Inside the ‘War’ on Biden-Ukraine Reporting

Inside the ‘War’ on Biden-Ukraine Reporting
Excerpt: “Chalupa said the embassy also worked directly with reporters researching Trump, Manafort, and Russia to point them in the right directions,” Vogel and Stern reported. (It is important to note that the pretext for the phony Trump-Russia collusion probe relied heavily on the involvement of foreign diplomats including former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Australia’s ambassador to the UK, Alexander Downer. More in an upcoming story.) One Ukrainian embassy official confirmed to Politico that “they were coordinating an investigation with the Hillary team on Paul Manafort with Alexandra Chalupa.” Documents obtained by Judicial Watch show that Chalupa visited the Obama White House more than two dozen times, including four visits in December 2015 when she began her anti-Trump research, and five times in 2016. But here’s the most damning conclusion from Vogel’s expose: “Politico’s investigation found evidence of Ukrainian government involvement in the race that appears to strain diplomatic protocol dictating that governments refrain from engaging in one another’s elections.” (...) Nothing in Vogel’s January 2017 story has been debunked; indeed, new information, including congressional testimony from Nellie Ohr, bolsters his account. [Politico is decidedly NOT a center-right or right-leaning outlet, but a center-LEFT one. It’s extremely likely their reporting on this is accurate (or at least they believe it is). That’s why this should be upsetting. Ron P.]

The Looming ‘1984’ Election.

The Looming ‘1984’ Election. Like it or not, 2020 is going to be a plebiscite on an American version of Orwell’s Nineteen-Eighty-Four. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: For a variety of reasons, the 2020 election is going to be a referendum beyond Donald Trump’s record and his Democratic opposition. The furor that Trump has incurred, and the radical antithesis to his agenda and first term, have redefined the looming election. It is becoming a stark choice between a revolutionary future versus American traditionalism. The choice in reductionist terms will be one between a growing, statist Panopticon, fueled by social media, a media-progressive nexus, and an electronic posse. Online trolls and government bureaucrats seek to know everything about us, in Big Brother fashion to monitor our very thoughts to ferret out incorrect ideas, and then to regiment and indoctrinate us to ensure elite visions of mandated equality and correct behavior—or else! In other words, the personality quirks of a Trump or an Elizabeth Warren or a Bernie Sanders will become mostly irrelevant given the existential choice between two quite antithetical ideas of future America. In 2020 we will witness the penultimate manifestation of what radical progressivism has in store for us all—and the furious, often desperate, and unfettered pushback against it.

How the Deep State Media Operate.

How the Deep State Media Operate. By Lawrence Sellin
Excerpt: Few now doubt that the major U.S. media outlets, under the guise of journalism, function as political activists, saturating the airwaves and the internet with the talking points of the Democrat party. (It's more than clear that even before Trump took office, there were a lot of people already primed to destroy his presidency.  I remember that some of my friends always like to mention that once Obama was elected, some GOP members said they wanted to make him a one-term President.  That was true, but 1-they didn't start talking about impeachment even before he took office or anytime soon after that, and 2-he never had the level of vicious opposition that Trump has had.  (Yes, there were the minority of those who went on and on about his birth certificate and him being a closet Muslim, but such stuff never got even a tiny fraction of the attention that claims of Trump being a tool of Putin, etc, have gotten.) Check out the quotes from the "journalists" (they really don't rate that term) on the journolist site about trashing Obama's critics with slanders of racism.  That's all anyone needs to know about what kind of people are in the business, and how they utterly pervert the concept of an objective press.  And that has continued robustly since then. --Del

Flags, Fortunes and Reflections

Flags, Fortunes and Reflections
I mean, it's just a rectangle of cloth with some colors on it, how important can it be? Some have stepped all over it (Bill Ayers put a picture of himself stomping on it in a dirty alley as the cover of a book he wrote), others burn it, some drag it in the dirt, fly it upside down and spit on it, it's just a material object that can be manipulated any way anyone wishes. But things made into symbols then contain real meaning, at least for some. A short stick and a longer stick are just sticks.... until you put one across the other and make a recognizable cross out of them. Then that has a lot of meaning for people, and for those who are Christians, it brings on the whole message of Christianity, the love of God, the sacrifice for others, redemption, and the future of peace and joy with God. Another bunch of sticks mean nothing until you put them in the pattern of a "crooked cross", the swastika, and then it has enormous meaning for people. What that flag means to so many is the wonderful ideals of America and the struggles and sacrifices of so many to work on bringing the ideals into reality, and protect them. It means the devotion to freedom for all, life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, all paid for by oceans of blood given willingly by those who believe in those ideals and who see them in that flag. Are we who honor the flag the sentimental fools? I say no, a million times no, it is those who have no belief in the flag and what it really stands for who are the sad fools, and I pity them. --Del

Seattle Schools Propose To Teach That Math Education Is Racist—Will California Be Far Behind?

