This wonderful book just came to my attention. The setting is the start of WWII in Britain, but it touches on the fighting only tangentially. It is a story of politics. Chamberlin had a huge majority in the house of Commons who supported his appeasement policies. He and his party were also universally supported by the press—a warning of the danger of the press all being in one party’s bed. A small group of Tory anti-appeasers set out to topple him. It looked hopeless, but they though the Fate of Britain was in the balance. This is the true story of how they won, and the price they paid, though it reads like a political thriller. If you are interested in politics, or history you won’t want to miss this book.
