A lot of good (mostly) political items came in over the weekend

Well, a lot came in over the weekend as I was trying to help Bonnie get the Madison Condo squared away. My big accomplishment was getting the DVDs hooked up with the TVs. Okay, the one in the bedroom only plays in block and white, very frustration after a couple hours trying of trying every possible cable configuration twice. But this Marine trained tech now suspects a bad cable. Thanks to all who sent. With this much coming in some days, I suppose I should go back to calling it a “Political SitRep,” though I still lack the time and energy to search for items like  I did. ~Bob

Politics and the fate of mankind are shaped by men without ideals and without greatness. Men who have greatness within them don't go in for politics. –Albert Camus

Book Recommendation: Midnight in Mexico: A Reporter's Journey Through a Country's Descent into Darkness. By Alfredo Corchado
You know it’s bad in Mexico, but you don’t know how bad until you read this report by a Mexican-American reporter who loves Mexico, has covered the violence, drug cartels and corruption there for years, often at risk of his life, and despairs about Mexico’s future. A well-written personal account which should be read by every American. Given the length of the border, and a lack of will and resources, we cannot keep this from coming to the US.

To THE WHITE HOUSE - For The President. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Though not law, the President of the United States is expected to be an upstanding citizen - exemplary in thought, word, and deed. More, stout character - that emanates from a core of integrity and moral courage - is required; to carry out the Oath of Office and to do what is right by humanity and for country.

“No Talking Points” from about race problems
Five steps from a black CNN reporter.

Slow Learners: New $444 million hockey arena is still a go in Detroit
Excerpt: Detroit's financial crisis hasn't derailed the city's plans to spend more than $400 million in Michigan taxpayer funds on a new hockey arena for the Red Wings. (As Rome knew, you have to give the “headcount” [Capite censi] games and grain or they get “restive.” ~Bob.)

Excerpt: After the outcome of another election or two, Republicans might well have the chance to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare). What would they replace it with? Dylan Matthews at the Wonk Blog the other day said there has been only one serious health reform proposal on the GOP side of the aisle in recent years. It’s called the Patients’ Choice Act, sponsored by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.). This is essentially the health reform plan John McCain endorsed in 2008 ― the one that the Obama campaign spent millions of dollars attacking during the election. Matthews admits there “are real differences” between the two approaches. But he adds, “They aren’t huge ones.” He offers a chart that implies the differences are merely differences of degree, not of kind. Really? There are basically three criteria by which to judge a public policy: efficiency, equity and liberty. To what degree does the policy allow us to achieve a social objective at minimum cost? (Efficiency) To what degree does the policy treat people fairly? (Equity) And to what degree does it leave individuals free to make their own decisions? (Liberty)

George Will: Detroit doesn’t have a fiscal problem, but a ‘cultural collapse’
http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/28/george-will-detroit-doesnt-have-a-fiscal-problem-but-a-cultural-collapse/#ixzz2aRmEyS7s
Excerpt: “Can’t solve the problems because the problems are cultural,” Will said. “You have a city, 139 square miles. You can graze cattle in vast portions of it. Dangerous herds of feral dogs roam in there. You have 3 percent of fourth graders reading at the national math standards. Forty-seven percent of Detroit residents are functionally illiterate. Seventy-nine percent of Detroit children are born to unmarried mothers. They don’t have a fiscal problem, Steve. They have a cultural collapse.”

Pivot over, politics as usual: Economy not on Organizing for Action’s ‘Action August’ agenda
Excerpt: Beginning on Obama’s birthday, August 4, OFA will spend the month promoting the administration’s top issues ahead of the 2014 midterm elections: the benefits of enrolling early in Obamacare (August 4), immigration reform (August 5), climate change (August 13), gun control (August 21), and immigration reform again (August 31).

Motorcyclist turns tables on would-be robbers near Colorado Springs
Excerpt: One of the men was armed with a knife, Kramer said. The motorcyclist didn't comply with their demands. Instead, he punched the knife-wielding man and then pulled out a handgun, which he was lawfully carrying, Kramer said.

Excerpt: Largely going unnoticed this past week was Barack Obama's wield of a death blow to the remnants of reasonable military health care. As Congress forwarded to Defense Budget to the White House this week, Obama made no mention of the defense costs to move squadrons of fighters and navy destroyers into Africa to give him "extra security" during his African visit. The $100 million dollars expended to assure the comfort of Barack and Michelle and family wasn't questioned.

80 percent of organ donors' lungs are rejected, resulting in certain death for those waiting
Excerpt: Now, the University of Pennsylvania and five other medical centers are testing technology aimed at improving the situation. It involves cleaning and refurbishing donor lungs while the organ "breathes" in a specially designed machine. Lungs that would normally be discarded can be tuned up, evaluated and, in many cases, reused. (Since I’m in the market for a couple of low mileage, gently used lungs, this was of interest to me. ~Bob.)

George H.W. Bush shaves head for 2-year-old cancer patient

Col. Bud Day, Medal of Honor Recipient, dies at 88
Excerpt: Retired Col. George "Bud" Day, a Medal of Honor recipient who spent 5½ years as a POW in Vietnam and was Arizona Sen. John McCain's cellmate, has died at the age of 88, his widow said Sunday. (We were lucky to have him survive as long as he did, given the horrendous treatment his body endured as a POW. RIP, Colonel. –Del. I hope he didn’t get to hear Obama prating about how the chief torturer, Ho Chi Minh, was “inspired” by Thomas Jefferson. The people who put this country first are passing. All that will soon be left will be the Detroit-taker mobs, howling for welfare, disability and Obama phones when the money runs out. ~Bob.)

Vietnamese Americans agitate for human rights in their homeland: Vietnamese refugees in the United States and a reform party press for political change in the communist country.
Excerpt: His parent's activity with a pro-democracy group finally drew his father from the family's comfortable Garden Grove home to Vietnam, where he hoped to train residents to use nonviolent methods in lobbying for reforms. Instead, he was charged with subversion and arrested.

