Lots of news over the weekend

The weekend’s huge news haul, while I was herding 11 to 13-year old girls at a birthday sleepover. They overran the position, but we survived with no casualties on either side. ~Bob

ICYMI: Compassion for Immigrants. By Robert A. Hall

Guest Post: Why Advisors Can Be Important

Private donations give edge to Islamists in Syria, officials say
Excerpt: The stream of U.S. weapons heading to moderate rebel groups in Syria is being offset by a fresh torrent of cash for Islamist extremists, much of it from small networks of Arab donors who see the Syrian conflict as a step toward a broader Islamist uprising across the region, U.S. and Middle Eastern officials say. (There, a moderate is someone who won’t kill you and other infidels such as the local Christians and Alawites himself, but will cheer and than Allah when the extremists do. ~Bob

Lower Health Insurance Premiums to Come at Cost of Fewer Choices
Excerpt: Federal officials often say that health insurance will cost consumers less than expected under President Obama’s health care law. But they rarely mention one big reason: many insurers are significantly limiting the choices of doctors and hospitals available to consumers. (New York Times: Wait, Obamacare Has a Big Downside We Forgot to Mention. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt)

Excerpt: Imagine an idealized model of the health insurance marketplace in which there are only three sets of variables: Premiums, Covered benefits, Access to providers. In this simple world, these are the only choices insurers have. They cannot tell providers how to practice medicine. They don’t negotiate special discounts. Once they decide what fee to pay, providers can join or not join their networks. In what follows, I will assume that higher fees attract more doctors and hospitals to a network and that means greater access to care. Lower fees have the opposite effect. Now, you could conceivably have market competition for all three sets of variables. You could also have government regulate all three. But if you want robust competition,* you can only regulate one of them.

The Cost of Global Warming Policies
Excerpt: Maybe we should try to alter this scenario. We should accept that there is global warming. But we should also accept that current policies are costly and have little upside.
The European Union will pay $250 billion for its current climate policies each and every year for 87 years. For almost $20 trillion, temperatures by the end of the century will be reduced by a negligible 0.05 degrees Celsius. The current green energy technologies still cost far too much and produce far too little to replace existing energy sources. (Well, liberal the carbon policies have this upside: they make Progressives feel good about being for the environment. There is no price they will not make you—and the poor—pay to get that warm and fuzzy green feeling. ~Bob.)

Hillary Clinton’s Foundation Problem: “Transactionalism” at the Clinton Global Initiative, the New Republic reports. But who got favors from Bill, Doug, and Teneo? By Ben Smith
Excerpt: Hillary Clinton’s announcement in May that she would be joining her husband’s foundation seemed, to outsiders, like the most natural thing in the world: A high-minded, charitable base for whatever the former Secretary of State might choose to do. But inside Clinton’s circle, the decision provoked a frisson of worry: Clinton was giving up, some thought, the (genuinely) plausible deniability that could protect her from a charitable venture that had always had, up close, a seedy side. (The Clintons? A seedy side? Show me your shocked face. ~Bob. But you know their response. Come on. Say it with me: "What difference, at this point, does it make?" --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt)

Excerpt: Newark mayor Cory Booker, who hopes to be New Jersey’s next senator, claims to have “released” 15 years’ worth of his tax returns in what his campaign trumpeted as a “historic gesture of transparency.” Perhaps the mayor should consult T-Bone or another of his possibly imaginary felonious friends about the definition of “release.” The mayor’s tax returns remain locked up, though they were allowed a conjugal visit with the press: Nine reporters, all hand-picked by the Booker campaign, were permitted three hours with the documents in a hotel ballroom in Newark — no photographs, no copies, no removing documents from the room, resulting in what one of the reporters present described as a mad scramble to record information as the clock ticked to zero. (In the past weeks, and with great emphasis this weekend, our Eliana Johnson and the New York Post's Michael Gartland prove that Cory Booker is a pathological liar when it comes to his own life story. He and a largely compliant New Jersey and New York-area media painted Booker as a heroic mayor who's doing his best in a troubled city. The truth is that he's a mediocre mayor in city that is basically in the same shape as when he started, with his personal legend largely based upon exaggerations and over-dramatizations. His single greatest skill is self-promotion. Are you paying attention, all of you national media correspondents, preparing for the "rising star" profile pieces after Booker's near-certain win October 16? Are you paying attention, New Jersey voters? If you find voting for Steve Lonegan unthinkable, you are allowed to stay home on Election Day. --Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt)

UN: Over 800 People Killed In Iraq In August
Excerpt: More than 800 people were killed in Iraq in violence throughout August, the UN said Sunday. That was down somewhat from July, but still one of the highest monthly tolls in recent years. (5,000 have been killed since the start of 2013. Al Qaeda did most of this and our government wants to support them in Syria. Without our intervention, would this be happening? Neocons insist we 'won' in Iraq. Maybe so, but the Iraqis clearly lost! --Don Hank)

India's War On Intellectual Property Rights May Bring With It A Body Count. By Sally Pipes
Excerpt: Why should Americans care about patent fights halfway around the world? Because India’s war on intellectual property rights harms the patients, workers, and investors of today — and will undermine research into the innovative cures of tomorrow.

