Insurers balk at covering Portland businesses; brokers say downtown upheaval has made carriers wary

Insurers balk at covering Portland businesses; brokers say downtown upheaval has made carriers wary

Gee, who cudda anticipated this happening? Last time I checked, insurance companies are in business to make money, and they do so by managing risk.  When there's some kind of stable situation and history they can evaluate risk and come up with a financial model that says how much they must charge the clients to cover the likely payouts and still have money left over, known as profit. When the situation is chaotic and goes into high risk or risk impossible to really evaluate, then they cannot offer coverage since it means no certainly of profit and a likelihood of loss.  Duhh... Four months of rioting and apparently the creation of a culture of theft, looting, and vandalization for fun since the cops aren't stopping anyone sure would keep me from offering insurance to anyone in the area.  Not until somehow the situation changes a lot, and real law and order are restored and the people doing the stealing and damage are in jail and everyone else is very seriously discouraged from such activities. This is very, very rough on the business people, but if I were one of them I'd be asking why in hell I'm paying taxes to the city and not getting any basic service, like protection of my business.  And maybe I'd be making donations to different people running for office.  As Jefferson said, in a democracy you get the government you deserve, and if you have elected and keep electing utter incompetents, this is what happens. --Del

The Disgraceful Hunter Biden Cover-Up

 The Disgraceful Hunter Biden Cover-Up

Excerpt: It was a ‘conspiracy’ theory shouted down and stifled by the media establishment. Until it wasn’t. It’s now clear that the Hunter Biden story was real, with Hunter himself acknowledging a federal probe into his taxes — one that reportedly began in 2018. Really, it was always clear. Yet, when the New York Post broke the details, virtually the entire journalistic establishment and left-wing punditsphere defamed the newspaper, claiming it was passing on Russian “disinformation” or partisan fabrications.

Ex-Con Hired by D.C. as Violence Interrupter Arrested, Charged with Murder

The idea of the program, to use reformed criminals as agents for good in the community they came from, sounds really good, and I have no doubt it does some good.  However, the key point is the "reformed" part, and with some individuals it's hard to know whether they've really changed or have just learned to act out the part convincingly for their own benefit.

Here is one case where the individual didn't really change that much, but sure faked out everyone.

Our Brave New Biden World.

Our Brave New Biden World. By VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

Excerpt: In which the past is rewritten and the present is molded to burnish the commander in chief America traditionally has not reinvented reality after an election, although prior presidential winners have often tried, as in the fashion of our politics. But the new powers of social media, Silicon Valley, and a woke media have made reality-changing now a reality. Suddenly Antifa and BLM have all but disappeared from their heroic barricades. Where and why did they go? Did they ever really exist? Mysteriously, a week or two before the election, the flood of violence in our major cities began downsizing to a tiny trickle. How strange that former angry throngs are now in nearly suspended animation. Are all those black kneepads, helmets, and umbrellas now in closets? Are all those whiny Pajama Boys on the barricades back teaching in their Zoom classrooms, or taking their college Zoom classes in their parents’ basements What changed? What in the world convinced committed revolutionaries to cease their long march to revolutionary justice? (Very nice job of bitter sarcasm in a situation that really deserves it. I do not doubt some of his predictions will come true. Democracy drowns in a sea of media propaganda. --Del)

The Biden Opportunity and How to Blow It

Isn't this interesting?  This is no conservative, Trump supporting writer, this is someone who looks forward to a Biden/Harris administration, but wants it to be moderate as was promised.  He makes an excellent point about this particular choice of a major activist to take over a critical department.  There will be major conflicts that will confirm the fears of many on the Right.

I watched the video and can only say Wow... it's so nice when your enemies make the mistake of publicly talking about how they are undermining you.

This very important video and article from RedState was so powerful that President Trump tweeted this:

"It involves an explosive video that was eventually deleted from social media by China, and it exposes perhaps the most dangerous threat America faces."

Tucker Carlson Delivers a Monologue So Damning That President Trump Shares It, Includes Explosive Hunter Biden News

By Bonchie

"If you watch the above clip, what you’ll see is a Beijing-based professor bragging about China’s ability to settle affairs with the United States in their favor. But it’s his admission that that’s only possible because the CCP has people placed he calls “old friends” in upper positions of power across the influence sectors in the country. He’s obviously talking about government inroads, but he also specifically mentions someone being the vice president at a major Wall Street firm. At another point, he notes an American woman who now has dual Chinese citizenship and lives part of the year in Beijing. Why that’s important is that the communist nation does not allow dual citizenship. You do the math on that.