Hindu Women Dead & Many Hindus Injured by Muslim Mobs in Meerut for Playing Music in Temple During Ramadan
Murder during Ramadan is Halah. Music is Haram. Got it. Infidel? ~Bob.

Islamists kill 20 in Nigeria's north
Members of the Religion of Peace celebrate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. ~Bob.

Attack on Minya churches repelled by residents, security forces
Excerpt: “They threw molotov cocktails at Al-Azraa and Anba Ebram churches but were not able to break in as nearby Muslims and Christians were securing the churches,” said Ishak Ibrahim, researcher at Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR). He added that the protesters tried to storm in El-Eslah church but were prevented.

Scores killed as Egyptian security forces fire on demonstrators at Morsi rally
Excerpt: The death toll from clashes between Egyptian security forces and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi has risen to 72, the health ministry reported Sunday, as both sides appeared to harden their resolve and doubts grew about the chances for national reconciliation.

Wave of car bombings target Iraqi Shi'ites, killing 60
Excerpt: Car bombs ripped through busy streets and markets in Iraq on Monday, killing at least 60 people in predominantly Shi'ite areas in some of the deadliest violence since Sunni insurgents stepped up attacks this year. (The next Syria. Members of the Religion of Peace just can’t seem to get along. ~Bob.)

Massive jailbreak near Benghazi, Libya, lets more than 1,000 inmates free
Excerpt: More than 1,000 detainees escaped from a prison near the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi in a massive jailbreak Saturday, officials said, as protesters stormed political party offices in Libya's main cities. (And the results of Obama’s not-Congressionally-authorized war in Libya continue to pile up. ~Bob.)

LIBYA: Anti-Islamofascist protesters storm and trash Muslim Brotherhood headquarters after opposition activist was assassinated
Excerpt: “We don’t want the Brotherhood, we want the army and the police,” some protesters chanted, echoing a slogan used in Egypt. Protesters in Libyan cities stormed Islamist-affiliated party offices. In Benghazi, they invaded and set fire to a building that housed the Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing. They also burned the Muslim Brotherhood flag. (Nature abhors unbalance and will always strive to restore balance. The Arab Spring, a product of Western powers and press, and especially of the rogue Obama administration, introduced a severe unbalance in the Arab world. Libya, Egypt, Turkey and others had been conditioned for decades to a comfortable and prosperous way of life that came from a secular form of government. The Arab Spring and the attendant propaganda, much of it from the pro-Islam West, temporarily changed many Muslims' minds and brainwashed them into accepting an Islamist government. But this was not the form of government they were used to. Women had become accustomed to a modicum of freedom, education, voting rights, etc. Most had been comfortable with westernized fashions and beardlessness. People just generally don't want a bearded fanatic meddling in their private affairs, even if at bottom they are Muslims themselves. Obama and the rest of the pro-Islam West were so excited when they saw the first stirrings that they imagined they could harness this unrest to persuade people to accept an Islamic strait jacket. They were so wrapped up in their soulless project that they forgot to poll the people and take the national pulses. As usual, the world changers ran up against reality: unintended consequences (or God's hand as some would say). Now they are experiencing the backlash that any sensible person could have predicted. But the lust for power clouds the thinking of those who fancy themselves on the vanguard of history. The events in Libya are nature's attempt to restore balance. Today I saw on a European TV channel a meeting between Egyptian leaders and a representative of the EU who no doubt imagined she could persuade Egyptians to don the Shariah strait jacket again. No amount of goading, no amount of TNT falling on the heads of citizens of sovereign countries, will shepherd them into the pens of the elites again. Something has broken. Finally, let us not minimize the role of the whistleblowers in reducing the power of the elites. The utter depravity and lies of the Obama administration have been exposed, triggering a sea change everywhere. Without these courageous people putting their necks, their freedom and their jobs on the line, this restoration of the balance may eventually have happened anyway, but certainly much later. You may love or hate them, but you owe them a lot, no matter how you view it. --Don Hank)

Doctors among (six) dead in Philippines hotel blast
Excerpt: Asked who he thought was responsible for the attack, he said: “It’s hard to speculate at this time.” Muslim groups including the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have waged a guerrilla war for a separate Islamic state in Mindanao since the 1970s, a conflict that has claimed an estimated 150,000 lives. The Aquino government and the MILF signed a preliminary deal in October last year outlining the broad terms for a peace treaty that is expected to be signed before he ends his six-year term in 2016.

American Reported Killed Fighting for Al-Qaida in Syria. By John Rossomando
Excerpt: A Pittsburgh man may be the latest American killed as part of the global Muslim jihad against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The man, identified as Amir Farouk Ibrahim, 32, was reportedly killed July 22 in fighting between Syrian Kurdish forces and those linked to the Islamic State of Iraq, an al-Qaida affiliate. (Sad. Memorial Contributions may be sent to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: US drones launched the first strike in Yemen in 49 days, killing six "militants" in an attack today on a convoy in a southern town controlled by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

Accused Fort Hood shooter releases statement to Fox News. By Catherine HerridgePamela Browne
Excerpt: “My complicity was on behalf of a government that openly acknowledges that it would hate for the law of Almighty Allah to be the supreme law of the land," the 42-year-old Army psychiatrist said. Hasan then apparently asked if this was a war on Islam. "You bet it is," he said. "I participated in it.” (I'm trying to figure out how the DOD can continue to call the attack at Ft Hood "workplace violence" when Hasan has proclaimed to the world that he is a jihadist warrior, and was attacking as part of the war between Islam and the USA. I wonder how long the judge will let the charade go on, when the guy is condemned by his own words. And please Heaven, will they give him the death penalty and shoot the MFSOB? --Del)

Whistleblowers & NSA
Excerpt: According to Binney, there is substantial danger that data collected from phone and internet communications as well as financial records will be used to target particular Americans, a scenario recently played out when the IRS was caught harassing tea party members, he pointed out. Because the threat is real and the spy organization's reach well beyond its original charter, Binney said he has signed an affidavit for the Electronic Frontier Foundation's lawsuit challenging the NSA's constitutional authority to collect this kind of information. Another peril to U.S. citizens are FISA Courts (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court) which can order the transfer of domestic intelligence data but have no way of validating the intelligence being given to them, he continued.