LSU’s Jeremy Hill plays the Knockout Game. By Colin Flaherty

Excerpt: Jeremy Hill of LSU Tigers formally charged in bar fight – ESPN

Excerpt: Accountability Review Board member Admiral Mike Mullen admitted Thursday that a “hold in place” order was given during the assault on a U.S. State Department facility in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. Mullen made the admission while testifying that no “stand down” order was given…. Also on Thursday, parents of two of the four Americans killed in the attack testified that the president and several other senior administration officials lied to them about the origins of the attack.

Excerpt: Although millions of birds are killed by wind turbines each year, the UK’s Royal Society for the Protection of Birds wants to install a wind turbine on its headquarters to reduce the group’s carbon footprint.

Excerpt: In the 5th Century B.C. King Leonidas of Sparta, at the beginning of the Battle of Thermopylae, was met on the battlefield by an overwhelming Persian force led by Field Commander Xerxes. When Xerxes demanded a Spartan surrender, King Leonidas messaged back "Come and get it"...meaning come and take our weapons. The undermanned Spartans would lose that battle and die on the field of battle. But they didn't make it easy for the Persians. The battle lasted three days and the undermanned Spartans killed an awful lot of Persians before it was all over. And, as the Persians licked their many wounds, the people of Athens were able to evacuate that city and spared the Greeks a blood bath. As Obama and his liberal cohorts have tried to restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of Americans, making every effort to confiscate our guns, our citizens have adopted that ancient Greek phrase Molon Labe.. "come and get it"...

Foot-draggers: U.S. and Russia slow to destroy own chemical weapons amid Syria smackdown
Excerpt: As the Obama administration presses the United Nations this week to rid Syria of its chemical weapons, it faces the stark reality that the United States has failed to meet a 2012 deadline to destroy its remaining arsenal and has never pressured its closest Middle East ally, Israel, to sign the treaty banning such weapons. (It was not a treaty that kept Germany from using Sarin in WWII. It was that the allies had it too, and would retaliate. ~Bob)

Palin: Hillary Unfit For Presidency Because Of Benghazi Scandal
Excerpt: Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said Hillary Clinton is unfit to be president
Palin said that Clinton should "never be considered as Commander-in-Chief " because she helped "throw away 200 years of military ethos" and left "our men behind to be murdered in Benghazi." Clinton had initially claimed last year that the four Americans who were killed by terrorists died because of a YouTube parody video of Muhammad. (If only that was the only reason. ~Bob.)

Jihad in Kenya. By Robert Spencer
Excerpt: However, Hakim said, “Then an Indian man came forward and they said, ‘What is the name of Muhammad’s mother?’ When he couldn’t answer they just shot him.” Non-Muslims who wish to prepare for the future of the United States and other non-Muslim nations may wish to commit to memory the factoid that Muhammad’s mother was Amina bint Wahb; however, the most noteworthy aspect of these jihadists’ selection process was that it forced the mainstream media, which generally ignores, denies, and/or obfuscates the Islamic identity and motives of jihad murderers, to report about the jihadists’ desire to kill only non-Muslims, not Muslims.

Must read: In the Name of Islam. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: “I don’t understand why you would shoot a five-year-old child,” one of the survivors said. But the five-year-old was not a Muslim. Moments like these put the Clash of Civilizations into bloody context. This isn’t abstract politics. It’s not about economics, the environment or foreign policy. It’s about a worldview in which a five-year-old who can’t recite the Islamic confession of faith deserves to be killed. The crime is not being a Muslim.

Somali jihadists say that three U.S. Muslims are among Kenya mall jihad mass murderers
Excerpt: Of course, to investigate Muslim communities in Minneapolis and Kansas City would be "Islamophobic." Better jihad mass murder than that.

Israeli forces enter Nairobi mall to end carnage: Report
Excerpt: Israeli forces have joined Kenyan efforts to end a deadly siege by Somali militants at a Nairobi shopping mall, a security source told AFP Sunday. (Israel did what Obama and Europe would not do but could have done. (See below) The slain poet comes from the Ewe tribe, a non Muslim people. President Kenyatta, who swears to bring the evildoers to justice, is a non-Muslim of the Kikuyu tribe, a rival of the mostly-Muslim Luo tribe, Obama's ancestral family. Raila Odinga, of the Luo tribe, is Obama's uncle-in-law and had once received campaign support from then Senator Obama. (http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/01/atlas-sighting.html) While Obama was quick to threaten an attack against pro-Christian Assad in Syria over an unconfirmed suspicion of chemical weapons use by the latter, he had nothing to say about the recent terror attacks in Nairobi. The terrorists are Muslims and sympathetic to uncle Raila Odinga. Obama could not intervene because his sympathies are with the Luo tribe, whose candidate recently lost the presidential election to Kenyatta. Not only was uncle Odinga a former Muslim, he was also a far leftist, like nephew Obama. It is dangerously naive to believe the myth that American intervention in Syria (where the CIA is supplying arms to Al Qaeda linked terrorists) is 'humanitarian' and anything but tribal and religious in nature. Since Obama's tribe is Muslim, then he MUST support, in Nairobi, the radical Muslims against the terror victims. His support is often in the form of inaction. Obama may occasionally talk tough about terror, but his actions and, for example, in Nairobi and Benghazi, his inactions, demonstrate that he has no intention of ever sincerely fighting Islamic terrorists. This is nothing short of criminal on the part of Barack Obama. Thank God for the Israeli commandos. --Don Hank)

Pakistan church blast kills dozens
Excerpt: A twin-suicide bombing outside a church in Peshawar in Pakistan has killed at least 75 people, in one of the worst attacks on Christians in the country.

