General News and Comment

Worth Reading: The Vindication of George W. Bush. By Ben Voth
Excerpt: This week at Hofstra University, academics and political experts are gathering to discuss the meaning of the presidency of George W. Bush. President Bush remains an enigmatic yet vital figure in American politics. For liberals, he is the antithesis of good policy and for many conservatives, he represents undue political compromise to be avoided. This highly conflicted sense of 2001-2009 in the American presidency, jeopardizes not simply the history of one President but a larger sense of how success is achieved in politics and how the 21st century might become far more benign and positive than anything we might presently imagine. President Bush was remarkably successful in agendas surrounding global genocide. Those successes and our present efforts to recover that accurate history constant the prelude to a potential end of genocide as a reasonable global norm like we see presently with groups such as ISIS. ... Bush: “If American forces step back before Baghdad is secure, the Iraqi government would be overrun by extremists on all sides. We could expect an epic battle between Shia extremists backed by Iran, and Sunni extremists aided by al Qaeda and supporters of the old regime. A contagion of violence could spill out across the country -- and in time, the entire region could be drawn into the conflict. For America, this is a nightmare scenario. For the enemy, this is the objective. Chaos is the greatest ally -- their greatest ally in this struggle. And out of chaos in Iraq would emerge an emboldened enemy with new safe havens, new recruits, new resources, and an even greater determination to harm America. To allow this to happen would be to ignore the lessons of September the 11th and invite tragedy. Ladies and gentlemen, nothing is more important at this moment in our history than for America to succeed in the Middle East, to succeed in Iraq and to spare the American people from this danger.” (What I find the most interesting part of all in this is the quote about what would happen if we left Iraq too early. Read that, then consider what we watched happen there, and then ask if Mr. Bush was really as stupid as all his detractors make him out to be. Not that I don't agree with some criticisms of him, I certainly do; but he wasn't the bungling incompetent that the Left insists on portraying at every turn. And comparing his foreign policy record with that of the current President, and how nations regarded the US at the end of Bush's terms and how they regard us now, presents another argument about just who was better at foreign policy. Lastly, Mr. Bush's behavior in general since leaving the White House has been nothing but class, not a syllable of criticism of his successor, but lots of appearances to support troops everywhere from airports to the hospitals where the victims of Ft Hood were. He deserves respect for all that. --Del)

Obama's Generals. By Jonathan Keiler
Excerpt: President Obama likes to fancy himself a modern incarnation of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was a wartime president who famously struggled to find generals that shared his strategic vision of victory. Obama also seems to be in search of generals who share his strategic vision. But where Lincoln sought fighting generals who wanted to win, Obama has tried to create a politically sensitive and strategically befuddled military.
Obama’s impact on the Pentagon has been both social and operational. (Points out that whoever is President has a lot of influence on which generals get promoted, which get retired, and how a very significant amount of influence gets exerted on the military overall. Obama doesn't care much for the military in the first place, doesn't know or understand much about war and military actions in the second place, but does have very strong ideas on social matters (like women in combat, etc.) and how to interact with Muslim countries. All of which adds up to a real mess for our military, complicated by the bad tendency of politics and complacency to become far too influential in peacetime military. (That's always happened, we can go back to Billy Mitchell for an example.) We can only hope that in 2016 a very different leadership will start doing the things that rebuild a strong military. --Del)

Integrating women into combat reduces effectiveness, harms unit cohesion. By Jacqueline Klimas
Excerpt: As the American military prepares to open all combat positions to women by 2016, a British report found that integrating women into combat would reduce effectiveness in battle and could harm unit cohesion. The British report, released in December, found that physiological differences put women at a disadvantage in both strength-based and aerobic fitness tests. Even women who are able to overcome the physiological disadvantage will likely get injured more easily or get tired quicker, making them easier targets and poorer marksmen in combat. (Here comes another input on women in combat. Not that it'll stop the PC mania to get women into infantry units. So far the Marines are still holding out, no changes in any physical fitness test for women candidates, but it still seems like at some point the Army will collapse and stick women into infantry units. And that is going to turn out very badly at some point, but it won't be for years because we won't be sending any regular infantry into combat for a long time now. --Del)

Worth Reading: Public Servant - The Complete Definition. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: By the letter of the definition for public servant - (a person) holding a government job by election or appointment - Hillary Clinton has technically been a public servant. Talk aplenty there is she wants to again be a public servant - as president. (When has Hillary ever been concerned with people other than what they can do for her especially at election time.

