Political and a little new lung news

My lung function continued to decline over the weekend (I breath hard getting dressed), so they have moved my next "clean out" bronchoscopy to Tuesday, 3/25 from Thursday, 3/27. That will hopefully determine if I can wait until the scheduled surgical bronchoscopy on 4/11 to do more debriding, or if it must be moved up. If posts go suddenly dark, I'm probably back in the hospital, but will resume when I can. But without the new lung, I doubt I'd have been alive now, so I like to say I'm playing with House Money. I remain very positive, have a great healthcare team and will fight all the way to make it work. The Marines taught me a lot--but not how to quit. ~Bob

I'm Tired--the Energizer Bunny of Blog Posts
I suddenly had a flurry of 13 comments on this five-year-old essay that went viral in 2009. Most were very positive, but I loved this one from a tolerant, non-violent liberal: ""Wow... You are a sick, twisted, evil human being with a black heart and soul. Saying things like that - about killing pregnant women and children - even being a non-violent person, I wish I could be in front of you right now so I can rip your throat out, you sick bastard. I sound no better than you right now, I realize... but I would LOVE to beat you to death with my bare hands." I have no idea what he's talking about--I don't think I mentioned killing pregnant women and children in the essay, except for those murdered by Islamists in the name of Allah. Liked this comment too: " I'm guessing - judging by the above post alone - that whatever previous posts that got deleted were due to you being a touch crazy. No offense. But that's what it seems, and I can only imagine what the other posts, that god deleted, were like." There are over a 1,000 comments posted on "I'm Tired--guess he didn't notice there were other pages of them. maybe because he's a touch stupid? I do delete Spam posts advertising websites selling stuff, but not comment ones unless the language is too foul, though I early blocked a fellow who tried to take over the blog, posting a rant on every post I put up. But if God is deleting posts, as this fellow says, I'm not about to question him. From the comments, I suspect they read an edited version on the net, didn't bother to read the correct version they posted comments on. ~Bob.

Another Old Jarhead Blog Post
I try to never miss a day checking on you and your blog. The Nation could use a lot more people like you but by the time they realize the need it might be too late. When I read your health issues I am reminded that at 70 I am fortunate that most of my problems can be treated with drugs. Keep fighting and keep trusting. We are really lucky to live in a place where people dedicate their lives to helping others through medicine and research. --Mike G.

Book Recommendation: The Black Family in Slavery and Freedom, 1750-1925. By Herbert G. Gutman
This well researched and extensively documented history, published in 1976, presents a far more positive and uplifting view of black people living under the evil of slavery than the current standard, and in my view condescending and racist view of blacks, then and now, and that today's pathologies in the black community are a result of slavery, which destroyed the black family. Unfortunately, despite extensive, data-driven research, it has failed to change the national understanding of slavery and blacks. I think this is because there is great political value to the race-baiters and big-government politicians in keeping the majority of black people convinced they are eternally the victims of the legacy of slavery, and can only depend on government programs and special preferences to get ahead or even get by, because slavery has left them unable to compete with whites. It must be said that Professor Gutman's research is often presented at tedious length, and the history buff, as opposed to the working historian, may want to skip the extensive pages of genealogies created from plantation and Freedmen's Bureau records he uses to hammer home his points. But Gutman conclusively demonstrates that, despite the evils of families being broken up by sale of a partner or child, the vast majority of slaves lived in dual headed-households, that a large majority formed long lasting marriages, that they formed kin networks across plantation lines (similar to west African kin networks), that a majority of slave children were named by their parents, often for a relative, living or dead, and that a great many adopted surnames before the end of slavery, often unknown to the slave-owner and not based on his name. He also demonstrates that slaves had their own culture, that was not imitative of planter culture as often assumed. For example, in slave culture, marrying blood cousins was taboo, while it was widely practiced among the elite white planter class. Most slaves were not promiscuous, living in the moment, unable to form personal bonds because of slavery, as too many think today. They were a resilient and adaptable people in the face of great headship and evil. Blacks, Gutman's research shows, had a stronger family structure in 1866 than Americans of any color have today. Most telling, the vast majority of slave children grew up in dual-headed households, despite the breakup of many families by sale. And when death or sale broke up a household, the children were very often taken in and raised by kin or friends, despite how little they had. Contrast that with today where 70% of black babies, about 50% of Latino babies and about 30% of white babies are now non-marital births (and growing every year--whites are catching up), which is highly correlated with poverty, poor education and behavioral problems. Despite the extensive tables, the book also contains countless personal and inspiring stories from the records and letters that would make you weep. The one that stuck in my mind was a petition of recently-freed slaves to the Freedmen's Bureau, asking for help dealing with the white landowners (who weren't inclined to be over-generous with workers they used to "own"!). These former slaves wrote that, "We are a working class of people." Would they consider contemporary Americans, black or white, a "Working class of people"? One wonders if the blacks folks in slavery or immediately after abolition would not feel contempt for our culture today for squandering what they longed and labored to hard to obtain.

