Political News, Consvative Comment--and a Parade Today

Update

On Sunday, 9/21, we took the granddaughter, Britnye (14) and grandson, Dale (2.5) to the bi-annual Green Country Cheese Days Parade in Monroe. (On the way there, I had a usual coughing spell as the new lung cleared mucus, and the little guy asked, "You OK, Am-Pa?") Monroe is the county seat, a small city, with a square, courthouse and Civil war monument in the center of an agricultural, cows and cheese making area. Nice to be someplace where most folks stood when the flag went by. There were many excellent, large high school bands. (When we lived in South Jersey, 97-02, my high school, 8 miles from Philly, which had a great band when I was a student, was fielding about nine kids.) Outside Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin is America like it used to be.

With Sunday at the parade and Saturday at a flea market, I didn't pull as much for the blog from my email and news feeds as usual, but there is some good stuff here. ~Bob

General News and Comment

Hillary's "Plumbers" Hid Benghazi Docs
Excerpt: : Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton promised "unfettered access" to the Benghazi Accountability Review Board. But it turns out that promise may be as much a lie as the inflammatory video story. We were not impressed by the methods or findings of the Accountability Review Board (ARB) after the terrorist attack on our Benghazi diplomatic mission on Sept. 11, 2012, starting with not interviewing the person where the buck was supposed to stop, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (When the Watergate debacle began, Nixon and his people were not very good at all in getting it covered up, and the investigation inevitably uncovered the truth. Not so the case with Benghazi, where the misdirection, obfuscation, and outright lies worked well enough to keep the public from ever getting really involved and angry. Of course, in Nixon's case the media were on him like white on rice, while for Hillary and Obama, the media were totally friendly and are still not exactly eager to report objectively on something that should be a huge story, the death of an American Ambassador. --Del)

Mayor: New high school won't be named after President Obama
Excerpt: Mayor Rahm Emanuel backed off Thursday from naming a new elite high school after President Barack Obama amid ongoing criticism from African-Americans who felt the honor inappropriate for a school slated for a wealthy, predominantly white part of the Near North Side. (The debating team would have needed teleprompters, but the golf team would have been unbeatable. ~Bob)

55-year-old Willmar man masquerading as an Army hero may trade uniform for prison garb
Excerpt: He cut an impressive figure in his Army dress blues and his high and tight haircut. His uniform bore the medals and awards of a war hero: Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, a Ranger Tab, Master Jump Wings. Telling folks he was a command sergeant major in the Army, he made his way around various VFWs and American Legion posts in west-central Minnesota.

Rapist Who Can't Bear Prison to Be Euthanized. Belgian killer didn't want parole but couldn't bear prison. By Rob Quinn
Excerpt: Frank Van Den Bleeken, a Belgian man in prison for multiple rapes and a rape-murder, has decided he wants to die and authorities have decided they can grant that request. Van Den Bleeken, 50, has been in prison for nearly 30 years and has declined to seek parole because he believes his uncontrollable urges make him a danger to society, but he says he can no longer bear prison conditions and his own "unbearable psychic suffering," AFP reports. (Wow, I hadn't realized that they were mercy killing so many people in Belgium. And not just people suffering with terminal conditions, you can just decide to opt out if you believe your life is just not worth living, and in fact is somehow unbearable. I am shocked, but I guess this is part of what comes with secularization of a society. --Del)

Excerpt: “You can see that these doctors, who are highly trained people, got themselves infected,” said Dr. Lee Hieb, former president of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. “So sending troops into an area, if they’re dealing one-on-one with a patient, they’re not going to be able to protect themselves very well. It’s not easy to [prevent transmission], because you get tired and you get careless and you make some simple mistakes. All it takes is one virus particle.”