Worth Reading: Former Intelligence Officer: The Utter Stupidity of Hillary's Actions. By Joe A. Gilbertson
Excerpt: However, the Secretary of State of the United States of America is the number two intelligence target IN THE WORLD, behind only her boss, the President. To tap into her communications guarantees lavish rewards and promotions to the intelligence team who does it. All eyes are on her, like vultures, waiting. Yes, it really works this way. An email system such as the one described is considered "easy pickings." After seeing the details in the press, my first conclusion is this: Russians and the Chinese were reading her emails. In real time. I'm not saying maybe or perhaps. They were.

Why Was CIA Director Petraeus Required to Sign Separation Form If Secretary Clinton Was Not? By Andrew C. Mccarthy
Excerpt: In my column on the plea agreement the Obama Justice Department allowed David Petreaus to enter after it was discovered that he mishandled classified information, I noted that he had been required to sign a separation agreement when he left the CIA. It is called a “Security Exit Form” and is obviously the CIA version of the State Department departure form described in Jim’s post (and linked in Shannen’s column) that Secretary Clinton should have signed upon leaving government service.

Washington Examiner Asked Clinton Donors Why The Gave. By Mark Tapscott
Excerpt: Foreign donors are refusing to say why they sent millions of dollars in 2014 to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation. Of 38 donors listed on the foundation's website who were contacted by the Washington Examiner,18 declined to answer at all, and the other 18 either responded suspiciously or stuck to generalities and refused to address follow-up questions. The importance of who gave to the foundation and why was highlighted this week when CBS News revealed that one donor in 2013 was Rilin Enterprises. Rilin is headed by Wang Wienlang, a Chinese businessman who was invited to join the National Peoples' Congress as a delegate in the same year as he made the donation.

A bit over-hyped: Hillary Caught Red-Handed in Massive New Criminal Scandal
Excerpt: Democrats are even more afraid now that the possibility exists that her scandals have a bit of crossover, according to Breitbart. Communications involving undisclosed foreign donations would not be something she’d want any emails to reveal, especially knowing that her records would eventually be requested and thoroughly searched. A private email server where you get to pick the people who sort through what’s personal and what’s business-related would be quite convenient in an effort to cover up past donors to her foundation. “And there’s a lot of Democrats, by the way, who are saying, ‘follow the money.’ A lot of Democrats are really worried about the Foundation, that’s what they’re really worried about,” said National Journal senior political columnist and editorial director Ron Fournier. (But I suspect this may really be why she wanted her own server so she could delete anything she claimed was personal. ~Bob)

David Letterman Recounts Marine’s Injuries at the Hands of Muslim Jihadists and Leaves Audience Speechless
http://freedomoutpost.com/2015/03/david-letterman-recounts-marines-injuries-at-the-hands-of-muslim-jihadists-leaves-audience-speechless/
Excerpt: Medal of Honor Recipient Cpl. Kyle Carpenter, a US Marine, had his injuries described which he suffered at the hands of Muslim jihadists in Afghanistan to the audience of David Letterman on his television show last year. The audience was speechless, and you will be too.

Sen. Ted Cruz will announce White House bid at Liberty University. By Robert Costa and Katie Zezima PM
Excerpt: Sen. Ted Cruz, the combative conservative who has made liberty the clarion call of his politics, will announce his intention to pursue a presidential bid Monday morning at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., according to a campaign adviser. The announcement by Cruz (R-Tex.) will make him the first major 2016 contender to formally declare a presidential bid.

Who’s funding the president’s legacy?
Excerpt: A bipartisan group of senators thinks the people deserve to know more.
One of the strange things about these historical repositories is that private fundraising generates most of their money. Indeed, presidents, especially in their second term, spend a lot of time soliciting donations for what will become a temple to their time in office. Someone who needs a presidential favor could do far worse than drop a few hundred thousand on a president’s library. It was no doubt purely coincidental that Presidents Bill Clinton and George H. W. Bush both pardoned relatives of people who supported their libraries.

