Political news for your Memorial Day weekend

Excerpt: Our nation is getting ready to enter the Memorial Day weekend. For some it's an opportunity for a quick mini-vacation out of town, a trip to Disneyland, a back yard barbecue or maybe just a beer fest and watching the car races. For far too many, loved ones of those who've given their lives for this nation, Memorial Day is a day to honor the fallen. Flowers and miniature flags will adorn the graves in a thousand cemeteries across our land. Families will stand or kneel by these graves and recall the moment when that military chaplain walked up to their door wearing a sad and forlorn face. They will recall the wracking sobs they thought would never end as they contemplated living their remaining years without someone who occupied such a large place in their lives. And they, above all, will know the depth of sacrifice offered for the love of country.

Casualty Call

The doorbell rang while she was baking bread.
She glimpsed them through the window by her door,
And slid down weeping to the foyer floor;
Until she let them in he was not dead.
Her husband came to answer it instead.
"Are you okay?" He knew. He'd been to war.
"Mother, are you okay?" he asked once more.
"I'll never be okay again," she said.

Their son was buried two weeks to the day.
The rifles fired, a bugle sounded taps.
She was clear-eyed, her husband wept. Perhaps
He knew the price that they had yet to pay.
They grieved their son for years, then cancer came,
And as he died, he called the dead boy's name.

Ya Think? Newly Released Emails Cast Doubt on Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi Claims. By Sharyl Attkisson
Excerpt: Newly reported emails indicate Hillary Clinton was personally made aware of security dangers in the months leading up to the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on U.S. compounds in Benghazi, Libya. That’s according to the House Benghazi Committee, which has obtained 300 long-sought emails from the State Department among tens of thousands under subpoena. The Benghazi Committee says there are a number of emails in which State Department personnel specifically passed along security issues to Clinton in 2011 and 2012 before the attacks. (Not for me; I never believed her, Obama or Rice in the first place. I have always thought that they didn't send help because they feared a firefight in which Muslim civilians would die, the Muslim world would explode, and Obama's reelection prospects hurt. Then they looked for someone to blame, and put a film maker in jail to cover it up. ~Bob)

Hillary Clinton's scandals piling up faster than flakes in a snowstorm
Excerpt: Wading through the daily deluge of Hillary Clinton news, I feel like I’m reading the police blotter. The litany of her shameful shenanigans resembles the litany of neighborhood crimes recorded by cops. There are simply too many to stomach.

Worth Reading: The Rise of House Clinton. By Jonah Goldberg
Excerpt: At the outset of the 1990s, liberals had worked themselves into a moral panic about sexual harassment. If anything, it was a bigger obsession than the campus-rape panic we’ve been witnessing over the last few years (no doubt in part because there was more factual basis to the problem). Male politicians — Bob Packwood, John Tower, et al. — had their careers summarily ended because of their “womanizing” — a term popularized by Tower’s predations. ... Then, the country was presented with proof, incremental and suggestive at first, overwhelming and indisputable by the end of the decade, that Bill Clinton was an irrepressible and irresponsible sexual predator, at least by the moral and evidentiary standards established by feminist activists and the press corps that loves them. And, rather than face the consequences of applying their own principles consistently, they prostrated themselves to the Oval Office. Gloria Steinem raced to the pages of the New York Times to advance the “one free grope” rule. (This is yesterday's "Goldberg File" which I referenced. it is worth subscribing to. ~Bob)

Maureen Reagan for Hillary?
I will feel equality has arrived when we can elect to office women who are as unqualified as some of the men who are already there.

Political Correctness Has Destroyed The Army’s Readiness And Morale. By Ray Sarmann
Excerpt: The U.S. Army is facing its greatest danger as an institution since the 1970’s. Stricken with morale and readiness problems, it is also under attack from leftist social engineers who are determined to remake the Army, even if they have to destroy it. In the 1980’s, men who carried the burden of terrible lessons learned in Vietnam rebuilt the U.S. Army. They created a spectacularly professional force that annihilated Saddam’s legions in a defeat not seen since Agincourt. That Army is nearly extinct.

