Where we are today

Read the article and get to the point where it turns out people announce on social media that a looting expedition is forming, a car caravan forms up, and in they go to smash the windows, get into the stores, even tear an ATM out of the bank wall to get at the cash, and have a fantastic fun time.  This is exactly what tolerating violent "protests" and prior looting and burning brings on, no one should be surprised.

The cops must have gotten there late, only arrested a few people, while 13 officers were injured.  What's wrong with that number?  It's just me, of course, but if 13 cops are injured, I'd expect at least double than number of people arrested and some of them to have been injured while resisting arrest.  What this indicates is cops not using all the force at their command, and tolerating attacks on themselves.  This is NOT how you discourage crime!  If we are not going to allow police to shoot people when they are attacked, then we need to give them really incapacitating sprays, shock sticks that knock people right to the ground, and authorize using batons freely when necessary.  The more looters end up in the ER being treated for big bruises, broken bones, shock stick burns, and nasty spray effects, before going to be booked and no bail, the sooner things would calm down.

Yeah, I know, I'm just a nasty old guy who thinks it's OK to use violence against those who are being violent.  Strange concept, I know.  But there may just be some evidence that it can be effective.
