Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for June 3, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for June 3, 2013
Robert A. Hall
Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Worth Reading: The Expectations of a President. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: It's not a diss but an over time observation - I don't believe Barack Obama understands America. At all. A president who does not understand country? How does that happen? How do Americans allow that to happen?

Guest Post: Why We Still Fight

IRS Employee: D.C. Told Us To Target Tea Party
Excerpt: House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) revealed new testimony from IRS employees on CNN's State of The Union on Sunday. According to transcribed excerpts released by the Committee, a Cincinnati IRS employee made it clear they were told by Washington, D.C. personnel to give extra scrutiny to Tea Party groups:

Louisiana State Senator Switches Party, First Black Republican Since Reconstruction
Excerpt: On Friday, Louisiana State Senator Elbert Guillory switched his party affiliation from the Democrat to the Republican party, becoming the first black Republican in the Louisiana legislature since Reconstruction. "I am as of this day joining Frederick Douglass as a Republican," he said.

Snaking the Scotch. By David P. Goldman
Ethnocentrism is the snake in Christianity's garden, and last week it slithered into the Church of Scotland. It took the form of a screed denying the special claim of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel. (One historian has pointed out that Scotland claims to be the only country in Europe that never had a pogrom against the Jews. But that was because, he said, the Christians were too busy slaughtering each other over ever-smaller pieces of doctrine to worry about the Jews. ~Bob.)

Suspected pirates face unprecedented trial in U.S. court
Excerpt: Since 2005, heavily armed Somalis in jury-rigged speedboats had hijacked scores of oil tankers, cargo ships and private yachts, holding hundreds of crew members hostage for lucrative ransoms. The brigands had crippled shipping in some of the world's busiest sea lanes, costing companies an estimated $5 billion a year. But as three accused pirates face trial Tuesday in Norfolk, Va., on charges of murder in the deaths of the four Americans, the first U.S. trial of its kind in modern times, Somali piracy is in sharp decline. (What was wrong with the old way: shipboard courts-martial and hang’em from the yardarm if found guilty? [Yes, I know most ships no longer have a yardarm, but I bet the chips’ carpenters could improvise, and indeed would be delighted to do so.] Ron P.)

Seriously Jacked Up: Obama Admin Cuts Hot Meals for Afghan Troops
Excerpt: Marines at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan will lose a key daily meal starting Saturday, causing some to forgo a hot breakfast and others to work six-plus hours without refueling on cooked food, according to Marines at the base and Marine Corps officials. (The danger is they will get too weak to stand in the rain holding umbrellas over elitist one percenters. ~Bob.)

Former Obama Aides Cashing In On White House Access
Endemic to Washington--they all do it. Republicans too, alas. ~Bob.

Middle East genocide: We do nothing as Muslims eradicate the last vestiges of Christians and Jews from nation after nation. By Ralph Peters
Excerpt: We are witnesses to murder, and our governments are accomplices. The relentless destruction of the last remnants of the Middle East’s Judeo-Christian civilization is well under way. And we are silent.

5-Star Reader Reviews of The Hand of the Prophet
This short novel is riveting. It takes place in 2053, but the recent beheading of a British soldier, and the attempt to do the same to a French soldier by Muslims shouting "Allahu Akbar," warns us that the future of 2053 has already arrived. The story is graphic, and will not pass Politically Correct censors as bedtime reading for children. But then, under PC thinking, the historical facts of Islam's past and present atrocities in Europe and the Middle East are not bedtime reading for kids either. Or is it? Perhaps it is high time to tell our children -- and each other -- what the imposition of Shariah Law would mean, and what daily life under the rule of Muslims means to anyone who does not subscribe to their beliefs. And the practice of their beliefs is horrible indeed. Set in a simple farmland community, the story clearly describes what it is to be an infidel -- a Christian or Jew or even an atheist -- living under Islamic rulers who are as cruel, fanatical, cynical, and corrupt as those in Islamic countries today. Beware. The subjugation and sexual abuse of women, the institution of slavery, and the barbarous punishments mandated by the Koran, are all shown in this book in detail. What particularly struck me was the description of how members of a modern American farming community could be reduced to a crude medieval life by the institution of Islamic teachings. It shows Americans in the sad state of Muslim peasants everywhere: sunk in mud, blood and horror for the benefit and luxury of their Islamic rulers. Read this book. It will not take long unless you stop too often to catch your breath when you read about what Islam, "the religion of peace," truly means. You will find yourself cheering for the few who resist.

Roll the timeline back by about 200 years and this could very well be our future. I thought this was a well-written story that does a good job of portraying the Islamic obsession with sex and punishment. It also paints a larger picture of the degradation of progress under theocracy. Some of the more brutal images were disturbing, but then I remembered that this is exactly how the early Muslim community is presented by its historians. Devoted Muslims pattern themselves on the life of the prophet - and this is what the spoils of war look like.

Excerpt: I don't know how many of you read those "well scrubbed" talking points that Jay Carney and Ambassador Rice were ordered to present in the Benghazi Scandal Road Show in the aftermath of the tragic and unnecessary deaths of four Americans. But I did....and I was damned impressed! When the policy wonks got through scrubbing the field reports from the "boots on the ground" this debacle didn't look too damned bad! Obama's minions were able to scrub out the weeks old request from the Ambassador to beef up his security detail.