Stung by public unease about new details of spying by the National Security Agency, President Barack Obama selected a panel of advisers he described as independent experts to scrutinize the NSA's surveillance programs to be sure they weren't violating civil liberties and to restore Americans' trust. But with just weeks remaining before its first deadline to report back to the White House, the review panel has effectively been operating as an arm of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which oversees the NSA and all other U.S. spy efforts.

Navy Yard shooting: Swat team awaits answers
Days after the shooting, none of the officers has been questioned by officials or investigators from a special panel that was convened on Wednesday. Members of the Containment and Emergency Response Team (Cert) are typically debriefed "right away, at the very least the following day" after an incident, a Capitol Police source said….On Thursday, members of the tactical unit, which has several dozen members, were told that it had a new leader, a Capitol Police source said.

Union rep: Cutbacks cost lives in Navy Yard shooting
Excerpt: Anthony Meely, chairman of the Fraternal Order of Police Naval District Labor Committee, says a minimum of 11 Navy police officers were supposed to be working at the Navy Yard on Monday, but only seven were at the site. Because six had to continue manning gates, only one could immediately respond to the attack at Building 197, Meely said….Meely says once additional officers were able to respond, they had to run on foot because police cruisers had been dropped in recent years. (Oh, yeah, “someone” knew this…..and when the SWAT Team showed up to foil their plans, they were ordered to stand down and go away and let the killing continue…..Barb)

Report: Swat Team Told To 'Stand Down' At Navy Yard Massacre
First, just as a "minor detail" of the event, check out this link. Then we can all try to figure out why in hell a well equipped SWAT team, trying to get into the Navy Yard to hunt down the shooter, was told to stand down. This type of bureaucratic insanity needs to be investigated right into the ground, and the responsible individuals located, and soon thereafter "retired with prejudice", as in fired and get the hell out of here now. Bad decisions that cost lives need to bring on dire consequences to the decision makers. --Del

American Banana Republic: The decay of a free society doesn’t happen overnight, but we’re getting there. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: As Obama explained in another of his recent speeches, “Raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt.” I won’t even pretend to know what he and his speechwriters meant by that one, but the fact that raising the debt ceiling “has been done over a hundred times” does suggest that spending more than it takes in is now a permanent feature of American government. And no one has plans to do anything about it.

History of the Muslim Brotherhood Penetration of the U.S. Government

Excerpt: Given the long history of Muslim Brotherhood activity in this country, its declared objective to "destroy the Western civilization from within," and the extensive evidence of successful influence operations at the highest levels of the U.S. government, it is urgent that we recognize this clear and present danger that threatens not only our Republic but the values of Western civilization. … Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest aspiration."-- Motto of the Muslim Brotherhood

Hillary Clinton running for president in 2016, friends say — and Huma Abedin will have tough choice
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/hillary-clinton-weighing-2016-run-hurry-decision-article-1.1463823#ixzz2fhP5baGG
Excerpt: Hillary Clinton has decided to run for president in 2016, close friends say — and that would force long-time aide Huma Abedin into making a tough decision of her own, between her career and her disgraced husband, Anthony Weiner. Several Clinton confidants tell New York magazine that that the former secretary of state will jump into the 2016 presidential race.

Excerpt: Sorry to interrupt the Best Enabler of a Sociopath Award ceremony but, to recap, Ms. Abedin worked for many years at a journal that promotes Islamic-supremacist ideology that was founded by a top al-Qaeda financier, Abdullah Omar Naseef. ….Ms. Abedin and Naseef overlapped at the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs (JMMA) for at least seven years. Throughout that time (1996–2003), Ms. Abdein worked for Hillary Clinton in various capacities.”

Revealed: US Nearly Dropped Nuclear Bomb on North Carolina
Excerpt: The report, written by Parker F. Jones eight years after the incident, revealed that two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over GoldsboroNorth Carolina, when a B-52 bomber plane broke apart in midair. The fall set off mechanisms in one of the bomb that were designed for an attack scenario: the bomb’s parachute opened and its trigger mechanisms engaged. Three of the four safety mechanisms meant to prevent unintended detonation failed to operate.

