The latest news

Listening to the local news as I dressed for work, hoping for a weather report, I heard a commentator ask, “What could be the reason behind the senseless violence at the mall in Kenya?” Gee, the murderers asked the people if they were Muslim and if they could recite a Muslim prayer. If so, they let them go, but murdered the Christians. So I’m guessing, you know, workplace violence. And folks wonder why I watch little TV. ~Bob

How Economic Freedom Promotes Better Health Care, Education and Environmental Quality
Excerpt: Economic freedom and prosperity go hand in hand with improved health and health care, better education, and a cleaner environment, say James M. Roberts, a research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, and Ryan Olson, a research assistant at the Center for International Trade and Economics. Instead of the coercive monopolization of health care through expensive and inefficient government programs, economic freedom can be applied to achieve positive health care outcomes by: Eliminating barriers by removing subsidies and repealing laws that prevent individuals from purchasing health care services from market-based sources. Increasing competition among bidders to help reduce cost trend and encourage innovation. Decentralizing regulations, allowing for health care plans that fit the customer.

The Affordable Care Act Is Not So Affordable
Excerpt: The public relations battle over the cost of health insurance in the exchanges is in full roar. State insurance commissioners and health insurance exchange boards, eager to prove to taxpayers that they are doing their jobs, have announced that they will save consumers plenty of money -- or at least not cost them too much more. Critics of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) dig into the rate filings and find unconscionable increases in premiums, says Joseph Antos, the Wilson H. Taylor Scholar in Health Care and Retirement Policy at the American Enterprise Institute.

I GUESS I’M DOOMED: Rangel says you’re going to hell if you don’t support food stampshttp://clashdaily.com/2013/09/guess-im-doomed-rangel-says-youre-going-hell-dont-support-food-stamps/
Excerpt: New York Representative Charlie Rangel is an absolute beacon of morality. Holding himself to the highest ethical and spiritual standards, he has built a political career on a foundation of honor, charity, and good will. So, when he issues a proclamation claiming that Republicans who try to scale back government programs are headed to Hell, they’d better listen. (Blowhards squared, see video --JB)

Syrian Rebel Alliance Rejects Western-Backed Leaders
Show me your shocked face. ~Bob. Excerpt: An alliance of Syrian rebels, including a U.S.-designated terrorist group and several Western-backed factions, rejected the leadership of a main Syrian political opposition body and called for a unified Islamic rebel structure. The statement, signed late Tuesday by some of the most powerful Islamist factions in the Syrian rebel insurgency, threatens to undercut international attempts to organize the political opposition, to isolate extremists from rebels that receive Western funding, training and arms and to move both toward peace talks with the regime.

Some politically-active youth don't like to sweat the details. By Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt
Excerpt: Back when Obama was pushing for military action in Syria, a significant chunk of his base opposed the idea, and another, even larger chunk was just plain quiet. Organizing for Action was notably muted. Obama's grassroots army appears powerful and easy to mobilize, as long as the motivation is "give us free stuff" -- i.e. "free" health care, "free" birth control, "free" Obamaphones, etc. But is it that they're only stirred by asking what their country can do for them, not what they can do for their country? Is it that Obama has built a large, activist base that will show up and attend rallies and knock on doors and vote, but only if it is promised some sort of tangible goodie at the end of the process? For better or worse, that's not what fuels our movement. The conservative message doesn't include free ice cream. Our message is pretty relentlessly that we expect you to take care of yourself, and only turn to government or society as a whole in dire emergencies:

Excerpt: Perhaps even worse, the Democrats have been allowed to rhetorically bury their Bull Connors, their longstanding affiliation with the Ku Klux Klan, and their pitiless opposition to practically every major piece of civil-rights legislation for a century. Republicans may not be able to make significant inroads among black voters in the coming elections, but they would do well to demolish this myth nonetheless. … In Congress, Johnson had consistently and repeatedly voted against legislation to protect black Americans from lynching. As a leader in the Senate, Johnson did his best to cripple the Civil Rights Act of 1957;

Islamist War on Christians: Each time Islamists murder Christians, the media treat it as an isolated episode. By Lee Habeeb
Excerpt: I’m waiting. I am a Lebanese Christian, and I am waiting. Waiting for CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, orTime magazine to really tell the story. To finally run this headline: “War on Christians Being Waged by Islamists.”