The Ukraine Famine
If you think KGB Agent Putin can be deterred, you probably know nothing about the famine the Russian communists created in the Ukraine in the 1930s, to suppress the area, at a cost of an estimated 14M lives (compared to the 6M Jews murdered by the Nazis). Leftwing progressives denied it happened until the truth came out after the collapse of the USSR--since then they just ignore it, meaning that everyone knows about the Holocaust, though it is denied by Muslims and Neo-Nazis, but few know about the Ukraine Famine.

Russian forces storm one of the last Ukrainian military outposts in Crimea
Excerpt: With a burst of automatic weapons fire and stun grenades, Russian forces in armored personnel carriers on Saturday broke through the walls of one of the last Ukrainian military outposts in Crimea, then quickly overpowered Ukrainian troops armed only with sticks.

Going around the Internet, without attribution, but interesting. ~Bob:
Let me see if I have this right
Ukraine buys almost all its energy (natural gas)from Russia. Revenues from natural gas sales are a primary source of income for Russia. Because of the recent disagreement between Ukraine and Russia, Russia is raising the price of natural gas it sells to Ukraine. Ukraine is almost broke and can’t afford the increase in the natural gas price because it would be forced into bankruptcy. Obama just announced the United States is giving Ukraine $1 billion to assist in paying for the higher priced natural gas it buys from Russia. So, the United States is actually giving Russia $1 billion because the money is just passing through Ukraine. The first question: Has Putin figured out a way to raise the price of his natural gas sales and make the U.S. pay for the increase? Next question: Was he really in the KGB or was he a commodities trader? If this analysis is accurate, Putin just got Obama to pay him $1 billion by holding a press conference and trucking some troops across town from the Russian Navy base in Ukraine. Who is the smartest guy in the room now? (Well, we could supply natural gas from fracking, except the green lobby has Obama in it's pocket, has blocked building plants to liquefy the gas to be shipped by sea. Better both the Ukrainian and the US poor pay more for energy, increasing income inequality, than Obama offend the green zealots. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Note: Thanks to the NSA Obama was able to tap Vladimir Putin's phone. Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act (and a brother in law in the NSA) I was able to get a copy of one of Vlad's conversation. "Interesting!" (Funny satire--but sadly probably very close to true. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Economic growth is a miracle cure. For the last 50 years real income per person in the United States has been growing at a rate of about 2.3% per year. Although that may not sound like such a big deal, that small increase adds up year after year. So much so that real incomes will actually double every 31 years. If we think of the average year for child birth as being close to age 31, then income will double for every generation. Let’s assume you are in an average income family earning about $50,000 a year. If your children also earn an average income, by the time they grow up and reach your age they will be earning $100,000 a year — and that’s in current dollars. If your grandchildren follow the same trajectory, by the time they reach your age they will be earning $200,000. That’s what Barrack Obama calls rich. Your great grandchildren will earn $400,000 — which is enough to put them in the top 1% of the income distribution, were they alive today! (Dr. Goodman is right. But "Economic Growth" has a huge problem as an anti-poverty program--it doesn't provide jobs for government bureaucrats and union members who vote Democrat, and it rewards hard work and entrepreneurship, not politically-favored Democrat constituencies. This is why progressive government works against economic growth. I recommend subscribing to Dr. Goodman's free blog and to the Daily Policy Digest at ncpa.org. ~Bob)

