Today's important political news and conservative opinion

Update

Quote
The high sentiments always win in the end, the leaders who offer blood, toil, tears, and sweat always get more out of their followers than those who offer safety and a good time. When it comes to the pinch, human beings are heroic. --George Orwell

General News and Comment

Worth Reading: No, Our Navy is Not Big Enough

Excerpt: On its one-way express elevator ride from the penthouse of “America’s Paper of Record” down to the sub-sub-basement of “America’s Paper of the Ridiculous,” the New York Times recently published an Op-Ed from that world class military analyst and strategist, Gregg Easterbrook, concerning the complete adequacy of our country’s Navy, Our Navy is Big Enough.1 The estimable Mr. Easterbrook’s qualifications to have an opinion on Naval structure and strategy? He blogs about football, contributes to The Atlantic, and once gave a lecture at the Naval War College. No I don’t know what the subject matter was, but, clearly, we’re dealing with a first class military mind here, one replete with insight and advice so valuable we should engrave it on golden plaques, and post it on the walls of the Pentagon. (Tom Kratman is a retired USA LtCol, an occasional contributor to this blog, and an outstand author of military science fiction, including the A Desert Called Peace series. http://www.amazon.com/Desert-Called-Peace-Carrera-Book-ebook/dp/B00B5HJOFY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1426715332&sr=8-1&keywords=Peace+Kratman ~Bob)

Government Covers for Hillary! State Department says She Never Signed a Separation Agreement.
Excerpt: Look, the White House and the State Department can spin and juke all they want. The honest and obvious answer here is that Hillary Clinton purposely broke every rule dealing with oversight that she thought she could get away with. She knew the rules on handling government emails, especially as it pertained to classified information, and she chose to ignore them. Had a lesser operative been the one to orchestrate these maneuvers, they’d be on their way to prison for a few years. Instead, Hillary Clinton may still get a shot at being President!
The media and the liberals may end up winning this fight and convincing most people that this little scandal was no big deal, but they’re wrong. It’s more evidence of what we should all already know to be true. Hillary Clinton is a devious, egomaniacal criminal… and she’d be a disaster as President.

Groups want digital copies of Hillary Clinton emails. By Josh Gerstein
Excerpt: A coalition of openness, historical and journalistic organizations is asking the State Department and the National Archives to attempt to retrieve digital copies of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails. In a letter sent Tuesday to current Secretary of State John Kerry and Archivist of the United States David Ferriero, the groups complain that Clinton jeopardized the integrity of important government records by conducting her official business on a private email account and returning selected emails—in response to a State Department request—almost two years after leaving office.

Tom Cotton calls for ‘global military dominance’ in maiden Senate speech. By Mike DeBonis
Excerpt: Over the course of just a few days last week, Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) went from relatively anonymous freshman senator to what seemed like the tip of every tongue in Washington -- thanks to the letter he wrote and got 46 fellow Republicans to join, warning the ruling Iranian regime to be wary of negotiating a nuclear deal with President Obama. But here's a fun fact: Cotton made his big splash before even giving his first speech on the Senate floor. That occasion came late Monday, when Cotton delivered his "maiden speech," which is typically given after a period of silence and as a statement of principles or objectives rather than a comment on the partisan issue of the day. (In the Massachusetts Senate, the rule of thumb was freshmen kept quiet for six months and gave their maiden speeches on a local issue. But they were debating resolutions advising the US Government what to do in Vietnam, which is not the job of the state legislature. So I gave mine the third day I was there. ~Bob)

On Saint Patrick’s Day, the U.S. Has Much to Learn From Ireland. Like how not to chase off multi-national corporations
Excerpt: While Saint Patrick’s Day gives people all over the world a reason to be Irish for a day, it might be better for the United States to move permanently ‘Irish’ when it comes to corporate income tax rates. The United States currently has the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world at 35 percent federally, and reaches almost 40 percent once the average state corporate income tax rate is included.... Meanwhile, in addition to maintaining an uncompetitive corporate income tax rate, the United States is also one of only seven of the 34 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries still operating on a worldwide corporate income tax structure. (And he wants to increase it....Barb)

