Lots of good stuff today

Chicago Tribune Editorial: Stop digging. Start over. This political salvage mission by the White House is roiling Americans' health coverage.
Well, they endorsed him, the useful idiots. ~Bob. Excerpt: What we don't understand is their reluctance to give that failure more than lip service. Many of the Americans who heard their president say Thursday that "we fumbled the rollout of this health care law" would have been pleased to hear him add: So we're admitting it. This law is a bust. We're starting over.

Excerpt: The Republicans had a vote to try to cancel that regulation so you couldn’t be cancelled, to grandfather everybody in. You know what the vote was? Straight party line. Every Democrat voted to keep the rule that cancels your insurance.

Four States Reject Obamacare "Fix"
Excerpt: Arkansas, Vermont, Washington and Rhode Island have rejected the changes.

Good column: ObamaCare's Chicago Moment. By Abraham H. Miller
Excerpt: But if Obama learned anything while being a community organizer in Chicago and picketing banks to implement the community reinvestment act that was the linchpin for the financial disaster of 2008, it was that the public might not understand all the complex nuances of politics; they do understand when political screw ups touch their everyday existence.

Congressmen Will Receive Obamacare Subsidy Even Though They Don’t Qualify Under The Law
http://lastresistance.com/3712/congressmen-will-receive-obamacare-subsidy-even-though-dont-qualify-law/
Excerpt: Under the OPM deal arranged in August, the average member of Congress who makes $174,000 a year will be able to keep his approximately $10,000 health insurance subsidy, like he used to get under his old plan, before Obamacare. Congressional staffers who buy through the exchange will also get to keep the subsidies they were receiving.

How ObamaCare Rips Off the Young
Excerpt: When ObamaCare is under attack, its defenders retreat to several well-worn claims. Among them is a provision that compels insurance companies to allow parents to keep their "children" ages 21 to 26 on their family policies. Yet this part of the Affordable Care Act was not engineered in response to any noticeable interest group. Instead, political considerations are responsible for the provision -- which is an unnecessary and a deceptive ripoff of the "young healthies," says Carl Schramm, president and chief executive officer of the Kauffman Foundation. One consideration is that young adults facing chronic unemployment commonly return to their parents' home. The Obama administration sought to avoid a potential political storm by providing a benefit normally connected to holding a job for one of its most reliable support groups. Another consideration is that ObamaCare's financing won't work unless "young healthies" (or their parents) pay through the nose for coverage under parental plans or via the individual mandate. The 18 to 26 age group is the lowest user of care, the least costly to cover and the most profitable of all health-insurance coverage. Yet the group faces extraordinarily high ObamaCare rates. A Manhattan Institute analysis of Health and Human Services numbers notes that a 27-year-old male will pay 99 percent higher premiums under ObamaCare than he would under previously prevailing market rates.

Excerpt: But then, after Obama mentioned her story, Sanford started having problems. Sanford said she received another letter informing her the Washington state health exchange had miscalculated her eligibility for a tax credit. In other words, her monthly insurance bill had shot up from $198 a month (she had initially said $169 a month to the White House but she switched plans) to $280 a month for the same "gold" plan offered by the state exchange. Sanford said she was frustrated with the state's error. But she decided to purchase the new plan and thought everything was fine. It wasn't fine. (Psalm 146/3: Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ~Bob)

Last month's Obamacare success story is this month's disaster
This woman was recognized by Mr. Obama himself as a great success story of Obamacare, back in October. But this month she is transformed into a total loser. Fascinating. --Del

Obamacare closes tax deduction for Americans affected by losing existing health plans
Excerpt: Millions of Americans facing higher out-of-pocket costs border=0 v:shapes="_x0000_i1025">  after losing their existing health insurance will also be damaged by what is effectively a tax hike imposed under Obamacare. Before President Obama’s health reform law went into effect, Americans could deduct out-of-pocket medical costs if they amounted to at least 7.5 percent of the individual’s annual income…. But now under Obamacare, Americans can only deduct out-of-pocket medical costs if they amount to 10 percent of the individual’s income .

Suddenly, It's OK to Talk About Repealing ObamaCare
Excerpt: Not too long ago, Republicans pushing to kill ObamaCare were called extremists, obsessives and traitors. Now even liberals are discussing the possibility of repeal. We've reached an important turning point. Back in May, nobody batted an eye when Bill Maher blasted the GOP's efforts to repeal ObamaCare. "At some point," he said, "obstruction becomes, I don't know, treason?" What a difference a few million canceled health plans and a crash-prone website make. (I would not have thought this possible, but now it at least can be mentioned. We can only hope this idea goes on a roll. --Del)

Now Romney's Ahead! Botched ACA Rollout Hammers Obama; Job Disapproval Reaches a Career High
Excerpt: And perhaps adding insult to injury, registered voters divide numerically in Mitt Romney’s favor, 49-45 percent, if they had a mulligan for the 2012 presidential election. While the difference between the two is within the poll’s error margin, Obama’s support is 6 points below his actual showing a year ago. (Now they tell us. Dear America: This is what we were warning you about, but you wouldn't listen. -- Jim Geraghty)

Another ObamaCare Cost: Feds gave $4.4B to states for exchange websites
Excerpt: The Obama administration gave states roughly $4.4 billion in taxpayer dollars to set up their own ObamaCare websites, according to a new analysis, in the latest revelation about the faucet of federal spending switched on by the 2010 passage of the health care law. ("Some of the states even took federal money, then decided to let the federal site handle enrollment." So it was just another Obama slush fund. --Ace of Spades blog.)

