Political Digest for February 13, 2012

Political Digest for February 13, 2012
Robert A. Hall
The Old Jarhead Blog. Bringing you news and information the MSM is too busy covering American Idol, celebrity affairs and sensational missing person cases to cover. Please forward to friends who need to be informed.

I post articles because I think they are of interest. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree (or disagree) with every—or any—opinion in the posted article. Help your friends and relatives stay informed by passing the digest on. In some cases I post things sent to me by readers I might not have posted on my own, to get ideas circulating.

The Week That Was: 2012-02-11 (February 11, 2012)
Excerpt: One of the great disappointments in science over the past few years is the extent to which scientific organizations, which once proudly considers themselves independent, have succumbed to government policy, indeed have become agents of government policy. Once the leadership recognized scientists can have a wide range of opinions on a single issue, even a scientific issue, and zealously guarded this independence. Today, the leadership of many science societies have embraced the official global warming position of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – that climate change is unusual, which it is not, and that human are responsible for climate change, largely through emissions of carbon dioxide. The view represents an appalling ignorance of the earth’s climate history and fails to establish the scientific basis for the claim that atmospheric carbon dioxide causes substantial global warming. (As usual, the excerpt is from Ken Haapala’s summary. Especially see Article #2, Political Science, as it touches on both the media support of CAGW and the ongoing FOIA suit at the University of Virginia. Also see the first two articles under the heading News You Can Use. Ron P.)

Letter to the Editor: Political Science
Excerpt: Later in the article, the reporter introduces the idea of an “inflated idea of how many people disbelieve global warming.” Whether promoting manmade global warming or not, there are no informed scientists who “disbelieve global warming.” The globe has been warming since the end of the Little Ice Age in the 1800s, and since the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. This is a straw man set-up.

Problems cast shadows of doubt on solar project
Excerpt: One of California's showcase solar energy projects, under construction in the desert east of Los Angeles, is being threatened by a deadly outbreak of distemper among kit foxes and the discovery of a prehistoric human settlement on the work site. The $1-billion Genesis Solar Energy Project has been expedited by state and federal regulatory agencies that are eager to demonstrate that the nation can build solar plants quickly to ease dependence on fossil fuels and curb global warming. (We can no longer build ANYTHING quickly, tied up in regulations for years. ~Bob.)

This Is What An Economic Depression Looks Like In The 21st Century
Excerpt: Once upon a time, the Greek economy was thriving, the Greek government was borrowing money like there was no tomorrow and Greek citizens were thoroughly enjoying the bubble of false prosperity that all that debt created. Those that warned that Greece was headed for a financial collapse were laughed at and were called “doom and gloomers”. Well, nobody is laughing now. ... .All debt spirals eventually come to an end. (Why are only a handful of financial and economic scholars writing about the dangers of our debt? I think it is because they are unaffiliated. The Dems can't tell the truth because their man is creating debt and killing jobs with "Green." The Republicans can't talk about it because they are part of the crony capitalism that robs from the poor to pay the rich. The libertarians are in a better position, but have tackled a whole field of issues, including legalizing drugs, and the debt is not necessarily on their priority list. --Don Hank)

Correction from a blog reader:
Per JTA, the CNN story is untrue (it was 2 and 2). Cordially, Larry Greenberg
CNN Fires Entire Jewish Staff Of Israel Bureau - And Retains Only Arab Reporters

Are you kidding me?
I think that many Americans feel as this man does. Not just an issue of party affiliation. They are all causing the decay of our Republic! --GBH

President Obama Announces the 2012 Launch of African Americans for Obama
This is as racist as "White Americans Against Obama" would be. In 2008 I talked to a guy who lobbied for the Teamsters in IL, had to go to IL legislature Black Caucus functions. He told me that he was offended by the blatant racism of Obama, Jackson and others. I took it with a grain of salt, but think I was wrong. ~Bob.

Yet More Proof Barack Obama Is A Lazy Puppet President…
Excerpt: Each day the White House quietly releases President Barack Obama’s daily schedule to the media – and each day the media ignores how very little this president actually does. Barack Obama’s presidential salary is $400,000 per year – plus the other perks such as free governmental housing, a free vacation home, free travel, free golf…well, you get the picture. And yet, has there ever been a president who manages to do so very little while on the job? If you take away the fundraising efforts that now dominate President Obama’s schedule, there is even less to show for a president who clearly cares little for the requirements of a job he now is asking the American people to re-elect him to for another four years.

New Nationwide FEMA Camps Should Raise Eyebrows By Alan P. Halbert
I take with a grain of salt without more info. ~Bob. Excerpt: Of all the rumors flying around on the internet, one just refuses to die and it concerns America's FEMA camps. In a nutshell, there seems to be a solicitation of bids occurring for the staffing of FEMA camps within 72 hours of implementation by an order from either Homeland Security or the president. This situation begs to be investigated, with special consideration paid to the motives of the present administration.

Liberal Professor Makes it Official: Chicago Most Corrupt by John Ransom
Excerpt: The diamond in that pin of corruption however starts in Chicago and spreads outward. Don’t believe me? The University of Illinois alumni club is hosting a seminar called 21st Century Chicago and Corruption Today. “A new report shows Illinois to be the third most corrupt state in the nation and Chicago the most corrupt city,” says the teaser. (Hardly a news flash to chumbolones like me who live in Crook County, IL and read the Trib and John Kass. And we only read the little they find out about. ~Bob.)

Interpol accused after journalist arrested over Muhammad tweet
Excerpt: Interpol has been accused of abusing its powers after Saudi Arabia allegedly used the organisation's red notice system to get a journalist arrested in Malaysia for insulting the Prophet Muhammad. Police in Kuala Lumpur said Hamza Kashgari, 23, was detained at the airport "following a request made to us by Interpol" the international police cooperation agency, on behalf of the Saudi authorities. Interpol later denied that its notice system had been involved in the arrest of Kashgari. A spokesperson said: "The assertion that Saudi Arabia used Interpol's system in this case is wholly misleading and erroneous."

Uzbek man guilty of plotting to kill President Obama
Excerpt: A man from Uzbekistan living illegally in the United States pleaded guilty on Friday to terrorism and weapons charges involving a plot to kill President Barack Obama. According to court evidence, defendant Ulugbek Kodirov believed he was acting on behalf of an Islamist militant group in his homeland and was plotting to shoot Obama while the president campaigned for re-election this year. (Don't worry, Mr. President. Nothing to do with Islam, a religion of peace. Just proposed random workplace violence, like Ft. Hood. ~Bob.)