Important: A colossal waste of money. U.S. Reps. Gwen Moore and Mark Pocan voucher school investigation a waste of money. By Marty Lueken
Excerpt: Even if the members do not know this, the GAO does. It evaluated the MPCP in 2001 and concluded that its students came from poorer backgrounds. It found that these students were performing more poorly than other public school students before they enrolled in a voucher school, but that, after enrolling in a voucher school, performed about the same or better than public school students in tested subjects. The GAO found no evidence that students were harmed by voucher programs. Martin F. Lueken is the education research director at the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty, a nonprofit law and policy center based in Milwaukee. (He holds a PhD in education policy. In Sundays Wisconsin State Journal, he reports that a Harvard and Brookings Institute study found that "minority students who received a school voucher in to attend private elementary schools in 1997 were, as of 2013, 10% more likely to enroll in college and 35% more likely than their peers in public schools to obtain a bachelor's degree." For Democrats, if it means votes and dollars from teachers' unions, poor minority kids can go pound sand. ~Bob)

An insult to Gomer...

In College and Hiding From Scary Ideas. By Judith Shulevitz
Excerpt: But why are students so eager to self-infantilize? Their parents should probably share the blame. Eric Posner, a professor at the University of Chicago Law School, wrote on Slate last month that although universities cosset students more than they used to, that’s what they have to do, because today’s undergraduates are more puerile than their predecessors. “Perhaps overprogrammed children engineered to the specifications of college admissions offices no longer experience the risks and challenges that breed maturity,” he wrote. But “if college students are children, then they should be protected like children.”

Most Americans’ Perfect Presidential Candidate Will Change Obama’s Policies, According to New Poll — and Fox News Didn’t Conduct It. By Dave Urbanski
Excerpt: More from CNN about the poll results: Three statements generated wide-reaching support. Fifty-nine percent of Americans say they’d like a candidate who has been in the public eye as a political leader for many years over one who’s new to the political scene. Further, 59% say they prefer a candidate with executive experience over one who’s worked as a legislator, and 57% say their perfect Obama successor would change most of the policies enacted by Obama’s administration.

Excerpt: Personally, liberal students scare the shit out of me. I know how to get conservative students to question their beliefs and confront awful truths, and I know that, should one of these conservative students make a facebook page calling me a communist or else seek to formally protest my liberal lies, the university would have my back. I would not get fired for pissing off a Republican, so long as I did so respectfully, and so long as it happened in the course of legitimate classroom instruction. The same cannot be said of liberal students. All it takes is one slip—not even an outright challenging of their beliefs, but even momentarily exposing them to any uncomfortable thought or imagery—and that’s it, your classroom is triggering, you are insensitive, kids are bringing mattresses to your office hours and there’s a twitter petition out demanding you chop off your hand in repentance. Is paranoid? Yes, of course. But paranoia isn’t uncalled for within the current academic job climate.

Gun News

The same folks who want Iran to have nuclear weapons don't want you and me to have a gun. Let that sink in

Man shot dead in Munroe Falls home identified as Kent police officer's ex-boyfriend
Excerpt: A Kent Police officer is on paid administrative leave after a fatal shooting at her home in Munroe Falls. ... A man's voice is heard in the background, and the woman apologizes, crying and screaming. There is a dog barking in the background, and the man asks the woman if she wants to die. The barking and screaming continues for nearly 5 minutes. Then, pops can be heard, and then silence. The woman said, "Please help me. I shot him. I shot him."

Worth Reading: In personnel file, a fuller picture of Matt Kenny, officer involved in fatal Madison shooting. By Doug Erickson, Wisconsin State Journal
Excerpt: The letter is one of 46 accolades in Kenny’s personnel file. The thick folder documents his 13 years with the Madison Police Department, from green recruit in 2002 through the later years as he became increasingly relied upon to train new officers and his peers in first-aid and firearms. ... Kenny had responded that evening to a disturbance following reports of Robinson running in traffic and battering people. Madison police officials have said Robinson punched Kenny in the head and knocked him off balance before Kenny fatally shot him. A Robinson family member has since said Robinson took hallucinogenic mushrooms earlier on March 6, lending credence to statements by friends that his behavior was out of character.

