Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for February 26, 2013

Old Jarhead's Political SitRep for February 26, 2013
Robert A. Hall

Sunday TV. I gather there was something called The Academy Awards on TV Sunday night. I was busy with this blog and reading, plus I had to be up at 4:45 am so hit the rack early, and didn’t watch. But, frankly, I watch very little TV. And, I’m sorry, but anything that came in that said “Academy Awards” was deleted unread. I have time for some trivia, but not Hollywood. I’m just not interested. ~Bob.

Muslim Arabs hunted, enslaved, tortured and killed ethnic Africans for a millennium. Middle Eastern Muslim Arabs have a history of over 1400 years of human ... (I've known this for years. Of course, it will never be taught in our politically correct schools (government indoctrination centers), for fear of "offending" Muslims. Slavery in America would probably not have been possible without Muslim/Arab slave traders. Or, for African chiefs selling their own people to the slavers. In my opinion, most of the problems of the world have always been caused by, and are the result of Muslims. Even the United States' first "war" was a military operation against the Barbary Pirates (Muslims), hence the "...to the shores of Tripoli" in the Marine's Hymn. –LLW. Yes. Of course, as often, the Africans raided rival tribes for slaves to sell. In his excellent essay, “The Real history of Slavery,” (from Black Rednecks and White Liberals), Dr. Thomas Sowell points out that every people were at some point enslaved, that only the western world eventually turned against slavery, and that in the same period when 500,000 African slaves were brought to North America, a million white European slaves were kidnapped by Muslims and taken to north Africa, often living and dying in far worse conditions. Excerpts here: http://www.behavior.net/bolforums/showthread.php?p=6738#post6738
At the Battle of Lepanto, 1572, one of several key battles that saved Europe from Muslim conquest over several centuries, the victorious Christians liberated 12,000 Christian galley slaves from the defeated Muslims. A good account is linked below. ~Bob.

Quote from The Patriot Post
"Any single man must judge for himself whether circumstances warrant obedience or resistance to the commands of the civil magistrate; we are all qualified, entitled, and morally obliged to evaluate the conduct of our rulers." --English philosopher John Locke

Worth Reading: Sequester Hysteria: Obama and Democrats resort to denial, fear-mongering and extortion to avoid any spending cuts. By Arnold Ahlert
Excerpt: One last thing. More Americans need to become familiar with the concept of baseline budgeting. In simple terms, if an agency's budget is $100, and they are expecting an increase of $10.00 next year, but they only get $8.00, politicians characterize that as a $2.00 cut in spending. Concerning the entire $1.2 trillion in "cuts" engendered by the sequester, it must be understood that they are not really cuts at all.

Tweet from RB ‏@RBPundit
While Obama campaigns to scare people about the sequester, why isn't he going through the budget "line by line" like he promised? (Same reason he hasn’t done other things he promised like cut the deficit in half or post bills on the Internet before signing. They were to get elected, not to do. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: What makes [the film] “Walking Wounded” particularly powerful, tragic and life -affirming in equal measure is that it is reported through the eyes of Giles Duley, a British photographer, who had both of his legs and an arm blown off exactly two years ago, while embedded with US troops in Afghanistan. Amazingly, the film opens with his medevac, shot on a soldier’s helmetcam. Even more amazingly, Giles Duley decided to go back.

British News Anchorman Jon Snow: I was abducted as a child.
Excerpt: This is a dramatic moment in the affairs of men and women; we shall all be tested. But don’t underestimate what this time means to the abused. I know, I was six years old when a member of the domestic staff at the school, where my father taught, abducted me.