Washington Post: The Justice Department has allowed us to say AG Holder supports press freedom
Excerpt: Among those who did attend was the Washington Post. Today’s Post has an account of the meeting — sort of. That is, they have a story about what the Justice Department allowed them to say about its efforts to protect press freedom. The result is just beyond parody (All emphasis is added):

Recall effort against Arizona's Sheriff Joe Arpaio fails
Excerpt: On Thursday, members of Respect Arizona and Citizens for a Better Arizona -- who launched the recall effort against Arpaio -- failed to gather the necessary 335,000 valid voter signatures by the 5 p.m. deadline. The aim was to force a recall election.

What Search Warrant? Your Facebook Messages and Private Emails are Not Safe From FBI Surveillance, Says ACLU
Excerpt: Warrants? We don't need no stinking warrants. According to new documents obtained by the American Civil Liberties Union, government officials may not always obtain warrants when they snoop through our emails, Facebook messages and other electronic communications and the FBI apparently doesn't even believe it's legally required to do so.

US drones kill 8 AQAP fighters in Yemen strike
Excerpt: US drones launched the first strike in Yemen in 12 days, killing eight "militants" in an attack on an convoy in a southern town controlled by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

P1 Gun Control Survey: Top 10 reasons for gun violence
Excerpt: As part of the recently-conducted PoliceOne Gun Control Survey, we asked law enforcement officials what they believed was the biggest cause of gun violence in the U.S. — and unlike some questions that received landslide majority answers, this section brought to light strong opinions of many diverse causes. The majority — which in this case was only 38 percent of the 14,700 officers who answered the survey — blames the decline in parenting and family values.

Brawl breaks out at Ohio kindergarten graduation
Excerpt: A brawl that started over spilled punch at a kindergarten graduation ceremony Friday resulted in the arrest of eight people, authorities said. Police were called when one participant pulled out a pipe and another a hammer. (Wow! Back when I to kindergarten, we didn't have cool stuff like this going on! As a matter of fact, I barely remember kindergarten at all. I'll bet these kids will remember theirs, though. - LLW)

Black mob violence — in Kindergarden? In Cleveland? By Colin Flaherty
Excerpt: And the cops even charged 8 black people with rioting. Started at a Kindergarten graduation, next thing you know a “very ugly brawl” starts, then spills outside.

Pakistan: Council of Islamic Ideology rules DNA tests not acceptable as primary evidence in rape cases
Excerpt: "Why did they not produce for it four witnesses? And when they do not produce the witnesses, then it is they, in the sight of Allah , who are the liars." -- Qur'an 24:13 The Council of Islamic Ideology rejects DNA testing as primary evidence because it isn't mentioned in the Qur'an. The Qur'an mandates that four witnesses are required to establish sexual crimes -- zina -- and that's that. Women are victimized by this ridiculous and impossible rule? Who cares? It's the will of Allah. (Teen rape victims have been stoned to death for adultery because they didn't have four witnesses. Ain't Shari'a wonderful? ~Bob.)

Newport shopkeeper told to remove ‘obey our laws’ T-shirt
Excerpt: A NEWPORT shopkeeper has been forced by police to remove a T-shirt from his shop window because they felt it “could be seen to be inciting racial hatred.” Matthew Taylor, 35, the owner of Taylor’s clothes store on Emlyn Walk in the city, printed up and displayed the T-shirt with the slogan: “Obey our laws, respect our beliefs or get out of our country” after Drummer Lee Rigby, 25, was killed in near Woolwich barracks in London last week.

Excerpt: It took Tampa jurors only two hours to return a not guilty verdict in the two-day murder trial of a retired Army lieutenant colonel who shot and killed his wife's lover. The incident that led 70-year-old Ralph Wald to be charged with the second-degree murder of 32-year-old Walter Conley was impeccably described by the Tampa Bay Times as "a tragic and inimitably Floridian morality tale involving sex, liquor, self-defense law, erectile dysfunction and a man shot to death with his pants around his knees." ... She later added: "Because my husband puts me first, he's taking me to the Waffle House." (Due to circumstances too long and boring to go into, I once had Christmas Dinner in a Waffle House. Some called it the "Awful House." ~Bob.)

Excerpt: School officials at Dowell Elementary School in the town of Lusby proceeded to question the five-year-old for over two hours before finally calling his mother, whom The Post also does not name. The principal eventually called the boy’s mother at 10:50 a.m. By that time, the five-year-old had wet his pants (which the mother called highly unusual). (Kindergartner? If I was the father of that little boy, I would immediately pull him out of that government indoctrination center and enroll him in a private school if possible, or home school him, if not. Then I would sue the school, all the school officials involved, the school board, and the city for bullying, traumatizing, and humiliating a five year old boy to the point where he peed his pants, and who obviously didn't understand why they were so mad at him for playing with a harmless toy cap gun. I'm sure the school has a "no tolerance" policy when it comes to guns (you know, no pointing fingers, drawing guns, saying "bang", chewing a pop tart into a shape that, if you held it at just the right angle and squinted, might look a little bit like a gun). Well, I have no tolerance for people who have no "common sense". That's my policy. - LLW )

Syrian Rebels in Trouble: German Intelligence Sees Assad Regaining Hold: By Matthias Gebauer