Excerpt: The old way was to punish exclusion. The new way is to punish lack of inclusion. The punishment is also different. Rather than fines and prosecutions for those who sought to keep minorities out, the new penalty would be a withholding of federal funds from local and state government agencies dependent on HUD grants if they fail to push greater diversity.

Farrakhan Reacts to Trayvon Verdict: “We Have To Rebel Against These Tyrants”
Excerpt: In this week's installment of Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam YouTube video series, "The Time and What Must Be Done," the controversial minister uses the shooting of Trayvon Martin to argue that America was "not made" for minorities, imploring his audience to "rebel against these tyrants"--presumably the institutional forces of "white supremacy.""You are gonna have to come to the realization that the death or murder of Trayvon was a nail in the coffin of white supremacy. …We have to separate. We have to find a path, and America, you have to let the black man go." (Nothing about the death of Christopher Cervini? ~Bob.)

Edward Snowden's not the story. The fate of the internet is: The press has lost the plot over the Snowden revelations. The fact is that the net is finished as a global network and that US firms' cloud services cannot be trusted
Excerpt: The first is that the days of the internet as a truly global network are numbered. …Second, the issue of internet governance is about to become very contentious….The fact is that Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft are all integral components of the US cyber-surveillance system.

TSA Adds Extortion to List of Abuses
Excerpt: Having already established that they are intent on making your airport visit as miserable as possible, the TSA is now making it clear that they will relent, a little, if you give them money. Words like “extortion,” “Mafia,” and “legalized mugging” should all come to mind. It’s for your protection? I think the Godfather had a really similar line

Excerpt: They vowed to wage a war on voter fraud. But those officials are having a hard time finding much of an enemy to fight. State officials in key presidential battleground states, many of them Republican, have found only a tiny fraction of the illegal voters they initially suspected existed. Searches in Colorado and Florida have yielded numbers that amount to less than one-tenth of 1 percent of all registered voters in either state.

Excerpt: President Obama hailed hard-core communist revolutionary Ho Chi Minh today as a pretty open guy who was actually inspired by the Founders. Obama took a break from his jobs-pivot speeches to meet Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang at the White House. The pair held joint remarks in the Oval Office afterward. Obama said their first bilateral meeting “represents the steady progression and strengthening of the relationship between our two countries.” (So no freedom of speech, religion, press or assembly in today’s Vietnam is Jefferson’s fault? ~Bob.

Obama hosts Ramadan dinner at White House
Excerpt: Obama spoke at a White House dinner he hosted to celebrate the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The meal, or iftar, breaks the day of fasting when Muslim families and communities eat together after sunset. (Still no money for tours because, you know, sequester and deficit. ~Bob.)

Obama celebrates Ramadan: 'Islam has contributed to the character' of US
http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/313665-obama-celebrates-ramadan-with-white-house-dinner#ixzz2aLNF3OVr
Excerpt: President Obama late Thursday celebrated Ramadan with a traditional dinner in the State Dining Room, saying that throughout the nation's history, “Islam has contributed to the character of our country.” In remarks before the Iftar dinner, eaten by Muslims after sunset to end the day of fasting, Obama quoted from the Koran, according to a White House pool report. "As the Koran teaches, whoever does an atom's weight of good will see its results." (Christian? Really?….. Here is the list of the 1% invited to celebrate in the WH that is no longer open to US citizens. http://www.scribd.com/doc/156052876/Expected-Attendees-at-the-White-House-Iftar-Dinner. --Barb)

The Horrific Muslim Infiltration Of Britain
A British girl visits her home town.

Political Correctness Can Have ‘Ugly Consequences,’ says AMAC
Excerpt: Police would be unable to provide eyewitness descriptions of perpetrators under a proposed New York City law that seeks to limit profiling of suspects. “It’s an overreach that would give criminals the edge and put innocent citizens at risk, all in the name of Political Correctness,” according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens.

Excerpt: But this announcement is all about the midterm elections. Obama wants the House back, and the Justice Department is again being turned into a political weapon using the cloak of civil rights. …Because Democratic interests are so perfectly aligned with the civil rights establishment — in no small measure because of extreme bloc voting by American blacks — the DOJ is now an arm of the DNC.

Will Justice Outlast the Trayvon Martin Hysteria? If President Obama gets his way, he'll turn our lives into a game of survival horror.
Excerpt: I thought of Outlast after considering last week’s remarks by President Obama which he offered in response to the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial. Predictably, the president chose to amplify the narrative that the black community was somehow owed a conviction. The threat to liberty posed by our nation’s highest executive suggesting that a criminal case ought to be decided not on the facts, but to satisfy a subjective sense of racial justice, cannot be overstated.

Excerpt: Two days after the National Security Agency’s PRISM program made headlines, President Obama’s Change.gov campaign website underwent a stealth makeover. The Sunlight Foundation noticed the change after June 8th. That was the last time that this Obama promise and others saw the light of day on on the president’s website…. Just like that, Obama no longer promises to protect those who blow the whistle on government misdeeds.

Benghazi Survivor David Ubben coming forward
Excerpt: Moreover, Ubben, whose right leg was essentially shredded, has now come forward and told some of his story to Fox News. There are hopes that he may testify in front of Congress. Perhaps one of the most shocking revelations in this story is that after Ubben was hit, he waited at the Annex for twenty hours before help arrived. (Oh, “phony.” Just another bump in the road to global Caliphate. The above link has the Video. –Barb)

Supreme Court shutouts reveal reckless decisions
Excerpt: But we might do well to pay more attention where the court rules unanimously, particularly when they go against the White House. When a president pursues policies that require such expansive federal power that he can't get a single justice to agree, something is probably amiss…. When presidents routinely claim sweeping powers that every Supreme Court justice rejects, something is wrong.