Worth Reading: U.S. Officials In Meltdown On Obama's Ebola Mission. Joseph R. John, USNA ‘62
Capt USN(Ret), Chairman, Combat Veterans For Congress PAC
Excerpt: In the Middle East, for the past 3 years, Obama has avoided exercising traditional US leadership in the world community to mobilize support for the prevention of the continued slaughter of Christians (by his inaction, by taking no action, he has signaled ISIL that it is safe to continue slaughtering Christians. Obama continues to state almost daily, that there will be no boots on the ground in the Middle East; ISI has become emboldened by his telling them what he will not do. Instead of inserting boots on the ground with small Special Operations units in the Levant of what used to be Iraq, to coordinate command & control, US air operations & strikes, and gathering of actionable intelligence, and instead of putting 3000 military boots on the ground along the southern border to stem the massive influx of Illegal Immigrants, drug smugglers, human smugglers, and terrorist flooding across the southern border, Obama is executing a very dangerous plan to deploy 3000 US military personnel to the Ebola infected jungles of Liberia. Obama has placed the 3000 military personnel under the command of the State Department not the Defense Department. (Check out www.combatveteransforcongress.org. ~Bob)

Excerpt: Portions of gubernatorial candidate Mary Burke’s jobs plan were copied from previous proposals of other Democratic candidates, and her campaign has cut ties with the consultant responsible, the campaign acknowledged Friday. (To be accurate, they should call it "Mary Burke's Ex-Consultant's Plagiarized Jobs Plan." ~Bob)

Who would have guessed? Weed-Smoking Teens 60 Percent Less Likely to Finish High School, Study Says
Excerpt: According to a new set of studies published in a paper in the British journal The Lancet Psychiatry, teenagers who smoke pot daily are 60 percent less likely than nonusers to finish high school. The studies of adolescent cannabis use also show that daily users under age 17 were 60 percent less likely to finish college than teens who didn’t smoke at all, seven times more likely to attempt suicide and eight times more likely to use illegal drugs at some point in their lives.

Excerpt: On Friday, the 19th of September 2014, anti-self-defense group North Carolinians Against Gun Violence will hosted a “Memorial Service” for Nigel Scarlett, who was killed by gunfire on December 11th of 2011. ... Conspicuously absent will be any mention of the fact that Nigel Scarlett was a convicted felon. Previously convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, plus a wide assortment of misdemeanors including illegally carrying a concealed firearm, Mr. Scarlett is sadly typical of homicide victims.

Obamacare/Government Healthcare News

Is Obamacare Collapsing In Minnesota? By John Hinderaker
Excerpt: Obamacare in Minnesota is called MNSure. The state had the usual problems (worse, I believe, than in most states) getting its system and its web site up and running. Once the enrollment period got underway, the dominant insurer turned out to be PreferredOne. Reportedly offering the lowest premiums in the nation, PreferredOne signed up nearly 60% of all MNSure participants. So it was a bombshell when PreferredOne announced earlier this week that it will no longer participate in the state’s exchange, saying that “continuing to provide this coverage through MNsure is not sustainable.” It seems a foregone conclusion that this will lead to higher premiums, at a minimum. PreferredOne’s decision also calls into question the economic viability of the Obamacare model. (Someone else has noticed what is going on in MN. --Del)

Excerpt: Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel has just announced that he plans on dying at age 75 and implies that the rest of us should work toward achieving this too. Dr. Emanuel, brother of Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago, is a major advocate of universal health care and was a key advisor to the president on formulating the Affordable Care Act, or as we know it, Obamacare. Indeed, a few years ago, Emanuel was accused by Betsy McCaughey and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, among others, of favoring euthanasia and death panels for individuals. (Over 75? You are considered "advanced age" these days. Slightly demented? Just be a DNR and get it over with and quit wasting $$. Used to be the gov provided extra precautions for the feeble minded and handicapped. Remember that pile of prostheses at Auschwitz? --Barb)

474 Illegals From Terrorism-Linked Countries Apprehended In 2014 Alone
Excerpt: U.S. Border Patrol agents have apprehended at least 474 aliens from terrorism-linked countries attempting to sneak into the country illegally this year alone, according to a leaked document obtained by Breitbart Texas. (Just hard working people seeking [to take a] better life. ~Bob)

Helle Tryggedson's home taken over by 200 bats, authorities powerless due to protected status of the flying rodents.
http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/09/11/200-bats-invade-Danish-womans-home/3251410450014/
Excerpt: Tryggedson said local officials told her they couldn't remove the bats because they are a protected species in Denmark, so she sought the help of Lars Bruun Hansen with the Danish Nature Agency. (In the worldwide contest to see which country's environmentalists are the most wacko, Denmark has to be a contender. ~Bob)