Mass. House votes to expel jailed member
Excerpt: For the first time in almost a century, members of the Massachusetts House of Representatives expelled one of their own Thursday, casting out Rep. Carlos Henriquez following his conviction in a domestic violence case.

Excerpt: It’s reassuring to see liberal Massachusetts politicians upholding the moral standards we have come to expect of them: :On January 15th, Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence supporter and Massachusetts state representative Carlos Henriquez (D-5th Suffolk Dist.) was sentenced to six months in jail for punching a woman who refused to have sex with him." ... Just so long as he opposes firearms, we know that he is a good person, even if he does punch women who don’t want to have sex with him. If he were a Republican, on the other hand, Dems would finally have proof of the mythical War on Women. (From February, but I missed it. Funny how often those "non-violent leftists become violent. see the "I'm Tired" post above. ~Bob.)

Geert Wilders: Shooting the Messenger. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: Two years ago, I was asked to contribute a foreword to Geert Wilders' book, Marked For Death: Islam's War Against The West And Me, which can be purchased through the SteynOnline bookstore, and helps keep my current legal battle afloat. Buying Marked For Death will also help Geert Wilders with his latest legal difficulties. In today's edition of De Volksrant - which is Dutch for, er, The Folks' Rant - Jan Jaap de Ruiter has a column called "Geert Wilders democratisch bestrijden? Vergeet het maar" - or "Geert Wilders' democratic battle? Fuhgeddaboutit". Minheer de Ruiter suggests that Wilders' party has only one goal: "spreading the poison of xenophobia" via "its message of hate and loathing".

Geert Wilders Delenda Est! Posted By Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: The political climate in the Netherlands surrounding Mr. Wilders now resembles the demonization of Pym Fortuyn in the months leading up to his assassination almost twelve years ago. In order to facilitate the permanent elimination of a popular politician, any shame concerning his murder must first be removed from popular culture. It’s not as if the major Dutch political parties custom-ordered that video from a Muslim thug-rapper. “Kill Geert” is simply part of the ubiquitous political atmosphere in the Netherlands at the moment. Everyone — liberal or conservative, native or immigrant — is breathing it.

Doctor Doom. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: Dr Michael E Mann, serial litigant and Mustafa Prize winner, has a new column out, as he does every couple of days, called "Why Global Warming Will Cross a Dangerous Threshold in 2036". The lads at MSNBC summarize it thus: "One Scientist Argues 2036 Could Be Point of No Return for Climate Disaster." I think he means that, on its current pace, that's the year the DC court will deliver its verdict in Mann vs Steyn. One can understand why he's concerned: If his calculations are accurate, we have less time than you might think. "If his calculations are accurate"? You're not questioning his science, are you? As for having "less time than you might think", that rang a very faint and distant bell:

VIDEO: Rappin' on Geert. Posted by Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: The video clip shows a man in a blond wig representing the Dutch politician Geert Wilders, the leader of the Party for Freedom. The fake Geert is abducted by armed men and brought to Hozny, who makes him kneel in front of an Islamic flag. The clip ends with a shot of Wilders being executed.

Senate Could Destroy the First Amendment Soon
Excerpt: Chuck Schumer – scion of the Left and senior Senator from the Nanny State of New York -- believes that he and his comrades in the Senate could be very close to derailing our freedom of speech… and he seems to think this is a GOOD THING. Senator Schumer is spearheading an effort to get a “media shield law” passed through Congress, and he believes that there are now enough supporting members in the Senate to get the job done. Several high profile Republicans seems ready to join the Democrats and liberal Independents in an effort to pass new provisions to ensure that members of the press retain their right to free speech/press.

