She feels better about herself every time she watches the video, according to Cosmopolitan.

Will There Be Spring?
I wrote this over 40 years ago. ~Bob

Excerpt: Take a look at the graph below. From the end of World War II until 1964 the poverty rate in this country was cut in half. Further, 94% of the change in the poverty rate over this period can be explained by changes in per capita income alone. Economic growth is clearly the most effective antipoverty weapon ever devised by men. The dotted line shows what would have happened had this trend continued. Economic growth would have reduced the poverty rate to a mere 1.4% of the population today ― a number so low that private charity could probably have taken care of any unmet needs. But we didn’t continue the trend. In 1965 we launched a War on Poverty. And as the graph shows, in the years that followed the portion of Americans living in poverty barely budged. In 1965, 18% of the population lived in poverty. Today we are at 15%, or 50 million Americans. That’s after spending $15 trillion on antipoverty programs and continuing to spend $1 trillion a year.

WaPo Fact Checker: Four Pinocchios for Obama’s claim that Republicans have ‘filibustered about 500 pieces of legislation’

WaPo Fact Checker: Harry Reid’s claim that the Koch brothers are ‘one of the main causes’ of climate change
Excerpt: We understand Reid’s overall point, but it’s important to stick to the facts when making such claims. Given that Reid did not accurately describe the U-Mass. report, our rating on this statement tips toward Three Pinocchios.

A Commandant and a Colonel and USMC History. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: As an end of the week salute to Colonel Mac Dube, USMC below is republished a bit of USMC history - a commandant and Colonel Dube and other Marines, too, round out the truth.

Tillis wins Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in North Carolina
Excerpt: The establishment wing of the Republican Party scored a major victory in North Carolina Tuesday when state House Speaker Thom Tillis won the party's nomination for U.S. Senate, turning back tea party challengers who threatened to complicate the GOP's effort to unseat Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) in a key midterm battleground. (From a friend and very consrervative political activist in NC.: Unfortunately, various organizations throughout the state that use the name of the Tea Party worked hard to defeat Tillis. These groups branded Tillis as the "establishment" candidate. While Tillis has worked hard for years to build a working conservative force in the legislature, his critics have done nothing constructive for the state or the Republican Party. (The Washington Post blog story also used the "establishment" label for Tillis, but in the context of NC ,"establishment" is a compliment.) Some of the ads and "robo calls" made to attack Tillis were outrageous lies. --KC)

It’s Official: Tillis Secures GOP Nod in North Carolina Senate Race. By Daniel Doherty
Excerpt: I wrote above that tonight was a victory for the Republican establishment in part because Mitt Romney endorsed Tillis, and Rand Paul backed his conservative/libertarian/tea party opponent, Greg Brannon. But is there anyone more disappointed tonight than Sen. Kay Hagan? After all, her implicit support for the grassroots candidate in the race didn't make much of a difference at all.

Taxpayers to keep on paying for lawmaker cars
Excerpt: Last week, members of Congress voted against giving themselves a bump in pay. It would have been terrible optics. But they couldn’t quite part with that monthly allowance covering the lease on their cars, a cost of nearly half a million dollars a year.

Excerpt: U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa on Tuesday ordered a halt to the John Doe investigation that targeted the recall campaign of Gov. Scott Walker and “all or nearly all right-of-center groups and individuals in Wisconsin who have engaged in issue advocacy from 2010 to the present.” In issuing his preliminary injunction, Randa sided with Wisconsin Club for Growth, finding the John Doe probe into alleged illegal campaign coordination is hampering the group’s constitutionally protected right to free speech.

Hollywood's Sexual Predator Problem Explodes. By Michelle Malkin
Excerpt: Hollywood is sick, sick, sick. Behind its curtain of holier-than-thou progressivism, the entertainment world's top A-list stars have engaged in the most depraved sexual abuse against vulnerable children and teens, according to a growing number of victims. After years of cover-up, the institutional scandal is exploding. Finally.

Rethinking America's decline. By Ben S. Carson
Excerpt: Our ability to print money is already in jeopardy, as other nations have been making noise about altering the international reserve-currency system to emphasize multiple currencies, elevating their status and decreasing the strength of the U.S. dollar. Our ever-increasing national debt would then place us on shaky ground. The Treasury securities we have been offering to China and others would no longer hold the same appeal, and all the borrowing we have done against the financial well-being of our progeny will come back to plague us and them.