Ruinous 'Compassion.' By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: It is fascinating to see brilliant people belatedly discover the obvious – and to see an even larger number of brilliant people never discover the obvious. A recent story in a San Francisco newspaper says that some restaurants and grocery stores in Oakland’s Chinatown have closed after the city’s minimum wage was raised. Other small businesses there are not sure they are going to survive, since many depend on a thin profit margin and a high volume of sales. At an angry meeting between local small business owners and city officials, the local organization that had campaigned for the higher minimum wage was absent. They were probably some place congratulating themselves on having passed a humane “living wage” law. The group most affected was also absent – inexperienced and unskilled young people, who need a job to get some experience, even more than they need the money.

Worth Reading: Chicago Fray. By John Stossel
Excerpt: Rahm Emanuel, current mayor of my old hometown, Chicago, is not a gentle soul. But he’s smarter than his big-spending predecessor, Richard M. Daley, and the union pawn, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, who becomes the new mayor if he beats Emanuel in a run-off election April 7.
Emanuel was the tough Obama chief of staff who reportedly stabbed a table with a steak knife as he listed political enemies. He relishes conflict and famously said that in politics, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste.” That comment scared libertarians and conservatives, who know that government usually uses crises as excuses to increase its power.

Lynch Faces New Hurdle In Confirmation

Excerpt: “I think they’ve come out the way they have because they have this general view that a president has the ability to pick his nominees,” he said. “But he doesn’t have the ability to pick nominees who aren’t going to enforce the law and abide by the rule of law. Frankly, the non-answers she gave indicate that she’s going to be just like Eric Holder in helping the president bend, break and change the law whenever he wants to.”

Cheney: Obama Damage To America 'Tragedy.'' I see the worst president of my lifetime'
Excerpt: In a new interview for the April issue of Playboy, Cheney repeatedly tore into Obama on a wide array of issues, including the racially charged riots in FergusonMissouri, and foreign policy. “I look at Barack Obama and I see the worst president of my lifetime, without question,” Cheney told journalist James Rosen. “I used to have significant criticism of Jimmy Carter, but compared to Barack Obama and the damage he is doing to the nation—it’s a tragedy.”

FCC Commish Pai: Broadband Bill Taxes Going Up In Months
Excerpt: Tuesday on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show,” FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai said because of the new FCC net neutrality rules passed in February that reclassified broadband as a telecommunications, which placed it under Title II regulations and taxes of the Communications Act of 1934, “your bills are going to go up.” Pai said, “Most immediately I think what is going to happen is that the FCC has specifically opened the door to a increase on the tax that is going to be placed on broadband. We are waiting for a joint board to recommend to us on April 7 how big that tax is going to be.” (Anything POTUS or Regime touches to effect Command Economy à la Soviets, prices GO UP (Let's see, credit card/banking fees, health insurance, now internet.). Squeezing the "folks," who, mesmerized in their electronic devices, keep taking it. He is replacing a free market system with a contrived/dictated Command Economy through regulations, not legislation...and history shows a command economic system does not work without capitalist incentives. Even the Russians and Chinese learned this. --Barb)

A Sunshine Week surprise: White House exempts executive office from records requests. By Josh Hicks
Excerpt: The timing of the move caused an uproar among transparency advocates, who are in the middle of Sunshine Week, a seven-day effort to promote open government and greater compliance with the Freedom of Information Act. The law allows the public to access federal documents with limited exceptions.