CMS Official: We Still Haven't Built '30 to 40 Percent' of Obamacare's Web Apparatus, Including Payment Systems
Excerpt: HENRY CHAO: I think it's, uh, just an approximation, we're probably sitting somewhere between 60 and 70 percent because we still have to build... GARDNER: Wait, 60 or 70 percent that needs to be built, still? CHAO: Because we still have to build the payment systems to make payments to insurers in January.

Taking 'Obama' out of health care. By Reid J. Epstein, Politico
Excerpt: President Barack Obama and loyal Democrats once embraced the term Obamacare to sell the American people on health care reform. Not anymore. With the president’s approval ratings at record lows, a broken website and Obama under fire for his pledge that people could keep their plans, the “Affordable Care Act” has returned.

The Lawlessness of the ‘Fix’: Insurance companies would be insane to offer plans that failed to comply with the ACA. By Andrew C. McCarthy
Excerpt: Barack Obama could not have been more unequivocal. The telecommunications companies had to be punished for violating the letter of federal law. He didn’t want to hear about how President Bush told them it was okay. One laughs now remembering how Obama’s base, the anti-anti-terrorist Left and its lawyer legions, used to call Bush the “imperial president” and thunder for his impeachment. Bush couldn’t hold a candle to our incumbent Caligula. He had no idea, for example, that presidents can just “waive” inconvenient parts of congressional statutes, like FISA.

NY not planning to reoffer canceled health plans
Excerpt: New York is not planning to reoffer canceled health-insurance policies that don't meet the requirements of the federal Affordable Care Act. (They can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. ~Bob)

A Practicing Physician’s Prescription For A Healthcare Fix. By Dr. Elaina George
Excerpt: For all of the desperate attempts at distraction, demonization and outright lies about Obamacare the truth remains – having health insurance does notequal getting quality healthcare.
It is true that there are problems with the health insurance industry. If anyone had bothered to ask independent private physicians why they no longer take Medicare/Medicaid, or why many are opting out of insurance and moving towards a cash only practice in increasing numbers, they would tell you that they stopped because the game is rigged.

Flashback--2007 Hillarycare Ad: 'Lets You Keep Your Coverage If You Like It'
Excerpt: But Hillary Clinton’s 2008 plan, laid out in an advertisement that aired in early presidential primary states in 2007, promised Americans they could “keep your coverage if you like it.” The ad also claimed the plan would provide “affordable choices if you don’t” and “covers every American”—echoing the claims of Obamacare.

Breaking: Supreme Court refuses to block Texas abortion restrictions

Just had a CHILLING thought. What if the MUTE button was never created? I'd have 2 manually turn DOWN the volume when O comes on TV!

Good Column: The War Against Achievement. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: A friend recently sent me a link to an inspiring video about an upbeat young black man who was born without arms. It showed him going to work -- unlike the record number of people living on government payments for "disabilities" that are far less serious, if not fictitious. ... What would happen if Americans in general, or blacks in particular, started celebrating people like this armless young man, instead of trying to make heroes out of hoodlums?

Good column: Obama’s Noble Lies: Stop worrying whether the president’s statements conform to ossified standards of truth. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: What is the common denominator of the Obama administration’s serial scandals — the Justice Department’s spying on AP, the IRS targeting of conservative groups, the NSA surveillance, the lies about Benghazi and the ACA — and much of the White House damage-control rhetoric? In a word: the advancement of postmodern notions of justice at the expense of traditional truth. By the 1980s, in law schools, university social-science departments, and the humanities in general, the old relativist idea of Plato’s noble lies was given a new French facelift.

Scary: Lavabit Founder Ladar Levison Plots The Route. By Stella Paul
Excerpt: The California Endowment, a private foundation spending millions on ads aimed at enrolling young adults and Hispanics in Obamacare, now also has granted $500,000 to educate TV writers and producers on Obamacare, and suggest ways to weave its many splendors into fictional prime-time shows. "We know from research that when people watch entertainment television, even if they know it's fiction, they tend to believe that the factual stuff is actually factual," said grant recipient Martin Kaplan of the University of Southern California's Norman Lear Center.

Reuters: Pentagon's Doctored Ledgers Conceal Billions in 'Epic Waste'
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/pentagon-waste-theft-fraud/2013/11/18/id/537248?promo_code=14FD4-1
Excerpt: Linda Woodford spent the last 15 years of her career inserting phony numbers in the U.S. Department of Defense's accounts. Every month until she retired in 2011, she says, the day came when the Navy would start dumping numbers on the Cleveland, Ohio, office of the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, the Pentagon's main accounting agency.