Long-time escort confirms Senator Bob Menendez paid her for sex
Excerpt: A professional escort who travels the East Coast seeing clients in cities from Miami to Boston has identified a photo of Senator Bob Menendez as a man who paid her for sex. The woman, in her late 30s, told The Daily Caller prior to seeing Menendez’s photo that she had been paid to provide sexual favors to several U.S. senators, including a New Jersey Democrat and other politicians who are no longer living. (Weird. Usually Republicans pay escorts. Democrats hire interns and let the taxpayers pay for it. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: The number of people in America on Food Stamps remains at an all-time high, and now a new program is allowing Fido, Garfield and their peers to get in on the goods.
While the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program administered by the states, Pet Food Stamps is a New York-based nonprofit that helps pet owners who can’t afford to support their animal friends. “The Pet Food Stamps program … has been created to fill the void in the United States Food Stamp program which excludes the purchase of pet food and pet supplies. (Article and title say NY and link says NM? –Barb.)

A Digital Shift on Health Data Swells Profits in an Industry
Excerpt: But today, as doctors and hospitals struggle to make new records systems work, the clear winners are big companies like Allscripts that lobbied for that legislation and pushed aside smaller competitors.

Annnnnnd the Hanford Nuclear Reservation is leaking again.
Excerpt: Six underground radioactive waste tanks at the nation’s most contaminated nuclear site are leaking, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee said Friday. The tanks, which already are long past their intended 20-year life span, hold millions of gallons (liters) of a highly radioactive stew left from decades of plutonium production for nuclear weapons….It would appear that what actually happened here was that Barack Obama decided instead to ignore the entire issue the second that he got out of that town hall, because certainly pretty much nothing at all has happened since then. (Obama ordered tentative national nuclear storage site at Yucca MountainNV, closed to “keep a campaign pledge” in 2010. It was supposedly nearly completed. Looks like “folks” in WA are SOL just like the “folks” still in tents with blizzards post Sandy who were “promised help.” –Barb.)

Inside the $48,000 Oscar Gift Bag
Excerpt: For the past eleven years, PR firm Distinctive Assets has been putting together the “Everyone Wins at the Oscars Nominee Gift Bag.” This year’s bag is estimated to be worth between $45,000 and$48,000. Unsurprisingly, the goodies include some considerably lavish items: a $12,000 trip to one of two Australian resorts, a $4,100 stay at a fitness retreat, a $5,000 Vampire Facelift, a cosmetic procedure which re-injects gel-like substances from a patient’s blood back into their face, and hundreds of dollars worth of acupuncture, VIP services, and nutrition. (What it means to be “In the Party (Regime).” The “treats” in these bags handed to Oscar attendees surpass what many “folks” make in a year, in a time when many have given up finding a job and true unemployment is high. If these liberals were truly concerned about “folks” one would think they would take the money spent on their narcissism and give it to charity or the homeless. Again, liberal disconnect. Oh, but they cost $10,000 less than prior years, supposedly “cheapest in 5 years.” –Barb. The left wing one percent. Hope they are paying their fair share of taxes on those bags. ~Bob.)

Cardinal Keith O'Brien resigns amid claims of inappropriate behaviour
excerpt: Cardinal Keith O'Brien, the UK's most senior Roman Catholic cleric, has resigned with immediate effect after being accused of "inappropriate acts" towards fellow priests. News that Pope Benedict had accepted the cardinal's resignation as archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh came after the Observer disclosed a series of allegations by three priests and one former priest.

Obamacare's Health Exchanges Are Customer Free Zones. By Sally Pipes
Excerpt: That’s ominous news for Obamacare. If insurers don’t participate in the law’s exchanges, then consumers who had hoped to secure affordable coverage through the new marketplaces will instead find few choices and high prices. Taxpayers could be hit hard, too, as higher premiums in the exchanges will require more public spending on subsidies.

Half of Detroit Properties Have Not Paid Taxes; Update on Detroit Bankruptcy. By Mike Shedlock
Excerpt: The hollowing out of Detroit is nearly complete. All that's left is a bankrupt shell of a city with no services and scattered citizens that do not pay taxes. (Guess they aren’t paying their fair share. They will now come for more from you. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: Last November 7th at least 48% of us woke up and were stunned to learn that America had voted to re-elect Barack Obama. 30 million unemployed Americans, $6 trillion dollars added to the national debt in four short years, Gross Domestic Product growth half of the historic average, and the failure of Obama's "Arab Spring" strategy in the Middle East simply were not failures enough to change leadership.

