Today's important political news and opinion

Update

My Marine Buddy john Payne was discharged from the hospital and is going home to Lousianna Tuesday. Hopefully their treatment plan deals with his problems--back in two months. We went to dinner with him, and I had PT rehab this morning, so didn't clear the email list. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Why CNN’s Jake Tapper Said He Thought He Was ‘Going to Have an Aneurysm’ While Questioning Hillary Clinton Spokeswoman. By Billy Hallowell
Excerpt: CNN’s Jake Tapper said on Sunday that he almost had an “aneurysm” trying to get an answer from Hillary Clinton’s spokeswoman about where the presidential candidate stands on the trade bill that was hashed out in the House of Representatives last week. “I had Karen Finney, her spokeswoman, on the show yesterday, and I thought I was going to have an aneurysm trying to get a an answer from her on what Hillary Clinton’s position is on this bill,” he said. CNN’s Dana Bash told the “State of the Union” host that the campaign likely believes that the issue will only hurt Clinton politically if she definitively weighs in at the moment.

Hillary Clinton Campaign Shuts Out Reporter. By Fred Lucas
Excerpt: Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign shut out a pool reporter in New Hampshire on Monday, renewing longstanding issues about her openness and transparency with the press. Pool reporters represent the other reporters in the news media who cover a candidate when the space for an event is too small to fit a large crowd of journalists. The pooler sends reports back to other news organizations, who can disseminate those dispatches in their own coverage. Thus, blocking pool coverage from a single reporter can block widespread media coverage.

CNN Reporter Refuses to Let Hillary Off the Hook for a Comment She Made at Her Latest Rally Speech. By Michael Hausam
Excerpt: During Hillary Clinton’s big rally speech in New York on Saturday, she made a comment one CNN reporter could not ignore. About 30 minutes into her speech, Clinton said:
“We have to stop the endless flow of secret, unaccountable money that is distorting our elections, corrupting our political process, and drowning out the voices of our people!”

Hillary's Announcement. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
At one point, she declared: We Americans may differ, bicker, stumble, and fall; but we are at our best when we pick each other up, when we have each other’s back. Ambassador Chris Stevens, who asked for additional security personnel in Libya on multiple occasions, could not be reached for comment on whether Hillary had his back.

WaPo Fact Checker: Bill Clinton’s claim that Hillary did economic diplomacy because there was no Commerce Secretary. By Glenn Kessler
Excerpt: Yes, there was some turnover in the leadership of the commerce department. But Clinton’s assertion that if not for Hillary Clinton, “nobody would have been doing” economic diplomacy is quite a stretch, given the dominant role of the Treasury Secretary on international economic issues. That comment tipped this rating toward Three Pinocchios. (Off day. The Clinton standard is four. ~Bob)

Jeb Bush enters 2016 White House race, ending the long wait
Excerpt: Jeb Bush jumped off the sidelines and into the Republican presidential race on Monday, kicking his campaign-in-waiting into gear after spending months raising money and lining up support. The former Florida governor formally announced his 2016 bid at a rally in Miami, vowing to use his executive experience to make Washington work again. "I'm a candidate for president of the United States of America," Bush said. "We will take command of our future once again in this country."

Do not underestimate Jeb Bush. By James Hohmann and Elise Viebeck
Excerpt: But while Jeb has lost momentum, and the mainstream media narrative has turned against him, he continues to have as good or maybe even greater odds as anyone else of becoming the Republican nominee. Let's not forget: he’ll have massively more money than all the other GOP candidates, he could prevail without Iowa (as his dad did in 1988) and the field remains incredibly fragmented (which means he could win early contests with a thin plurality). Even diminished, it’s conceivable that Jeb could win the New Hampshire primary if it took place this week. Here are four other reasons why it’s premature to write Bush’s political obituary:

Tammy Baldwin’s political fixer is helping Hillary attack voter ID. By M.D. Kittle
Excerpt: The Democrat political fixer brought in to repair U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s public relations mess involving a Veterans Affairs medical center is helping Hillary Clinton go after voter integrity laws. Mark Elias, general counsel to Clinton’s presidential campaign, is among a team of lawyers assisting Democrats in their drive to overturn voter ID laws in presidential battleground states North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin.