Chris Christie Inducted Into CAIR’s ‘Best List’ For Fighting ‘Islamophobia’
Excerpt: The Council on the American Islamic Relations (CAIR) excoriated many of its critics in their "Islamophobia" report, but the group also had a "Best List Inductees" which included New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. CAIR says the list was compiled as a way to recognize those who "deserve recognition for their outstanding contributions to pushing back against Islamophobic trends in 2011 and 2012." The report says Christie is receiving the accolade primarily for his nomination of a Muslim judge and statements in the ensuing controversy:

Feds Praise 'Islam's Work For Women's Rights'

Excerpt: “The National Park Service earlier this year prepared for sequestration budget cuts by closing visitor centers and furloughing park police – but still managed to produce videos promotion the virtues of Islam’s respect for women’s rights,” the publication said. …But “in videos on the park’s website, children in an Islamic school … ‘discuss their experiences and challenges with negative Muslim stereotypes and assumptions.’” The publication noted that the claim to Islam’s creation of women’s rights “appears to contradict the ’10 reasons we hate women’s rights’ which the Muslim Brotherhood presented to the United Nations in March.” (Your tax dollars at work. Any doubt who is running the government? Not those who used to be citizens….welcome to the New World Order and your Shadow Regime. –Barb. Because allowing men to have four wives and unlimited concubines, to have sex with slave girls, to marry nine-year-olds, to stone teen rape victims for adultery and to prohibit women for going out alone or without a burka is so feminist. ~Bob.)

Islamic Feminism: 1/3 of Gaza Hamas marriages involved underage girls. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Who knew that setting up a region controlled by Islamists would lead to repression of women and child abuse? "In 2012, of about 17,000 marriages were registered in the courts of the Gaza Strip, 35% were cases in which the brides were under 17 years old. These marriages are concluded without the courts knowing the girls’ real ages."

Political Correctness and Stupid Policies (possibly redundant? --JB)
Excerpt: Is anyone else ticked that we’ve all been forced to know the now-dead-and-in-hell piece of shiitake named Aaron Alexis? However livid we may be, I’m sure it can’t compare to the rage the family members and friends of the ones he mowed down must feel. For those who only watch MTV and have no clue who Aaron Alexis is, well, he’s the dude that shot and killed twelve innocent people at the Navy Yard military base in D.C. last Monday.

From the left: The Incredibly Shrinking American Middle Class
Excerpt: A typical American household made about $51,017 in 2012, according to new figures out from the Census Bureau this week. That number may sound familiar to anyone who remembers George H. W. Bush’s first year as president or Michael Jackson in his prime. That’s because household income in 2012 is similar to what it was in 1989 (but back then it was actually higher: you had an extra $600 or so to spend compared to today). There are three reasons for this. First, as Dr. Thomas Sowell points out, household size has also been shrinking, so there are fewer wage earners in a household, thus individual income is a better indicator. Second, the collapse of the culture under left wing 60’s values has resulted in spiking non-marital birth rates, and single parent homes are highly correlated with poverty. Third, in the Obama economy, more people have given up looking for work and many had to take part time work[or unemployment would be above 14%] and the workforce participation level is at it’s lowest level in 35 years. People not working reduces household income. ~Bob)

Excerpt: "Yet, they somehow feel like crusaders, like heroes when they vote to cut food stamps. Some of these same members travel to foreign countries under the guise of official business. They dine at lavish restaurants, eating steak, vodka and even caviar. They receive money to do this. That’s right, they don’t pay out of pocket for these meals." (This is a fair hit. Republicans who feed at the trough cannot fairly claim to be fiscal conservatives and are part of the problem. In five terms as a state senator, I took one “junket” at taxpayer expense, when I attend a hearing of one of my committees in the “luxury vacation paradise” of Springfield, Massachusetts. I didn’t allow lobbyists to take me out to lunch or dinner, when that was common practice on both sides of the aisle. ~Bob)

Make Food Stamps Make Sense: Modest work requirements are reasonable.
Excerpt: Representative [Eric] Cantor [R-Virginia] is at most a trimmer [not a slasher], not that you would know it from recent headlines raising the alarm over his plan to “slash” food-stamp spending. He has just helped shepherd through the House a bill that would reduce food-stamp spending by approximately 5 percent, impose some modest work/job-training requirements on able-bodied adults without children, tighten eligibility standards, and delegate some responsibility for the program from the federal government to the states.

House Republicans Pass Deep Cuts ($40 Billion) From Food Stamps Program.
Excerpt: The bill passed narrowly despite efforts by the House minority leader, Nancy Pelosi, who spoke at a news conference on Thursday. The vote set up what promised to be a major clash with the Senate and dashed hopes for passage this year of a new five-year farm bill. The vote was 217 to 210, largely along party lines. [About time, considering the amount of free food there is to haul away. Kate. Kate, a high school classmate of mind was a liberal—then she went to college in LA…~Bob]

Rollie Chance is alive--and wants some media accountability. By Ed Morrisey
Excerpt: When the FBI greets you by saying, “I didn’t have a good day because you are the first shooter who came back to life,” you know you’re not going to have a good day, either. Veteran and Navy contractor Rollie Chance and his family endured a few hours of shock, embarrassment, and fear after two major network broadcasters published his name as the Navy Yard shooter in Monday’s massacre. Now Chance wants to see some accountability for the error: (Well, the people in hell want ice water and they aren’t going to get it either. ~bob.)

