Catching up on very interesting political news

Update

Thursday we went to visit out friends Chuck and Gloria who have a lovely home on a lake about 90 miles from us (see pics). Went out in their boat and had a very relaxing day. Which meant I had no time to tackle the 150+ emails I had when I came home (more now). I will get through and post what I can, should clean it up over the weekend. ~Bob

Supreme Court Rules Same-Sex Couples Have Right To Marry Nationwide
Excerpt: The Supreme Court declared Friday that same-sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States. Gay and lesbian couples already could marry in 36 states and the District of Columbia. The court’s 5-4 ruling means the remaining 14 states, in the South and Midwest, will have to stop enforcing their bans on same-sex marriage. Gay rights supporters cheered, danced and wept outside the court when the decision was announced. (Maybe we can get by this. The danger to America is not gays marrying, it is straights having kids and not marrying or parenting. ~Bob)

Obama: Ditch Religious Convictions About Same-Sex Marriage Already
Excerpt: President Barack Obama urged supporters of same-sex marriage Friday to “help” people to overcome their religious convictions, so they are no longer held back from a progressive American view of equality. “I know that Americans of goodwill continue to hold a wide range of views on this issue,” he said in a speech following the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling to Constitutionally recognize same-sex marriage. He initially espoused respect for those who disagree with the ruling.

Hillary Clinton Takes Private Jet to Give Speech on Social Inequality. By Andrew Stiles
Excerpt: Hillary Clinton gave a speech Tuesday near Ferguson, Mo., site of anti-police riots inspired by the controversial shooting death of Michael Brown. Clinton’s speech at Christ the King United Methodist Church of Christ in the nearby town of Florissant focused on issues of racial and social inequality. “Despite our best efforts and our highest hopes, America’s long struggle with race is far from finished,” she said. “We can’t hide from hard truths about race and justice. We have to name them, own them and change them.” Naturally, she arrived in a private jet. After the speech, Clinton was whisked away to a $2,700-per-person fundraiser hosted by a Budweiser heiress.

Somewhere Nixon is Smiling: Lois Lerner’s Hard Drive Was SHREDDED
Excerpt: Former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner’s hard drive most likely crashed due to “an impact of some sort,” like somebody hitting it or smashing it, according to new congressional testimony. Then the hard drive was shredded and its pieces were sold for scrap. Lerner’s laptop, which crashed on June 11, 2011 between 5 and 7 PM, was sent to an IT technician two days later. The Hewlett-Packard technician looking at her laptop determined that the hard drive failed because of an impact of some sort.

As homicides rise, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn awaits his professional fate. By M.D. Kittle
Excerpt: Amid alarming homicide statistics and dwindling officer morale, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn could soon be getting a contract extension. While there were rumors circulating Thursday that the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission had all but decided a two-year contract extension for Flynn, a commission official said that’s not the case. Contract matters must be discussed and voted on in public.

Social Security paid the dead $47M, audit says
Excerpt: The Social Security Administration (SSA) paid individuals acting as representatives for disabled beneficiaries nearly $50 million even though they were dead. An audit from the Office of Inspector General (OIG) is just the latest example of the SSA’s inability to figure out who on their rolls is still alive. The audit focused on “representative payees,” or a person who manages another’s finances due to mental or physical limitations. (Gee, just imagine how many can vote since the Dems want no analysis of voting rolls or ID and everything on the computer where it can be hacked readily. Do you think the dead will get mad when the money runs out? --Barb. No, when the money runs out, there will be riots and lots more dead. ~Bob)

Important: Why Greece Won't Pay By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: For almost six years Greece has been on the cusp of financial disaster. Its Northern European and international creditors have extended loans, suspended interest payments and forgiven some debt. But European lenders have also stubbornly kept to the old-fashioned principle that debtors freely borrowed their money from lenders, and therefore most borrowed money must be paid back, regardless of the current financial status of the debtors. Greece counters that after all sorts of austerity budgets, it simply can no longer inflict the necessary pain on its relatively tiny population to squeeze out enough cash to pay its well-off creditors. In other words, borrowed money only sometimes must be paid back -- depending on the relative wealth of the respective borrower and lender.

Excerpt: Chief Justice John Roberts’ re-write of the Affordable Care Act now goes on the books as another nod to federal government authority over the limitations imposed, either knowingly or unwittingly, by the people’s branch — Congress. Yes, the Executive Branch can define what our laws mean — even if it is the opposite of what the words in the law say. The same day the Court ruled on Obamacare they also ruled that cities can be held liable when not enough minorities live in any given neighborhood — even if discrimination was never at play. ...To complete the trifecta of an unlimited government, the IRS revealed that despite federal court orders to preserve evidence ordered to be turned over to Congress and litigants, the IRS nevertheless erased Lois Lerner’s e-mails.