Austin lawyer Adam Reposa says he put up ‘white people’ stickers
Excerpt: An Austin lawyer is claiming responsibility for several stickers placed on East Austin businesses that claimed they were “exclusively for white people.” Adam Reposa posted the video on YouTube and made a statement on Facebook saying he was trying promote the issue of gentrification in East Austin. (Warning: The video contains explicit language)

Federal Judge Threatens Sanctions Against DOJ for Perjury in Obama Amnesty Case
Excerpt: In December, U.S. District Court Judge Arthur Schwab ruled that Obama had acted unconstitutionally following his speech on executive amnesty. Just weeks ago, a Texas federal judge Andrew Hanen ordered an investigation into Obama's illegal executive amnesty. Days later an appeal was filed against the injunction imposed against the unconstitutional amnesty put forward by Barack Obama. Now, Judge Hanen is threatening sanctions against the Obama Justice Department for committing perjury in is courtroom.

"You're Greener than Gore" News

Worth Reading: Why I am a Climate Change Skeptic
Excerpt: [Editor’s Note: Patrick Moore, Ph.D., has been a leader in international environmentalism for more than 40 years. He cofounded Greenpeace and currently serves as chair of Allow Golden Rice. Moore received the 2014 Speaks Truth to Power Award at the Ninth International Conference on Climate Change, July 8, in Las Vegas. Watch his presentation about this piece at the video player to the left.] I am skeptical humans are the main cause of climate change and that it will be catastrophic in the near future. There is no scientific proof of this hypothesis, yet we are told “the debate is over” and “the science is settled.” My skepticism begins with the believers’ certainty they can predict the global climate with a computer model. The entire basis for the doomsday climate change scenario is the hypothesis increased atmospheric carbon dioxide due to fossil fuel emissions will heat the Earth to unlivable temperatures. In fact, the Earth has been warming very gradually for 300 years, since the Little Ice Age ended, long before heavy use of fossil fuels. (Dr. Moore's credentials are impeccable, and his use of basic facts about climate and CO2 levels is straightforward and easy to understand. And if the planet is warming (the last 17 years of satellite data say it isn't) there is no way for humans to stop it or even slow it, but the oceans will not rise six feet or anything like that in some sudden disaster. Whatever happens, humans will have to adapt, maybe a bunch of low-lying countries will have to learn what the Dutch learned centuries ago and build dikes to protect their lands. But going crazy about "carbon credits" will accomplish nothing other than to make the cost of living higher in industrialized countries and make the people in charge of it billionaires. --Del)

Important: Produce the Fatwa. By Thomas Joscelyn
Excerpt: With his very next words, Obama said the following: “Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has issued a fatwa against the development of nuclear weapons, and President Rouhani has said that Iran would never develop a nuclear weapon.” Of course, the existence of Khamenei’s alleged fatwa is hotly disputed. If the president is so confident it exists, then his administration should be able to produce a copy of the fatwa, revealing when it was written and what it says. The Washington Post’s fact checker went looking for the fatwa in November 2013, as administration officials were citing it at the time, and couldn’t find it. (So Kerry has "Great Respect" for a fatwa that he probably hasn't seen and that may not exist. Wonderful. ~Bob)

Iranian Vulnerability: Their nuclear progress can still be stopped. By Lee Smith
Excerpt: Many nuclear experts, Middle East analysts, and journalists argue, after all, that an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities would set the program back only two to three years. Indeed, Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, asserted last week that setting Iran back “only a couple of years” is “the best-case scenario.” However, it’s not entirely clear where that assessment—a couple years, or a few years, or two to three years—comes from. “When U.S. government officials have given specific estimates, like two to three years, these are for an Israeli attack on Iranian facilities,” says Matthew Kroenig, a former Pentagon official. “They’re not talking about a U.S. attack, which would obviously be more than what an Israeli strike could accomplish.” (If we don't stop them and they develop a nuclear bomb, I think it's at least a 90% probability they will give at least two to terrorists, one for Tel Aviv and one for New York City. ~Bob)