Americans Are Right To Oppose ObamaCare
Excerpt: Everybody who dislikes ObamaCare is being duped by GOP propaganda, says President Obama. That must include all those unions calling it a disaster, and all those who've lost jobs and pay because of the law. Telemundo, the only news outlet that appears willing to ask Obama a tough question, pressed him this week about polls showing most Americans oppose ObamaCare. "Is everybody wrong?" the host asked. "Yes, they are," Obama responded. (Alternatives are now going on the table in Congress, at long last. I'll be interested to see what that package is, but what's just as important is that there have been a whole host of problems with ACA already, assorted delays and complications, and of course Congress exempting its members and their staffs (the very definition of chutzpah), while a long list of unions are getting or trying to get exemptions as well. Even some Democrats are now backing away from this, while opposition among the public keeps rising. I said this would get interesting, and it sure looks like that now. –Del Actually, Congressman Tom Price, MD has had an alternative for years, as has the NCPA and others. Ignored by the media so they can say, “No alternatives have been offered. ~Bob.)

White House Staffers call president "Obam-Me".
Excerpt: "Because it's all about him and his big thoughts," [Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy] Noonan writes in a column. "I guess the second-term team is not quite as adoring as the first."

A Budget Deal Isn't Possible If Obama Won't Negotiate. By Lawrence Kudlow
Excerpt: One of the biggest mistakes President Obama is making in the current debate over the threat of a government shutdown and the failure to raise the debt ceiling is his repeated and stubborn refusal to negotiate. (It's supposed to be the GOP guys, but actually, that's not the only way to look at it. There's the guy on the other side, who has taken the rigid stance and refuses to even discuss anything else. But if you listen to the major media, that concept will never even come up. –Del. He’s counting on the media to convince low-info voters it is the Republicans’ fault for not giving in to him. Likely, he’s right. ~Bob.)

20 Of the Most Obnoxious Quotes From College Professors. By John Hawkins
Excerpt: College classrooms are supposed to be politically neutral, not indoctrination centers for liberalism. Yet, we have conservative parents who save money for decades to send their children to universities that teach everything conservatives believe is wrong. We have Republican state legislatures that fund colleges whose first goal is to teach college kids to vote Republicans out of office. We have colleges that claim to care deeply about diversity; yet they work overtime to keep conservative professors and conservative speakers off campus.

House GOP Renews Efforts of Hispanic Outreach. By Amanda Munoz
Excerpt: Progress on immigration reform may be stalled on Capitol Hill, but House Republicans have not forgotten about the Hispanic community. The Republican Conference kick-started National Hispanic Heritage Month this week, which began September 15th, with a “GOP Meetup” in the U.S. Capitol Building that brought together Hispanic businessmen, pastors, political activists, and other community leaders from across the country with several representatives who are taking the lead in engaging minority audiences. (When is, oh, Latvian Heritage Month? Don’t those citizens deserve equal treatment? ~Bob)

Excerpt: Barack Hussein Obama sadly lacks the skills of a quality actor. Oh sure, he acts...but it is so superficial that most folks who abstain from drinking the liberal Kool-Aid see right through it. Obama seems never to have grown past the stage where Tommy and Tammy go up in the attic, don Daddy and Mommy's oversize clothes and play "grownup". Now, when Obama, in shoes far too big to fill, played "lawyer", he wasn't bad; he stood arrogantly, was careful with his words, spit out talking points as if he were making the closing argument before a trial jury. However, when Obama tries to stand up as our nation's leader the little whiny boy-child comes out.

Nobody Escapes the Progressive Inquisition. By Nicholas James Pell
Excerpt: The tempest in a teapot began when [Pax] Dickinson was not sufficiently enthusiastic about denouncing a fictional app called Titstare that made its debut at the annual TechCrunch Disrupt startup conference. Institutional feminism has as of late descended upon the tech industry, widely known as a bastion of unabashed authoritarianism and (clutch the pearls) unbridled masculinity (no, really), demanding (what else?) equality of outcomes. The app, which doesn’t actually exist, supposedly lets you take selfies, as the kids say, while you stare at a luscious pair of mams. [Submitted to The Old Jarhead by Kate, a girl.]

London: Signs of a city on the edge of a nervous breakdown. By Ali Hope
Excerpt: Central London’s value is now worth more than all of Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland combined. Just the rise in value since 2007 could buy the northeast of England. That’s not healthy; it’s also not stable.

Of Hacks and Hatchet Jobs. By Taki Theodoracopulos
Excerpt: To choose the sweaty hellhole of Qatar [to host the 2022 Soccer World Cup] over bids by Australia, the US, Japan, and South Korea is like choosing Hillary Clinton over Keira Knightley—one would do it only for the money. Although Qatar promised air-conditioned stadiums and other such chimeras, it has yet to deliver the few million it promised the concentration camp of Gaza.
Fortunately, there is always a funny side to such matters, like Greg Dyke (head of the English Football Association) announcing that England can win the World Cup in 2022.

Muslim Brotherhood sabotaging Israeli aid to Syrians. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The Muslim Brotherhood’s role in Syria is often little mentioned. But aid is a political weapon that allows the Brotherhood to control people. And that is why funneling aid through Muslim Brotherhood front groups, even humanitarian aid, is a terrible idea.

Who are the occupiers? Hezbollah and Palestinians now killing each other. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: While you might think that this is part of the Syrian Civil War between Sunnis and Shiites as most Palestinian Muslims are Sunnis and Hezbollah is a Shiite Islamist terror group, the truth appears to be even more ironic. "A Palestinian was killed and five others wounded in a clash between Hezbollah members and Palestinians in Burj al-Barajneh, south of the capital Beirut, the Al Jadeed TV reported."

