Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for November 11, 2012

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for November 11, 2012
Robert A. Hall
Surprise. Bonnie and Britnye went downtown, giving me some computer time to pull a few things for you. With the Marine Corps Birthday and Veterans Day, this is an important weekend for those who defended this Republic. You're going to miss it when it's gone, voted away by the free-stuff majority. ~Bob

Your one-stop-shop for political news and opinion. Please forward to friends who need to be informed. This SitRep (Military for “Situation Report”) is created by many readers who send me items for inclusion, which I would have likely missed or skipped. And I can only spend at most three hours a night pulling stuff, plus the healthcare or economic stuff that crosses my desk at work. As always, I—and you—owe them thanks and appreciation. I post articles because I think they are of interest and will stimulate thought and discussion. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article, or that I was able to verify the information presented, which is the responsibility of the author. I try not to post things that are false, or too far a stretch, regardless of the view point, but I don’t always succeed. As always on the Net, or in the legacy media, you must read critically and with skepticism.

Worth Reading: No One Joins the U. S. Marine Corps. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: Today, 10 November, is an important day to Marines. It's our birthday - this year our 237th. And it so happened, the year of our founding - 1775 - our day of birth fell on a Friday. So surely it's not coincidence that was the origin of "Happy Hour" at Enlisted, NCO, SNCO, and Officers' Clubs on Marine Bases worldwide - late Friday afternoon, a time for cheer and camaraderie, sometimes rowdy and 'Marines will be Marines' fun beyond description surely nothing to discuss in mixed company. "Mixed" not implying gender but Marines and all others.

Information on my books

CIA Director Petraeus quits: extramarital affair
Excerpt: David Petraeus, the retired four-star general renowned for taking charge of the military campaigns in Iraq and then Afghanistan, abruptly resigned Friday as director of the CIA, admitting to an extramarital affair.

Weaselzippers.us: This Thing Stinks to High Hell: Petraeus Resigns, Won't Testify on Benghazi.

Valerie Jarrett’s Payback Begins, Petraeus Forced Out
Excerpt: In extremely “fascinating” timing, Petraeus resigned today, a few days after the election, over an extramarital affair. Now I’m sure that the affair happened, but I rather doubt that at this juncture, where extramarital affairs are normal even in the White House and the Marines are expected to embrace gay marriage, that this was really about the affair. (Why didn't the Bill Clinton It's just-about-sex rule apply? ~Bob.)

Excerpt: For a public figure of his stature and heroic repute, an extramarital affair would not normally these days be considered reason enough to quit his job. Bill Clinton’s presidency survived his affair with Monica Lewinsky, although the US president, who officiates as Commander in Chief of US forces and responsible for the CIA, lied to Congress.

Post on Absentee Military Ballots a Hoax?
Thanks for the constant service to our country. That post above about the absentee ballots at The Duffel Blog is a satire- they are not a real news outlet.
http://www.duffelblog.com/about/
(Sorry-I was sent it and didn't have time to review the site. ~Bob.)

Why not Rubio for RNC Chair? Ed Morrissey, Hot Air
http://hotair.com/archives/2012/11/09/why-not-rubio-for-rnc-chair/
Excerpt: Many people think Rubio lacks a track record of executive experience; a two-year term running the RNC will at least give him an immediate opportunity to add significant executive experience to his resumé ahead of a possible presidential run in 2016. It also gives Rubio even more of a platform to drive the Republican message and brand among voters who haven’t been inclined to listen to the GOP. (Bad idea. A party post would distract from building support for 2016. ~Bob.)

Isn't it time for a TV show about a South Side political dynasty? By John Kass
Great column about a proposed TV show--but who would believe this could happen in Chicago? May require free log in. ~Bob.

Police: 6 men abduct girl at gunpoint, sexually assault her
Excerpt: Six men abducted and sexually assaulted 14-year-old girl who was walking to school Monday morning in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said. ... Five of the attackers had long dreads -- one had brown tips on the dreads while another had red tips. A six attacker had a close fade hairstyle, the alert said.