I've been betting that he doesn't run: It's a Bird, It's a Plane It's...Donald Trump! By Brooke Carlucci
Excerpt: Tomorrow, possible 2016 candidate Donald Trump will make an announcement that he claims will "make a lot of people happy.” Whether or not he becomes an official candidate, he certainly has a number one fan: himself. (I doubt his large, fragile ego couldn't take the stomping he will get. ~Bob)

Double down on socialism: Obamanomics, sidetracked. By Fred Hiatt
Excerpt: It’s not only on trade that President Obama seems to be losing his party. With inequality rising and wages flat, Democrats are pushing Hillary Clinton to move beyond Obamanomics and offer something more dramatic and more radical. But before repudiating Obama’s entire program, it’s worth recalling this: Obamanomics has not failed. It just has not been tried. (Maybe this time it will work. ~Bob)

Excerpt: As reported by The Hill, "The Obama administration is moving forward with regulations designed to help diversify America's wealthier neighborhoods, drawing fire from critics who decry the proposal as executive overreach in search of an "unrealistic utopia." A final Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule due out this month is aimed at ending decades of deep-rooted segregation around the country. The regulations would apply to roughly 1,250 local governments.

How a Union Boss Bought Philadelphia’s Mayoral Election. By Brooke Rogers
Excerpt: Urban Democratic politics have for the past several decades often been a tug of war between black politicians and organized-labor interests. This spring’s Democratic mayoral primary in heavily black Philadelphia saw a decisive victory for one side, with James Kenney, a white union-allied candidate, taking 55.8 percent of the vote over five other contenders. What pushed Kenney to his easy win? In part, thank the clout of big-time Philadelphia labor boss and small-time politician John “Johnny Doc” Dougherty, who along with his union allies seem to have played a big role in Kenney’s victory.

How Many Americans Are Gay
http://m.weeklystandard.com/articles/you-will-be-assimilated_969581.html
Excerpt: How many Americans are gay? For decades, gay-rights activists pushed the line that 1 out of every 10 people is homosexual. This statistic belied all evidence but was necessary in order to imbue the cause with a sense of ubiquity and urgency. The public fell so hard for this propaganda that in 2012 Gallup did a poll asking people what percentage of the country they thought was gay. The responses were amazing. Women and young adults were the most gullible, saying, on average, that they thought 30 percent of the population was gay. The average American thought that 24 percent of the population—one quarter—was gay. Only 4 percent of respondents said they thought homosexuals made up less than 5 percent of the population. But even 5 percent turns out to be an exaggeration. The best research to date on American sexual preference is a 2014 study from the Centers for Disease Control with a monster sample of 34,557 adults. It found that 96.6 percent of Americans identified as heterosexual, 1.6 percent identified as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent as bisexual.

Whole Foods may have a whole new problem
http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/14/whole-foods-may-have-a-whole-new-problem/
Excerpt: 'The New York Times said a Whole Foods in Capitola, Calif., had given a “best” rating to a non-organic variety of asparagus from Mexico that was selling for $4.99 a pound. Nearby, organic asparagus from Durst Organic Growers, which was selling for $7.99 a pound, was labeled “good.” The New York Times said Jim Durst, the farmer, laughed when we was relayed the news of his lower ranked stalks. “Why our asparagus is ‘good’ and not ‘best,’ well, maybe we didn’t fill in the blanks correctly, or didn’t have it done on time,” Mr. Durst told the Times.' This is truly amazing. No… I don’t mean the rating system. I mean that somebody out there is actually paying eight bucks a pound for asparagus.

The tyranny of the mentally ill.
http://www.gaypatriot.net/2015/06/06/the-tyranny-of-the-mentally-ill/
Excerpt: We live under the tyranny of mentally ill people. No, I’m not talking about the delusional megalomaniacal narcissist who is our president, or the paranoid sociopath who is poised to succeed him. I speak of the manner in which our social policies and politics are being tailored to the whims of people who are mentally defective. I am referring to the way our academic institutions, our elected government officials, even our business enterprises are forced to cater to people who are mentally ill at the expense of the rational majority.

The Magna Carta and the 800-Year-Old Struggle for Liberty
http://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2015/06/15/the-magna-carta-and-the-800-year-struggle-for-liberty/
Excerpt: It is also unquestionable that the actions of the barons at Runnymede and the production of the Great Charter, inspired the American Colonists in the 1770s to claim their rights not to be taxed without representation. They made these claims not as Americans, but as transplanted Englishmen – British subjects – who had become habituated to exercising their rights as freemen and they invoked the Magna Carta constantly. The Declaration of Independence most definitely reflects these claims and the later U.S. Constitution only amplifies them. The point I am making – and which the Conference [in Los Angeles] will seek to emphasize—is that a direct thread links our own Constitution and Bill of Rights–which governs our political life and enshrines our political and civil rights–to the events in England 800 years ago. And we cannot afford to forget the arduous journey undertaken by our ancestors to secure these rights–which accrue to us largely by virtue of their fortitude and sacrifices. We need to defy those who would paint the Magna Carta as just a back-room deal between a crooked king and his cronies that the King never took seriously anyway. That is a falsehood. None of the rights we enjoy today in our free society would have been possible without the Magna Carta.

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jun/15/magna-carta-leaders-celebrate-800th-anniversary-runnymede
Excerpt: The site is now a National Trust park, but Runnymede was originally chosen as the agreed venue because the boggy ground prevented either the king or his barons from bringing their armies for battle.

