It's Sunday, but there's still political news

Update

We went to the charity Madison Bratfest Saturday. Great weather. Bonnie was determined to go, as last year I was in the hospital, went on a ventilator on Memorial Day; hard to eat a brat with a breathing tube down your throat! The docs were writing me off, everyone was except my Marine buddies who know me. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Excerpt: In the Clinton administration's final months, then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton took an active role in White House efforts to give tax breaks to private foundations and wealthy charity donors at the same time that the William J. Clinton Foundation was soliciting donations for her husband's presidential library, Clinton-era documents show. Memos archived in the Clinton Library show that Hillary Clinton endorsed the administration's legislative push for the tax reductions and unveiled the proposals to influential nonprofit representatives during a conference call in January 2000, three months after she and President Bill Clinton hosted charity leaders for a conference on philanthropy at the White House.

A Hillary Clinton Match-Up With Marco Rubio Is a Scary Thought for Democrats. By Jeremy W. Peters, New York Times
Excerpt: They use words like “historic” and “charismatic,” phrases like “great potential” and “million-dollar smile.” They notice audience members moved to tears by an American-dream-come-true success story. When they look at the cold, hard political math, they get uneasy.
An incipient sense of anxiety is tugging at some Democrats — a feeling tersely captured in four words from a blog post written recently by a seasoned party strategist in Florida: “Marco Rubio scares me.”

Hillary Clinton’s unseemly speechifying. By Ruth Marcus, Washington Post
Excerpt: I already weighed in nearly a year ago urging her to stop talking. For money, that is. That unheeded advice came, by my accounting, some $6 million ago. Not including Bill Clinton’s speeches. Not including any speeches that Hillary Clinton made on behalf of the family foundation, which just disclosed that, um, it neglected to disclose somewhere between $12 million and $26 million of money it made by booking the Clintons.

President Hillary Kardashian. By Derek Hunter
Excerpt: Let’s be honest: It is just an unfortunate fact that Hillary Clinton stands a good chance of becoming the next president of the United States. As unappealing as that prospect is, it’s true. It has nothing to do with policy – aside from being old enough, Hillary lacks any qualifications a nation should desire in a leader. It has everything to do with celebrity, and the Clintons are the political Kardashians.

Excerpt: But what if the desire to tip the scales of history’s judgment in his favor leads a president to take dangerous risks? In fact, we know that is what Obama has done with the Iran deal because his aides have told us so. His deputy national security adviser, Ben Rhodes, put it this way last year to a roomful of liberal activists when talking about the initial November 2013 agreement to begin talking about Iran’s nuclear program: “Bottom line is, this is the best opportunity we’ve had to resolve the Iranian issue diplomatically…This is probably the biggest thing President Obama will do in his second term on foreign policy. This is health care for us, just to put it in context.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper Calls Out Democratic Party Over Photo It Used to Celebrate Memorial Day. By Dave Urbanski
Excerpt: Tapper, a big supporter of U.S. soldiers, wasn’t about to let the Democrats’ imagery misfire go unnoticed: “Respectfully, @TheDemocrats, this is not what Memorial Day Weekend is about,” he tweeted in response.

Excerpt: Such praise might have been deserved — if Emma Sulkowicz had actually been raped. But unlike New York Magazine, the New York Times, the New York Post, and a bevy of other national and international publications, Reason’s Cathy Young actually dug into Sulkowicz’s claims that she was anally raped in August 2012, and in early February published a long investigative report in The Daily Beast that threw serious doubt on her accusations. (Bill Clinton was accused of rape--the only rape claim the left didn't believe. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Madison Police have arrested seven people in connection with a spate of recent gun violence, Madison Police Chief Mike Koval said Friday. ... Shortly after the news conference, a State Journal reporter witnessed four or five men visit the Madison Police Department’s Central District office in the City-County Building demanding to file a complaint alleging police discrimination. Police Officer Lester Moore said the men were gang members. Moore spoke to the men, and in a heated verbal confrontation, one of the men told Moore to “let us do us.

Donations pour in for Arizona dog found hanging from tree; Sunny recovers with foster family

Sunny the dog made headlines when someone found him (sic) on May 12. The shepherd mix was hanging from a tree in Tucson with a rope tied around her mouth.

Hawaii groups protest Monsanto, plant coconut trees
Excerpt: Demonstrators spent Saturday planting coconut trees and waving signs in rallies across the Hawaiian Islands as part of an international day of protests against agriculture business Monsanto. The protesters complained about the impacts that companies like Monsanto have on the community when they spray fields with chemical pesticides. They say they want agribusiness companies to stop using Hawaii as a testing ground for pesticides and genetically modified foods. (Aww, gee, no mention of their aluminum-tolerant seeds to deal with all the spraying for geoengineering.--Barb)

Excerpt: A homeowner opened fire on a would-be burglar attempting to break into his home in the 4400 block of Timbercreek. "You have to do what you have to do," said a neighbor, who asked not to be identified.