Obama’s ‘Stable’ New World: A Middle East In Flames. By Joseph Klein
Excerpt: Presumably, the reference to American exceptionalism, a notion which Obama himself has pooh-poohed in the past, was meant as a rebuke to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent New York Times op-ed column in which Putin had offered his critique of this idea.

Saddam’s Ticking Time Bomb. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: In 1992, Al Gore accused President George Bush of “a dangerous blindness to the murderous ambitions of a despot.” Eight years later, the Democratic Party platform proclaimed, “As President, Al Gore will not hesitate to use America’s military might against Iraq.” Three years later, the Democratic Party, which had initiated the most aggressive military action against Iraq since the Gulf War and whose leading lights had repeatedly pledged to get tough on Saddam, had reinvented themselves as the anti-war party.

Stupidity Is The Root Of Our Ruin
Excerpt: There is an astounding volume of stupidity in the world. One would like to believe that all of our education, parenting, social interactions, and philosophizing would combine to make us intelligent. I’m not even suggesting genius level intelligence, merely basic logical intelligence. However, our society continues to breed ignorance, and it just so happens that many of the most ignorant in our world get featured on TV

Good Analysis: The Westgate Mall Attack and the Future of Terrorism
Excerpt: Westgate represented a more limited target set than Mumbai, but the attack was based on the same principles. Like Mumbai, the death toll in Nairobi was high, the target was a prominent public place important to the economy and to tourists, and the assault dragged on for days. Securing the targets in both Mumbai and Nairobi in advance would have been difficult because efforts to protect them from attack would likely also make them onerous to enter, thus cutting against their very purpose.

Why Obama’s big U.N. speech on Syria was so awkwardly inconsistent. By Max FisherWashington Post
Excerpt: There were two contradictions in Obama's comments to the United Nations on Syria. The first was with the Obama of General Assemblies past, who espoused a very different view of the war and how to handle it. Previously, Obama had not advocated any of the military and diplomatic actions that, today, he declared so vital that failing to pursue them could undermine the legitimacy of the United Nations itself.

Stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks of us, and start making the rest of the world worry about what we think of them.

Admiral Reasserts possibility Benghazi about Blind Sheikh
Excerpt: On September 16th, Accuracy in Media (AIM) held a conference with the Citizens Commission on Benghazi (CCB), which was comprised of several retired, decorated military and intelligence officials. One such official was four-star Admiral James “Ace” Lyons, who reiterated his belief that the 9/11/12 attack in Benghazi was possibly about a staged kidnapping operation gone awry….When asked by Kincaid to clarify his comments, Lyons responded by asking (and then answering a question): “What was Mursi’s number one priority?… Get the release of the Blind Sheikh.” (Told you, told you, told you, I did…..it was the only thing that made all the take down of security under HC, stand down of rescue and sociopathic “bump in the road” POTUS reaction when The Plan blew up because rebels just had to sodomize and kill a gay versus holding him for ransom…. Hillary and her MB connections up in it to their necks. We need to thank the Egyptian people for revolting against the New World Order to use them as pawns and standing up for their freedoms, now outlawing the MB, which has infiltrated US Regime and multiple alphabet agencies. –Barb)

Excerpt: Former Florida Republican Rep. Allen West fired back at the Council on American-Islamic Relations Tuesdayafter the Muslim advocacy group denounced West as Islamophobic last week. “Recently the Council for (sic) American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) bestowed upon me a great honor, they listed me in the top ten of individuals and organizations they fear,” West wrote on a Tuesday Facebook post

Excerpt: Here’s what Allan Brauer, the now former communications chair for the Democratic Party of Sacramento, responded on his Twitter account. He wished that Carpenter’s children would “die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.”

Secretary Kerry Will Sign UN Arms Trade Treaty
Excerpt: Obama administration officials say Secretary of State John Kerry will sign the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) "during annual United Nations General Assembly meeting this week." As Breitbart News reported in March, the ATT hands the executive branch the power to work with other governments around the world to shut down portions of the U.S. import firearms market…. On March 23, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced an amendment to keep the U.S. from entering into the treaty.

NRA Reacts to Signing of UN Arms Treaty: Blatant Attack on Constitutional Rights. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: Secretary of State John Kerry has signed the UN Arms Trade Treaty on behalf of the Obama administration and the National Rifle Association, which has spent years fighting the treaty, isn't happy about it. “The Obama administration is once again demonstrating its contempt for our fundamental, individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms,” Executive Director of the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action Chris W. Cox said. “This treaty threatens individual firearm ownership with an invasive registration scheme.