Former head of Marine Corps: ‘Not a snowball’s chance In hell’ Obama’s plan succeeds
Excerpt: A former Marine Corps Commandant told an audience that President Obama’s strategy to defeat Islamic State militants doesn’t have a “snowball’s chance in hell” of succeeding Speaking at a conference in Washington, General James Conway, who served as the 34th Commandant of the Marine Crops at the end of the Bush administration and beginning of the Obama administration, said that he was skeptical that the U.S. had reliable ground forces in Iraq, the Daily Caller reported Friday. (Of course the general didn't say things like this when he was CMC, but then his immediate superior was SecNav, whose immediate superior was Mr. Obama, so it would have been inappropriate (or suicidal) to really contradict the President. Now he is free to do what's right. --Del)

Mark Levin: ‘You Actually Have A Revolt Going On With The Top Generals And Obama’ [VIDEO]
Excerpt: Obama does not view this as a military action. .... For him, the truth is it’s about politics. It’s about containing this issue politically for him so he can focus on fundamentally transforming America.” (Remember that flexibility on the hot microphone; cutting our military, decreasing our protective missiles, and now overflights and strafing runs by the Russians on US airspace x2. You figure it out, sheeple. The voices in the wilderness are wailing like prophets from the Bible so detested now. See how well the Evil One protects you after his gifts/bribes disappear and turn into empty ash and he has your soul. --Bob)

Mark Steyn: Obama Has ‘No Interest In Driving A Stake’ Through ISIS
Excerpt: He wants to neutralize them as an issue in November,” said the bestselling author. “He wants to seen to be appearing to do just enough to make ISIS go off the front pages.”... “It would have been fascinating if they were doing D-Day now, and no Democrats showed up at the beaches of Normandy because they were all at some fundraiser.”

U.S. boots are already on the ground against the Islamic State. By David Ignatius
Excerpt: Here’s a national-security riddle: How can President Obama provide limited military support on the ground to help “degrade and ultimately destroy” the Islamic State without formally violating his pledge not to send U.S. combat troops? The answer may lie in the legal alchemy known as “Title 50.” Title 50 of the U.S. Code regulates the activities of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Pretending we're not at war: Presidents no longer ask Congress to declare war when ordering the military into action. That suits most Americans just fine. By William Falk
Excerpt: When is a war not a war? U.S. fighter planes are attacking ISIS forces in Iraq and will soon do so in Syria, which meets the common-sense criteria for war. But the U.S. Constitution and the War Powers Resolution of 1973 both require specific congressional authorization for war, and President Obama isn't asking Congress for permission.

Islamic State murders Christian children who refuse submission to Islam
Excerpt: A message from Anglican Mainstream to supporters on September 18 said that in a town captured by the Islamic State, Muslim militants are going house to house and asking the children to denounce Jesus. According to Anglican Mainstream, a missionary wrote to say that so far no children have apostasized. However, all of them were killed by the Muslims for their witness, even while their parents were left unharmed. (Unverified--but sounds like them. ~Bob)

49 Turkish hostages held by ISIS freed, prime minister says
Excerpt: Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Saturday that 49 hostages who were seized by Islamic militants in Iraq have been freed and safely returned to Turkey, ending Turkey's most serious hostage crisis. ... Their release contrasts with the recent beheadings of two U.S. journalists and a British aid worker by the Islamic State group, but it wasn't immediately clear what Turkey had done to secure the safe release of the hostages. (Not clear? Turkey refused to join Obama's anti-ISIS coalition...and was rewarded. ~Bob)

Christianity in Iraq is finished. By Daniel Williams
Excerpt: In the part of his Sept. 10 speech on confronting the Islamic State that probably drew the least attention, President Obama mentioned the need to help Christians and other minorities, expelled from cities and villages in northern Iraq, return from where they came. “We cannot allow these communities to be driven from their ancient homeland,” he said. Obama got that wrong. Christians, of whom around 120,000 have taken refuge in Iraqi Kurdistan, will not be going home even if their tormentors suddenly disappear.

White House Hosts Syrian Activist Who Sees AQ-Tied Rebels as Moderate. By Ravi Kumar
Excerpt: Fresh from congressional approval to arm and train Syrian rebel groups fighting the vicious Islamic State terrorist group, the White House met this week with Syrian American advocates to discuss how to proceed. But one of the people consulted is on record defending and sympathizing with Syrian rebels tied to al-Qaida.

