Time for some St Pat's Political News

Happy St. Pats.

Had the PICC IV pulled after PT Rehab Monday morning, so no longer hooked to tubes again. Rehab was okay, but you lose ground much faster than you, gain, alas.

Word around Rehab was they just lost a new patient who came for a lung--went bad too fast. It reminds the rest of us how fortunate and blessed we are, even when the new lung has "issues" like mine. There is a small window when you are sick enough to qualify for one of the limited lungs that come available, but not too sick (or dead) to get it. I was failing fast at the end of 2013--Bonnie, usually optimistic, didn't expect me to make my birthday on April 15. Thanks to the VA-UW Hospital healthcare team, my Marine DIs, and your good wishes and prayers, I'm still in the fight. I suspect God needed more time with me--I'm a work in progress.

Republicans won a special election for Congress in Florida while I was in the hospital. Gloating from our side, spin from both sides, but that is now standard. I tend to agree that it didn't mean much. I think special elections rarely do. Turnout is always different, as are many factors. But I'll tell you who though it was a big deal--the main stream media, which was almost totally silent on the outcome, just as they were silent on a former high IRS official, Lois Learner, taking the fifth before Congress for the second time. They still have Obama's back--but it's getting harder. Ask yourself, if the Democrat had won, or a Republican official taken the fifth, would they not have mentioned it? Or, more likely, splashed it over the front page? ~Bob

U.S. forces seize tanker carrying oil from Libya rebel port
Excerpt: A U.S. SEAL commando team boarded the tanker Morning Glory from a Naval special warfare rigid inflatable boat as it sat in international waters off Cyprus on Sunday night.
The seizure was approved by U.S. President Barack Obama and requested by the Libyan and Cypriot governments, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said.

Excerpt: Three al Qaeda militants were reported killed yesterday while setting up a car as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED). According to tribal sources, the explosion occurred near the house of an al Qaeda commander in the city of Habban in Shabwa province.

Worth Reading: Following the Trail Nixon Blazed: Obama shows the same Orwellian disregard for the Constitution. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Answer that by comparing the behavior of Richard Nixon to that of an increasingly similar Barack Obama. Nixon tried to use the Internal Revenue Service to go after his political enemies — although his IRS chiefs at least refused his orders to focus on liberals. Nixon ignored settled law and picked and chose which statutes he would enforce — from denying funds for the Clean Water Act to ignoring congressional subpoenas. (The difference is, the media hated Nixon, so he was toast when they discovered the abuses. the media still tingles over Obama, so they have his back. Any problems are ignored, or criticism glossed over as based on race, because it must be, his policies being perfect. thus there is no chance he will be held accountable. Not holding someone accountable because of race is the worst kind of condescending racism. It doesn't matter if it's a white jury letting a KKK thug off because of race, or the media letting Obama and Holder slide because of race. ~Bob)

Excerpt: The new administration party line is that Putin is now weak and acting out of just that weakness by sending troops into Ukrainian territory — a sort of chihuahua who took on a pit bull because he knew he was weak. But even weak states do not typically invade others because they accept that they are weak (and thereby expect to lose?), but usually because, even if weak, they at least still expect to be strong enough to win.

Islamist rebels in Syria claim kidnapping of 94 civilians
Excerpt: The video, obtained by Qatari-owned television station Al Jazeera, said the rebels were ready to swap the civilians for 2,000 prisoners who have been detained for more than a year.

Excerpt: Britain is so far gone that it will jail Royal Barnes and Rebekah Dawson (note yet again that the mainstream media refuses to give the Muslim names of converts to Islam when they do something evil in Islam’s name), but it appeases and accommodates organizations that it has determined are “moderate,” but which are just as dedicated to bringing to Sharia to Britain, albeit by non-violent means. And so much of Sharia has already come to Britain: already simply speaking the truth about Islam and jihad gets one banned from the country by its cowardly, short-sighted authorities, who are busy throwing away its security, heritage and future with both hands.

Excerpt: Before they got to a discussion about how Obama has failed to legalize 30 million illegal invaders, the hosts found the economy, and particularly the high costs of Obamacare were what was on the forefront of the audience's minds. So one of the Hispanic hosts read Obama a letter from someone in the audience. The letter writer wrote that he makes only $36,000 dollars a year and has to support a family on that salary, and how was he expected to pay out thousands of dollars in Obamacare premiums and still feed and shelter his family. Obama pondered the question for a moment, stroked his chin, and offered this. "Well, you'll just have to find ways to cut your living expenses. Here are a few of those cuts Obama recommended (in priority order):

Royce introduces Vietnam sanctions bill. By Erik Wasson
Excerpt: The Obama administration is pursuing a free trade agreement with Vietnam, but critics of the country’s authoritarian regime believe sanctions are in order. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.), a vocal champion of human rights, on Friday introduced a bill that would impose targeted financial and visa sanctions on Vietnamese individuals involved in abuses. “With human rights abuses on the rise, it is clear the regime is doubling down on repression. Unfortunately, the Obama Administration has been silent on these gross human rights abuses. This legislation tells the freedom-seeking people of Vietnam that Congress stands with them,” Royce said in a statement. (It's about time. --Del)

Politics, the Pentagon, and Piecing Together the Military. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: The commandant's recent White Letter (originally published in English) outlining the Marine Corps way ahead as to women serving in ground combat units, including the infantry, omits that which the wise, the average minded, and even the brute expect to see validating such a contentious issue: metrics and data.