The Insidious Effect of Political Correctness
Excerpt: When I was in high school in Detroit, there was a great deal of emphasis on clothing. As I became increasingly interested in fitting in with the “in crowd,” fashion supplanted academic achievement in my hierarchy of importance. My grades plummeted, and I became a person who was less pleasant and more self-absorbed.

Tommy Robinson: Case Adjourned Until July. Posted by Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: As mentioned here on Wednesday, Tommy Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, was summoned to appear in court that day on charges related to his speech at an EDL demo in Tower Hamlets last September. However, Tommy never made it to court — he refused to leave the prison where he is currently held, since it would have meant being returned to a different and more dangerous prison, where he would have been held in solitary confinement.

A Federal Jury Speaks, and Academic Freedom Wins. By David French
Excerpt: Yesterday, in Greenville, N.C., a federal jury found that the University of North Carolina–Wilmington (UNCW) violated the free speech rights of conservative Christian professor Mike Adams. Specifically, the jury found that Dr. Adams’s First Amendment–protected speech was a “substantial or motivating factor” in the defendants’ decision not to promote him to full professor and that defendants could not prove they would have made the same decision in the absence of Dr. Adams’s speech activity. The case now moves to the judge to determine Dr. Adams’s relief. (This is truly great thing, that at long, long last a distinguished professor, whose performance as a teacher has been exemplary and recognized as such, is again recognized simply as a person with the rights to his own opinions and to express those opinions publicly. The university authorities are now exposed as the malicious, biased hypocrites that they are, in trying so hard and so deviously to deny the professor seniority simply because he is an outspoken Christian conservative. As an outspoken atheist liberal he was just fine, but once he changed into something else he was subject to blatant discrimination. The hypocrisy of academic liberals is so deep that it is a shameful disgrace on the system. They are the protectors of individual rights and champions of free speech..... as long as it's the rights of those on the Left and the kind of speech that they like. --Del. PS- the legal team that worked on this for Dr. Adams was from ACLJ, a Christian/Conservative group that seeks to help Christians and conservatives who are being persecuted for their views. They deserve our financial support, and here is the link to their website. http://aclj.org/)

Why Obama Scares Me. By Mona Charen
Excerpt: The most febrile of George W. Bush haters liked to claim during his tenure that the former president "scared" them. There is far more reason to be frightened by President Barack Obama, because fecklessness and inconstancy trigger wars.

Gunmen kill prominent Iraqi cleric in Mosul
Excerpt: Unknown gunmen killed a cleric, who had taken a stand against extremism and terrorism, at his home in southern Mosul, the Iraqi police in Ninawa province said Wednesday (March 19th). (I just can't figure out why more moderate Muslims don't speak out against the Islamists. ~Bob)

A Cambodian Spring Tsunami. By Michael Benge
Excerpt: Most of the major media recently missed a chance to give democracy a boost, choosing instead to ignore events in Cambodia of major significance. Millions of Cambodians overcame the horrors of the Khmer Rouge genocide and their fear of the repressive Hun Sen regime, Khmer Rouge holdovers, and turned out in en masse to vote for a coalition of democratic opposition parties known as the CNRP (Cambodian National Rescue Party) in last July’s elections. Unfortunately, the government-appointed National Election Commission gave Hun Sen’s ruling party, the CPP (the communist Cambodian Peoples Party) 68 parliamentary seats (still a loss of 22) and the CNRP only 55. The CNRP claims that a free and fair election would have given it 63 parliamentary seats, leaving just 60 for the CPP. Even so, the CNRP did quite well in spite of being denied access to TV, radio and most print media.

Putin’s Growing Boot Print on the World’s Neck. By Marilyn Assenheim
Excerpt: Vladimir Putin’s takeover in Crimea remains in the forefront of the news. That is, unless commentary about illegal butt-enhancing injections or belly-aching about FLOTUS and her daughters’ media-blackout Red China vacation (er…I mean “official visit to expand Sino-American relations”) takes the spotlight.