Women in combat zone alongside men: wrong on so many levels. By Michele Hickford
Excerpt: I shoot. I can do 50 man-style push-ups in one set. But I’m 4’10’ and weigh 95 pounds. There’s no way in hell I could fireman-carry a wounded 180-pound male soldier off the battlefield. I absolutely do not believe standards should be “relaxed” to allow pipsqueaks like me to qualify in the name of equality and fairness. If I can’t do everything the average male soldier can do in combat, I shouldn’t be in combat. Simple as that.

Source: 4 female Marines will graduate enlisted infantry training this week
Excerpt: Four women will graduate this week from the Marine Corps’ enlisted infantry training course, Marine Corps Times has learned. ... Throughout the training, female students were held to the same standards as men, Marine officials said.

Caught On Video: Off-Duty Cop Nearly Beaten To Death In Front Of His Wife – How Spectators React Is Almost Equally Disturbing
Excerpt: An off-duty New York Police Department officer was severely beaten over the weekend while his wife watched helplessly. What’s more, spectators taunted and laughed — and no one seems to come to the man’s immediate aid as his attacker continued to beat him while he lay unconscious. Sgt. Mohammed Deen, an 18-year veteran with the NYPD, was attacked by Hayden Holder in Queens South Richmond Hill neighborhood Sunday, according to WABC-TV.

Pakistan: Daughter Sexually Assaulted By Father Is Honor Killed By Her Brother

Virginia state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds stabbed in home; adult son, Gus Deeds, fatally shot
Excerpt: Virginia state Sen. R. Creigh Deeds (D-Bath) was stabbed multiple times early Tuesday in an assault at his house in Bath County, west of Charlottesville, Virginia State Police said. The senator’s 24-year-old son, Gus Deeds, was found fatally shot inside the home. ... Geller said authorities are not looking for anyone else who might have been involved in the assault, an indication that the altercation involved only the senator and his son.

Excerpt: The benefits of free international trade are often diffuse and hard to see, while the benefits of shielding specific groups from foreign competition are often immediate and visible. This illusion fuels the common perception that free trade is detrimental to the American economy. It also tips the scales in favor of special interests seeking protection from foreign competition. As a result, the federal government currently imposes thousands of tariffs, quotas, and other barriers to trade. However well intended, restrictions on foreign trade harm the very people they aim to protect: American consumers and producers. Trade restrictions limit the choices of what Americans can buy; they also drive up the prices of everything from clothing and groceries to the materials manufacturers use to make everyday products. Moreover, it is lower-income Americans who generally bear a disproportionate share of these costs. (Unfortunately, Progressives despite their empty pieties, don't care about low income Americans. They care about getting votes, thus power and money, from economically ignorant voters., ~Bob)

California Department of Justice agents sweep Fresno, Clovis for illegal guns. By Jim Guy
Excerpt: The sign in the window warned burglars that the homeowner owned a handgun and would use it in self-defense. The state agents knocking on the door were there to confiscate the weapon. The agents are part of the California Department of Justice's Armed Prohibited Persons System (APPS), a program that takes firearms from people barred from owning them. The law says that group can include ex-felons and people deemed to be mentally unstable. Often arriving in SUVs and dressed in black tactical uniforms, the teams regularly sweep through California cities with a list of names and addresses.

Obama's Soft Stance on Iran Might Force Israel to Strike. By Yaakov Lappin
Excerpt: But they already sparked a fierce public rift between the government of Israel and the Obama administration, the likes of which have not been seen in U.S.-Israeli relations in many years. Fueling the disagreement are deep concerns in Jerusalem – and other capitals in the Middle East, as well as in Paris – that the Obama administration is willing to settle for a shortsighted, poor interim deal that will cause existing, crippling sanctions to crumble. That would enable Iran to stay on the brink of nuclear weapons production, and enable President Obama to defer the crisis to the next administration. (Only thing left is for Obama to channel Jesse Jackson and call Tel Aviv "Hymietown." ~Bob)

It would be a great mistake to capitulate before Iran when they have all the reasons right now to respond to the pressure.

Quotes
"When you disarm [the people] you commence to offend them and show that you distrust them either through cowardice or lack of confidence, and both of these opinions generate hatred against you." "When the people are entrusted with the care of any privilege or liberty, being less disposed to encroach upon it, they will of necessity take better care of it; and being unable to take it away themselves, will prevent others from doing so." "A republic should take great care not to entrust with an important administration one who has been gravely offended." - Niccoló Machiavelli, The Prince. 1537.

Obama delivers Gettysburg Address on YouTube, leaves out ‘under God’
Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2013/11/19/obama-delivers-gettysburg-address-on-youtube-leaves-out-under-god/#ixzz2l6n3Vv19
Excerpt: Historians do believe that Lincoln honed the address in later drafts after he delivered it, but there is little disagreement about whether Lincoln uttered the words “under God” when he spoke at Gettysburg. “Every stenographic report, good, bad and indifferent, says ‘that the nation shall, under God, have a new birth of freedom,’” wrote historian William E. Barton. “There was no common source from which all the reporters could have obtained those words but from Lincoln’s own lips at the time of delivery.”