More Israeli female soldiers fought in Gaza than in past wars, but some say not enough
Excerpt: About 50 Israeli women served inside Gaza, the highest number yet during an Israeli conflict. But their prominence has renewed debate about the position of women in the nation’s army, with critics saying the percentage of combat roles filled by women — about 3.3 — is too low for a military that prides itself on being one of the world’s only with mandatory service for men and women. (I'd bet those demanding more are not demanding that their own daughters go. ~Bob. Israeli society is, by our standards, liberal, and demands equality between the genders. So there are those who want to see women right up front with the men in combat. The Army resists this, because people who have been in close combat know there will be special problems then. And no one wants to think of what will happen to any woman Israeli soldier captured by the maniacs. So there are women up towards the front, according to this, 3.3% of the combat roles are filled by women, and none of those are in infantry units, they are in other combat units, maybe tanks or artillery. So now the activists are pushing harder for women to be more in combat. How far this will go, I can't say. Maybe until there are women up front and the bloody price gets paid, or one is captured and found raped to death with her nose and breasts cut off, as happened way back when Israel was founded. If I were an Israeli I would be happy to see women serving, but I would never want my daughter to be in the infantry or any other unit that is involved in close combat. --Del)

Excerpt: The Pakistani military killed a senior commander for the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan during recent fighting in North Waziristan. The commander had been released from a prison in Afghanistan, according to a statement from the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, which announced his death.

4 Possible Terrorists May Have Tried to Enter US Through Texas-Mexico Border, Says House National Security Subcommittee Chairman

Iranians sentenced to 91 lashes for Pharrell 'Happy' video
Excerpt: The six Iranian singers who were arrested for appearing in a viral video dancing to Pharrell Williams’ song “Happy” have been sentenced to six months in prison and 91 lashes. (Apparently, Allah is a prick. How could you worship such a God? ~Bob)

Pakistani academic accused of blasphemy shot dead in Karachi
Except: A Pakistani academic known for promoting liberal views on Islam has been shot dead by gunmen – two years after being accused of committing blasphemy in a speech he made in the US. Dr Muhammad Shakil Auj, Dean of the faculty of Islamic Studies at the University of Karachi, was attacked by two gunmen on a motorbike as he was making his way in his car to a function at the city’s Iranian cultural centre. (Here is yet another example of why we don’t see more genuine Muslim reformers. Shakil Auj’s crime was saying that non-Muslim men should be able to marry Muslim women — a challenge to the supremacist Islamic law that endeavors to ensure that Muslim communities will always be growing and non-Muslim communities will always be in decline. For that, he is dead. And if he had lived in the U.S., of course, he would long ago have been dismissed as a “hatemonger” and a “bigot.” --Robert Spencer, JihadWatch.org.)

The Case for a Unified Kurdistan. By Daniel Pipes
Excerpt: Is a united and independent Kurdistan a prospect we should welcome, or a dangerous idea that would create more problems in the Middle East than it would solve? Philip Jenkins, a distinguished professor of history at Baylor University, sees the prospect of a grand Kurdistan, with Iraqi, Syrian, Turkish, and Iranian components, as "actively terrifying." I'd like to assure him that it also has the potential to be benign.

Dem Rep: 40 American ISIL Fighters Have Already Returned to the United States. These individuals under surveillance, 'being tracked' by the FBI. By Adam Kredo
http://freebeacon.com/national-security/dem-rep-40-american-isil-fighters-have-already-returned-to-the-united-states/
Excerpt: Rep. Tim Bishop (D., N.Y.) warned during a recent speech that up to 40 radicalized U.S. citizens who have fought alongside the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL or ISIS) have already returned to the United States, where they could pose a terrorist threat. (Tracked? I'd feel better with "rounded up and shot." ~Bob)

Obama’s Go-To ‘Moderate Islamist.’ His appointment to a Department of Homeland Security council has been dropped. By Andrew C. McCarthy

Excerpt: On Monday, I had a follow-up to last week's column on why members of the Obama administration and other transnational progressives deny that the Islamic State is Islamic — viz., because they want to ally with what they call “moderate Islamists.” If Americans grasp that “moderate Islamists” and violent jihadists share the same basic ideology, such an alliance becomes politically untenable. Case in point: The curious tale of Mohamed Elibiary, the Obama administration’s go-to “moderate Islamist” for counterterrorism advice.
