensure illegal aliens get federal housing
Excerpt: In a case that legal experts say defies logic and common sense, in order to ensure that low-income minorities get taxpayer-subsidized housing, Obama’s Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched a nationwide discrimination probe that, ironically, is focusing on an area where the overwhelming number of public housing residents are Latino and black.

Excerpt: It is sad to see the president of the United States not telling the truth about the current gas crisis, as he barnstorms the country ridiculing those who wish to develop more domestic gas and oil. Yes, we are pumping more oil since January 2009, but only due to prior public leases granted before he took office and new ones on private lands that came despite rather than because of his policies.

CBO: Regulations, Taxes Can Hurt Small Businesses
Excerpt: A CBO report published March 12 examines the job-creation records of small businesses and the federal regulatory and tax environments they face. It finds that small businesses create more jobs faster than their larger counterparts, but often face pressures arising from federal tax and regulatory policy. “The ability of all firms to expand or become more efficient – that is, to produce goods and services in a more cost-effective way – is influenced by federal policies that determine the taxes those firms pay, the availability of credit, the regulations with which they must comply, and other factors,” the CBO said. (To economic conservatives, this is as obvious as a fire engine speeding past with a wailing siren. To liberals, it is heresy of the worst kind and so obviously untrue that the authors are unfit for continued government employment; burning at the stake is too good for them. At least there is now an official government report saying so. Ron P.)

Victimology 101 at UC San Diego
Excerpt: As had happened on two earlier occasions on the UCSD campus when a similar divestment initiative was presented, the proposal was roundly defeated in a 20-13 vote, stunning its supporters. (…) But a telling, if not unexpected, thing happened once the student groups who had sponsored this odious divestment resolution actually lost their bid to implement it: supporters of the divestment initiative immediately proclaimed that the initiative had failed because opponents of the resolution were “racists” and bigots. (…) These victimized students and faculty also self-righteously proclaimed in a letter to the UCSD administration that the pro-Israel faculty and staff who spoke against the resolution at the meeting should not even have had a voice in the proceedings….

How Drama Queens Sabotage the Tea Party
Excerpt: Drama queens come in all shapes, sizes, and genders. We have all known our share. Some folks revel in crisis. In a sick way, they need it. The only sense of purpose in their lives arises from perceived persecution and perpetual emergency. Such people actually avoid solutions and resent those who provide them because a solution removes any excuse for mania. (Most professional managers have experience with at least one employee who would’ve made a good contestant on Queen For A Day (a radio and TV show in the 50s where contestants vied to tell the most pitiful life story to win prizes). Fortunately, those employees usually self-destruct in short order and leave on their own, doing minimal damage to the organization because of their short duration as employees. I can only imagine the nightmare they’d be in a voluntary organization. Ron P. Having run volunteer organizations, the volunteer leader who is in it for self-aggrandizement rather than the mission is very destructive. ~Bob.)

What’s Obama’s Game In Iran? Dick Morris TV: Lunch Alert! at DickMorris.com
I highly encourage you to listen to this alert. My bet is Israel will attack before the November election. Morris may underestimate the repercussions as it could be a lot worse if Iran turns Hezbollah loose in the U.S. If Morris is right about Obama, then he is the epitome of selfishness, and is putting Americans and the free world in harms way should Iran get a nuclear weapon. --GBH

Strategy Memo Details Liberal PR Plan to Promote Obamacare
Excerpt: This week, The Heritage Foundation's Rob Bluey obtained a four-page strategy memo that outlines a White House-coordinated campaign to force an unwilling public to accept Obamacare. Once again, all the strategies by the Administration and its liberal allies involve how better to message this hated law as the anniversary of its passage approaches and the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on its constitutionality. If only the Administration put this much effort into lowering the price of gas or creating jobs.

North Korea announces plan to launch long-range rocket mounted with satellite
Excerpt: The North agreed to a moratorium on long-range launches as part of the deal with Washington, but it argues that its satellite launches are part of a peaceful space program that is exempt from any international disarmament agreements. The U.S., South Korea and other critics say the rocket technology overlaps with belligerent uses and condemn the satellite program as a disguised way of testing military missiles in defiance of a U.N. ban. (The only real difference between a “satellite launcher” and an ICBM is the location of where the payload goes. Satellites stay in orbit, warheads reenter to strike a target. EVERY “satellite launcher” that can successfully reach orbit is an ICBM, simply by choosing the right time and place to reenter. In other words, if the North Koreans can reach orbit, they can reach Iowa or either coast. Also, recall that the Iranians launched a satellite about two years ago. Ron P.)

Is Liberalism Lazy and Immoral? Mona Charen
Excerpt: The best advocates are often converts. So it is with Arthur C. Brooks, president of the American Enterprise Institute. Brooks has an important forthcoming book, "The Road to Freedom," which I'll discuss in a minute, but it's worth pausing over the unusual career of Brooks himself because it says much about happiness, free enterprise and the unique American spirit that Brooks has spent the last decade attempting to save. The son of two liberal college professors, Brooks writes that when he was growing up in Seattle, "No one in my world voted for Ronald Reagan.

Despite Rights Concerns, U.S. Plans to Resume Egypt Aid
Aid? Bribe! ~Bob. Excerpt: The Obama administration plans to resume military aid to Egypt, American officials said on Thursday, signaling its willingness to remain deeply engaged with the generals now running the country despite concerns over abuses and a still-uncertain transition to democracy.