Ireland has voted to legalize gay marriage, both sides say
Excerpt: Irish voters have resoundingly backed amending the constitution to legalize gay marriage, leaders on both sides of the Irish referendum declared Saturday after the world’s first national vote on the issue. As the official ballot counting continued, the only question appeared to be how large the “yes” margin of victory from Friday’s vote would be. Analysts said the “yes” support was likely to exceed 60 percent nationally when official results are announced later Saturday.

Excerpt: Why do our “best and brightest” fail when faced with a man like Putin? Or with charismatic fanatics? Or Iranian negotiators? Why do they misread our enemies so consistently, from Hitler and Stalin to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State’s self-proclaimed caliph?
The answer is straightforward: Social insularity: Our leaders know fellow insiders around the world; our enemies know everyone else. The mandarin’s distaste for physicality: We are led through blood-smeared times by those who’ve never suffered a bloody nose. And last but not least, bad educations in our very best schools: Our leadership has been educated in chaste political theory, while our enemies know, firsthand, the stuff of life.

VIDEO: Teacher Decided to Stomp on the American Flag, But the Locals Came Out in Full Force
Excerpt: An anti-American teacher at an Illinois high school ignited a firestorm of controversy when he decided that during class, he would use an American flag as a pointing tool to teach that day’s lesson. But after one student bravely and correctly pointed out that using Old Glory for a pointing device was disrespectful, the immature teacher became angry for being called out and proceeded to drop the flag on the ground and stomp on it like a toddler throwing a fit for being denied a cookie.

Dad Who Died in the Line of Duty Couldn’t Be at the Big Game, So Here’s Who Showed Up Instead
Excerpt: A Houston police officer who was protecting innocent citizens was tragically killed in the line of duty Monday, just one day before he would have watched his son pitch in a little league baseball game the following night. ... Martin’s 11-year-old son decided to go ahead and pitch for his baseball team, the Texas Hawks, Tuesday night in honor of his heroic father — but as he began pitching, he noticed in the stands that he wasn’t alone, as dozens of Houston police officers showed up in uniform to show their respect for their fallen colleague and cheer the young pitcher.

U.S. Preparation Lagging to Battle Potentially Devastating EMP. A report has found that up to nine out of 10 Americans could die from a long-term blackout as a result of starvation and societal collapse.
Excerpt: A warning bell is being sounded urging the federal government to take the steps necessary to prepare for an electromagnetic pulse that could cause massive blackouts and damage the nation’s electric grid. Experts maintain an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) resulting from a high-altitude detonation of a nuclear weapon high above the jet stream — perhaps by a rogue state — or a geomagnetic “super storm” caused by the sun could conceivably lead to a blackout lasting months or even years. A 2008 report by the congressional Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse found that up to nine out of 10 Americans could die from a long-term blackout as a result of starvation and societal collapse. (Still citing a 7-year-old report? No newer info? Keep seeing those subliminal National Ad propaganda pieces to "get a disaster plan" but to what point? Bend over and kiss your....goodbye. Sun has been unusually quiet....They'll have to blame it on something else....Barb. We don't need an EMP for collapse. Debt and unfunded liabilities, perhaps $300T, will produce fiscal, economic, political and social collapse soon enough. Every day, it gets more painful to fix, but long term the pain will be unbelievable. ~Bob)

Air Force Decides Not To Court-Martial General Who Mentioned God
Excerpt: The Air Force disagrees. According to a spokesman for the service, Lt. Col. Pete Hughes, Olson did not breach Instruction 1-1 dealing with the exercise of religion....Commenting on the National Day of Prayer controversy, Rev. Franklin Graham, a prominent evangelical Christian leader, said in a Facebook post that “this group would’ve tried to court martial George Washington when he prayed at Valley Forge!