Iran shoots at U.S. drone over Persian Gulf, misses, U.S. reports
Excerpt: The shooting in the Gulf, which occurred just before 5 a.m. EDT on Nov. 1, was unprecedented, Pentagon press secretary George Little said. The incident was not disclosed sooner because the military does not discuss classified surveillance missions, but agreed to answer questions after news reports revealed the shooting. (Held until after the election. ~Bob.)

In Search of an Accountable Care Organization (ACO)

Excerpt: The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office on Thursday laid out in substantial detail the costs of not dealing with the fiscal cliff. CBO had already estimated that going over the fiscal cliff would spark a recession, while simply voiding the tax and spending increases would add trillions to the debt. But the new study breaks down in specific detail the cost and benefits of allowing various parts of the fiscal cliff to remain in place.

Response from my liberal friend on military ballots
The story about "uncounted late military absentee ballots" is just the latest Republican paranoid excuse for their well deserved rejection by the American people. As Nate has demonstrated in the article I sent you yesterday, Mitt would have needed about 6 million additional votes nationally to win the Electoral College, so a few hundred thousand absentee ballots just wouldn't have cut it, even if all voted for Romney. and they didn't. Obama did better than any recent Democrat among service member voters, because he got us out of Iraq, killed Bin Laden and improved care for returning servicemen and veterans. And although a disproportionate number of these voters may be voting in Virginia, a battleground state, other states with large military populations (Texas, South CarolinaCalifornia ,Georgia) are not. --PLM

The Edge of the Abyss:  The default setting of American society is ever more liberal and statist. By Mark Steyn
Excerpt: Amid the ruin and rubble of the grey morning after, it may seem in poor taste to do anything so vulgar as plug the new and stunningly topical paperback edition of my book, After America — or, as Dennis Miller retitled it on the radio the other day, Wednesday. But the business of America is business, as Calvin Coolidge said long ago in an alternative universe, and I certainly could use a little. So I’m going to be vulgar and plug away. The central question of Wednesday — I mean, After America — is whether the Brokest Nation in History is capable of meaningful course correction. On Tuesday, the American people answered that question. The rest of the world will make its dispositions accordingly. (I recommend the book. ~Bob.)

What's in a name? By Abigail R. Esman
Excerpt: In some cases, it's an entire history of social change – and a sign of things to come. That fact became clear last week, when the newly-created "Islam Party" won seats in the local governments of two towns just outside of Brussels.

What a Coincidence: Obama lost in every state that requires a photo ID to be produced before voting.
http://moonbattery.com/?p=20764
Excerpt: Obama lost in every state that requires a photo ID to be produced before voting. A list of closely contested state elections with no voter ID, which narrowly went to Obama include: Minnesota (10), Iowa (6), Wisconsin (10), Nevada (6), Colorado (9), New Mexico (5) and Pennsylvania (20). This amounts to a total of 66 electoral votes. When added to Romney’s total of 205 electoral votes, that would give Romney 271 electoral votes, enough votes to win even without Ohio or Florida. (Personally, I don't think this or anything would have made a difference. The loot-the-future voters are now a permanent majority until the collapse. ~Bob.)

Conservatives: From Despair to Resolution in Three Days. B. Daniel Blatt, Gay Patriot
http://www.gaypatriot.net/2012/11/09/conservatives-from-despair-to-resolution-in-three-days/
Excerpt: Like many conservatives in the wake of the reelection of a failed liberal president, I have experienced my share of sadness in the past few days, passing through several stages of grief, from depression when we learned the results to bitterness to anger, but then, starting sometime yesterday, not even forty-eight hours after the loss, I passed into a new stage resolve. And it seems I’m not the only one. Perhaps, the most striking contrast between liberals and conservatives I have observed in my Facebook feed has been the greater amount of bile coming from the left, even after their victory.