Tom Delay: 'I Can Get My Concealed Weapon License Back' By Todd Beamon
Excerpt: "Because I'm walking with the Lord, I had no burden," he said at the news conference. "He's had the burden. He carried it." DeLay's immediate plans? A book about constitutional revival in the federal government. The working title, according to the Morning News: "Shut Her Down."

Excerpt: Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula killed more than 50 Yemeni soldiers and policemen in a coordinated attack against military installations in southern Yemen today. Yemeni officials said that 56 soldiers and policemen were killed and an undisclosed number were captured during attacks against military camps in Shabwa province, a known haven and stronghold for AQAP. Eight AQAP fighters are said to have been killed in the attacks. (You may want to subscribe to The Long War Journal. ~Bob. http://www.longwarjournal.org/)

Sincerely, George Orwell. By Elizabeth Powers
Excerpt: In the 1946 essay “Why I Write,” Orwell spelled out his goal: “Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936 has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I understand it.” It was in pursuit of this goal that Orwell worked under appalling (to us moderns) conditions. Running water, bathrooms, electrical lighting—he seems not to have given much thought to them, as long as there was high tea at the end of the afternoon or “his ration of gin” in the evening. (Unfortunately for his dreams, “Democratic Socialism” is a contradiction, because socialists always have to use increasing forms of coercion—totalitarianism—to force people to do things “for their own good” as defined by the elitist socialists—who always seem to live quite well, thank you. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: : Another explosive passage indicates both that former U.S. Attorney and current Tulane Dean Jim Letten 1) may have engaged in unethical conduct subjecting him to a bar complaint, and 2) that higher DOJ officials were informed about what was going on but did not act, and further, that they covered up the outrageous conduct in the trial: … A current dean at Tulane Law, former United States Attorney Jim Letten, knew for months that lawyers in his office were secretly blogging at the Times Picayune website to influence the outcome of a criminal case. Yet Letten never instructed his lawyers to inform United States District Judge Kurt Englehardt about their shenanigans, and never did so himself for months.

Excerpt: Wolf was referring to the FBI’s violation of the ban on cooperation with the unindicted co-conspirator terrorist organization CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations), according to a just-released DOJ Inspector General report. CAIR was determined to be related to the web of terrorist financing during the Holy Land Foundation trials in Dallas, a trial which resulted in guilty verdicts. Afterwards, the FBI issued a blanket policy: no cooperation in the field with CAIR.

Excerpt: If anyone in the situation committed assault, it was the rent-a-cop. Mr. Small wasn’t doing anything wrong or illegal. He was doing what every parent should do, in being involved in his children’s education.

Socialism in Action: Venezuelan Government Takes Over Toilet Paper Factory: An acute shortage of TP demands desperate measures — even if they're the wrong ones.
Excerpt: There is a crisis in Venezuela — an acute shortage of toilet paper. President Nicolas Maduro’s socialist government has hit upon a brilliant solution: take over the largest factory in the country making toilet paper to “ensure a sufficient supply.” Your what hurts? (My first trip abroad was a study abroad summer to Austria and USSR. I collected TP everywhere. Some of it looked like the stuff you get to clean your windshield at the gas station. Some of it was crinkled like crepe paper streamers. And in the Soviet Union, where there was a command economy with the Regime dictating how much of what would be made and by which satellite country of the USSR, there were 2” shreds of the Moscow Times, if you were lucky. Yes, the all-powerful, supreme commanders could not predict the demand for TP. There is something to be said for a free market economy with the law of supply and demand….Too bad Americans could not appreciate what they had. –Barb)

Excerpt: Connor’s stepchild reportedly opted out of the Sept. 4 field trip, and was instead asked to pen a paper comparing and contrasting the religious teachings of Jesus, Gandhi and Muhammad. …The Tennessean reports the material Connor’s stepchild was given as part of that alternative assignment included a single page of Bible verses, two-thirds of a page about Gandhi and five pages about Muhammad. The student subsequently cried foul and was initially told she would receive a zero on the assignment, the newspaper reported.

LYONS: The Islamic cloud over Brennan and Hagel: National security may not be a first priority
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/feb/19/the-islamic-cloud-over-brennan-and-hagel/#ixzz2ff2twcQD
Excerpt: The report stated that Mr. Brennan was converted to Islam while CIA station chief in Saudi Arabia from 1996 to ‘99…. However, according to Mr. Guandolo — a former SWAT team leader at the FBI, counterterrorism and Muslim Brotherhood specialist and Marine platoon commander — what should be an issue was the Saudis’ targeted recruitment of Mr. Brennan to the ideology of Islam while he was serving as the CIA station chief in Riyadh. This was not just a conversion but a political act by a foreign intelligence service. (National security? It’s called completing the coup d’Ă©tat, only the folks haven’t figured it out….Barb)

Capitol Hill Ten Commandments Monument Toppled by Vandals—News Conference to be Held at Site
Excerpt: The only Ten Commandments monument visible on Capitol Hill has been toppled face-down to the ground by vandals (photo). The 850-pound steel reinforced sculpture sits in the front garden of the Honorable William J. OstrowksiHouse on Capitol Hill, the headquarters for Faith and Action, a Christian outreach ministry to top-level government officials in WashingtonDC.