Suicide bombings kill 23 near Iran embassy in Beirut
Excerpt: Two suicide bombings rocked Iran's embassy compound in Lebanon on Tuesday, killing at least 23 people including an Iranian cultural attaché and hurling bodies and burning wreckage across a debris-strewn street. (Muslims slaughtering Muslims for Allah. Thus has to always been, so shall it always be in the Religion of Death. ~bob)

Excerpt: At least 19 people have been killed in a suicide attack on an African Union base in the Somali town of Beledweyne near Ethiopia's border, officials say.

Barack Obama, Derelict. By Ed Lasky
Excerpt: Let's take Barack Obama at his word -- a stretch certainly for anyone who would lie about his own mother's death to score partisan points will lie about...well, anything. But let's put the most positive spin on what President Obama has been conveying to his fellow Americans. One can try to be optimistic even in these perilous times -- it is one of the great traits of being American.

Martin Bashir: Gee, I'm Awfully Sorry I Said Someone Should Defecate In Sarah Palin's Mouth
Excerpt: Leftist politics, I maintain, are not a politics at all, but a psychological response to one's shortcomings and feelings of failure. Leftist politics are, simply put, a way of getting even with a world that's done one wrong -- and most people carrying about such grievances against a world that's done one wrong are psychologically broken. These fairytale "politics" give them an avenue to vent their rages and turmoils about their failures and inadequacies in a way that is deemed, incorrectly, to be socially acceptable and even high-minded. (Imagine the uproar if a conservative TV pundit said this about Michelle Obama or Nancy Pelosi? ~Bob)

Good Column: The JFK Conspiracy Theory Is the Conspiracy. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: JFK was not killed by some miasma of right-wing hatred, by a confederacy of Cuban exiles, CIA agents and Sicilian mafia bosses. The directions in which the JFK conspiracy theories point reveal what they are trying to hide. John F. Kennedy was not murdered by a miasma of hatred on the right, but on the left. Before liberals became leftists, leftists had a propensity for killing liberals.

Yes: Do Americans Prefer Deception? By Walter Williams
Excerpt: Congress tells us that one-half (6.2 percent) of the Social Security tax is paid by employees and that the other half is paid by employers, for a total of 12.4 percent. Similarly, we are told that a Medicare tax of 1.45 percent is levied on employees and that another 1.45 percent is levied on employers. The truth of the matter is that the burden of both taxes is borne by employees. In other words, we pay both the employee and the so-called employer share. You say, “Williams, that’s nonsense! Just look at what it says on my pay stub.” OK, let’s look at it.

Obama building 'compliant officer class.' By F. Michael Maloof
Excerpt: The extraordinarily large number of senior military officials being relieved of duty under the Obama administration – nine generals and flag officers this year alone and close to 200 senior officers over the last five years – is part of the creation of a “compliant officer class,” according to a U.S. Army intelligence official. (The more I hear of this, the less sleep I get. --Del. I approach WND with caution. Their hair is always on fire, they indulge in a lot of speculation and put the worst spin possible for the left on things. Which doesn't mean they are always wrong. ~Bob)

Gitmo good life: U.S. spends millions on landscaping, art classes for terror detainees
Excerpt: Thanks to a multimillion-dollar federal contract, Guantanamo Bay prisoners can enroll in seminars to learn all about basic landscaping and pruning, calligraphy and Microsoft PowerPoint while the U.S. figures out what to do with them. Prisoners also can get in touch with their artistic sides.

The News in Zingers. By Argus Hamilton

French hostage escapes Nigerian jihadist captors at prayer time
Excerpt: This may be why jihadist kidnappers so often try to convert their captives to Islam. If Collump had been a Muslim, he would have been praying at the same time, and would not have noticed the unlocked door. But why didn't Allah notice and prevent the escape of the Infidel hostage? He is indeed the "best of schemers" (Qur'an 3:54).

WELFARE ABUSE: 32 years old Austin, TX welfare recipient says working is stupid.
2 Thessalonians 3:6-13 " For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living." But I suspect this could be fake. ~Bob

Nothing personal, Kayne. He uses everybody. ~Bob

Bay Area Democrats tiring of Obama, resulting in slashed ticket prices for upcoming DNC fundraiser
This week only! Lies and broken promises half off! ~Bob. Excerpt: The Democratic National Committee is so desperate to get donors to attend its shindigs that it’s slashed ticket prices for a high-dollar fundraiser in San Francisco next week in half. The committee announced the reduced ticket prices in a donor email Monday as a result of the lackluster ticket sales for the fundraiser thus far.

Brave Woman: Challenging supremacist ideology in Islam. By Tehmina Kazi
Excerpt: Firstly, it is clear to me that the supremacist ideology peddled by these international terrorists is the thin end of a spectacularly ugly wedge. I see less serious manifestations of this ideology all the time as the Director of British Muslims for Secular Democracy, as well as excuses being made for it.

Republican, so will be a national story and his party will be mentioned in every article. Obama used coke too, they say, but no story there. ~Bob

Today's Political Incoming

A Soldier May Not Criticize Our Commandant. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Sorry, General Pershing, they were not the same kind of men. As good as soldiers were, men who wanted to be Marines were different. They have been since. And they still are, at least for a while longer, despite today's inane social experiments.