A government of thieves: Truck owner wants DEA to pay up after botched sting
Excerpt: Commandeered by one of his drivers, who was secretly working with federal agents, the truck had been hauling marijuana from the border as part of an undercover operation. And without Patty's knowledge, the Drug Enforcement Administration was paying his driver, Lawrence Chapa, to use the truck to bust traffickers. At least 17 hours before that early morning phone call, Chapa was shot dead in front of more than a dozen law enforcement officers - all of them taken by surprise by hijackers trying to steal the red Kenworth T600 truck and its load of pot. ... But eight months later, Patty still can't get recompense from the U.S. government's decision to use his truck and employee without his permission.

Thus, a people may prefer a free government, but if, from indolence, or carelessness, or cowardice, or want of public spirit, they are unequal to the exertions necessary for preserving it; if they will not fight for it when it is directly attacked; if they can be deluded by the artifices used to cheat them out of it; if by momentary discouragement, or temporary panic, or a fit of enthusiasm for an individual, they can be induced to lay their liberties at the feet even of a great man, or trust him with powers which enable him to subvert their institutions; in all these cases they are more or less unfit for liberty: and though it may be for their good to have had it even for a short time, they are unlikely long to enjoy it. --John Stuart Mill

Funny, from the left: Rush to Judgment. By Gail Collins
Excerpt: Time flies when you’re having fun. Memorial Day weekend, the Fourth of July and then, the next thing you know, it will be Aug. 6, the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and the date of the first Republican presidential debate. ... Fox News, which is hosting the debate, doesn’t want more than 10 people on stage, and that’s a challenge because the number of Republican hopefuls is somewhere between 15 and 2,376. There are two ways to think about this. One is that having 10 debaters is still ridiculous. It’ll be like a playground fight conducted entirely by middle-aged people in suits. (Personally, I think they should skip the debates until the field gets down to four or five after the first primaries. ~Bob)

Puerto Rico's Massive Anti-Austerity Protests Ignored By U.S. Mainland Media
Excerpt: Students in Puerto Rico launched mass protests this week against the governor's attempt to slash some $166 million from the University of Puerto Rico’s budget. That's about one-fifth of the funding for the island's main public university system. College students and their supporters flooded the streets in the capitol of San Juan on Wednesday, where they were met by a police presence that included a SWAT team. A video posted to Facebook by one of the activists appeared to show a police officer striking a protester with a baton. ... Tensions flared even higher on Wednesday after reports that an explosive had detonated near the governor’s mansion, La Fortaleza. No one was hurt by it, and police later described it as a small, improvised “chemical bomb” made of a soda bottle filled with acid and a piece of aluminum, according to Puerto Rican daily El Nuevo Día. Police said they did not know whether the explosion was directly related to the protests.

US warns China not to challenge military flights over South China Sea
Excerpt: The U.S. warned China Thursday against confronting U.S. aerial patrols over the South China Sea days after a verbal dispute between a Chinese military dispatcher and a U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft. The Los Angeles Times reported that the Navy released two videos and an audio recording of the confrontation, which took place on Wednesday when the Chinese dispatcher demanded eight times that the Navy P8-A Poseidon leave the area as it flew over Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly Island chain, where China has conducted extensive reclamation work. (And if they shoot down one of our planes, what will we do? Stop borrowing from them to feed the deficit? ~Bob)

China declares victory in US surveillance overflight
Excerpt: China declared victory on Friday over an encounter with a US surveillance aircraft overflying the contested South China Sea, saying its military "drove away" the intruder with radio warnings. Beijing is in the throes of a rapid land-reclamation programme in the area, building artificial islands and facilities including an airstrip -- raising tensions with Washington and the risk of a standoff on the high seas.

China, Peru and Brazil mull Amazon railway
Excerpt: A Chinese scheme to build an east-west railway across South America, cutting across parts of the Amazon rain forest, has moved a step closer after Peru agreed to study the proposal.
The scheme would link Peru's Pacific coast with Brazil's Atlantic shores. The decision came after talks between the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, and Peruvian President Ollanta Humala.

The deal brings together HP with the investment arm of China's Tsinghua University in a joint venture called H3C, worth $4.5bn. The new firm is being touted as the leader in China for computer servers, storage and technology services.