ECB's Celebration of Its New $1.4 Billion Tower Is Spoiled by Protesters
Excerpt: Anti-austerity protesters seeking to spoil the inauguration of the European Central Bank’s new headquarters in Frankfurt’s east end set vehicles alight, erected barricades and left a trail of destruction across the city. Police deployed water cannons to restore calm and keep the demonstrators at bay in the area surrounding the 1.3 billion-euro ($1.4 billion) tower, after setting up barbed wire and road blocks. (Economic illiterates, willing to accept future disaster to eliminate any pain today. They are in the ascendancy throughout the West. ~Bob)

For anyone really following the Russia saga: Sources are still reporting that Viktor Zolotov is dead. If this is true…wow. It’s pretty telling on what’s happening. http://yournewswire.com/putins-chief-bodyguard-killed/ (Glenn reports the Zolotov was about to be named head of FSB (KGB) and would have had access to "the nuclear 'black box.'" --Barb)

Gun News

"Gun-Free Zone" New York City Experiences 22% Increase in Shootings
http://lastresistance.com/10647/gun-free-zone-new-york-city-experiences-22-increase-in-shootings/
Excerpt: New York City is supposed to be this really safe place to live, because of their draconian gun control laws. But already this year, they’ve had to deal with 184 shooting victims, which represents a 22% increase compared to last year at this time. (Gun Free Zones are really Criminal Empowerment Zones. ~Bob)

JPD make arrests; Three charged in shooting and home invasion
Excerpt: Joplin Police found a suspect dead at the scene of a home invasion. Officers responded to multiple calls about gunshots at 1616 West 4th Street just after 5:00 am. It was there they found 32-year-old Michael Dean of Joplin dead from a gunshot wound. Dean was a suspect in the home invasion.

Here’s What Really Happened in California When Gun Sales DOUBLED
Excerpt: As we all know, it’s part of liberal dogma that gun ownership causes crime. It’s right up there with the idea that taxes create jobs, the theory that government can solve everything and that William Jefferson Clinton didn’t really have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky. And, like most liberal dogma, it simply isn’t true. ... You mean to tell me that homicides in California dropped to a 20-year low in 2014? Yes, apparently legal handgun sales are negatively correlated with murder. Who would have thought, except for everybody who doesn’t vote Democrat?

Race Card News

Worth reading: Selma and Voting Rights Triumph. By Walter E. Williams
Excerpt: Black leaders stress the importance of political power and getting out the vote, but we might ask how important political power is to the ordinary black person. As a start toward answering that question, we might examine black life in cities where blacks hold considerable political power. Detroit is the nation’s most dangerous city. Rounding out Forbes magazine’s 2013 list of the 10 most dangerous cities are Oakland, California; St. Louis; Memphis, Tennessee; Stockton, California; Birmingham, Alabama; Baltimore; Cleveland; Atlanta; and Milwaukee. According to a recent American Community Survey, by the U.S. Census Bureau, the 10 poorest cities with populations of more than 250,000 are Detroit, with 33 percent of its residents below the poverty line; Buffalo, New York, 30 percent; Cincinnati, 28 percent; Cleveland, 27 percent; Miami, 27 percent; St. Louis, 27 percent; El Paso, Texas, 26 percent; Milwaukee, 26 percent; Philadelphia, 25 percent; and Newark, New Jersey, 24 percent. In addition to poverty, there is grossly inferior education and high welfare dependency in these cities. The most common feature of these cities is that for decades, all of them have had Democratic administrations.

Most Voters Think Media Wrong on Race Shootings, Put Police At Risk
Excerpt: Following the shooting last week of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri, most voters think the media is overemphasizing shootings by the police and making their jobs more dangerous. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 24% of Likely U.S. Voters think white police officers shooting innocent black people is a bigger problem in America today than blacks shooting each other. Sixty-two percent (62%) believe black people shooting other blacks is the bigger problem.

Excerpt: "You’ve got the National Action Network which has been incredibly effective as a political and PR wing, typically engaging in shakedown and smear.... You’ve got Nation of Islam which appears to be acting as the muscle, because they’re also bringing in elements of the new Black Panther party.... And you’ve got the SEIU handling all the organization." (Also mentions the efforts at conversion of inmates to Islam, Tides Foundation. --Barb)

Washington Times: George Soros Funded Ferguson Protests
http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/george-soros-funded-ferguson-protests/2015/01/15/id/618934/#ixzz3Uk4QopgS
Excerpt: Liberal billionaire George Soros has played a critical role in financing the Ferguson, Missouri, protest movement, giving at least $33 million in one year to back already established groups that "emboldened" on-the-ground activists there, The Washington Times reports. Soros' backing "gave rise to a combustible protest movement that transformed a one-day criminal event in Missouri into a 24-hour-a-day cause celebré," the paper said. A plethora of groups shared funding from Soros and closely collaborated, referring to each other's news columns and creating in effect an "echo chamber" of sorts using Twitter and Facebook, the Times reports.