Islamist Assassinations in the West. By Daniel Pipes
Excerpt: Horrific as the first two forms of terrorism are, assassinations are the most terrifying and effective. Whereas the first two can happen to anyone and have the effect of creating a vague dread, the third focuses on a small pool of targets and sends a specific signal to others not to follow in their footsteps. Assassinations intimidate the most and have the gravest consequences.

Worth Reading: The War of Ideologies in the Arab World. By Najat Fawzy AlSaied
Excerpt: Now a similar mistake is being made by U.S. policies through apparent support for the Muslim brotherhood. Clerics on satellite channels who directly incite terrorist acts must be should be held responsible as criminals. Terrorism cannot be defeated only by killing extremist leaders and holding premature elections. Radical Islamist ideology must be analyzed and challenged. … Najat AlSaied is a PhD researcher in media and development at University of Westminster in London-UK.

Worth Reading: Terrorism Without End. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The reason why the Israeli-Palestinian peace process is doomed can be summed up in a paragraph. The Arab populations left in political limbo when Israel recaptured in 1967 the territory that it had lost to Egypt and Jordan in 1948 exist only as a strategic weapon of disruption. They have been shaped into a population that is defined only by terrorism because that is the purpose that their sponsors put them to. There can be no constructive outcome of the conflict because you cannot negotiate with a weapon.

Muslims Torch and Loot 200 Hindu Homes in West Bengal
Didn’t get the memo. ~Bob. Excerpt: Amidst a near-complete media blackout and distressing silence from statutory bodies like the National Human Rights Commission, a serious communal flare up has taken place in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, with more than 200 Hindu homes torched and looted in four villages — Naliakhali, Herobhanga, Gopalpur and Goladogra, in the Canning police station area, from the wee hours of February 19.

Aaron, 9, ‘bullied to death for being white’: Family blames Asian yobs for suicide
Excerpt: THE devastated family of a nine-year-old boy who hanged himself say he took his life after racist taunts by Asian bullies. Aaron Dugmore — thought to be one of Britain’s youngest suicides after bullying — was found in his bedroom after months of jibes at school, they claim. (”Asian” is British medic PC code for Muslim. ~Bob)

Obama: If Republicans don’t give me what I want I will make planes fall from the sky
Excerpt: …He has been lying about the sequester since the debates. The sequester was Obama’s team’s idea: Page 326 (July 26): At 2:30 p.m., [White House Budget director Jack] Lew and [White House legislative affairs director Rob] Nabors went to the Senate to meet with [Senator Majority Leader Harry] Reid and his chief of staff, David Krone. “We have an idea for a trigger,” Lew said. …“Sequestration.”

Obama’s Dr. Ben Carson Problem
Excerpt: Dr. Carson doesn’t even really consider himself a conservative. … But, conservative or not, he articulated conservatism in such a manner that Barack Obama, the democrats, and the liberal media did not know how to respond, at first…. And Dr. Benjamin Carson being black, but viewing himself not as a race, but as an American, makes it all the more difficult.

The NLRB’s Terrible Tuesday…
Excerpt: This past Tuesday, Obama’s unconstitutional appointees at the NLRB received another blow to their efforts to conduct union “ambush elections.” Since last May, the NLRB has had its ambush election rules “temporarily suspended” when a U.S. District Court judge ruled the NLRB lacked a proper quorum when implementing its new rules….On Tuesday, in a one-page order, the Court of Appeals ordered that the case be removed from the calendar for oral arguments and held in abeyance.

Gen. Boykin: Obama Going Wrong Way On Families
Barack Obama called during his State of the Union for taxpayer-funded universal preschool for children, which would yank them out of their homes at an even earlier age. But a new study shows the opposite – family cohesion, is the No. 1 determinant of a healthy home and a healthy society. …“Family intactness, when measured, always has a beneficial influence on U.S. social policy outcomes,” said Boykin, who serves as Family Research Council‘s executive vice president. (Shades of WWII, Scientology….and it costs $$ and recent studies showing lack of Head Start efficacy being swept under Dem carpet. –Barb.)