The Field Where Liberty was Sown: Magna Carta by Mark Steyn
http://www.steynonline.com/7003/the-field-where-liberty-was-sown
Excerpt: Magna Carta Libertatum (my italics - I don't think they had 'em back then) gets it the right way round. It was in some respects a happy accident. In 1215, a bunch of chippy barons were getting fed up with King John. In those days, in such circumstances, the malcontents would usually replace the sovereign with a pliable prince who'd be more attentive to their grievances. But, having no such prince to hand, the barons were forced to be more inventive, and so they wound up replacing the King with an idea, and the most important idea of all - that even the King is subject to the law.

How the common folk live: Prince puts on private show at White House

Spotted at the exclusive two-hour concert — during which Prince played hits including “Kiss” and “Purple Rain” — were Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his date, singer Ciara, artists Jon Bon Jovi and James Taylor, TV & film stars Tyler Perry, Connie Britton, Angela Bassett, Gayle King, Tracee Ellis Ross, fashion designer Naeem Khan and J.Crew’s Jenna Lyons. Also there: Carlyle’s David Rubenstein, 32 Advisors’ Robert Wolf and American Express’ Ken Chenault, plus DC power players former Attorney General Eric Holder, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and National Security Adviser Susan Rice. First daughters Sasha and Malia were also at the show, we’re told. (Private party for African American music appreciation. Celebrating BLP? Because some details leaked by those who tweeted/posted, Earnest claims POTUS' actions "transparent." --Barb)

White House Defends 'Private' Prince Concert With 500 People: 'They Did It On Their Own Dime'
Excerpt: At the White House today, Press Secretary Josh Earnest defended Saturday night’s “private” concert with Prince. Although rumors had surfaced about the concert, the White House was silent about the event that brought up to 500 people to the event and did not inform the press about it. News of the event quickly leaked on social media – including posts from Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Rev. Al Sharpton.

IRS Finds 6,400 New Lois Lerner Emails…Gives DUMBEST EXCUSE YET For Not Releasing Them. By Patrick Howley
Excerpt: The Internal Revenue Service found 6,400 more Lois Lerner emails — but they’re not handing them over in court. The IRS’ latest excuses are nothing short of infuriating. Department of Justice lawyers Geoffrey J. Klimas and Stephanie Sasarak, acting as counsel for the IRS, submitted a U.S. District Court filing June 12 in the case Judicial Watch v. Internal Revenue Service. The court filing, provided to The Daily Caller, claims the IRS received new Lerner emails from the Treasury Department’s inspector general (TIGTA) but can’t fork over the emails to Judicial Watch, a nonprofit group suing to get the emails. Why? Because the IRS is busy making sure that none of the emails are duplicates – you know, so as not to waste anyone’s time.

TransRace, TransSex, TransAbled: Objective Truth and Self-Marginalization
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/theanchoress/2015/06/12/transrace-transsex-transabled-objective-truth-and-self-marginalization-2/
Excerpt: We are living in transient times. The most interesting and ironic thing about the End of Objective Truth is that it has been brought about (and celebrated) largely by people who have proudly, for some decades, eschewed the idea of faith and “bronze age oogedy boogedy”, for the world of hard facts and science. Often they will tell you that they do not believe in God because they live in a world buttressed by the (Catholic-invented) Scientific Method, and full of measurable, verifiable and quantitative data. Now, it seems, Science is to be thrown into the dumpster, along with God.

The Weakest Generation: Mass Insanity is Creating a Snowflake Generation
http://www.the-american-interest.com/2015/06/13/mass-insanity-is-creating-a-snowflake-generation/
Excerpt: This is the kind of story that really does speak for itself. Who knew that an epidemic of mass insanity would lead a generations of parents to warp their kids into weak and fragile Precious Snowflakes who are simply unable to cope with the normal stresses and strains of daily life? Today’s children will grow up in a dangerous world in which the forces of order are staging a disorderly retreat before the geopolitical ambitions of dictatorships on the one hand and the pornographic fantasies of blood-crazed religious fanatics on the other.
There are real monsters out there and homework isn’t one. If kids are not taught to manage daily life, they certainly won’t be able to face the ordeals that await them as adults.

The Eagle Must Show its Talons: China’s ‘Closed Sea’ Openly Challenges American Free Trade. By Jarrett Stepman
Excerpt: However, the recent aggressive actions by China in the South China Sea—in which they claim that this massive waterway is a virtual extension of their country’s sovereignty—should open the eyes of the American people. The recent, extensive cyber attack on the Office of Personal Management system, which Breitbart’s John Hayward and others have called the “Pearl Harbor of the First Cyber War,” should also be a clear sign that the Chinese intend to do much more than trade and rise alongside the United States. The Middle Kingdom poses the greatest challenge to the global system the United States has propped up, and history offers a good lesson about what the world’s preeminent superpower must do to remain on top.