Texas Fertilizer Plant Disaster: Little Coverage, Much of It Wrong
HK: The company lied to EPA when they said that there is no risk of fire or explosion at the facility, but at the same time they told EPA that, they were honest with the state because they know the state wouldn’t do anything in saying that they had 270 tons of fire and explosive material, the ammonium nitrate. So they were honest with the state because they knew the state wasn’t going to do anything, but to the federal government and the Obama administration, they lied. And of course, the local fire department — not equipped to handle the type of emergency that that entailed — they didn’t have any respirators, they didn’t have any training how to handle that type of fire. (Main media concern at same time—Boston bombing—which Feds should have known about per Russians. –Barb)

Obama Signs Disaster Declaration Months After Explosion Devastates West, Texas
Excerpt: (The explosion) dug a crater 93 feet wide and 10 feet deep, officials have said, flattened a school and tore apart the West Rest Haven nursing home, where rescuers braved the wreckage to help extract more than 130 people. The Federal Emergency Management Agency in June denied additional money to the town. (West, TX explosion occurred 04/17/13. Obama denied federal aid requested by Gov Perry. Reversed himself in August. All political. –Barb)

A presidency on the verge of a nervous breakdown: 5 key reasons why Barack Obama’s future looks increasingly bleak

Excerpt: Forget the myth of an Obama recovery. The past week has been disastrous for the White House and America’s increasingly disillusioned Left. …Here are five reasons why the Obama presidency’s outlook is getting significantly worse, not better: (Anybody seen POTUS playing golf this weekend? Oh, look for another national disaster to bring us together (read false flag) in November. –Barb)

Excerpt: The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education lambasted the college’s callous and Orwellian behavior, asserting that Van Tuinen did indeed have the right to distribute copies of the Constitution wherever he pleased. “Passing out flyers outdoors is one of the most Constitutionally-protected activities there is,” said FIRE Senior Vice President told The Daily Caller. “Every single person enforcing this should have realized something was wrong.” 9well, at least he wasn’t guillotined, as college students Hans and Sophie Scholl were for handing out anti Nazi pamphlets at their college in, if memory serves, 1943. Hasn’t come to that. Yet. ~Bob.)

America-hating Obama a Threat to World Freedom
Excerpt: The impassable roadblock now facing civilized society can be summed up in a single sentence: While radical Islam becomes increasingly intolerant of all others, the West has become hopelessly hooked on ‘Tolerance Overkill’. The U.S. is tolerating a president whose life’s passion is a poisonous hatred of America.

Obama accuses gun control opponents of fighting to allow ‘dangerous people’ to own guns
http://dailycaller.com/2013/09/22/obama-accuses-gun-control-opponents-of-fighting-to-allow-dangerous-people-to-own-guns/#ixzz2feXYTaL8
Excerpt: President Barack Obama accused opponents of gun control of fighting to allow “dangerous people” to own guns in a speech on Saturday to activists at Congressional Black Caucus, promising he would revive his failed gun control efforts following recent urban shootings in Chicago and Washington D.C.’s Navy Yard. (All guns are dangerous—just ask Brian Terry or the 500+ Mexicans killed by the guns Obama gave the drug cartels. But so are hammers, or hands and fists. They both kill more people in murders every year than all types of rifles. Ban them first. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: In June 2013, CAIR changed its name to the nondescriptly named Washington Trust Foundation, Inc. (WTF). “Plentiful legal evidence, acquired in the course of a lawsuit—plus CAIR’s own official filing documents to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) and IRS—make clear that CAIR has engaged in a thinly-disguised money laundering operation,” David Reaboi, vice president for strategic communications at the Center for Security Policy, told The Daily Caller. (They’ve got more flexibility with folks to show them the ropes of fed schemes to use the system against the infidels. –Barb)

Excerpt: ACORN’s former CEO Bertha Lewis urged Africans-Americans to support increased immigration as a strategy to gain political power. “We got some Latino cousins, we got some Asian cousins, we got some Native-American cousins, we got all kind of cousins,” said Lewis, who spoke Thursday at the annual political conference of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Cousins need to get together because if we’re going to be [part of the non-white] majority, it makes sense for black people in this country to get down with immigration reform,” said Lewis, whose ACORN group was formally disbanded in 2010 after a series of scandals. (How much you want to bet this is related to what the leftist college is doing with their no-whites-allowed race talks? –Barb)

Excerpt: This conversation allows people of color to come together and examine how we may have accepted racist attitudes toward other racial groups and our own racial/ethnic communities, and move towards healing and mutual respect. In order to create a safe space, this program is open to people of color only. A similar conversation for white students, faculty and staff is planned for the spring semester.