Even Government Agrees Head Start is a Failure. Matt Mackowiak
Excerpt: In 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services commissioned a study to evaluate Head Start's effectiveness. The study found that though the program had a "positive impact" on children's experiences through the preschool years, "advantages children gained during their Head Start and age 4 years yielded only a few statistically significant differences in outcomes at the end of 1st grade for the sample as a whole. Impacts at the end of kindergarten were scattered." Wait, only a "few statistically significant differences," for $8,000 per child per year? And this is what the government found! (Since the money mostly goes to the Democrat faithful, they think it's a great success. ~Bob)

Oregon Obamacare website cost $300 million in tax dollars, 0 enrollees, as in none. By Nick Sorrentino
Excerpt: I can barely put 2 pieces of code together but I’ll bet I could have made a website which enrolled at least one person at this point. Well I could have hired someone anyway. Oregon couldn’t even do that.

Obamacare brings big fees for drugs: ‘Where’s the affordable with this one?’ By Kelli Kennedy
Excerpt: Under the plan, her Celebrex would have cost $648 a month until she met her $1,500 prescription deductible, followed by an $85 monthly co-pay. Mason is one of the many Americans with serious illnesses — including cancer, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis — who are indeed finding relatively low monthly premiums under President Obama’s law. But some have been shocked at how much their prescriptions are costing as insurers are sorting drug prices into a complex tier system and in some cases charging co-insurance rates as high as 50 percent. That can leave patients on the hook for thousands.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2014/03/23/Obamacare-Turns-4-Has-Covered-Just-1-4-of-Uninsured-Americans
Excerpt: Four years of Obamacare have produced health insurance for just 1.4% of uninsured Americans. According to CNBC, of the 5 million people the Obama administration claimshave enrolled in Obamacare, just 715,000 are previously uninsured Americans who have chosen and paid for new insurance. As the Washington Post notes, there are 48.6 million uninsured Americans. That means that after four years of being the law of the land, Obamacare--whose purported purpose was to cover the uninsured--has provided coverage for just 1.4% of uninsured Americans.

Excerpt: Where did Monirul Islam (pictured here) get the idea that he could treat someone this way? Perhaps from the Qur’an and Sunnah: Muhammad owned slaves, and the Qur’an takes the existence of slavery for granted, even as it enjoins the freeing of slaves under certain circumstances, such as the breaking of an oath: “Allah will not call you to account for what is futile in your oaths, but He will call you to account for your deliberate oaths: for expiation, feed ten indigent persons, on a scale of the average for the food of your families; or clothe them; or give a slave his freedom” (5:89).

Paris Jewish teacher has nose broken, swastika drawn on chest. Victim, who was wearing a kippah, says assailants attacked him outside kosher restaurant, also cursed him in Arabic.
Excerpt: He told police that the three men who attacked him appeared to be of North African descent and were in their twenties. They cornered him as he was exiting a kosher restaurant on Manin Street in Paris’ 19th arrondissement, near the Gare du Nord train station. They shouted “Death to the Jews” and called him “Dirty Jew” in French and also shouted insults in Arabic which Richard did not understand, the BNVCA report said.

Minneapolis Lesbian Police Chief Dons Hijab for “Hijab Day.” By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: There’s nothing like a lesbian feminist authority figure who boasts of being the first female police chief in Minneapolis donning a symbol of male ownership in a patriarchal tribal society to express the deep schizophrenia of the left in its enthusiastic enabling of Islamists. But I’m sure now that Janee donned the hijab, she thinks everything is going to be okay. Spoiler alert; it’s not. Two women accused of having a lesbian relationship have been sentenced to death by a court in the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland in northern Somalia. (This is another of those "you can't make this stuff up" events. Who would believe that the very open lesbian chief of police of a major city could be talked into wearing a hijab for a day? Totally mindblowing. I can't wait to see what comes out of Minneapolis next. --Del. If Iranian immigrants who are employees declare a "hang gays" day in honor of the custom of their home culture, will she wear a noose? All cultures [except ours], including those that murder gays, are "equally valid" to the progressive left. ~Bob.)