Students Made To Wear Burqas In U.S. State: Muslim garb taught as alternative dress – not oppressive to women
Excerpt: There’s a new controversy in Texas involving the online public school curriculum called CSCOPE, which already has been the subject of heated debate and state legislative hearings. There are reports now that students were made to wear Muslim burqas as part of their public school lessons….It is a “curriculum management system” now used in 80 percent of Texas classrooms – and recently was the subject of a heated inquiry that culminated in hearings conducted by the Texas Senate Education Committee chaired by Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston.

Excerpt: Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Khazaee, appeared this past Wednesday evening, Feb. 20, onstage at the Asia Society in New York, in a “conversation” with a former U.S. ambassador and under secretary of State, Thomas Pickering. The event, moderated by Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, and titled “The U.S. and Iran: Road to War or Path to Peace,” is being described by the Asia Society as “Unprecedented” — yielding “Proposals for US-Iran Negotiations.”

Excerpt; America’s elite special operations forces are poised to take a hit if the sequestration defense cuts, coupled with another continuing budget resolution that ties the military’s hands in directing funds to needed areas, happen in a week. It would be inglorious treatment for the warfighters such as those who got Osama bin Laden and puts the readiness of and support for the country’s most elite soldiers at risk when al-Qaeda’s operations are growing in Africa and the U.S. prepares to withdraw combat troops from Afghanistan.

Repeal of The 22nd Amendment?
No way, Jose. Bob, I'm actually not too concerned about this happening. Regardless of "economic forces," amendments to our Constitution must be approved by two-thirds of each house of Congress AND three quarters of all the states before they become law. The President's signature isn't required as he may not veto the proposed amendment. Literally thousands of amendments have been proposed, but only 33 have passed Congress and only 27 have been ratified by the states. Even at gunpoint, I don't think anyone could ram through such a nakedly partisan amendment because the various states would resist (and, some states' legislatures only meet once every two years--even if successfully ratified, it would take far more than 4 years to happen). Keep in mind Republicans control far more than half of all state legislatures; they won't give up something like this easily or without a fight. --Ron P.

Culture, Capitalism, and Horse Meat: Brits take the scandal harder than mainland Europe; the usual suspects blame capitalism.
Excerpt: If you’re planning a vacation to Britain or mainland Europe this year, when dining you might want to skip the lasagna, moussaka, and cottage pie, and stick with the seafood and chicken while we sort this horse meat thing out….Further, the supply chain has links beyond Europe. Imports of horse meat to the European Union from Mexico have grown dramatically in recent years, and much of that meat comes from horses shipped south from the United States. (BLM rounding up wild horses with helicopters, storing in cramped pens and neighbor of BLM chief buying mustangs at $10/head versus $200 to $250 “to adopt and provide a permanent home.” He reportedly transported to Mexico for slaughter and guess where they are ending up…? Innocent animals that cannot defend themselves, rounded up, slaughtered for money. Coming soon to you, my friends. Know them by their deeds, not their empty words. –Barb)

Obama the Transparency President: I Want 'To Clear Out the Press So We Can Take Some Questions'
Excerpt: This is the latest example of how Team Obama has utterly failed to live up to its promise of being the most transparent administration in American history, which the president still asserts.

Calvin Coolidge, Dr. Benjamin Carson, and Us: Coolidge's ideals still resonate, as reflected by Carson's much-loved recent speech.
Excerpt: Coolidge’s “actual record”: he inherited a national debt of $28 billion and reduced it to less than $18 billion; he cut the top income tax rate to 25% while balancing the budget and producing surpluses each year; and unemployment was reduced from 5.7 million at the beginning of the decade to 1.8 million when he left office. The economy became popularly known as the “Coolidge prosperity.” As actual records go, that is not too bad — particularly compared to more recent ones…. (Dr. Benjamin Carson’s) The speech was Coolidge-like in its understated eloquence, its focus on moral decay and fiscal irresponsibility, its religious power and sense of history, and its warning against trying to build up the weak by pulling down the strong. (Per article, over 3 million have viewed Dr. Carson’s comments at the National Prayer Breakfast and NY Times panned Ms. Shlaes book…Barb)

Excerpt: It isn’t hard to see why the creators of martial polities and new, aggressively expansionistic political and societal systems such as Lenin and Muhammad would disdain music. For music is an expression of the human spirit – the very thing that these totalitarians were trying to master. And no music so fully expresses the anti-totalitarian impulse, and the dignity and value of every human person, than does jazz.