The American pill bug. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Yet if we shut down our entireMiddle East public profile on the threat of terrorism, what will we do when more anti-American violence arises? Should we close more embassies for more days, or return home altogether? Apparently al-Qaeda did not get the message that the administration's euphemisms of "workplace violence," "overseas contingency operations," "man-caused disasters" and jihad as "a holy struggle" were intended as outreach to the global Muslim community.

Still not fonda Hanoi Jane. By Phillip Jennings and James S. Robbins
Excerpt: At the time she said, ““If you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist.” The idea of praying to an atheistic creed called into question whether Fonda herself understood the first thing about communism. But Fonda was an outspoken critic of the war effort at home and abroad, and her celebrity gave her access to the media and a façade of credibility.

Breaking the Law of Demand: Krueger and Card’s New Minimum Wage Theory After 20 Years. By D.W. Mackenzie
Excerpt: Over the past decade, the teen unemployment rate has ranged from a low of 12.7 percent (April 2006) to a high of 27.6 percent (October 2009), and it has been over 20 percent since March 2009. The unemployment rate among black teens has ranged from 23.5 percent (December 2005) to 48.6 percent (September 2010). The latest figures for July 2013 show a black teen unemployment rate of 41.6 percent. These figures do not count teens who gave up and dropped out of the labor force entirely. Since unemployment rates among teens are always in the double digits, it would seem clear that minimum wages went beyond a tipping point long ago. There is similar evidence regarding high-school dropouts.

Excerpt: Members of Congress and Hill staffers will not lose their health-care subsidies from the government when Obamacare is implemented because of an exception proposed Wednesday by the Office of Personnel Management.

She's a finalist along with five men. She's refereed six years in college but the five male candidates are prison guards and have the edge in NFL experience.

Old but current: Black Flight Hits Detroit
Excerpt: Ms. Barham's journey from diehard to defector illustrates the precarious state of Detroit today. The city—which has shed roughly 1 million residents since the 1950s—is now losing the African-American professionals who had stayed steadfastly, almost defiantly, loyal.
Through decades of white flight and economic distress, these diehards have sustained the city's cultural institutions and allowed prime neighborhoods such as Indian Village and Palmer Woods to stave off the blight that infects large swaths of Detroit.

Raped and Murdered for Being White. By Jack Kerwick
Excerpt: Dunn admitted that before he knew for certain the racial identity of the driver of the Toyota MR2 on which he set his sights, he told her that if the driver was black, he would only “tie” him up. But if the driver was white, then he would kill him (or her).

Three Forgotten Facts About The Fort Hood Massacre. By Michell Malkin
Excerpt: Pvt. Francheska Velez, 21, was pregnant when Hasan shot her during the first round of gunfire. At a military Article 32 hearing in 2010 (analogous to a civilian grand jury hearing), a survivor of the Fort Hood shootings testified that Velez cried out, "My baby! My baby!" In his opening statement on Tuesday, Hasan (acting as his own lawyer) apologized to his fellow jihadists for not destroying more innocent life.

Heroin Makes a Comeback: This time, small towns are increasingly beset by addiction. By Zusha Elinson and Arian Campo-Flores
Excerpt: This small city east of the Cascade Mountains is known for its hay farms, rodeos and, increasingly, something more sinister: a growing heroin problem. The drug surfaced in the past two years and is spawning a new generation of addicts. The fatal overdose of a state trooper's son in May convulsed the town—especially when the two men arrested and charged with selling him heroin turned out to be a county official's sons.

Tower Hamlets, London--Why the English Defence League Must Return. http://englishdefenceleague.org/edl-news-2/1993-tower-hamlets-why-the-edl-must-return
Excerpt: Recently, Tower Hamlets reached boiling point. ‘Sharia Zone’ stickers began to appear. ‘Muslim Patrols’ roamed the streets at night, looking for haram behaviour to stamp out. No beer allowed, this is a Muslim area. No women without burkhas, this is a Muslim area. No homosexuals, this is a Muslim area. Get out or be brutally assaulted. This was their message to the people of London.

Are Police in America Now A Military, Occupying Force? By John W. Whitehead
Excerpt: Indeed, violent crime in America has been on a steady decline, and if current trends continue, Americans will finish the year 2013 experiencing the lowest murder rate in over a century. Despite this clear referendum on the fact that communities would be better served by smaller, demilitarized police forces, police agencies throughout the country are dramatically increasing in size and scope. Some of the nation’s larger cities boast police forces the size of small armies.

A Republic, If You Can Keep It. By Kelleigh Nelson
Excerpt: Ben Franklin was right when he stated, "We've given you a Republic, if you can keep it." We haven't kept it, and the total destruction is almost complete. Every day our state and federal governments pass more egregious and abusive laws negating our God given freedoms and the Bill of Rights.