Shocking statistics about black slavery liberals will NEVER admit. By Allen West
Excerpt: When we look at the failures in the black community today, there seem to be lots of “activists” who want to tell us the problem lies in poor police relations — militant policing and presence. About two weeks ago I was on NPR’s Diane Rehm Show. The issue was about the black community and the other guests ranted on about everything other than what the real problem is — the decimation of the black family. Now, I must apologize because I’ve been sharing that the illegitimacy rate in the black community was 72 percent. I was wrong. It’s now 75 percent.

Do #BlackLivesMatter? 17 shot—2 fatally—in bloody start to Memorial Day weekend
Excerpt: Two men were killed and at least 15 other people—including a 4-year-old girl—have been wounded in shootings across Chicago so far this Memorial Day weekend, police said. ... The girl was shot in the head and taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was in critical condition, authorities said. The teen was shot in the chest and grazed by a bullet in the neck. He was in serious condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. (Only if shot by a white cop. ~Bob)

White House: Racism, Hatred And Violence 'All Too Common On The Internet'
During the White House press briefing yesterday, a New York Times reporter questioned Press Secretary Josh Earnest about President Obama’s new @POTUS Twitter handle, pointing out that many “hateful,” “overtly racist,” comments as well as “violent” and “disturbing” images had been directed at him from other Twitter users. “Has there been any discussion among him and his advisors or here at the White House about whether these kinds of conversations should be tolerated, if these people should be blocked?” the reporter asked. “Unfortunately, those kinds of images and that kind of language is (sic) all too common on the Internet,” Josh Earnest admitted, adding that reporters might be familiar with unsavory material in their own Twitter feeds. (Mr. Earnest, like many in the US, needs remedial grammar class. "Images AND ... language" (2 things) ARE, not is.... FWIW. I know, hateful. --Barb)

DOJ Official: Slavery to Blame for Riots in Ferguson and Baltimore. This lunacy is mainstream thought at the Department of Justice.
Excerpt: Vanita Gupta, head of the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, has told a lawyers group in Colorado that slavery and Jim Crow helped fuel the Ferguson and Baltimore riots. The last few days have seen a number of fanciful stories with the Obama administration seemingly questioning the authority of local police. I’ve long maintained that the administration is nakedly seeking to federalize policing standards — but get rid of local police? (During the period when 500000 black slaves were brought to North America, a million white slaves and perhaps as many black ones were taken to Muslim North Africa. I want reparations or I'll loot the local CVS! ~Bob)

Democrats Call For 'Flood' Of Muslims To U.S. 'We must dramatically increase the number of Syrian refugees that we accept'
Excerpt: A group of 14 Democrat senators has written a letter to President Obama urging him to “dramatically increase” the number of Syrian refugees being resettled into American cities and towns. They say the U.S. needs to take in at least 65,000 Syrians as permanent refugees over the next year-and-a-half. “While the United States is the largest donor of humanitarian assistance to Syrian refugees, we must also dramatically increase the number of Syrian refugees that we accept for resettlement,” says the four-page letter to Obama, copied to Secretary of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson. (Report indicates 90% will be Muslim. Remember the hard time they gave the Christian nun who had been persecuted? They were afraid she would lie and not return to be beheaded and/or raped. But heh, Muslim, carte blanche step to the head of the line. Those signing purportedly include Durbin, Feinstein....--Barb. What % will be Islamic Supremacists, ready to "slay and be slain for Allah"? ~Bob)

Religion of Peace News

Excerpt: But some of the most compelling details in those emails regarding Clinton’s conduct were in regards to the deadly 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi. The emails that the White House regarded Clinton as the “public face of the U.S. effort in Libya” in 2012. “She was instrumental in security the authorization, building the coalition, and tightening the noose around Qadhafi and his regime.” The White House noted that Clinton had been a “critical voice on Libya,” working closely with the president, NATO, and a number of contact groups both during the coalition intervention and in its aftermath. And when officials received a presidential briefing three days after the September 11, 2012 attack that took the life of a U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, Hillary Clinton was asleep.

7 Best Political Cartoons That Show the White House’s ISIS Strategy is a Total Joke

Excerpt: The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) claims Saddam Hussein’s nephew Ibrahim al-Sabawi died near Baiji fighting for the terrorist group. The militants hope to capture a key oil refinery in the town.