Excerpt: A Johnston County woman was wounded late Thursday during an apparent home invasion, but she got some shots off herself at the fleeing intruders.

Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo not guilty
Excerpt: A judge ruled Saturday morning that Cleveland police officer Michael Brelo is not guilty of two charges of voluntary manslaughter in connection with the Nov. 29, 2012 police chase and shooting that ended in the deaths of two people. ... Brelo, 31, was one of more than 100 police officers to participate in a 22-minute police chase, and one of 13 who shot at a 1979 Chevy Malibu. The shooting ended in the deaths of the driver, Russell and the passenger, Williams.

Valdosta State Student Who Stomped US Flag Wants To Kill All White People

Amid increased scrutiny, she insisted she had done nothing wrong before tweeting with the hashtag #killallwhitemen. She defended her tweet by saying that minority women cannot be racist or sexist. (Panther mentality not limited to US. --Barb)

Dayvon Love: Our Society 'Structures On The Principal (sic) Of White Supremacy'
Excerpt: Love said, “Banning militarized equipment for law enforcement I think is a good first step, but I think we have to look at the fundamental issue, which is that many people in the community feel like they’re being occupied by an occupying force, right?... We’re in a society structured on the principal of white supremacy. A system that people internalize the notion that black folks’ lives are disposable, that if we saw this kind of violence being exacted on the children of white folks, that we wouldn’t see this same — we would see more protests and outcry from the white community, that I think in many regards [it] is unwilling to make the criticism of institutional racism of law enforcement, because I think there’s an image and symbolism that people have projected on to those folks in communities that are deemed as pathological. (United Black States of America; Black Panther ideology. --Barb)

MS-13 Gang Epidemic Tests Obama's Amnesty Excuse
Excerpt: Recent busts of murderous MS-13 gangsters put the lie to President Obama's sympathetic amnesty narrative of illegal immigrants as "workers who mow our lawns, make our beds (and) clean out bedpans." Authorities Wednesday rounded up 37 MS-13 gang members in Charlotte, N.C., on racketeering conspiracy charges, along with charges of murder, attempted murder and firearms violations. All of them are illegal aliens from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Several are round-trippers — illegals who broke in once, committed crimes, got deported and broke back into the U.S. — proving that our border is porous and unsecured. (Yes, OK, the great majority of illegals are poor people trying to make money to send back home to support families there, or sometimes just trying to settle their families here as "economic refugees". But a too-significant fraction are Bad Guys, seriously dangerous people, some in the gangs, and some just violent criminals and some irresponsible lowlifes who drive drunk in uninsured cars. In any case, not vigorously finding and expelling all the criminal ones as quickly and efficiently as possible is just stupid, and a serious disservice to the nation that the government is supposed to be protecting. --Del)

43 dead in hours-long firefight on Mexican ranch
Excerpt: At least 43 people died Friday in what authorities described as a fierce, three-hour gunbattle between federal forces and suspected drug gang gunmen on a ranch in western Mexico, the deadliest such confrontation in recent memory. All the dead were suspected criminals except for one federal police officer, National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said. He said the officer died trying to help a colleague wounded in the shootout.

EPA Plan to Ban Coal Hits Major Roadblock. By Phil Kerpen
Excerpt: The EPA proposal to impose a de facto ban on new coal-fired power plants received more than two million comments from the public - but it looks like it was just one five-page comment from the Energy and Environment Legal Institute (E&E Legal) that sent EPA scrambling back to the drawing board. The draft rule mandated the use of so-called carbon capture and storage, a technology that would inject carbon dioxide underground but which has so far proved to be little more than a white elephant experiment. To mandate this technology, the law required the EPA to prove it was "adequately demonstrated" and "commercially available." Thanks to E&E Legal, they failed.

Worth Reading: Obama’s ISIS Credibility Gap. By Bing West
Excerpt: n May 15, an American general said, “We firmly believe [ISIS] is on the defensive throughout Iraq and Syria.” On May 16, after a senior ISIS leader was killed in a US raid into Syria, a White House spokeswoman said, “We’ve devastated the Iraq-based leadership,” On May 17, ISIS seized Ramadi, the capital of Anbar Province in the heartland of Sunni Iraq. From 2003 through 2008, I returned each year to Ramadi to embed with our grunts. In 2003, our soldiers were welcomed and we could freely walk the streets. A year later, in April of 2004, our infantry battled up and down the streets. Battalion 2/4 lost 34 Marines.

Video: White House Downplays Fall of Ramadi

Excerpt: The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) claims it has access to nuclear weapons through the nation of Pakistan, according to an article by longtime ISIS captive John Cantlie in the latest issue of their official magazine, Dabiq. In “The Perfect Storm,” allegedly penned by the British Cantlie, the group asserts that they possess billions, enough to buy a nuclear bomb “’from weapons dealers with links to corrupt officials’ in Pakistan.” If they cannot buy the weapon, Cantlie writes, the group would be satisfied with buying a “few thousand tons of ammonium nitrate explosive.”