Canadian Terrorist to be Deported from Mauritania Back to Canada
Excerpt: A 24-year-old Canadian who has been held in a Mauritanian prison since December 2011 on terror-related charges, has been released and will be deported to Canada soon, the CBC reported. The man, Aaron Yoon, was sentenced to two years in prison last July after being convicted of having ties to an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group that operates in the North African region and of posing a danger to Mauritanian national security.

PA daily says official US invite to talks will include ’1967 lines’ despite official Israeli stance
Has Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu agreed to negotiations based on the 1949 armistice line, despite previous claims to the contrary? According to Palestinian Authority-based media outlets, the official invites to Israel-PA talks, which will be sent by the United States, are to include a statement that the talks will be based on the “1967 lines” with possible territorial swaps. The report was carried by both Al-Ayyam and Al-Hayat. (Gee, guess who else will be with the Christians in the stadiums? Déjà vu WWII, only it’s WWIII. –Barb)

Bennett: Terrorists Should be Killed, Not Released
Excerpt: Economy Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Saturday night that he would vote against the release of 104 terrorist prisoners, a demand by the Palestinian Authority in order to start peace negotiations. Bennett said that he has also instructed all the ministers from the Bayit Yehudi to vote against the release as well. The ministers will vote on the release on Sunday morning. (Maybe POTUS wants drone practice? –Barb)

‘Why Hunt Down German Nazis, but Release Muslim Nazis?’ Father whose wife and three young children were killed by terrorists doesn’t understand Israel’s approach to murderers.
Excerpt: “Why does the Weisenthal Center track down Nazis who murdered Jews, while here we have Muslim Nazis who murdered Jews, who spilled blood as if it were water, who burned a mother and three children and an unborn baby alive – and they are released? Is there a difference between them and the Nazis criminals?” he asked, quoting Rabbi Weiss. Holtzberg burst into tears as he recalled the funeral for Rachel Weiss and her children. The four were killed when terrorists hurled a firebomb at a bus full of civilians, setting it on fire.

Excerpt: Do you think you have freedom to educate your child as you, the parent, sees fit? Do you look to the State for educational development/delivery for your child or have you selected private/homeschool options? …. The state not only controls the public development/direction of education, it will also control both private/homeschool educational development/ direction. (Refers to AL but FL has big “initiative” too…Barb)

Military Chaplain Being Punished For Speaking About God
Excerpt:….According to Ken Klukowski: “As reported by Fox News’s Todd Starnes, when Reyes referenced this famous line in his essay, the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) contacted the base commander, Col. Brian Duffy, demanding he take action on Reyes’s ‘anti-secular diatribe.’ MRFF’s letter says that by Reyes’s ‘use of the bigoted, religious supremacist phrase, ‘no atheists in foxholes,’ he defiles the dignity of service members.’ They accuse him of violating military regulations.” Further, the MRFF wants Reyes to be punished: “Faith based hate, is hate all the same…Lt. Col. Reyes must be appropriately punished.” (If football is too dangerous, regime can recycle all these stadiums by feeding Christians to animals for regime sport. What year is this? Long for the days of MASH TV when the chaplain was understood, his role important and honored. PC has led to this. America is restricting its cherished freedoms with a regime hell-bent to match the control of China on personal freedom of citizens. –Barb)

Obama Assigns Job Of Gun Confiscation To…
Excerpt: For this reason, Barack Obama has decided to remove 2nd Amendment rights from the realm of politics and constitutional guarantee by transforming the question of gun violence into an issue of public health. On January 26th, Obama issued Exec Order # 14, a “Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.” … “Public health’s role is to reduce these firearm injuries and deaths.”

Excerpt: Just about every economic study over the last half century has shown that raising the minimum wage almost always leads to lower employment rates. So, while it's no surprise that our "business-challenged" President is proposing a $9.00 federal minimum wage rate, I'm still taken aback that so many ordinary Americans don't get it. And Washington D.C. sure doesn't get it as two weeks ago that ghetto demanded that Walmart pay $12.50 an hour or get the hell out....which is just what Walmart is doing at a loss to D.C of thousands of jobs. (As Dr. Thomas Sowell points out, most people are unable to think to Stage Two, the results of the policy. ~Bob.)

Many people will never know what hit them. By Douglas J. Hagmann
Excerpt: The Examiner article quoted “The Guerrilla Economist™” as follows:
“Deutsche Bank. Big bank. Biggest bank in Germany, and one of the biggest banks in the Euro Zone… they’re going to go belly up. Watch it. Watch it, I said it, it’s going to happen. They are in such a danger zone, they don’t know what to do. Deutsche Bank’s derivative debt is greater than the global economy. That is one bank. $72 trillion in derivative exposure. The entire global economy, all the countries in the world is only $66 trillion GDP.” (If true, this will wreck the world economy, including us. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: “This is for George Zimmerman.” That’s what one of three white men told a black man as they approached him early Saturday in Washington before committing what police are saying may be a hate crime, according to Metropolitan Police Officer Anthony Clay. The men kicked the man, who was not identified, as they took his iPhone and wallet, the officer said Sunday, according to CNN.