Clayton Lockett: A just execution, regardless. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: Last week the state of Oklahoma"botched" an execution. Botched is the accepted term in the media coverage, despite the factClayton Lockett was executed. He just died badly, suffering for 43 minutes until he eventually had a heart attack. Oklahoma's governor has called for an investigation. President Obama asked Attorney General Eric Holder (who is seeking the death penalty in the Boston Marathon bombing case) to review the death penalty. Obama's position was a perfectly defensible straddle:

Moral Bankruptcy. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: There was a time when common sense and common decency counted for something. Educators felt a responsibility to equip students with solid skills that could take them anywhere they wanted to go in later life — enable them to become doctors, engineers or whatever they wanted to be. Too many of today's "educators" see students as a captive audience for them to manipulate and propagandize.

America’s Red Guard. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: Bill Ayers, among others, had signed a letter, “Long live People’s China. Love live Comrade Mao.” The American counterparts of China’s Red Guard remain largely unrepentant because here the Cultural Revolution never ended. Instead it went mainstream. Its members were never disavowed and their acts of terror continue to be celebrated and whitewashed by a left that finds them alternately embarrassing and thrilling.

John Kerry Condemns Faith, Takes One More Step Toward Fascism
http://lastresistance.com/5658/john-kerry-condemns-faith-takes-one-step-toward-fascism/
Excerpt: “There is no surer sign of decay in a country than to see the rites of religion held in contempt.” – Niccolo Machiavelli. Everything changes. That statement may seem obvious, but what we often forget is that change isn’t always positive. While we are inundated by promising messages of change, like Obama’s 2008 campaign slogan, what change really amounts to is deterioration. Just as we all age, our philosophies are subject to a slow deterioration as well. The unfortunate side effect of an aging philosophy is that it will eventually be replaced by something else

Harry Reid’s gift to the GOP. By Jennifer Rubin
Excerpt: Democratic Majority Leader Senator Harry Reid (Nev.) is making an excellent case for getting rid of Harry Reid as majority leader. In farcical fashion, he is denying amendments on energy — which would pass overwhelmingly — to an energy efficiency bill. Minority Leader Senator Mitch McConnell (Ky.took to the floor to decry the logjam: Once again, the Majority Leader is shutting down the voice of the people in the Senate. For seven long years, he’s refused to allow a truly comprehensive debate on energy in this chamber.

Excerpt: Tensions in the South China Sea intensified Wednesday as Vietnamese vessels confronted Chinese ships that were working to place an oil rig off Vietnam’s coast, and Vietnamese officials claimed that their ships had been rammed by the Chinese vessels. (Oh, joy--pass the popcorn. Viet & Chinese commies killing each other? Let us hope. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Vietnam said on Wednesday a Chinese vessel intentionally rammed two of its ships in a part of the disputed South China Sea where Beijing has deployed a giant oil rig, sending tensions spiraling in the region.

Cops: Teen Had Loaded Revolver In Her Vagina
Excerpt: A 19-year-old Tennessee woman had a loaded handgun hidden in her vagina when she was brought into jail yesterday afternoon following a collar for driving with a suspended license, police report. As Dallas Archer was being booked into the Kingsport jail, a female corrections officer alerted to an “unknown object” in the teenager’s crotch during a search. (I'm overwhelmed at the tasteless joke potential. ~Bob)

Holocaust Survivor Says Obama’s America identical To Hitler’s Germany
http://lastresistance.com/5665/holocaust-survivor-says-obamas-america-identical-hitlers-germany/
That's a real stretch. ~Bob Excerpt: Anita Dittman, now 86 years young, lived through the Nazi years of Hitler’s Germany. She remembers Hitler’s rise to power and what it was like living under his dictatorship. Dittman also survived the Holocaust and has recently told her story, which is being included in a project called Trapped in Hitler’s Hell.

EPA Employees Not Fired For Watching Pornography, Stealing Money
http://dailycaller.com/2014/05/07/epa-employees-not-fired-for-watching-pornography-stealing-money/
Excerpt: The Environmental Protection Agency has not been firing employees for watching pornography and falsifying federal documents, according to California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa. “How much pornography would it take for an EPA employee to lose his job?” Issa asked EPA officials, including the agency’s second-in-command, testifying before the House Oversight Committee. Issa chairs the committee. “This individual spent four consecutive hours on a site called ‘sadism is beautiful,’” Issa pressed the EPA employees. “You are running an organization from which no one can get fired.” (Watching porn probably qualifies as a disability and they are thus ADA protected. ~Bob)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2623330/Is-Inter-Stellar-Assistance-Force-Mysterious-UFO-filmed-blitzing-Taliban-base-Afghanistan.html
Excerpt: U.S. Marines captured this incredible footage of what looks like a UFO hovering over a Taliban encampment - then blowing it to kingdom come.

What Drives Vladimir Putin? Aggressors often attack weaker neighbors to restore a sense of pride. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Vladimir Putin’s Russia is a disaster of a declining population, corruption, authoritarianism, a warped economy, and a high rate of alcoholism. Why, then, would Putin want to ruin additional territory in Crimea and Ukraine the way that he has wrecked most of Russia?