Excerpt: Iranian-backed Shiite militias, including Hezbollah Brigades, a US-listed Foreign Terrorist Organization, are leading the Iraqi government’s counteroffensive to regain control of Ramadi, which was lost to the Islamic State last week. The militias are now eclipsing Iraq’s security forces in the fight against the Islamic State. Thousands of fighters from Shiite militias operating under the aegis of the Popular Mobilization Committee, backed by units from the Iraqi Army’s Golden Division and more than a thousand policemen, launched the counteroffensive from the city of Habbaniyah, one of the last government-controlled areas in eastern Anbar yesterday.

Clinton appears to rule out US ground forces to fight the Islamic State. By Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org
Excerpt: “But at the end of the thought process that I engage in … this has to be fought by and won by the Iraqis.” This assumes that the problem of the Islamic State is one that only involves Iraqis, and is simply a question of who should govern Iraq. Hillary is completely ignoring the fact that the Islamic State considers itself to be at war with the U.S. and the West, and has vowed to sow mayhem in the streets of this country. Ground troops in Iraq would be disastrous and self-defeating if they became another Wilsonian nation-building exercise draining this nation’s resources. But the Islamic State will not be beaten without them. Destroying it and getting out would set the global jihad back considerably. But it looks as if under our next President, the caliphate will continue to grow, and to plot to murder as many Americans as possible.

Worth Reading: ISIS' use of children: Propaganda and military training. By Jethro Mullen, CNN
Excerpt: Another boy told CNN last year that ISIS forced his father to send him to one of its children's camps in northern Syria when he was just 13. "For 30 days we woke up and jogged, had breakfast, then learned the Quran and the Hadith of the Prophet. Then we took courses on weapons, Kalashnikovs and other light military stuff," said the boy, who later fled to Turkey with his family. Some of the militants at the camp were kind, joking and laughing with the younger recruits, he recalled. Others made the boys watch hideous things. "They used to bring young [kids] to the camp to lash them," said the boy, whose real name was withheld because of fears for his safety. "When we go to the mosque, they order us to come the next day at a specific time and place to [watch] heads cut off, lashings or stonings." "We saw a young man who did not fast for Ramadan, so they crucified him for three days, and we saw a woman being stoned [to death] because she committed adultery," he said.

ISIS Attacks on the West. By Daniel Pipes
Excerpt: The May 3 assault on a Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, prompted much discussion about the assailants' connections to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, ISIL, and Daesh. Did ISIS run them as agents? Are they part of a new network of terror in the West?
Clearly, the Garland jihadis had some connections to ISIS. The leader, Elton Simpson, used Twitter to trade calls for violence with Muhammed Abdullahi Hassan (also known as Mujahid Miski), 25, an ISIS recruiter who grew up in Minneapolis.

Boycott?
Now that Ireland has spoken loud and clear for human rights, how about some campus political action for boycotts against those countries that persecute gay people, those that deny rights to women, those that mutilate their little girls, those that deny minority religions the right to free and peaceful existence, those that hate America and support terrorists, those that lack political democracy or social/economic opportunity? Fat chance. . They're all Arab, Moslem, African, Asian countries or Russia. Try getting today's college lefties (and their mindless followers) to boycott them. They're too busy going after Israel. --PM. (This is from a friend, a blog reader and a liberal Democrat.)

Pew Poll Analysis: A Billion Muslims Want Sharia Law
Excerpt: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that with 1.6B Muslims, even if 10% of them were radical, that’s 160 million people: about half of the total US population. But in looking closer at their survey, I’d put the number closer to 25%. My analysis focused only on the questions about Sharia law: (1) Should the law of the land be Sharia law?; and (2) should that apply to everyone, including non-Muslims? Pew asked question (1) in countries that account for about a billion Muslims, and question (2) in countries that account for about 830 million. If you accept their results in just the countries they surveyed, we learn that: — 70%, or 700 million Muslims out of the billion represented by Q1 of their survey, want Sharia law to be the law of the land; — 32%, or 266 million Muslims out of the 840 million represented by Q2 of their survey, want to force it upon everyone.

Legitimizing Censorship: ‘Islamophobia Studies’ at Berkeley. By Cinnamon Stillwell and Rima Greene
Excerpt: “Islamophobia studies” is the latest addition to the academic pantheon of politicized, esoteric, and divisive “studies” whose purpose is to censor criticism of differing views by stigmatizing critics as racist or clinically insane. The University of California, Berkeley’s recent Sixth Annual International Islamophobia Conference—organized by the Islamophobia Research & Documentation Project (IRDP)—was titled, “The State of the Islamophobia Studies Field.” The fact that this “field” doesn’t yet formally exist in the U.S. may explain why speakers the first day of the conference barely mentioned it. As in years past, the conference featured victimology, academic jargon, and anti-Western rhetoric.