Obama has issued 19 secret directives
Excerpt: PPD-29 isn't the first to be tacitly acknowledged only by a missing number. Of the 30 PPDs issued by Obama, 19 have not been released. And for 11 of those, the White House has not disclosed even the subject of the order.

Bill Clinton’s New Lady “Friend.” By Ruth King
Excerpt: A New York Times best seller and former Washington Post reporter has released a new book in which he reveals that President Bill Clinton has a ‘secret’ mistress whose visits are so well known amongst his security staff that she has been given the playful nickname, ‘Energizer.’ Ronald Kessler’s book, titled The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of Presidents, is set to be released in early August. Excerpts were obtained by the New York Post. One source in the book claims ‘Energizer’ has no problem getting inside the Clintons’ home in Chappaqua, New York. “You don’t stop her, you don’t approach her, you just let her go in,” the source is quoted as saying.

China island-building in full swing, Philippine officials say
Excerpt: China is pressing ahead with the construction of artificial islands on at least two reefs that are also claimed by the Philippines in the increasingly tense territorial dispute, Filipino officials said Friday, despite Beijing's pronouncement that some work would end soon. Mayor Eugenio Bito-onon of Kalayaan island, which is under Philippine control in the Spratly islands, where attention has recently focused on China's massive islands reclamation work, said that he flew last week near the Chinese-controlled Subi Reef and saw construction was in full swing with many dredgers and a huge crane visible on the emerging man-made island. ...In the mid-portion of the emerging island, a 1.9-mile-long landfill is taking the shape of a runway, Bito-onon said.

China issues report attacking US human rights record. In its annual rebuttal to accusations of Chinese human rights violations, Beijing accuses the US of being ‘haunted by spreading guns’ and racial discrimination
Excerpt: China accused the United States on Friday of being “haunted by spreading guns” and racial discrimination, in its annual tit-for-tat rebuttal to US criticism of China’s human rights record. In a lengthy report carried by the official Xinhua news agency, China’s State Council Information Office said the United States “violated human rights in other countries in a more brazen manner, and was given more ‘red cards’ in the international human rights field”.

Gun News

Suspect Arrested for Home Invasion Burglary Resulting in Gun Shots
Excerpt: Witnesses told police that the suspect, Damion Hunnicutt, 22, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, walked into a home on Heatherstone Drive unannounced and began yelling and searching for the 21-year-old son of the homeowner. When Hunnicutt encountered the son in the downstairs area of the home, a verbal and eventually physical altercation broke out. Hunnicutt reportedly armed himself with a knife from the kitchen, and as the brawl began to escalate the son shot Hunnicutt with a handgun belonging to the homeowners. Hunnicutt was reportedly shot through one wrist and also suffered a non-penetrating wound to his head.

Police: Pizza deliveryman kills alleged robber in Hollywood, 1 at large
Excerpt: According to the Hollywood Police Department, two masked men believed to be armed with guns, approached the delivery driver, and in fear for his life, he pulled out a gun and fatally shot one of them. The other robber fled the scene. "One suspect fled on foot westbound," said Hollywood Police Officer Meredith Elrich.

Police still looking for Goshen burglary suspect
Excerpt: He said the victim saw and heard a man, estimated to be 18 to 25, standing at the front of her 7931 W. Garfield Road home. The man was wearing jeans, a plaid shirt and a gray stocking cap. “The male walked around and proceeded to ring the doorbell and look in all the windows,” McDaniel said. When she didn’t answer, the man grabbed a large stone from her rock garden and threw it through a window of her house. As that happened, the elderly woman grabbed her gun to keep herself safe. McDaniel said the woman shot at the intruder as he entered her bedroom. The man then ran away.

A man and his family were inside. The homeowner confronted Eudy, who was still trying to break through the broken glass and get inside, according to authorities. Worth Reading: Liberals Are Playing a Racial Shell Game. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: While you try to find a coherent standard in this intellectual morass, I’m going to move on. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal announced this week that he’s running for president. In anticipation of his announcement, the Washington Post assigned two white writers to declare, in effect, that Jindal — the son of Indian immigrants — isn’t a real Indian. The Post promoted the story on Twitter with a quote from a college professor proclaiming, “There’s not much Indian left in Bobby Jindal.” The liberal New Republic followed suit with an attack on Jindal, as well as South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and conservative writer Dinesh D'Souza (Haley is the daughter of immigrants, D'Souza an immigrant himself), as, essentially, Uncle Tom Indians who had to shamefully scrub their Indian identities for their political careers. In the Post’s unsubtle telling, Jindal’s sin is loving America too much.