Excerpt: A group of college students chanted “Karl Marx” and “socialism” while celebrating President Obama’s electoral victory in front of the White House late Tuesday night, a video shot by Campus Reform reveals. The raucous group of students chanted “Karl Marx, Karl Marx, Karl Marx,” and cited abortion, socialism, and “Obama phones” as reasons for their support of President Obama’s second term.

The way forward. By Charles Krauthammer
Excerpt: They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority. The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example). (He does a great job, as usual. I wish he could go into politics and get elected to the Senate. --Del)

SOS Benghazi-Gate Petition
Excerpt: Special Operations Speaks (SOS) needs a favor from you and everyone you can reach out and touch. Next week three of us from SOS are heading for an important Press Conference on Thursday the 15th in Washington DC ref our latest SOS petition drive to get an independent Congressional investigation of the Benghazi crimes and cover-ups. We need you to send as many people as you can to our website to sign that petition ASAP. Just have your contacts go to the SOS website at http://www.specialoperationsspeaks.com/ and look under the tab "Petitions and Actions- Investigate Benghazigate." Everyone in SOS should sign this petition if they have not already done so. Then begin networking to get everyone (friends, neighbors, professional like-minded patriots, etc) you can to do the same. It will only take a few a few minutes of your time. (Now the election is over, and maybe enough attention can be focused on the tragedy at Benghazi for a real investigation that will make it crystal clear who allowed the situation to be so dangerous and then did nothing while our people were attacked and basically froze at the wheel while they were murdered. Signing this petition is one small way we can help make that investigation happen. --Del)

Always faithful: Marine veterans tend to hero's grave, cemetery
Excerpt: The story of Davis, who gave his life in Vietnam and became Macon's only recipient of the Medal of Honor, is not so well known, despite two monuments in the city and a U.S. Navy frigate bearing his name. (Semper Fidelis, indeed. --Del)

Suspected cartel attorney remains in federal custody
Excerpt: Suspected cartel attorney Marco Antonio Delgado, 46, pleaded not guilty on Thursday and requested a bond hearing for next Wednesday. He remains in federal custody following his Friday arrest by special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) regarding allegations of money laundering for a Mexican drug cartel.

Obama Administration Shuts Down Oil Drilling Out West
Excerpt: The Interior Department on Friday issued a final plan to close 1.6 million acres of federal land in the West originally slated for oil shale development. The proposed plan would fence off a majority of the initial blueprint laid out in the final days of the George W. Bush administration. (From the guy who took credit in the campaign for increasing American oil and reducing imports. ~Bob.)

"Belgium Will Become an Islamic State." By Soeren Kern
Excerpt: During a post-election press conference in Brussels on October 25, the two future councilors, who will be officially sworn in on December 3, said they regard their election as key to the assertion of the Muslim community in Belgium. "We are elected Islamists but above all we are Muslims," Ahrouch said. "Islam is compatible with the laws of the Belgian people. As elected Muslims, we embrace the Koran and the tradition of the Prophet Mohammed. We believe Islam is a universal religion. Our presence on the town council will give us the opportunity to express ourselves," said Ahrouch, who refuses to shake hands or make eye contact with females in public.

Did the Election Save ObamaCare? By John C. Goodman
Excerpt: Yet there is something all these commentators are overlooking. There are six major flaws in ObamaCare. They are so serious that the Democrats are going to have to perform major surgery on the legislation in the next few years, even if all the Republicans do is stand by and twiddle their thumbs.

Labor: Tax the rich, don't touch safety nets
Excerpt: Labor's massive voter turnout effort played a major role in helping President Barack Obama win Ohio, Nevada and Wisconsin, according to exit polls, and its leaders are now looking for a more liberal, pro-union agenda from the White House.

California: Muslim husband arrested for murder of woman whose killing was widely touted as an "anti-Muslim hate crime"
Excerpt: Will hate-filled clowns like Reza Aslan and a thousand Islamic supremacists who wrote me on Twitter now apologize for trying to frame me and Pamela Geller for this murder? Let's just say I won't be holding my breath. Their Goebbels-like Big Lie and manifest dishonesty, however, is clear for all the world to see. They staged a campaign, "One Million Hijabs for Shaima Alawadi." Will they now stage "One Million Hijabs Against Honor Killing"? Don't bet on it. (Show me your shocked face. ~Bob.)