Oliver Stone: Jewish control of the media is preventing free Holocaust debate
Excerpt: Outspoken Hollywood director says new film aims to put Adolf Hitler, who he has called an 'easy scapegoat' in the past, in his due historical context. Jewish control of the media is preventing an open discussion of the Holocaust, prominent Hollywood director Oliver Stone told the Sunday Times, adding that the U.S. Jewish lobby was controlling Washington's foreign policy for years. (Wow, at long last Oliver Stone has really jumped the rails and fallen into the Twilight Zone. We need to understand Hitler and Stalin better? Far out, Dude!!! If there were a Jewish control of the media, we would all be brainwashed about the aggressiveness of the Arabs, instead of always hearing about the plight of the Palestinians. And we need free Holocaust debate? Really, when we have the Nazi records, kept so carefully about the extermination of peoples, Jews, Gypsies, and those considered to be mental defectives? When we have the records of the Nuremburg war crimes trials that went into detail on what they did? Stone is really, truly gone mentally. It's sad, but I think his career is about to take a bit of a dive. --Del. I beg to differ, Del. Stone was never on the rails. Has always been a far left, anti-American [is that redundant?] jerk who made money from really bad history. ~Bob)

Exclusive - Study: Obama Most Well-Traveled, Expensive President In History Through Five Years. By Matthew Boyle
Excerpt: President Barack Obama has spent more time traveling abroad than other U.S. president in history at this point in their presidencies, according to a forthcoming study from the National Taxpayer Union Foundation (NTUF) provided exclusively to Breitbart News ahead of its public release. (Racist of them to report rather than ignore facts. ~Bob)

The Marine Corps Is Doing Everything Right When It Comes To Women In Combat. By Paul Szoldra
Excerpt: A test-based approach makes sense as it could provide hard, empirical data that women can cut it in fields like infantry and special operations; or conversely, if tests determine that women can't cut it, the Marine Corps will have the evidence it needs to demand a policy change. ... " I know that I can form a unit comprised of 100% men and it has the potential to be combat effective. So if women really are fit for combat, shouldn’t I be able to make a unit composed of 100% women and have the potential for combat effectiveness? If I’m trying to find a golden ratio of women in a unit before it’s no longer combat effective, aren’t I admitting from the start that having women in a unit will degrade its combat effectiveness? If the goal of the military is still to fight and win wars, isn’t pushing women into combat units counterproductive to this goal?" (Maybe not everything right. Maybe just trying not to string the regiments out on an exposed road to the Chinese despite the orders of the god-like power above them. ~Bob. I have to say this is written in a most reasonable way, basically let the women try out for various roles in combat units and wait to see how it works out. If it does, recognize it and open the job to women. If it doesn't work out, recognize it and bar women from taking that job. The question is, will the PC-driven bureaucrats really watch over the trials, and slant the results to make it seem the women have done OK when in fact they didn't quite. There are a variety of ways to slant the tests and the results, and that is what concerns me. We have to hope and pray that no PC practitioners get to weigh the scales. Bottom line is that there are very significant contrasts between male and female bodies, which leave women at a serious disadvantage when it comes to critical physical capacities; and those contrasts pretty much guarantee that women working with me in real combat will not be able to perform some of the actions that are a normal part of combat. We've had more than enough women who have been in or near combat testify about this, but the PC maniacs just keep on pushing. Hopefully the Corps will not fall into the truly disastrous mistake of putting women among the grunts. --Del)