School Defends Textbook Calling Muhammad “God’s Messenger”
Excerpt: The Prentice World History textbook being used in Brevard Public Schools includes a 36-page chapter on Islam but no chapters on Christianity or Judaism. (You have to read this article to get a full picture of how slanted this textbook is. It's just flat out ridiculous, and defending this is stupid and malfeasance in office for the bureaucrats. They're saying that since the kids heard about Christianity and Judaism in the sixth grade, laying this long and somewhat sanitized description of Islam on them in the ninth grade is perfectly OK. Anyone who thinks that the carryover from a lower grade treatment three years earlier will keep the kids in perfect balance about religions when they get this treatment as older subjects does not understand much about the educational process. The only reasonable way to give kids an education in comparative religions is to teach a course precisely in that vein, with the several religions all described with the same objective tone and roughly equal level of coverage. --Del)

A 13-year-old sexual predator? No. I encountered the real deal last night. By Mic Wright
Excerpt: I've since discovered that OSC stands for "Online Sex-Offender Community". I’m flagging up this particular example not because it is rare or unusual but because there is a whole network of these sites and accounts across the web. Those who identify themselves as part of the Online Sex-Offender Community are brazen.

Just when you thought Stephen Fry couldn't get any more pompous, he declares war on Russian on behalf of 'the civilized world'. By Brendon O'Neill
Excerpt: Just when you thought Stephen Fry couldn't get any more pompous and self-important, he goes and writes a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on behalf of the entire "civilised world" demanding that it forbid Russia from hosting the Winter Olympics in 2014. Not content with being King of the Luvvies and High Priest of Hampstead, Mr Fry now seems to have his eye on the title of Arbiter Of All That Is Right In Global Affairs.

Downing Street claims Spain gives in over Gibraltar after 15-min phone call from PM David Cameron. Alex Spillius and Peter Dominiczak
Excerpt: However, the Spanish government insisted that it had stood its ground and called the British territory’s conduct “unacceptable”. The standoff followed the decision by Spanish border guards to check every vehicle crossing into the British territory, causing waiting times of up to six hours, when half an hour or less is the norm. The Spaniards appeared to be retaliating for the construction of an artificial reef by Gibraltar late last month that was intended to drive away Spanish fishermen from the territory’s waters and resurrect marine life. (Ah, in the old days, the Brits would have given them a whiff of grape. ~Bob.)

Obamacare Unlikely To Secure Americans’ Private Information
Excerpt: ObamaCare requires that the government know Americans’ financial, medical, and employment information. This data should be private, yet the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says that the Obama administration has not set up adequate safeguards to protect Americans’ private information under the new healthcare system. Reuters indicates that the OIG’s study, released on Friday, discovered that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)--the HHS agency that is running ObamaCare--“had set a May 13 deadline for its contractor to deliver a plan to test the security of the crucial information technology component.” (Set a deadline but not met yet. Buy LifeLock stock, although their ads have more fine print saying things they no longer guarantee. But, hey, your local medical practices and hospitals have to have all this secure by various federal laws; while the federal gov is on the brink (10/01/13) of violating its own laws…..Barb)

Obama lied on Leno, where’s the outrage?
Excerpt: Obama’s Orwellian police state has been fully unfurled, and the public’s collective response has been “Meh,” along with some cheering on “The Tonight Show.” Shame on those who are letting everything this country stands for be destroyed. It is pathetic.

Excerpt: Erdogan is an Islamist who has worked for the last several years to reverse Turkey’s long-standing secular laws...The two groups share the same ultimate goal — the establishment of a regional Islamic dictatorship, or Caliphate — but favor different strategies. Al-Qaida says the goal can’t be achieve without attacks on the United States, such as the 9/11 atrocity in 2001, while the Brotherhood is trying to win power in Arab countries through elections or force. (NOTE that article states Saudi Arabia backing rival Syrian group with strong ties to AQ. But SAs are to have carte blanche free express entry to the US while supporting AQ that wants to attack US? And states POTUS wants the Caliphate, ergo, dreams of global conquest and suppression of those gun-totin’ Bible-thumping idiots that are so meddlesome to his will? What happened oath to protect US citizens US security and violating such? What’s it matter? An oath is something to laugh at, to be taken and violated, with no consequences from Congress. –Barb)

Ex-Border Patrol Agents Warn: Politicians Helping Cartels In U.S.
Excerpt: In an open letter to the public in late July, several retired Border Patrol agents wrote on behalf of the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers to warn that Mexican drug cartels are actively operating inside the United States spending millions every year to try to build their networks here. They argued that American politicians are protecting their activities as well. (Well, they have bought 98% of the politicians and cops in Mexico, so have to do something with the billions the druggies provide them. ~Bob)

Ramadan Bombathon: Muslims Bomb Buddhist Temple In Indonesia While About 300 Devotees Were Inside Praying

Excerpt: "If it wasn't for [the] 'stand your ground' law, right now I would be in jail, and my life could've been taken at that point," said Darrell Standberry. (Black guy, but I’m guessing Obama won’t say, “Could have been me.” ~Bob)

On Abortion, Wendy (Abortion Barbie) Davis Doesn’t Know What She’s Talking About. By Kirsten Powers
Excerpt: The Texas crusader let it slip this week that she is badly misinformed on the late-term abortion ban she crusaded against. And she’s not the only misinformed Democratic woman, writes Kirsten Powers.