Things got more damning, though. The professor goes on to talk specifically about President Trump and how he’s blown up China’s ability to control American interests and bend them in their favor. The trade war is specifically mentioned here, with it being noted that Wall Street “tried to help” but couldn’t do much because Trump held an adversarial position against the financial institutions in question. Unsurprisingly, we hear about how easy Barack Obama’s administration was to manipulate in comparison. The professor even brags about having so many people near the levers of power during that time, but they couldn’t “fix Trump” in his words.

That’s when things get really explosive, though. Carlson plays one final clip in which the professor, obviously relieved, says that now Joe Biden has been elected. That leads him to say that Trump has claimed Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, ran some kind of “global foundation.” He then makes a stunning admission that yes, the Chinese are the ones who funded that and that there are many “deals” in all of it.

As Carlson quips, now you know exactly why we the mainstream media and social media immediately sought to quash the Hunter Biden story with such force. The Chinese have compromised so many people at the top, including in our media structure, that the story simply couldn’t be allowed to live despite it being true. And keep in mind, if there was ever a video like this targeting Eric Trump or another Trump family member, for example, it would be the lead story on every network for months as proof of foreign interference.
The segment ends with an assertion that Joe Biden has been compromised, and that’s exactly correct. There hasn’t been a more China-friendly politician in the last 30 years than Biden. With his probable swearing-in on the horizon, the communists are rejoicing. That should tell you just how big a mistake it was to let him anywhere near the presidency."

Book recommendation: AMERICAN LION: Andrew Jackson in the White House by Jon Meacham

AMERICAN LION: Andrew Jackson in the White House by Jon Meacham

https://smile.amazon.com/AMERICAN-LION-Andrew-Jackson-White/dp/0812973461/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1ETAHZCR5GD20&dchild=1&keywords=american+lion+andrew+jackson+in+the+white+house&qid=1607449037&s=books&sprefix=American+Lion%2Caps%2C182&sr=1-1

Along with Thomas Jefferson, Andrew Jackson was recognized at annual dinners as one of the founders of the modern Democrat party. Then “woke” democrats discovered both were slave owners, an unrepentant one in Jackson’s case. Who knew? It’s just as well. During his eight years, Jackson, who believed in a limited federal government, paid off the national debt. Can you imagine a politician today, Democrat or Republican, doing that?

At least as bad, Jackson was responsible for the removal of the Cherokees from the southeast, known now as the “Trail of Tears.” This book does not gloss over the evil he did.

But it is not too much to say that Jackson created the modern presidency by force of personality. He also dealt both firmly and with diplomacy with the “nullification crisis.” It was South Carolina’s view that a state could nullify federal law like the tariff, much as some cities today claim the right to nullify federal immigration law. Though a slave owner, he believed in the paramountcy and permeance of the union. His deft handling of the issue postponed the Civil War for 28 years, though he foresaw it would eventually come over slavery.

He also destroyed the bank of the United States, believing it used the people’s money to bribe officials. Jackson was always for the average guy—as long as the average guy was white. He could be brutal, but could also pick up an Indian child on a battlefield and raise him in his home.

Meacham draws on many hitherto unpublished letters and manuscripts in crafting this excellent biography. It gives a terrific overview of politics in the decades before the Civil War. The political invective and attacks far outstrip today’s nastiness. It is worth reading.

Speech to the Senate, 1830

“The spirit of which I speak creates imaginary and magnifies the real causes of complaint; arrogates to itself every virtue—denies every merit of its opponents; secretly entertains the worst designs…mounts to pulpit, and, in the name of a God of mercy and peace, preaches discord and vengeance; invokes the worst scourges of Heaven, war, pestilence, and famine, as preferable alternatives to party defeat; blind vindictive, cruel, remorseless, unprincipled, and at last frantic, it communicates it communicates its madness to friends as well as foes; respects nothing, fears nothing.” –Sen. Edward Livingston, speech to the Senate, 1830