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

Excerpt: The SGR clearly isn’t working; the reason Congress won’t allow the cuts to take place is because too many seniors would lose access to physicians willing to treat them. What is needed is fundamental reform. But a good first step down that road would be to repeal the SGR and pay for it with several costly offsets. Two good ideas that President Obama has supported in the past include: 1) reducing the percentage of Medicaid provider taxes that states are allowed to use to qualify for a federal match; and 2) eliminating some of the Medigap Supplemental Plans that everyone agrees leads wasteful spending.

Undocumented Democrat News
Excerpt: When the workers arrived here, according to the indictment, they learned that Upani had no positions and were forced to search for jobs elsewhere. Majety, 46, of Spring City, Chester County, typically charged each worker about $4,000 for the visa and kept 20 percent of any money the worker earned. Workers who could not find employment had to pay him extra to keep their visas active. (H-1B is a good thing, but the companies must be monitored. Scum everywhere. ~Bob)

"You're Greener than Gore" News

Obama’s Law School Professor: EPA Is ‘Burning The Constitution’
Excerpt: “EPA possesses only the authority granted to it by Congress,” Tribe told lawmakers in a hearing Tuesday. “Its gambit here raises serious questions under the separation of powers… because EPA is attempting to exercise lawmaking power that belongs to Congress and judicial power that belongs to the federal courts.” “Burning the Constitution should not become part of our national energy policy,” Tribe added.

WaPo Fact Checker: Kerry’s claim that he organized the ‘very first’ hearings on climate change. By Glenn Kessler
Excerpt: Gore might have bragging rights about organizing one of the first hearings, but not Kerry. Kerry was not even a participant in the most important hearing of that time; he simply spoke at a hearing that took place the following year. And yet, like Brian Williams claiming to have come under fire in Iraq, Kerry has repeatedly placed himself at the center of the action—and the narrative. He earns Four Pinocchios.

Excerpt: You would think that SXSW would be a place where some of the brightest people could come together and talk about cutting edge solutions to the world’s problems....The Chicago Tribune reported, “Former Vice President Al Gore on Friday called on SXSW attendees to punish climate-change deniers, saying politicians should pay a price for rejecting ‘accepted science.'” Glenn Beck: "What kind of fascistic country are we turning into?” (The Left's favorite debating technique--silence the opposition. ~Bob)

Democrats War on the Poor: Energy Production Decreases as Federal Government Land Grab Increases
Excerpt: Federal land ownership in the United States continues to grow despite the federal government already owning more than half of most of the western states. While some have advocated for the return of this land to the states or protect it from being closed off from oil and gas operations, the Obama Administration has worked just as hard to increase the federal government's land grab, says Lloyd Bentsen, senior research fellow at the National Center for Policy Analysis. By contrast, As President Bush opened 4 million acres of land in Alaska for drilling and exploration. Seven years later, President Obama has proposed to set aside 12 million acres in Alaska, designating it as "wilderness" and off-limits to up to 42 billion barrels of oil.

"Arab Spring" Rolls On: 2 gunmen captured following deadly Tunisian museum attack; 1 may still be at large
Excerpt: Two of the gunmen involved in an attack on a popular museum in Tunisia Wednesday -- which left 21 dead, including 17 tourists -- have been captured and one may still be at large, the country's Ministry of the Interior said. The gunmen had opened fire on the National Bardo Museum in Tunis earlier Wednesday. Authorities said at least 21 people were killed, including 17 tourists. At least 21 people were wounded, according to a Fox News source in Tunis. (Tunisia is where the "Arab Spring," much praised by liberals and the media, began. And the innocent death toll continues to mount. ~Bob)