Black Panther Ex-Chairman: ‘Complete’ Charleston’s Slave Rebellion’s Plan To Kill All Slave Masters
Excerpt: In an angry call to arms just a block away from the site of the Charleston massacre, former New Black Panther Party chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz told a group of about 200 African American Charlestonians that they need to “finish the mission” of killing “slave masters” and their families.

Massachusetts: It’s no Confederate flag, but our banner is still pretty awful. By Yvonne Abraham, Boston Globe
Excerpt: But while we’re on the subject of offensive flags, perhaps we should take a few minutes to contemplate our own. Though the Massachusetts state flag is not as overtly abhorrent as the one that flies on South Carolina’s state capital grounds, it is still pretty awful.
Take a good look.

Excerpt: Should we at least include in the debate about things to be stricken from public view the several dozen public buildings, roads and bridges named after Robert Byrd, the Democrat West Virginia Senator who was before that a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan? Seems like the former Kleagle and politician who filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act should at least be in the mix of the discussion about people who shouldn’t be honored with taxpayer money, and apparently I’m not alone:

There's a Reason We Mostly Hear About White 'Micro-Aggressions.' By Ann Coulter
Excerpt: The massacre of black churchgoers in Charleston by an evil psycho is a hideous thing. The case is especially sickening because the victims were chosen specifically because of their race. Thank God it's extremely rare for whites to target black people for attack. And yet the public is being told by The New York Times, The Washington Post, MSNBC and Salon that the Charleston massacre is proof that we live in a country packed with marauding racist murderers. It's like saying we have an epidemic of men flying gyrocopters onto Capitol Hill. Yes, there's that one time, but I notice you keep citing the same case.

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

Important: Supreme Court upholds ObamaCare subsidies
Excerpt: In the second major court win for President Obama on his signature health care law, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld ObamaCare subsidies in states that did not set up their own health care exchanges. The decision was 6-3. A ruling against the administration would have threatened subsidies in nearly three-dozen states. For months, though, the administration said it had no back-up plans, confident the Supreme Court would rule in its favor. The Supreme Court previously upheld the law's individual mandate in 2012, in a 5-4 decision. (Though I think the court was wrong both times, I expected this. Once government gives benefits, hard to take away. We have raised generations who demand and expect ever more in largess from the federal and state governments. we are now importing millions of illegal immigrants with the same expectations. But the iron laws of economics will not be denied. When "more" runs out in the fairly near future, it will get very ugly. ~Bob)

Worth Reading: On Obamacare, John Roberts helps overthrow the Constitution. By George F. Will
Excerpt: Conservatives are dismayed about the Supreme Court’s complicity in rewriting the Affordable Care Act — its ratification of the IRS’s disregard of the statute’s plain and purposeful language. But they have contributed to this outcome. Their decades of populist praise of judicial deference to the political branches has borne this sour fruit.
The court says the ACA’s stipulation that subsidies are to be administered by the IRS using exchanges “established by the State” should not be construed to mean what it says.

Hey California, Thanks for Paying for My Education
Excerpt: Indira Esparza, a Mexican illegal alien who attracted some attention when she accepted her University of California San Diego (UCSD) diploma draped in a Mexican flag, really knows how to show appreciation to the country that financed her education, even though she was an illegal alien. During the four years she spent at UCSD (occupying a seat that could otherwise have been filled by a legal California resident), Ms. Esparza benefited from California’s in-state tuition policy for illegal aliens. The current in-state tuition fees for full-time UCSD student total $13,456 per year. Full tuition runs a hefty $47,733 per year, meaning that California taxpayers coughed up the difference of $34,277 each year, or a four-year total of $137,108.

Religion of Peace News

Again! Decapitated body found in ‘terrorist attack’ in France
Excerpt: An attacker previously linked to Islamist extremists stormed an American-affiliated gas factory Friday and left a severed head staked at its gates in an assault described by the country’s president as a “pure terrorist attack.” The specific motives for the violence in an industrial park near Lyon were not immediately clear, but officials immediately raised possible links to Islamist militants. (When they heard about this attack, 99% of the people, including those who continually preach that "Islam is a Religion of Peace," assumed that Muslims were behind it. (When a Muslim sociopath whose heart is full of hate for non-Muslims murders infidels in the name of Allah, citing many sura of the Qur'an a his justification, the media and government officials are quick to call it a "lone wolf" attack, nothing to do with Islam, and say we cannot blame all Muslims for the murders. When a white sociopath whose heart is full of hate for non-whites murders blacks and is found to have been immersed in racist propaganda, the media, government officials and the SPLC-Al Sharpton axis are quick to say all whites are racist and must be punished in some way--reparations, harsher restrictions on their Second Amendment rights, etc. ~Bob)