What France Really Thinks of U.S. Iran Policy. By Elizabeth Ann Moutet
Excerpt: The Quai d’Orsay (the French Foreign Ministry) may loathe, on principle, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: any briefing by French diplomats will, as a matter of course, explain how very wrong Israel is to alienate its “American ally.” All the same, France’s political stance on the projected U.S.-Iran deal is astonishingly close to that of the Israeli PM, as he outlined to the U.S. Congress on March 3.

Problems w/ "two-state solution:" There are now 3 entities not 2; W Bank & Gaza aren't now capable of statehood; as of now no solution. -- "Two-state solution" as theological-political dogma: If you utter the common sense heresy it won't happen soon, Inquisitors come after you. -- BREAKING: British PM Cameron, in close reelection contest, has called WH to ask that Obama intervene against him. -- BREAKING: Bibi has placed a call to Obama to thank him for throwing a hissy fit over his speech to Congress. Probably saved his premiership.

Worth Reading: Joining the Jackals—Again? By William Kristol
Excerpt: In the aftermath of Benjamin Netanyahu's inconvenient (to Barack Obama) victory in the Israeli election, it looks like the administration is heading towards exacting revenge. The administration's threat is that under President Obama the United States will "join the jackals"—the permanent, global, virulently anti-Israel caucus at the United Nations. The phrase comes from the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who knew a thing or two about Israel-hatred at the U.N. (and famously denounced it in 1975 when he was the U.S. ambassador). This gambit has been tried before, disastrously, under President Jimmy Carter. Moynihan's masterful dissection of Carter's failed and self-destructive policy, in the February 1981 issue of Commentary—“Joining the Jackals: The U.S. at the U.N.”—is well worth re-reading today. Here are some of the highlights:

Khamenei calls ‘Death to America’ as Kerry hails progress on nuke deal. Day after Obama urges Iran to seize ‘historic opportunity,’ supreme leader says US seeks to create insecurity
Excerpt: Iran’s Supreme leader Ali Khamenei called for “Death to America” on Saturday, a day after President Barack Obama appealed to Iran to seize a “historic opportunity” for a nuclear deal and a better future, and as US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed substantial progress toward an accord. (Just trying to ingratiate himself with Obama. ~Bob)

We never learn: Iran’s Ayatollah: Introduce Youth of America, Europe to ‘the Islam of Jihad’
Excerpt: In a speech translated into English and posted on his official website, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, told Iran’s “Assembly of Experts” last week that “our goal and main guideline should be to pursue Islam in its entirety.”
“What we understand from all Quranic teachings is that Islam commands Muslims to create a perfect and complete Islamic government,” said the Supreme Leader. “Islam wants the complete implementation of Islam.” The ayatollah also said Iran should use what he called “Islamophobia” and the “targeting of Islam” to reach out to youth throughout the world and “provide them with real Islam.” (The "Real Islam" in Iran includes stoning women accused of adultery, executing apostates and hanging gays. ~Bob)

The Knights Templar Maps a Plan to Fight ISIS and Win. By Andrew L. Peek
Excerpt: 701 years ago, on March 18th, the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar was burned at the stake in France. As he died, Jacques de Molay cursed the French king who had betrayed him, and whose own dynasty collapsed fourteen years later. That didn’t help de Molay, whose order was exterminated as a road bump in the path of French power. Today, days after the Iraqi government admitted that its attack on Tikrit has ground to a halt, the death of the Templars offers lessons on how to fight the Islamic State, an entity they would have recognized very well. The only successes against ISIS have come at the hands of expressly ethno-sectarian troops—not states you could identify on a Google map:

Islamic State jihadi with engineering degree: “I am happy with my Jihadi work.” By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: “Except Tanki who was an HSC dropout, rest three were engineering students with well-to-do family backgrounds. Shaikh had a mechanical engineering degree from Kalsekar College in Panvel where Majeed and Tandel were students. Shaikh and Majeed’s fathers are doctors while Tandel’s father works in a reputed company in Mumbai and Tanki’s dad is a businessman.” What? But…but…poverty and ignorance cause terrorism, don’t they? John Kerry told me!