Hillary's State Department Refused to Brand Boko Haram as Terrorists
Excerpt: The State Department under Hillary Clinton fought hard against placing the al Qaeda-linked militant group Boko Haram on its official list of foreign terrorist organizations for two years. And now, lawmakers and former U.S. officials are saying that the decision may have hampered the American government’s ability to confront the Nigerian group that shocked the world by abducting hundreds of innocent girls.

President Obama’s L.A. Visit: Alan Horn Fundraiser, Shoah Foundation Speech
Excerpt: Tickets to the event start at $10,000 per person, which includes dinner and a photo op. Those donating $32,400 per couple get listed as “sponsors” and can also take part in a VIP reception. Those donating $64,800 per couple are listed as “hosts” and also can take part in a “VIP clutch.” (Can you think of any better place to discuss the "problems of inequality" than at the home of a Hollywood mogul and hanging with movie stars who paid $64,800? I hope Obama lamented the greed and callousness of wealthy elites at the event. The wrong kind of wealthy elites, of course. -- Jim Geraghty, Morning Jolt http://www.nationalreview.com/newsletters)

Excerpt: Do not shoot Detroit grandmother Paris Ainsworth. Even if you hit her four times, you’ll only make her mad: Her siblings now jokingly call her Rambo. However, Paris Ainsworth easily could have been killed. Her attackers shot her four times, but she had eight bullets for them. “If I wouldn’t have had my gun I would be dead today,” she said.

Take Joe Biden's advice on guns
Too funny. ~Bob

Report: Pentagon paid $150 per gallon for green jet fuel
Excerpt: The Department of Defense paid $150 per gallon for alternative jet fuel made from algae, more than 64 times the current market price for standard carbon-based fuels, according to a report released on Wednesday. (Cui Bono. ~Bob)

Baier Tracks: Keystone on hold, but ‘green’ line goes…
Excerpt: “As the battle over the administration-stalled Keystone XL pipeline heats up, with even top Democrats calling for Senate action to move it forward, there is another project that is moving full steam ahead despite significant pushback. Conservative economist Steve Moore writes about a 500-mile green energy power line to connect windmills to the power grid. That project is moving forward despite going right through an Army testing ground at New Mexico’s White Sands Missile Range

New Hampshire Rep: Food Stamp Recipients Should Be Able To Buy Guns With Ebt Cards. By Awr Hawkins
Excerpt: On May 7th New Hampshire Representative Timothy Horrigan (D-Durham) stood on the state house floor and argued against legislation forbidding the use of EBT cards for guns, saying such a ban "is a blatant violation of the Second Amendment." (And without an ID--that's racist. ~Bob)

The Real Reason Big Labor Wants a Minimum Wage Hike. By Fred Wszolek
Excerpt: Union workers already make considerably more than the current minimum wage. However, many union bosses set up their contracts so that an increase in the minimum wage leads to an increase in the union wage as well. Baseline union wages are often set at a certain percentage above the minimum wage, so the former would be set to increase. Higher union wages mean higher union dues.

Good riddance: Common Core backlash claims new casualties. By Michelle Malkin
http://michellemalkin.com/2014/05/09/good-riddance-common-core-backlash-claims-new-political-casualties/
Excerpt: All politics is local. So Republican politicians with national ambitions better pay attention to what grassroots parents are saying and doing about the federal education racket known as Common Core. In bellwether Indiana this week, anti-Common Core activists won a pair of pivotal electoral victories against GOP Gov. Mike Pence. Pence’s attempt to mollify critics by rebranding and repackaging shoddy Common Core standards is fooling no one.

One Fed Employee Laid Off. From The Patriot Post
Remember the "Republican sequester" -- the negotiating tactic that Team Obama dreamed up to trigger automatic spending cuts if a grand budgetary bargain couldn't be reached between Democrats and Republicans? The one Obama used both to coax Republicans to the table and then to beat them over the head? The one he continually blamed on Republicans even as the facts (and the video) proved otherwise? As The Hill reports, "The Obama administration and Democrats last year claimed that sequestration would be devastating to the government and to the wider economy. Republicans have repeatedly questioned those claims, calling them scare tactics." But as it turns out, the Government Accountability Office reports that one single solitary federal layoff at the Justice Department can be attributed to the sequester. That certainly makes sense, because the administration deliberately made the sequester as painful as possible for the general public and not federal employees and agencies. Remember the canceled White House tours, the closed national parks and the long delays for air travelers? Remember to blame Obama.