60% Say Congress Needs to Sign Off on Any Iranian Nuke Deal
Excerpt: Voters remain lukewarm about the nuclear deal the Obama administration is negotiating with Iran, and most think it needs to be approved by Congress. But they aren’t happy with the letter 47 Republican senators sent to the Iranian government putting the current negotiations in question either. (Since when do Democrats care about what a majority thinks in this once-democratic country? ~Bob)

Iran’s Supreme Leader: Jihad Will Continue Until America is No More
Excerpt: Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, all but said on Sunday that negotiations over the country’s illicit nuclear program are over and that the Islamic Republic’s ideals include destroying America. “Those [Iranians] who want to promote negotiation and surrender to the oppressors and blame the Islamic Republic as a warmonger in reality commit treason,” Khamenei told a meeting of members of parliament, according to the regime’s Fars News Agency.

Worth reading: The Cotton Letter’s Inconvenient Truth. By Jonah Goldberg
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/415560/cotton-letters-inconvenient-truth-jonah-goldberg
Excerpt: It has been an Iranian tradition since 1979 to end Friday prayers with chants of “Death to America!” In a purely rational world, that would be all one needed to know that Iran is not a reliable negotiating partner. Alas, we do not live in such a world. But there’s more evidence. Iran, according to our State Department, has been the chief exporter of terrorism for the last three decades. It has worked closely with al-Qaeda, facilitating its attacks on America and our allies. Most of the September 11 hijackers traveled through Iran with the help of the Iranian government. U.S. judges have ruled that Iran was an accomplice in the 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings in East Africa and the September 11 attacks. During the Iraq War, Iran was responsible for numerous American deaths.

The Big Losers of the Israeli Election are Extremists and the Pundits. By Micah Halpern
Excerpt: Contrary to what pundits and skeptics and newspapers projected, Bibi and his Likud did not take a savage beating, but rather trounced the opposition. There should be no doubt at this stage just how corrupt media coverage of this election, which captured headlines around the world, was. Someone started drinking the anti-Bibi Kool-Aid and everyone else sipped along. Everyone, that is, except for Israeli voters. The end result of this election is not a condemnation of the polls and the pollsters but rather of the interpreters—the analysts and the pundits and those who supposedly understand what makes Israelis tick. Israelis haven’t changed, the pundits just wanted them to change.

White House: John Kerry Called Netanyahu To Congratulate Him On Election Victory. By Charlie Spiering
Excerpt: “The United States and this administration is deeply concerned about rhetoric that seeks to marginalize Arab-Israeli citizens,” he said. “It undermines the values and Democratic ideals that have been important to our democracy and an important part of what binds the United States and Israel together.”(Any comment about how Jews and Christians are "marginalized" (read Murdered) in Muslim majority lands? ~Bob)

Petty and Petulant: Obama’s rude snub of Netanyahu. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: Unlike Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and British Prime Minister David Cameron, who, as heads of state of friendly countries are expected to do, offered personal congratulations to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his victory, President Obama has not. First, an aide was dispatched to say the administration was giving Netanyahu “space” to form a government. (There is virtually no chance he won’t be able to, with a margin of victory this large.) (Obama: Alienating allies and enabling enemies. ~Bob)

Obama Won’t Congratulate Bibi — But He Congratulated Erdogan, Sisi, Rouhani … and Putin!
http://pjmedia.com/tatler/2015/03/18/obama-wont-congratulate-bibi-but-he-congratulated-erdogan-sisi-rouhani-and-putin/

Bibi Wins, BO Loses
Excerpt: Benjamin Netanyahu stormed to an unexpected victory in Israel’s elections Tuesday, securing a fourth term for the prime minister. One key takeaway is that Barack Obama’s looming nuclear deal with Iran is very unpopular across the political spectrum in Israel, and it – combined with overarching security concerns – likely swung the election. Defeating the deal’s biggest critic was a no-go for Israeli voters, which means Netanyahu’s win is a big loss for Obama.
But America’s community organizer has never been gracious to opponents or humble in defeat, so the Israeli commando shouldn’t expect any congratulatory phone calls.