Islamic State Posts Kill List for U.S. Troops
Excerpt: The war is about to come home. We must all be diligent and ready. Please protect yourself and your families. Check it out: Calling for their beheadings, a self-proclaimed arm of the Islamic State published a list of addresses purportedly belonging to approximately 100 members of the U.S. military late Friday night. (Is it time yet to end the foolish PC and do some serious profiling? --JB).

Islam Bulldozes the Past. By Daniel Pipes
Excerpt: The recent bulldozing by the Islamic State (ISIS) of the ancient cities of Nimrud, Hatra, and Korsabad, three of the world's greatest archaeological and cultural sites, is just this group latest round of assaults across the large area under its control. Since January 2014, the flamboyantly barbaric ISIS has blown up Shi'i mosques, bulldozed churches, pulverized shrines, and plundered museums. Worse, the ISIS record fits into an old and common pattern of destruction of historical artifacts by Muslims.

Afghan cleric and others defend lynching of woman in Kabul. By Hamid Shalizi and Jessica Donati
Excerpt: It was unclear whether she had actually burned a Koran, but during Friday prayers at a mosque in a smart area of Kabul, a cleric's sermon broadcast by loudspeaker told devotees that the crowd had a right to defend their Muslim beliefs at all costs.

The Symbol for Shadaha
It is the Muslim way of silently saying the Shadaha, "The only god is Allah and Mohammed is his prophet." Index finger extended vertically, symbolizing "one god." (I don't believe Obama is a Muslim or a Christian, but a secular humanist whose only religion is the progressive creed. I suspect he made the gesture to win support from Muslims, just as he went to Wright's church for years to win support from black Christians. ~Bob)

Boston Marathon jihad murderer jury questionnaire: “Do you believe the ‘war on terror’ unfairly targets Muslims?” By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: “’Do you believe the United States government acts unfairly towards Muslims in this country or in other parts of the world?’ asks No. 60. ‘Do you believe the ‘war on terror’ unfairly targets Muslims?’ reads No. 61. ‘Do you believe the ‘war on terror’ is overblown or exaggerated?’ asks No. 62.” Apparently if you answer “Yes” to all three of these questions, the defense wants you on the Tsarnaev jury.

PA TV host and Muslim preacher: “If a fish in the sea fights with another fish…the Jews are behind it”
Excerpt: The Jews are behind all that is wrong in the world, according to the host of a weekly Palestinian Authority TV program on Islam. Even when fish fight in the sea, "the Jews are behind it," said the Muslim preacher and professor of Quranic Studies, Imad Hamato. To back up this Antisemitic hate speech, Hamato went on to say that the Quran teaches that humanity will never "live in comfort... peace or fortune or tranquility" as long as "the Jews are causing devastating corruption throughout the land." The solution for Muslims, according to the professor, is to fight Jews: "Our real Jihad is to take revenge."

Yemen--Obama's model for success: Shiite rebels call for Yemen offensive; US troops evacuate. By Ahmed Al-Haj
Excerpt: Yemen's Shiite rebels issued a call to arms Saturday to battle forces loyal to the country's embattled president, as U.S. troops were evacuating a southern air base crucial to America's drone strike program after al-Qaida militants seized a nearby city. The turmoil comes as Yemen battles al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, the target of the drone program, and faces a purported affiliate of the extremist Islamic State group that claimed responsibility for a series of suicide bombings killing at least 137 people Friday.

Excerpt: But…but…Obama says all the Muslims in the U.S. are moderate. Where are all these ISIS supporters in the US? Who is watching them? Is the FBI too busy holding seminars on “Islamophobia” to be on this?

I don't think Obama is a Muslim or a Christian. I think he's a secular humanist whose only religion is the progressive creed. I think he was conning the Muslims with this as he conned black Christians when he needed their support by going faithfully to Rev. Wright's church. ~Bob