The United States must not accede to Iran’s ‘red lines.’ By David Ignatius
Excerpt: Iran enters the endgame of the nuclear talks with what amount to two negotiating positions — the parameters reportedly endorsed in April in Lausanne, Switzerland, by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and another set of “red lines” drawn this week by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The two positions are significantly different. The first version offers a workable basis for agreement. The second is fatally flawed. It’s not the first time that a country has sent two messages, public and private, on a sensitive issue.

Islamic State attacks Kobane 5 months after ouster; scores reported killed
Excerpt: Islamic State militants stormed into the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobane on Thursday, launching suicide attacks and gunning down civilians five months after area with the help of U.S.-led airstrikes. Assailants in five cars penetrated Kurdish defenses shortly before dawn, carried out a suicide bombing and then fanned out in an apparent attempt to blast their way into the town on the Syrian-Turkish border, said Redur Xelil, a spokesman for the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, which reclaimed Kobane in January.

Islamic State kills at least 145 civilians in Syria's Kobani
Excerpt: Islamic State fighters killed at least 145 civilians in an attack on the Syrian town of Kobani and a nearby village, in what a monitoring group described on Friday as one of the worst massacres carried out by the hardline group in Syria. Islamic State pressed a separate assault to capture government-held parts of the northeastern city of Hasaka, blowing up a security building and triggering a government appeal for all residents to take up arms. The United Nations said 60,000 people were reported to have fled the attack.

Why many Kurds in Turkey are willing to die in Syria’s border towns. By Ishaan Tharoor
Excerpt: The plight of Kobane, a predominantly Kurdish town right on the border with Turkey, is a lightning rod for many Kurds in Turkey. It's adjacent to the Turkish town of Suruc, where many residents have direct ties of kinship and clan to those living in Kobane. Last year, as Kobane was besieged by jihadist forces, hundreds of thousands of Syrian Kurdish refugees sought sanctuary across the border.

Our $335 Million Power Plant Outside Kabul Is Operating at 2 Percent Capacity. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: The U.S. Agency for International Development invested $335 million in the plant, and yet there are reports of electrical shortages in Kabul following avalanches in northern Afghanistan in February 2015. Despite the usual cost overruns and problems during construction, the power plant was ultimately handed over to the Afghan government in June 2010. Last year, the USAID Office of Inspector General completed a review assessing the power plant, concluding that the power plant is severely underused, operating at just 2.2 percent of power production capacity, and that the Afghan national power utility could not afford to operate the power plant, with an estimated $245 million per year needed for the fuel alone.

This won't end well: Transsexual Gay Duo Seeks 'Acceptance' - in ISIS
Excerpt: A Russian pair are giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "going off the straight and narrow" - the two, a transsexual man and his gay female friend, have left to join the brutal Islamic State (ISIS) terror group in Syria after complaining they weren't accepted in Russia. The duo from the Kamchatka region of far-eastern Russia apparently were unaware that ISIS publicly executes gay people by throwing them off buildings and stoning them, reports the British Daily Mail on Wednesday. Alexei T. and Viktor E., who goes by Viktoria and dresses as a woman, reportedly left home after being lured by online ISIS videos which pander to a disenfranchised young crowd - but not to young homosexuals or transgenders who feel ostracized in their home communities.

Eradicating Female Genital Mutilation in Iraqi Kurdistan. By Irfan Al-Alawi and Stephen Schwartz
Excerpt: The prevalence of female genital mutilation (FGM) in Iraqi Kurdistan has declined markedly since the Kurdistan Regional Government prohibited the practice in 2011. The KRG conducts educational activities including certification of midwives, who are often asked to perform FGM, police training, village presentations, school programs, and television films.
In a remarkable example of persuasive power, anti-FGM activism produced a dramatic result in the KRG early last month. The Iraqi Kurdish Xelk Media Network disclosed that Mullah Ali Kalak, a Sunni preacher and "healer," had called on Kurdish Muslims to repudiate the anti-FGM regulation. Kalak directs a "Prophetic Medicine Clinic" near the KRG capital, Erbil, and posts popular YouTube sermons.

