police

A protest group sued the police dept over "routine use of excessive force" and got  judge to come down with a decree limiting what tools the police can use at protests.  Here it is...

The police are to stop using batons, shields, gas, chokeholds, rubber bullets, or sound cannons against peaceful protesters for the next two weeks.

The judge says the police still have plenty of tools to use should there actually ever be any need.  OK, I know I'm not up on modern policing and the tools available, but that list above seems pretty complete to me.  What are the officers left to use, stern language?  When the rocks and ice bottles are coming at them, learn to duck fast?  I wonder what the judge has done to ensure none of the "peaceful protesters" is carrying a shield, a rock, a hammer, a knife, etc.

This may get interesting, if the real nutcases decide this is their opportunity to stage a riot and overpower the cops by mass of numbers, it will get very messy and some officers will get injured, perhaps some badly.  Then what happens?  The judge visits them in the hospital and brings flowers?

Stay tuned on this one.