French diplomat hits soldier who prevented ‘humanitarian aid’ shipment to illegal Bedouin encampment.
Excerpt: Tensions between Israel and the European Union over the EU boycott of Israelis living in Judea and Samaria (Shomron) may be exacerbated by a new incident in which a French diplomat struck an IDF soldier. (The EU is at the vanguard of the One-World Government movement. They are convinced that they and they alone have the moral authority to tell other countries how to run their affairs. The Obama government is part of that movement as well and so are most Western officials. Recently, the local Panamanian papers carried a story you may not have seen. It seems the EU is not happy about a local law stipulating that 75% of all investments in certain things such as logistics and infrastructure, incl items relating to the Canal, must be Panamanian. This law is based in part on past experiences with foreign owned companies that failed in their duty to properly maintain structures, such as the Mexican-built bypasses to the north and south of Panama City. Corruption was suspected in the reporting of tolls collected--which affects the date when the bypasses will become the property of the Panamanian government. But the EU, our Big Brother located 6,000 miles away in Brussels, knows what is best for everyone everywhere in the world. The have told Panama that it must revoke this law or face trade consequences. Free trade is not the goal but rather world domination by a few radical Fabian socialists. The article below shows that the EU also thinks it knows what is best in terms of internal policies of Israel. In a nutshell, the philosophy behind all of this meddling is that sovereignty should be abandoned everywhere in favor of a centralized world oligarchy. Soon, however, the EU will face the judgment for all of its meddling, as the euro takes a tumble. The upcoming elections in Germany could threaten the EU's grip on German pocketbooks. Some day soon it may no longer be possible to overcome German sovereignty to the extent of forcing hard working Germans to keep shoveling money into the bottomless pit that is Greece. That would be the beginning of the end of the grand projet. --Don Hank)

Excerpt: I think the so-called Syrian crisis is working out as most anticipated: 1) In about a year or so Assad and Putin will announce that they “think” they might have in theory rounded up a lot of the WMD, and will soon make plans to turn it over to “authorities,” subject to further negotiations. 2) John Kerry will periodically announce that “his” plan has worked and that Assad still cannot kill with WMD any of those he kills by other means, as Obama adds that Putin still “owns” the crisis and that the U.S. keeps all options on the table.

The power grid as we know it is destined to fail, if you believe the authorities. Who will be there to pick up the pieces and patch it back together?
Excerpt: Outgoing Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano issued an ‘open letter’ to her successor warning that a cyber or physical event that knocks out the power grid will occur – and it is not a question of “if” but “when.” Notoriously known as “Big Sis” for her role at the Orwellian mega-agency, she claims the supposed ‘imminent’ event will pose challenges to all aspects of life, and make powering homes, providing food and facilitating transportation difficult. Napolitano seems so sure, one wonders how she knows that such a catastrophe is not only possible, but sure to happen, as she prepares to officially leave office September 6th. (Per Coast to Coast caller this evening, “They ran drills during 09/11/01, Benghazi, Boston, Oklahoma City, London, and they have a drill set for grid down 11/13/13 and 11/14/13, timed to “coincide” with comet fly by sun so “there is an excuse” but it will be done deliberately by the Regime. So where are the 1% with the mark hiding? –Barb)

Restrained Urgency for Liquified Natural Gas Exports. By Walter Russell Mead
Excerpt: America is slowly getting the ball rolling on the issue: the White House approved a fourth LNG [liquified natural gas] export facility late last week. Caution here is understandable, as exports are likely to drive up domestic natural gas prices and weaken a key competitive advantage American industry has been enjoying these recent years. But let’s not kid ourselves thinking that we’re the only ones itching to sell LNG to Europe and Asia.

Swedish Minister Looks Forward to Europe Turning Into Africa. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: At least Swedish Finance Minister Anders Borg is honest about what he wants and what his government is doing. It doesn’t seem to occur to him that turning Sweden into Nigeria, a country forever on the verge of a civil war between Christians and Muslims, whose only saving grace is its oil industry, and which is best known for its internet scammers, is going to do more than bring colorful clothing to Oslo streets.

San Antonio Discriminates Against Christians
Excerpt: The city of San Antonio, Texas is a beautiful and interesting place to visit. There are plenty of touristy things to do in the city, and a lot of great amusement to be found. However, Christians in this city may soon find themselves living as second class citizens.

Old but interesting: Class(room) Warriors. By John Leo Posted 10/16/05
The cultural left has a new tool for enforcing political conformity in schools of education. It is called dispositions theory, and it was set forth five years ago by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education: Future teachers should be judged by their "knowledge, skills, and dispositions." What are "dispositions"? NCATE's prose made clear that they are the beliefs and attitudes that guide a teacher toward a moral stance. That sounds harmless enough, but it opened a door to reject teaching candidates on the basis of thoughts and beliefs.

Old but interesting: Professors: Just As Liberal, Or More Moderate? By John Leo
Excerpt: Liberals outnumber conservatives by 11-1 among social scientists and 13-1 among humanities professors. 25.5 percent of those who teach sociology identify themselves as Marxist. Self-identified radicals accounted for 19 percent of humanities professors and 24 percent of social scientists.

Being a Christian carries a death sentence now. By Christina Odone
Excerpt: In Pakistan, suicide bombers in Peshawar killed 60 Christians in their local church. In Nairobi, gunmen shot 69 (and counting) shoppers at a mall — but freed the ones who could name the Prophet's mother. What these two tragedies have in common is that the killers were Muslim and the victims, Christian.