Worth Reading: Wisconsin Success Story From The Patriot Post
Damn Republicans--another tax cut for the poor coupled with aid to technical education for the working class. (The Patriot Post is free and worth subscribing to.) ~Bob: Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker signed into law today a $541 million tax cut returning $406 million to state technical colleges to reduce their property taxes. Another $98 million will go to low-income taxpayers, reducing the state's lowest bracket from 4.4% to 4%. Walker first proposed the rate cuts in January, and the last procedural hurdle for passage was cleared this past week when the state Assembly passed the bill 61-35. That was fast. The bill's passage barely rated 10 lines in The New York Times, which chose to bury the story deep inside the paper's A-section. Leftmedia outlets have done all they can to keep the Wisconsin success story out of the headlines as well. Walker, who survived a truly vicious recall effort after taking on the state's unions a couple years ago, has been behind a drive that has improved the state's economy, brought accountability to the school system, and pushed the unemployment rate down to 6.1%, its lowest since 2008. A recent poll reports that 95% of business owners in the state are optimistic about the future of the economy in Wisconsin. The story of Wisconsin's recovery is one that Republicans around the country need to follow. Media outlets that care about reporting the facts should take heed as well. Walker's success has come despite the attempts of leftists to block his efforts at every turn with increasingly despicable methods. From shirking their legislative duties to preventing a vote on Walker's reforms to bussing in union thugs during the recall effort so as to shut down the capitol, Democrats have been merciless in their attempts to prevent the pro-business, small-government model from succeeding. They are particularly set on blocking it in the state that birthed the "progressive" movement a century ago. Meanwhile, Walker's Democrat opponent, Mary Burke, is using her own underhanded tactics in an attempt to unseat the governor. She released an ad claiming that the state's unemployment rate is rising, and when she was called out on the blatant falsehood, she offered no regrets, saying in effect that the ends justify the lies. She will have a tough time convincing voters that Wisconsin is in need of new leadership, so expect the lies and mischaracterizations to keep on coming. That's the one tool that leftists know how to wield.

Egypt Sentences 529 To Death Over Police Attack
Excerpt: An Egyptian court sentenced to death on Monday 529 people accused of an attack on a police station that left one policeman dead, in a mass trial that lasted only two sessions and raised an outcry from rights activists.
The verdicts against the men, said to be supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, are subject to appeal and would likely be overturned, rights lawyers said.

Nate Silver: GOP Has 60 Percent Chance to Take Senate in 2014

Interesting: Philly DA Blows the Whistle on Pennsylvania’s State AG: Why did the AG drop a case that exposed Democratic corruption? By John Fund
Good for Williams, declining to play the race card in a corruption case! ~Bob. Excerpt: Williams is upset that last year one of Kane’s first acts in office was to decline to prosecute four Philadelphia state legislators and other government officials. In a sting operation, all had been caught accepting cash or Tiffany jewelry in exchange for votes or favors. Kane, who is white, has defended herself, saying that the investigation was badly managed and tainted by racism. She claims the criticism comes from what she calls the “Good Ol’ Boys Club.” Williams, who is African American, has shot back: “I have seen racism. I know what it looks like. This isn’t it.”

Worth Reading: Three Cheers for Fracking. By Gary D. Libecap
Excerpt: Americans should celebrate fracking. By unleashing production of unconventional hydrocarbons, fracking has catapulted the U.S. from being a has-been producer of oil to the world’s largest total supplier in 2013 when we include natural gas liquids, biofuels, and crude oil. The U.S. produced around an average of 12.1 million barrels a day of these liquids, 300,000 barrels a day more than Saudi Arabia and 1.6 million more than Russia, the previous leaders. (Well, fracking reduces energy costs for the poor and working classes by producing more, less-expensive energy. [See next article.] It reduces carbon emissions by substituting natural gas for oil. It reduces our trade deficit and money going to support terrorism by reducing energy imports. OF COURSE the left hates it and fights it every inch of the way--can't have anything that does this much good for America. ~Bob

Worth Reading: The Poverty of Renewables. By Bjørn Lomborg
Excerpt: According to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, “Climate change harms the poor first and worst.” This is true, because the poor are the most vulnerable and have the least resources with which to adapt. But we often forget that current policies to address global warming make energy much more costly, and that this harms the world’s poor much more. Solar and wind power was subsidized by $60 billion in 2012. This means that the world spent $60 billion more on energy than was needed. And, because the total climate benefit was a paltry $1.4 billion, the subsidies essentially wasted $58.6 billion. Biofuels were subsidized by another $19 billion, with essentially no climate benefit. All of that money could have been used to improve health care, hire more teachers, build better roads, or lower taxes.