Freedom of Travel Act Aims To Reaffirm Americans’ 4th Amendment Freedoms
Excerpt: Simply put, there is no conceivable aspect of life that is free from the TSA and its VIPR squads. Yet, despite its all encompassing reach, the VIPR program has little record of making the American people safer. VIPR searches are typically random and thus are not based on any actual specific threat or criminal activity.

Good Column: Next stop, banana republic. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: We’re not a banana republic, if only because the debt of banana republics is denominated in a currency other than their own – i.e., the U.S. dollar. When you’re the guys who print the global currency, you can run up debts undreamt of by your average generalissimo. As Obama explained in another of his recent speeches, “Raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt.” I won’t even pretend to know what he and his speechwriters meant by that one, but the fact that raising the debt ceiling “has been done over a hundred times” does suggest that spending more than it takes in is now a permanent feature of American government.

Obama Lied, My Health Plan Died. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: Last week, our family received notice from Anthem BlueCross BlueShield of Colorado that we can no longer keep the plan we like because of "changes from health care reform (also called the Affordable Care Act or ACA)." The letter informed us that "(t)o meet the requirements of the new laws, your current plan can no longer be continued beyond your 2014 renewal date."

Obama's 1.3 Billion in Syrian Aid Helping Al Qaeda. By Daniel Greenfield

Obamacare Will Increase Health Spending By $7,450 For A Typical Family of Four
How many times did Mr. Obama mention the specific number of a $2500 reduction per year savings in health care costs for a typical American family of four? Answer- like a half dozen at least. But gee, it turns out the official figures that have come out say that Obamacare will result in a total increase in health care costs for the country of about $62 billion dollars per year. I say again, an increase in health care costs for the country. Which means that family will not have $2500 fewer bucks going into their health care costs per year, instead they will have an increase in those costs, of roughly $900 per year. All kinds of supporters of Obamacare are upset with these numbers and have said very nasty things about them. None of what they have said disproves the predictions of the Medicare actuaries. Even if they are wrong about the amount of increase, there is certainly no question that there will never be the promised $2500 annual bonus to those US families. We're watching the major unions screaming to be exempted from Obamacare because it will raise their costs, Congress has exempted themselves and their staffs from Obamacare, others are lining up to try to get exemptions, just how much evidence that this is not going to work as promised does anyone need? Here comes October first, when the real fun will start. I figure by January the initial impact of the system will begin to be felt, and by next October everyone will know a great deal about what is really going to happen with this horrendous package. That may affect some of the voting in the Fall. We live in such interesting times. Meanwhile, the Syria mess rolls along, and so far there hasn't even been a hint of a plan for locating and destroying the chemical weapons. I will go way out on a limb here and predict that this is not going to work out well at all. Anyone care to make a wager on this? I'll offer good odds. –Del

Vietnam's Talk/Fight Strategy in play on Human Rights Negotiations. By Michael Benge
http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/09/vietnams_talkfight_strategy_in_play_on_human_rights_negotiations.html#!#ixzz2fgIhbO7w
Excerpt: For decades, the Vietnamese communists' negotiating strategy has been "Talk/Fight" -- first in dealing with the French, then with theU.S. during the Vietnam War, and now in the current U.S.-Vietnam Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. The "Talk/Fight" strategy is to engage their opponent in negotiations, stalling for time, all the while replenishing, repositioning, and resupplying their troops, as they gain ground and concessions. According to Ernest Bower, senior advisor on Southeast Asia at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, "[t]he American government admires Vietnam's strategic thinking." (The total hypocrisy of Hanoi in claiming to be a socialist government created for the good of the people is truly unbelievable. They have been oppressors always, and now their level of oppression just keeps increasing. While our government ignores that, and continues to give them MFN status, when they should be a Nation of Particular Concern. And we should be subjecting them to all kinds of pressures, trade-wise and any other ways possible, because they will react to nothing except something that affects their cash flow. --Del)
Theft of US weapons in Libya involved hundreds of guns, sources say
Excerpt: The recent theft of massive amounts of highly sensitive U.S. military equipment from Libya is far worse than previously thought, Fox News has learned, with raiders swiping hundreds of weapons that are now in the hands of militia groups aligned with terror organizations and the Muslim Brotherhood. The equipment, as Fox News previously reported, was used for training in Libya by U.S. Special Forces. The training team, which was funded by the Pentagon, has since been pulled, partly in response to the overnight raids last August.