A few good things on a Tuesday

University of California: The Bubble of Bureaucracy
Excerpt: While the nomination of Janet Napolitano, the secretary of the Homeland Security Department, as the next chancellor of the University of California may have been a surprise, it isn't a comedown. The system has almost 240,000 students and an operating budget that exceeds $24 billion, almost triple the state budget of Arizona, for example…Yet UC's annual spending exceeds that of most state governments -- amounting to roughly $100,000 for each of its students. Much of this is unrelated to instructional function. The university's bureaucracy is famously monumental, centralized and costly:

Pentagon Lays Out Options for U.S. Military Effort in Syria
Excerpt: The Pentagon has provided Congress with its first detailed list of military options to stem the bloody civil war in Syria, suggesting that a campaign to tilt the balance from President Bashar al-Assad to the opposition would be a vast undertaking, costing billions of dollars, and could backfire on the United States. (That won’t stop the idiots in Congress and the media from waving their hands in the air and screaming, “Do Something!” ~Bob.)

Congressional panels approve arms aid to Syrian opposition
Excerpt: The House and Senate intelligence committees have approved CIA weapons shipments to opposition fighters in Syria, allowing the Obama administration to move ahead on the stalled program, senior congressional and administration officials said Monday. (Nothing surer than that some of these weapons will be used eventually to kill Americans, Israelis and other kuffer. ~Bob.)

Just Fricken Beautiful: Iraq jailbreak highlights al-Qaeda affiliate’s ascendancy
Excerpt: Hundreds of extremists were feared to be on the run in Iraq on Monday after al-Qaeda’s affiliate in the country launched a major assault on the infamous Abu Ghraib prison, offering a fresh boost to the group’s resurgent fortunes in Iraq and in Syria. (If you're wondering, no, no one has ever escaped Guantanamo Bay. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt.)

Al Qaeda is alive and Detroit is dead.

Report Finds Gradual Fall in Female Genital Cutting in Africa
Excerpt: In Egypt, for example, where more women have been cut than in any other nation, survey data showed that 81 percent of 15- to 19-year-olds had undergone the practice, compared with 96 percent of women in their late 40s. (No foreign aid to any country where more than 20% of the girls are “cut.” End the Muslim War on Women, supported by liberals. ~Bob.)

Truth, Ethos, & A Reply to Comment on - 'A Public Letter to the Commandant of the Marine Corps'. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Today's commentary could easily have been written as a personal but public follow-on to my public letter, published a month ago yesterday, to our commandant. But I opted to craft it otherwise as the greater audience of Marines, friends of Marines, and the public seemed more fitting as addressee; the Commandant of the Marine Corps one amongst us. Perhaps he will read.

Detroit. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: No, Seriously, A Giant Pile of Money Would Not, In Fact, Help Detroit. Not Really, Anyway Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that there's talk of a federal bailout for Detroit. It's a terrible idea, but we shouldn't be surprised by it. What is surprising is that the advocates are so blithe about how little a bailout would fix. Really. Let's assume the federal government didn't have $16 trillion in debt and had an extra $18 billion lying around. Assume that the whole country had a bipartisan spirit of generosity, eager to help out a city that had, for years, gone to a domed stadium on Thanksgiving Day to watch their football team lose to some visiting team. Once Washington writes a check to Detroit to cover the city's $18 billion in debt . . . then what? You still have the same moribund economy, the same 78,000 abandoned structures, the same two-thirds of ambulances not in service, the same failing schools, the same shrinking population, the same shameful police response time, the same terrifying violent-crime rate, the same 40 percent of street lights not working . . . and likely, the same failed leaders, with the same failed philosophies and viewpoints that got the city in this mess in the first place. Conservatives outside the city like to point to it as decades of liberal policies run amok, but let's be fair: They can't even get liberalism right. Nearly half of the owners of Detroit's 305,000 properties failed to pay their tax bills in 2011. It's the trifecta of liberal policies and incompetence and corruption that set up the city as a vortex of urban failure so intolerable that almost anyone who could afford to leave did. The city has to change — the question is what kind of change the remaining residents collectively embrace. They need to give people who live elsewhere a reason to live there: If you bring back residents, you'll bring back customers, who will bring back businesses, who will bring back jobs. That virtuous cycle will bring back the tax base, putting money back into the city's coffers so it can finally afford all those things it got used to buying back when one bondholder after another kept buying their municipal bonds.

19 U.S. cities have proportionately bigger workforces than bankrupted Detroit

Car Rescues: Zimmerman 1, Kennedy 0

If only Zimmerman had rescued a black lesbian illegal immigrant on her way to get an abortion, MSNBC would have imploded.

Facing Facts about Race: Young black males are at greater risk from their peers than from the police or white civilians. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Is it ethical for the president to weigh in on a civil-rights case apparently being examined by his own Justice Department? The president knows that if it is true that African-American males are viewed suspiciously, it is probably because statistically they commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime. If that were not true, they might well be given no more attention as supposed suspects than is accorded to white, Asian, or Latino youths. Had George Zimmerman been black, he would have been, statistically at least, more likely to have shot Trayvon Martin — and statistically likewise less likely to have been tried.

Excerpt: Last week Detroit became the largest city in American history to declare bankruptcy. Last year, five California cities, burdened by an upsurge in illegal Mexican residents, also declared bankruptcy. In Detroit's case the road to bankruptcy began fifty years ago when Blacks started burning down their five year old public housing projects in order to voice their disdain for Lyndon Johnson's Great Society programs. The explosive Black crime rates drove White tax-paying, law-abiding residents out of the city and into the suburbs and elsewhere. The flight of Whites from Detroit cleared the way for Blacks to take control of city and county government. And, as the years passed, these corrupt Black leaders pilfered from public funds to pad their own bank accounts and those of their conspirators. Soon one Black mayor after another was caught, sent to prison, only to have the Black populace elect another crook to run the place.

What President Obama Left Out of His Talk on Race. By Bernard Goldberg
Excerpt: What the president did not do is examine these humiliations from the view of the wary shop owner, or the frightened people in the car, or the suspicious woman on the elevator. What they all know is that young black men commit a disproportionate amount of crime in this country. That's why they're suspicious of African American males of a certain age. Black people know this too, since they're the ones most likely to be victimized by young black men. It's worth repeating Jesse Jackson's observation of some years back about race. "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved."