Review on Amazon for The Old Jarhead’s Journal
Robert A. Hall no doubt has Papa Hemingway as his muse, standing just over his left shoulder as he sits down to write. Hall gives it to you straight, tells you things you may not want, but need to hear. He does it without the flowery overlaying of wasted words meant to obfuscate and confuse. A steadfast Marine, an honest politician, and a man who loves his country deeply, Hall argues the conservative viewpoint as well as anyone writing today. If you can get through his brilliant essay "I'm Tired" without shedding a tear, or have chills running down your back, you have no business reading Mr. Hall's work. But if you love your country, if you're concerned about the direction we are currently moving toward, you can't do better than read Mr. Hall's assessment of where we are and what we need to do to correct course; to restore the America that once fulfilled the dreams of millions. So be good to yourself; rouse you spirit of citizenship and join the thousands of us who have benefited from reading about simple truths, the values of real leadership and the supremacy of leading a liberated life. God bless this fine man as he shows us how to live a life of worth.

Unemployment Isn't Going Anywhere Fast
Excerpt: The June unemployment report was released recently with little fanfare. The lack of inspired commentary isn't surprising. The new unemployment numbers are largely unchanged, reflecting yet another month of just enough economic activity to keep the country humming above negative growth levels but not enough to be considered a robust recovery. But the fact that we keep getting similar, limp labor market reports is interesting in and of itself, says Anthony Randazzo, director of economic research at the Reason Foundation. Consider the headline numbers: Official unemployment (U3) was unchanged at 7.6 percent from May to June.  However, the more accurate measure of unemployment (U6) that includes workers who have recently been dropped from the labor force actually increased dramatically from 13.8 percent to 14.3 percent. In relative terms, that is a movement not seen in many, many months. This increase is an indication that the jobs created and filled over the past few months are not the type of full-time jobs that are going to get the unemployed back on their feet.

Islamist-rebel infighting calls Syrian aid into question
Excerpt: Islamist militants with links to al-Qaida attacked Free Syrian Army supply depots in northwestern Syria over the weekend in a bid to seize weapons and equipment, underscoring a growing divide between moderate and jihadist rebel forces in their shared struggle to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The increasing tension calls into question President Barack Obama’s decision to send money and weapons to Syrian opposition groups, which are now openly fighting one another as well as Assad’s regime. (Gee, who could have seen this coming? Excluding those of us who aren’t brain-dead Washington Progressive Policy Makers, of course. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: All last year, all we heard about was the Republican's "War On Women"...the specific charge?  Not being willing to publicly fund serial abortions and spend taxpayer money on birth control pills.  No groping charges, no offensive Facebook photos of their penis sent to women ... just not willing to foot the bill for an overactive sex life. Then, Congressman Anthony Weiner was caught sending pics of his penis to unsuspecting women and had to resign his House seat.  This devastated liberals because Weiner was such a champion of liberal causes, made even more tragic because his spouse was best buddies with Hillary Rotten Clinton!  How could this champion of liberal women's causes be so bestial and insensitive?

Good column: George Zimmerman's - And America's - Missed Opportunity. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: "Last Saturday evening, before the verdict was announced and in turn the public informed, I received an email from a friend who offered it was not looking good for Mr. Zimmerman; the deliberations were taking too long."

Excerpt: The February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin might never have happened if school officials in Miami-Dade County had not instituted an unofficial policy of treating crimes as school disciplinary infractions. Revelations that emerged from an internal affairs investigation explain why Martin was not arrested when caught at school with stolen jewelry in October 2011 or with marijuana in February 2012. Instead, the teenager was suspended from school, the last time just days before he was shot dead by George Zimmerman.

Good column: You Are Not Trayvon Martin: His death wasn’t about race, guns, or your pet issue. It was about misjudgment and overreaction—exactly what we’re doing now to the verdict. By William Saletan
Excerpt: But that’s how Martin ended up dead. It’s how Zimmerman ended up with a bulletproof vest he might have to wear for the rest of his life. It’s how activists and the media embarrassed themselves with bogus reports. The problem at the core of this case wasn’t race or guns. The problem was assumption, misperception, and overreaction. And that cycle hasn’t ended with the verdict. It has escalated.

Is This Still America? The political intervention in the Zimmerman case is un-American. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: More important than the fate of George Zimmerman, however, is the fate of the American justice system and of the public’s faith in that system and in their country. People who have increasingly asked during the lawlessness of the Obama administration, “Is this still America?” may feel some measure of relief.

Excerpt: A witness posted on Facebook that she saw the gang of young men chasing the victim before they caught up to him and started kicking and beating him. That witness wrote that the black males were shouting “This is for Trayvon!” as they beat the man.  If Eric Holder is still looking around for a hate crime to prosecute, Baltimore offers one.

Photo of Zimmerman's great-grandfather raises questions about racial profiling
Excerpt: CNN analyst Mark NeJame pointed to a black-and-white picture of a family of three, including a dark-skinned man he claims was Zimmerman's great-grandfather.

Black Teens Beat WI Man, Stating 'This Is For Trayvon'
Excerpt: Simpson said that a young black couple helped him: “A guy came with his girlfriend and said, ‘What the hell are you guys doing? Leave this guy alone!’ He said, ‘Don’t worry’ and he held my wrist and he said, ‘As long as I’m here, you’ll be OK.’” (There will be no response from race baiters Obama, Holder, Jackson and Sharpton on this. But if white teens beat a black man saying “this is for Chris Cervini,” the roof would fall in. The black guy who came to the rescue should get some recognition. ~Bob.)

