Conservative Cartoons: A blog reader and friend frequently e-mails me a collection of conservative cartoons. Some I agree with, some not. If you would like to be forwarded them, let me know. ~Bob

Worth Reading: The Stagnant Mediterranean: Socialism and Islamism don’t foster a climate of economic growth and security. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: With the rise of the Ottoman Empire, the old city-state powerhouses of Italy and Greece faded from history, as the Mediterranean became more a museum than a catalyst of global change. In contrast, the Reformation and the Enlightenment energized Northern European culture, safely distant from the front line of the exhausting wars with Islam.

Christie Chooses State Attorney General Chiesa to Fill Lautenberg Seat
Excerpt: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie chooses state Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa to serve as an interim replacement for Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who died Monday, until a special election set for Oct. 16.

Excerpt: Former White House budget office controller Danny Werfel, the man President Obama has tapped to lead the scandal-ridden Internal Revenue Service, met with embattled then-IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman just two days before the agency decided to resume its improper targeting of conservative groups.

IRS can’t find $4M in conference receipts
Excerpt: The Internal Revenue Service can’t find the receipts from a $4 million agency conference in 2010 — meaning, it can’t provide the same documentation for business-related travel it requires Americans to include on tax filings. (“can’t find”? Or destroyed? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: The ability of people like Lautenberg and Representative John Dingell, who will break the record for the longest-serving member of Congress on Friday, to hang on into their old age isn’t so much testimony to the nation’s desire to make use of the wisdom of our elders as it is to the way the system is still rigged to help incumbents. It’s also worth asking whether it is long past time for us to realize that reliance on the New Deal paradigm and those who still buy into it is one of contemporary Washington’s biggest problems.

Excerpt: The U.S. Senate is expected to vote this morning on a measure that will effectively end debate on the misnamed “farm” bill, cutting off opportunities to fix the deeply flawed legislation. At a cost of a nearly $1 trillion -- 80 percent of which goes to the food-stamp program -- American taxpayers deserve a robust debate. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) won’t let that happen.

NSA Collecting Phone Records of Millions of Americans Daily
Excerpt: The document shows for the first time that under the Obama administration the communication records of millions of US citizens are being collected indiscriminately and in bulk – regardless of whether they are suspected of any wrongdoing.(Just wait until Susan Rice gets started-frightening. –JB. Let's see, my cell phone carrier is...uh...oh, yeah. Verizon. – LLW. Cancel Verizon phones and see how stock does….Leave it to a foreign press agency to break this story….Why stop at just Verizon? –Barb. Rice is only interested in YouTube videos. Besides, I have Verizon, talk politics all the time without prob…excuse me, someone is banging on my door. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) says that the National Security Agency program tracking Verizon telephone records helped thwart a "significant domestic terrorist attack" in the United States "within the last few years." Rogers declined to share more information on the nature of the attack, saying the committee was working to declassify information on the plot so that more information may be shared publicly.

In 2006, Obama blasted NSA spying: ‘No president is above the law
Excerpt: In 2006, then-Sen. Barack Obama criticized the nomination of U.S. Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden as director of the Central Intelligence Agency, citing the controversial National Security Agency program for wiretapping Americans and collecting their phone records.

$4 million conference taught IRS employees how to be ‘direct,’ ‘honest,’ ‘open,’ ‘transparent’
Excerpt: In 2010, the Internal Revenue Service dropped $4 million on a swanky conference in Anaheim, California where IRS employees learned, among other things, how to be “direct and honest, open and transparent” when speaking with taxpayers.
The IRS employees learned from a “pioneer in the field of eliminating defensiveness” how to stop communicating using the “rules of war.”

Excerpt: A Washington IRS attorney named Carter Hull closely oversaw the targeting of conservative nonprofit groups and suggested questions that IRS employees could ask of conservative and Tea Party groups applying for tax-exempt nonprofit status, according to interviews that two IRS employees gave with congressional investigators.

School won’t let student wear Marine Corps uniform at graduation
http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/06/school-wont-let-student-wear-marine-corps-uniform-at-graduation/
Excerpt: A New Hampshire high school graduate and recent boot camp graduate has been barred from wearing his Marine Corps uniform in lieu of the traditional cap and gown. Brandon Garabrant recently completed Parris Island, S.C. boot camp and intends to fly back up to his home in Conval to attend his high school graduation, reports WMUR. (You can see how it would shame all the other students. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: According to a report [pdf] issued Friday by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), IRS officials spent more than $49 million on more than 200 conferences for employees between 2010 and 2012. But last year, when Republican Sen. Tom Coburn asked then-Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner how much IRS had spent on conferences during that exact period, Treasury replied that the federal tax collector had spent only $500,000 on just five conferences.