Excerpt: Kinzinger told Fox “this is a huge, huge issue.” “I mean, I don’t know at least of overtly before the U.S. government has ever funded an organization that funded a subsidiary whose sole purpose was to overthrow an elected government of an ally, of a friend. I mean, Benjamin Netanyahu is not a major opponent of the United States. (I will believe "investigation" when I see someone in Congress with a set of cojones. --Barb)

Jindal: Reform Immigration Rules To Exclude Islamic Radicals
Excerpt: U.S. citizenship rules should be updated to exclude Islamic radicals, such as the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, says potential 2016 candidate Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. “It is common sense to say we’re going to prioritize [among immigrants], and if you say you want to be American… we’re going to prioritize you over someone who doesn’t want to be American,” he said at an March 16 event hosted by the American Action Forum. “The Islamic State I believe is pretty unambiguous… they are terroristic thugs,” he said. (According to Red State US Congress had voted to send Iran 11.9 billion dollars by June 2015; FLOTUS celebrating Persian holiday at "the people's house" (No longer WHITE HOUSE, note) and POTUS having MB for lunch on taxpayer nickel. --Barb)
Obama Removes Iran from Terror List, Praises it for Fighting Terrorism. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: You know the country responsible for killing hundreds of Marines, which provided sanctuary to Al Qaeda and whose terrorist proxies helped give Al Qaeda the skills to carry out 9/11? They’re no longer terrorists. Sure their terrorist groups currently control parts of Lebanon and Yemen, but they’re not terrorists. Because if Iran was a state sponsor of terror, then Obama letting them have the bomb might look bad. This way it’s fine. (Thanks again to the SOS guys for passing on this article. I read this and just go into shock. Even for Obama, this is over the top, way over the top. So Iran is now our trusted buddy? Absolutely mind blowing. --Del)

Congress: Read Article III of the Constitution, It’s Treasonous to Give $12 Billion to IranAmerica’s Sworn Enemy
Congress authorized the State Department to transfer $11.9 billion in cash payments to Iran by June 2015. Transferring any form of aid/comfort to Iran, a sworn enemy of the United States, is a treasonous act.... Under Barack Hussein Obama the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the White House, multiple layers of government, and is largely directing American domestic and foreign policy.

The Niqab is the Flag of Islamism. By Tarek Fatah
Excerpt: In Khaled Hosseini's soul-piercing novel A Thousand Splendid Suns, the character Nana, a poor, unwed mother, tells her five-year-old daughter, Mariam: "Learn this now and learn it well, my daughter: Like a compass needle that points north, a man's accusing finger always finds a woman. Always. You remember that, Mariam." Hosseini's best-selling novel was about life in Afghanistan, but in the 30 words above he sums up the way men govern the lives of women across much of the Muslim world. Like Mariam, millions of Muslim girls are told very early in life by their mothers that their place in society is one of submission; submission not to God, but to man. (Thousand Splendid Suns is terrific. I highly recommend it. ~Bob)

The Real War on Women: British Girls Raped by Muslim Gangs on "Industrial Scale." By Soeren Kern
Excerpt: "Between acts of abuse sometimes stretching over a number of days, the Oxford men ensured girls were guarded so that they could not escape. In addition to being abused in various locations in Oxford, some of the girls were taken to other towns and cities such as London and Bournemouth for the same purpose." — Oxfordshire Serious Case Review. "I turned up at the police station at 2/3am, blood all over me, soaked through my trousers to the crotch. They dismissed it as me being naughty, a nuisance." — Victim's testimony, Oxfordshire Serious Case Review. "I made a complaint about a man who trafficked me from a children's home. He was arrested, released and trafficked me again." — Victim's testimony, Oxfordshire Serious Case Review. Nearly 400 British girls as young as eleven are believed to have been sexually exploited by Muslim rape gangs in Oxfordshire over the past 15 years, according to a chilling new report. It charges local officials with repeatedly ignoring the abuse due to a "culture of denial."