More than 5,000 child brides in Saudi Arabia
Excerpt: There have been 5,622 marriages where the bride is under the age of 14 in Saudi Arabia, said Ali Abdul Rahman Al Roumi, a social services academic at Imam Mohammad Bin Saud Islamic University, adding that specifying a legal age would not solve the problem, and may lead to “even bigger problems”. (If sex with a nine-year-old wife was good enough for Mohammed... ~Bob.)

Muslim extremists in tear gas gay Marais attack
Excerpt: Five Muslim extremists attacked a gay club in Paris beating the bouncers and spraying some attendants, including the vice president of IDAHO, with tear gas. (The beauty of multiculturalism. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Across Philadelphia, GOP poll inspectors were forcibly (and illegally) removed from polling locations. Coincidentally (or not), Mr. Obama received "astronomical" numbers in those very same regions, including locations where he received "over 99%" of the vote.

Want to force a compromise? Negotiate in public
Excerpt: Few things are more characteristic of business as usual in Washington, D.C., than closed doors. Nothing will do more to end business as usual than opening them to C-SPAN cameras. With the "fiscal cliff" of sequestration approaching, now is the perfect time to establish a precedent: The bigger the deal, the more important it is that negotiations be done in public. (Never happen with the "most transparent administration in history." ~Bob.)

Horror in Syria: Rebels executing Christians
Excerpt: A video of a Nov. 1 attack in which black-clad Syrian rebels reportedly killed 28 men was misreported as the execution of Syrian soldiers, says the head of a Christian group providing aid in the war-torn country. He should know -- two of those gunned down worked with him and there's good reason to believe the others were Christians as well, targeted for death by the very people the Obama administration is funneling weapons to.

The Two Americas: Madison continues to enable society’s takers. By David Blaska
Excerpt: There really are two Americas, as that sleazeball John Edwards used to say.
There’s the America of grown-ups: adults who take care of their business and don’t blame others for their failures. They are countered by a group – perhaps not Mitt Romney’s 47% but growing – of permanent takers, not the workers who earned their Social Security payments and veterans benefits but career dependents and their enablers, people who believe that Big Bird will croak without state-coerced taxation of the achieving class.

Excerpt: Yes, I know that’s a provocative statement. However, I must point out that at one point in history the phrase, ‘The Fall Of Rome’ was considered just as melodramatic. The thing is, I’m going to defend the title of my post with the following very thorough analysis.

Excerpt : I dislike politicians and pundits speaking of what “the American people” deserve or need or want or demand, as if they are privy to the people’s collective hearts and minds. This morning, I have mud on my face. This morning I need to write about myself. This morning I need to put words to paper about what I thought “the American people” deserved, needed, wanted or demanded. I was wrong; so very, very wrong.

Excerpt: A couple from Forest Park showed up yesterday at the polls to vote just like they have ever since they turned 18. When it was their turn, they were both told that they had already voted via absentee ballot. The couple said that they have never voted absentee and wanted to know how this could happen. Precinct officials told them that they could fill out a provisional ballot, which they did. Before long, a number of other voters in the same precinct were told the same thing, that they had already voted via absentee ballots and that they also needed to fill out a provisional ballot. Eventually, voting officials said that the mistake was due to ‘human error’ and that anyone else in the same situation would likewise have to cast a provisional ballot.

How Many Businesses Have Announced Closings Or Layoffs Since Obama Won A Second Term?
Excerpt: However, stock prices are not the only thing taking a hit. It appears that the job market is also suffering. In the last 48 hours, the following major corporations have announced layoffs in America (links take you to news stories about the layoffs – with details from the companies):

Excerpt: Obama was "fired up" and so were the voters, and so now, the mass firings begin. Here's a collection of today's headlines. Please say a prayer for the families who will be suffering. Had Romney won, many of these companies would now be hiring.