Denmark's Fat Tax Harms Economy
Excerpt: Denmark's tax on saturated fat was hailed as a world-leading public health policy when it was introduced in October 2011, but it was abandoned 15 months later when the unintended consequences became clear, says Christopher Snowdon, director of lifestyle economics at the Institute of Economic Affairs. The economic effects of the fat tax were almost invariably negative.

Solar Radiation Management: The Future of Environmentalism
Excerpt: Measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have long dominated public discourse about responses to man-made climate change. However, major institutional and political hurdles dim future prospects for controlling emissions. While adaptation to climate change can accomplish much, flawed institutions are likely to limit its efficacy; but there could be a solution: solar radiation management (SRM), say Lee Lane, of the Hudson Institute, and J. Eric Bickel, of the University of Texas at Austin. SRM would seek to enhance and manage physical processes that currently reflect sunlight back into space. For example, most researchers have envisioned implementing this concept by adding to the layer of sulfuric acid that is already present in the lower stratosphere. All else remaining equal, global mean temperatures would fall even though GHG levels would not; the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change estimates that physical processes such as these already offset about 40 percent of global warming. (I’m not sure we want global temps to fall. Warming has some winners in increased crops. Cooling has lots of deaths from starvation. ~Bob.)

Earth-cooling schemes need global sign-off, researchers say

Excerpt: Controversial geoengineering projects that may be used to cool the planet must be approved by world governments to reduce the danger of catastrophic accidents, British scientists said. …The dangers arose in projects that cooled the planet unevenly. In some cases these caused devastating droughts across Africa; in others they increased rainfall in the region but left huge areas of Brazil parched. (Yes, they are real. Article defines ChemTrails … “Geoengineering comes in many flavours, but among the more plausible are ‘solar radiation management’ (SRM) schemes that would spray huge amounts of sun-reflecting particles high into the atmosphere to simulate the cooling effects of volcanic eruptions.” Wonder if those “catastrophic accidents” could include multiple F5 tornadoes in the US heartland, just weeks after articles noted “not many tornadoes this Spring”? They admit it is being done; just not by whom on whom or when. Because they think we need it. They know not what they do and they don’t give a sh___. So, do we have to live in a mud hut to be classified as a “vulnerable person” to this environmental poisoning and climate manipulation? –Barb.)

Rate Shock: In California, Obamacare To Increase Individual Health Insurance Premiums By 64-146%
Excerpt: Last week, the state of California claimed that its version of Obamacare’s health insurance exchange would actually reduce premiums. “These rates are way below the worst-case gloom-and-doom scenarios we have heard,” boasted Peter Lee, executive director of the California exchange. But the data that Lee released tells a different story: Obamacare, in fact, will increase individual-market premiums in California by as much as 146 percent.

When the levee breaks. By Bob Owens
Excerpt: We have seen a perfect storm of abuses at the hand of the Obama Administration, and the government itself has been exposed as rotten to the core. That changes the scenario immensely.

Daniel Werfel’s IRS discipline wins praise on Hill
Excerpt: Werfel didn’t specify which staff members he disciplined but congressional sources tell POLITICO one official is Fred Schindler, the director of implementation oversight at the IRS Affordable Care Act office. The other is Donald Toda, a California-based employee. The staffers received $1,100 in free food and other items at the conference, the sources said. … Suspended employees are often paid during suspension while supervisors decide how to proceed. ($1,100 in free food? Just how much did these two guys eat? What, did they order the surf and turf and say, "man, this is so good, let's get a dozen more for the road?" … You're going to take this paid vacation indefinitely, buster!. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
http://www.nationalreview.com/newsletters. Aww, it’s only because the IRS got audited that we, the taxpayers, learn of this….Barb.)

Excerpt: Recent press reports focused on the 157 visits to the White House by former IRS Commissioner Douglas H. Shulman, but there has been little scrutiny of the 165 White House visits by the IRS ‘Obamacare’ official Sarah Hall Ingram.

U.S. renews Iran sanctions waivers for China, India, others
why sanctions don’t work. ~Bob. Excerpt: The U.S. State Department on Wednesday renewed six-month waivers on Iran sanctions for China, India and seven other economies in exchange for their agreeing to reduce purchases of oil from Iran.