ON FIRE: Former Obama Fan Goes On Rant, Burns Her Obama Shirt
Excerpt: This young lady has come to the light. However, she leaves out some of the most egregious of his crimes, such as ObamaCare, Benghazi and the IRS Scandal …but still not bad for a former Obama Zombie. (Probably thought she was entitled to more than he could give. Once you start buying votes with other folks money, the hunger and demand never stop growing. ~Bob)

Worth Reading: Liberals and Their Uppity Enemies. By Victor Davis Hanson http://pjmedia.com/victordavishanson/liberals-and-their-uppity-enemies/?singlepage=true
Excerpt: Why do liberals hate Sarah Palin? ... I think the animus — as opposed to just disagreement with her views — derives in part from the fact that she is vivacious and attractive in a fresh Sally Field sort of way, unlike the cheek-boned refinement of an Audrey Hepburn or Jackie Onassis. Or is it because her diction, syntax, and grammar (especially the use of the passive voice) resonate slightly lower middle-class America? She is what white grandees with real white privilege castigate as a beneficiary of white privilege that she never really had.

Russia vows to switch to other currencies over US sanctions threat
Excerpt: Russia can dodge any proposed US sanctions by switching to other currencies and creating its own payment system, Putin’s economic advisor Sergei Glazyev saidTuesday. A senior Kremlin official has denounced Glazyev’s remark on US-Russia economic ties, calling them "a personal opinion" inconsistent with the Kremlin stance. (The Russians are doubling down on their bet about Crimea, they are telling Obama "go ahead and try to hurt us". By switching to other currencies they are bringing up the possibility of the US dollar no longer being the international currency, which would have some negative consequences for us. The only thing that could have any chance of making any difference would be for all of Europe and anyone else we could recruit to come down with every single way of penalizing the Russians possible. With Europe so dependent on Russian gas and oil, I am not sure they have any chance of really coming down hard. Anything less than a total frontal attack by sanctions from everyone will not sway Putin one bit. Obama would have to really come out and lead from the front on this, and I very seriously doubt he is prepared or capable of doing so. So I think Crimea is gone, the way Tibet was gone once the Chinese Army invaded. There will be screaming about it for a while, and then it'll all die down, and both Ukraine and Georgia will be living in fear of the Russian Army again. Their only other shot is to get very serious about building up their own military with help from the US and others, so that they can actually prepare to fight the Russians the next time they try something like this. Whether they will do that is another unknown. Putin has played this just fine. He will be a hero in Russia over this, and probably get more support for anything else he feels like doing to keep the international pot at a slow boil. He will not stop until something very serious comes along to make him stop. He's like Hitler after the Munich conference. --Del)

True--but they care about power, not the poor: Silence of the Left. By John C. Goodman
Excerpt: The topic du jour on the left these days is inequality. But why does the left care about inequality? Do they really want to lift those at the bottom of the income ladder? Or are they just looking for one more reason to increase the power of government? If you care about those at the bottom then you are wasting your time and everyone else's time unless you focus on one and only one phenomenon: the inequality of educational opportunity. Poor kids are almost always enrolled in bad schools. Rich kids are almost always in good schools.

Excerpt: The mother acknowledged hitting her daughter with a flat hand, showering her in cold water, and covering her mouth with tape when she was crying. She also forced her to eat hot chili powder and deprived her of sleep. On several occasions, the mother punished the daughter with a “time-out,” and the girl’s feet were tied with her mother’s hijab. She forced her to sleep on the floor. Held her head under running cold water. Dipped her in to a bucket of water – head first. ... According to the mother, the reason for the abuse was that the daughter needed to learn how to respect adults. Or else she could end up like other Norwegian girls, who are almost wishing to be raped.

Obama threatens to veto bill that would require administration to enforce laws
Excerpt: President Barack Obama would veto a GOP-drafted bill that would allow legislators to take agency officials to court if they don’t enforce laws, according to a White House statement.

The GOP is pushing the bill through the House because Obama has repeatedly declined to enforce laws he doesn’t like, say GOP legislators. (It takes a bill? --JB)