Sudden Jihad Syndrome? Las Vegas killer of three identified by police, is still at large and has a Muslim name
Excerpt: Police say the man, Ammar Asim Faruq Harris, 26, (photo below) responsible for the Thursday shooting attack that left three people dead on the Las Vegas Strip, is armed, dangerous, and still on the loose.

Police: Man Attacked, Critically Injured Wife With Meat Cleaver
Excerpt: A man allegedly attacked his wife with a meat cleaver in Manhattan’s Chinatown Sunday, leaving the woman in critical condition. (And you thought it was bad when your computer was hacked. We must ban assault cleavers! ~Bob.)

excerpt: Gun control dates back to laws before and after the Civil War that prohibited or restricted African Americans from owning firearms, a group of black leaders said Friday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. (Some black folks done run from the Democrat plantation. Call out the slave catcher dogs! ~Bob.)

Berlusconi Beats EU Establishment in Italian Election. By Walter Russell Mead
Excerpt: Results are still coming in (and we’re following the FT live blog to keep tabs on the latest) but the Italian elections seem to have resulted in a big win for Silvio Berlusconi. While he’s nowhere near able to build a government on his own, the results up to now seem to indicate that he’s blocked the attempt of the united Italian left to win majorities in both the lower and upper houses of the Italian parliament. Without Il Cavaliere, as the bunga bunga king is sometimes known, there can be no stability in Italy.

Excerpt: A national Muslim organization headquartered in the Southern Tier has filed a libel lawsuit against the author of a book that describes the group as the host of terrorist training camps.

President Obama doesn’t (really) care about campaign finance reform. By Chris Cillizza
Excerpt: Here’s a novel concept: For all of the rhetoric he has devoted to the need to reform how campaigns are funded, President Obama has done little to, you know, actually bring about those reforms. And, it can be argued relatively convincingly that Obama has actually done plenty to exacerbate the influence of money in politics. (Or anything else except the political value of taking a position. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: If you want a thorough agency-by-agency rundown of the budget cuts sequestration would deliver, the Office of Management and Budget has you covered. In compliance with The Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012, the OMB sent a detailed report to Congress in September 2012. But there's a small problem with the report: One of the cuts it warns against would affect an agency that no longer exists--and didn't exist when the OMB sent its report to congress.

"Good news...according to the Obama admin, the rich will pay 4 everything. The bad news...according to the Obama admin, you’re rich" ~ PJ O'Rourke

Reporters Grill Jay Carney Over Obama Organization Selling Access
Reporters doing their jobs? Unbelievable! ~Bob.

Nearly Half of Americans Have More Credit Card Debt Than Savings
Excerpt: Only 55 percent of Americans have more in emergency savings than they have in credit card debt, according to a survey by Bankrate.com. (Every time I worry about my finances, I read something like this. ~bob.)

Son Shoots Home Invader, Saves Parents
Excerpt: The 21-year-old son of eastern European parents in Houston, Texas opened fire on three gunmen after they forced their way into the family’s home, killing one intruder and saving his parents in the process Friday night.

Excerpt: Disagreeing with Salazar's assessment is Amanda Collins, a woman who was raped in 2007 at the University of Nevada. She was raped at gunpoint, in a gun-free zone, less than 300 feet away from campus authorities. The assailant went on to assault two other women and kill a third.

"Palestinian" "news" agency: "One wonders if the Jews belong to some other kind of human species...From where does all this evil and destructive energy derive?"

The only reason @BarackObama is able to get away with lying to the American people is because he is black. Yes I said it & I am black.