The sex slaves of slaughter city: Girls as young as nine forced to have sex with ISIS jihadis who treat them as a sick reward for savagery
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3139577/The-sex-slaves-slaughter-city-Girls-young-nine-forced-sex-ISIS-jihadis-treat-sick-reward-savagery.html
Excerpt: Raqqa is the epicentre of global Islamic terror, a place where the barbarism of Islamic State is matched only by the sophistication of its ideologues in using social networking to recruit Muslims from across the world to their 'cause'. This is the hellish city to which the three Dawood sisters, who vanished after telling their families they were on an Islamic pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, are now said to be heading with their nine children, aged between 15 and three.

Kano Sharia Court Sentences Two To Death For Alleged ‘Blasphemy’
Excerpt: An Upper Sharia Court, Rijiyar Lemo, in Kano, has sentenced two persons, Abdul-Inyas and Hajiya Mairo, to death for blasphemy against the Prophet of Islam. The offence, committed in early June, triggered protest in Kano. The demonstration was however promptly quelled by law enforcement agents. A statement by the State Sharia Court of Appeal, signed by a man named Nasiru, said the two persons were found guilty under section 110 and section 382b of the Sharia Penal Court law year 2000.

Former Obama Aides Blast Emerging Iran Nuclear Deal
Excerpt: A group of prominent American security advisers, including five with ties to President Barack Obama's first term, warned on Wednesday that a deal on curbing Iran's nuclear program was at risk of failing to provide adequate safeguards. In an open letter, the group of former U.S. officials and foreign policy experts cautioned that an Iran nuclear deal would "fall short of meeting the administration's own standard of a 'good' agreement" unless it included a tougher line on United Nations nuclear inspections and conditions for sanctions relief. The release of the letter, which was signed by Dennis Ross, an adviser on Iran and the Middle East in Obama's first term, comes as U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry prepares to fly to Vienna on Friday to join the talks. (T he number of well informed people who are worried about a possible giveway to Iran for the sake of making a deal, no matter how flawed, just keeps going up. Are they all just negative people, all just political opponents of Obama? I don't think so, and this is really, truly IMPORTANT. Leaving any kind of loopholes for the Iranians, who have lied, and misinformed, and played games, for so long already is just monumentally stupid, just as stupid as "Peace in our time" was in its day. But Obama wants another "signal achievement" and Kerry is the willing tool to get an agreement, by hook or by crook, and we should all be worried. --Del)

Excerpt: The pilot of the F16 that crashed in Arizona has been identified. Per AP reports, he is Brig. Gen. Rafid Mohammed Hassan, Iraqi Air Force. Brig. Gen Hassan had been training in the US on the F16 in order to use it against ISIS/ISIL/whatever that gang of murderous thugs is called today. His status is still formally unknown.

British And Irish Tourists Die In Beach Horror. The gunman, disguised as a tourist, pulled out a Kalashnikov hidden in an umbrella before firing at holidaymakers on the beach.
Excerpt: A gunman disguised as a holidaymaker has killed at least 37 people, including five Britons, in an attack on a popular tourist resort. Terrified sunbathers ran for their lives as the attacker, dressed in shorts and hiding his Kalashnikov inside an umbrella, opened fire on the beach in Port el Kantaoui on the outskirts of Sousse, Tunisia. He then entered the Imperial Marhaba hotel through the swimming pool area, shooting people as he went and also threw an explosive, witnesses said.

Excerpt: The video, entitled “A song of the free men in the land of Anbar,” shows the Hezbollah Brigades (or Kata’ib Hezbollah, its Arabic name) in operations against the Islamic State. Several scenes show the use of US-made M113 armored personnel carriers, Humvees, and M1 Abrams tanks. However, it is unclear who is operating the Abrams, as the militia operates closely alongside the Iraqi Security Forces. Hezbollah Brigades has shown possession of at least one of the US-supplied main battle tanks in January. One scene, which is from an older video, shows a US MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle being hit with a roadside bomb. It is unclear if the footage is from an attack on an Islamic State-operated MRAP, or if the video is from the US war in Iraq.

Erdogan's Fake Campaign to Save Morsi. By Burak Bekdil
Excerpt: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's fierce campaign to help out his ideological next-of-kin, Egypt's former President Mohamed Morsi, is not doing any favors to the Muslim Brotherhood man. Morsi, who was deposed by General Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi in 2013, was recently sentenced by an Egyptian court to both death and life imprisonment, for separate crimes.
Once again, Erdogan is more motivated by ideological rhetoric -- aimed at boosting his popularity at home and on the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas streets -- than serving a democratic purpose, which, in this case, should be to save Morsi at least from his death sentence.