Gun News

Excerpt: U.S. President Ronald Reagan carried a .38 caliber revolver with him at all times while he was in office, according novelist Brad Meltzer: ... In 1933 Reagan pulled a .45 revolver on an armed robber, saving a nursing student that was his target. There is anecdotal evidence that he regularly concealed carried a .32 revolver for a period of time in his younger years after he stopped that robber. Meltzer’s story confirms that Reagan was a firm and life-long believer in carrying a concealed weapon for self-defense, even when afforded the protection of the Secret Service.

Good News: Unsecure Obamacare Database Keeps Personal Information Forever. By Katie Pavlich
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2015/06/15/good-news-government-obamacare-database-keeps-personal-information-forever-n2012779?utm_source=thdailypm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl_pm&newsletterad=Excerpt: The decision to keep the personal information of enrollees forever has raised the ire of experts. Lee Tien, a senior staff attorney for the Electronic Frontier Foundation stated that it is irresponsible of the government to retain data any longer than is necessary. Similarly, Michael Astrue, a former Social Security Commissioner has argued that there is no justification for keeping this data permanently. In addition, he worries that the federal government is illegally expanding MIDAS by adding personal information from state-run Obamacare exchanges without proper privacy consent.

Illegal Alien [DREAMER] Molests A Little Girl In Church, But He Has A RIDICULOUS ‘Excuse’ (VIDEO)
Excerpt: Hilario Ortiz Baltazar, 45, was in a church in Tempe, Arizona. This is where his eye caught something desirable to a pedophile – a little 10-year-old girl. According to police, the illegal alien physically grabbed the girl’s hand and placed it on his crotch before proceeding to kiss her, caress her back, and rub her butt. ... He has since been charged with suspicion of aggravated assault and molestation of a child, but the worst was yet to come. While police questioned the man, he admitted to touching the girl but said he had a perfectly adequate reason – she was flirting with him. Unfortunately that’s not the end of this perverts lunacy as he then went on to suggest something even worse.

Illegals suffering terribly in camps with beauty salons, schools, health clinics, gymnasiums
http://newsmachete.com/?news=697
Excerpt: “I would be lying if I said they didn’t treat us well,” said Y.G.G., a 27-year-old woman who has been at the camp here since February with two children, ages 9 and 6. She said she had fled Honduras after vengeful drug traffickers murdered five of her relatives and told her that she was next. You see, every immigrant has a legitimate reason for being here. It must be quite an extensive network of drug traffickers who could track Y.G.G. to any part of Honduras, in every city and village. It must be really extensive because Y.G.G. didn't go to Nicaragua, or El Salvador, or Mexico. It's clear the only place she can be safe from them is in America, which justifies her being allowed to stay.

The EPA will fix this: America’s Most Advanced Climate Station Data Shows US In A 10-Year Cooling Trend. By Michael Bastasch
Excerpt: Data from America’s most advanced climate monitoring system shows the U.S. has undergone a cooling trend over the last decade, despite recent claims by government scientists that warming has accelerated worldwide during that time.
The U.S. Climate Reference Network was developed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide “high-quality” climate data. The network consists of 114 stations across the U.S. in areas NOAA expects no development for the next 50 to 100 years.
The climate stations use three independent measurements of temperature and precipitation to provide “continuity of record and maintenance of well-calibrated and highly accurate observations,” NOAA states on its website.

The Story Behind ‘AmreekiWitness,’ - 17-Year-Old Tech-Savvy Virginian Who Ran An ISIS Twitter Account
Excerpt: The FBI confiscated a package in early January that was bound for a the 17 year-old, straight from the Islamic State. But the contents weren’t meant for him — rather, he intended to pass it on to an 18 year-old companion who would later join the terror network in Syria. A smartphone with international capability, a USB thumb drive and handwritten letter in English and Arabic were inside the package, delivered to Ali Shukri Amin, according to his plea in federal court Thursday. Despite the FBI confiscating the parcel, alerted to Amin’s support for the Islamic State last November, contact Reza Niknejad boarded an international flight early this year, leaving only a letter and USB thumb drive for his family to indicate he’d never return.

Excerpt: Mass migration threatens European civilisation, Hungary's controversial Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Tuesday. "Today mass migration is taking place around the globe that could change the face of Europe's civilisation. If that happens, that is irreversible," Mr Orban said at a conference in honour of former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl, who recently turned 85. "There is no way back from a multicultural Europe. Neither to a Christian Europe, nor to the world of national cultures," Mr Orban added. He insisted that migration needs to be addressed seriously. "If we make a mistake now, it will be forever," Mr Orban, 52, said.