Friends: Teen shot to death on way to visit infant daughter
He’ll be famous, but only if the shooter turns out to be white. Unlikely in Chicago. ~Bob.

Mexico captures leader of brutal Zetas cartel
Should say, “captured and shot.” The Zetas were formed as the military arm of another cartel, but decided to freelance, as ruthless people with guns often do. ~Bob.

Obama Opposed Eliminating Filibuster In 2005
Excerpt: “What they don't expect is for one party - be it Republican or Democrat - to change the rules in the middle of the game so that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.  […] The American people want less partisanship in this town, but everyone in this chamber knows that the majority chooses to end the filibuster. If they choose to change the rules and put an end to Democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse.”
Good column: Obama’s Authoritarians: Mouthing Sixties-style anti-Western slogans is the way to win the president’s heart. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Yet left-wing brutes — the Castro brothers, Che Guevara, the Eastern European puppet regimes, an array of monsters in Africa, and, later, the Ortega bunch and Hugo Chávez — were usually given a pass from commensurate scrutiny. The reasoning apparently was twofold. One, bloodthirsty liberationists gained exemption by claiming that their absolutism was in service to “equality” and “the people.” Their supposedly noble ends justified their bloody means. Two, they were charmingly anti-American.

EU Redraws Israel Borders to 1949 Lines: For the first time, the EU formally forbids trade with bodies located beyond 1949 Armistice lines, including Golan.
Excerpt: The European Union has issued orders forbidding its member states from cooperating, transferring funds, giving scholarships or research grants to bodies in Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem , and even the Golan Heights, Haaretz wrote Tuesday. The new instruction, promulgated bt the European Commission, which is the operative arm of the EU, sets parameters for cooperation between the EU and its members states, on the one hand, and Israeli governmental and private elements on the other.

Excerpt: Of all the many changes that the Obama administration has enacted over the last five years, the least remarked upon are the strange changes in our vocabulary. To fathom the shifting meaning of words, here is a guide to the new Obama lexicon.

Excerpt: Ironically, the players most actively stirring up discontent are the government and media themselves.  Their message seems to be: don’t trust government, don’t trust state legislation or the prosecutors or law enforcement — even when all of the above are substantially no one else but the agitators themselves. With Obama in the White House, Eric Holder at the Justice Department, and Angela Corey the district attorney, and the media the Media, just who exactly perverted justice? Just who exactly is the Man that one should rise up against and fight?  Mark Steyn observed that the federal government, when so minded, can convict a ham sandwich: “Today at the federal level there is a conviction rate of over 90 percent.”

The American Deep State. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The fabled military-industrial complex was a dimwitted descendant of the WW1 era Socialist notion that wars were the product of industrialists and without them, the working peoples of every country would naturally get along.  Then came WW2, which was fought between a Communist empire, a National Socialist oligarchy, a Socialist American government and a Britain that would kick out Churchill as soon as the war was over and swap him out for Labour and the Socialist dream. None of these Socialist or aspiring Socialist systems could get along.

Deconstructing Islamophobia. By Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: Consider the Muslims who in the name of Allah carried out the first WTC bombing in 1993, the bombing of theUSS Cole in 2000, the 9/11/2001 terror attacks, the 2002 Bali bombings, the 2004 Madrid bombing, the 7/7/2005 Tube and bus bombings, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, the 2009 Fort Hood terror attack, and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Then consider the families of the victims of these attacks and the people who witnessed them. Are they “Islamophobic” because they hate and fear the terrorists and the organizations that perpetrated these atrocities?

Run Guillory against Landrieu for Lousiana Senate seat. By Star Parker
Excerpt: Subsequently, Guillory explained why he, a black Democrat, would become a Republican in a video that went viral, and he continues to deliver his compelling message with such power and clarity that I cannot see how he can be ignored as a leader who should rise to national prominence. This could have practical implications for the Louisiana Senate race in 2014, where Republicans are still in search for a candidate to run against incumbent Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

Callous: the verdict on Britain's National Health Service care for the dying. By Laura Donnelly
Excerpt: Too many patients have been left facing the desperate and “terrifying prospect” of spending their final hours thirsty, with nurses even shouting at families who tried to give their loved ones water, the review led by Baroness Julia Neuberger found. A separate report by Prof Sir Bruce Keogh, the medical director for NHS England, will expose a history of failings at 14 hospital trusts with high death rates. One Tory MP claims Labour ministers received more than 1,500 alerts over the safety of care at those hospitals.

Unions Continue to Pile On Against Obamacare: We Have a Problem. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: They were for it before they were against it and now, some of the country's most powerful union leaders are expressing their full disapproval of Obamacare: 'The leaders of three major U.S. unions, including the highly influential Teamsters, have sent a scathing open letter to Democratic leaders in Congress, warning that unless changes are made, President Obama’s health care reform plan will “destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.”'

Bro-Choice: Meet the Men Who Want Abortion Legal for the Sake of More Sex
Excerpt: In case you missed the birth of the "bro-choice" movement, check it out here. In short, bro-choicers are men who want abortion, including late-term abortion, legal in order to keep their sex lives free of any responsibility.