French jobless rate climbs to highest level in 15 years
Excerpt: French unemployment rose to 10.8% in the first quarter of the year - its highest level since 1998, official estimates have shown. The jobless rate grew from 10.5% in the last quarter of 2012, the official Insee statistics agency said. (Vote for Socialists, get the results of socialism. ~Bob.)

Liberals Find Out Eric Holder is Who We Said He Was. By John Ransom
Excerpt: Now that the election is past us, perhaps liberals and conservatives can agree on a bipartisan measure of reform that’s sorely needed in Washington: Obama needs to remove Eric Holder from his spot as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.

The Leftist Hijacking of Black Identity. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The process has gone so far that it is hard to remember that at one point it stood for big ideas. Today the only big liberal idea is big government and that idea is armored with a system of racial subsidies and privileges that uses black people as human shields against government critics. But the racial privileges and subsidies aren’t the point; they just provide the moral legitimacy for the trillion dollar deficits that end up in the bedroom communities around Washington D.C. Racism has become the mask that liberalism wears.

DHS flags tweets about 'militia,' but not 'jihad'
Excerpt: The Obama Administration continues to push its fiction that "right-wing extremists" pose a greater threat than Islamic jihadists.

Excerpt: The majority of foreign fighters killed in Syria between July 2012 and May of this year were found to be fighting on behalf of a terrorist group that's a front for Al Qaeda in Iraq, according to a new independent report by a security consulting firm that specializes in counterterrorism. (These are the people John McCain wants us to help? ~Bob.)

Deal gives Saudi Arabia ‘unrestricted’ access to U.S. airspace
Excerpt: Saudi Arabia’s struggles with terrorism are well known, but that hasn’t stopped the United States from signing an “Open Skies” agreement with the nation.

Muslim Brotherhood Behind Benghazi Attack With Link To Obama
Excerpt: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, UN Ambassador Susan Rice, and an army of Obama surrogates conducted a media blitz blaming this obscure video no one had seen for the entire Middle East exploding on 9/11, including a “protest turned violent” at the Libyan consulate that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans…. We later learned that the Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt, Mohammed Morsi, was behind the attack. We now know it was not initially an attack, but an attempted kidnapping of Ambassador Stevens to use him as a pawn to get their beloved Blind Sheik back. What is most shocking, however, is that a source within the White House states that it was arranged as an October surprise by Barack Obama. (So much for “unnamed WH sources.” –Barb)

Was Benghazi A Set Up To Release The Blind Sheik?
Excerpt: But, if Obama and his administration could use Stevens successfully as a political pawn, two things would result: 1) The release of Omar Abdel-Rahman (the blind sheik), and 2) Obama would look the hero. ….Had Stevens simply been kidnapped and held, Obama could have used the time to allow things to build up and then work to have Stevens released exchange for the blind sheik just prior to the November 6 election. It would have been quite the ride with the world focused on that, culminating in victory for Obama.

Mohamed Morsi to visit US as White House pledges 'new partnership'
Excerpt: President Barack Obama has invited Egypt's newly elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi to the US, it emerged on Sunday as Washington pledged a "new partnership" with the Arab nation. The official visit will take place to coincide with the general assembly of the United Nations, Egyptian aide Yasser Ali said following a meeting between Morsi and US deputy secretary of state William Burns….Last year, Obama's administration shifted policy to open formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood, the group behind Morsi's win. (Alert the Marine Umbrella Squad. ~Bob.)

In Scandal’s Wake, Obama’s Hardball Tactics Could Backfire
Excerpt: Contrary to the administration spin, the polling shows that a majority of Americans want congressional Republicans to investigate the trifecta of controversies. Even larger majorities said the administration’s handling of Benghazi, the IRS scandal and subpoena of journalist phone records “raises doubts about the overall honesty and integrity” of the administration. …. Bloomberg found that a 47 percent plurality of voters believe Obama isn’t telling the truth when he said he was unaware that the IRS was scrutinizing conservative groups.