KKK turns in man who threatens Obama! FBI arrests two men accused of plotting to kill Barack Obama 'with home-made X-ray weapon'
Excerpt: In August 2012, Mr Crawford travelled to North Carolina to request funding for his plan from a top official in the Ku Klux Klan, of which he claimed to be a member. The KKK informed the FBI, which sent two undercover agents posing as KKK members to meet Mr Crawford.

D.C. Politicos block Walmart, help special interest, hurt the poor. By Star Parker
Excerpt: Why, when there is no question that nothing has created more wealth and eradicated more poverty than capitalism, do left wing politicians hate it so much? After all, it’s supposed to be the left that cares about the poor. The latest chapter in this ongoing saga of economic perversity is action being taken in Washington, DC, to prevent Walmart from opening stores there.

The Eagle has Landed. By Daniel Greenfield.
Excerpt: No one who was born after 1935 has walked on the moon. That period is swiftly becoming a historical relic. A thing that men did who lived long ago.

What will give Egypt’s ruler ‘legitimacy’?
Does legitimacy arise purely from how a leader is elected, or from how he or she governs once in office? How big does a crowd of protesters have to be to indicate an elected leader is no longer the voice of his people? When do self-interested or authoritarian policy decisions go so far as to invalidate the mandate of an elected government? (Though long, this is a fine piece of journalism—so fine, I’m surprised it turned up in the Boston Globe. Reading it online may be a pain in the ass due to the Globe’s ads, but the author has identified the problem correctly though he offers no solutions. This is also a possible explanation of why so many leftists expect to be able to “rule by fiat” once an election has been won, regardless of how large or small the majority. Though the left they claim to want to protect “minorities”—as long as they either agree with or can ignore them—they HATE minorities that disagree with them and that cannot be ignored (like us, for example). The beauty of our Constitution is that the rights of minorities ARE protected from abuse by the majority. I seem to recall Robert Heinlein once suggested that law should only be passed if they had a majority of three quarters or more, and that laws should be repealed if 40% of those voting opposed it, because anything opposed by that large a minority was obviously a problem. --Ron P.)

Anthony Weiner Confirms Authenticity Of New Sex Chats
Excerpt: Nightlife site "The Dirty" posted images of conversations that allegedly came from Weiner to a 22-year-old woman under the pseudonym "Carlos Danger."

Obama Throws Blacks the Trayvon Race Bone. By Crystal Wright (Conservative Black Chick)
Excerpt: President Barack Obama using the White House Press Briefing Room July 19, 2013 to speak about Trayvon Martin’s killing was beneath the office of the presidency. Did the four Americans slain by terrorists in Benghazi get this much attention from Obama? More like avoidance. Since when did the death of one black teen rise to the level of a national crisis? Since the race hucksters and pimps like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson decided it so and Obama obliged.

Quants: The maths geniuses running Wall Street [Fake tweet plunges Dow Jones 140 points and wipes out $200 billion in capital].  Sarfraz Mansoor
Excerpt: A few minutes later the report [a fake tweet that Obama had been injured by explosions in the White House] was exposed as a hoax and the markets quickly returned to their pre-tweet levels. But, to many, the idea that one fake tweet could have such an enormous impact on the financial markets was incredible. Who was running Wall Street?

Some interesting things that came in over the weekend

While I was unpacking boxes of books and clothes, friends sent me several interesting items over the weekend. ~Bob

Excerpt: George Zimmerman could have been my son. Whites justifiably are cautious around young Black men. Since Blacks, with only 12% of the population, commit over 50% of all crime, when we see and read some of the most heinous, violent crime reports in the newspapers, when we see as group of them mob-rob convenience stores, we become cautious when we come into the company of young Blacks, especially if they are dressed like thugs. When I read of three Black thugs who killed a 90 year old White World War II vet, then turn and rape his 90 year old wife, and in the same week as the Trayvon Martin incident, I immediately question Trayvon's character. (George Zimmerman is changing his name to Ben Ghazi so no one will ever hear of him again. -LLW)

Married father of two, another sicko rape 16-year-old prostitute and toss her from roof of a three-story Brooklyn apartment building, sources say
I'm sure this will bump TRAYVON off the front burner. - LLW

Black woman (44) charged with burning 12-year-old white boy to death with blow torch
Sure, he could have been me 55 years ago. But never mind—tell me more about Trayvon, Mr. President. ~Bob.

Excerpt: In particular, I wish I could have found room to discuss the case of John Harris White, the black man who shot and killed an unarmed white teen. White had testified that he had grown up hearing stories about his grandfather being terrorized by the KKK and he thought the white teens in his New York yard were a lynch mob. He also claimed that the gun went off accidentally. White was convicted of manslaughter, but after six months his sentence was commuted by then-governor David Patterson in one of his last acts of office.

The Downfall of Detroit: It took only six decades of “progressive” policies to bring a great city to its knees. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: To achieve this level of devastation, you usually have to be invaded by a foreign power. In the War of 1812, when Detroit was taken by a remarkably small number of British troops without a shot being fired, Michigan’s Governor Hull was said to have been panicked into surrender after drinking heavily. Two centuries later, after an almighty 50-year bender, the city surrendered to itself. … Forty-seven percent of adults are functionally illiterate, which is about the same rate as the Central African Republic, which at least has the excuse that it was ruled throughout the Seventies by a cannibal emperor.

McCain: Obama’s Trayvon Comments ‘Very Impressive’
Excerpt: If there are any conservatives who still supported McCain, they should be all gone now with these comments. He basically just needs to switch his party and quit insulting the Republican name.