Good News Buried in Climate Change Report
Excerpt: The IPCC buried evidence in its latest report that indicated good news about global warming, according to a new study from climate scientist Nic Lewis and science writer Marcel Crok. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, or IPCC, released its Working Group I (WGI) report, Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis, in September 2013. The report proclaimed a 95 percent certainty that humans were responsible for most global warming since 1950. However, Lewis and Crok (who were expert reviewers of the report) say the report hid certain findings related to climate sensitivity.

Red state residents pay fewer taxes than blue state residents
Excerpt: The average American family pays nearly $7,000 in state and local taxes in a given year, but the actual amounts vary wildly. A Californian who lives on the western side of Lake Tahoe pays almost three times more in state taxes than their neighbor on the Nevada side of the lake. Someone living in Portland, Ore., pays more than twice as much as a neighbor living across the Columbia River in Vancouver, Wash. That’s according to a new study by WalletHub, a publication of Evolution Finance, which found residents in blue states pay much more than residents of red states.

Excerpt: Okay, you knew it was going to happen sooner or later. You knew it as soon as Obama gave away half of General Motors to the labor unions and didn't ask for a penny from them. You knew you'd be screwed with bailout losses, and you were...to the tune of $14 billion dollars. And you knew those liberal-coddled UAW workers (yeah the ones that tried to unionize the auto makers down south...and failed) would turn out products not fit for the American highway. First, we had the grand failure of the Chevy Volt, even after Obama used taxpayer money to pay for a third of it's $40,000 dollar price tag, and you knew when they caught those auto workers drinking quarts of beer and smoking pot on their lunch break that no good could come from this. So last week we learned that twelve Americans have died, burned to cinders by exploding ignition switches. And it wasn't isolated...now the new Obama chosen GM CEO has announced a massive recall going back three or four years...all of this buried until too may people just started exploding behind the wheel of a Chevy.

THIS Belongs on the Cover of Rolling Stone
Excerpt: Evil people should be forced to see this and know that they can’t win. Check it out: I’m usually not tremendously affected by the news. I’ve been around for a while and I’ve seen a lot of images come across my screen. But when I saw a photo today of a little 8 year old girl smiling bravely while standing on her new prosthetic leg, my eyes welled up when I realized it was Jane Richard, the little girl who had her leg blown off while attending the Boston Marathon about a year ago.

Obama Rewrites FOIA - Doesn't Tell America - Sets Sights on Internet Free Speech
Excerpt: Last week several important battles were fought in Obama's war on free speech. The Obama White House routinely bars news media from meetings with foreign leaders and other events, then releases its own photos of those events. But the remnants of what once was a free press in America are meekly fighting back. The Associated Press reported last week, "The presidents of the American Society of Newspaper Editors and the Associated Press Media Editors have urged their members to stop using White House handout photos and video, saying they amount to propaganda."

All charges dropped against registered sex offender

Excerpt: REGISTERED sex offender, Ali Jaffari, accused of attempted child-stealing, has had all charges against him dropped after a Magistrate told prosecutors he would have trouble finding Jaffari guilty. Magistrate Ron Saines said if he was hearing the matter, he would have reasonable doubt, citing ‘cultural differences’ as one factor, which would result in the charges being dismissed. Jaffari, 35, an Afghan refugee, was convicted in Geelong Magistrates’ Court on August 22, 2013, of indecently assaulting one boy and attempting to indecently assault another. (Well ,if your child was sexually assaulted, and you were a good liberal, you'd certainly want cultural sensitivity to be taken into account, right? ~Bob)