Al Qaeda weapons expert says U.S. ambassador to Libya killed by lethal injection
Excerpt: An al Qaeda terrorist stated in a recent online posting that U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens was killed by lethal injection after plans to kidnap him during the Sept. 11, 2012 terror attack in Benghazi went bad. The veracity of the claim made by Abdallah Dhu-al-Bajadin, who was identified by U.S. officials as a known weapons experts for al Qaeda, could not be determined. However, U.S. officials have not dismissed the terrorist’s assertion. (Note “Kidnap.” Still believe stand down orders given to play into kidnap plan; Stevens to be traded for Blind Sheik’s release which WH and Holder had been on record working toward; even had Morsi in WH demanding same; DOS, SS, all granted visas and waved restrictions. “Demonstration” in Cairo was demanding BS’s release. Would’ve tied into getting Stevens released in an exchange….What could Americans say…especially in throes of an election? The Seals and AQ didn’t play along. Hence, the fictitious talking points, the “Video” assertions—the poor stooge is still in jail with 1st amendment rights violated by regime—and HC and O conducting “business” as usual along with Rice. –Barb)

Steyn: Dissolve IRS, require judicial approval for new tax collecting agency’s actions [VIDEO]
http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/04/steyn-dissolve-the-irs-require-judicial-approval-for-new-tax-collecting-agencys-actions/#ixzz2VPpuuESJ
Excerpt: They should disband this agency and they should replace it with the ‘American Revenue Agency,’” Steyn continued. “And they should remove the powers of Lois Lerner or any low-level agent simply to act as prosecutor, judge, jury and executioner, and require them when they decide they’d like to take a lien on your house or they’d like to freeze your savings they are required to go to a judge — not a special judge, a regular all-American judge — who will decide whether or not. They should at least be required to do what Eric Holder has to do when he wants to read James Rosen’s emails.

Chris Christie brand is kaput: No 2016 presidential run
http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/campaign/303697-chris-christie-brand-is-kaput-no-2016-presidential-run#ixzz2VPncfo7R
Excerpt: When the bases were loaded, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) turned out to be just another politician. When his moment of truth came, Christie, who claimed taxpayers could not afford to do more to help children in schools, sent taxpayer a bill for an absurd special election shortly before the next general election in a de facto Christie move for taxpayers to subsidize his reelection campaign. Was there a secret deal between Christie and President Obama in which Christie helped Obama get reelected, Obama helps Christie get reelected and Christie helps Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) maintain Democratic control of the Senate? (Sorry, may have had bariatric surgery but looks/acting like a plump gigolo for you-know-who. –Barb)

Dems seek to lift prohibition on Gitmo detainees to US
http://thehill.com/blogs/defcon-hill/policy-and-strategy/303807-dems-seek-to-lift-prohibition-on-gitmo-detainees-to-us#ixzz2VPl3GinS
Excerpt: House Democrats on the Armed Services Committee attempted Wednesday to lift the restriction on transferring detainees from Guantánamo Bay to the United States, but they were rebuffed by the committee’s Republican majority. The committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.), introduced an amendment to strike the provision in the Defense authorization bill that restricted the transfer to U.S. soil, a key step to President Obama’s new push to shutter the facility. Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.) also proposed a measure to strip $61 million from the bill that was included in the authorization bill for the construction of new barracks. (Why would they want all these dangerous people on US soil? Why insist the borders be wide open? Why release thousands of illegals with criminal violations? The writing is on the wall. LibyaEgyptSyriaIraq, Afghanistan, here. Goes hand-in-hand with the persecution and targeting of Christians, Jews demonstrated by regime. –Barb.)

House votes to delay bulk ammunition purchase by DHS
http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/303803-house-votes-to-delay-bulk-ammo-purchase-by-dhs#ixzz2VPjtYtKE
Excerpt: The House late Wednesday voted to stop the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from entering into new contracts to buy millions of rounds of ammunition until DHS reports to Congress on the need for the ammo, and its cost. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) proposed an amendment to the DHS spending bill for 2014 that would require the report to Congress before it can pursue plans to buy 1.1 billion rounds of ammunition. Meadows said the speed bump is a necessary reaction to news of the huge purchase, which alarmed many Americans and prompted conservative groups to suspect that the government was stocking up on the rounds to fight citizens. (Given last few weeks, the surveillance disclosed, recent appointments of regime CYA bots and wagon circling, is there much doubt? It’s payback time. –Barb.)

Judge intervenes in transplant case
http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/legal-challenges/303797-judge-intervenes-in-transplant-case#ixzz2VPj9seWs
Excerpt: A federal judge said Wednesday that a 10-year-old Pennsylvania girl in need of a lung transplant must be added to the list of adults who need organs. (Sounds like HHS Sec needs a heart transplant; no maybe multi-organ, include brain. Sounds like 2 out of 3 from Wizard of Oz…--Barb)

"Gang of Eight" reaches tentative immigration deal

Holder, Rice, Ingram and Obama’s contempt for America
Excerpt: The White House announced today that Designated Benghazi Liar Susan Rice will replace Tom Donilon as President Barack Obama’s National Security Adviser. Sarah Hall Ingram is heading up implementation of the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare for the IRS, despite the fact that she has come under scrutiny recently because she oversaw the division of the IRS which targeted conservative organizations seeking nonprofit status. Despite the fact? No, because they both carried out their desired duties designed brilliantly to ensure Obama’s re-election, both have been promoted.