Excerpt: Unnerved by an unspoken mix of political bias and racial queasiness, the major media have chosen to know as little about Trayvon Martin as they know about Barack Obama. … Trayvon, in fact, had become a devotee of the druggy concoction known as "Lean," also known in southern hip-hop culture as "Sizzurp" and "Purple Drank." Lean consists of three basic ingredients -- codeine, a soft drink, and candy. (Arizona Watermelon Drink, Skittles and ? A kid buying a drink and candy or 2/3 of an addictive formulation? Private Gun Buyback Program Redistributes Guns To The Poor And Unarmed. By Philip Hodges
Excerpt: Here’s a buyback program we could all support. It’s actually less of a gun buyback and more of a gun giveaway. The organization is called the Armed Citizen Project. They’re working on becoming a 501(c)(3) organization, but that could take a while since they’re a conservative, gun-rights group. We know how the IRS likes to take their time with those types of people. (Wow, what a great idea. This ought to have the antigun people foaming at the mouth and chewing on the carpet. I wonder how many weapons they can really recycle to people. --Del)

Excerpt: I’ve been struggling with this article for several days now. Primarily because I didn’t want to write anything about Trayvon Martin or George Zimmerman or the racial tension we’ve been having lately. Nonetheless, I find myself compelled. I’ve never been one to ignore the elephant in the room, and to do so now would be inconsistent and dishonest on my part.

“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”
― Booker T. Washington. (Heard this quoted by Allen West the other day on the radio. Gee, does this sound familiar? –Barb.)

Still More False Claims About ObamaCare
Excerpt: "Millions of Americans opened letters from their insurance companies," Obama said, and "were pleasantly surprised with a check." Not exactly. An AP fact check of Obama's talk found almost all those checks went to employers who provide health benefits to their employees, and who didn't have to pass them on to workers. (Just a summary of several of the articles I've sent out before. Nice to have the information piling up. Maybe, gradually, more people who really believed the hype will be disillusioned, and really upset about it in time for the 2014 election. --Del)

6 changes that would improve Obamacare. By Diana Furchtgott-Roth
Excerpt: Now that President Obama has delayed the employer penalty for not providing health insurance until 2015, as well as the requirement that people applying for health insurance on the exchanges provide verification of income, Congress should also postpone the individual mandate and other provisions of the bill. This would give lawmakers the opportunity to consider a technical corrections bill to improve some aspects of the Affordable Care Act.

Gingrich: Gangs Increased 40 Since Obama Elected

Excerpt: "Gangs have increased by 40 percent since this president was elected," Gingrich said. "There is no federal program to stop it. No one wants to have an honest conversation about it. You have a congressman whose own district is bleeding, who puts on a hoodie as a symbolic act, but he doesn’t do anything about the gangs in his own district."

Obama Stirs Trayvon Pot to Distract from IRS, NSA, DOJ and Benghazi Scandals
http://clashdaily.com/2013/07/obama-stirs-trayvon-pot-to-distract-from-irs-nsa-doj-and-benghazi-scandals/
Excerpt: Look, I don’t fault Obama for stirring the Trayvon pot again. Hell, I would have if I were in his shoes. “Why”, you ask? Well, it’s pretty simple folks: it takes everyone’s attention off the Mama June-sized scandals he’s boiling in right now, that’s why.

Five family members shot in a New York park after daughter files police complaint against thugs who threw a milkshake in her face
Excerpt: Five members of a family in Brooklyn, New York were shot in what appears to be retaliation for a harassment incident at a local McDonald's. 45-year-old Ronaldo Pizarro had helped his 18-year-old daughter file a police report after she was harassed by a group of young men while working at her job at McDonald's. … Police have not yet made any arrests or released a description of the shooter or shooters. (OK, so Pizarro is probably Hispanic. Wonder what color the “young men” (don’t you love the propaganda instead of “hoodlums”?) are? Anyone want to place a bet? I mean, the POTUS has gone from race baiting with “This could have been my son” to “This could have been me” to make folks retrospective. Anyone still harboring the delusion that POTUS cares about the US and that his goal is to destroy? –Barb)

Saudi Arabian Airlines Defends Discrimination Against Israelis
Excerpt: De Blasio condemned the Saudi airline’s decision not to allow Israelis on board and said that it was “racial discrimination.” He warned that he would work to ensure the Saudi airlines does not land in American airports. “No city in the world has closer ties to Israel than we do, and yet Israeli citizens are being discriminated against right here at JFK [airport]. It’s not only illegal; it’s an affront to who we are,” De Blasio said, according to the New York Post.

Jerry Brown Stands Atop California's Collapsing House Of Cards
Excerpt: Jerry Brown, soon to be California’s longest-serving Governor, is obsessed with his legacy. Legacies, however, are judged retrospectively. For now, Brown has been receiving much credit nationally for “balancing” the budget. In truth, the budget is not really balanced and Brown is setting California up to fall like a house of cards. (It's supposed to be really great, well on the rebound, and looking bright for the future. At least, that's how it's been presented in the media recently. But hey, when someone bothers to really look closely at the man behind the curtain, they find out that what's projected on the screen and what is really on the scene are very, very much in contrast. Detroit is trying to go bankrupt, and I keep thinking that California cannot be too far behind. Or will the state get a bailout from Mr. Obama? After all, the votes went his way in CA in the last election. I keep wondering how the sensible people living in California manage to avoid continuous worries about what will happen when it really, seriously hits the fan. [Canned goods and ammo? And a good water supply, after all, it is mostly a desert.] --Del)

Hidden Consequences of the Employer Mandate Delay. By Elizabeth Lee Vliet, M.D.
Excerpt: Obamacare is a hodgepodge of new regulations, requirements, and penalties. I'd like to start by defining three terms which, while obscure today, should begin to enter our everyday vocabulary as Obamacare continues to take effect: … Why delay one component of Obamacare and not the others? More specifically, why delay the employer mandate but not the individual mandate? To answer that question, we must first understand this fact: Obama wants a single-payer healthcare system in the US. This is not a secret: (Here is a really great presentation by a doctor on all the stuff of "what's in it" that we so desperately need to know. She has gone into the important aspects of implementation line by line. Read this and get very nervous about how things will be shaking out in the next 12 months or so. Why delay the Employer Mandate? Because it will hit people so hard that there will be a real swell of upset and disappointment in the ACA and that would be bad for the Democrats running for office in 2014. The real question is how can he delay this part of the plan, which is actually a law. The President cannot just decide to put laws into abeyance at his whim, for political purposes. But apparently no one is going to challenge him on this. He has often said "I am not a dictator". Methinks he doth protest too much. --Del)