Why America's Doctors Are Struggling to Make Ends Meet
Excerpt: Some doctors aren't waiting to find out. Instead, they're going to work for hospitals, which have greater financial resources and, because of their leverage with insurers, are also often paid more than small practices for the same services. The consulting firm Accenture projects that, by 2013, only around a third of doctors in all specialties will own their own practices, down from about 43% in 2009 and nearly half in 2005.

Troops at DFW Mar 14 2012 LAST DAY
Excerpt: This video was taken yesterday, March 14, 2012. It was of the last R and R flight coming to DFW International. There were in excess of 3,000 people there including several Tuskegee Airmen, and Congressman Sam Johnson a former POW of 7 years. The Sergeant Major of the Army was there along with the Commanding General for Ft. Hood as well as other General officers. Also in attendance was Medal of Honor Recipient SSgt Salvatore Giunta. About 10 minutes long but well worth it. --MasterGuns.

Moon History: NASA Video Shows Volcanoes, Meteorite Impacts
Excerpt: How did the 'man in the moon' take shape? A new NASA video on lunar evolution explains the process, from the moon's beginnings as a ball of magma to the intricate craters we see today. It's 4.5 billion years compressed into three minutes. (This is a very plausible audio-visual simulation of how the Moon acquired its current array of features. Oddly, one of the things the science is NOT settled on is how the Moon came to be formed initially and every current idea has problems. Some hold that two near-by balls of gas condensed to form each, independently. Another idea is that the Moon formed elsewhere, made a near-Earth pass and was captured by Earth’s gravity (I sort-of like this one). Still another is that Earth was originally larger, some third object struck it at cometary speed and cracked off the part we now call the Moon. It IS known that at one time the Moon was much closer to the Earth than it is now, but that could fit any of these scenarios. Ron P.)

Bill Maher's Toilet Mouth Exempt From Democrats' Standards of Decency By Crystal Wright
Excerpt: Could it be because Bill Maher is a huge supporter of Democrats and just gave $1 million to Obama’s Super PAC Priorities USA? Maher repeatedly utters vile, disgusting things which go well beyond the point of decency and all we hear is crickets from Democrats and the liberal news media. Maher mocked Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, who prays before games with the following tweet on December 24, 2011 “Wow, Jesus just f**ked #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler “Hey, Buffalo’s killing them.” (I think Limbaugh is a bloviating egotist. He is an entertainer, not a politician or office holder. So is Bill Maher. At least Limbaugh apologized for his slur. Maher has not apologized or retracted his statements )read below) and he has made a big show out of donating a million dollars to Obama's PAC. No one in the Obama camp has even criticized Maher's language even while accepting the money. The liberals are disgusting and extremely hypocritical in their positions and statements about women with whom they disagree. But when a conservative makes even a single remark in bad taste, he his forced to confess, repent, grovel and wear the mantle of bigotry. I used to watch Maher but increasingly found him tiresome in his predictable prejudices and in incredibly bad taste. No one who knows me would call me a prude, but the combination of Maher's boring repartee and bad taste were not worth the price of HBO. Then there is Louis CK, who at least had the common sense to pull out of hosting annual Radio & Television dinner to which the mainstream media had invited him. Listen to this jerk on air: http://cnsnews.com/video/culture/comedian-louis-ck-sarah-palin.The liberals are always bemoaning the lack of civility in politics, but if you express disagreement with Obama you must be a racist. They are the worst offenders of uncivil speech that stems from intolerance that boasts of tolerance. They never feel the need to apologize or curb their bad behavior but would force their opponents to do so (watch FCC proceedings for this). Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

U.S. oil resources: President Obama’s ‘non sequitur facts’ By Glenn Kessler
Excerpt: This appears to be one of President Obama’s favorite facts — he says it almost every time he speaks about energy issues — but readers are getting confused. ... On the surface, the president’s numbers are correct, based on official government data. But this is a good example of what we call “non sequitur facts” — two bits of information that actually bear little relationship to each other.

Are the Food Police Coming to Your Childs School? By Tom Stark
Excerpt: On February 14, the Carolina Journal reported , that on January 30, a pre-K student at the West Hoke Elementary School in Raeford, NC, had her home-packed lunch “inspected” by an unidentified government representative. It is unclear just which government entity employed this inspector. As outrageous as that may sound, one of the federal provisions tacked onto funding provided to schools across the country requires all lunches consumed in schools participating in the program meet federal nutritional guidelines. (This events described below would have been unthinkable a generation (or one president) ago. What right does the government have to mandate what a child eats in the absence of evidence of parental abuse or neglect? This kind of intrusion derives from a philosophy that people are not responsible to make decisions for themselves and that direction from the government is needed. There is slippery slope implied by such actions: because federal money (really our own tax payments) flows by law and regulation back to public and private institutions as well as individuals means that they must comply with federal mandates in all respects. Cordially, Larry Greenberg)

Gov’t Study Asks: What Happens if Someone Nukes D.C.?
Excerpt: Have you ever wondered what would happen if Washington, DC, suffered a nuclear attack? Apparently, some of DC’s higher-ups were wondering the same thing and, like everything else they’re curious about, they decided to conduct a study. Turns out, 10-kiloton nuke would be very, very bad for D.C., Northern Virginia, and Maryland (shocker, I know).