IRS to Give Up Lerner Emails. From The Patriot Post
All it took was holding Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress and the IRS suddenly agreed to turn over all of her emails to a House investigative panel. IRS commissioner John Koskinen had said it might take years to produce them, leading to a threat of a contempt charge for him too. Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) said, "While it is good that we are finally getting these emails, it should never have taken this long." Still, he said, "The Committee will thoroughly review the Lerner documents and follow them wherever they may lead." Where it may lead is to reveal again that the administration finds conservative political groups to be more of a threat than, say, jihadis in Benghazi.

I-Team: After NY Gun Control Law, Assault Rifles Only Look Different. By Ann Givens and Chris Glorioso
Excerpt: Now some critics say one part of the law – the assault rifle ban – is not effective because new models being made to comply with the law are almost entirely the same as those that were banned.
Environmentalists Have Lost the Climate Change Debate. By David Harsanyi
Excerpt: The bloodcurdling National Climate Assessment is here, and it portends catastrophe; floods, clouds and other assorted weather events are imminent! But, says the report, “there is still time to act to limit the amount of climate change and the extent of damaging impacts.” Have you noticed that we’re always at the cusp of a cataclysm yet the deadline to act always moves to a politically convenient not-too-distant future? I guess that when the time to act runs out – it will at some point, right? – we can begin thinking about defunding all these panels and reinvesting in something more productive, such as figuring out how we can adapt to the future.

“Moderate” Republicans Doing More Damage Than Democrats
Excerpt: Compromise is to be used when one possesses common ground with their opponent. If one does not have any such common ground, a place where beliefs overlap, there is no benefit to compromise. In fact, without common ground, compromise doesn’t even exist. Moreover, if finding common ground requires one to violate their beliefs, even in the slightest, what is the point? What is the cost, morally, strategically, and politically of compromising, when it forces us to bend what should otherwise be a straight principle?

California's High-Tax, Big-Government Comedown. By Arthur B. Laffer
Excerpt: Population out migration can be a key marker for a disturbed society with deeply rooted policy flaws. It's a far better sign of a state's health to have people lined up on its borders trying to get in than it is to have people lined up on its borders trying to get out. Over the past 165 years, California has grown at an average annual compound rate of 3.8%. But in recent times it has morphed from being America's (if not the world's) greatest people attractor to being a massive population and jobs repellent (see actual population in blue on the chart above).

Millionaire Democratic donor pal of George. By Timothy P. Carney
Excerpt: Rick Segal, CEO of financial services firm Seavest, bundled between $250,000 and $500,000 for the president's reelection campaign, in addition to his $165,000 in political contributions since 1990. Seavest also profits from ObamacareSeavest has a business that invests in health-care properties. Segal's Seavestments are paying off now, thanks in part to Obamacare:

Excerpt: America seems to be slamming the door these days on the greatest salesman of the 21st Century. The liberal Gannett Corporation's USA TODAY ran a poll last week and it appears Obama's salesman days are over. 67% of Americans still oppose Obamacare despite Obama's minions spending hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to promote it. Rap stars, movie stars, and a number of the 30 million getting healthcare for free still couldn't win over America to socialized medicine.

Confirmed: Many of Obamacare's 'Eight Million Enrollments' are Duplicates. By Guy Benson

Excerpt: We've been throwing cold water on the administration's so-called exchange "enrollment" figures for months, and for good reason: They're incomplete to the point of deception. The Washington Post reported back in November that official tabulations were including anyone who's "selected a plan," which is the equivalent of placing an item in a virtual shopping cart online, regardless of whether the check-out and payment steps ever took place.

Religion of Peace News

Excerpt: Iftikhar doesn’t even mention the verses that Muslims like Abubakar Shekau point to in order to justify kidnapping young girls and selling them into sexual slavery: "If you fear that you will not act justly towards the orphans, marry such women as seem good to you, two, three, four; but if you fear you will not be equitable, then only one, or what your right hands own; so it is likelier you will not be partial." (Qur’an 4:3)

Today's Mis-Direct Flavor? Boko Haram. By John Bernard
In one of the latest examples of the inability of writers, the media and politicians to clearly define our current enemy, Nick Cohen, writing for "The Observer" makes an impassioned plea for the safety of some two hundred and twenty Nigerian girls, seized by one of the more current and infamous forward elements of Islamic Jihad, Boko Haram. For starters, these girls are Christian and from a predominately Christian village in northeast Nigeria, called Chibok. What I will agree to is the insulting, narrowly focused Obama Administration which has bent over backwards, seeking asylum for children and families of Islamic origin while unconscionably ignoring the plight of beleaguered Christians in places like Homs, the Coptic villages of Egypt and now, Christians once again being brutalized by the Devil's forces in Nigeria.