The Intolerable Acts: Team Obama’s Offenses Against The American People
Excerpt: Today we Americans find ourselves facing a new set of Intolerable Acts being perpetrated against us by President Obama and his cronies. Just like the King President Obama and his minions are disrespecting, abusing, intimidating, and even committing crimes against We The People. And so let us now detail many of the intolerable things that have been perpetrated against us by our own government, one agency or Department at a time. (Read it and weep. Change, indeed, folks. Payback time. –Barb)

Excerpt: The artist whose inspirational painting was removed from an Air Force dining hall because it violated military standards is accusing the Pentagon of censoring Christian art. “On its face, this seems like nothing short of a clear anti-Christian agenda,” said Grant DiCianni, president of Tapestry Productions. His father, Ron, painted the artwork….“The painting, titled “Blessed are the Peacemakers,” had been installed in a dining hall at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. (It’s payback time. –Barb)

Now FBI Wants Back Door To All Software
Excerpt: The FBI is unhappy that there are communications technologies that it cannot intercept, and wants a new requirement that software makers and communications companies create a back door so they can listen in when they want. But a team of technology experts warns that would to nothing more than hand over to the nation’s enemies abilities they are not capable of developing for themselves. According to a recent report in the Washington Post, the issue is being raised by the FBI because “there is currently no way to wiretap some of these communications methods easily, and companies effectively…”

Bruce Henkelman of Huntingtown says his son, a sixth grader at Northern Middle School in Owings, was talking with friends about the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre when the bus driver hauled him back to school to be questioned by the principal, Darrel Prioleau.

Excerpt: When the FBI finally fires up its criminal investigation of the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups, there is one person the special agent in charge better be sure to interview — former White House Counsel Robert Bauer. The FBI may discover the whole IRS mess leads through the land of campaign finance “reform” and an obsession with speech regulation, an obsession shared by Bauer. Any criminal investigation identifies for further scrutiny those with motive, opportunity, and means, and Bauer deserves no quarter from FBI investigators on those three counts.

Excerpt: Just when you think the farce that goes by the name of the Obama White House couldn’t descend any lower, along comes this: In a move sure to provoke congressional Republicans, President Obama is nominating embattled U.N. Ambassador Susan E. Rice Wednesday to serve as his national security adviser. The White House also confirmed that Mr. Obama is nominating former aide Samantha Power, who once referred to Hillary Rodham Clinton as a “monster” in the 2008 Democratic presidential primary, to succeed Ms. Rice as U.N. ambassador. For those of you scoring at home, that’s not one, not two, but three flips of the Obama bird to Congress, the American people, and his erstwhile secretary of state, Hillary Clinton.

Excerpt: Over the last month or so we have watched the unfolding of one of the worst government scandals in the last fifty years, and the IRS has been at the center of all of the malfeasance. The IRS has unequivocally proven what many conservatives have long feared – government bureaucracies cannot be trusted.

Excerpt: That determination in turn allows the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to bypass standard processes and fast-track approval for products or drugs in relation to MERS, on the basis of an “emergency use application” (EUA). The FDA may under the prescribed circumstances issue an EUA “authorizing (1) the emergency use of an unapproved drug, an unapproved or uncleared device, or an unlicensed biological product; or (2) an unapproved use of an approved drug, approved or cleared device, or licensed biological product,” the notice says. (Although there is currently no reason to panic, this determination means the government can prepare countermeasures. Now, if only we could have confidence in the government to be competent, impartial, and non-political.... Ron P.)

Cutting the Defense Budget responsibly
Excerpt: As conservative organizations, the R Street Institute and National Taxpayers Union (NTU) believe strongly in a robust national defense. However, our groups also believe strongly in exercising fiscal discipline in all areas of the federal budget. As by Far the largest portion of discretionary spending, Pentagon expenditures must not escape scrutiny as conservatives examine methods for reducing our staggering debt.

Give me 30 minutes and I can find a Guatemalan who'll be a better AG than Eric Holder, and for 10 bucks an hour.