What It Means To Be White In America
Excerpt: Let’s have a discussion about race. Not a one-sided harangue, but a two-way discussion. Let’s move beyond the politically correct “Whites are racists, blacks are victims” and actually talk things out. You do that by hearing both sides. (This guy will be pilloried for being racist by many people, Black and White, who read this column. But what's important to keep in mind is his paragraph near the end where he says that both he and Mr. Obama are partially right and partially wrong in their comments about race, because of the basis from which the comments were made. He is making the point that by and large we don't have a real public conversation about the problems of race in America, mostly we hear harangues and condemnations of Whites from the viewpoint of some Blacks. And this is really not productive, in fact, it just contributes to keeping racial tensions high. Yes, there is racism among some Whites, and there certainly is racism among some Blacks. Until everyone admits that racism can be found among all groups, and everyone needs to be honest about it and condemn it universally, we won't be making much progress in really decreasing its incidence overall. --Del)

'Bash mobs' sweep through Southern California
Excerpt: Organized "bash mob" crime rampages of roving groups attacking innocent people and businesses have been striking cities around the United States. Law enforcement agencies in Southern California have reported few similar problems -- until now. In the last several days, there have been several reports of such group crime waves in South L.A., Hollywood, San Bernardino and Victorville. Long Beach police are bracing for another one Friday. (This stuff has been going on at varying levels for well over a year now, with one variant being the "Knockout Game", and the other one the flash mobs that swarm into stores to wreak havoc and steal. Most of the time the media faithfully avoid any description of the race of the people involved. In this article, keep reading until later on when a prayer vigil is mentioned, and then, finally, a trial verdict. After that, maybe there's a slight chance that a person could make an accurate guess about who is involved. Of course, only a racist would notice. --Del)

Restoring plain and civil speech to politics. By Dr. Benjamin S. Carson Sr.
Excerpt: Proponents of political correctness say it is a way that we can be kind and courteous to everyone, but they need to recognize that it is quite possible to be respectful without imposing an unspoken law that is antithetical to one of the founding principles of our nation — namely, freedom of expression and freedom of speech. Political correctness, which is vigorously enforced by much of the news media and many of our educational institutions, imposes a code of silence that prevents discussion of game-changing alterations of our fundamental social pillars. (A great commentary on PC and how it amounts to gagging everyone about important subjects that deserve and need open, honest discussion. [I think this man should run for office.] --Del)

Excerpt: George Zimmerman, who has not been seen publicly since being acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin earlier this month, surfaced last week to rescue an unidentified driver trapped in an overturned truck in Florida, police said Monday. Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe told Fox News that Zimmerman, 29, was identified by a crash victim as the man who pulled him from the mangled vehicle last week. “George Zimmerman pulled me out,” firefighters were told by the unidentified driver, according to McAuliffe. (With Zimmerman’s luck, the media will say the guy he rescued was the Grand Dragon of the local Klan. ~Bob.)

Then-Sen. Obama co-sponsored ‘stand your ground’ law in 2004 in Illinois
Excerpt: President Obama may currently be calling on the states to review their respective “stand your ground” gun laws, but he wasn’t always so opposed to the right-to-carry rule. In 2004, while a senator in Illinois, he co-sponsored legislation that allowed for the same rights.

Illinois awarded $4.2 million federal bonus for ‘only’ misspending $52 million on food stamps

Obama's Off-teleprompter Race Speech. By Kevin Jackson
Excerpt: The fact is most of the black people who experienced the racism of Democrats of the '50s and '60s are dead. But that hasn't stopped Liberal institutions, like media and academia from reminding young black kids of that past, and making young white kids feel guilt for the past. Academia teaches younger blacks how to exploit the idea of racism of whites, and guilt trips whites into thinking it is racist to notice the vastly disproportionate crime committed by young black males.

Embattled IRS chief counsel met with Obama 2 days before agency changed targeting criteria
http://dailycaller.com/2013/07/22/embattled-irs-chief-counsel-met-with-obama-2-days-before-writing-new-targeting-criteria/
Excerpt: The Obama appointee implicated in congressional testimony in the IRS targeting scandal met with President Obama in the White House two days before offering his colleagues a new set of advice on how to scrutinize tea party and conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status. IRS chief counsel William Wilkins, who was named in House Oversight testimony by retiring IRS agent Carter Hull as one of his supervisors in the improper targeting of conservative groups, met with Obama in the Roosevelt Room of the White House on April 23, 2012.

25 Facts About The Fall Of Detroit That Will Leave You Shaking Your Head
Excerpt: She ruled that Detroit's bankruptcy filing violates the Michigan Constitution because it would result in reduced pension payments for retired workers. She also stated that Detroit's bankruptcy filing was "also not honoring the (United States) president, who took (Detroit’s auto companies) out of bankruptcy", and she ordered that a copy of her judgment be sent to Barack Obama. How "honoring the president" has anything to do with the bankruptcy of Detroit is a bit of a mystery, but what that judge has done is ensured that there will be months of legal wrangling ahead over Detroit's money woes.

An Honest Conversation About Race
Excerpt: Unlike President Obama, who tried to say he could have been Trayvon Martin 35 years ago, I actually grew up in a rough part of New York. By the time I was 17, I had seen racism and bigotry from a perspective Obama could never have experienced. I’m a “white Hispanic.” For most of my childhood I lived in a predominantly black neighborhood in Queens called Jamaica. I was the “minority.”

They could have been Barack Obama, 30 years ago. Before he had men with guns to protect his family. ~Bob