Seattle Schools Propose To Teach That Math Education Is Racist—Will California Be Far Behind? by Lee Ohanian
Excerpt: California’s latest K–12 test scores were released earlier this month. Despite spending 26 percent more per pupil after inflation since 2011, test scores remain low, and improvement is proceeding at a glacial pace. Just 40 percent of California schoolchildren are proficient at math. What should be done? Seattle’s idea is to teach their students that US math education is racist, is used to oppress people of color and the disadvantaged, and has been used to exploit natural resources

Why the Right Fails to Change Culture

Why the Right Fails to Change Culture
“We don’t do videos.”
I have observed that on almost any issue of importance to conservatives and, as evidenced at attendance to events, septuagenarians are 90% of the audience. We lament that the young are being misled. They are indeed consuming information, propaganda from sources we rightly condemn as destructive. While we produce rigorous intellectually honest material, it may well be that the media we use are not those accessed by the generations we wish to reach. They watch videos and read graphic novels. Are we preaching to the choir of the convinced? Yours truly, Larry Greenberg

The Birth of the Deep State: A History

The Birth of the Deep State: A History
Excerpt: The same deep state which is dogging Trump also prevented Obama from closing the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. But where did the American deep state come from? Has it always been there? In fact, the evolution of the deep state (and this choice of term, “evolution” as opposed to “creation”, will be explained later) is — some might say ironically — found in a nearly 140-year old  anti-corruption “reform” measure; one that was explicitly focused upon depoliticizing the civilian component of the United States government. (...) No orders are issued, and there is no chain of command. It communicates by example: leaks reported in the news beget more leaks, anonymous tips spawn a rash of new tipsters. No lofty conspiracy theories are necessary; a massive army of bureaucrats in an era of free/highly affordable burner phones, file sharing services, and document scanning apps are more than sufficient to gum up the wheels of executive action.  There are no secret codes, no dead drops, and no shadowy agents meeting in parking garages in the dead of night: perhaps more dauntingly, the deep state coalesces from among a seemingly incalculable number of nondescript men and women with families and homes in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs of Washington D.C. It receives a salary every two weeks, drawn upon the United States Treasury. Its atomic elements — individuals — coach Little League, go to Zumba classes, and generally have mainstream opinions. Many, no doubt, dismiss the very notion of a deep state. Even when they send an anonymous email, shred a document intended for other eyes, or impishly pass a tip to someone with a second- or third-hand relationship in the media, most of them probably see the deep state as something larger, above and beyond themselves. Yet they are the deep state. [OMFG! This may be the most important article you read today. It’s a coherent, cohesive explanation of what has happened–and why–to our “professional federal service employees.” And, it’s likely happening at the state and local levels, as well. Prepare yourself to be unsettled. Ron P. Addendum: When I was a small child in the late 1940s, one of the local gossipy stories that was frequently told was that the local US Postmaster in our very small Kentucky town of about 100 souls had been fired in the mid-1930s because he couldn’t read. The job was immediately filled by his wife, who could read. She was paid the same amount as a rural letter carrier, which wasn’t much. Instead, the way she made “big bucks”–relative to the times–was by renting out to the federal government space for a Post Office in her livingroom. She continued in her job and renting that space until she died in the early 1970s. True story. Ron P.]

Progressive lawyer Boudin wins San Francisco’s DA race By DAISY NGUYEN

Progressive lawyer Boudin wins San Francisco’s DA race. By DAISY NGUYEN
'm not sure how it gets any worse than this. A child of literally murderous radicals gets raised by the also violent radical partners of his parents, immersed from birth in radicalism and contempt for this nation, wins an election to be in charge of a major city's justice system. Among his major priorities are to "protect immigrants from deportation and pursue accountability in police misconduct cases". In the city where so famously a multiply deported "immigrant" shot and killed a young woman, yet suffered no real penalty at all for it. And I bet every San Francisco cop is now wondering about early retirement or transferring somewhere else, since they now have the feeling of a target on their backs not just from local criminals but the DA's office. It's going to be interesting to continue to watch SF slide ever further towards chaos. But people voted him in, and as Jefferson once said, in a democracy you get the government you deserve. --Del

U.S. Offers Up to $4 Million for Location of Freed Guantánamo Convict
Excerpt: The United States government on Thursday offered a $4 million reward for information on the whereabouts of a Sudanese man who was convicted of war crimes at Guantánamo, was repatriated in 2012 and is suspected of recruiting for Al Qaeda’s branch in Yemen. It is believed to be the first case of the United States offering a reward for the whereabouts of a prisoner released from Guantánamo by the Obama administration.

Andrew McCarthy: THIS is the impeachment question

Andrew McCarthy: THIS is the impeachment question
Excerpt: Is it an impeachable offense? That is the question of the hour. On “Fox News Sunday,” Chris Wallace pressed it on Republican Congressman Will Hurd of Texas. It is a question every Republican supporter of President Trump should be prepared to answer. Democrats, by contrast, determined that the president was impeachable before he ever darkened the Oval Office door; it’s not worth asking them since their answer preexisted any real or imagined occasion for posing the question. It is, of course, the question that must be asked. That does not make it a fair question. It is unfair because it assumes a fact that is not in evidence, namely: that we have a working definition of an impeachable offense on which there is agreement – or at least something close to consensus. We don’t. [This question goes directly to the heart of the matter. It has bearing on the prior impeachments of both Johnson and Clinton, both of which failed in the Senate, just as this one is likely to do, if passed by the House. There may well be no possible “all-inclusive” definition of an impeachable crime since the goal posts will move with every election. Ron P.]