Michelle Obama Gets Chilling Mention in Islamic State Magazine Article, ‘Slave-Girls or Prostitutes?’ By Dave Urbanski
Excerpt: The lengthy piece — from the section “From Our Sisters” — lays out the Islamic State’s justification for taking girls as slaves and having sex with them, arguing that it’s much better than prostitution. “Are slave-girls we took by Allah’s command better, or prostitutes — an evil you do not denounce — who are grabbed by the quasi men in the lands of kufr where you live?” It then decries the notion that taking girls as slaves is a violation of human rights and that “copulation with her” is equal to rape. Finally, after declaring that slave markets will be “established against the will of the politically ‘correct,’” the authors bring the first lady into the picture: ”And who knows? Maybe Michelle Obama’s price wont even exceed a third of a dinar, and a third of a dinar is too much for her!”

Worth Reading: Islamic State expands its 'state.' By Samia Nakhoul
Excerpt: To the eyes of many in the region, the real strategic loss behind the IS seizure of two Sunni cities in Iraq and Syria in a week is the evaporation of any Sunni alternative to the jihadis. Although many leaders dismissed IS as vainglorious when it declared its cross-border caliphate in eastern Syria and western Iraq last summer, in its cohesion and purpose it is now seen by some – particularly Iraq’s minority Sunnis – as more of a state than the Iraqi government it is fighting.

Worth Reading: Jihadi bride: “I rejoiced when we had our first sex slave.” by Robert Spencer,
Excerpt: The seizure of Infidel girls and their use as sex slaves is sanctioned in the Qur’an. According to Islamic law, Muslim men can take “captives of the right hand” (Qur’an 4:3, 4:24, 33:50). The Qur’an says: “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war” (33:50). 4:3 and 4:24 extend this privilege to Muslim men in general. The Qur’an says that a man may have sex with his wives and with these slave girls: “The believers must (eventually) win through, those who humble themselves in their prayers; who avoid vain talk; who are active in deeds of charity; who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess, for (in their case) they are free from blame.” (Qur’an 23:1-6) The rape of captive women is also sanctioned in Islamic tradition:

New Jersey Muslim gets life in prison for murder he initially blamed on “Islamophobia. ” By Robert Spencer,
Excerpt: When this murder initially happened, I received this Tweet from a certain Jawad Rasul. It said: Thank You @pamelageller and @jihadwatchRS, If you have any humanity, you might ponder over this! via @newyorkpost. The link went to a story about a murder in New Jersey. Why were Pamela Geller and I being blamed for a murder when we obviously had nothing to do with it or any other murder? The answer was obvious: Islamic supremacists never miss a chance to position Muslims as victims so as to deflect attention away from jihad terror and try to place Islam and the Muslim community beyond reasonable scrutiny.

The Hour Is Later than We Think. Compassion for migrants must not overrule national survival.
Excerpt: The migratory invasion of Europe, uncannily but presciently foreseen in Jean Raspail’s much derided 1973 novel The Camp of the Saints, is now taking place with near-irresistible force on the shores of that beleaguered continent. As National Post columnist Matthew Fisher reports, “Europe is in a deep quandary over how to respond to a huge and growing influx of desperate migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa.”... At the same time, one must also remember that the overwhelming majority of asylum seekers form part of a vast transfer of Muslim populations to Europe, and that Christians in their midst have been thrown overboard. (And radical Muslims noted to sit separately but be mixing in with the tide, not carefully scrutinized by EU, Italy, etc. --Barb)

Excerpt: Let’s make one thing perfectly clear: This Friday, hours before Shabbat is set to begin and one day before the holiday of Shavuot starts, President Obama walked into a D.C. synagogue and proceeded to tell Jews that their religious texts and traditions compel them to give away Israeli land for the creation of a Palestinian state....Do we give the impression of being such pushovers that we turn our pulpits over to world leaders who crap on our identity and manipulate our covenant with God to suit their own personal political agendas?
